Ack. Anyone have good templates? We bought supplies to just do the 'paper plates + post-it flags' system, but since I'm more of a computer-type person, thought I'd throw it out there.
I do have the knottie excel tool, but that's just who goes to what table, not how the seats are arranged around the table.
Anyone?

How formal is your wedding? Do you need to place exactly where people sit? I think it would be much easier just to have them assigned at a table. If you need more precise info for food choices you can always code the placecards so that the waitstaff would know what the guest had ordered.
Not sure that I helped. I have't seen anything other than excel and your paper method on seating charts.

I, too, have an Excel table schematic but I don't think it contains what you are looking for ... basically one tab contains a diagram of the room and tables and the other tab has a list of who sits at what table. The tab with the diagram has a table name that corresponds to the table names found on the "list" tab. The names were arranged so that the person reading the list would seat them in that order, in a clockwise direction.
Actually as I'm writing this I figured out what you're talking about ... and I remember wishing that I had planned this beforehand because my logic didn't transfer over to the person who was setting the place/menu cards at the tables. They needed something more explicit. My only suggestion would be to make a diagram on powerpoint and list the names around the table.
Sorry for the long winded reply :o

For what it is worth, I ended up doing a visio diagram. One summary diagram showing numbering and naming of tables and entire recepotion layout, and then one 'tab' for each table that showed where each person was supposed to sit (and their relation to the dancefloor). I then .pdf'd it and sent it to the coordinator.

I used these write on/wipe off sheets that I could safely post on my walls. Whenever someone RSVP'd, I'd put them on a running list on the wall, then we made each sheet into a table or two and wrote them up there. We were able to have a visual and move people around easily. I am not computer literate enough to have figured it out that way!!
