Wow, it's a bloodbath. I can't imagine why the Rockies haven't pulled their pitcher.

As much as I love seeing the Sox win, I was thinking the Rockies would be a more formidable opponent. Maybe it's just first night jitters.

Rosebeth-I think it has a lot to do with the 8 days rest that the Rockies had. I hope that they pull out of it for their sake and also it would be nice to have an exciting series but hey if not all the better for us.

Ok I love Tek! 12 to 1!

So sad as tomorrow night we are flying out of Baltimore into Providence and will be on the road during the beginning of the Sox game. Thankfully we will be able to listen to WEEI for the broadcast but I prefer watching the game!

I can't believe it is still only the 5th inning! This is going to be a VERY late night!

I'm a Red Sox fan by marriage, but much like my new family, the Sox are very much loved part of my life.

Tonight I was flipping between the game and Private Practice so DH and I could talk about what a machine Beckett Is and that interesting strategy of walking runners in the Rockies tried in the 5th inning.

GREAT FIRST GAME, I HOPE THEY ALL GO THIS WELL! :D

10-25-2007, 07:25 AM
I went to bed after the 5th - I couldn't believe it when my DH told me that the score didn't change after that. Crossing my fingers for tonight - going to Denver 2-0 would be really nice.

kwsu44
10-25-2007, 07:26 AM
That was a great game last night ... my brother and I kept saying the 2-out hits were unbelievable (and those 3 bases loaded walks).

Beckett was so dominate ... he just picked the Rockies apart.

Go SOX in game 2!!!

MaineBelle
10-25-2007, 07:50 AM
I just want to thank the Sox offense for allowing me to go to bed at a reasonable time last night. I fell asleep after the 5th. I hope the offense can keep it up for Schilling and Dice-K, I think they are going to need the run support more then Beckett did.

Beckett is a machine. The Rockies are so used to winning, they probably don't know what hit them last night.

I was a "bad mommy" and let my 3yo dd stay up to the end of the 5th. Her best comment was at the end of the 2nd - when the Rockies were leaving the field she said "Time for the Rockies to go home".

jeeplover
10-25-2007, 08:06 AM
pixielou-My 18 mo was up with us as well until the top of the 5th (not because we let him though). I think he wanted to see the Sox kick some Rockies butt last night.

It is interesting in the pregame show all the commentators are saying that the Sox will take it in 6 games because it will give Beckett a chance to pitch again. Let's just hope that Schilling is ready for this game as I am not too confident in Dice-K's ability to win us a game while in CO.

Is it me or does anyone else think the vest style uniform the Rockies wear is ugly?

Fugly!

It's not quite as bad as the similar outfit the Texas Rangers wore, only because the Rockies' 'vest' and shirt are the same colors. The Rangers' one were contrasting colors. UGH.

So, dare I call last night a 'trouncing?'

I wonder if the Rockies aren't used to the sea level air. ;)

I think Tampa Bay also has the ugly vest style too.

There is very little activity in the Rockies Fan Thread ;)

Looking forward to tonight! I should have gone to bed during the 5th but I thought it might be bad luck to do so. I stayed up.

I stayed up too! I was worried that the Rockies might rally.

The uniform talk is funny as it is reminding me of when the Pats changed their uniforms and all the sports commentators were complaining!

Let's pray that our flight isn't delayed tonight so I get to at least catch some of the game on TV!

yes it was a blast! the place was insanely crowded and it took us a good 25 minutes to get to our seats after walking through the gates. i was getting a little claustrophobic but at least people were excited and happy. and of course as soon as we sat down it started to rain! luckily i brought a hat and it didn't end up raining that hard but it lasted until the 4th or 5th inning.

DH commented that the energy was not the same as it was in '04 (even at the beginning of the game), but i just love going to games at Fenway so i had a great time. it was fun except for the 4 losers who sat in front of us and seriously stood up for every.single good play - the guys behind us kept yelling 'down in front ladies', finally by the end when they were good and drunk and being major asses DH had to physically knock down the guys arms b/c we could barely watch the game anymore. i think they just wanted all of their friends to see them on TV so they were trying to stand up as much as possible. and yes i did stay til the very end! people left in droves during (after?) the 7th inning but we stuck it out even though it was a blowout. i drank almost 2 bottles of coke so i was wide awake :D unfortunately we were at the mercy of BIL's friend who got us a ride in, so we had to walk forever and then wait around afterwards so we didn't get home til after 1am...and my dear daughter doesn't nap anymore so i wasn't able to sneak one in either so i am hurting now. there is no way i can stay up for tonight's game.

on another note, alienhost i did find that shirt in the souvenir shop! but it was $40 and i saw it online for $20 and i was freezing and all bundled up and didn't feel like changing into it anyway so i didn't buy it. but it's good to know that it's there now.

i took a few pictures, nothing great and then my camera died but here they are!

I HATE Tim McCarver - anytime a player other than a Red Sox makes a play, it's the "most outstanding, brilliant, etc." play ever ... if a Red Sox player makes it ... "oh, good play."

He kept doing that last night ... Troy what's-his-face was making routine plays for a shortstop, but McCarver was blowing smoke up his @ss. Then Lugo made a similar play and it was like "oh, whatever."

He just did it again on the "Outstanding" base running by Tavares. Dude, shut up!

Can he come down with laryngitis so we don't have to listen to him anymore?

Rosebud
10-25-2007, 07:54 PM
Okay, when is the Rockies' pitcher going to get issued a freaking warning?!

He hits one player in the ankle and comes within milimeters of hitting two other players in the head. Not acceptable. Every pitcher has some pitches get away from him, but three in as many innings-- and with that kind of potential to do serious injury-- warrants a warning.

kwsu44
10-25-2007, 07:55 PM

DH's family inherited them many, many years ago! we were laughing when we saw Fever Pitch b/c they kind of have to go through the same process when figuring out who gets which tickets every year - it is a painful process.

I love that about him. They are all that way - well, maybe not the big dogs , but the rest of the guys.

Papelbon might be a contender for MVP. He's a great closer.

10-28-2007, 09:20 PM
All they keep talking about is A-Rod. This is the World Series and he isn't in it. Shut up about A-rod. (if the red sox sign A-Rod and let Lowell go I will be pissed....I do not want to see A-Rod in a Red Sox uniform).

I HATE A-Rod. I think he would kill the Red Sox chemistry if he came to Boston, but honestly I think that's where it's headed.

I would be sad if Lowell went to the Yankees.

So, I'm looking at the stats online ... Pedroia, JD Drew and Ellsbury all have the same # of hits (5). Pedroia and Lowell have the highest averages. Pedroia and Varitek have the most RBI in the series. Hmmm ... methinks my MVP is Pedroia!!!

WonderWoman
10-28-2007, 09:25 PM

I think it just goes to show what a lack of class A-Rod has - why can't he wait until today or tomorow to announce that he is opting out of his contract? No - he has to make the World Series all about himself. Plus - he wears lip gloss. .

Have you seen the reports that the Sox are now willing to throw in Ellsbury for a Santana deal? I would not be happy with that. I know a known pitcher is worth a lot (particularly to keep the Yankees from signing him), but Sox pitching is not in bad shape and I'd hate to give away so many players (it was 4, last time I checked--Lester, Coco, and 2 very promising minor leaguers) to get one more.

Well, at least he's learning the nature of being a Sox fan...

As I understand it, he enjoyed himself thoroughly. He got to eat popcorn, boo at A-Rod, and see JD Drew hit a home run in his general direction. When you're seven, maybe the final score doesn't matter quite so much?

That's great! You're probably right--the first Fenway experience is a trip, win or lose (or so I understand--I was a baby, and we went all the time, so I don't have a real first memory). And usually the final score doesn't matter as much to me either (though of course I prefer to win)--losing to the Yankees just makes me cranky :).

Well, I don't know whether to be happy or sad about Manny leaving ... I mean, you can't deny his talent, but I guess he's been poison in the clubhouse ...

Plus, if I acted at my job the way he acted at his ... I would have been fired YEARS ago.

Go Sox! Maybe this what they need to get back on track?

I am SO conflicted about this Manny deal. Yeah, the guy's a jerk and the team hates him. But he knows how to swing a bat! I'm concerned about the Sox without him. Well, we'll see, I guess.

And now that Manny is headed to L.A. his antics can continue to be headline news for me.

There's just something I really liked about Manny, so I will miss him.

Don't know a thing about the new guy, Bay, but will check him out tonight.

I don't think you could have predicted a better first outing for Bay. And in the interviews with him he is so humble - good edition to the ball club.

GO RED SOX!!!

Rosebud, you'll have to cheer for all of us East Coasters ..... I might not make it through the whole game since it's a 10 PM EST start time. :p

I agree--Rosebud, you're on fan duty. 9 p.m. is bad enough, 10:15 is impossible--there is no chance I will stay up for the game :(. Go Sox!

It's a shame that they start so late that East Coasters can't stay up for the whole game! I wonder why they do that? (However, if they'd started the game earlier today those poor players would have been miserable. It was in the mid-90s here today. Ick!) I'm watching and cheering for the Sox right now.

Yeah!
I went to bed at 9:15 :) I can't wait for it to get back to Fenway when it can be on at normal time!
Honestly, I really wasn't expecting a win last night - now let's hope Dice-K can keep his road-game success going tomorrow night.

Yay indeed :). I didn't make it to the first pitch. So sad.

let's hope Dice-K can keep his road-game success going tomorrow night.

I can sleep in on Saturday...but can you imagine how late this game is going to go? If Lester's game went until 1:20 a.m., Dice-K is going to be in the 2 - 2:30 a.m. range :). I may have to alternate wine and coffee...

Unfortunately Saturdays are my day to get up with my 2 year old *sigh* I'll see how long I last. I'd like to stay up for the whole thing but being 15 weeks pregnant, that may be hard.

WOOHOO!!!

I'm super tired, I stayed up to the end of the game. But, how awesome!

I am offically in love with Jason Bay. He also happens to wear my favorite number, #44.

I'm getting better--I conked out at 12:30 last night (right after Masterson walked in a run), which is better than missing the entire game on Wednesday. Tomorrow I might even see the whole thing (since it starts at 7-7:30 :) ).

Ugh, I stayed up last night ... they just didn't have. Jacoby was the only one hitting, well, and Youk. Dustin is 0 for 12 .... that stinks.

I had a feeling when Jed Lowrie flied out w/the bases loaded that the Sox weren't going to win.

I hope Jon Lester pitches his butt off tonight!

I couldn't stay up - After JD Drew pinch-hitted in the bottom of the 9th and struck out, I knew it was going to be a long night.

Sucks the game doesn't start until 8:30 tonight - I hope it is over and we don't have to go back to the West Coast.

I stayed up and man am I disappointed....I hope tonight's game goes differently (faster and they win!). I can't stay up that late again! This is reminding me of the Post Season 2004 games against the Yankees - way too late and too long!

That's when I gave up and went to bed. I suspected it wasn't going to be pretty, and it was midnight.

Alienhost, if it ends the same way the 2004 series against the Yankees did, then it's worth it :).

Manny is on the cover of the new issue of Sports Illustrated - hopefully it will cause some sort of curse on him ;) Or the Red Sox win the World Series again, that would be redeption for that whole fiasco. What an idiot! (sorry if I offend any Manny fans).

Oh, I am not a Manny fan anymore. Jerk.

"Wah, people like me and want my autograph. They cheer for me when I hit a baseball and they like to chant my name in unison. Wah! But, I want these people to leave me alone, it's too much pressure being so loved and adored when all I want to do is throw people to the ground and collect my millions."

I've been anti-Manny for awhile, but I found this Sports Guy column (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=manny) interesting (basically Boras-as-Svengali), though it doesn't explain the nonsense of past seasons.

YAY for a game 1 win!!

I thought that Bill Simmons article about Manny was very, very interesting. I have to say, a lot of it makes sense in terms of the aggression of the agent and the spinning of events by the Red Sox powers-that-be. Manny certainly did a lot of things to piss me off over the years, but I don't think it should have ended the way it did and I think it was a mistake to get rid of a player with that kind of hitting record.

You know what's really interesting, is living in L.A. and seeing the way that Manny is getting people excited about baseball here. My friends who have been going to Dodger games this season say they've never seen anything like it here-- people dressed up like Manny in the stands, really getting into the games, staying through the whole game. And Manny sure has been a good thing for the Dodgers. It'd be nice if he stayed and didn't go to the Yanks next year. We'll see.

I don't post in here often but as someone who is also a Phillies fan, 2-0 is that much sweeter with Manny being on the Dodgers.
