BABY GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS
Nursery Accessories

Ocean Wonders Aquarium for crib

Prince Lionheart wipes warmer

Wipe Warmer: Best $20 I ever spent. It may seem like a silly thing to buy, but the facts are that you WILL be changing baby in the middle of the night, and there's no need to shock him/her with a cold wipe if you don't have too

Strollers/Travel

Get or make some kind of carrier: Bjorn, Sling, Wrap, etc. Most babes like to be held close to mom. My slings were lifesavers when Noah was little, and I used them up until he was nearly 2.
Floppy seat (invaluable for restaurant high chairs and shopping carts)

Bundle Me (fleece covering for stroller or car seat in TODDLER size, the infant will be outgrown too fast)

Furniture/Activity centers

Pressed for space? You can easily do without a changing table. Baby can be changed in the bassinette, crib, or on the floor. Place "changing stations" (a basket with diapers, wipes, a small foldable blankie for a pad, etc) in corners around the house. Presto!

Evenflo exersaucer

Deluxe Symphony in Motion mobile by Tiny Love. Don't go for the pretty one that matches your bedding!

Graco pack n play with bassinet and changing pad attachment - especially if you have two floors in your house. makes it much easier for baby to have a place to be changed and napped downstairs so you do not have to keep running around

Fisher Price Aquarium Swing

Wait to buy a swing. Some babes love them, some hate them. Let them try it out at BRU, or try it out at another mom's house before you buy. They're pretty expensive, and they only last to about 17-20 pounds (which in my case was around 6 months.)

Noah's vibrating bouncy chair was a Godsend. I put him in it every day to take a shower. His was the kind that works from 0-3 years, not so much a bouncy seat as a rocking chair that you can make stationary for babies. I think it's made by Fisher Price. He's 2 now and still sits in it to read. Will definitely be buying another for bb#2.

Feeding

Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe High Chair. It comes with toys that attach that Dylan loves and three removeable dishwasher safe trays.

Boppy pillow

Breastfeeding Essentials (if you choose to BF) Get thee a tube of Lanolin/Lansinoh. LIFESAVER. Invest in good nursing bras. Buy or make nursing pads. I loved my Boppy for nursing when Noah was a wee one, then he used it for propped up tummy time and eventually sitting up practice. Nursing pajamas were lovely for nighttime nursing.

I'd skip a highchair. Some moms love them, but not me. I was given one, and I hated cleaning the thing. Space is also an issue for us, and I preferred putting Noah in a booster type seat that attaches to a regular chair. He used the included tray at first, and now he just sits right up to the table. By 6 months when he was eating solids, the booster seat was fine.

Bathing

Infant: Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn to Toddler Tub

then once they are sitting up the Eurotub

Toys

Gymini by Tiny Love

Leapfrog Learning Table

Whoozit

Safety/Health

Baby Quiet Sounds Video monitor by Summer Infant Products

CLOTHING

Halo sleepsacks

Registering: Other than for Sleep Sacks and the like, don't register for clothes! Especially if your baby turns out to be a girl! You will get 500 onesies & many cute outfits, but none of the things you really need.

LABOR/DELIVERY

Hospital bag: I recommend packing healthy snacks (fruit, nuts, etc) as you may be in labor for awhile and the hospital will not let you eat anything per policy (popsicles & ice chips OK, but that's it). It's a valid policy, but I was in labor for more than 24 hours and I was SO GLAD I ate on the way to the hospital and brought a few granola bars & craisins. Also glad I brought: body pillow, lip balm, unsented lotion, a med length nursing gown and long (knee/thigh high) socks.

Yeah, our new thread is open!! Even if I am still a week away from trimester 2, this is so exciting :)

Can you change my DH age to 23, his b-day is here, thanks!

Not much to report this weekend. Lots of little pains in my growing belly and sleeping for me. Hope everyone else had a more eventful weekend.

This is so exciting! Jane, sorry you got stuck, and hope the weather clears up soon!

mel7dog, me too! little growing pains in the belly and need for sleep. Yesterday I had a 10 1/2 hour wedding that tried to turn into longer, but I was absolutely exhausted, and couldn't stay another minute. We still managed to photograph everything, especially the bride's amazing Tango with her dad, so leaving an hour and a half later that we had originally planned was plenty! My assistant took good care of me, even though she herself was feeling a little sick. The bride and groom were so wonderful and the wedding was beautiful. I constantly marvel at how lucky I am to share in people's special wedding days week after week. Sometimes I have to pinch myself and say this is my job... but now... time for sleep!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

And just dropping by to say, I'm officially in my SECOND TRIMESTER! :-D yahoo!!!

Hey there guys! :)

I know I don't post nearly enough but I come in and read regularly. Sounds like you are all doing well and the morning sickness is slowly easing. How exciting that we have a second trimester thread up and running. I'm not quite there yet, but it's just around the corner.

I've been very lucky to have hardly an morning sickness (not like with my DD) but I did have a mild bout of gastro which saw me throwing up all the time. It wasn't pretty.
I have been given the run around trying to find an OB that will do a VBAC at the hospital I want. I have found one finally but it was stressful and I was in tears alot. Thank goodness it's taken care of now! I saw his fill in doctor (he's on holidays at the moment, typical!) and I didn't like him. Hopefully, I won't have to see him again anyway as the midwives will be taking care of me now. It's all totally different to when when I was pregnant with DD. It's a whole new world now!

It's such nice weather here in Australia (Melbourne) right now! I've been taking DD out alot in the sunshine. She loves to pick (and eat) the daisies! Hee hee. She's also learning how to throw balls so she does that too. It's such a fun age!

Appointments: NT ultrasound October 12, Midwife appointment November 22. Oh and gender prediction: Boy! :)

Love the new thread!! :)

My big u/s is scheduled for November 15 Thanks!

Hello all. Checking into the new thread. I am following along, but not posting much. I am an late April early May mom, but following in the May thread more closely. I am reading all your good info though and smiling at what's to come. I mostly hope to get rid of m/s which has been awful.

Here's some updates. My official EDD is 4/30/06, although I am saying 5/1/06. That is the latest I will go though, so I will most likely be a April mommy. My next appointment is Oct. 21. I have an u/s picture, but it looks like we are waiting until later ones for this thread, so I'll wait.

Hope everyone has a good week!!

Thanks, Jane for a beautiful new thread! It so exciting to see that so many of us are already in the second trimester!

As to me, 2 weeks to go until my next appointment and, if all goes well, we'll start telling families and friends (and work...) after that... Cannot wait! :D

I've had a surprising energy boost; have been feeling 1000 % better since Saturday. I do wonder whether this is a fluke or not... It's incredible to feel like myself again -- I'm thankful even if it'll only last a few days.

Have a great week everyone!

Morning ladies! Great job on the new thread Jane :) Thanks!

I really need to get hold of the OB and get my appts figured out -- ended up having to cancel the high-risk, and don't have a regular one scheduled yet. Note to self...

I got a body pillow for my birthday :D Isn't that a sad statement of what makes me happy at 27?

New crisis at work -- have to run. Check in later!

Good Morning Everyone.
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I went shopping this weekend in at a thing called "kid's market" and it's like a consignment flea market for baby/kids/maternity things. It's a twice a year thing. I managed to get a travel system (stroller & carrier) for a great price. I found me some cute maternity clothes. I bought a few baby clothes, but since I don't know the gender yet, it was hard to just find unisex clothing. I had lots of fun though.

I think my m/s is gone! I haven't thrown up in 1.5 weeks. :) but I still gag a lot. I'm exhausted today and have a horrible headache. Tommorrow is my second doctors appointment and DH and I will get to hear the heartbeat. We're so excited. :D

Hi everyone!

Lets see...we finally told my family this weeknd about the TWINS. They were beyond excited. They will be the first grandchildren on my side. We're telling Brians family this week since they live out of town. I'm also going to break the news to work tomorrow.

I'm still feeling really gaggy and still at war with my toothbrush. Last night I had a horrible headache and had a tiny bit of bleeding yesterday. Otherwise this pregnancy sure is fun :p

I need to buy some more maternity clothes. My OBGYN last week said I was measuring at about 15 weeks already so you can imagine I'm showing a bit. My problem is I'm short so I need to find a place thats sells ankle length pants.

Hope everyone is feeling ok!

Yeah for a new thread!

So tired, but glad to be back from our trip. I lost it last night when we went to pick up Caden. As we pulled in my parents' driveway I could see him running in their living room. I started crying and ran in the house. Must be those pregnancy hormones!

Txfish - What kind of pillow did you get?

mel7dog
10-03-2005, 08:49 AM
Jennifer such a cute story about picking up your son!

jrsygirlTry Old Navy for "short" pants, they also have a variery of sizes and are pretty affordable!

Txfish :D for the body pillow, I'd be excited to get one too!

Not much going on with me. Lots of cramping in my uterus so hopefully my belly is finally growing!

mel7dog

Just a note to Jane and anyone else who is thinking about the PBK Champois Lambie bedding. I was just on the site and most of the bedding is on sale. They no longer have it listed under collections and I's thinking they are going to discontinue it (again). So if anyone wants it get ti now :)

PS: I have it all and LOVE it!

Txfish
10-03-2005, 09:41 AM
jrsygrl, I didn't realize you were also having twins!! Congrats -- how exciting to have two twin mamas on our board :) Hope you find some nice-fitting pants.

Re: body pillow -- I have no idea what kind it is; some generic one from Bed Bath & Beyond. I'd kind of like to have one of the u-shaped or wedge combo preggo pillows, but I know I can do just about as well with a nice long one and a couple (or 6 ;) ) nice firm pillows. It's amazing how many pillows I can get between my knees at the end, when the ligaments have loosened up... Soft places are my enemy!

cagey

just wanted to say hi and sign up for the 2nd tri thread!

Things are going great with me -- signed up for my 1st session of prenatal yoga last night & love it.

Had another appt w/ midwife last week and they've adjusted my EDD again (last time), so now I'm officially due on 15 April (can you please update threadmistress :) )

I've got a Nuchal US on the 10th, then just normal OB appts until mid/late November.

QOTD: Have any of you started to register yet? I was hoping to wait until Jan,. but the in-laws are thinking of doing a mini shower over thanksgiving.....

mel7dog
10-03-2005, 10:54 AM
QOTD We started to register as soon as we founfdout we were pg, is that bad?! ;) We registered at BRU, Target, and PBK. Right now I am using the registry more to keep items I have heard good things about or read good reviews on. We haven't told anyone besides my mom about them yet though. We're hoping to get a lot of baby gear for Christmas instead of fun (but useless) stuff for ourselves!

10-03-2005, 11:14 AM
Yay for our great new thread!

Ugh, I cannot get a good night's sleep these last couple nights. I've come to the conclusion that my mattress is too soft so last night I moved to the couch (its much firmer). My back aches all night, and I cannot find a comfy position, the couch seems to alleviate it though. I guess that will be my new sleeping place for the next couple months.. I also need to invest in some firm pillows.

registering: Haven't even thought about it yet. I really don't even WANT a baby shower, but I know I'll have no control my mother and MIL. I just hope its something small. We just had a BIG bridal shower and BIG wedding....I can't handle another BIG party. :o

Wednesday is my next appt, DH is coming with me, hopefully we'll get to hear the HB and get a new pic of our little one!! I can't wait, I'm taking off of work, and my appt isn't until the afternoon...I can sleep late!!! (If I can sleep, that is  )

Hope you are all feeling good!!

Kimmiebride
10-03-2005, 11:24 AM
Registry I started a registry at Target.com a couple of weeks ago, more to see how much this will cost US, as the crib I want is on there and the changing table too, and I don't expect that type of gifts. I will probably add one at BRU, since they have great stuff too.

sleep last night was the first night I actually slept 5 hours straight!!! I guess my UTI was making me have to get up and pee even MORE than normal, and now I got up just once to take my antibiotic on schedule, and feel incredibly rested. I am most comfortable sleeping on my left side these days, as the bump is getting bigger (!)

Nursery design I have chosen the "Guess How Much I Love You" bedding in sage green. When DH and I first met almost 11 years ago he gave me that book for Christmas (we had only been dating about 6 weeks) I just found out that it was published for the first time that year, so the Nutbrown Hares are extra special for us. I bought the baby book already. I can't buy any furniture or stuff for the baby's room until wedding season ends, and I have a chance to dig out from under all the papers and crap all over the room that will become the nursery. Right now it's my office, and I can't see many surfaces in the room due to the amount of paperwork everywhere. Can't wait for November/December!!!

Hi everyone. :)

I made it home. I've read through all the posts but I am too tired for shout outs right now (had to get up at 6:30am to catch my flight home).

Mel - thanks for letting me know about the Lambie bedding. I was in the store yesterday and it wasn't on sale, there was no indication of it being on its way out. But its on sale online now so I need to have a chat with DH quickly. thanks!

Txfish

Ooh! Registering. We'll definitely wait until we have a 90% gender though -- there's so much that we already have covered. My big ones this time are going to be a new swing, a breast pump and a better stroller/infant carrier. Hopefully, if it's a boy, we'll be able to sell my entire girl bedding set for not much less than we'll spend to outfit the boy bedding.

My mom told me to take her credit card (I still have one on her account, just in case? OK, I hide it from her ;) ) and buy myself a nice outfit for my birthday! We're going to Atlanta in a few weeks for my sister's baby shower, and I just know that between now and then I'll pop out just enough to be totally out of all my cute stuff. So nice of mom, so I can feel pretty too :)

Glad you made it home Jane! Sorry about the delays.

Found out today that my boss is pg. She's about 8 weeks behind me... nothing like rushing me back from maternity leave, eh? I'm going to tease her about this...

Hi everyone. First off, thanks to all of you who gave me such a warm welcome at the end of the last thread. I loved reading all of your welcome wishes! :) Now I can extend a welcome to Misty!

I figured I should stop by the new thread. Thanks so much for getting this going...though I'm still a little ways from the second trimester. Pregnancy just moves so slowly!

I told my boss today! I was so nervous, but I just started the job three weeks ago today so I really felt like I needed to say something. I gave him a little insight into our sad history hoping that would help him understand me a little more. I'm glad to finally get it off my chest, and though I won't have been there long enough to qualify for FMLA or "maternity leave," he said they definitely would work with me. So YEAH for that!

Registry... Ha! No, I don't think I'll even think about that until after my 20-week ultrasound. I am much more excited about this pregnancy than I would have thought I could be, but I also don't want to do too much planning for our future until I know this baby is going to make it. I wish I could think about those things now, but I just can't. Besides, we don't have a house yet...though we are hoping to close on one in a couple of weeks.

Also, my husband will be gone (across the country) for military training starting in November and he won't be back until March! It's going to be hard to do all of those things without him. :( We've already been separated now since March 1st (I've been able to see him most weekends though). It's a crazy life we lead. I just love the military!

I have my next three months of appointments scheduled, but I don't have my appointment card near me. So I'll just update the ones I remember: NT screening (u/s and blood test) is October 11 and next ob appointment is October 25.

Of course next week's appointment assumes I get my insurance straightened out by then. My DH is off of active duty orders for the next month so we had to go on a temporary insurance plan (through the military, basically everything stays the same). But since we had to re-enroll, right now the system is saying I have no insurance. Lovely. Hopefully they'll get the paperwork through soon!

Anyway, I promise next time I won't be so chatty! :p

MistyWelcome!

Sully I hear you on being away from DH, no fun. We have been doing the weekend thing since April and I am sick of it! I'm glad your Dh will be back in March though, hopefully plenty of time before baby arrives.

Misty - welcome and congrats!

Jane&Andy - thanks for all you do, new thread looks great.

Kopper - hope this week is flying by for you, but gosh how sweet those post its must be.

Mel - hoping Jakedog's right and they're a boy and a girl, but not having any intuitions towards gender, will definitely find out as soon as we can

Jakedog - hope your new diet and drugs is just the thing to get you on the road to recovery. I'm sorry its gone on for so long but glad you made the call to the MW.

Kimmie - sorry you've got an infection, hope you don't have to repeat that protein test.

Ceallaigh - congrats on your little girl! I have a big brother, just a year older, and we have a fabulous relationship, big brothers are cool for little sisters to have - just a little something to think about. After saying all that, I'll be dissappointed if I find out I'm having 2 girls.

Sully - glad things went well with your boss. While your DH is away, we'll all be here for you.

Had my first barfing experience when I walked in the door after a miserable day at work. I think it was mostly stress related, since I had a horrific headache by the end of the workday. I have one helluva mean boss lady, she got to me today, I can usually handle her better.

Registering - not yet, but we will at BRU and Target.

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was horrible. I threw up like 4 times in a row last night. I think I waited too long to eat. Ugh. now my tummy is all tight from the clenching. Ugh. make it go away!!:(

Anyway, other than that there's not much going on. I was suuposed to have another US next week but now I may have to travel for work that day. I've been mostly getting out of going anywhere but since work doesn't know I'm PG yet its been tough. I just hate the thought of travelling while I'm not feeling well.

registeringnot yet. I'll probably wait a while still. Even though we've seen HB's it doesn't significantly reduce your MC chances when you're carrying twins. Everything is looking really good so far but i'm still nervous I guess that something will go wrong.

Jane&Andy

I'll do some shout outs eventually. I'm here and I'm reading along but I'm still exhausted from my weekend and I need to go find my boss and check in with him.

I have my next appt tomorrow. I can't wait. I need to be nice and calm when I go in so that my blood pressure will go back to normal. I never had a problem with it before so I think its just me getting a little too stressed before my appts (worried about confirming the pregnancy, and then worried about finding the heartbeat). If its high again then my sister is going to mail me her blood pressure cuff (something her FIL gave them when he was on a health kick) so that I can measure it at home. I hope they don't comment on my weight again. I didn't eat great while I was in Chicago b/c we were out a lot BUT I did do tons and tons of walking. So maybe it will balance out.

Mel - thanks for mentioning the sale on the lambie bedding. I cleared it with DH yesterday and went ahead and ordered it. Since it was on sale it wasn't too expensive and I didn't get the quilt.

Registering - I'm going to register at BRU and PBK. I already started a PBK registry since the bedding I wanted is old and I was worried about it being discontinued (I know Crate & Barrel emailed me when something I registered for was being discontinued so I thought PBK might do the same). I didn't get an email from them so either they just don't do that or the bedding isn't being discontinued. Either way, I'm still getting the bedding and for a great price so it worked out. There's a few other things I want from there so I think I'll keep that registry but I'll register for most things at BRU. I'll probably wait until after my next appt (18 1/2 wks) to register. Gender isn't going to affect anything since I'm setting up a gender neutral nursery.

Please post a gender prediction if you haven't already and I will add it to the first page (if you have a prediction). Also, if you do not plan to find out the gender please post and let me know - I'll add "Its a surprise" to your stats on the first page. :)

Registering We've discussed about where, but not really when. I figure I'd wait till later, I haven't even purchased anything FOR the baby yet, just b/c I was waiting to get out of the 1st trimester.

And is it just me or do any of you feel a little funny at babies R us for yourself, cuz we're so early in our pregnancy, we're probably not showing... I feel like wearing an ultrasound pic on my shirt so that people know i'm not a baby crazy lady just walking around, I really have a purpose, hahaha. I never feel weird when I have a registry printout in my hand, but right now I feel funny being there, hahaha. Like I'm not part of the "club" yet b/c I'm not showing... haha. Just me probably. I'm weird like that.

Hope everyone is having a good day! :)

relly - Thanks. This week has gone kind of slow but it is almost over! I still have all the little notes up. :)

QOTD - We will probably register around Thanksgiving. Hopefully we will know the gender by then. I would register later but I think it will help with Christmas shopping.

Misty - Congrats and welcome!! :)

I'm counting down the days until Friday. Does anyone else think it's so hard to wait 4 weeks between appointments? I have no idea if my OB will do another U/S or not. She seems to like to do them so I wouldn't be suprised if she did.

Charissa - I don't feel too funny at Babies R Us. I guess I'm showing a little although its not obvious. I've been there before to shop for other people when I wasn't pregnant. I think if I was there by myself I might feel more self conscious but with my sisters there to distract me I've just had fun. :)

I'm counting down the days until Friday. Does anyone else think it's so hard to wait 4 weeks between appointments?

yes, it feels like far too long BUT since I need my sick leave for maternity leave I'm happy for now that I've had to take minimal time off for my appts.

ok, now I really need to log out and go find my boss. :( :p

Like I'm not part of the "club" yet b/c I'm not showing... haha. Just me probably. I'm weird like that.

I felt the same way when I went maternity clothes shopping this past weekend. I'm not obviously pregnant but all of my regular clothes are getting way too tight. I didn't feel weird at Gap and Old Navy but Motherhood made me uncomfortable. Everyone in there was super nice, I just felt like an imposter. I guess I felt normal in Gap and ON because I shop there all the time so it wasn't a new store etc.

At BRU and PBK I like to think that people just think I am shopping for someone else. Completely plausible right? :)

Hi gang!
I went shopping in July with a very pregnant friend at Motherhood, and I tried on the cutest top, and bought it... I felt like a dork, but the sales girls said people do it all the time. Little did I know that top would bring me luck as July is when we got pregnant!

Waiting 4 weeks is killing me! I keep thinking it's right around the corner, but it's really 2 1/2 weeks away. I have had the tiniest bit of brown spotting for a couple of days on and off, and have been resting, and feeling better and better now that the UTI is being treated. It's funny how I thought I didn't have any UTI symptoms, but I guess I did!

I am starving... time to find something to eat!

Registering I don't think we'll need to register this time. I have every bit of "gear" I'll need, besides a new stroller (I think I want the Peg Perego Pliko P3) and maybe a new swing (I just borrowed one last time for a few months.) If it's a boy, I've got plenty of clothes, too. :p

wow this thread is moving fast!

Registering We will probably wait until after the big u/s. Do not need too much this time so I will just do things like bedding and a double stroller and lots of sleep sacks. Did not know about those early enough the first time around so we had to buy most of them ourselves.

I am so excited - I think my order from Old Navy should be coming today or tomorrow. Had a check up yesterday. Baby's heartbeat is around 160 and somehow I only gained 2 pounds since my last appointment. YAY!

mel7dog - I don't think it's weird at all that you are registering now. It takes so long to pick everything out, so at least you have a head start.

KB57 - Good luck at your appt tomorrow. I definitely think it's okay to ask your officemate to cut down on the perfume. She should be more sensitive to people around her. Does she know that your pregnant?

Kimmiebride - That's a sweet story about the book. Do you have pics of the bedding you can post? I'd love to see it.

Jane - Glad you made it home and hope you are catching up on rest. Congrats on getting your bedding. Good luck at your appt tomorrow, too.

Txfish - That's very nice of your mom! I'm jealous!

Misty911 - Congrats and Welcome!

Sully - That's too bad your DH will be gone so long. Do you get to spend the holidays together?

Charissa - I've seen women at all stages of pregnancy registering at BRU. We registered there when I was barely showing last time, but I didn't care. I just loved having the power of that scan gun and picking things out! Have fun.

Kopper - 4 weeks is more than torture!! It would be nice if all pregnant woman could get dopplers and u/s machines to take home!

Sal03 - What double stroller are you looking at? I'm pretty sure I don't want to Graco Duoglider because of the weight, so we're thinking about a side-by-side Peg, but I have to make sure it takes a SnugRide. This is going to be our one big purchase this time, so I want to get the right stroller.

Registering - We won't do this. Since we're finding out the sex, I'll let people know and if they want to give gifts, then that's fine. I feel odd about registering since I've already had the showers.

I'm trying to get all of my Halloween decorations out today. I went and bought pumpkins and some mums for the front yard. Now I just need DH to get home so he can plant the mums for me. :)

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Registering: We will not be registering for this baby. I registered at 29 weeks for my DD. NOTE FOR FIRST-TIMERS, based on the experience of myself and my friends who've had babies recently...other than for Sleep Sacks and the like, DO NOT register for clothes! Especially if your baby turns out to be a girl! You will get 500 onesies & many cute outfits, but none of the things you really need. Other mommies in this thread may back me up on this one based on their experience. The day after my shower, I went to target, returned a bunch of clothes for store credit and dropped another $500 on: a digital thermometer, urp cloths, crib sheets, mattress cover, blankets, a baby bath, etc...the list could go on and on as we literally got almost no practical stuff at all :p

Gender Prediction: I now predict BOY

Next Appointment: Is on 10/14

The first one was pretty much of a bust since I got about a thousand super-expensive boutiquey 0-3 outfits in green, yellow, and ducks Sounds sooooo familiar ;) order the miracle blanket. Its ridiculous and overpriced and if you don't get one you will hate yourself and then have to spend the $17 for overnight shipping when you realise its vital to your very sanity. I feel the same way about the wipe warmer. Seems totally frivilous to get one, but GET ONE! It makes midnight diaper changes so much nicer. A cold shocked baby in the middle of the night is no happy camper. Spend the $20. You will not regret it!

Registering: I know we'll register, probably at BRU and somewhere online. I'm all about *not* registering for clothes, especially b/c at our church people pass around tons of gently used baby clothes to each other all the time. So between that and having two sets of 'first time grandparents' who will spoil this baby rotten, we're not planning on buying many clothes at all in that first year ;).

Gender Prediction: I think we're going to be surprised, and my guess is boy.

Has anyone not told their family yet? I haven't told a soul except for my husband of course. One reason is my mom isn't going to be very happy about me having another baby. So it is hard for me to tell her. I'm trying to find the right words to say to her but I just can't get it out. My husband says just tell her you're pregnant. I guess I know I'm going to get a good lecture after I tell her. I guess that is one reason why I have put it off on telling everyone.

Happy Birthday SaphirimalMei!!!

mel7dog - I'm sorry you've been going through a similar separation from your DH. Hopefully you'll be reunited permanently with your hubby soon!

JenniferEC - We'll probably spend Christmas together, but I doubt we'll see each other from Nov. 5 until Christmas (so no Thanksgiving), and then not again until he returns in March. Sigh.

Telling people (Misty's question)... Our parents know and have known since the night we found out. I found out on a visit to my ob/gyn for an unrelated issue; I was only 3w3d! So we've known for seven weeks from today. I told my best friends on my birthday a week later. And we've just slowly started to tell other close friends and relatives. I'm waiting a few more weeks to let the cat out of the bag to everyone else.

Misty, I hope she doesn't lecture you and she is able to just be happy for you guys!

We told everyone... can't shut me up, I guess! I am sure it's hard when you have someone in your life that is going to want to lecture you, but from what my friends who have two boys about the same age apart as your middle baby and your new one, it's really tough in the beginning, but then when they are best friends and so close because they are close in age, it's really cool! And you and your DH are excited about it, so in the end, that's all that really matters, and she'll come around, right? We're glad your here so you can at least enjoy chatting about stuff with us, and hopefully it makes it easier to tell in real life!

Thanks Sully, it is hard being away from DH, but I have already applied to levae the Air Force right before I give birth, hopeully my request gets approved!

As for me feeling pretty good besides being so tired. Still haven't gained any weight, but after my BK lunch yesterday, I'm sure it's not far off!

I am SO wanting to schdeule my big US, to make sure I get it in before Turkey day and on a day DH can take off work to be there. I know I can schedule it at my next apt, but that's not untill Oct 28th and I doubt I could get one is only 3 weeks. The girl I work with has "the number" they give you to call for an US sicne she just had hers, so I think I am going to give it a whirl and hope to get lucky.

Leaving today for D.C. for DH's graducation tomorrow, then heading up to Cape Cod to see my parents! Won't be back till late Monday, but we are very excited. My mom has already bought me a bunch of maternity clothes from ON, and I'm sure we'll do more shopping. Hope everyone has a great weekend :)

I have an OB appt this afternoon. According to my own scale at home, I was only up 1 more pound as of this morning. Hopefully the doctor's scale will be just as kind to me as of this afternoon. I am trying very hard to eat well and I got tons of exercise last weekend (walking around Chicago) so I was really hoping it would pay off and I wouldn't be told today that I'm still gaining too much weight this afternoon.

Yesterday was rough. I threw up twice just from gagging. After the second time I had a pounding headache for the rest of the evening. I was very gaggy this morning but it seems to be going away now.

When I was in Chicago last weekend I did a lot of shopping with my sister. We went to BRU together and I showed her some things I like and she showed me things her kids have enjoyed. It was a lot of fun. The best part was that they had the stroller I want so I got to see it in person and test drive it (the other BRU I've been to didn't have that stroller). I really like the stroller and my sister agreed that it was nice. My Mom asked about it last night and I told her it was $200. She choked a bit over that but then I pointed out that its really an averaged priced stroller. I've seen some cheaper (talking about strollers that work with an infant carrier, not umbrella strollers) and I've seen plenty that were more expensive. She agreed it wasn't a bad deal - I don't have a clue why she choked over it then. I didn't ask her to buy it for me.

I also worked on stocking up my children's library. My sister and I had so much fun shopping for books together. And I bought some more maternity clothes too.

So, I am way behind on shout outs and I know I won't get caught up. So I am sorry to those I have missed. I have been reading along for the past few days so I'm not ignoring you.

Registering - I'm definitely not registering for clothes (or blankets or bibs). I've only known 2 people who registered for a few clothing items and it seemed totally bizzare to me (just hadn't seen it done before, I'm sure its common in some areas though). I'm sure I'll receive some clothing items but I know my family won't bother with that (unless they see something too cute to resist). My sisters have tons of baby clothes to pass on to me so it would be a waste for them to buy me new clothes. Thinking back to my SIL's baby shower this past summer she received mostly registry items and not too terribly many clothing items. So my in-laws seem pretty practical about that. Some clothing is ok, I just need other stuff too. :)

mel - my bedding shipped today. I can't wait to get it. I only ordered the sheets, bed skirt and bumper. I'll have to check out ebay. I don't have a ton of wall space but I was planning to try to draw a few pictures for the walls to go with the theme. I used to take art lessons and draw a lot but its been a long time so this may be a bit overambitious. Its worth a try though. Have you decided on a color to paint the room? I'm thinking green or yellow but won't decide til I have the bedding in my hands.

good luck getting your u/s scheduled. have fun in DC!

Misty - good luck telling your Mom. I hope she takes it well and doesn't spoil this time for you.

Happy Birthday SaphirimalMei! :)

jakedog -
One more piece of advice from a veteran- order the miracle blanket. Its rediculous and overpriced and if you don't get one you will hate yourself and then have to spend the $17 for overnight shipping when you realise its vital to your very sanity.

briamcd these are sleepsacks. they are made by Halo and you can get them at BRU. once DS could break free of the swaddle we put him in these which are basically zip up blankets. They are recommended for SIDS prevention over using a blanket in the crib

mel - I do remember seeing pictures of tgray's nursery long ago. I was thinking of painting mine green like that but I really like the yellow in the bedding. I would do both, one color on the bottom, one on top, but with the sloped walls I have to deal with it would probably not look right.

I have a few sleep sack type things but they're open on the bottom. My sisters said they are great for late night diaper changes. I have no clue if they're recommended for SIDs prevention like the ones Sal just posted.

Heh, I didn't even think of updating my own age... thanks Saphirimal and Happy Birthday! Mine was Oct 2 and I am now 27.

What is a miracle blanket? I am off to find it... never heard of that one. Never had the wipe warmer, either -- just scrunched them up in my hand to warm them for a moment.

Jane, what is this perfect stroller you have found??

Misty, sorry you're stressed about your mom. It's so hard to have people not just be happy for you. ((Hugs))

Happy Birthday Txfish!

this is the stroller I want:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00070QJG2.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Combi Savvy Soho EX Stroller
$199 at BRU, then its another $150 for the infant seat (Combi Connection)
Its light weight, has a full recline so you can put an infant in it without the car seat. The sun shade can actually be pulled all the way down to the snack tray to complete envelope the baby. When the shade sits like it is shown in the picture there is a little see through window to viet the baby through. When the shade is all the way down there is a larger mesh viewing window. The snack tray doesn't have a full flat tray space but it has two cupholders. I figure I can stick snacks in a cup if needed and that still leaves a spot for a cup with a drink in it. I think the biggest complaint in any of the reviews on BRU is that the basket underneath isn't big enough. But my sister said most of the baskets aren't very big anyway.

Double stroller forgot to post about this before. I am borrowing a friend's duoglider while newbaby is still in the snugride. then I am not sure what we will get. I want something with trays and decent sized baskets. one of these days we'll go testdrive some!

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! It was a nice day :)

mel - dont feel stupid! I felt stupid buying one, but I very quickly realized it's true worth...priceless :)

jane - I have a few sleep sack type things but they're open on the bottom. Like this one, right?

Those are gowns and they are AWESOME! DD practically lived in them til she started sleeping through the night (afterwards we switched to regular jammies w/ feet). They're not (as far as I know) in any way related to SIDS prevention because it's just a plain ole jammie, but they do make nighttime diaper changes a breeze...who wants to deal with snaps at 3am while half asleep? ;)

SaphirimalMei Those are the cutest little feet ever!

StrollersI am completely overwhelemed by strollers! I have *tried* to read up, but there's so much info! I posted a long "HELP" about this is the stroller thread if anyone want to give advice. I think we have decided on the Roundabout carseat after I spent half a day reading up on it!

Strollers I'm completely overwhelmed by the options but since we are having twins I am somewhat limited. I love the Zooper

but it weighs 30lbs.

so i might check out the combi

SaphirimalMei - yep, just like that! I bought a few gender neutral ones already and I know my sisters have some more to pass on to me.

Mel - what features are you looking for in a stroller? I'm no expert since this is my first baby but I've done a lot of browsing already. I think I'm going to use the roundabout too as a convertible seat (after the infant seat).

Do you want a stroller that can hold an infant seat?
Do you want a stroller with a full recline? (strollers without a full recline can't be used by an infant without the infant carrier until 6 months)

I really like the Combi I posted above b/c it is lightweight. I also looked at the Britax Preview and Forerunner but neither of those has full recline.

mel7dog
10-05-2005, 09:46 AM
Jane and anyone else who can help

-Fully reclines so I can use it right away when the baby is an infant
- Use the stroller for long trips/walks (I plan on using a sling/bjorn for short trips)
-Will be purchasing a seperate jogging stroller, won't use outside
-$ isn't a big issue, though I can't see spending more than $300, just want good lasting quality and a stroller that is worth the price tag
-Also would prefer somewhat lightweight if possible!

I *think* it sounds like the P3 or a Maclaren model may be for me?

We have the Graco Quattro Tour. It is compatable with the Graco SnugRide Infant seat to make a travel system.

It does have the full recline and it holds an amazing amount of crap in the basket underneath. I usually store the diaper bag in there when tooling around the mall, or at the grocery store, if I dont need a ton of stuff, I bypass using a cart and let my baby ride in style and put the grocery items in the aforementioned basket :p It folds impressively flat for how big it is.

The only thing is: a) I wish it was lighter (26 lbs!) b)I wish that the push bar could flip around. As it is, you can only push the stroller with the baby facing away from you when not in the Infant seat.

Mel - here are some strollers that I think you might like from BRU

Ingelsia Zippy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0008JILK4/qid=1128528561/br=1-11/ref=br_lf_ba_11//002-4770132-1514403?v=glance&s=baby&n=548074)

Combi Savvy Soho EX (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00070QJG2/qid=1128529040/br=1-14/ref=br_lf_ba_14//002-4770132-1514403?v=glance&s=baby&n=542444) (thats the one I already posted about, but this link will give you more info on it)

ok, I keep running across strollers without the full recline. If I find some more for you I will post them. :)

Jane - We have the Combi Soho and love it. It's not as nice as the model you're looking at, but the Combi strollers are so great. They hardly weigh anything and their so easy to clean. I take ours apart every couple of months and throw it in the wash. Another plus is how easy they fold up. If you end up with that stoller, it's a great choice.

My head is spinning with all this stroller talk. First time mom here, and I had NO idea there were so many choices. My brain is going to explode! I think my friend is going to loan us her infant car seat and carrier, and the stroller that goes with it... I remember loading it into her car one day and it was light but so sturdy I was amazed. It's so hard to believe her little boy will be TWO when our baby arrives. I was at his birth, and it seems like yesterday.

TMI alert: has any one had the someone-just-put-my-nipples-in-ground-glass experience?? OMG. I thought I would die. It was cold this morning and I got dressed in my comfy sweats, a loose sports bra thing and my sweatshirt. Right about then I almost had to scream they hurt so bad. I took a hot shower and somehow it subsided. Wowowow... not fun. Lovely - just had to share...

Happy Wednesday everyone,

I'm soo behind, and haven't posted yet here in the new thread, but I have been reading along.

Sully & Mel--Hugs to both of you, I can't imagine being with without my DH during this time! Hope it passes quickly for both of you!

SaphirimalMe--Happy Birthday, did you do anything special?

Now for QOTD's

Registering--we probably will, and will mostly like be like everyone else and just ask for practical stuff. Our parents aren't first timers but they have already told us the stuff they would buy, which is mostly the big $ items. And using my research from Baby Bargains and my Pregnancy class i know which items I want to buy.

Stroller--I think we will be going with the P3 but not sure if the Aria or A4? My DH is the one who has done all the research and we even did a test drive of 1 of them in BRU. He definitely likes it.

As for me, had a very LONG weekend with my MIL. I couldn't wait for Monday to come! I know she means well, but out of her long visit my DH and I decided that we probably won't have her visit until the baby is almost a month old. She is Chinese and anyone who has ILs that are Chinese knows what I'm talking about, all the restrictions, etc. So, to make life easier we'll just tell her to visit (NOT stay over) after the baby is born. Other than that, I'm feeling much better, sleep is hit and miss sometimes, its hard finding a comfortable spot. I can't wait for my appt it is STILL 2 weeks away!

GENDER PREDICTION: I don't know, but DH guesses girl so I'll just go with that.

briamcd
10-05-2005, 01:49 PM
the miracle blanket and the swaddle blankets look so restrictive...do babies really like that?

Sal03
10-05-2005, 02:15 PM
briamcd yes yes yes! Dylan did not like it for too long but in the beginning he loved being swaddled so tightly when he slept. Within a few months, no more swaddling of his arms, but he did like me to swaddle him under his armpits so he could be partially swaddled. They love that security of being tightly bundled :)

Ok. well, i got lots to learn. I'd freak out if i was wrapped up like that, but i'm not a baby either. So...I'm learning. :)

Kimmiebride
10-05-2005, 02:48 PM
Briamcd, it's like when they're inside... all snuggled in... it calms them. They don't like all that flailing about in the beginning. I personally can't handle having a sheet over me, much less all wrapped like a burrito, but babies love that stuff! :)

Hi ladies just checking in real quick, just came from my OB appt and everything is looking great. DH came too and got to see a live shot of the little one. I had my first regular u/s (as opposed to the internal) and we got to hear the heartbeat which we would have heard a little better but the baby was kicking so much all you heard were these big "whoosh" sounds that drowned it out!! Baby is measuring 8.25 cm which is right on and the HB was 155bpm. DH was speechless. It really is unbelievable. Oh, and I only gained 2lbs since my last visit 4 weeks ago. My next appt is 10/26/05 and I'll be having the quad screen and be getting my flu shot.
Hope all is well with everyone...I have to run to class now :)

My appointment went well. My blood pressure was insanely high at first when she used a machine type thing. Then she took it manually and it was perfectly normal. So from now on she said they'd take mine manually. The doctor found the heartbeat and said the rate was about 155-160. No complaints about my weight this time, I was up by about 2lbs as of this afternoon (from last month). My next appointment is Nov. 2 and I'll go back on Nov 14 for the u/s (will be 20wks then). :) Unless DH insists on it I think we'll be declining the AFP when we go in next time. He doesn't know much about it so he wants to read up about it before making a decision.

Jennifer - thanks for the positive feedback on the Combi. :)

Saphirimalmei and Txfish - Happy Belated Birthdays!!

Misty - I agree with briamcd, "babies are such miracles". Go ahead and tell your Mom so you can get that off your back, let her lecture, then its all over. Maybe she'll surprise you and be ok with it. I remember when my older sister was afraid to tell us she was having her 3rd child, I couldn't understand why she was worried we wouldn't be happy for her, we were all thrilled. She was so relieved after she told us.

Mel - good luck with u/s call.

Kimmie - baby burritos, that's funny.

Strollers - wow, I had no idea it'd be so tough, sounds as if it's just like shopping for a car, eek. My sister has this fancy schmancy double stroller she'll pass on to me. I want a jogger double stroller so I think I'll check out Jakedogs's H's new ride, the DDD.

Thanks for all the tips regarding must haves, keep 'em coming.

The sad thing is my mom has said it over and over again, "I hope you're not planning on having more children" Everytime she has said that I have just kept my mouth shut. I wish i could just face her and tell her so I can get it off of my chest. My husband and I both work 12 hours shifts and at times my mom has to keep my kids through the night. Sometimes she watches them during the day just for a few hours (not the whole 12 hours)

Last Saturday night we went to a church auction and I started bidding on a baby blanket and she looked at me and said "I hope you're not pregnant again" I didn't say a word! That was probably the best opportunity, I should have told her then.

Hi Ladies! I am just checking in. I won't be on much in the next week or so since we still don't have internet at home (I am at DH's office right now).

Our move was a nightmare and that is all I will say but we do love our new house!

Telling parents: We told the IL's this weekend. We bought a #8 birthday candle for MIL since this is her 8th grandchild and of course DH couldn't wait until the morning to tell them so when we arrived at midnight he gave it to his mom and she had no clue what it meant. Finally it clicked but you got to give her a break since it was so late. We are telling my family this weekend so it should be interesting!

I have to find an OB in my area now but since we are leaving tomorrow for a week in Boston I won't be doing that until next week probably.

Gender prediction: Girl

Sorry for no shoutouts but time is limited!

I am so tired today. Our dog was sick (vomitting) all night long. He stopped 6hrs ago (3am) so I think he'll be ok now but it was a scarey and awful and sleepless night. DH leaves today for NC. He's taking a board exam there tomorrow and Saturday. He'll be staying with my Mom and then coming back Sunday night so I'm on my own for a few days. But this is good timing b/c he's home right now and not leaving til noon so our dog will only be alone for a few hours before I get home from work. :( Poor puppy. It just broke my heart to see him hurting.

I just found out yesterday that my neice's christening is in 2wks. So now I need to figure out what to wear. I think I'll look for some tan pants this weekend and then I could dress them up with a sweater set (I have a bunch of those from my sisters) and some fun jewelry. I want to be dressed appropriately for the occasion but I'm not looking to buy something I'm only going to wear once.

Misty - I am so sorry that your Mom has been so negative to you about having more children. :(

KB57 - I'm glad your appt went well. :)

jeeplover - I'm sorry your move was rough, but welcome to the area. :)

Misty I am so sorry you have to worry about this. Your mom's comments are just mean. And really, it's YOUR life not hers. Children are a blessing and she should realize that. Try not to let it bother you too much. Although I know from my own mother issues - it's hard!

KB57 Congrats on such a good appt!

jeeplover congrats on telling the inlaws. so much fun!

My Old Navy order came today. YAY! And everything actually fits well. It is kind of annoying that so many have these really low v-necks. they seem to assume that everyone gets a huge chest during pregnancy. not at ALL true for me! But I did find 4 tops that are comfortable and nice soft fabrics so I am happy. I did not realize how clingy my other clothes were until I tried these on! Feeling so much better. Nausea is only an occasional thing now and I have much more energy. DH and I are going away for the night on Sunday to a wedding at a romantic inn and I am so excited. We will obviously miss Dylan but we want to get in a few getaways before newbaby is born.

Jane, hope pup is feeling better. Poor guy.

OK, I don't know if I mentioned it before -- when I was in Dallas we met up with my SIL's friend, who has a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old. She had this awesome stroller -- not really a double, because it was just a bench seat. But it had a normal stroller seat for the other kid, and could connect with infant seats. I just found it -- I doubt we'd get a ton of use out of it, as dd is almost 5 then, but for someone else who doesn't want to do a full-on double:

http://i5.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/1a/62/bc_1.JPG?set_id=7

It's a Baby Trend Deluxe Sit n Stand or something like that... found it on ebay.

I think I'm being converted to the Combi with Jane... becoming less impressed with the P3 Pliko. Plus, although a lot of the reviews are complaining that the seat is too small for their kid, my dd fits in it fine right now at 35 lbs and 4.5 years. Plus, I read that they have a button for the recline instead of the drawstring now? True?

Jane: hope your pup is better....nothing's sadder than a sick puppy :(

As for strollers, I'm determined to NOT be my SIL and have $900 worth of strollers before baby is 1. (and not one is the bugaboo!) She's got a P3, Aira, a Zooper, a Zippy and something else just trying to find the perfect stroller. Hm...maybe I'll just luck out and she'll give me what she doesn't like anymore :P

Ideally, I'm going to sling as much as possible (a hotsling at first, then a mei tai) and then transition to a Maclaren (Truimph or Techno) for the longer outings. I'm not adverse to the snap-n-go, but would like to find one on ebay/local consignment. I will be test-driving one of these days, so who knows...my opinions may soon change!

Misty - That's too bad about your mom. It's your and your DH's decision on when to have children and how many to have. She should be happy that she's getting another grandchild and leave it at that.

jeeplover - I hope things settle down with your move.

Jane - Sorry to hear about your furbaby. I hope he's feeling better by the time you get home.

cagey - Those bugaboos are nice, but so darn expensive. Your sister has some nice strollers!

We got our doppler yesterday and I had to wait for DH to get home from work so we could find the heartbeat together. It took a few minutes but we found it. Such relief! Now we can finish telling everyone.

It's almost Friday!!!!!!!!! :)

my dog still won't eat and my vet office has no vets right now b/c the vet is helping out in Louisiana. Its great that he's doing that but I think its rather irresponsible to leave the practice doctorless. :( A local CC member recommended a vet to me so I'll be calling in the morning and begging them to work us in. Which means I need to use more time off that I can't afford. :( dammit, I just want my dog to be happy and healthy again.

sorry to be such a downer, but I'm home alone til Sunday and feeling rather helpless.

Jane- sorry to hear your pup is sick, my world revolves around our "baby". He was really sick the other night too but luckily it turned out he had just eaten a bunch of leaves and once he threw them up he was fine...
have you tried chicken and rice or some pumpkin?
Does he have a fever?
I agree that its irresponsible of your vet to leave and at least not have another vet covering emergencies! Luckily we go to a really large practice where there are like 20 vets and they are open 24/7.
Good luck,,i hope he feels better soon!

Butter is doing a little better this morning but he's still not well. I have an 11am appt with him with a new vet. I was supposed to meet with my boss this afternoon to discuss maternity leave and related issues (he works elsewhere so he's not normally here) so now I need to tell him I'm heading out soon. He's a vet (although not practicing) so he ought to understand.

jrsygirl - last time he got sick he wouldn't eat rice but he ate chicken. I've tried chicken, tuna, cat food and pupperoni treats this time. I stuck some peanut butter on his tongue and got him to swallow little.

He actually licked at the food this morning but still wouldn't eat it. Hopefully the vet will be able to fix him up for me. I'm pretty sure all he did was eat too many pine cones so I thought he'd be ok once he finished puking but he's not.

aww poor Butter.

Why oh why do they insist on eating crap all the time? Brody *loves* to chew up sticks and twigs. He's my little mulcher, unfortunately they don't associate eating crap with not feeling well.

Jane&Andy
10-07-2005, 07:52 AM
unfortunately he really really loves eating sticks and pine cones and all that crap. A few are ok but he just can't feast on them like he likes to. He's gotten sick before but has always recovered quickly. I've only had to take him the vet once before for this and he was puking and had diarrhea all at once so it was pretty severe that time.

I'm heading out in a few minutes. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Jane&Andy - I'm so sorry about your dog. I'm glad the vet could work him in. Poor thing! :( Let us know how it goes.

---
I had my appointment today. It was supposed to be a regular appointment where she used the doppler to hear the HB etc but when she came in she asked if we wanted to see the baby. I had a feeling that would happen. :D She really loves to do U/S and I wouldn't be surprised if we have one every appointment. The baby is doing great. We were able to see the brain, spinal column, heart, fingers, toes etc. Everything looks great.

I have been having more sciatic pain recently. It is much worse in the evenings. I mentioned it to her and she said it was early but it sounds like what I have been experiencing. She also said that since it is much worse in the evenings that my nerves are probably swelling through out the day. Last night I could barely walk and laying down was the only thing that helped. She gave me some information and I'm going to check out that video. If things get worse she said she would send me to physical therapy. She also said that if I am feeling pain right now it would only get worse with time. I am probably more sucptible because my hips are uneven and I have had hip pain when running or after walking long distances.

Sorry I wrote a novel! Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Oh one more thing.... My mom and I are going to look at this rocking chair tonight. She wants to buy it for me if I like it. It's Stickley. I'm not sure about the cushion color. Hopefully they will have other colors.

thanks everyone for the support and well wishes for my pup.

Butter is staying at the vet's overnight. She palpated his abdomen and could feel something in there. There was blood on the thermometer when she took his temperature but he didn't have a fever. And it did seem to cause him any pain when she palpated him. They took xrays and there is definitely something in there that shouldn't be. Its somewhere in his small intestine. But she said if his small intestine was completely blocked then he would have continued to vomit over and over. He does have some pretty wretched breath right now though. She said it almost looked like it could be fabric in him. I know Andy had him outside some while he studied but he didn't have him loose in the house. Butter picks up socks and wash cloths, etc all the time but he gets very excited and prances around the house with them so I've always gotten whatever it was away from him before he did anything but slobber all over it. So I'd be pretty baffled if it does turn out to be fabric. She said he's not in immediate distress. They're going to give him some fluids to rehydrate him and try to get him to eat something nice and gooey (the fluids could help lubricate whatever is in there and help it move along). They're going to do another xray in the morning to see if the mass is moving. If it doesn't move then they'll have to do surgery to remove it.

I'm at home now, didn't feel up to going back to work. I'm going to try to make up some of the time next week.

I'm not feeling up to shout outs right now. I'll check back in later this weekend and work on updates then.

Oh Jane - I totally feel for you. I'm so glad that you got in to see the vet and that hopefully Butter is on his way to feeling better. Our dog has a sensitive tummy, and she is always eating things out in the backyard. She used to throw up in the house about once every 2 weeks - but she's much better now.

DH is back today after being gone all week. He's home for 2 weeks before his next trip. I hate it when he travels.

I got a flu shot yesterday - is anyone else getting one? My dr. said to get one, but a few people in the office (not dr's  ) were saying not to get one in the first trimester.

I've been sooo tired. I'm having my second Starbucks of the day (decaf of course). Trying to trick myself into having more energy!

thanks everyone for the support. No word from the vet so I guess no news is good news (I wasn't expecting a call tonight unless something goes wrong).

I started working on a drawing to hang on the wall of the nursery. Nothing fancy, just a simple design copied off the bumper (sheep jumping over a fence). I have to go back to the craft store for one more thing before I can finish it. I'd like to do one more drawing and then frame them in simple, white frames. I'll probably hang them up over the changing table, just depends on how we end up arranging the furniture.

LittleStar - my last dog developed a sensitive stomach when he got older. He had bad diarrhea every 4-6wks until I finally found a diet that worked for him, that was so not fun. But at least he did like to devour yard debris.

I haven't gotten a flu shot and my doctor hasn't mentioned it. I guess I should call my GP and see if they'll give me one. I don't normally get them and I never get the flu but just watch - this is the one year I really shouldn't get it and it will be the one year I do get it.

Kopper - yay for getting an extra u/s. I still haven't gotten 1! oh well, just a few more weeks.

Jane - No news is good news. I hope Butter starts feeling better and eating so whatever he has in his belly will pass soon.

I think my doctor is just U/S happy which I don't mind at all. :)

QOTD - I will be getting the flu shot but I'm not sure when. My OB should have the vaccine in a few weeks but if I can find it somewhere sooner I will get it.

3D/4D U/S - Does anyone plan on getting one? DH really, really wants to do this so I'm pretty sure we will be having one. My doctor does them in her office and is pretty reasonable. She said the best time to have one is around 30w.

Jane - I hope Butter is feeling better now and you can get some rest. I don't think there are many updates for the thread, but I can take care of them either tonight or tomorrow.

Kopper - That's a very pretty chair! What color are you thinking of getting?

QOTD - My doctor pretty much insisted I get one last time, so I'm sure it will be the same this time.

4D U/S - My doctor's office just started offering these. We'll do them depending on the cost, because I'm sure insurance doesn't cover them.

Jane--hope Butter feels better, I'm sure you'll hear good news tomorrow.

QOTD's

Flu shots--I wasn't planning on getting one I never have actually.

4D--yup we plan on getting them, our dr office I don't think does them, but a place nearby that specializes in doing just those ultrasounds is where we are going to go. I've been to their site and they say you can have it done and see the features as early as 25 weeks.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!:D

Like I said, they're nothing fancy but I'm pretty happy with them.

Jennifer - thanks, I think there are only a few updates so if you don't have a chance to do it I will do it eventually.

4d/3d u/s - nope. I hadn't really thought about it before but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be pretty broke once the dog is done at the vet's. Plus we have to upgrade one of our cars to a bigger one before we have the baby.

Butter is home now. :) Whatever is in there has moved into his large intestine and should pass soon. He's spunkier and ate some kibble as soon as I got him home. He's blown his toy budget for next year but I'm just happy he is ok. :)

Jane Thanks for posting that stroller info, good thing we have a while still because I have more reading to do. I LOVE the lambie pics you posted, they looks exactly like the bedding.

Snap n Go/Travel system ? I have read somewhere (I think in a CC thread) that leaving in baby in their car seat/carrier when using a travel system is bad because the baby is so contsricted. Does anyone know if this is proven true? Is the Snap n Go just a holder for the carrier?

I got a TON of clothes at ON this weekend! Since I am in MA visiting my parents both the ON here carry maternity so I went crazy. 3 pairs of jeans (1 capri), 1 pair of kakais, 5 tie back shirts, t-shirt, tie back sweater, and 3 packs of low rise thongs. I find the tie backs work great for growing! I am just starting to really show I am looks pg for sure with the tie back shirts on. As far as sizes, the clothes do run big. I usally wear a size small, but I got everything XS and most of it is still a little big on me. I feel like ON has a decent selection at great prices :)

3d/4d: Nope, we're not planning on getting the 3d/4d. We're only doing one ultrasound for the whole pregnancy around 20 weeks at the midwife's office and we're happy with that :).

thanks Kimmie and Mel. :)

Mel - I've heard that too about leaving them in carseats for too long (from other CC members). I mentioned it to my sister and she had never heard it. of course, she also didn't use a travel system - she has a mountain buggy stroller with a bassinet type thingy for newborns (she lives in the city so that kind of stroller is nice for her but fancier than I need).

Butter isn't back to 100% yet but he ate and he has passed some more yard debris. The vet was afraid maybe he'd gotten ahold of a sock - if that was the case we were going to become a sock free household. But it looks like he just overindulged on pine needles and pine cones.

Aside from the stress over Butter its been a dull weekend without DH. He'll be home tomorrow night and then we both have Monday off. I have to come into work early on Tuesday and Wednesday. That ought to be fun. I don't move fast in the mornings these days.

I think tomorrow I'm going to run out to Motherhood Maternity in search of tan pants - I need something dressy to wear in 2wks for my neice's christening.

Hey there!
Jane - Glad to hear Butter is okay! You are so talented doing those drawings! Well done! :)

Yesterday was my birthday so now I am 25! Can you please change it on the front page? Thankyou! :)
I had a lovely day and announced the pregnancy to some close friends. They were surprised I kept it a secret so well! :)
Is anyone feeling anything that could be the baby moving? Yesterday I could have sworn I felt it move! I have been feeling little 'pops' since 9 weeks but this felt like the butterflies or little fishies that everyone describes. I haven't felt it again yet, but it could have been! :)

Jane - I love the drawings. I think it's really special the baby will have something you created hanging on the walls.

FluShots - I got the flu earlier this year and it sucked so I was planning on getting one anyway. I think I'll wait a couple of more weeks though, so I'm safely out of the first trimester. I haven't asked the doc about it, but waiting will make me feel better.

3D u/s - my doc doesn't do them in his office, but we will probably still get one done somewhere else. I will just love getting to see the baby's face before s/he is born.

Stumbles - Happy belated Birthday!

Jane&Andy - Fantastic sketches, I love them. You are very talented. So sorry to hear about Butter, hope it all passes quick and he's up and running around soon.

Mel - congrats on the big score at ON.

Flu shot - will ask the midwife about that, I would like to get it, but I don't have a primary physician. Never had one before.

3D/4D - not likely since it probably costs a little bit more than we can afford to spend. I definitely would if that were not an issue.

Threw on a t-shirt and shorts this morning and was thrilled to see that I actually look pregnant rather than pudgy. I hope to venture to the mall on Monday for some maternity clothes.

Hope you all are having a nice Columbus Day week-end.

I was just at Old Navy tonight and they have tan dress pants *on clearance* for under $20. I got a pair in black and they're really nice and comfy. If you have an ON near you that sells maternity it might be worth it to check them out. I looked on the website and the closest match i could find is $30. The pictures you drew are really cool :).

Butter is pack to 100% today. Now he needs a bath. :p He passed some more yard debris yesterday afternoon and is feeling better now. He's tried to chase the cats and when it was time for bed last night he asked to play ball instead. Thats the wild and crazy pup I'm used to. :)

Sevilla - sounds like I should check out ON first. I do have one by me. :)

happy birthday Stumbles!!!

Thanks for the info on ON. I am needing pants desperately... I didn't have a lot of luck with them last time, but that's cuz I bought on-line and couldn't try on... I think I'll make a trip to the store tomorrow!

I shot my last wedding of the season yesterday, and it was beautiful! It's nice to be "done" for a while. It was in Santa Cruz, which is about an hour or so from here, but ended at 10PM, so I splurged and got a hotel down there. I didn't sleep too well, but I never would have made it home driving late at night, so it was still worth it. I missed my honey!

Gotta go and tackle these wedding images now!

I ended up having great luck at Motherhood Maternity. So far I've had better luck shopping there than anywhere else - good prices, nice clothes. They had tan pants in petites on sale. I picked up a few more tops and a cute sweater too.

DH is home now. Its good to have him home and smiling (he was stressed last week leading up to taking his test). He was staying with my Mom for the test and came back with a bunch of baby gear from my sisters - swing, play matt, exersaucer, a mobile that sits on the dresser and a bunch of newborn sized diapers.

Morning ladies!

Jane, so glad to hear that Butter is doing better and no surgery was required -- scary! Poor pup. Great that you found some good clothes, too!

QOTD: Flu shots, I've never had one and probably won't get one this year. Trying to decide more if my dd and dh need to get one, to save me the hassle of taking care of them all winter! ;)

My appt was Fri aft, and all seems well. Baby's hb is 155, and I don't think I gained any weight -- just held steady. (But I didn't lose any, either, or else she would have yelled at me.) My bp was really low, though -- 110/60! Mine has always been right at 120/80. Weird. She does still want me to see the high-risk OB for further consult on the platelets deal -- she said that while the hematologist doesn't see any risk, that most anesthesiologists won't do an epidural if the platelet count is at 100 or lower, so we'll need to keep monitoring and consider steroids if I start approaching that point. Good thing they didn't check my blood prior to birth last time!!

Also, my OB is leaving the practice :( She was going to try to stay through June and deliver everyone she already had, but the job starts in December so I only get her for one more month. Sigh. My next appt is Nov. 4th and then I'll have the big U/S 2 weeks later (no appt. date yet though.)

I need to go shopping this weekend for something for my sister's baby shower -- I really need to find a tie-back "adjustable" dress or something, because I do not want to buy a whole outfit that I will undoubtedly not be able to wear more than 2 weeks. I couldn't have just popped a belly by now? Honestly!

Have a great day!

We had our doctor's appointment this morning. We met with the OB and really liked her. She reviewed my chart and asked some questions. We also got to hear the heart beat! :) She warned us that we may not be able to hear it this early so not to worry if we don't hear it, but I was so relieved and excited to hear it! Our next appointment is November 9th and we will make an appointment around the 20 week mark to make the BIG ultrasound!

JenniferEC - I didn't end up getting the rocking chair. It wasn't exactly what I wanted (too narrow and the only cushion color they had was black). I didn't want my mom to spend that much money on something I wouldn't be completely happy with. Oh well...

Jane - Those are great sketches! Depending on how long they took you could start a side business and sell PBK like sketches on Ebay. :) Glad Butter is doing much better and you DH is home.

Happy Birthday to all the October Ladies!

Txfish - Sorry your OB is leaving the practice. Are there other doctors in the practice you like or will you have to switch?

Kimmiebride - Yay for being done with weddings for the season. I bet that feels great.

Stumbles - That could be movement! I keep trying to see if I feel anything but nothing yet.

DH said my ON order came in today. I can't wait to get home to see everything. I'm sure half of it will have to be returned but oh well. :) One other note, if you do order from ON online there is a free shipping code if you spend $100 and use a Visa (VISAWEB1). Jane Your drawings are beautiful!

I am too tired for SOs. The past two nights I did not go to sleep until 2am which is WAY too late now. With all the rain around here our basement flooded and it was a nightmare. I feel guilty complaining about 3 inches of water after katrina but it was a big PITA. Luckily anything that was ruined was junk we needed to throw out anyway!

thanks so much for all the compliments on the drawings. I showed them to DH when he got back in town and he said he liked them so now I just need frames. But I probably won't buy frames til we buy the furniture. I know I want white so I don't know why I'm hesitating over the frames.

DH got a bunch of chores done yesterday so now he is ready to start working on our fence again. I hope he can finish it before winter - I'd love for our dog to be able to run free in the snow. But in the end, it just needs to be done before we have the baby.

Ooh, Vegas sounds fun. We were supposed to get a 4 day cruise sometime early spring, but that fell through so now we'll just have to leave dd at my parents' for the weekend and pretend we're on vaca!

My OB: yes, there are 2 other choices in the practice, so I definitely won't leave that office. It's too convenient -- across the hall from the birthing center at the hospital! So, I'm lazy - what of it? LOL One of them is a guy that I have my boss going to and my neighbor has confirmed that he's great, so probably him.

Blech -- thought I was done with the nausea, and it's come back. At least it only hits in wave now, instead of the constant queasiness I had before. My dh prentended to scold me last night for "wasting good food" -- that's going to cost him a pair of shoes. ;)

RE: Vegas & smoking... they can and do smoke everywhere in Vegas! Just be careful. I usually go every year for the photography convention, and every year I have come home very sick, since I am allergic to smoke. A few years ago my boss booked us in the Tropicana, and they forgot to give us a non-smoking room. My boss wouldn't go get it changed, and so I ended up in the hospital when I got home. It's the only reason I don't go to Vegas more often, since it's really become such a cool place. I just can't stand the smoke!!! Shopping is a good respite, as they can't smoke in the mall areas, from what I remember, and the Bellagio is beautiful, and the air processing is really good! Have fun on your last hurrah before the baby!

Our last hurrah is to visit Kauai!!! I have a wedding scheduled in January, and we are going for a week. Both DH & I have never been!! He's a little bummed that he has to be my assistant for the wedding, but I think he'll get over it!

Mel I found the newer hotels to have amazing circulation. It did not feel smoky at all! When we went to explore the older section of vegas near the stratosphere, there it was VERY smoky. And if someone came by me who was smoking, I just moved. But none of our clothes or anything were smoky

Kimmie I am SO jealous. We went to Kauai on our honeymoon and just loved it.

As for water, I have been putting ice and a squirt of lemon juice in it which helps and I also drink a ton of seltzer.

My boss & I have taken to keeping a gallon of milk in our work fridge, too LOL I try to get a glass in during the day. Iced tea, iced tea, iced tea. :)

I think we're having pie later -- my office does a cake-of-your-choice for everyone's birthday, and mine's a little delayed. But who cares, it's pie! :D

Hi everyone,

Boy it seems a lot of us are going/went to Vegas as the last trip before baby!
Of course Kimmie I wish I could have been like you and went to Hawaii! We were trying to go but it didn't work out $ wise, so that's why we went to Vegas.

Mel-yeah the smoking isn't really too bad like Txfish said all of the newer hotels have pretty good air circulation. Its just the old "downtown" area is where it is bad. And like Sal said, there is always a ton of clean bathrooms and places to rest! that was the best part, next to the food!
Hope you and your DH have a great time!

As for me yeah its been pretty steady at work so that's why I haven't posted as much this past week. I don't have any constant nausea anymore, just when I haven't eaten anything. Oh and I did notice yesterday that when I bend over, that is SOOO not a good feeling.:( Anyone else noticed that? I just feel a big pressure on my stomach and then a little nauseated too.

Sevilla

Fluids: I drink diluted gatorade or juice + water (3 parts water to 1 part juice--white grape juice and fruit punch by Luicy Juice are both good).

jakedog: Your poor SIL! I hate when people don't get the support they want and need. I'm really glad i have a pro-bf midwife and that my family and church are really pro-bfing. Plus there are such great internet resources out there to help too. I think i'll go to a LLL meeting when i'm in my 3rd trimester too. For our baby especially breastfeeding will be important b/c both DH and I have a family history of food allergies along with having them ourselves. If we were to put the baby on formula it would have to be the super-expensive, hypoallergenic one b/c the regular cow's milk and soy-based formulas would most likely cause a major reaction and possibly lead to more allergies later.

JenniferEC
10-11-2005, 06:21 PM
jakedog - That's too bad about your SIL! I delivered at a hospital that was supposed to be pro-BF, but it was anything but that. The LC came about 12 hours after DS was born, and I was so tired from the labor and delivery and from being up all night with him that I had a hard time hearing what she was saying. I was literally falling asleep while she was showing me what to do. And she never came back! I guess I was only entitled to one visit. Each time after that when DS needed to eat, I'd get a different nurse and each one had different advice on what to do. My DS would scream and scream and I had no idea how to get him to latch on. It was so frustrating. The formula they had in the bassinet was so tempting. This time I plan to have my own help and not depend on the hospital/nurses so much. One of the moms in my mom's group is studying to be a LL leader so I'm going to have her help me out.

Sal03
10-11-2005, 06:38 PM
So please, please please, if you plan to give BF a shot, do your homework and bulild a 'village' to support you when the baby comes. YOu may not need it and everything may just go hunky dory for you but at least you know that if you do need it, it will be there for you.

Jakedog this is so true. My hospital was mostly supportive but I did hear from one of the nurses in the nursery that I should give Dylan formula because he was down in weight by the time we were getting ready to leave the hospital. This happens to almost every baby and is totally normal!! Luckily I had really educated myself and knew he would be fine. My ped practice is completely pro-BFing and so supportive which also helped. I very highly recommend to everyone planning on breastfeeding to read So That's What They're For: Breastfeeding Basics by Janet Tamaro. That book was my bible and really gave me the courage to keep it up in those tough first 6 weeks after giving birth and I ended up nursing for a year. And the BFing thread is an amazing resource too. And of course all of us repeat offenders who did it will be here for you as well :D

I plan on breastfeeding, but I really have no clue what to do. I'm really scared i'm gonna fail at it. I just plan on doing homework. reading and maybe seeing if my library has any videos. As for support, I have no clue where to look for it. I feel so alone when it comes to what i'm gonna do after the baby gets here. My mom unfortunately doesn't like to give advice. (some might think that's great) but I'm really looking for help. I will be getting that book that Sal is talking about. Hopefully I'll find enough help between books, videos, & message boards.

Hello and congratulations to everyone! I'm new and have been a guest lurker for a couple weeks. I will be 14 weeks along tomorrow, so I feel truly into the second trimester and ready to join.

Me: Jennifer, 28
DH: Brian, 35
Married: July 19, 2003
TTC: February 2005
BFP: August 2, 2005
EDD: April 13, 2006
Gender prediction: boy
Next Appointment: Friday, October 14th

About my pregnancy so far: I got to see my OB right away after I found out at 5 weeks. At 8 weeks, I got the flu and had a really high fever, so I ended up in the ER. But the best thing about all that is that we've had 4 ultrasounds to see our little one, and everything looks fine. I am still coughing from that flu, but feeling much better. I've had very little morning sickness, I wasn't overly tired, and I think I gained about 4 pounds in the first trimester.

As for this trimester, I MUST eat every two-three hours and also love fruit punch/juices.

Breastfeeding: I would love to do this but am very worried about all the potential issues. The suggestion of the village is wonderful and something I will definitely look into. I'm not sure how supportive our hospital is.

Welcome luckyduck.

Breastfeeding - I really want to succeed at this and expect it to be tough with 2 babies. Thanks for the tips, I will definitely research this and make a point to let my midwife and the hospital staff know that it is very important to me.

High Blood Pressure - had a very quick appt. today, my midwife had to get going to a c-section. She did a quick u/s, both Posh and Becks are looking good and they both were sucking their fingers. I heard one of the heartbeats, she didn't try for more than a few seconds to pick up the other. I need to go again next Tuesday, so I'm sure she'll spend more time searching for the heartbeats. Unfortunately, I do have high blood pressure. I always have been on the high side at my yearly gyn appts. These past few visits we've kind of blamed it on my extreme nervousness before my appointments. I was determined today to be calm and I really felt like it would be in the normal range. But it wasn't. I need to pop in on my way to work tomorrow for another bp check and I don't think much will change. I did read in my pregnancy book that I am able to take medication for it, we'll see if that's what they'll do. I must say I am very concerned, I know it can cause severe problems when I'm further along. It was something I was worried about in the future so it's probably for the best that we'll be getting in under control now so maybe by then it won't be an issue.

Next appt: Tues, Oct. 18th

Welcome Lucky Duck!!

Relly, I am in the same boat I fear. I take mine at home every day, and the bottom number is always over 90... I know that's not good! My doc is going to do something about it at my next appointment - I really think I should be on medicine... I am afraid of what the high BP does to the little one!

I had my group pre-natal. Boring as all heck. Basically just going over the blood and urine tests they do for everyone, and a little about CVS, AFP and amnio. The people in my class were nice enough, but everyone was quiet, and we didn't do any socializing. Off to lab for the 6 vials of blood, and PIAC, and then I went to Subway for lunch. I never did find pie. I will be on a quest tomorrow!
night all!

Welcome Lucky Duck!

Briamcd You should check at your hospital and see if they have a breastfeeding class. I went to one and actually took my mom with me. DH was totally on board with BFing and reading a long with me in my books but I brought my mom so I would have another person really educated on BFing and it was a good class. Taught you about potential problems, showed lots of pics of proper latches, you held baby dolls to learn the different holding positions. Just something to look into

Thanks Sal for the suggestion, I'll look into what my hospital has to offer.

jackdog Sorry your are still getting sick :( That's terrible about your SIL! BF is hard enought with lots of support, that maked me mad people were not giving her the help she needed.

Sal That books sounds good, I think it's already on my wish list

Lucky Welcome! Glad to see some new members! I have to eat every 2-3 hours as well. I have been sticking with my healthy eating of many small meals, which is even harder when you want food all the time being pg!

Relly Gald both babies are looking good!

Kimmie LOL for pie! I am going food shopping today and hope I won't get myself if too much trouble buying "crave" food. Question about high blood pressure, I know there are ways to prevent this usually, but what can someone do during pregnancy to lower theirs? Also what are the risks involved with HPB during pregnancy? Just trying to stay informed!

Breastfeeding I plan on BF for at least a year if all goes well. All of the woman in my family have had great success BF so hopefully I am no exception. I am determined to get the Medula breastpump as well, dispite the large price tag!

Hi All, it's been forever since I have posted, but I've been trying to at least read along when I get the chance to...work has been busy and since I am at a computer all day, the last thing I want to do when I get home is get online.

Things have been going great with the pregnancy- we've had 2 ultrasounds and everything looks good with baby boo. I've not been sick at all, just a little nauseous sometimes and I have a huge aversion to meat. All kinds. Especially if I cook it. I've been pretty diligent about trying to get my protein elsewhere and eating out a couple times a week and having someone else cook me meat:) Great excuse not to cook! My husband's been great about trying to cook for me, but I don't even want meat when he cooks it- see, I can smell it. yuck. :p
I actually lost 2 pounds my first trimester... I guess just from eating so healthily. I can't get enough fruit and yogurt.

Haven't bought anything maternity yet, but I'm def going to have to soon. Probably can squeeze out another few weeks, but that's it. Going to look at Old Navy online today. Not sure if they sell maternity at the stores here in Manhattan- I guess I should call. The one nearby is always such a madhouse though- like huge lines for the dressing room etc. I'll probably just be lazy and order online anyway. Can't deal!

I very much want to be able to breastfeed, and I am concerend about failing. My Mom and Mother-in-law didn't (I think it was out of "fashion" if you will, in the early 70's) and I am the oldest sibling. Hopefully books, web sites, and my friends will be able to lend support. It's very important to me to succeed at it.

Question on strollers- I live in a third floor walk-up (yeah looking forward to that come April), so I need something really light that can be used for an infant - I'm thinking a travel system might work best, this way I can carry the baby in the seat and the rest of the stroller in the other hand... I plan to use a baby bjorn as well, so that will help. My Mom says I need to develop a pulley system off my balcony for the stroller ;) She dreads my stairs!

I'm *really* bad a shout outs (I get overwhelmed!) and really posting in general, but I'm glad everyone is doing well, and I enjoy your advice and all of your posts.:D

Congratulations and Welcome Lucky Duck! :D

Breastfeeding - I plan to do it. Although I will be returning to work so I have a feeling I'll be supplementing with formula. I think I will have lots of family support. My DH is all for it. My Mom will be with me for the first week - she breast fed me and as far as I know never did or said anything to discourage my sisters from breastfeeding. One sister did not keep up with for as long with her two kids as my other sister did for various reasons but she still got in a few months of breastmilk.

relly - Good luck with your blood pressure. Mine was high for the first few appointments but now its back to normal.

mel - great belly shot! I keep thinking about taking one and then I chicken out. :o I do make crystal light a lot as an alternative to plain water - its just not as yummy as real lemonade.

noodle - its great to hear from you! :) I'm glad you are doing well. There are some light travel systems out there that would be easier for you to carry up those stairs. I've heard Graco's are pretty bulky. I'm planning to get a Combi. Britax also makes some lightweight strollers. I know there are other options out there, those are just the brands I am most familiar with.

I'm doing pretty good. Its been a few days since I've puked from gagging. :) Its pretty darned sad when a few puke free days is considered an accomplishment. My Mom is coming this weekend. I'm not sure if we'll do any shopping/browsing for baby gear. I'm not planning to buy anything right now and she's not to eager to shop til we know the gender. So we just might skip that.

I'm at 15 1/2 wks now, which means 16w is just around the corner. Holy cow! time is sure flying by now! Although it feels like forever til I have another doctor's appt and get to hear the heartbeat again. I don't get an u/s til 2 weeks after that.

This morning my postion at work got shifted a bit. I've sort of been in limbo since the start of summer when my official boss (who was also the department head) left for a year for a temporary position - but he's probably not coming back b/c he's trying to move up and out. So I was temporarily assigned to another boss but he's never had enough to keep me busy. So now I'm getting officially reassigned to someone else but will continue to do a little work for my temporary boss as well. This is all good news b/c hopefully I will finally have more to do. As much as I love CC I go a little nutty when I have no work to do at all. I did mention to the current dept head that I hope to reduce my schedule when I come back. He wasn't really ready to talk about that yet but this way it won't be a surprise to him. I really don't think it will be a problem. If it is, then we'll just have to figure out a way to deal with it.

I really need to get off my butt and call some daycares. I have the office to myself this week so I need to bring in the phonebook and make some phone calls. I meant to do that today and forgot the phonebook. I keep putting it off b/c I don't want to use daycare, I want to be a SAHM. Its just not possible right now. I console myself with the hope that we will move to NC (where I have family, and its a lower cost of living) before we have #2 and at that point I'll be able to stay home for awhile. In the long run thats probably best for me since I won't be out of the work force for as long - I'm a lab tech at a research lab.

I went in for an ultrasound yesterday because the nurse at my OB's office was concerned I might be having contractions/dilating. I've been having some back pain and crampiness.

Anyway, my cervix was fine, baby looked great, and the tech thought she could tell that...

It's a BOY!

He was so adorable, sucking his little thumb and waving. It was really wild to see how big he is already, too.

We were going to try to wait and be surprised at the birth, but we caved... We're so excited! I'm thrilled to think about having two sweet little boys. I'll have another u/s at around 20 weeks and we'll confirm then, but I really feel she was right, and am pretty certain I saw what she saw.

His name is Elliott Nathan. :D

awifeandmomma OMG -- CONGRATULATIONS on your little boy!!!! I'm so beyond excited to see that we're already finding out!!!

Congratulations and welcome to LuckyDuck! This is a great group -- so much support and information!

Speaking of which: thanks so much for all the advice on breastfeeding: I'll certainly give it a (very serious) try, so I'll get that book you guys have mentioned. At my last appointment the nurse recommended a breastfeeding class, so I'll definitely sign up for that as well.

I'm rapidly growing out of my clothes. It's amazing, but since Friday all my work pants are officially too tight. I look like a stuffed sausage these days :o. Think women in my department are getting a little suspicious... Oh well, we've decided to spill the beans after the appointment on Monday, so it won't be long.

OK, it's back to work for me.... Friday cannot come soon enough!

Welcome luckyduck! Glad you are joining us. :)

jrsygirl - Hope you had a safe flight and felt better. :)

Kimmie - Oh... I'm so jealous even it is for work. Kauai is wonderful. Enjoy your time there.

briamcd - My mom rarely gives advice either. I know how frustrating it can be.

mel7dog - Cute belly shot! I have those same ON jeans.

akwifeandmomma - Congrats on your SON!! I'm glad you are doing well and are not dilating.

Last hurrah - We may be heading to the DC area in January for the weekend. I'm sure it will be cold but we will have a free place to stay and hopefully be able to fly cheaply on standby. Other than that we don't plan on going anywhere since I am going to be a SAHM and we need to save all the money we can.

Drinks - It's still water and milk for me.

BF - I'm really sort of conflicted about this. Two years ago this February I had a breast reduction and I may have problems with BF. I know I will try and I am planning on finding a IBCLC. I am more worried that I will try and fail and then feel guilty or beat myself up about it. Anyways... there is no way to know how it will go until I try right?

Well the majority of my ON order did not fit. The weekend after I placed my order I actually went into the ON store and bought several things. It turns out I am in between sizes. Half of the time I can wear medium and the other half I need large. I had ordered everything in large and only two things fit me well and two things are questionable. I am keeping the swimsuit and a tank and thinking about two t-shirts. Have any of you had any trouble with ON billing you? They have still not charged me and I placed my order on 9/30. Initially they put a hold on my account but then they never charged me. I'm wondering if they just take awhile to do this or what...

DH's 10 year HS reunion is this weekend. I still need to find a dress since the one I ordered is way too big. I'm going to check out Gap and Ann Taylor Loft for sale items since maternity dresses aren't working for me yet.

oh yeah, last hurrah - none for us. We need to put our money towards buying a family car instead.

I did my homework, I was prepared, my daughter came out and latched on perfectly right away. What I was unprepared for was that my milk NEVER CAME IN. I never got engorged...nothing. uskiku - Wow, you are good a keeping a secret not telling people at work yet!

Kopper - DC sounds like a fun last hurrah trip. We are trying to save for me to be a SAHM for about 5 months, but decided we needed this Vegas trip!

Sorry to hear about your BF worries. I think you have a good attitute to at least try it, you never know until you try.

I have ordered from ON several time and have never had trouble. It stinks begin in between sizes doens't it!

SaphirimalMei - Sorry about your bad BF experience with your last baby. It sounds like you did absolutely everything possible to make it work. Hopefully this time will be different, especilly because you seem so commmitted!

Welcome and Congrats to luckyduck!

relly - Love the names of your babies! Glad to hear you get to hear the heartbeats and have u/s so you can see them often.

jakedog - I'm pretty sure hospitals get the formula for free so they just throw it in the bassinets. I just wish they were more pro-BF. I would have been nice to see an LC more than once and have nurses that could help in the night when the LCs aren't around.

mel - Those are great belly shots. You really do look preggo. I'm still waiting till mine looks more like baby than leftover baby skin.

nycnoodle - Glad to hear all is well. I have a Graco travel system and it is not light. The stroller weighs a ton and is not something you can carry with one hand, unless your Superman. I've heard that some of the Graco strollers are more lightweight, but if you're going to be carrying your stroller up 3 flights of stairs, I'd check out Jane's recommendations of Combi and Britax.

Jane - Congrats on getting more work! Hope you can still hang out here during the day. Good luck with the day care. I hear you have to call pretty early for some places to get a spot. Are you going back PT?

awifeandmomma - Congrats on your boy! I'm sure Noah will be thrilled to have a little brother.

Kopper - I've looked for the book on BF after reduction at several bookstores with no luck. I'm going to order it off Amazon. Hopefully it will be of some help. Hopefully both of us will have some success! Have fun shopping at Ann Taylor Loft. I love that store, although I've sworn off buying regular clothes for me until after the baby is here.

My belly button has been stinging the past few days. I looked it up online and read something about the abdomen stretching causing this. It hurt so bad the other night I had to take a Tylenol. Hopefully it will end soon.

Off to watch Dr. Phil.

Jennifer - I hope to go back at a slightly reduced scheduled - 3 or 4 days a week depending on what sort of pay/benefits cut it involves. I NEED to get off my butt about daycare. As much as I don't want to do it, I have to. I have no family nearby than can help if I can't get something lined up in time.

I'm sure I will still have plenty of time for CC even once I have more work to do.

Mel it gets even crazier: we haven't told our families yet... I'm just a paranoid bundle of nerves and insisted on waiting until I'm out of the first trimester. We are not superhuman though ;) : we've told a couple of friends. DH is so much looking forward to telling our families (after the appointment on Monday), so it's been very cute to see him so excited. Poor thing, I had to tell him the other day that we won't be getting ultrasounds at every appointment: he was so crushed that it was even kinda funny...

On BFing, I get wound up trying to speak about it succintly so I won't LOL But I remember being open to it, and realize that it would be hard to decide to do it if I was at all squeamish or uncomfortable with it. Mel: That is a really cute belly shot!

I need something really light that can be used for an infant - I'm thinking a travel system might work best, this way I can carry the baby in the seat and the rest of the stroller in the other hand...
My advice would be to *not not not not* get a travel system if you have to do the walk-up thing. Especially as your baby gets bigger, b/c you'll be trying to carry a 25lb+ carseat+baby in one hand, juggle a diaper bag, groceries, etc... along with a heavy stroller! In Baby Bargains they have a section on strollers for different lifestyles, and had a whole section for those who live in a more urban environment and need light baby accessories. The major complain about travel systems is that they are heavy and bulky--two things you won't want, lol!

I think the Snap n Go stroller frame would work a lot better as a 'travel system' since it is light and easy to use and carry with the carseat. And you may want to look into a few different types of carriers in addition to the Bjorn too (i found it hurt my shoulders/back no matter how i adjusted it, but that slings were more comfortable for me). HTH!

I did my homework, I was prepared, my daughter came out and latched on perfectly right away. What I was unprepared for was that my milk NEVER CAME IN. I never got engorged...nothing. I produced a little, but not nearly enough to keep DD alive. I pumped like a fiend, met with a LC, took supplements, tinctures, teas, reglan...nothing worked. I am so so worried that this will happen again. :(
I'm so sorry this happened to you! This also happened to a few people i know--some of them are still here on CC or on LJ. They have a condition called ????? breasts (gosh, now i can't even remember what it was called--but it means that they lack the glandular tissue to produce breastmilk. But their breasts look like 'torpedos' instead of being rounded and perkier which indicates a lack of the right tissue for breastmilk. I also know a few moms who were preemies themselves who have this issue--they wonder if somehow them being born early affected their breast development later in life.

One of the ladies has to supplment a ton with her first daughter, but with her second has been able to exclusively breastfeed. I don't know what she did different--but i do know that you tend to have a more plentiful milk supply the second time around so maybe that will work in your favor. The other wasn't able to produce much breastmilk at all either time.

Sevilla - I believe you are referring to Tubular Hypoplastic Breasts. I was pointed in that direction as a possibility by the other Marisa on these boards(one of CCs own BF gurus :) ), but when I brought it up to my OB as she was examining my BBs, she said I didnt appear to have that condition. The LC I met with also did not mention that as an issue, so it's still unresolved as to why my milk just didnt come in. My BBs look normal...they just ain't workin' right :p

I haven't given up yet, so we'll see...

Saphirimal, meant to comment earlier. I do have another online friend from my first pg who was never able to nurse her kids either; I do believe she said it was due to undeveloped milk ducts/breast tissue although I never heard a name for it. If your dr says that's not the case, then yay! Fingers crossed that all goes as planned this time for you & baby :)

Sevilla, wow that is a cool site! I was amused by the fact that they said twice I should be noticeably pg now... joke's on them. Oh well. My baby is the size of a tangerine :D

oh, another thing, re: breastfeeding

if you are planning to bf, i definitely recommend going to a LLL meeting in your third trimester. it's a super introduction from both veteran and new moms to breastfeeding. it's really helpful to hear how moms overcame difficulties, too--because many obstacles can be overcome. also, then you can meet the leaders, who are often invaluable should you have questions or concerns in the early (or later) days of breastfeeding.

i'm hardly a bfing guru, but i have been successfully bfing my son for 2.5 years, even with a rough start in the NICU. at the risk of sounding obnoxious, i really do recommend going to a meeting in addition to just reading a book. talking to real moms about the experience to come is very valuable.

awifeandmomma - congrats on your boy, Elliott Nathan!

Well, good news regarding the high blood pressure. First, the nurse took it and it was up from yesterday. Then, the doctor took it and he took a longer time doing it and actually hurt my arm it was so tight. He said it is normal, but at the high end. He will not prescribe medicine and we will just monitor it. He then proceeded to spend a good 15 minutes with me, I was really surprised since I didn't have a scheduled appt., and he was late arriving. He checked my abdomen, listened for the heartbeats - and once again found 1 and barely tried to find the 2nd, he just said it's too difficult with twins. Thank goodness I had heard both at my first u/s. Then he discussed a vaginal birth for twins verse a c-section, looks like a c/s for me. He also prescribed a prenatal vitamin, it appears my body doesn't metabolize folic acid that well and this new vitamin the folate is in its active form. He also told me that I'll have my gestational diabetes test at the 20 week mark. That's a bit earlier than normal, I thought it'd be in January.

As far as the b/p goes, he said there's nothing I can do to control it. I asked if it was caused by diet (I eat a lot of junk), exercise (I do exercise every day), salt (I like my salt), or stress (my new boss is a beeyotch). Nope, none of those things. For me, it's hereditary, I'm just like my Mom. Hopefully, I'll take after her in other ways too, she's a fabulous Mom.

One more thing, my midwife had called last nite and left a message apologizing for rushing through my appt. - how sweet is that!!! Gosh, she had to go to a c-section, no apology necessary.

what sort of things are y'all most interested in hearing about?

Anything. Anything that stands out to you as something that might be helpful for a new Mom to know.

relly - I'm glad the doctor was able to spend some time with you. :)

I gagged after breakfast this morning and lost my breakfast. Oh well, I had a few puke free days in a row.

I took some belly shots this morning. :)

Hi everyone.

I just got back from my trip to houston. While I was there yesterday I had some pretty major bleeding which totally freaked me out. It was a bit of a pain getting home because NJ is getting slammed by torrential rainstorms.

Anyway- we're heading to the Dr. for an ultrasound now so please keep your fingers crossed for us.
Thanks!

Hi - I don't update much, but I am definitely following along with you!

Great belly shots ladies! I'm still in the bloated/chubby stage and can't wait to look pg!

Jrsygirl - I hope everything's OK. Let us know. Good thoughts to you.

I had a dr. appt. this morning, and we heard the heartbeat. Dr. said it sounds like a girl, but I think he was just messing with me :) Anyway, next appt. is Nov. 10.

Hi everyone,

relly--that's great you got to hear the heartbeats again! I'm sure your bp is going to be fine.

Jane--your belly shots look so cute!

Mel--your belly shot is cute as well. I'm waiting until next week when I'm 14 wks so it will be 4 wks since the last pic I took. I'll post both then.

akawifeandmomma--Congrats on finding out its a boy! that is great, I can't wait until we all get our big u/s and find out!:D

Sevilla--I tried the link it was cool. I'm going to check it every week.

jrsygirl--I hope everything is fine. Please keep us updated!

Breastfeeding--Yes, I'm planning/hoping to do this as well. Also, for as long as I can hopefully at least a year. My medical practice gives classes on breastfeeding so I'm going to that class, probably in January since they fill up pretty quickly. I'm also looking into what tin roof rusted said and finding a LLL meeting near my area. I do want to read info as well, but I learn better talking with other moms and learning that way.

Thanks everyone. Just got back from the OBGYN and all is well. the little heartbeats look good and no more bleeding. both sacs look fine.
The dr thinks it may be that the placentas are low and that some blood had built up beind them and was being blocked by a clot that worked its way out.

so here's what happened:

I was so scared..I've had some small amounts of spotting but nothing like this. I left my meeting and was feeling fine. No cramping or soreness.. I literally stood up and could feel the gush of liquid. I ran to the bathroom and there was a ton of bright red blood and a clot about two inches around..I really thought it was one of the sacs and have never been more scared. I managed to clean up a little and get a few pads, found a quiet place to sit, called Brian and freaked him out. He called the Dr ofice because it was after hours and left a message with the answering service.

The Dr called back in like 5 mins and they wanted me to go to the emeregency room in houston..unfortunately my flight home (the last of the day) was in a half hour. I really just wanted to be home and I figured if I had miscarried there was nothing they could do anyway. I made the choice to fly home. It was horrible. with all the weather and turbulence and stress of the situation, not to mention that I had been up since 4am!..Anyway- during the flight the bleeding had stopped to intermittent spotting but I got up every five minutes to check. Luckily I had an aisle seat!
I got home around 2 am, showered, cleaned up and passed out. Overnight the bleeding stopped and now there is just a bit of dried blood.

I am so relieved though that everything is OK!
Thank you again for all your support!

ohmygosh, jrsygirl, I'm so glad everything is okay. How scary. Get some more off-your-feet tonight!

My sister let us know that her little boy due in Nov will be named Tripp, as he will be a Third. My mom can't seem to grasp the name, and so just to annoy her further dh & I have decided to re-name the bean: it is now Chipp. With an intentional extra P just to be that much more taunting. Heehee! My poor mom. If we find out it's a girl, she'll be Chippa until birth ;) Can't let a good joke die out, can we?

Littlestar and relly Yay for heartbeats and great appointments!

Hi ladies! I'm getting closer to joining those of you already in the 2nd trimester. I can't wait! We are just now starting to tell more people.

jerseygirl - I'm so sorry about your scare! I'm glad things are okay though. Take care of yourself!

awifeandmomma - I just love your belly shot! You look fantastic!

I had my nuchal translucency/first trimester genetic screening on Tuesday and it went very well. I got about a 45-minute Level II ultrasound and it was so comforting to see the little babe on the screen. The tech thinks she saw a little boy part, but I think it's entirely too early to tell. She agreed that it's too early to "call it." We shall see.

Anyway, the NT was 1.21 mm and they said they like for it to be under 3 mm, so that is good. The other part of the screening is a blood test and I won't get the results on that (and therefore, the whole screening) until next week.

Here are a couple of pics from the ultrasound:

I like how he's got his legs stretched out in this one...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/spoleto/2006%20Baby/9d3e6f97.jpg

I also have a belly shot for you guys...I think the front on one looks a little more preggo, but I like side shots best for these things. Anyway, here goes!

A week ago, at 10w3d:

I forgot to share about my next appointment. I'm actually having two major Level II ultrasounds because of my history. My first will be at 15 weeks (actually, I'll be 14w5d). However, they won't be able to really do a complete "big ultrasound" until I'm 20 weeks. It's just to try to help calm my fears of having the same horrible thing happen again that they are doing the one at 15w. I'm so thankful.

So, I have another Level II ultrasound on November 3.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm going to attempt shout-outs, and sorry if I miss anyone or these seem really old. I had to go back a ways!

relly, thanks for my first welcome! It's nice to know that you have such a nice doctor and midwife who are concerned about taking time with you. And it sounds like you will be a wonderful mommy since you have such a good mommy as a model!
Kimmiebride and sal03, thank you for the welcome!
briamcd, thanks. I am also going get a flu shot. I just cannot be sick again. I'm still coughing and really bummed about the slow recovery.
mel7dog, cute top! And even cuter belly!
jakedog, thanks for the welcome. Your BF class with your husband sounds really good. I hope I can find something like that for us.
nycnoodle, I can't say I know anything about strollers, but my friend recommended that I get a Maclaren (sp?), because they are light. Apparently, I'm wimpy.
Jane&Andy, thank you for adding me. I also feel like time is going by A LOT faster in the second trimester. I feel so relieved to have made it thus far.
akwifeandmomma, Congrats on having a boy and that name is beautiful. Cute belly shot!
uskiku, Thanks. It is going to be such a relief to tell ppl at work on Monday. The whole week before I told, I was so paranoid that everyone already knew! My assistant had already guessed and asked me!
kopper, thank you. I am on the brink of ordering from ON. I went today to try on stuff and get an idea of my size. Did you find that your size in one thing is not consistent with the same size in another? I think I may also be between sizes. Sucks.
JenniferEC, thanks. Did Tylenol help relieve your belly button pain? My have major sciatic pain on my left and am wondering if Tylenol will help.
Txfish, thanks for the welcome. I LOVE Chipp! My hubby and I always joke about naming the kid Chip or Flip. And Flippa has come up a couple times. I think it's so cute and funny.
Sevilla, I love the imagery of being able to cup the baby in your hand. When I read that, I immediately held out my hand and tried to envision. So cute!
jrsygirl, wow, scary. Glad everything is ok.
sully130, great pictures. Looks like the baby is sucking his/her thumb in the first US pic.

So I went on a major shopping spree today and yesterday. I checked out NOM (Naissance on Melrose, naissancematernity.com) and while everything was very cute, it was pricey. The best thing was that they had 9 month belly cushions to put on under the clothes when you are trying them on. I took a phone pic, but can't figure out how to get it off my phone. At least I was able to show Brian. I was able to get lots of tops at GAP and great cheap camis at ON. I had to clear out a whole section of my closet for the maternity stuff.

I'm excited to have my appointment tomorrow. Do you think you can find out the sex at 14 weeks?

jrsygirl So glad you are okay. What an ordeal you had to go through. May the rest of your pregnancy be completely uneventful after such a scary experience - you deserve it!!!

Jane cute belly! I sent a PM to April 06 moms with some recommendations for baby things

akwifeandmomma great pic! You look so cute with the towel in your hair!!

Txfish LMAO at the Tripp/Chipp thing. That is just the sort of thing I would love to do to my mom. We are not telling anyone names this time after all the annoying opinions we got about Dylan!

NYCnoodle I can not see ever being able to carry a stroller and the snugride up stairs. Your best bet would probably be a snap n go until the baby is out of the snugride then a lightweight maclaran

Sully beautiful u/s pics!!

Lucky One of my friends found out she was having a boy at 13.5 weeks. And the u/s tech at my nuchal test said she thought it was a girl so you never know!

This has just been a LONG week. Between our basement flooding last weekend, then we got more water in the night before last. PLEASE let this rain end in the northeast!! THEN DH found out he is being assigned to a different project (he is a consultant) which will make his commute almost 2 hours each way  He is never going to be able to see Dylan during the week now, really only on weekends. So he is very sad. And I am sad because now that I am pg DH has been giving baths to Dylan because it is so hard to lift him in and out and now I will have to do everything again. Oh and my sciatic had temporarily gone away and it is BACK. I think I have just been doing too much this pregnancy. I really need to try and rest more. Yeah right with a toddler!! thanks for letting me vent :)

Sully I'm glad the Dr.'s are taking good care of you and doing everything possible to ensure a healthy pregnancy :)

uskiku I started getting my energy back this past week. I only took an afternoon nap one day this week instead of 4 so far! Hopefully yours will be back soon.

Lucky From what I've read and heard I think the Dr.'s like to wait till at least 16 weeks to ensure they can tell for sure. I know on a military base they won't let you have one till 20w  Hopefully you can find out sooner!

Sal Sorry about DH new comuting situation. How long will it last for?

Glad to finally hit 13w and be out of the major worry zone!

I am back!!!!!!!! We are in VA for good with most of our belongings.

Sorry I am so far behind but I think I missede quite a few pages and don't have the time to go back and read them right now.

Appointment Update: I found an OBGYN in VA that is about 15 minutes from our house and is affiliated with the hospital. She was recommended through a guy that Jason's knows whose wife is 23 weeks along. I have my first appointment with her on Thursday, October 20th at 3 pm!

Maternity Shopping-I went on a little spree yesterday at the outlets cause I needed something to wear to a ground breaking ceremony. I went to Motherhood Maternity Outlet and bought 2 dresses for our cruise next month and then a pair of shorts and a tank top. As well as some pants for today and a sweater as well. I tried on swimsuits and that was so depressing. I also tried on some long sleeve shirts like t-shirts with long sleeves and they were swimming on me in every way so I just went to Old Navy and bought some large ones there in regular size. I then went home to go online to Old Navy and bought another $100 worth of clothes but this time mainly for the cruise. I bought a bathing suit (which I hope I like) as well as another dress for the cruise (we have 2 formal nights and one dressy night) and I bought some shorts and some more tanks as well. Then I went on Gap online and bought a swimsuit cover up and I forget what else! Yup I spent a lot of money yesterday!

Telling the Parents-Yup we finally did it! We told Jason's parents 2 weeks ago and then my parents this past weekend. They were both shocked and happy! Of course my mother starts lecturing me right away because I have a heart murmur so she yells at me that I better not be going to a midwife and that I have to find an OBGYN right away and that I need to tell them first thing about my heart murmur. The funniest part of telling my family is that my Dad has already picked out names for the baby-so weird! He never does stuff like that! My oldest sister is thrilled since this will be the first time she is an aunt-since the only grandchildren on my side come from her. And my oldest nephew is thrilled as well, the younger one doesn't understand. I haven't told any of my friends yet because I have been so busy with the move and so on but I plan on doing it this weekend unfortunately by phone.

Pregnancy Symptoms-Oh the heartburn and the constant burping are horrible. It is after I eat all the time. It actually makes me not want to eat but I know that is not an option for me at all. My appetite is still there but I can't eat much at all. Other than that I know I am quite lucky with this pregnancy compared to some of the girls here.

Well I have rambled on enough and I really need to get ready for this ceremony thing since I haven't showered yet!

Sorry for no shout outs but I promise I will catch up later!

Good morning. Happy Friday. :)

Great belly shots akwifeandmomma and Sully. :)

Sal - I hope you can get some rest this weekend.

Lucky - most people I know have been told around 18-20wks what the gender is based on u/s. I've heard of people being told its probably a girl/boy earlier than that but its really not until 18-20wks that they can be more confident about the gender. My doctor said I could schedule it for 18wks or later but the u/s place said 20wks.

mel - yay for getting your energy back. It took me a few days to get used to not being so dog tired all of the time but now I feel so much better.

My Mom is coming to visit today. :) We're going to the DC zoo tomorrow. I'm not sure what else we will do this weekend.

jeeplover - Welcome to the DC area and yay for finding a new doctor already. :) I don't know what outlet malls there are by you but Arundel Mills in MD is great - they have a Carter's outlet and an Osh Kosh B'Gosh - I've found some adorable stuff there for my neices and nephews. They have a Motherhood Maternity store too but its pretty small.

Good morning!

Sully,/ great u/s pics and what a cute little belly!! :) Glad everything's going so well.

jeeplover, glad you all are settling in and that you have an OB already. Yay for telling the parents!

Oh Sal, sorry to hear about the dh's work schedule. Hope you can work it out without making yourself miserable -- hey, does he really need a bath every day? Heehee! I have been known to slack a little to save myself when dh isn't there to help with dd. Totally worth it, IMO, unless it means she's going to school with marker on her face or something! (Hugs)

Lucky, Chipp will be thrilled to hear he's got a friend in Flippa LOL I amuse myself so much sometimes. Glad you all like the "name". Unfortunately, I think you'll have to hang in there to find out who is on the way. Even though I've been told they really can tell by at least 16w, I've not heard of anyone being told prior to that.

Clothes shopping: Finally went and did some shopping of my own :) I really needed something for my sis' baby shower, so off I went to the mall. Found one fairly cute dress at Motherhood, and then stopped in at Mimi Maternity. I got a wrap sweater on sale and the brown miracle pants for way more $ than I expected to spend, ever, on maternity. And now I'm already hooked and may have to ask for the blak pair for Christmas. Luckily, Mom was buying on that round! Got a new pair of shoes, too, to go with my new brown pants. God, how I love new shoes!

And, did you know how hard it is to find a sterling silver frame anywhere?? Gah!

Good morning! I'm in the middle of my mid-morning snack but I had a really light breakfast, so I'll be hungry again in a hour. Trying to convince myself to eat this banana.

Sal - Bummer about your basement and DH's commute. I also have this sciatic pain and find that laying down helps. Walking seems to aggravate it.

Mel - yay on 13 weeks!

jeeplover - That is so cute about your dad. Are you considering his name choices?

Jane - Yay for mom visits. I love when my mom comes over and we get to spend time together.

Txfish - Great clothes, and I love the pants. I'm having a hard time finding stuff that doesn't look frumpy. Those look really sleek.

MMH - Nice progression shots!

Gender: I knew we would probably have to wait till next month to find out the gender, but I was thinking that there might be a slight chance to see something today.

Sal03 - I feel for you! My DH gives Caden baths because I can barely get him in and out of the tub. He's out of town all next week and that's what I'm dreading most. I hope this new assignment doesn't last too long.

Txfish - Pretty clothes! I got a postcard in the mail today from Old Navy, but it's only an extra 20% off if you open an ON credit card. No thanks!

jrsygirl - Glad everything is okay. I don't think I could have handled it as well as you did.

jeeplover - Tums are part of my daily diet.

Jane - Have fun with your mom.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. :) I had a nice visit with my Mom. We went to Babies R Us yesterday and had fun looking around. I bought a stuffed lamb for the nursery and two cute bibs. One is a xmas one that I just couldn't resist. :)

Now that my Mom is gone I'm going to start shifting all the baby gear from my sisters down to the guest room (b/c it won't be used again for a long while) so I can then start clearing out my stuff and Andy's stuff from the nursery (its been sort of an overflow/junk room). Once its cleared out I can paint it. :)

Morning ladies :)

My little niecey is so precious -- her little thighs are just teeny, like as big around as my thumb & forefinger make. DD was great with her, too -- held her on the couch and held her head up and helped feed her. SO sweet.

We got our azaleas this weekend :) I am so jazzed. Finally rid of the last of the hideous berry-producing shrubs. We got the Encore Azaleas that bloom 3 times a year.. very cool. I also got my fall pansy blend planted, and bought all the bricks to re-do our landscape border. I'm a hopeless yard freak 2 or 3 times a year LOL My poor budget.

I think it's so funny that everyone is starting in on y'all about names already! I got it from my mom last week, too -- just hammering me about what a nice name Lauren is, and we really should think about it, and on and on. Gah. It happens to be at the top of our girl name list, but I'm starting to shy away from it just because I'm coming across so many Laurens lately. Mom just brings out the defiant child in me! I can't be the only one...

Jane, I love buying little bibs and socks. What is it with the socks?? ;)

MMinH-- fantastic belly shots! I love your little tummy!

Hope everyone else had a good weekend...

Wow, it sure is quiet in here today!

I'm doing ok but am still extremely nauseous and gaggy. Anyone else still feeling crappy? On top of that I had some more bleeding on Friday night. I layed down and basically spent my weekend on the couch. It's really not fair that if I'm going to have the nausea I shouldn't have to deal with the bleeding right?

I have my regularly scheduled OBGYN tomorrow afternoon. I need to remember to ask him about the flu shot. DH isn't coming to this one because he's been taking off work so much lately for Dr appts I figured its not like we haven't had an US or anything before right? At this point we've actually been having them weekly when you combine the emergency visits with the, obgyn and the perinatologist.

Thursday afternoon we have an appt with the high risk obgyn.

We haven't bought anything yet although we've been doing some browsing online. With all the problems I've been having I feel like if I buy anything I might jinx myself. Crazy I know.

jakedog I am so glad you said that! I thought mine was gas too but I know what movement feels like and I definitely have been feeling it the past few days. At first it was flutters but today I felt tiny little taps. Dh thought I was making it up since it was so early, so I will be happy to tell him you are feeling so much movement already too. Yes, I do talk about my fellow summer 2004 moms like I know you IRL!! :D

I love buying little bibs and socks. What is it with the socks??

I haven't bought any socks yet. My sister keeps telling me that Babystyle makes the best socks though (stay on the feet better).

jrsygirl and jakedog - I'm sorry you are still feeling crappy. :(

Jane-Yeah for the little lambs you bought. Baby style also has the cutest lamb accessories. I registered there only for the lulu collection.

jrsygirl- sorry you ares still feeling crappy. I'm glad you took it easy this weekend. Hopefully everything is fine and you're worrying for nothing!

Jakedog and Sal Wowy! I'm excited for you both. To think I could feel my little baby move in only a few weeks is so exciting!!

I'm been feeling good, just a little tired as usual. I've been pretty good keeping up with workouts and eating healthy (so far anyhow!) Oh yes and I have finally gained weight, 1 lb :o

DH and I booked our last hoorah trip for the first full week in Nov, now I need some more cute "going out" pg clothes!

I spent an entire day this weekend reading about baby gear and updating our registires. I have also been ready a TON on natural births and breastfeeding. At first the labor thing overwhelmed me, but now that I know a little of what to expect, I feel better already!

I wanna add my name to the feeling crappy club.

I thought my m/s was going to go away at 13wks. lol. Mine has definitely gotten worse. :(
On the upside, I have more energy. But doing anything but sleeping or laying down makes me wanna run to the bathroom, so the energy is just getting wasted.

I know, I love it! It is a little pricey though  I'm hoping to get a few things as gifts, but I doubt I'll buy much myself when there is so much else we need!
