View Full Version : Tips for Combating Muscle Soreness

I walked in a 5K on Sat that had quite a few hills and now my butt and lower back are very sore. I have done hot baths and some advil..any other suggestions? It hurts bad to get up and down.

I would probably do some very gentle cardio for a bit and then engage in a nice long stretching session.

Eat bananas. Potassium is supposed to help wth muscle soreness.

I second the Potassium suggestion...Also, make sure you drink lots of water...staying hydrated usually helps me a bit.

Thanks for the info! I already made DH give me a massage. I will try some water and bananas. I'm not as sore today but it still hurts.

I second everyone's suggestion and add one that you keep on moving! The best thing for me when I'm sore from a tough workout is to do it again. I might take it easier and it definitely hurts, but it's a lot easier to keep moving and stay flexible than it is to rest and get all stiff. I've also heard that working it out helps release some of the buildup which is causing muscle pain.
