Wow, I have so much to catch up on. DH and I have been on vacation since right before Christmas and go back to work on Tuesday. We've been busy! Our nursery is nearly done. We finished putting in the new six-panel bedroom door and framing and finished putting up the new baseboards. Our furniture came in early in the week and DH put the crib together on Thursday. Everything is coming along. My parents bought us our travel system (Graco Quattro Tour in Mocha) for Christmas and my sister gave me the copper Kecci diaper bag I wanted. I will have to post pictures of everything once DH can get them off the camera.
My doctor appointment went well for the most part on Thursday. I've been having some acid reflux so she wants me to start taking Pepcid twice a day. I'm measuring quite a bit ahead so she wants to recheck me in two weeks. If I am still growing at such a fast pace she will do an u/s to check everything out. Oh I had my Rhogam shot and will start going every two weeks now until 36 weeks and then I will go every week. Tuesday starts the 3rd trimester for me! :)
Appointments: Jan 12th (regular) and Jan 24th 3D/4D U/S

LittleStar - Wow, the nursery looks great! The paint is so clean and crisp and I love the crib. Can't wait to see how you decorate!
Not much going on with me. Growing a bunch and having more back pain then ever :( Besides that we are preparing for baby! We ordered our nursery furniture (Baby's Dream Infinity in Cherry) last week. This weekend we ordered:
-Sony Baby Call Nursery Monitor
-Nature's Touch Baby Papasan Cradle Swing
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0001IU5HY.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
-New Pump In Style Original Breast Pump
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00065H55W.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
We got a great deal on the BreastPump from the military exchange. Only $170 (retials for $249 at BRU) with no tax :)
Looking forward to getting back in the groove of eating healthy and working out lots. The last few holiday weeks, I've been bad and I feel lazy

I'm bored since DH is working on flooring the attic so we can put stuff up there since we had a ton of stuff stored in the nursery.
LittleStar - Wow, your nursery looks great! Your crib is beautiful :)
mel7dog - Congrats on ordering your furniture. Hopefully yours will come in super fast like ours did (23 days). That's such a great price for your pump! I'm sorry about the back pain and hope it eases up for you. I've been having more this week too b/c I've been on my feet a lot more than normal since I haven't been working.
Nursery pics: Sorry some of them are blurry. We still have to paint the stars on the wall and figure out what else we want to do but the hard stuff is done!

Hi girls -- Happy New Year!
We have yet to finish emptying out what will be the nursery LOL so we're a little behind here!! Everyone's progress sounds terrific... especially exciting to order all the furniture :)
We are still working on finalizing some choices for baby, as far as wall colors and strollers and oh, about everything else we need to replace. But first, we've got to decide what to do for our new dishwasher. Nothing like trying to be freak out about spending another $700 when you're doing baby prep, right?
I am *tired* and not loking forward to work tomorrow.. I've been so drained even with all the days off the last couple of weeks, I am terrified about the remainder ofthe pregnancy with no other days off. Sigh. **Hoping hoping that DH's next promotion goes through WITH raise, and I can just leave permanently when baby comes!!**
Must go nap ;)

great nurseries Kopper and LittleStar! :)
we ordered a dresser today for the nursery - it will be delivered Saturday. I've picked out my crib and dresser but (at least as far as I know) MIL is buying the crib. But she hasn't said anything to us about it in months so I have no idea if she is still planning to buy it or if she is - then when. I really don't want it to wait til the last minute. I'm way too much of an obsessive planner to deal with that. My SIL said she'd talk to her about it - hate to use a middleman but its rather awkward to say, "Hey, MIL about that gift...?"
It doesn't help that about once a week my Mom freaks me out and says that I have to order it NOW. Then I remind her that I can't order it if MIL is buying it. Not sure how she manages to forget that EVERY week.
I painted clouds on the ceiling yesterday:

Back at work again, walked into my boss on a tirade about getting work finished and getting all these projects done before we start going out on leave. Or, she could say Good morning! Happy New Year! :rolleyes:

Back at work too. This day is dragging! At least I am filling time by finalizing shower invite lists and sending out long overdue emails.
Txfish - Sorry about the dishwasher! We have a few big ticket things to take care of as well. I'm sorta glad they are happening now though rather then after the baby. Good luck to your DH and I will have my fingers crossed for you. DH has been buying a lottery ticket every week in hopes of winning and being able to quit. Not sure it will work but we will never win if we don't try.
Jane&Andy - Great belly shot and your nursery looks great too! I love the clouds. Do you want to come to my house and paint for me? I just bought a whole bunch of different star stencils to practice with and try out. I don't think I could free hand them very well. Great job! Yay for ordering the dresser. I hope you can order your crib soon.

Thanks Jane! I'm pretty lucky that my sister is an art teacher and my mom is good at replicating any design. They are probably going to help me out sometime next month. The guy textured and painted our living, family and dining rooms is an excellent muralist. I would love that have him paint my nursery but just can't see spending that much money on it. Were you nervous at all painting the clouds? I am just so worried that I will try something and it will look terrible. I guess that's what touch ups are for right? Now I just have to get the courage up.
---
We finally decided on a chair/glider. It's the Shermag Grand at BRU. The cushion is a little different than the one online and we are ordering it in a green color (Harrison Basil). Originally we wanted to get a chair instead of a glider but this one won us over.

Sorry to hear the day is dragging for you girls back at work!
I am still recovering from my cold and actually woke up this morning feeling worse of course that could be due to the fact that I couldn't sleep last night!
The baby is kicking so much now! Not just the light little kicks but LET ME OUT OF HERE kicks-sorry kid a couple of more months!
We finally did our registry this weekend at BRU! Our toughest decisions were the bedding and the pack-n-play. We still haven't decided on a crib and a changing table/dresser yet hopefully next weekend!
Tomorrow I have the fetal echo with the high risk OB/GYN. Hopefully they will be able to tell me if my poor little guy has inherited mommy's fun heart problems or if he lucked out and got a great little ticker with no issues! Let's pray for the latter!
Well my little sister is on her way so I need to shower and be brought back among the living!

Hope everyone had a nice New Years! Now that the holidays are over DH and I really need to get ready for this baby. We have bought nothing and have yet to decide on baby furniture. Our little girl will definately be well dressed! She scored over the holidays! I do need to get our registry set up since my mom is planning my first shower for February 11th!

Kopper - that's great that you'll have the help with the nursery. I was nervous painting the clouds but figured if they didn't turn out well I'd hopefully stop after a few and then painting over them wouldn't be too big of a job. I was following instructions my sister gave me and mine didn't turn out like hers. So I was disappointed out first but they have grown on me more since I finished them. I can't wait to get the rest of the room set up so I can see it all together.
great belly shot MMH. :)

All is OK in my world. I am getting so huge. I can barely put my socks on these days let alone tie my shoes. Thank god for slip ons!

Today I am back at work after being off for over two weeks. I'm exhausted and definitely ready to go home, take a warm bath, Let B rub my back and sleep. My Dr appt last week went well. The babies are looking great and the Dr says I'm looking way better than he expected and my cervixx is still longer than most singleton pregnancies at this point so the Dr is happy about that.
I'm still getting my weekly progesterone shots to ward off preterm labor. Who knows if they are helping or if someone just decided I deserve a boring pregnancy from here on out. My sugar levels were high last week requiring me to go get a gesttaional diabetes test and yet another blood test. I'm waiting for the results now.. hopefully it was just that my appt was early and I had some sugar before hand in my coffee.
The babies are both moving a ton and Brian can feel and see them which has been awesome to share. Our little girl is definitely the more active and even the Dr. called her a "Diva" beause she is always posing on the Ultrasounds (a sure sign that we get way too many ultrasounds when the Dr recognizes repeat behavior!)
QOTDwe haven't dceided on a highchair (or two) yet. I figure we have some time on that and since we need two of everythng its not high on the priority for the registry yet.

Welcome back from the holidays everyone!
Awesome belly shots MMH & Jrseygrl!
QOTD: We're planning to get the $20 IKEA high chair when the time comes. We have a very tiny house, so until baby is in solids the 'high chair place' will be the 'swing place'. I like that it's just one piece of solid plastic--easy to keep clean, and neutral in appearance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hospital tour: I did my first hospital tour today (i have two hospitals to choose from). Overall i was pretty happy with it. They encourage 24/7 rooming in with baby and have awesome breastfeeding support (90% of their new moms leave the hospital bf'ing which is wayyyy higher than the national average). But unfortunately they won't let you labor in the shower once your water has broken which bugs me. Hopefully the other hospital i'll visit next week will be more flexible in this regard.
Has anyone else done a hospital tour yet?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Birthing Classes: We had our first Bradley class last night and it was SO good! I really love our instructor, she was very balanced and realistic about birth and super nice. There's just one other couple in our class, and they're about our age and interestingly the wife is a teacher like me and the husband is a computer tech like DH, and both our moms did natural child birth and are going to act as our doulas. I learned some really helpful stretches and exercises to do during the next few months to help get my body ready for birth and get the baby in a good position. Mel7dog: did you start your classes yet?
Has anyone else signed up for/started birthing classes yet? What kind are you taking?

Sevilla - We actually finished our classes last month. 7 classes in 3 weeks! The one we took was a general class offered free through the military base. It was very informative and gave me a good base on info! I WISH we could do Bradley, but we're moving right in the middle of the classes and DH is away during the week :( I am planning on reading all the Bradley books though.

Birthing classes: Haven't had any or enrolled in any. I have a number for a lady I'm supposed to call. I forgot about calling her, and now everytime I call her she's not in. :( She's supposed to be in Thursday, so hopefully it's not too late to get into a class. We're just going to take a general class.
QOTD: I've been waking up in the middle of the night choking. I think i'm throwing up in my sleep b/c i'm laying flat on my side and the baby is so high I feel like my stomach is being pushed up to my bbs. I know some of you are having heartburn b/c of baby's position, but anybody waking up choking or wanting to throw up just b/c there's no room for what's in your stomach?

Classes: I was *just* coming in to here to say that I registered! LOL We're doing a long, one-day childbirth basics class in Feb. I may do the quickie breastfeeding class, too -- it's just been so long! We also get a hospital tour with our childbirth class.
I was thinking of taking DD for the sibling class, but I honestly think she won't need it or get much from it -- I have a feeling it's going to be geared more toward a little older kids.
And you all made me realize that I need to figure out my shower guest list pronto... watch, they'll want to do it on 2/11 also, when our class is!
Highchair: not getting one right now -- we still have the old Graco one, which is in decent shape. If we get just tons of extra stuff/ BRU credit, we'll go get a smaller one, probably a healthy care (just love being able to put the tray in the dishwasher.)
Great belly pics everyone!! Guess I should take one, one of these days... I'm so horrible at documentation. Of course, most people still don't know I'm pg, and I'm still wearing my normal jeans. It's totally bizarre. But I'm not complaining ;)
Kopper, LOL we play the wishful-thinking lottery too... whenever we get bored in the car, we start working out our lottery plan -- it's so sad. It would sure be nice, though. Then I'd go buy the dishwasher I *really* want :D (oh, and pay off the house and buy a new car and stock the kids' college funds. But mostly the dishwasher.)

QOTD's
Classes: I'm trying to sign up for Hypnobirthing if I can ever get through to the instructors! Also will do the babycare and breasfeeding at the hospital.
High Chair: Like the looks/flat fold of the Chicco Polly (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-1/qid=1136389781/ref=sr_2_1/602-6111212-6474224?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B0007OD91G), but may just get a booster seat thing that straps to a dining room chair. (Fisher price one, maybe?)
Things overall are going well with me -- now that I'm the proud owner of a Snoogle Pillow, nights are heaven for me! I can't wait to go to bed! I've been feeling restless lately - when I'm home, want to go to work, and when I'm at work, want to go home! I think part of my anxiety is a) trying to find nursery furniture that meets our tastes and budgets and b) thinking about going to Mexico in 3 weeks!
Otherwise, other than occasional sciatic nerve pain and an annoying (and oho so beautiful) vericose vein on the top of my right calf, I can't complain. The lovely compression stockings (thigh high -- i can't stand the pantyhose!) are in route, so hopefully they'll help my leg.
Any other VV sufferrers out there?

Highchair QOTD: We registered for the Eddie Bauer Natural Wood High Chair
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009ETFMG.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Birthing Classes: We registered for ours last week and will begin classes on the 23rd of this month. I am glad to see that I am not taking them too early!
Guest List: I am not sure what to do about this. No one in my family has mentioned a baby shower. Now I don't necessarily want one but if they want to throw me one I would prefer that my sisters (4 of them) not throw it since my wedding shower was such a nightmare and I got so much grief for it. Do you think I should ask my BF to throw it or just suck it up and not think about it?
Update: Had my fetal echo this morning and except for the fact that I almost passed out from being lightheaded it went well. The tech said that his heart is looking good and there are no concerns. The OB says it looks good, all four chambers are great and the valves look good and there are no visible defects. He did mention that this is not 100% percent which I totally understand but that he is happy with how the baby looks and happy with how I am doing as well. I will go back again in 2 weeks.

Hi all! Glad to see everyone is doing well. The recent belly shots look fantastic!
jeeplover - So glad to hear the baby passed the initial test! That's definitely a great sign. I hope all of your future visits show the same thing.
Birthing classes - Obviously since I'm on bedrest until delivery I'm guessing classes are not in my future. For those of you who have already had children, do you think I'm going to be at a great loss for not having the classes? Or are any of you NOT planning on taking any classes? I did give birth naturally to my stillborn daughter, but it was at 23 weeks and I'm sure that childbirth will be completely different with this child since I know he'll be bigger than that.
I just don't want to be an idiot during labor, you know? :)
Update on me... - I was supposed to have an appt. yesterday but once I got there they cancelled on me b/c my dr. had to rush to an emergency c-section. I was pretty bummed, but will go again today. I guess it's a good thing that it's no longer urgent that I been seen at a set time. I think I'm doing well...growing and the baby is kicking lots. I've got no complaints!
Baby shower - My best friend has mentioned that she'd like to throw one for me. My coworkers had planned on throwing one for me. And I think some other family friends were/are planning on one also. I'm not sure if they are all planning to wait until after the birth or what. I guess we just have to wait and see how things go. I told my friend that I think it would be okay if I attend one after I'm 34 weeks or so and just stay seated the entire time --preferably in a recliner. So we'll just see. I hope I do have one before the birth...I'm sure it would be fun. Though I guess I'll have to do all my registering online! Yikes.

jeeplover, fantastic news on the echo!! On the shower thing, that's really hard. I think I'd talk to my bf about it, and say maybe that while I'd love it if they threw me a shower, I was terrified of it being a big mess like last time... maybe she'll offer to talk to them and be involved in the planning? I hope that works out for you; I'd hate for you to not get a shower!
Sully, glad to hear you're still doing well. I didn't take any childbirth class at all before DD was born, just did a lot of reading & chat boards so I was as aware as possible. I think you'll be fine if you just take some time -- probably one of the most educational things I did was working through a proposed birth plan, and researching all the options that were listed. That old me a lot about what types of hospital procedures were common, etc. I found this one, and it's what I'm using this time:

I had a doctor's appointment this morning. Everything is measuring good but I was bummed with my weight gain... 6 lbs this month! :eek: The holidays definately did not help. Luckily I am still on track (11 lbs according to the doctor... 14 lbs according to my scale). I have to schedule my 1 hr glucose test (which I think I will do on January 23rd). The doctor also told me that I should be feeling the baby move daily. I should do a 1 hour test every night and be able to feel 10 movements in that hour. If I don't feel 10 movements the baby is not moving enough. Something for me to stress about nightly!
Birthing Classes - I also got the schedule for Childbirth Classes. It looks like they will be March 6 - April 5th, every Monday night. I am also signing up for the Breastfeeding Class.
Showers - It looks like I will have 3 showers. My mom is hosting one in Phoenix on Feb 11th. My MIL would like to host one and my aunt is hosting one.
My next appt. is Feb 3rd.

shower: no shower, but I will have a girly day with pals including Afternoon Tea (http://www.boulderteahouse.com/) and a Queen for a Day spa package (http://www.premierspacollection.com/spas/services.php?spa=essentiels&boolGiftCardMenu=1). So I am way psyched.
highchair: we have an Evenflo highchair that works great for us. It wasnt too pricy, but it isn't cheapy.
classes: no classes this time for me.
In answer to Sully's question, I thought having the childbirth class was nice and semi-helpful, but it was mostly helpful for DH as I had been doing a lot of reading all along, but he had been kind of distant from the whole pregnancy and labor preparation. It was especially nice for him to be there because the instructor was really good at urging the hubbys to be a real birth partner and give massages & support. Other repeat mommies may either back me up or debate me, but IMO, childbirth is something you an "prepare" for all you like, but you'll still be at least a little bit unprepared. Don't get me wrong, in no way am I advocating going into childbirth with no knowledge whatsoever as being wholly in the dark would do you a real disservice, only that it's hard to fully imagine how your body will go through the process since every person is different. So, although I dont feel the class was a waste of time, I definitely believe I could have done without the class itself since I kept myself very informed in other ways. Through all the reading I had done I felt very knowledgeable and informed and thus very confident that my body would be able to handle whatever labor through at me. To me, THAT kind of preparedness helped more than the class. Kinda long-winded, but I hope that helped ;)

Baby moving - Yikes MMH, I'm further along than you and I don't think I feel the baby 10 times in 1 hour. I do feel movements daily, but most are usually in the morning. DH still hasn't been able to "catch" a kick, hopefully soon!
High chair - We'll register for one. I was just reading the Baby Bargains section on this, but can't remember the name of the ones that are recommended. Will go w/ one of those :o
Birthing classes - I'm not completely sure I'll take one. Our hospital offers a "crash course" (8 hours in 1 day) which we'll take if any. The thing is, most of my upcoming Saturday mornings are taken up by a junior league (volunteer) commitment, so not a lot of free time.
Showers - My friends at work are throwing me a "work" one, a good friend wants to throw another, and my IL's church will probably throw one. I think I will ask my mom and MIL to co-host the one with my friend so that she isn't doing all the work herself. I wasn't sure about family members hosting, but it sounds like that's pretty common? Also, I think I might have that one at my own house (that's OK right?).
So glad to hear y'all are doing well. Nursery pics and belly shots look great!

One of my New Year resolutions is to be better about keeping up with this thread... Long time, no posts! We're finally back at home and let me just say that I'm so very glad to be done with traveling for a (little) while. Traveling with backpain is no fun... We also made our first trip to Babies 'R Us (I did all the registrering on-line and with the help of all of you and other people on these boards it was quite manageable -- thank you so much for your help!!! :) ): it was quite funny, as DH fled after the first 45 minutes... On the whole we were very very satisfied with our choices! I bought some newborn size onesies for the baby (we got lots of clothes at the shower, but most were 0-3M and look way too big for a newborn baby), the contour changing pad and oh, our first value box of Pampers Swaddlers (had a $5 off coupon for that, so I figured I'd start stocking up). Got home and got a bit nervous: somehow it felt a bit tooooo real, buying diapers like that, guess I still feel like an imposter, despite my ginormous belly!
Anyway, trying to catch up:
Sal03 Thanks so much for the yoga video recommendation! Sadly, once the semester starts, I won't have any time for that either... I'll try to be better about taking breaks from sitting behind the desk and gallop (read: waddle as gracefully as possible) around the corridors from time to time, and to continue with my aerobics classes as long as possible. Hopefully we'll be OK...!
Sully So good to hear that everything is looking great -- you rock, momma!:) And the showers will be fun! Registering on-line is pretty easy and these boards helped me a LOT. You'll be fine!
Bri LOL about baby getting her own MP3 player -- that totally cracked me up! Your choking incident sounds scary though... Have you mentioned it to your doctor? I definitely feel very uncomfortable when bending over -- can I just say that shoe laces are not my best friends these days... -- but I haven't been choking like that...
KB57 I'm sorry you have to take the 3-hour test...
Jennifer Congrats on passing your 3-hour test!
Jane Beautiful furniture (still drooling over your crib!); sorry about the crib situation... If you remember, I was in a similar situation, but luckily DH's grandmother just gave us a check. But I still haven't figured out which crib to get! Love the clouds, by the way, and you're one glowing momma -- such a cute belly shot!
Little Star Oh my, what a gorgeous nursery -- love the stripes!
Mel great deal on the breast pump! Congrats on ordering the furniture!
Kopper the nursery looks great, your belly shot is lovely and what a gorgeous diaper bag! By the way, we also looked at Shermag gliders, especially one (forgot the specifics) that was slightly bigger so that I could rest my head. Gliders are my new obession!
MMH Great belly shot -- wow, you've grown!
jrsygirl you look fantastic! Sorry about the 3-hour test...
Sevilla I really like the high chair (and you cannot beat that price! ;) )
cagey no VV here... yet...
jeeplover SO happy to read about the great echo results!! :) Sorry about the tricky shower situation... Maybe mention something to your friend...?
SaphirimalMei girly spa day sounds heavenly, just heavenly -- am officially jealous!
QOTD 1 high chair leaning heavily toward a booster seat
QOTD 2 pediatrician made a couple of calls this week and just my luck -- the ped that came very highly recommended to us, is leaving the practice... Booo... back on square one...
QOTD 3 childbirth classes Am thinking of doing the ones offered by the hospital. But not sure yet... Unfortunately Bradley would be too expensive and given DH hectic schedul also un-doable. Have been reading The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth that DH gave me for X-mas :) and am thinking of reading a couple of other books -- I feel like I need bettre descriptions of stages of labor and stuff like that.
Definitely will sign up for breastfeeding classes, infant CPR and get a hospital tour.

uskiku - I'm glad the crib situation worked out for you. DH called his Mom last night to ask about the crib and left a message. She doesn't return calls and often doesn't answer the phone so this could take a few tries. :p

Briamcd that happened to me all the time when I was pg with Dylan. i am just waiting for it to start now. I would wake up gasping for air and scare the crap out of poor DH.
Classes none for us this time. I took a BFing class, childbirth education and newborn basics with Dylan.
Sully I honestly did not enjoy the childbirth education class. I took it so late in my pregnancy that I wanted to just go home after work - not to a class! I did SO much reading on pregnancy, childbirth and BFing when I was pg with Dylan that I do not feel I learned anything new in the class. Like others have said, I think DH got more out of them (especially newborn basics) than I did. Not sure what your hospital offers but ours had a BFing class and also newborn basics that you could go to with baby and if he wanted (not the BFing) DH after giving birth during my hospital stay. Not sure if you were interested in others besides childbirth classes but that may be something to look into
Highchair We have a FP Healthy Care and LOVE it. three trays that you can throw right in the dishwasher and toys that attach. We also have the FP booster and love that too
Nurseries the pics that have been posted are adorable! we REALLY need to get moving. all we have done is order our dresser! I think I found a crib at JC Penney though. so we just have to move in the glider and ottoman from Dylan's room and pick out carpet and paint. ummmm, NEED to get started!
I have my glucose test next saturday morning. other than that, baby moves ALL THE TIME and heartburn and back and just as bad as always and getting more uncomfortable to sleep and getting REALLY hard to carry Dylan. it's funny, I am just so excited to meet her. I do not feel nervous at all about having 2 under 2 or going through childbirth again. just excited. or maybe it is denial :p
eta Uskiku we crossposted...even if you just do the yoga video once, I used to lay down in my office when my back was killing to do some of the stretches. they really work!

Jane - Your nursery looks great! You did an awesome job with the clouds. Can't wait to see the final pics. We have a cubby hole thingy in our closet too and it comes in handy! I think ours is from Lowe's or Home Depot and it's full of animals and wipes right now!
jrsygirl - Sorry about the 3 hour. I'll keep my fingers crossed you pass that one!
uskiku - Sorry about the backpain. LOL about your DH fleeing BRU. My DH loved registering because he got control of the gun to scan everything!
Sal - I hear you on carrying a toddler. Caden is killing me when he wants to be carried. He weighed 30 lbs last time he was weighed and he keeps growing! Are you doing anything to prepare Dylan? I'm thinking of getting Caden a doll but don't know if he'd even be interested.
highchair - We have the FP Healthy Care highchair and I love it! I think I put the tray in the dishwasher every night along with the cat toy that comes with it.
classes - We took a childcare class, BF class and childbirth class last time. I'd recommend the childcare and BF class, but I didn't get a lot out of the childbirth class. Other than watching movies and seeing some equipment up close (forceps, epidural needle), it was a waste of money. We took the class with about 10 other couples and I swear it was like being in junior high health class. During the movie, one of the women giving birth didn't have a shirt on and you would have thought these guys had never seen breasts before. They sat there and giggled. Thankfully we're not taking any classes this time.
We're going to start getting Caden's big boy room ready hopefully this month. I'm pretty sure we're going to go with this bedding:

I want him to have time to transition without rushing him.

Hi everyone,
I'm glad everyone enjoyed their holidays. I've been keeping up with everyone's posts just been busy to post, even though I was off of work all last week!:) It was nice having a break and just relaxing and taking naps everyday:D
I do have my regular dr appt this friday. I've also made the appt for my 3D u/s this Saturday! DH and I are looking forward to seeing the baby, hopefully baby will be more cooperative this time and show us for sure that we are having a girl!
We decided that we will just be having 1 big baby shower on Feb. 11th. My mom and my first cousin will be throwing it for me. I'm pretty sure it will be lots of people, so we are having it at a restaurant.
Now for QOTD's
Classes--we were going to take Bradley, but the cost was a bit much so we decided not to take them. We did do a general child care class, and I do plan to do a breastfeeding class in February. I agree with what Saph said, so I'm just reading and doing a lot of research on childbirth and I do plan to do a birthplan as well. I know that I can't be "100% fully" prepared for everything but I do want to be informed.
High chair--haven't picked one out yet. I haven't really looked at any baby furniture at all yet!:eek: Its been hard to when I don't really know "for sure" that we are having a girl, so I tend to plan things all at once, ie registering, looking at furniture, etc. So, after our 3D u/s this Saturday I'm sure I'll get everything picked out.
Pediatrician--I'm going to ask my OB about her recommendation on Friday. I've also started asking my friends that recently have given birth as well.

JenniferEC - cute bedding for Caden.
jrsygirl - good luck with the 3hr test!
GD test - my doctor only calls with results if there is a problem. I had the GD test last Wednesday and haven't heard back. Not sure when exactly I can say I'm in the clear but I figure every day that goes by without a call is a good day.
My Mom just called from BRU. She's buying a bassinet for my shower gift and had a last minute change of heart about which one. I told her before she could pick out whichever one she wanted to but she still wanted to talk to me first. Anyway, this is the one I'm getting:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007PHNJE.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
so whatever happens with the crib, at least Joey will have somewhere to sleep. I don't think BRU online gave the weight limit but I know my SIL's lasts til 20lbs so I assume this one is similar. It will last us while. :)
Jane&Andy
01-04-2006, 12:24 PM
Childbirth class - I'm going into it mostly hoping to learn about hospital procedures and that sort of thing. I'm doing some reading on my own but I know there's just no predicting how it will go for me. So I'm not getting too worked up about having a plan in mind but I certainly could stand to learn a bit more about what could happen first.
JenniferEC
01-04-2006, 12:27 PM
Jane - We have almost the same bassinet just a different print. Is it a Graco? We used ours for about 8 weeks, but we had a crib for after that. We used the vibrating part a lot as well as the bear mobile. Hopefully your MIL will come through. :)
HA! I could have written this. I told my mother/sisters and MIL I would handle my baby shower from the get-go bc apparently there was drama regarding my bridal shower and lack of communication between all parties involved so I was not about to leave it up to them. All my sister and mother did was complain that it was "so much work" to plan my bridal shower. I don't want to hear it again, and I know they can't afford it anyway. Truthfully, I really don't want a baby shower, but I know if I don't take the initiative MIL will step in and host one and I just don't think its fair to her to bear all the expenses of throwing one herself. DH and I went last night and looked at a place that I am going to book for 2/26/05. Obviously we will be paying for it but I know its tacky to actually host your own bridal shower, so I am just going to have everyone RSVP to my mother or MIL.
Jane&Andy

Jennifer - its made by Simplicity.
KB57 - sorry to hear about the shower drama.
My shower is going to be tiny, maybe 10 people, so we're having it at my SIL's house.

Jennifer we did just get dylan a doll. have not given it to him yet. we'll wait until his cold is completely gone. one less thing to be contaminated by all his coughing! :rolleyes: I do not think he will get it, but I figure we'll just keep repeating baby and try and form some kind of meaning/association. he is not around any infants so maybe it will give him some kind of clue. I also just got him an "I'm a Big Brother" book. Again, do not think he will at all get it but I just feel like I should be doing something. I feel like they have to be a little older to understand the concept. did you pick a SBS stroller? we still do not know. only getting the graco tandem for now
JenniferEC
01-04-2006, 01:36 PM
Jane - Ours must be Simplicity too. It's the same even down to the basket, just a different fabric. I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it.
Sal - What kind of doll? I was thinking of going to Target to see what they have. I'm sure Caden won't get it either, but I want him to have a doll that is similar to his baby sister. I also got a couple of books of Amazon, but Caden wants nothing to do with them. He's more interested in books with monkeys, trucks, etc. No SBS stroller yet. The USA Baby near us doesn't have the 06 models in yet. I may try to sling as long as possible so I don't have to worry about one that takes a car seat. Do you have the Graco yet. Just wondering how easy it is to use.

KB57-Thank you for posting that! At least I know I am not the only one who is having issues with this!
To explain more on the shower situation, for my bridal shower my sisters decided that even though I specifically told them that I did not want a surprise one and that DH had better be there they didn't listen. Yes DH was there but they made it a surprise and after all my schedule conflicts they made it for a weekend that I had plans and said please don't do it then! The other thing is that my best friend was my MOH and they didn't really include her at all which hurt her feelings and mine as well. All they did was complain and then my mother yelled at me as though it was all my fault! Of course on the IL side none of my ILs, including MIL and both SILs, did not want to have anything to do with the bridal shower at all. Now they are so gung-ho about a baby shower it makes me mad. I honestly don't want them to throw me a shower because I know it will turn out to be a problem especially since I do have one friend who lives about 2 hours from them that I would like to invite and a cousin or two that I would like to invite.
I am honestly thinking that I might just tell everyone to forgo the the whole baby shower thing so that I don't have to worry about the stress although I have mentioned that to DH and he is against it because he knows how upsetting the whole bridal shower thing was to me.
I know that I can talk to BF about this but don't know if I really want her to have to deal with the burden of planning it.
Well I am sorry for that long and rambling post but I figured I would get it out!

01-04-2006, 01:54 PM
Oh, I had to share this -- I know DD is older than your boys, those of you who are getting dolls for "practice", so I know they won't comprehend quite this well ;) but I thought it was so sweet. Caro came wandering in this morning when I was in the shower, and she said "Mommy, pretend your baby came out!" I played along, and said fine, and she wandered off. When I got out of the shower and went to get her dressed, I found her in her room with her Bitty Baby and her little diaper bag, had her all laid out on the changing pad with her fake diapers and wipes LOL She said, "See mommy? Baby was crying so I got her up and changing her diaper and giving her milk and now I'm putting her in bed and singing her a song and SHHH she's sleeping." I almost cried, it was so sweet, and to be honest she *really* got all the steps down!! Maybe we'll have a little more help with this kiddo than we thought LOL

Happy New Year April Mommies to Be!
Littlestar, Kopper, Jane&Andy – fabulous nurseries ! ! !
Kopper, Jane&Andy, MMH, Jrsygirl - nice belly shots ! ! !
Jeeplover – so glad to hear all is well with your baby’s heart and that you too are doing well.
Jane – I like the dresser and the cubby and the bassinette. Good luck with MIL and the crib.
Txfish – how sweet of Caro, my 5 year old niece got a new bitty baby for Christmas. Just the other day when I was holding my cousin’s 1 week old baby, my niece sat with me and I had her pat the baby’s bum gently, she did it for a long time, she was just so thrilled to help with the baby.
Hospital Tour – we went on a tour the day after Christmas. My cousin, whose baby was due Dec. 12th, had her baby Christmas night. My DH, sister and I went to visit her and when we walked into her room she just started to cry, she was in the room with her SO and the baby, and for some reason she started crying so we told her we’d be in the lounge until she’s ready for some company. It was funny, we had gifts and treats for her, my Mom had made her favorite chocolate candies, so we’re holding out the tin moving closer to her, thinking that’ll make her happy. Anyways, since it was so quiet on the floor, only 3 rooms taken, we saw there were 3 nurses chatting at their station, so I told them I’d be delivering here in April and asked if we could have a little tour. The rooms are huge, are able to accommodate many people comfortably, with a nice table and 4 different chairs, vcr and little fridge, even the bathrooms are huge, they have Jacuzzi tubs. Since I’m having twins I’ll deliver in the OR, which they let us peak at. The entire floor is fabulous, very spacious, nicely decorated, and has a large kitchenette. It was redone just a few years ago, and everything still looks brand new. We then went back to visit my cousin and she was as happy as could be and her brand new little girl is so adorable.
Classes – not yet, must call for dates, I think my hubby is looking forward to them, he asked when we’d be going quite a while ago.
Went for an u/s this afternoon, both babies are growing nicely. Heartbeats are both 140 bpm and weights are 1 lb. 10 oz and 1 lb. 8 oz. My belly has grown quite a bit, 3 weeks ago I was 30 cm, last week 36cm, my midwife said that’s the size of a 36 week singleton pregnant belly.

Sully - Don't worry about registering online. I did 100% of mine online. With Baby Bargains, Amazon reviews, and CC buddies, it was no biggie.
MMH - Don't worry about your weight gain! 11 lbs is not a lot. I am only a week ahead of you and have gained 15 :eek: Not to mention I am only 5'1" and have been working out and eating well. I have finally realized my body is going to gain what it wants!
Shower - I am pretty bummed, but no one has mentioned a shower :( :( Both our parents live 10+ hours away, all my friends are out of state, and I am leaving work in March, so I doubt I'll have one there. I told DH I wanted something, but he says he doesn't think it's possible :(

mel7dog-Oh I hope you get a shower! We could always throw you a virtual shower online in here! I just hope that your DH is pulling your leg and that there is a surprise shower somewhere down the line for you!
Relly-glad to hear that the twins are doing well! Wow you are measuring so far along of course I have no idea how you are supposed to measure when you are carrying twins!
Jane&Andy
01-04-2006, 04:53 PM
jeeplover - we got it at Haverty's. They have a pretty good selection of children's furniture for reasonable prices, I was impressed. I just wish I had thought to look there sooner, would have saved me a lot of worry.
I'm sorry your bridal shower was such a mess. I hope you can have a more enjoyable/stress free baby shower.
Jennifer - glad to hear you've been happy with that bassinet, it had mixed reviews online (although only 4 reviews so thats not much to go on).
mel - I was in a similar situation before my wedding - family far away, moved to a new state, etc and I ended up with 2 bridal showers! I hadn't expected any - they were small but they were still fun. I hope you end up getting one.
my furniture dilemna: I talked to MIL tonight night - DH called and she was eating dinner with SIL so she called back and he was in the shower (after bathing the dog) so I still ended up being the one to discuss it with her. But SIL had already talked to her somewhat about it. SIL is going to place the order for us. MIL will cover the crib and part of the changing table and then she was going to look to some of her relatives to go in on the changing table. I knew this would work out in the end - I'm just an obsessive planner and am far enough along now that I just needed to hear that the wheels were starting to turn. Not sure how quick SIL will place the order but it'll take about 6 wks for the furniture to come in. The sooner the better, of course, but it should be here with time to spare.

Wow this thread has been busy!
Classes: Thanks to everyone who mentioned this. I've hadn't even looked into anything but the Bradley classes until tonight. Luckily you guys reminded me just in time. We signed up for the Monday night classes at our hospital and they start next week. There are six 2.5 hour classes including a breastfeeding class and hospital tour. DH was a little shocked at the price but it is still less than half of the Bradley classes.
Pediatrician: We have a great recommendation from my best friend and my OB also recommends here. The only problem is my OB said she isn't taking new patients. I need to call soon and find out.
---
I have so much more to post but I need to go lay down. I've been having a ton of pain (round ligament/stretching?) and that seems to be the only thing that helps.

Jane glad that the furniture dilemma worked out so well! Phew, what a relief, isn't it!
Sal03 Thanks, I must check out that video -- maybe our local library has it! By the way, I've also been looking at JC Penney's cribs. Which one did you choose? I like the oak-finish sleigh-style one, but am slightly worried whether it'll be sturdy enough. Do you think the ones with wheels will be sturdy and em... stable enough? Wish I could see them in person!
Jennifer Think DH got a bit discouraged when he failed to fold the Peg Perego stroller I'd picked out ;) Love the bedding you picked out for Caden -- very cute!
KB57 and Jeeplover Oh no, sorry about the tricky shower situation! Hope it'll all work out!
Txfish That's the cutest story ever and isn't it great to know that you've got a little expert baby-sitter in hand?! :D
Am still undecided about the crib and now I'm starting to doubt my stroller choice... (posted in Parenting as well -- the extendable handles were not quite long enough for two freakish tall people like me and DH... I mean they were OK, but not great... Other than that, I really liked Pliko 3...). Decisions, decisions...

MMH, jrsygirl - Great belly shots!
Txfish - We do the same thing with the lottery. Two months or so ago DH saw a show about lottery winners on TLC. Since then he has bought 1 ticket a week in hopes of winning. My fingers are crossed for you guys! :D
jrsygirl - Sorry about failing the 1 hr test. Good luck on the 3 hour one.
cagey - No VV here. Knock on wood. Mexico sounds fun, I hope you get to go. :)
KB57 & jeeplover - Sorry about the shower woes.
mel7dog - I hope that someone throws you a shower. :)
Sully - Hope your appointment goes well today and I'm glad you are still hanging in there and growing your baby. :)
LittleStar - I think it's ok for family members to host your shower. My sister is hosting one. MIL thinks it would be too much work and didn't want my mom to host it so she volunteered my sister. :rolleyes: Luckily my sister agreed to do it. My BF is hosting a couple shower for me as well.
uskiku - Thanks for the compliments. We really liked the Shermag gliders. I think the one you are talking about is the Grand which is the one we are getting. It reclines and also has a locking feature. DH liked that it was wider than a lot of the other gliders.
Jane&Andy - I really like your dresser. It's fairly similar to what we have. That storage box is cute too. We ended up getting the book shelf from Target and are very happy with it. I'm glad you talked with your MIL and got everything cleared up.
Sal03 - Good luck on the GD test!
JenniferEC - I really like the bedding you picked out for Caden.
ginandchris - Can't wait to see your 3D pics. We have ours scheduled for the 24th and I'm so excited to see him again.

I decided to work from home today so that I could lay down whenever I started getting the pains again. My heartburn/acid-reflux is a bit better but I'm still having problems even though I'm taking Pepcid twice per day.

Ok this may be a bit weird but I will post it anyway.
QOTD: Has anyone noticed that their leg hair is growing much slower than normal?
I shaved 2.5 weeks ago and I'm still not even prickly. My hair doesn't grow fast but I still normally have to shave once a week. Definitely a bonus since shaving seems like it will only get harder to do.
Jane&Andy
01-05-2006, 10:18 AM
nope, either I'm getting worse at shaving (as I get bigger) or my hair is growing faster. I shave EVERY day and I still don't feel smooth.
uskiku
01-05-2006, 10:50 AM
I honestly cannot tell... :confused: ... but think it might be slowing down...
Kopper yep, I think it was the Shermag Grand Chair -- congrats, it's REALLY comfy! I liked the locking feature, but do you think it's essential for a glider or not (we looked at a few that didn't seem to have it)?
Sully130
01-05-2006, 11:02 AM
QOTD - Mine definitely slows down when I'm pregnant. Good thing since right now I have to shower so quickly I'm lucky if I shave once a week. I try to get a part of my leg every other time I shower. It's quite sad! :) My electric razor died so I guess I should get a new one.
~~~~~
I'm terrible at SOs. I try...but I just can't keep up. I stayed up too late watching that game last night and now I'm so sleepy. I think people know when I'm trying to nap because it seems that's when the phone rings most!
Appointment update - I had my weekly u/s yesterday and the baby is doing great. My amniotic fluid level is still pretty normal and I can't be happier about that. I'm now on my eighth week of bedrest following my water breaking. I can't believe all of those weeks have already passed and I'll hit the "viability" mark of 24 weeks on Saturday! :)
In two weeks I'm going to start going to the doctor TWO TIMES a week until delivery! Yowzers! I will have a NST (non-stress test) twice a week, ultrasound once a week, and a blood test to monitor for infection once a week. All of this is until delivery (my due date is 4.29)! They are also planning on giving me two steroid shots (to speed up the baby's lung development in case I deliver early) starting in two weeks. Otherwise, I'm in bed all day long. It's not so bad though when you are saving your baby's life!
My DH was home from training for 10 days over Christmas and now he's gone until March 1 (at least...but you never know with the military). All in all though, life is pretty good for us. The baby is moving around tons and I love every second.
Oh, and thanks to those of you who reassured me on the childbirth and other related classes issue. I imagine I'll start doing a LOT of reading here soon and try to come up with some sort of birth plan. I guess maybe I should have two (one if I go early, one if not). Have a great day everyone!
Jane that's great your MIL finally came through! we are waiting on my mom so I know what you are going through. we assume we are getting the same thing she gave us for dylan but sooner rather than later would be nice!!
Jennifer I think it is called the lots to love baby doll? we got a boy doll even though we are having a girl. it says 3+ for the age but I do not see anything that would be a hazard. do not have the graco yet but friends do and they all love it. I MUST have something that takes the snugride after the way that saved me with dylan.
Kopper good choice on the glider. we love ours but I have wished many times we got one that reclined
Txfish Caro is ADORABLE!! What a sweet story!
Uskiku Dylan's crib has wheels and it is VERY sturdy. It is Mother Hubbard brand which I think is top rated in Baby Bargains. We are going a little cheaper for newbaby :o and getting also a sleigh style one from JC Penney but in white. I am pretty sure anyway. I just want to check baby depot one more time. The one we were looking at was $139 but went back up to $169 :rolleyes: I do not think we will get a convertible crib this time. this is it if the pic works
uskiku - I don't think the lock is essential but a lot of people really liked it in the reviews I read online. They said that it makes it easier to get up. My parents are supposed to buy it for us. Just like a lot of people posted in here about family buying stuff for them, I feel bad bringing it up and saying we need to order it now. Luckily we picked a fabric that only takes 4-5 weeks to get in. Some of the other fabrics take 12-14 weeks or so.
Sal03 - That's good to know about the reclining feature. I didn't really think it was important and thought I could do without it but DH was really sold on the reclining part. He's a gadget guy and the more features something has the more he likes it.
Sully - Yay for the good appointment! I can't believe it's been 8 weeks already. You are doing such a good job. That is a lot of appointments/tests to have but totally worth it to keep an eye on your growing baby.
Oh, glad to know I'm not the only odd one when it comes to hair growth. I'm thinking it will really help out in the end.
MIL was just over to look at our nursery progress. It was fun to show her all the baby stuff. I wish the house wasn’t so dirty but with working on the nursery and DH flooring the attic it has been hard to keep up with everything.
I wanted to get some opinions. The new PBK catalog came today and I saw the Moon & Star Wallies. We were planning on stenciling stars on the nursery walls but do you think these would look good instead? BTW the bedding in the picture and catalog is the bedding we picked out.
Here is the description:
MOON & STARS WALLIES
Bring a designer touch to your child’s room with our celestial wallies. Made of prepasted vinyl. Set includes one 22.5 x 32" h. moon and ten 11 x 11" h. stars. Catalog/Internet Exclusive.
those stars are pretty cool Kopper. Although a much sharper/crisper look then stenciled stars would be. It depends on how you envision your nursery - I think either would look great. What bedding are you using?
Kopper
01-05-2006, 06:12 PM
I agree. I was leaning towards a more whimsical look and those don't really fit that. I like them but they are a bit different that what I imagined the nursery to look like. That's why I was wanting some opinions on what might look better.
The bedding we picked is the Blue Patchwork Stars
Jane&Andy
01-06-2006, 05:45 AM
I kinda lean towards the painted stars with that bedding. I think the other stars would look fine though, I just think a softer look would be a bit better.
uskiku
01-06-2006, 06:51 AM
Kopper ITA with Jane; although these stars look cool, I'd also prefer painted ones for the same reason. Thanks for explaining me the importance of the locking feature! We found a couple of nice gliders (Best Chair) on sale at a local furniture store, but these did not have locks. Guess I have another thing to obsess about now... :rolleyes:
Sully Yay for a great appointment and for being almost 24 weeks -- Saturday will be here SOON! :)
So, after a lot of going back and forth, I finally ordered the Peg Perego Pliko in Blumoon from AlbeeBaby last night. It was such a good deal that it was hard to pass up, plus our local BRU had these, so we'd had a chance to test-drive and fold it. I'm excited!
Think gliders are going to be next on my obsessions list... Need to make up my mind whether I absolutely need the lock or not... :confused: what do you think? Are you getting a glider? We don't have a single comfy chair in the house and our hand-me-down sofa is also very uncomfortable, so I'd really like either a comfy chair or a glider.
We started working on the nursery..It's coming out really cute so I have to take some pictures. We got a ton of baby stuff for Christmas. Someone very close to us bought our Zooper stroller which is an amazing gift- and we were able to cancel the order we had for it and put the $ towards our second crib.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/hbd511/zooper.jpg
We also got a ton of clothes and the baby monitors we wanted. We bought our cribs and bedding ourselves as well as the glider we wanted. I'll take some pics when we get the bedding and the other crib in! Hopefully soon!
This is our glider
but in this fabric
http://photobucket.com/albums/v231/hbd511/th_glider.jpg
It has a matching gliging/ottoman that locks. It's a Best Chair from their Lullabye series. I really wanted something that could be reupholstered and used somewhere else in the house later on.
jrsygirl ohhhhhh I am so jealous you got the zooper!! I still have to go testdrive it. What a nice gift!!!
Uskiku my glider does not lock and I have never missed that feature. The only feature I have sometimes missed is having it recline. I do think a glider is a necessity! Especially at 4am this morning with poor DS still getting over his cold.
glider - nope, I want one but its not in the budget. I don't have any chair to put in the nursery. We do have 2 comfy chairs in the den and I registered for a nursing stool.
Its been over a week now since my GD test and no bad news - I think I'm in the clear. :) After losing my Dad to diabetes its just not something I want to deal with myself, even temporarily.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Our dresser is arriving tomorrow morning - I can't wait! :)
Sal03 I am so excited about it too..Its seriously the best gift we have gotten.
The 2006's aren't shipping until the stores release their 2005 invemtory. But my cousin who is one of those super persistent will make a zillion calls guys- called the manufacturer, distributer etc and managed to get one. The funny thing is he knew before the store that it had shipped and arrived. They kept telling him that it would be blah-blah a few weeks until he drove over and made them physically check. Lo and behold there it was :D
Apparently while he was there a few people tried to buy it off him. Even the store owner was quite impressed he actually got a 2006 so early. Not that it matters since now its just sitting there..But at least I can look at it!
Glider-We registered for one but since I just received my copy of Baby Bargains I am thinking of looking for a different one. We do plan on looking at other stores for price comparisons since more than likely we will buy this on our own. The one that we registered for does not have the locking feature.
Sully – always makes me happy to read about your fabulous updates.
Kopper – love your bedding. I agree with the rest, I’d give hand painted stars a try. But just in case it doesn’t work out then you could always order the wallies.
Jrsygirl – Oh my, I love that stroller too. What a fantastic gift.
Glider – probably not, but I really wish we could.
Braxton Hicks – is that when your belly all of a sudden becomes really hard? If so, I’ve been having them every now and then.
My hubby has finally felt baby kicks. The first time was Wed. nite and the reaction on his face was one of sheer joy and fascination. Last nite he was able to feel a few more. Both nites were from our little girl.
Nursing stool:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000056JIH.01._PE4_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Product Description
The NursingStool from Medela relieves stress on your legs, back, shoulders, and arms. Its scientific design elevates your lap to help position the baby more comfortably for breast- or bottle-feeding. The stool can also help to ease pain after an episiotomy or caesarean.
All 5 reviews on BRU give it 5 stars.
JenniferEC, Jane&Andy, uskiku & relly - Thanks! :) I think you all are right and I will stick with the stenciling. While the stars are neat, they really don't fit in with the picture I see in my head.
Jane - I registered for that same nursing stool. Actually I may just go buy it this weekend. My mom suggested it a long time ago. She uses one at work since she is short. It helps to keep your posture aligned if you have short legs but have to sit higher because of a desk. I'm hoping it will help ease some of my back pain.
So what are everyone's weekend plans? We don't have a ton but I know DH wants to finish flooring the attic so we can get everything up there. I have to run to Kohl's to return a shirt that I just noticed is coming unstitched and I haven't even worn it. I also have to run to the tailor's to complain b/c they shortened the sleeves of a shirt way too much. Do you think it's ok to ask for the cost of the shirt in addition to getting the alteration money back? I've never been able to wear it and now it's pretty much ruined. This is a tailor I've gone to for years and it's the first time I've had any problems.
Oh classes start Monday night! :)
Weekend Plans-Well we are heading up to PA tonight for MIL's holiday party. We both don't want to go but we need to borrow their carpet steamer and pick up the hand me down baby stuff that they have so we can figure out what we need. I think tomorrow we are going to hit two baby stores in MD, Buy Buy Baby and Great Beginnings, to look at baby furniture. Has anyone been to either of those stores? Other than that I know DH wants to watch the Patriots game tomorrow night.
For any girls in the DC/MD/VA or even PA area: Today we went to Great Beginnings (http://www.childrensfurniture.com) in Gaithersburg MD and we went to Buy Buy Baby (http://www.buybuybaby.com) in Rockville!
Great Beginnings was enormous and had a huge selection although I have to say that I was not impressed with their prices but it was so nice to be able to actually see all the stuff on the floor and be able to try it out much easier than at BRU!
Buy Buy Baby: Was also big and had a great selection as well. I thought their prices were a lot better than Great Beginnings though. They had so much in the selection of baby bedding it was unreal as well as in gliders and cribs!
For anyone in this area I would definitely check it out! Worth the trip!
thanks for the recommendation jeeplover. I've heard good things about Great Beginnings but figured they were going to be expensive - and therefore haven't been too motivated to make the drive.
Our dresser came today - it has spots all over it. So they're coming back next Saturday to exchange it. The spots are pretty light and I could deal with a few (they're very small too) but not all over. Anyway, I still love the dresser and regardless of the spots it looks fabulous in the room - exactly what I wanted.
We bought a two shelf bookcase at Target - its the perfect height to go under the window. We bought some very cheap roller shades for the windows and now I'm thinking about splurging on the PBK Chamois Lambie valences off of ebay (can't find anything else I like that comes remotely close to matching the room).
DH replaced and grounded the electrical outlets in the room (gotta love having an old house) so we bought new outlet covers and a light switch cover.
Some charity group is stopping by on the 27th for a donation so DH has until then to go through his clothes (he currently uses the nursery closet) and empty out that closet. That still gives me time to put stuff away before my family comes for my baby shower in February.
Slowly but surely we're making progress. :)
MMH - Great belly shot. You are really growing!
Jeeplover - Glad you were able to look at all the furniture. Doens't it look so much better in person! I know after we looked we were sold :)
Jane - Congrats on the furniture coming in, even if it needs to be corrected. I'm not sure what I'm doing about window coverings either. I am waiting till we move to see how many windows are in the room. I like the lambie curtains, but I wonder if they will let in too much light. I really want the long gingham ones from PBK, but they are a little $$ and I can't tell if they are the exact same color.
As for me, still pg! I took 25w pics and will post later!
I was FINALLY able to find wall letters that were the right size and didn't break the bank. I ordered 10" Whimsical font, plain wood letters off ebay for only $3.29 each!! I am pretty crafty when I have the patience, so hopefully painting them myself will work out. Here's a pic of what they'll look like
http://i20.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/c8/79/8f_1_b.JPG
I also found some great deals at Baby Place yesterday. I bought several sale pieces that go together in 0-3 months. Once I got home I noticed they have all the pieces online in under 7lbs! (Lots of people have told me 0-3 months will be huge on an average newborn and I *think* I want these to be his big going home outfit) Anyways here are a few of the pieces
https://www.childrensplace.com/www/b/TCP/images/styles/379158_m.jpghttps://www.childrensplace.com/www/b/TCP/images/styles/379091_m.jpg
They also have booties, overalls, a coat, and a blanket that match!
So 2x moms, were the 0-3 month clothes huge in the hospital? Would you recemmend under7lbs? Thanks!
Jennifer - I'm browsing ebay again right now for the valances. I had to start a new ebay account (couldn't remember my user ID) and update paypal (I've rarely used either account) before I could buy anything.
Mel - I'm just looking to buy the valances, not full curtains. We bought black out roller shades to cover the window. The valence is just to make it pretty and cover the hardware at the top. I don't think curtains alone would be enough.
Love the letters and the cute clothes. I think I'm skipping the letters - just don't have a good space on the wall to hang them.
Going home clothes - I think I'll bring one outfit in newborn size and one in 0-3months. Most of my neices and nephews have been average to small at birth and fit the newborn clothes but my youngest neice was nearly 10lbs. I don't plan to have a ten pounder but I guess I better be prepared just in case. (she was not expected to be so big).
I did it. :) I just bought the valances. DH is VERY skeptical (he's paranoid about everything) but the seller seemed to have a good record so I'll just keep my fingers crossed. She said she ships fast and I paid the little bit extra for shipping insurance. I think they'll look great. Now I just need to shop for a curtain rod.
Mel we had a few items that were under 7 pounds that luckily we did not wash because we had to return them all. Dylan was 8 lbs 4 oz and was fine in 0-3 month going home outfit. I would only buy 0-3 months. I really think the other would only be good for preemies. 0-3 will be big at first, but I personally think more practical. LOVE those letters. I have not seen any in such a fun font like that
Jeeplover we have a buy buy baby near us and just love that store. they are so helpful. we registered there this time instead of BRU. And all of Dylan's furniture came from there and also the dresser we ordered for this baby.
Very productive weekend!
I ordered our furniture (www.munirefurniture.com). We went with the Newport Collection in Cherry. I ordered the crib, combo (that I will use as the changing table), and the 5 drawer tall dresser. It should be here in 6-8 weeks.
I also found a couple beddings that I like. The one we bought is ABC (American Crib Bedding) and is just solid pink (bumper, skirt, sheet and blanket) and I would plan on adding some pieces and decor in the room. Then we found this skirt and coverlet from PBK that I thought I could add with the pink ABC.
I also ordered the French Rose from PBK to see if we liked it (it is only catalog/internet).
Has anyone thought about getting the Graco Safeseat (http://www.gracobaby.com/products/subcategory.asp?N=41+108+4294966320&act=A25)? We're switching our registry to this one instead of the Snugride b/c of how high the Safeseat's weight limit is. It just came out this month.
The new snugride goes up to 22 lbs. and 29 inches, but the Safeseat goes up to 30 lbs. and 32 inches. (Fits 97% of one year olds).
I'm really excited that we could have an infant seat that would last longer than a few months, that means we'd just need one to move between the different cars instead of having to buy two convertibles much sooner.
Sal - I did find a nice brushed nickel curtain rod at Target. I didn't think their selection was great (not the biggest, best Target I've ever been to) but I found one I liked at a good price (which just helps soften the blow of the expensive valances).
Gorgeous furniture MMH. And I like you plans for mixing up the bedding.
Sevilla - I hadn't heard about the new Graco infant seat. I like that weight limit but I think I'll stick with the Combi that works with my stroller. I think we're going to be able to get away with only putting the seat in one car anyway.
MMH-Love your bedding that you chose! Also love the furniture picks! I can't wait to see the finished project in a couple of months!
Sevilla-I will have to look into that car seat as we were just reading Baby Bargains and heard bad things about the Baby Trend travel system that we registered for.
We went to Target today because on their website it said that the crib that we want was on sale. Well I didn't know this but they won't order cribs for you in the store you have to order them online and pay $99 to ship it! Not happy about that. Thanks uskiku and mel7dog for the belly compliments!
Thanks Jane&Andy, jeeplover and Sal03 for the furniture / bedding compliments. I hope it all comes together.
Jane&Andy, your nursery looks great. I can't believe how much stuff you have in there already. All my little girl has is some clothes hanging in the closet.
DH and I are going to clean out the extra bedroom/office to start the nursery. We are in a two bedroom apartment for another year so we will be loosing the second bedroom and office. We are going to add some shelving to the garage for storage and move the office out into the living room. I can't wait to start the nursery. 6-8 week until the furniture comes so we have a little while until it will be set up, but I want to get it cleaned out before my first shower so we can have a place to put things.
I'm so excited! I just bought my first baby purchase! I got this stroller (Peg-Perego Pliko P3 in black sable) on ebay (brand new):
http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/albee-baby_1876_22863252
My DH thought we should wait until I at least make it to 32 weeks considering all of my issues, but I'm tired of waiting. This baby is healthy and I just know in my heart that he is going to make it. I just had to share!
Sevilla - I'm curious about that carseat too. I definitely like the higher limits (my DH and I are both taller than 5'8", so we might have a taller kid!), and I hope it will be rated just as highly as the Snugride. I would think so. Do you know if the weights (of the carseats) are about the same? I did read that it's a little bit larger and therefore doesn't fit as well in smaller cars (the front seat has to be pulled up significantly). I think I plan on putting it in the middle though, so I don't know about that.
Jane - Your nursery is looking fantastic! Mine is going to have to wait until after the baby (probably), so at least I get the benefit of getting great ideas from all of you! :)
MMH - I love your bedding/crib choices. That's going to look great!
jeeplover - I realized recently how crazy Target is with their shipping prices in general, but that's just ridiculous. Unless you are saving over $100 by buying it there, then it's completely not worth it. How do they make so much money?
~~~~~
By the way, I made it to 24 weeks yesterday! This was a HUGE milestone for me. This was the absolute goal I had to make and then everything else is just "nice to have." And I think the baby had the hiccups today. It was a first for me...too cool!

thanks for all the nursery compliments. :) I have a lot of stuff already (some of it is still not in the room) but its a combination of gifts, handmedowns and a few of my own purchases.
I sorted through the clothes, blankets, etc I already have yesterday and organized them into piles and bags. So as soon as I have a dresser and an open closet to put them in I can get started. I haven't washed anything yet but will probably do that next weekend.
Sal - my sister told me her kids loved that mirror so I bought it - doesn't take much to convince me. :) The stacker was a gift from my other sister. My Mom has that same toy at her house and I find myself often tossing it in front of the kids when they get fussy - the sounds it makes perks them right up.
Sully - nice stroller. And a big huge Congratulations for hitting 24wks! How nice to have that major milestone behind you now. :D
Sal - is this the Delta crib you're looking at?

I had not seen that new Graco seat before... interesting. Also, I had vaguely heard that the snugride was increasing the weight/length limits, but didn't know that had happened yet... are the new models in the stores now?
Gah, more to process. LOL
Still no progress on the nursery... maybe someday, perhaps even before the baby is actually born?? :D

Jane yes that is the one but in white. Thanks! Delta cribs get good reviews right? I did not find a review of the Delta Lexington but of other models that were all good.
Graco seat that is so interesting, I had not seen that yet. To be honest though, once Dylan reached the limit in his snugride it was at the point when I probably could not have carried it anymore. They are heavy in that thing. I was sad to put him in his Britax because that convenience was gone, but my back and arms were happy! :D
Sully congrats on reaching 24 weeks and such a nice purchase. I love the peg, sometimes I wish we had gotten that one the first time around
I am off to buy some paint samples!! I am nesting big time!!

The Safeseat is the increased weight/length Snugride--they changed the name. There are older Snugrides that only go up to 20 lbs., and newer ones (from the past year or two) that go up to 22 lbs. And the new Safeseat goes up to 30 lbs.--that's the model a lot of people have been waiting for.
Re: Being too heavy to carry. ITA. There's no way i'm going to lug a 30 lb. toddler around in a seat. But it will be nice to be able to switch one seat between my car, DH's car, and both sets of grandparents' cars with only needing to get additional bases for them. So i'm planning to treat it more as an 'easily portable convertible' vs. 'baby carrier'.

MMH – belly’s looking good. I think the French Rose will look very nice with the cherry crib.
Jane – congrats on being in the 3rd tri. Hope your valances arrive soon. The nursery looks wonderful, you’ve done a fantastic job.
Mel – the letters are great and the clothes are precious.
Sully – congrats on your stroller purchase. Love your positive outlook and I agree with your heart too, he is going to make it. Welcome to 24 weeks, yippee!!!
Jeeplover – great Patriots game the other night. By the way, I live in Rhode Island.
Hope you all had a nice weekend. I popped into Old Navy and bought a few things on clearance for the twins. Tonight I think I’ll check out BabyGap. Yesterday, my parents stopped by for a visit and then took us out for dinner, yum.
Classes – just signed up for child birth preparation through how to take care of a baby and postpartum, will start next Wed. the 18th, 2 hour classes for 5 weeks. I can’t wait.

It's going to be quite funny to see everyone carrying their pillows and blanket in. Must look like a slumber party of preggos at the hospital! :D

now I'm having issues with Haverty's regarding exchanging the dresser - instead of doing it this Saturday they're now saying it can't be done any sooner than the 30th - which means the first weekend in February in order to get Saturday delivery.
I'm having a bunch of my in-laws over on the 21st so it would be nice to have that taken care of before then. :(
There's a chance they might be able to do it sooner but the lady wasn't very nice to me so DH gets to deal with them from now on. I still love the dresser, just not the saleslady.
In the meantime I guess I need to put some more time and elbow grease into those spots and see if I can't get them off.

Jane-I am so sorry for the rude woman at Haverty's! What a pain that they are now changing the date on you!
Doctor's Appointment Update: Had my 24 week appointment today. It went well. She measured me again and I am measuring at 26-26 1/2 weeks! AUGH! I have gained a total of 17 pounds so far. We talked about the horrible itching I am having although it has cleared up on my back but is still present on my sides, chest and is now on my belly! It is so itchy and red and blotchy-not attractive at all! My doctor says that I have what they call PUPPs and it is not serious and will disappear after the baby is born. I am feeling pretty good aside from I still have this cold that just won't go away. My sleeping is horrible and the carpal tunnel is getting worse. I am going to buy a wrist splint tonight to wear when it really hurts to see if that helps. I still have the heartburn but I am still taking the Zantac and that helps. I see my high risk OB next week and I think he is going to do another ultrasound and also measure the baby and then at the end of the month I will go back to my regular OB. Next doctors appointments: High risk OB January 20th and next regular OB visit is on January 30th

Jane - That's too bad about the dresser? Is there any way you can pick it up?
MMH - I think that bedding will look great with the dark furniture.
Sully - Great stroller! I like the color pattern!
Mel - Those clothes are really cute! I bought a few up to 7 lb outfits and Caden wore them once. You can see in the pic below he has on of them when he was a few days old and it is too small. He was 7-13. I guess it depends on the baby, but we're sticking with 0-3 this time.
http://images.snapfish.com/3459%3A76%3A8%7Ffp337%3Enu%3D3262%3E3%3B3%3E6%3C7% 3EWSNRCG%3D32334559%3C66%3B%3Cnu0mrj
Graco seat - I'm with Sal. Caden was too heavy at the end in that thing. I have no idea if we'll get a new car seat (probably not), but I can't imagine carrying around that seat with an additional 30 lbs in it. It's a great idea though.
Jane&Andy
01-09-2006, 02:06 PM
Jennifer - Caden looks so cute and little in that photo! :)
Nope, there is no way we can pick up the dresser. Our cars are both 2 door cars. Anyway, we still have the "bad" dresser here and I really would rather their delivery men pick it up so if its damaged in transit its not our fault.
newborn clothes - I'm not buying much in that size but I'm glad I'll have a few things in that size on hand. I have a few handmedowns from my sister already. I have an adorable outfit my other sister bought for me in newborn size - if he's small enough it will be his going home outfit. It looks bigger than the other newborn stuff I have but that may be b/c it hasn't been washed yet.

carseat: FWIW, I wouldnt bother with the newfangled one if I was going to buy another seat. We had a graco snugride for Jilly and she grew out if it at 4 months. She was nowhere near too heavy, but she was too tall. Right now at almost a year, she is still only 19/20lbs (lean) but on the taller end of the height spectrum for her age at 30+ inches. I do miss the convenience of having an infant seat, but there is no way I'd still be carrying her around in it even if she fit in one. She'd pitch a fit. She's much too wiggly, and much too interested in what is going on around her to tolerate it at this point.
going home outfit sizing: We could have used a smaller outfit the 1st time around. Jilly was born at 7lbs 9oz, 22 in long. She SWAM in her 0-3 month going home outfit! I was a big baby myself (9lbs 6.5oz) and DH was bigger for a twin (7lbs 3oz) so was expecting Jilly to be bigger, especially since she was late :p This time, I will prolly have a smaller outfit ready just in case.
My back is a misery to me. The last time I was at the OB she gave me a referral for my sciatica, etc. I still havent had the opportunity to set the appointment, but I could sure use it soon!
Had a scare last friday that thankfully turned out to be nothing. I started having contractions, but pretty mild ones (like a 1 on a pain scale from 1-10). They tell you to call if you have more than 4 an hour...i had TWENTY! They were coming every 3-4 minutes and it scared the crap out of me! By the time I got to the doc's office and they put me on the moniter the contrax had stopped altogether. PHEW! I was so flipped out.
Sorry bout the bummer post! Other than the my silly back pain and the unscheduled contrax, everything is great! Baby's growing great and has a strong heartbeat. My next appt is on 1/25 and I do the glucose at that time.

jeeplover: So sorry about the PUPPS! I struggle with eczema so i know that itchy, rashy skin is just no fun. One thing i've been doing this pregnancy that has made a huge difference (since i can't use any of the prescription creams to manage it) is to slather on intensive lotion (like Eucerin) immediatly after i get out of the shower--like within 30 seconds of toweling off. My skin absorbs the moisture so much better than if i put the lotion on dry, and it has really made my eczema a lot more manageable.
Oh, and don't worry about measuring behind/ahead. When i had my last appointment and they measured my fundal height i asked about that and my midwife said that the measurements can vary so much woman to woman depending on your body type and how the baby is positioned--so what they look for is just that you keep growing appointment to appointment, not hitting a specific week :).

Ok. I got a Shower question/issue.
Before Christmas my MIL asked me if she could plan the shower. I said sure but I'd like for my mom to be included if at all possible. Well Christmas came and DH & I had a big blowout with his mom over the baby spending the night with her sometime after she's born. His family are smokers, (please this is not meant to offend smokers) and we do not feel comfortable leaving the baby with them unattended b/c they will probably smoke around the baby. They realize how opposed we are to the smoking ourselves, and I'm confused why she would have thought I'd be any different with our baby. Well anyway, I'm not really sure the situation was resolved. I think it was kind of left as this is how we feel, and how it's going to be. Now I'm wondering if she's going to still want to do the baby shower, and should I ask her. Would it be like asking, Hey I want your gifts, but you can't have the baby???

Hi everyone,
Jane--your nursery is too cute! You are soo ahead of me! I'm barely just getting things organized for the nursery. We have a queen bed and DH's old computer desk that we have move out of the room soon so I get to getting the room ready.
MMH--your belly shots are cute.
Sully--Congrats on getting to this milestone! :) We also are wanting to get the P3. My DH tried it out in BRU and really liked it.
Mel--your going home outfit is soo cute! I'm hoping to get mine picked out soon, more than likely after my shower.
Let's see we had a pretty busy weekend. We did our 3D u/s I'll post a pic after this post. It was so amazing to see our baby girl. :D Yes, they were able to confirm that I'm definitely having a girl! Once I heard that, of course I started on our registeries. I'm almost done with Target and I plan to do BRU tonight after I get off of work. I'm soo excited, now that we FINALLY know for sure! Plus, my cousin and my parents are throwing my shower on Feb 11th, we can't wait! Oh my next appt is February 3rd.
carseat--we are just getting the Peg carseat to match. When we took our pregnancy class they told us that we would probably end up getting 3 carseats for the child as it grows, so we are just going to do that.

jeeplover - sorry about the PUPPs. :(
briamcd - would your DH be willing to talk to his Mom about the shower? Sorry about the awkward situation. There are several smokers in my DH's family but luckily they only smoke outside. I'll still be wanting them to air out a bit before coming back in and trying to hold my baby though.

GinandChris - Congrats on the little girl, and what a beautiful little girl she is!
Briamcd - Ugh. Sorry about the MIL situation. I totally see the shower as separate from the "smoking" issue - I mean, she offered to host the shower! Definitely follow up with her on it.
SaphirimalMei - Yikes, that must have been a scare. I guess you knew what contrax felt like b/c this is #2 for you, but I'm worried I won't. Is it like bad stomach cramps? I hope you get some relief for your poor back.
JenniferEC - What a sweet pic of Caden!
Jane - I love your nursery. That's great that you already have so much baby stuff. Makes it seem like the baby's almost here. And yay for third trimester!
Mel - I love the nursery letters! Are you going to hang them directly on the wall or use ribbon?
MMH - Your furniture and bedding choices look great!
Sully - Love the stroller! And congrats on 24 weeks.
Classes - Still undecided on taking any.
DH is on another business trip this week (boo!). We had a nice weekend of baby gear shopping though. I know I need to order my glider, but I just can't decide on fabric color. Also, *still* can't decide on bedding. We'll probably register next weekend. Is it better to do it online or in the store?
I have my dr.'s appt. and glucose test tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Littlestar I found it easier to start my registry online so you can enter your name and address and everything yourself and just add a few items. Then in the store you can just go in and say you want to add items to your registry and they'll show you how to use the scanner gun thing and you'll already have all your info in the computer. This way you don't have to wait and fill out a form and wait for them to type it all in. You can just get the scanner and go.
Baby had hiccups for the first time twice today. I found it kind of annoying when Dylan had them and I am having that feeling again this time! I think as of today I am officially in the third trimester. absolutely INSANE how fast it is going this time. We picked out a pretty pink paint for her room and are going to get light green carpeting when the painting is done. We are pretty set on a bedding set from PBK and I think we are going to order the crib from Baby Depot this weekend. Oh and a good friend of mine gave me BOXES of her daughters outgrown and that was just 0-3 and 3-6 so we barely have to get any layette. I think I counted 30 onesies alone and tons of side snap t's and all that kind of stuff. And everything is in perfect condition. It was so much fun going through all the little clothes. I forgot how tiny all the newborn stuff is. And we just got a 20% coupon to buy buy baby so we are going to pick up the graco tandem stroller and my grandma is going to buy us that. So I finally think we are making progress!

Wow this thread is flying!
Sal - Congrats on all the free baby clothes! Sounds like you hit the jackpot :)
MMH - I LOVE your nursery ideas. Sometimes I wish I was going with a classy simple theme like yours, but I think the PBK lambie is fairly simple.
Littlestar - I'm not sure yet about hanging the letters. I like the way ribbon looks, but don't want my boy letters to looks too girly. We'll have to see after I decide how to paint them and where to hang them.
Gina - Love the 3D pics :)
Not much going on with me. After a tired week last week, my energy is back x3! Back pain has been ok, and heartburn has started to return occasionally as well. Overall I can't complain though! Yesterday the baby was moving ALL DAY. It was different than little kicks and punches, more dragging of his parts across my belly. I could actually see it and it felt weird and amazing at the same time!

I've been busy today so I haven't had a chance to catch up. We had our first class last night and it was pretty fun. I have a question though. ROs might be able to better answer this. Our instructor said that once the baby is born they take them to the nursery after about an hour to get checked out. She said they are usually in there for 2-3 hours. Is this normal/common? I just keep thinking about after he is born and I will want him with me. Was it hard to let your baby go to the nursery? Does it really take that long? Why can't they check them out in your room? Sorry so many questions but this is really bothering me. I guess I just didn’t realize how long he would be gone.

Our instructor said that once the baby is born they take them to the nursery after about an hour to get checked out. She said they are usually in there for 2-3 hours. Is this normal/common?
This totally depends on each hospital's policy. I have two hospitals to choose between. One takes the baby to the nursery an hour after birth like you described, and the other leaves baby with you the entire time (i'm going with the second hospital for that and other reasons).
There's no real medical need to take the baby from you, just hospital routine and procedure. I would ask your doctor/midwife if you can get around that policy and keep the baby with you at all times--usually if your dr. supports you on something the hospital will go along with it. I wouldn't want to be separated from my baby so soon either!
ETA: I put together a list of qustions to ask on hospital tours and found it really helpful when i did my visit. If anyone is interested in it i can post it in the thread or PM it to you :).

Littlestar - I started my registries online just to get the basics (name, address, etc) out of the way. I dragged DH to BRU so he could see the selection (I'd already done some browsing without him) but for the most part he didn't seem too particular about anything so I probably could have just done it all online on my own. I found it helpful to go to the stores early on but if you already know what you want than online is easier.
Our dresser is being exchanged this Saturday after all. Can't wait to have that taken care of. :)
jrsygirl - I don't think I've felt any hiccups yet but my sister told me they are very rhythmic, unlike the random kicks here and there I'm used to feeling.
Sal03
01-10-2006, 04:38 PM
jrsygirl it does not feel like a kick. it is just kind of a rhythmic movement inside you. You'll know it when you feel it :)
kopper they did take DS to the nursery for a little bit, but not for long. DH went with him and I got stitched up and cleaned up. Then DH came back, we had a little snack (we were both starved!) and then they brought him back. It was not too long. I think they just bathe him and get him all swaddled and stuff. After that he stayed in the room with me most of the time except when the pediatrician was seeing all the babies in the nursery.
JenniferEC

kopper - Caden never left my sight except for his circ, and DH went with him for that. Our hospital doesn't open the nursery unless it's necessary.
Jane - Congrats on getting the dresser so soon. It's the least they could do for giving you a spotty piece of furniture.
jrsygirl - Caden had hiccups almost every night. It was funny to watch, but terribly annoying. Constant movement was the last thing I wanted while trying to go to bed. They would last about 15-20 mins.

I have had the most frustrating afternoon! I was supposed to have my glucose test...My dr.'s appt. was at 3:15 today, and I didn't leave until almost 5. Most of that time was waiting (and waiting). I'm more ticked b/c I have so much work to do, and I had so much to finish up before I could even leave for the dr.'s office, that I didn't have time to get any files together to bring with me to work on. I'm most ticked b/c "apparently" I was supposed to ask the receptionist for the glucose test drink when I got there. Neither DH nor I remember being told that at my last appt. So I didn't (and really, they expect a prego to remember something she was told 4 weeks ago??). So by the time I actually saw a nurse (at 4:30!), it was too late to take the test. So I have to go back Thursday morning and take it. :mad:
And...we had another painter come out to give us an estimate. I had hoped (for various reasons) that he would come in low, but he was actually the highest of all by about $400 :eek: So, now I'm not so sure DH will let me get the house painted. :(
OK - enough whining ;) Thanks for letting me vent. In other (good) news, the dr. says the baby and I are doing great. And DH will be home in only 2 days - can't wait :D

Ordered our dresser yesterday! It should arrive in 1-2 weeks. So excited. Here's a pic, we got just the dresser not the mirror. We got it at a different place than the crib. The crib is a cherry sleigh crib, and the colors almost match exactly. :) The dresser looks really skinny, but it's wide enough for a changing pad.

HI girls -- glad everyone is getting such good reports.
Littlestar, sorry about the mishap -- I hate that. My dr's office is usually pretty good at scheduling things, but sometimes they really drop the ball and it means I'm missing more work than I can afford. Hope Thurs goes quickly.
Jeeplover, yikes -- sorry to hear about the PUPPs. I have a few friends who had it, and I know it was miserable -- hope you'll get some relief with oatmeal lotions, etc.
HUGE VENT: I am just so frustrated and fed up with the bedding issue today. I know I'm blowing everything out of proportion, but I'm sick of it -- my boss finally finds out that she's having a girl also, and had said long ago that she'd love to see my old bedding if hers was a girl. So I bring her the crib quilt to see, and she kind of smirks at me and tells me that she'll take it home for her husband to see, but he found one he really liked at BRU -- of course it's the exact same one *I'M* switching to. I get that anything sold in mass quantities at BRU isn't exactly going to be unique (and I really, really do care about that but I'm trying to get over it), but this woman is driving me up the wall -- it's like everything I do she does too, only more so. I even realize that they "picked" it independently of knowing what I was picking, I'm not a total crazy LOL but it is really grating on my nerves right now. (Not to mention, how many women allow their dh to pick out their daughter's bedding? What is that about?) I'm just so fed up -- first she goes and gets pregnant right after me, and she's not married yet, so first our office gets subjected to this whole big hoopla about her getting married and the wedding planning and the wedding lunch with gifts that I helped plan, rather than focusing on myself & my early pregnancy. So now my own maternity leave is severely compromised because of her close due date, and of course she's having some potential placenta problems, so it's possible if not likely that she ends up on bedrest at the end, right when I'm out -- which just makes my job harder when I have to come back at 6 wks on the dot. Now the company baby shower that they always do is being split up, so neither of us will get what we would have normally gotten (not to mention that people aren't going to want to shell out again since they just did her wedding gifts). [Disclaimer: I'm really not trying to be greedy about this. I was told upfront by one of the other girls that they always do this big shower and people normally get all of their bedding and carseat and stroller, so while I'd be fine if they didn't do anything, it grates that I know what would normally be showered on me is going to be reduced by her, again.] She's 2 months behind me, and is showing twice as much, so of course she gets all the attention wherever we go. She stands around rubbing her stomach all damn day like she's the freaking holy buddha, and has been doing it since she was like 1 month pregnant. I'm trying desperately to budget and get a few basic things for maternity clothes, and not buying anything that' snot work-related, because that's where I really need it, so the weekends are all about making do, not exactly comfort. But I have to look professional, right? So what does she do, but decide that her feet just hurt too much to wear anything else, and at 5 months has decided that she'll just wear her running shoes every day for the remainder. It's not like she's the only one who'd rather be a little more comfortable during the day, but I'm not walking around making a fool out of myself. It's just like, HELLO?? Can I have a tiny bit of my own pregnancy to myself, get a little bit of the perks? I know this is bitchy and whiny and not totally rational, but the whole thing is really stressing me out. This bedding thing just pushed me right over the edge this morning. Sorry, thanks for the vent space LOL
Have my glucose test & another appt on Friday...
Gina -- what a beautiful little girl!!! How cool; I'd love to have one of those done.

Jeeplover – sorry you’ve got the itchies.
Jennifer – what a precious pic of Caden, love his puckered lips.
Saphirimal – gosh what a scare, thank goodness the contrax stopped. Hope your back’s feeling better.
Briamcd – I also agree that the baby shower and the smoking are 2 separate issues. I’m sure your MIL will still be hosting it, perhaps you’re Mom could give MIL a call to see how she could help out. As far as the smoking, good for you for saying no to a sleep over, even they as smokers must be able to understand your concern, it is common knowledge that 2nd hand smoke is dangerous. Nice dresser.
Gina – what an adorable pic, she’s beautiful.
Jane – glad the dresser situation is all set.
As for me, all is well. Had an appt. with the midwife, lost 1 pound in the past 2 wks., sugar levels are good, blood pressure is good, babies look good. Right now they’re both lying across my belly.
I’m starting to worry about the state of our home. I think I mentioned before that we are in the midst of a major renovation. My DH is doing all the work himself, in addition to working 3 days a week (thank goodness he works for his Dad). All I want done by the end of February is the first floor – which will consist of a new kitchen (all the cabinets have already been delivered), living room and sun room/tv room (current walls and ceilings need to be knocked down). I’ll have to post pics for you all, right now our home is a disaster area. I’m feeling great but what if I have to go on bedrest all of a sudden, our bedroom is to become part of our new living room. We’ll have an upstairs with our 3 bedrooms eventually, but my only desire right now is to finish the 1st floor, then when the babies come home it will be like we live in a studio apartment, I’m okay with that. All of it will be shiny new and clean, except for the bathroom, it’s old and tiny – but the babies won’t need to go in there. There are 4 twin mommies to be in the March group and 3 of them are on bedrest, eek!
Oh how I wish I was painting my nursery, purchasing furniture, and most of all buying the bedding, some day I will. I love living vicariously through all of you, so keep the pics coming!

gorgeous dresser Briamcd.
Txfish - sorry to hear about the work problems. I've only been to one baby shower at my work but the person got their travel system plus lots of smaller gifts. I figured they'd do something similar for me but now I'm not so sure. Only 1 or 2 people (besides the few people I work with on a daily basis) in my department have actually said anything to me about my pregnancy. They aren't the most social group - its like high school - very cliquey with each other and not interested in "outsiders."
I hope you still get a big shower at work. I'd like to think I'd spend the same amount regardless of how many people were being showered. I'm sorry you're time off is being cut short b/c of hers. That stinks.
relly - wow, my house could use the same treatment (I have the ugliest kitchen ever) but I think I'd go nuts if we did it now. But just think, it may not be fun now but in the end you will have a beautiful house!

Well, gotten through 26 weeks without a majorcomplaint,
so I keep trying to downplay achy hips in the morning and occasional throbbing legs. I know this is nothing compared to the nausea so many of you battled -- and continue to battle!!!
Well, I've FINALLY gotten some progress on the looooong list of things that have been needing a decision, including:
decided on crib and furniture - will place order in late Jan -- Yay!
crib, but in a darker 'hazelnut' (http://www.usababy.com/product_img/amb_rm.jpg)color
http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/albee-baby_1880_67127928
Chest
http://www.sauder.com/images/product/Normal/Chest_400458.jpg
Desk for use as a changing table (won't use hutch part until later)
http://www.sauder.com/images/product/Normal/Computer_Desk_400461_1.jpg
Decided on the rest of the 'big' baby items - strollers, car seats, pack-n-play
FINALLY decided on birth classes - registered for hypnobirthing classes that will start in Feb. I still need to sign up for Baby CPR and breastfeeding at the hospital and take hospital tour, but those are easy in my mind!!!
I THINK we've got a name finalized
Figured out my maternity leave/how long I can take off (I have to use my sick/annual leave - Fed workers don't get 'maternity' time)
Working with friend on guest list/dates/location for shower - I want a co-ed one thats more of an 'afternoon celebration' than traditional baby shower. I've got so many guy friends, and Judd said "hey, it's MY kid, too!!" :p I've got no objections, and it sounds like things will be fun. Don't know abotu a work shower, but they usually do something small for us here. I just want some cake! :D
Started digging through the huge bag of baby clothes my brother sent us -40 pounds of preemie -> 12 months old. I'm going to start sorting and washing it this weekend.
There's still so much to do, daycare, peditrician, actually putting the nursery together..aak!
This brings me to my big question: Does anyone have the 'layette' list of what you should have for baby? Things like # of onesies, washcloths, etc?? I think there's one in Baby Bargains, but I can't put my hands on my copy now..
Only a week and a half 'till Mexico! (and that brings up a whole 'nuther list of things to do, but at least that's fun!!) I tried on all of my borrowed summery Mat clothes, and they fit great. Thankfully, I'm not really that big yet so can even make do with a few non-mat sundresses!
happy wednesday everyone!

It's so fun to see the different nursery furniture people are getting! It all looks really good :).
I got my GTT test results today and i passed (# was 125) so that's good. For those of you who have to do the 3 hr. i hope it goes well, i'm really sorry you have to go through it. I kept calling it "gtt" when my midwife was talking to me though and she and the nurses were like "the what???" I guess that's what CC's baby threads will do to you :p.
Also did my second hospital tour today--i hated the first hospital i toured, it was so 'medical' feeling. This one was *wonderful*. I had a private tour and the childbirth education coordinator spent 1 1/2 hours with me answering all my questions and giving me a very detailed tour (and saying how glad she was i was asking them!) and was really supportive. The rooms and bathrooms were so much nicer (and bigger!) than the other hospital's too. The nurses were nice, and they do mother/baby rooming in 24/7--even from birth. Even with jaundice they bring the billi lights into your room if you request it, and they're well-educated about and supporting of breastfeeding which is also important to me. All in all i think it will be a place that i'm happy to give birth in :).

Love the dresser briamcd. We're looking for something similar - do you mind if I ask the brand?
Txfish - I'm sorry about what's going on at work. It's hard not to be affected by that! There are a bunch of gals at my work that are pg too. I don't think that takes away from how happy people are for you and I bet you still have a nice shower. Hang in there!:)
Relly - great baby update! That's awesome that you're renovating your house. Think how wonderful it will be when it's all finished and exactly the way you want it. Please post pics!
Cagey - My hips ache in the morning too! For me, it's because sleeping on my side makes 'em hurt and the only time they feel better is if I roll over and sleep on my back for a little while. Then that gets uncomfortable, and it's back to my side :p Will be nice to sleep on my tummy again! Congrats on getting so much done. I think a co-ed shower is a great idea and sounds fun.
Sevilla - congrats on passing the GTT test. My glucose test's tomorrow, and I'm nervous. Your hospital sounds really nice.
I had a bad night last night. Threw up (for the first time in the pregnancy) and had horrible stomach cramps - like to the point I was yelling/moaning in pain. Good thing DH wasn't here - he would have freaked out. I don't think it was baby related though. I'm usually lactose intolerant, but have been able to drink milk (in fact, craved it) ever since I found out I was expecting. Well, I had a big glass of milk last night before going to bed, and I think my carefree dairy days are over. So now I'm wondering, how am I going to handle the pain of childbirth??

So I thought I was done with the big decisions (at least regarding baby gear) once my registry was done and the furniture was picked out but now I'm back to square one with the stroller.
BRU has my Combi stroller listed as unavailable and when I called they couldn't offer any sort of explanation. Its been unavailable online for awhile now and isn't available in my local store so I decided to give up on it. My sister has a Graco Snugride I can use so I just emailed her to take her up on the offer and I added a Snugride Car Seat Carrier stroller thingy to my registry. That buys me a little time to make the stroller decision.
Right now I'm leaning towards a lightweight MacLaren that I can start using at 3months.
I felt some kicks up really high first thing this morning but now they've been down low for the rest of the day. Has me very curious about how this kid is positioned. 2 more weeks til my next appt - I'll ask then about his position.

Jane - Sorry about the stroller. It is possible though that maybe a newer model will soon come out? Seems like lots of the brands are having closeouts on their older models and newer ones are coming out. I've noticed that BRU online is a little slow to update all of these things (like they don't have the Graco Infant Safeseat readily available online yet though I hear it is in the store).
Do you only want it if it can be on your registry (i.e. someone else buys it!)? Because if not, you could check Albeebaby.com and they have great prices on strollers. Just a thought. Hope you find something you like!

ITA with this. I hope your stroller (or a better one) comes into stock soon Jane! (And the SafeSeat is now able to be ordered at babiesrus online--it just got a picture and availability two days ago, thankfully in the pattern we wanted (Roxy) :).

This is so annoying. I HATE babiesrus.com. I asked to be emailed when it was available and of course nothing..
Janewe originally had the combi carseat and it wasn't available online because they are swapping for the 2006 models which will be pretty much the same.

LittleStar - Hope your GD test went well today. You deserve it after the mix-up.
Txfish - Sorry about all the drama at work. I hope you get the shower and attention you deserve!
relly - Maybe the renovations will get done on time, if not early, even if you don't go on bedrest.
cagey - Did you get that layette list? If not, I can get it from my BB book. I didn't go by that, I just made sure I had a week's worth of stuff at a time so that if I didn't have the laundry done, I wasn't without anything.
Sevilla - Congrats on passing your test!
Jane - Sorry to hear about BRU. As much as I appreciated their registry, I hated it more. They are awful about those kinds of things and worse about letting you know when things are unavailable. I remember finding out our swing was discontinued only because I noticed it wasn't available online so DH and I went into the store and found out in person. Maybe jrsygirl is right and they're just switching to the newer models and you can go in and put the 06 model on your registry.
I've been having some serious pain in the pubic area, especially at night. It was so bad yesterday I almost called the doctor to see if I could come in. I know there's not much they can do, but it really hurt.
Only one more day and I get to go to St. Louis for the weekend to see some skating. I'm leaving Caden with DH and my mom and I are going because it's something I've always wanted to do. I'm so looking forward to the break!
Tomorrow is Friday! :)

Sully - I'd be happy to buy the Combi Stroller myself - I just haven't found it elsewhere (at least not the same one). I'd actually be pretty surprised if we got it as a shower gift from anyone. I hadn't tried AlbeeBaby though. thanks for the suggestion.
Jennifer - I have several other items listed as unavailable on my BRU registry too. But the stroller is the only big one that has me panicked.
jrsygirl - my Combi carseat was actually still available, just not the stroller.
new model? I did find some 2006 Combi strollers on other websites but not a 2006 version of the Combi I wanted. I've been keeping on eye on BRU online to watch for new Combi's. I haven't totally given up on it yet but I'm not hopeful at this point.

Does anyone know if the Safeseats are compatible with the snap n go strollers?
Jane&Andy
01-12-2006, 12:30 PM
Sully - Albeebaby is out of it too but still definitely a resource to keep in mind. I don't want to buy it til after my shower when I see what else I need - so I've got another month to look and think. Then I'll be able to take stock of what I have and need and figure out what I can spend on the stroller. DH's Uncle is apparently planning to give each of us a hefty check as a gift for the first baby but I hate to count on money thats not in my hands.
JenniferEC
01-12-2006, 12:31 PM
Jane - I don't know about BRU, but USA Baby near us told me they won't get all of their 06 models in until the end of this month at the earliest, and that included the Combi. I hope they don't get it too late that you can't put it on there before your shower. If so, you might have to get it on your own, but as Sully said, there are a lot of websites out there that will sell them cheaper than in the store with free shipping.

01-12-2006, 12:36 PM
Jennifer - thanks! thats good to know. Honestly, I'd be super surprised if I got the stroller as a shower gift. I'm having a very small shower and already know about several big ticket items I'll be getting - that doesn't leave much room for the stroller. So I'm not sure why I'm letting the shower date cause me any stress over the stroller. I guess it still would be nice if the stroller was available in case someone decided to buy it. Its more likely that my work or Andy's work might buy it as a group gift but neither of our offices have brought that topic up yet so I assume if they did do a shower it wouldn't be til later.
I'm not expecting to get everything as a shower gift anyway, I'd just rather wait to buy stuff and see whats left that I need after the shower.

I feel so terrible that I haven't kept up with this thread. Work has been crazy busy and we've been busy working on things at home. I'm going to try my hardest to get caught up in the next few days. Thanks to everyone who responded to my sorta freakout post about how long the baby will be away. DH thinks it's not really a big deal but it still bothers me. I'm going to ask about it at our next class on Monday.
I had my appointment today and everything went well. I'm still measuring ahead (~3 weeks) but she said no to worry yet. I just might have a big baby or who knows. Unfortunately I have some kind of UTI infection so I have to start taking antibiotics. She said the pains I've been having could be stretching and growing or it could be the infection. Other than that everything is great!
Appointments: Jan 30th (regular appointment) & Jan 24th 3D/4D scan

Just wanted to drop in quickly to thank Sevilla for letting me know about the Safeseat. That's the one I want too (Roxy pattern). I'm glad to know it's finally up on BRU.
Oh, and jrsygirl, I think I read somewhere over the past few days that the Safeseat was compatible with the Snap n' go...but I will defer the real answer to someone who can actually go somewhere and try it out.
~~~~
BTW, my appointment this week was fantastic. My fluid level was the highest its ever been (AFI=17, previous weeks had been between 8-13). I have my GTT next week and I'm actually excited about it a little because I'm so happy to have made it long enough in my pregnancy to need it! :) I'm weird, right? ;)
And the baby is getting so big! He's starting to kick me in all kinds of new places too. April can't get here fast enough!
Sully - so glad to hear you are doing so well!
Kopper - sorry to hear about the infection, I hope you feel better soon.
Nothing much going on here. Haverty's is still planning to exchange our dresser tomorrow morning. I kept expecting them to call and say, oops, nevermind - we can't do it til February.
We're slowly making progress cleaning and reorganizing the house to make room for baby stuff.
I'm still stroller browsing but won't make a final decision probably til next month. I want to see what happens with the 2006 models and how much other stuff I need to buy after my shower. I have my sister's snugride to use so at least that part is settled.
I ordered some baskets for the nursery off of JC Penney. They have a great selection (as far as colors). They won't ship from the warehouse for 2 wks though so I won't have them for awhile.
Joey was very active yesterday but in the evening when DH was around he decided to snooze. DH got to feel a few small kicks so that was good at least. He hasn't gotten to feel many so far - our baby is quite stubborn.
briamcd
01-13-2006, 07:13 AM
Jane - my baby girl is stubborn/shy too. She moves around all day now and when I put my hand on my stomach to feel from the outside she stops moving. and of course she stops when DH tries to feel. He's only felt her move once.
Morning girls!
First, thanks for the support on the work drama... I'm not really put out at all if I don't get a shower, it's just the most tangible thing to describe what's going on. She's just got me at the limits of patience daily.
Sorry so many of you are getting the aches & pains -- hope you can find a comfy sleeping position!
Jane -- I asked BRU about this issue, as I went to look at the Combi and play with it again a month ago. I was told that they were not carrying it anymore, because it was such a small company that they couldn't keep with BRU demand unless BRU became their only seller, which they didn't want to do. My store only carries the $99 soho stroller now, not even the carseat. But I have found it at USA Baby, and listen -- Ebay, Ebay, Ebay. There are at least 3 stores who are selling this stuff new in box, including the exact carseat we were looking at (Connection.) It looks like they're switching back to the Tyro for 2006, which I haven't seen in person, but I don't like as well -- but check it out; there are tons of Combi carseats & strollers on there. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is, does the Combi Connection go on a snap-n-go or not???
Sevilla, great news on the GTT and the hospital!! Sounds fantastic -- so glad you've got a wonderful place to go.
I am so awful, I cannot remember what else... have to get back to the working part of my day!
TXfish - thanks so much for the information about the Combi strollers. Thats really too bad that they aren't going to carry them anymore. I only found one BRU that had the stroller in the store (in Chicago - visiting my sister) and it was a great stroller. :( I'm looking at some Zoopers now. The MacLarens looked great until I noticed that they don't have a basket underneath. I don't think I'd be happy without one. I know when I'm out with my sisters I take advantage of their stroller baskets. :p
DH just about freaked out over me buying the PBK valances off of Ebay - not too sure how he'd handle an even bigger Ebay purchase. He's super paranoid.
TXfish - I don't know about the Combi carseats and the snap n go but I found this (http://www.tinyride.com/Combi-Flash-EX-P432.aspx) Combi brand snap n go type stroller. It says it works with the Combi Connection and Combi Tyro II.
TXFISH & Jane Just FYI The Combi does NOT fit on the snap and go. We emailed both Combii and the manufacturer of the Snap N Go and they both said the same thing. combi makes their own version but unfortunately for me its only available in a single.
TXfish - here's some more Combi brand (http://www.combistrollers.com/ProductsList.aspx?CategoryID=4&selection=8&Children=0) snap n go's for you.
jrsygirl - thanks for the info on the snap n go's!
I'm finding some cheap Combi's that look pretty good but I'm afraid if I go too cheap that maybe it won't be a good enough stroller. I imagine I'll mostly use it for walking around the neighborhood or the mall and trips to DC and the zoo.
Jane&Andy
01-13-2006, 09:47 AM
just had to come back and post another one for you Txfish, this website (http://www.babyage.com/categories/strollers.htm) has the Combi snap n go on sale for only $30!
I think I've decided on my stroller now - the Zooper Waltz. I can get a 2005 or 2006 (just depends on availability once I'm ready to buy it) for $150ish. I've found them on 2 websites and both offer free shipping. They're compatible with the Snugride so I may take the snap n go off my registry or return it if I do get it.
QOTD: anyone else stalking their registries?
I am. :o It started out as me keeping an eye out for the stroller availability (and a few other temporarily unavailable items as well) but now that something has been purchased I don't think I can stop myself from peeking. I was a bridal registry peeker too. :o (its my pack n play that was purchased - I'm very excited about that since its been listed as unavailable since before I registered even though I'd seen it in two different BRUs - for a good price it had a lot of features I liked. Anyway, I was worried it would be difficult for people to find).
QOTD: Are you stalking your registeries?
Well, yeah I will be once I know the invites for my shower have gone out! :D Like Jane I too was a bridal registry peeker too! Its just nice knowing what people have bought and what things they haven't. Plus its just fun knowing.
Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm just glad my job celebrates the MLK holiday so I get a 3 day weekend! :) Plus DH is bring about 10 boxes of my old stuff to donate today out of our storage so we can definitely start organizing the baby's room! Finally, the nesting is really kicking in.
01-13-2006, 10:19 AM
Like ginandchris the nesting is kicking in here too! We currently living in a 2 bedroom apartment so we are turning the 2nd bedroom / office into the nursery. When we moved here last March we never bought an actual desk for the office and I just used a folding table. Well Wednesday night we bought a 5 piece office set that we set up out in the living room for my office / work desk. Saturday we are going to Costco to buy some shelves for the garage so we can clean out the 2nd bedroom closet and move things to storage boxes in the garage. We will then move the bed out and the room should be ready for the furniture when it is delivered in 5-7 weeks! We are also planning on getting all the carpets cleaned the 1st of April so the place will be as clean as possible for when the baby comes!
QOTD I have been stalking my register but really only to make sure we have everything we need and what we want. I have added / deleted / changed a few things the last couple of days. My first shower (Feb 11th) invites are about to go out so I am sure the true stalking will begin then!
My second shower is now planned for March 25th! :)
Happy Monday. :) I have today off from work. :)
I'm planning to start the 3rd trimester thread sometime this week if that's ok with everyone.
Haverty's delivered a new dresser and it had even more spots on it - at that point they declared it part of the finish. So we decided to keep the original dresser. I still like it and the spots are very minor. So after that I put in some drawer liners and started putting things away after I washed them.
DH hung up the valances in the nursery and they look great.
I found out yesterday that my crib and changing table still haven't been ordered. My in-laws are buying them for us and its in one particular person's hands to order it and she just hasn't had time in the past 2 weeks and hopes to do it this week. :eek: :rolleyes: This is going to drive me up the friggin wall! Oh well, I'm seeing a bunch of them this Saturday and hope to hear good news by then. And I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all arrives in under the estimated 6wks.
We've started test driving family cars. A minivan is what we need to meet our longterm needs but its too expensive so we're looking at the smaller SUVs. It gives us more room than our tiny 2 door cars and it becomes legal for the dog to travel in the "trunk." Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks we'll be buying one.
QOTD - I haven't been stalking my registry but shower invitations go out this week so I will probably start after that. We did update our registry this week to add more stuff. We only had the big things on there.
Jane&Andy - We put Sally in the "trunk" area of my Jeep and she does great. I think she likes it better back there because it's much easier for her to sit or lay down.
Sorry about your crib and changing table not being ordered yet. Hopefully they will get it ordered for you this week!
I'm here at work early so I can leave early for class tonight. We don't get MLK day off. At least traffic was light though. Is anyone else starting to feel more tired? I think my energy from the 2nd trimester has worn off and now that it is getting more uncomfy to sleep I am more tired and cranky. Poor DH!
Jane that is really so annoying about your other furniture. I like the deal we have. We can order and whoever is buying just sends us a check for it. makes it much less stressful. Sounds like we are all in bigtome nesting mode so I can understand completely how you just want it ORDERED already
QOTD I peak at our registry which is so silly because I know no one has bought us anything off it yet! We'll get our gifts after the baby comes.
Our computer crashed on Thursday so I was without my email and internet until last night. I was going nuts! Luckily we got someone in to restore our hard drive and so far from what we can tell we did not lose anything. Just makes you realize how addicted you are to the internet :o We ordered the crib on Saturday! We ended up getting it at Buy Buy Baby. It was on sale for $199 and we had a 20% off coupon which worked out well. The crib has a drawer underneath which something we find convenient with Dylan's crib. Just did not like the ones I had posted here when I saw them in person. They did not feel as sturdy. So we are excited to have another item checked off of our "to do" list!
The nursery is officially ready for our furniture to be delivered! DH and I spend ALL weekend cleaning out the second bedroom and garage in order to get the room ready for when the furniture is delivered in 4-6 weeks! We also ordered our Dutailier glider this weekend! That will take 12-14 weeks (nothing like cutting it close)!
QOTD: I am officially stalking my registry now. The invites for my first shower are out and 2 items have already been purchased! :)
When does the 3rd trimester actually start? Week 27 or 28?
Uh, I’m again so behind… With the start of the semester and some not-so-good news (nothing to do with the baby!), things have been hectic lately. DH was on the market for a new job, but looks like it didn’t work out this time around. We were heart-broken. DH took it very hard, poor man… We had hoped that with his new job I could SAH for the fall semester, so now we’re trying to see if that is still possible. Also, had another appointment last week and though everything looked good, I really, really did not like the doctor. So that makes 2 out of 3 doctors I’ve met so far whom I seriously dislike and don’t want anywhere near me at the delivery. DH is worried about changing practices so late in the game, but I’m looking into it.
Anyway, the main thing is that the baby seems to be doing good; he is moving a lot and kicking up a storm. He likes my ribs though… :rolleyes:
Also, I've gained 18 lbs so far -- oh well... it all *seems* to be in the belly, though I seriously doubt my not-so-small bump weighs 18 lbs...
Mel Cool wall letters and such a cute coming home outfit! I've bought some newborn size onesies and 2 footed pj sets, but will concentrate on 0-3M sizes from now on.
Jane Congrats on getting the valances up -- your nursery looks so done! Sorry about all the stress with Haverty's, the stroller and the crib -- I'm sure it'll all work out! Oh, and I've read great things about Zoopers on these boards!
Sal Yay for your dad buying the crib and the mattress! Have you seen that sleigh-style crib from JCPenney's in person? Was that the one that did not feel sturdy? I'm still agonizing over the crib choice...
MMH Love the furniture and the bedding -- you'll have a very elegant and pretty nursery! Yay for ordering the glider and getting the room all ready!
Sevilla Hooray for passing the GTT! If it's not too much trouble, could you PM me the hospital tour questions? I could really use some inspiration!
Sully Congrats on the stroller and a great appointment -- you rock, mama! :)
relly How exciting to start the classes, wish mine would start now as well!
Kopper Your class sounds like fun! I'd also be worried about leaving the baby -- make sure to double-check with the hospital! Oh, and I definitely get tired more easily these days.
Jeeplover Oh dear, sorry about PUPPS... :(
Jennifer Such a cute photo of Caden -- makes me want to hold my baby even more!
SaphirimalMei So sorry about the scare -- glad you're doing better now!
Bri That's such a beautiful dresser!
Gina Awesome ultrasound photo and hooray for the girl confirmation!
LittleStar I'd echo the suggestion to start registering on-line -- so much easier and faster! Sorry about the frustrating appointment; my doctor's office makes us wait every time as well -- never less than 45 minutes...
Txfish I'd be *really* ticked off if my maternity leave was compromised -- hugs to you and hope it'll all get sorted out soon!
Cagey Love your crib -- do you mind if I ask who's the manufacturer? Oh, and I had a co-ed shower -- it was so much fun, I definitely recommend it! And, by the way, the guys had a blast playing the "dirty diaper" game, so you could definitely incorporate some games and stuff, if you like! :)
Have a great day, everyone -- I'm stuck at work... :(, but maybe I'll have time to do some on-line crib research later! ;)
Quick update on our bedding. I got our PBK order on Friday and LOVED the French Rose bedding. I took it over to BRU to put it in a cherry crib and I LOVED the combination. The other bedding was just too plain. I am very excited about our bedding choice!
MMH glad you love the bedding. I knew it would look good with the cherry. such a pretty combination
uskiku 18 pounds is FINE. think about it - you are more than halfway done. even if you gain another 18 pounds (which you won't) that would still only be 36 pounds which is not terrible at all. We never ended up seeing the JC Penney crib in person, it was one of the Delta cribs at Baby Depot I did not like.
I am back already to report that :( :( :( I failed my one hour. :( :( :( I am so upset. I did not fail with Dylan but somehow I had a feeling I would this time. UGH! So now I have to go kill next Saturday morning with the three hour. And she said I JUST failed which makes it even more annoying. But she also said I am pretty anemic which also shocked me. SO now I need to take iron pills. I have been trying to cook healthier with less red meat and I guess maybe that has not been a good idea!
Oh, what a bummer, Sal!! Take care of yourself and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the 3-hour one! Thanks so much for the crib comments; I'm still ambivalent about the JCPenney crib (if only I could see it in person!)... And you're too sweet re: weight gain :) -- actually, that's what the nurse said as well, that 18 pounds is not bad at all. I'm just slightly worried since I noticed that in the 2nd trimester I've been going at the steady rate of 1 lbs per week... I do exercise; I don't eat more than usual; my snacks consist of apples and carrots -- where is all this weight coming from?!
I had my one hour GTT this morning. The stuff wasn't too bad. They put ice in it so it was really cold. I was starving by the time we got done though. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow so I should know by then what the result are. Tomorrow I think i'm getting my Rhogam shot. So, fun fun!
Question: what's the relationship between being anemic and red meat? I haven't really eaten red meat since being pg. it taste awful.
Weight gain: 2nd trimester, i've been gaining 2 lbs per week. :eek: And my first pregnancy strech marks popped up yesterday. They're on the lower part of my tummy. :(
We've decided on a name for baby: Mackenzie Lynn
SaphirimalMei
01-16-2006, 11:26 AM
briamcd: red meat does have plenty of iron in it, so it's a good source for those who already eat red meat. I know there are a lot of veggies that have iron in there, so I'm sure you can make up for it elsewhere if red meat is not sounding good. Cute name for your DD!
Sal - Gah! on failing the 1hr. I failed the 1hr with DD and passed the 3hr. I'm kindof expecting to do the same this time. I LOATHE the 3hr. :(
Weight Gain: 8lbs
Nursery: I'm jealous of all y'alls nurseries! Yobito still doesnt have a place to sleep. Hopefully we'll figure this out before he gets here!!! :p
I have been out of town working on our other house in MA so that we can rent it out. We got home last night, really early this morning at 1:30 am! Luckily I was able to sleep in until 10:30-the only good part about not working right now!
Registry Peaking: I have been changing our registry quite a bit and I know the invites haven't gone out so I don't feel so bad!
1 hour Glucose Test: I am supposed to go to the lab this week and had originally planned on going in today but considering I have been eating salt water taffy like it is going out of style there is no way I am going in today! I figure I will go in tomorrow or Wednesday.
Nursery Update: We got a changing table/dresser combo this weekend. It was on sale at a store near our house in Boston for only $90! We had originally planned on not buying a combo piece but the price was too good to pass up. Here is one that is similar:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0006ZP4AK.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
The difference is that ours is made of pine and is a natural color.
Next thing is to find our crib-maybe this weekend!
Back Pain: My back has been killing me but I think it is the result of sleeping on an air mattress for the last 4 days and 2 days of sitting in a car for 10 or more hours (FIL doesn't believe in stopping when driving long distances)! I was in such agony last night on the ride home but thankfully today it isn't bad at all! The worst part is that I still have to make the drive to MA at least twice more before the baby is born!
PUPPPs: Thanks for all the sympathy on this. It hasn't been as bad lately meaning that it is clearing up on my back but still pretty bad on my belly!
Baby Movements: He loves to move when I am getting ready to sleep or have just laid down! DH has felt it alot and can't believe how hard he is kicking me. Alot of time the baby is both kicking and punching me at the same time-REAL FUN!
Strollers/Car Seat: Still no decision on this one. We haven't really had time to look at our other options but I do need to find out if our cars are equipped with the LATCH system since I have no idea!
Job Situation: I can't remember if I mentioned this in here but I went on an interview last Tuesday and on Wednesday I was offered the job! It is 30 hours a week which is a little more than I wanted but at least it is a paycheck not sure what will happen after the baby is born but I do need to start looking at the cost of daycare to see if it will be worth it for me!
I am sorry for not doing SO's but I really should be starting to clean and organize baby's room since we have the first piece of furniture! YEAH!
Hi ladies! I hope you all had wonderful weekends.
I had my one-hour GTT this morning and while the drink itself wasn't bad at all (like a sweet flat coke with ice), I felt terrible about 15 minutes after I drank it. I was very faint and nauseous. Yuck! I hope, hope, hope I passed because I can't imagine having to do that again. It was awful. Hopefully they'll have my results at my appointment tomorrow (I took it at a local medical center/lab).
I've had a terrible pain today in my lower right abdomen. This has happened before and I think it's just a pulled muscle or ligament or something but it's starting to drive me crazy. I pushed on it a few times (where the pain is) and the baby kicked me back. So I know he's just sitting on something that's causing the pain and it's driving me bonkers. MOVE already! :)
usuiku - Your SOs are so impressive. I'm so bad at that! And frankly, I'm just too uncomfortable right now to even try. I'll start with a few though...
jeeplover - I love the dresser and what a deal!!
Sal - SO sorry about the GTT test. Of course, I might be with you tomorrow!
brianmcd - Beautiful name!
Have a great Monday! I have my weekly appointment tomorrow afternoon; I'll be sure to let y'all know how that goes.
Sully Thanks! I admit, I'm driven by guilt -- and I take notes whenever I get behind like this! ;) About the pain: whenever my little boy's movements/postion hurt me like this, I try to gently massage/rub the painful spot and talk to him softly. He seems to respond to touch and sound, as he almost always changes positions!
Jeeplover great deal on the combo!
Bri That's a beautiful name! :) Sorry about the stretch marks :(
Jane – glad your dresser is all sorted out, good luck with the crib and changing table.
Sal – sorry you failed, good luck on the 3 hour.
I'm back from St. Louis. It was a lot of fun, but 6 hours in the car isn't good for a pregnant woman's back or bladder!
Jane - I'm glad they could get you a new dresser, but it's too bad they couldn't find you one without spots. Hopefully your crib and table will arrive early. Good luck car shopping!
Kopper - I am tired all the time! I think it may be from chasing a toddler around, but if I don't get a nap during the day I have trouble making it to bedtime.
MMH - We have a Dutailer glider and I think it took forever to get parts of it in. We took the actual glider home from the store, but the upholstered parts seemed to take a long time. Which one did you get?
uskiku - Sorry about your DH's job. Sounds like you had a great shower!
briamcd - Very pretty name!
Sal - Sorry about having to take the 3 hour. :( It's no fun at all. Both times I took it were the longest 3 hours ever! You'd think they could figure out an easier, less miserable way to test.
It's sad that it's not even 8:30 and I am ready for bed. Unfortunately there is a load of laundry to do first.
Good morning all.
jeeplover - great deal on the combo unit! yay for a new job!
Briamcd - yay for picking a name! :) I have stretchmarks too. :(
Sal - good luck with the 3hr test
MMH - I'm glad you like the bedding and yay for ordering the glider. As far as I know the 3rd trimester starts at 28w. Thats what I've been told here and my books say that as well.
uskiku - I'm sorry your DH didn't get the new job. So far I only dislike one doctor in my practice and its not a strong dislike - he's just not very personable. How many doctors are there in your practice all together?
Jennifer - I got stuck staying up last night waiting on laundry too. I really need to buy a second set of sheets for my bed! Glad you had a nice trip.
We did more car shopping yesterday. I now know where the bathrooms are in all of our local car dealerships. We're trying to decide now between the Honda CRV and Subaru Forester. We'll probably buy in the next few weeks.
I'm having a people over Saturday for a tupperware party and then my in-laws are sticking around to celebrate MIL's birthday. So I need to make some progress with my cleaning and organizing this week. Things always get messier as we empty out closets and try to organize and we're still in the middle of that.
My SIL is getting ready to send out my baby shower invitations. :) I just changed the convertible car seat on my registry from the Marathon to the Roundabout since we're looking at smaller cars. I looked up the child car seat laws in MD and NC (where I hope to move back to sometime soon). In MD its 6yrs and 60lbs and in NC its 8yrs and 80lbs! Holy cow! That seems excessive! So if we're in NC by then I'd need a booster seat after the Marathon anyway and by then I'm sure I'd want something smaller. That marathon is enormous!
BRU is driving me a little nuts. I'm still annoyed by the stroller fiasco and now they've had my symphony in motion mobile unavailable for probably at least a month now. I'm leaving it on my registry anyway in case it ever resolves but Target has the same mobile in their store for the same price so at least I know I can find it somewhere.
Joey has been very active lately. DH felt some really strong kicks this weekend and was quite impressed.
Thanks, Jane, Jennifer and relly, for sympathizing with DH! He's doing better now, but still has these "dark" moments when he's depressed about the situation. Poor guy :(
Jane They have 6-7 doctors in that practice and whoever is on duty when you go into labor will deliver your baby. I know that the chances are that I won't get these 2 I dislike, but with my luck... :rolleyes:
Sorry about the continued BRU woes!
Just got back from my first class, and the baby was having hiccups throughout it! It was too funny, though I wonder if the students noticed it (hope not!) :D
Jane&Andy
01-17-2006, 08:08 AM
Going back a ways, thanks girls for all the input and links for the Combi carseat/stroller situation.. very annoying, and I'd like to just have it over with now.
I have ended up with hardly anything on my registry at BRU, because I want all these random things... I have a total off-registry registry LOL The carseat, stroller, slings, hooter hider... I swear, half of my stuff. At least I have finally gotten myself together and really picked out the bedding, and I'm not going to change my mind again. No, I swear. We'll do the Honey Bees (Wendy Bellissimo). At least THAT'S at BRU... I'm a little concerned that the black will look funny on the cherry crib, but it's really the one we like best, so it'll have to do. I don't think it will be too bad.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009DPRCO.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
We also picked out our chair this weekend, and need to get MIL to order it. She's using a store credit from Lane Furniture, so we couldn't get the real "nursery" glider that we wanted, but we ended up choosing a rocking recliner in microsuede in the pale yellowy-green -- they do have some "gliders" that are recliners, but none of them came in any kind of decent fabric (well, chenille is great, but very hard to clean for a nursery) or color. Yech. This one will work great I think.
uskiku, sorry you don't like 2 of the dr's -- hope you'll end up with a better one at the time. (This is the one time where I really fantasize about inducing... imagine getting to schedule exactly when and with WHOM you'd like!)
Sorry for eveyone having to do the 3 hour GTT -- I did my 1 hour Friday and don't have results yet, so my fingers are crossed, although I'm not really worried. There was a woman in the next exam room for her 28 week also, and you would not have believed we were due the same time. She was absolutely huge -- I mean, her belly had to have been a full foot out in front of her; full on waddle and everything. I would have thought she was due tomorrow. She of course looked at me (while getting our blood drawn together) and obviously thought I was a whack job for getting my GTT done at 10 weeks LOL Don't let that no belly thing fool you, though, because I've gained about 15 or 20 pounds.
I am starving (what was that about weight? :rolleyes: ).. off to lunch!
Jane&Andy
01-17-2006, 10:06 AM
TXfish - I have the same non-BRU list issue. They don't even sell the Roundabout car seat with the cover I want for it. Oh well, I'll just wait and see what happens with my registry. My shower is going to be very small but I've been really lucky to get a lot of handmedowns from my sisters.
Hi all! Not really on CC anymore but I wanted to check in for the third trimester. Sounds like everyone is doing ok aside from the nasty GD tests. UGH.
I stopped puking around 20 weeks or so and have almost caught up to my pre-pg weight. This baby is definately smaller than #1.
Had my GD screen which was fine and we will be scheduling my CS at my next appointment (Jan 31)
Jane- we have two Subaru forresters. They outshine just about every car in their class in safety ratings. In fact I think they were one of only five SUVs that passed some new test they just came out with (whiplash?)
We looked at the CRV too but it didn't have the cargo space we were looking for. I think it just looks bigger because its higher- does that make sense? Also the things that come standard on the Forrester were upgrades on the CRV which didn't really make them apples to apples when it came to the bottom line. But I am sure you can't go wrong either way. :)
BTW if anyone is one LJ I have the same username ;)
01-17-2006, 10:56 AM
Jakedog! its so good to hear from you. I'm so glad the puking finally stopped. Thanks for the car input. I get the impression from DH that he is leaning towards the Subaru. I really really like how well it drives and its really well rated too. DH is planning to look up the more recent Consumer Reports info on both cars (we found the 2005 ratings at the library). I did notice how many things come standard with the base Subaru that are optional in other vehicles.
How well have your carseats fit in it?
I'm jane52403 on LJ. I'll friend you. :)
Hi everyone,
We had such a busy weekend! But it was fun it was all for the baby. :D DH and I are very very fortunate that both sides of grandparents wanted to buy all the big ticket items for us. My MIL bought us our crib and mattress on Saturday. We got the Pali crib in the Denise design. We're picking it up this weekend. Then yesterday I went shopping with my mom and she bought us the infant car seat and stroller. I went with the the Peg Perego Venezia in Toffee for both. We ended up with the 2006 model for the car seat as well, which doesn't need a separate base.
So we got lots of goodies this past weekend! We just need to get going on moving the stuff and clearing out the last of the stuff from the 2nd bedroom. I'm hoping it will get done by the end of next month, since we have to move a queen size bed out and move a 6 drawer dresser in (which is my changing table).
Hope everyone is doing well. I go for my 1 hour GT test tomorrow. do i have to fast for it or is it ok to eat? I'm not soo worried about drinking the yucky stuff, I'm pretty sure I can handle it.
Gina - when I took my GD test the instructions said not to consume any sugar the day of the test and not to eat or drink anything for the 2hrs before the test.
yay for getting lots of baby goodies!
Hi Gina, congrats on all the goodies! I'm right there with you on needing to clear out badly... we still have to get rid of the Bowflex & office desk before we can paint. Our changing table has been living in a corner of the guest room and the crib pieces are wedged in the closet...
On the GTT, you can eat whatever until you get there, but cannot eat or drink anything once you've had the drink, for the hour until they do the blood draw. I just wouldn't eat any candy bars or cokes before you get there!
My instructions said that i couldn't eat or drink anything except a little water for 2 hours before drinking the orange glucola, and then nothing for the hour between drinking the glucola and them drawing your blood. Otherwise your blood sugar reading might be off b/c your body might be responding to the sugars in other foods you ate in addition to the high dose from the orange drink.
Wow you guys all got instructions prior to your GTT's! I didn't! It didn't go well with me because I have to go to a lab for all my bloodwork and I signed in like I normally. When they finally called my name 40 minutes later the woman basically yelled at me because I didn't tell her sooner that I was there for the GTT! So I had to chug the drink (nasty) and then wait for the hour so I was there for almost 2 hours! Thank god I brought a word search book with me since normally I wait whenever I go there!
I should pass but who knows since my dad does have adult onset diabetes but is non-insulin dependent!
they sent me home with my drink so I drank it 30min before my appt time and then had to tell the receptionist when I got there. They gave me a nice print out of the instructions and I kept reading it over and over again b/c I didn't want to mess up and have to retake the test.
jeeplover - my Dad was an insulin-dependent (juvenile) diabetic. But so far my sisters and I have all passed each time (5 pregnancies between the 3 of us).
Jane-Thanks that is good to know! I know the reason for the GTT for some women in pregnancy is due to heredity so that is the only concern I had but knowing you have a family history of it also makes me happy!
Beautiful bedding, Txfish!
GTT instructions I'm taking mine tomorrow :( -- since I have an afternoon appointment, I was told to eat a light lunch, not to eat 2 hours before the test and avoid apples and orange juice. I love apples, so tomorrow is going to be a hard day for me... sigh...
usiku: I'm so sorry you've had a bad experience with two of the doctors. Changing practices is totally worth it if they make you uncomfortable--i know women who have changed late in the game and were *so* thankful they did b/c it had a big impact on their birth experiences. Is there anyone you know that you can get recommendations from? And even if you are stuck with this practice remember that if you have an OB they will only be there at the very end, like the last 15-30 minutes, and hiring a doula might help too. My midwife will be with me throughout the whole labor, so it was extra important to me that i feel comfortable with her.
I'm back from my appt. I failed my one hour GTT and have scheduled my 3hr for Tues, Jan 24th. The limit is 140, and I had 142. :mad:
No one in my family has diabetes that I know of, but my mom did have gestational diabetes when she was pg with my brother. and she was not tested when she was pg with me.
Txfish I have seen that bedding there and love it! I am sure it will look beautiful with the cherry
briamcd that stinks :( obviously I can sympathize!! you failed by 2 points, I failed by 4 points. SO ANNOYING. at least that means we are pretty guaranteed to pass the 3 hour but that does not make it any more fun to deal with.
I just read in one of my books that 50% of the women who get GD have no risk factors at all and it does not matter if you had it in one pregnancy to the next. All I know is that I am ridding my house of any junk and am eating SO well next week! Then that night I told DH he has to bring me in anything I want for dinner (have not decided yet) and a Friendly's sundae :p
Oke doke, I just heard back from my dr office and they said I could eat, just not anything too sweet. So, I'm to eat my normal breakfast cereal and a 1/2 bagel. Thanks everyone for the input!
Sorry to hear you didn't pass briamcd!
Wow, I am so behind!
MMH - I love the rose bedding, glad you liked it in person. You nursery is going to look so classy with the bedding and cherry furniture!
Jane - We registered for the Roundabout as well for my Jetta. It stinks that BRU has so few choices for colors
Sal - OMG, Friendly's!! I so miss living up north sometimes!
briamcd - Sorry you failed the test :( I'm sure you will pass the next one since youre so close!
1 hr test - I have mine next Tues and wasn't given any instructions either, weird.
Weight - I have gained 17lbs at 26w4d. I feel like that is a lot, but I have been doing everything I can to avoid extra lbs. I also saw a bunch of my college friends this past weekend and they all said I looked like I had only gained in my belly. I felt better, but still :o
QOTD - SAH - Is anyone able to SAH but choosing to work? I am not sure what I want to do. We just found out DH will be deploying in Aug/Sept, so I think working may be a lot with a newborn baby and no DH around, but I'm worried i'll feel bored and useless SAH.
Mel - If I had the choice, and was in your situation, I would not work. DH works a lot of hours, but he does still help out. I think that if I had NO help, I would easily get overwhelmed taking care of myself as well as schlepping DD back and forth from daycare 5 days a week, baths, dinner, packing the bag for each day, etc. When she was younger it wasnt as much of an issue as DD was basically inert and would stay where I put her. I could get more stuff done around the house (just moving her along with me) in what little time I had to do it. Now, it's much more difficult as she is a huge bundle of energy and into EVERYTHING. But admittedly, this pregnancy is kicking my ass in the exhaustion department, so I may be biased :p
mel7dog-I probably will be able to stay at home but since I just got this job I might wait it out a little to see how things go and of course the cost of daycare is a big factor for us. You might want to try out working with the baby in daycare but since your DH will be deployed I think you might be right about a lot for you. How long will he be deployed for or does he not know?
Hi all. Just got back from my weekly appointment not too long ago. Thank goodness I passed the GTT (with a 113; the dr was surpised it was so normal in spite of my constant bedrest...since I can't burn calories). I did want to add to the conversation about directions for the GTT. I asked my dr. before I went if I needed to fast and she said that was misinformation and the labs frequently (wrongly) send patients home for eating. She said the American College of OBs and something or another published a report saying it wasn't necessary. That said, I was careful not to eat anything too sugary before I went (including juice).
ginaandchris - For me, drinking it was easy...it just made me feel terrible! I hope yours goes smoothly!
~~~~~~
Oops, my dinner just came (being in bed, I eat whenever food is brought to me!). But quickly I'll say that my appointment went very well. The baby is growing well in lots of fluid. We watched him suck his thumb today. He's so precious! :D Next week I get my first round of steroid shots (as a precaution) and start my twice weekly NSTs.
Anyway, I'll come back later. Time to eat!

Funny about the different directions for the GTT -- glad everyone chimed in, and now we know we all just have to make sure to ask! :) Sorry you have to do the 3 hr, bri.
Mel, I understand about feeling bored/useless without a job, but if I didn't have to work, I would definitely NOT. Especially as a "single parent" during the time dh is deployed... it's very hard. And of course, it's very hard to leave your baby at first -- I really wasn't comfortable with it until DD was about 6 months, and even then I wished I could be part-time. (Luckily, I didn't have to work those first 6 months, but I was doing it all by myself and for at least the first 3 months, about all I could handle just keeping up with her, nursing, cleaning, cooking -- and enjoying the time with her!! But please note that I am not very high-energy, so it may be much different for you.) I'd say give yourself a chance to keep busy with quick trips to the gym, Mommy & Me/"playgroup", maybe some volunteer stuff? Good luck with your decision!!
I'm off to get my sweet girl :)

Sal - I can't believe you have a Friendly's near you. All of the ones near us are gone. I worked there while in high school and college and I miss that place so much. I used to live on watermelon sherbert coolers! I am so jealous!
Mel - That is a tough decision. I love being at home. I was bored at the beginning because there wasn't a lot to do with a newborn other than run to the grocery or Target. When he was about 5 months, I started Gymboree classes and a mom's group. Now we're busy at least 3 days a week. Also, I couldn't leave Caden in daycare or with family. It was a personal decision for me, but I'm so glad I've been able to stay at home. I miss work sometimes and it was hard at first being lonely all the time, but now I don't regret it at all.
briamcd - Sorry about the GD test. Good luck at the 3 hour.
gina - Good luck with your test tomorrow.

GTT- When did everyone find out the results of their 1 hour GTT? I have a doctors appointment but not for another week and a half.

i failed mine so the Dr called the next day to let me know I failed and to schedule a 3 hr one. I'm assuming if I had passed they would have just told me at my next appt. As they say..no news is good news. :rolleyes:

Sully - so glad to hear you are continuing to do well.
jeeplover - my doctor only calls with bad news so I don't know how long the results take (since they didn't call).
Mel - I am sorry your DH is being deployed. I have 2 BILs being deployed soon. :( I know you are moving to a new area soon - do you have friends or family in that area? In your situation I'd probably want to stay home if I could but I'd look for Mommy groups, etc to help me get out and meet people.
briamcd - I'm sorry you didn't pass. Good luck with the 3hr test!
Nothing much new to report. I did pick up a nifty little drawer organizer at Target - it divides one dresser drawer into thirds - gives me compartments for socks, bibs and hats all in one drawer. :) I bought a little cart last week for extra shelves for the closet (instead of that neat little cubby hole thing I posted a while back). I've stacked towels and blankets on it. Now I just need DH to clear out the closet (he has another week and a half before a charity group stops by to pick up stuff).
I think we've decided on the Honda CRV. :)
I'm going to start working on the 3rd trimester thread during lunch. I'll post a link in here when its ready for posting. If I put CLOSED in the title then I have to get an FP mod to change it for me so I'd rather not mess with that.

Mel - It stinks that your DH will be deploying. When mine was deployed I worked so I wouldn't go insane with boredom. I didn't have a baby then though. If I had a baby I would have stayed home, but I'm choosing to stay home now anyway, so his deployment didn't really factor in the decision. If he was deployed again, after the baby arrived I would probably move home with my mom, but that's just me.

GTT- When did everyone find out the results of their 1 hour GTT? I have a doctors appointment but not for another week and a half.
Mine said results were available the next day and they'd only call if there was a problem. I still called to get my results b/c i wanted to know either way. I think the test has a very fast turn-around time so if you want to know, i say call!
Mel: I would honestly stay at home since your DH will be deployed. I think it will just be too hard to try and balane full-time work and temporary single parenting. Good luck with your decision!
Sully: That's so interesting about the GTT!
JaneandAndy: Yeah for a new thread!
I know i missed some people in here, this is a quick fly-by post b/c i have students taking a test and need to do an oral section with them now. Have a good day everyone!

I see that the new thread is starting, but I just wanted to reply to Mel in this one. There's a good chance my husband will be deployed (though probably only for two weeks at a time) after the baby comes. He's in the AF reserve but currently on active duty for training. His orders end March 16, so we are trying to extend those for a few months (at least) so we know we have health insurance (since I'm not able to work right now). I don't want to lose Tricare before the baby comes! Anyway, if I were you, I would not work. I might have to go back part time (if they'll let me) before he is off orders and I don't know how I'll handle it with a newborn. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. As for being bored, I spent 1.5 years not working while traveling with my DH for his last training and I was never bored. I met people in a similar situation (which was easier on or near bases of course) and there was always something going on. I imagine I'd be MUCH busier with a baby. Those are my thoughts...
jeeplover - I also got my GTT results in a day. Definitely call.

Thanks Ladies! If I don't hear anything by tomorrow I will call. I would like to know either way-that is just how I am.
Well finally made some progress in purchases for the baby. We bought a diaper bag last night at Target because yesterday on BRU it said that my diaper bag was unavailable. It was on clearance for $12.58, can't beat that! Also we have finally decided on our bedding:
http://webimgsrv.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/erez3/erez?src=webimages/images-misc/k/k_fg_construction_zone_m_1.tif&width=300&height=300&quality=90&sharpen=25
We bought a cute lamp with a bulldozer as the base this past weekend. Also I bought some hangers for all the clothes we have received so far, both gifts and hand me downs. I have already used 40 hangers and all the clothes still aren't hung up! No progress on the cleaning out of the soon to be nursery though. All the boxes in here are too heavy for me to lift so I have to wait for DH to do it.
Oh question on strollers, has anyone tested this stroller out in a store?

The Sit-n-Stroll 5-in-1 travel system I haven't seen it in a store around here and I was just wondering about it.

The new thread (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?p=480296&posted=1#post480296post480296) is ready. :D
I know its a bit early but I realized after I started it that if I didn't go ahead and open it now I'd be stuck updating both in the meantime, which is a bit of a pain. So the new thread is open and this one is now closed. I look forward to seeing everyone over in the new thread. :)
