:( Hi Ladies,

I just picked my cat Frazier up from the vet. Long story short, he threw up some green icky stuff yesterday and before we went to bed we couldn't find him. After 15 minutes of shaking his treat can and walking all around the house, I found him hiding underneath the workbench in the basement. When I picked him up he was like a ragdoll....also, his bum was all wet. We realized when we got him upstairs that he was leaking some clear mucousy stuff from his bum. After an unsuccessful trip to the emergency vet (waited in the parking lot for 3 hours - the vet was doing emergency surgery) we took him to the vet this AM. (He was hiding again - in a box in the basement, this time. He never hides!)

His x-rays show that he didn't swallow anything solid. He was on IV fluids all day and now he is home. He looks so pathetic with his big cone thingy and his paw all wrapped up (they left the catheter in.) I'm so sad for him. I'm making him some cooked chicken right now and hoping he'll eat a little of it. My poor chowhound was also down 3lbs this AM! I'm taking him back tomorrow AM for a check - they'll keep him for more fluids if he isn't feeling better. They should also have his bloodwork back. The worst case scenario is that they will do exploratory surgery.

There really isn't any point to this post except that I needed to get that out to people who would understand. My coworkers all looked at me like I was nuts...emergency vet? IV drip? They just don't get how much I love this little guy. Please keep him in your thoughts tonight :(

Beth,

I hope Frazier is feeling better soon. It is agonizing when your furbaby is hurting. I'm sure he feels your love and concern and that can only help him recuperate. :)

Oh, I totally understand the stress when you're cat is sick. I'm glad your kitty is feeling a little better, I hope he heals up right away. That must have been so scary! We had a similar experience about a year ago. Our indoor cat became really sick. I noticed her acting very lathargic, then she went and "hid" in a small spot in the house. She obviously wasn't acting herself so we called the emergency vet because it was after 9pm and they asked us to take her temp. Luckily we had an extra thermometer around to stick up her bum (we felt awful doing it) and she had such a high temp they told us to bring her in right away. We never really found out what was wrong with her other than her having a possible viral infection but they did some tests and put an IV in her that night. Who knows what would've happened if we didn't take her in. It was a little costly but I totally understand and I'm sure you have no regrets at taking the measures that you did. Best wishes.

I hope Frazier feels better quickly and your vet can pinpoint what's going on with him. It's so scary when our little ones are sick! It's good that he's eating for you! And you are NOT crazy for having an emergency vet and IV drip etc...we lost our cat after a multi-year illness during which we discovered proceedures and specialists we had no idea existed for kitties!

Hi BethIrish - Your coworkers are wrong: you are not nuts at all. Not sure if you caught my post a couple of weeks ago about my cat but to sum up she had been diagnosed with GI lymphosarcoma a little over 6 years ago, went through chemo treatments (yes, there IS chemo for dogs & cats!), and had been in remission until about 3 months ago when I found a lump that turned out to be mammary adenocarcinoma aka breast cancer (where do you stick a pink ribbon on a cat??) :o
Anywho, she's been going through chemo again but has had problems within the past couple of weeks with: her kidney values fluctuating, her white blood cell count being too low, being on antibiotics which made her nauseous and/or made a cold-waiting-to-happen surface then subsequently lost about 1.5 pounds in less than a month.
She seems to be doing better now (knock wood) - I just think she has a deal with my hairdresser to see how grey my hair can get.

I actually now work at my cat's vet - the largest in the country - and we have practically every health specialty available: Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, Dermitology, Internal Medicine, Ophthomology and Surgery/Orthopedics.

Anyway, my post is just my way of saying, even if you are nuts, their are people nuttier (like me). ;)

Hang in there & I hope your kitty is feeling better very soon!

Aw Rosebud, I'm so sorry about you kitty! Who knew that they could get breast cancer!?!? I'm so sorry to hear about her - I hope that she can fight it! I definitely don't think you're nuts. My pets (2 cats, 1 dog) are my responsiblity and my loves - if I don't speak for them, who will? When I adopted them I took on the great responsibility of making sure they are happy and healthy....honestly, the most rewarding responsibility of my life thus far. Who couldn't love the complete adoration of 3 fuzzy little cuddle-bugs!?!

So, I'm off to take Frazier to the vet. I'm happy to report that he is drinking again and also has eaten a few bites of chicken. He has definitely perked up a bit - he was purring this AM when I was rubbing his ears (his favorite!)

Thank you, ladies, for you all your support. It honestly and truly made me feel a little bit better! I'll let you know what the vet says when I get home....

Hi all!

I just wanted to give you an update on my baby :) He is doing great! He was still very sleepy and lethargic when I brought him home on Saturday. But I am happy to report that by Sunday AM he was running for his treats again! He is on two different antibiotics - after 3 doses he is back to his old self. And, while he really doesn't like taking the pills - he stopped fighting with me to get them in his mouth :)

So glad to hear Fraizer is feeling better!!!! :)

My cat is driving me crazy, as only cats can do, but she's hanging in and quite worth the effort . . .

Be lucky you have to give Frazier pills: ever try giving LIQUID meds to a cat with syringe??? FUN!
