Hi, ladies! I hope everyone finds this new thread. :)
Many of you may already know about these two magazines, but I wanted to let everyone know that there are two great baby magazines that offer completely FREE SUBSCRIPTIONS. There's no catch. I've been getting them for a while now.
Here are the links in case you're interested: American Baby (http://www.americanbaby.com/) & Baby Talk (http://www.parenting.com/parenting/babytalk/channel)
QOTD: Does anyone else know of more free magazines or goodies out there? I've started tearing out coupons for baby stuff from magazines after noticing that the expiration date on many of them is later than our due dates. We're getting so close!

Wooo hooo!!! Brand new thread!!! Love it! You are awesome Janna!
QOTD-I registered on the Similac, Enfamil (I plan on breastfeeding, but just in case), Gerber, Huggies, and other websites like that. You can get emails on really good deals and free samples and whatnot.

Yea for the new thread.
QOTD I know nothing of free things...but I'm going to take all of your suggestions!

oooh, I love the new thread, thanks so much Janna :D :D :D
not sure about any freebies, other than those 2 magazines. I need to register at some different sites though, like aprilbride said... I've heard you can get lots of free samples and tons of coupons. definitely worth it.
diapers has anyone started stocking up at all? or are you gonna wait to see what kind your baby likes? I just read in Baby Bargains how, in the first 6 weeks alone, we'll need an estimated 600 diapers :eek: they suggest getting a 100 pack of newborn size and then 5 100 packs of size 1, or the next size up. Isn't that crazy? I can't believe that we're THIS close, and we need to start buying diapers! or at least think about it ;)

30 weeks, 5 days
Janna Thanks for the new thread!!!!!! It is nice to start fresh for our home stretch.
I am really annoyed, I downloaded pictures of the baby's room on shutterfly and it said they were uploaded and now there are no pictures??? We got the crib and change table on Saturday and they look really nice. We have an old house with oak trim windows, baseboards etc and the crib matches perfectly. My sister also gave us my nieces old crib bedding which is really cute. It is Noah's Ark theme. It is very colourful and looks really cute. She even had the old mobile with cute little stuffed animals. I will try to load the pics again tonight. So we saved a bunch of money on the crib and bedding......save money for all the diapers I guess.
We also picked up the playpen/bassinet (the Ocean Wonders) We put it in Jack's room for now but it will be in our bedroom for a couple of months. Every night I play the mobile near my belly so he gets used to the music. It is supposed to soothe them when they are born?
diapers So far we just bought a bag of newborns. My SIL says she has some diapers that her little girl has already outgrown for us.
Tonight I have to drop our car off for a check up and god help me, I will have an hour and half to shop at a huge mall across the way. Baby stuff here I come

Mrsbuw, good luck in the mall tonight ;) the nursery sounds really cute, I can't wait to see pictures. and I love that you're playing the mobile for him already.
I was a bit *alarmed* when I read how many diapers we'll go through in the first few weeks. the book did say not to open packages until you need them in case you need to exchange them for another size.
ok, it's not even 10 a.m. and I'm already bored at work :rolleyes:
Good morning everybody...love the new thread, Janna -- thanks so much!
This is much easier for me to get back into since I missed a week and a half due to travelling in the old thread. :D
It's amazing that we're in the third trimester!
Question for you all about trouble sleeping...I can fall asleep fine, but I've had several nights where I wake up say around 2 or 4 and lay there for an hour and a half. Then I'm so hungry from being awake that I go get a bowl of cereal, and then I finally fall back asleep. Is this middle-of-the-night waking happening to anyone else? Any tips?
The only thing I've found that works is that I try to keep my mind really quiet. When I get up to pee or whatever, I don't let myself start thinking about things. This actually seems to be helping but just wondering if anyone else has any strategies!

Diapers My friends and SIL all said to stock up on the diapers. I do have a half used package of diapers that someone gave to me and that is all. I'm going to see if we get any for our showers and then go out and buy some more along with a bunch of wipes. I've been told we will go through tons of those as well. It is quite alarming how many they say you will go through...and the other thing is that we have no idea how many we will go through in the one size. Maybe I will buy them and make sure we are in the exchange period. Eek...we should be, because most are 90 days and I have 68 days until the baby is born!!!!!!! :eek:

trouble sleeping Some nights yes, but generally no. I do not allow myself to fully wake up to go to the bathroom so generally I have no problem falling asleep after. The nights that are bad are when I am having some of my severe back pain. Those are always fun nights! But I have been told that soon it will be basically impossible to sleep. I can't wait!
Breathlessness Ok...I have no torso what so ever, the joke is that I am a long legged 5'3", DH and I have the same length legs and he is 5'10". So today I am having a horrible time breathing, just don't feel I am getting adequate air so therefor I start to feel a little dizzy due to the lack of air. I feel much better if I lay on my left side, which is not the easiest thing to do while I'm at work. Anyone else having this?

I'm here!! I love the new thread!! We're coming down the home stretch ladies!!
I have been sick the last few days with a sore throat and yesterday, a low grade fever :eek: My throat is feeling better today and so I came in to work, but I'm still feeling so wiped out! Hopefully as the day progresses, so will how I feel!
I am going to an open house tonight to check out a new daycare thats opening up very close to my house. It's more of an early education school than a daycare, but they do take infants, so it's worth a look.
We have our second go around for my 3D/4D u/s on Thursday 9/29. Last time we couldn't really see anything because she was in the breech position. FINGERS CROSSED THIS TIME!!
Our crib and bedding got delivered on Saturday!! The nursery is starting to come together but it's not quite there yet :) I will post pics when it's all complete!
OK, thats my update for now..I'll be back later to do some shoutouts.

Trouble sleeping That was me the last couple of weeks but the last few days have been pretty good.
Breathlessness not that bad, sometimes when I over do it or go from the basement to the second floor I start to pant

Love the new thread -- thanks janna!!
breathlessness -- I have a long torso and the baby is pretty low, so I haven't had too many problems breathing unless I'm in a squishy chair/couch and I can't sit up properly. Lying on my side definitely helps though if I ever do feel breathless.
sleep -- I can normally fall back asleep pretty easily, but last night was rough. Didn't get a lot of sleep -- woke up around 2 am and it took a long time to fall back asleep.
jaycee -- I hope you feel better! I've been gaggy still, but haven't thrown up since Saturday.
diapers -- I have thought about buying diapers. But I do want to see what kind works for our baby before I go and buy a whole bunch. I have about $70 that I've received as gifts from various showers that I'm planning on using for diapers, but I haven't bought them yet. I'll probably get one package of each (huggies & pampers) and see which one works the best.

I'm so glad everyone likes the new thread! :) Try to check the front page every now and then to see if I've updated or added something new (like more links).
Breathlessness: Yep, I've been experiencing this for quite a while. I've even been getting breathless when lying down lately. I just feel like everything inside of me is squooshed, and I'm not getting enough air. I've also been feeling kind of stuffy lately... more than usual. I read that it's normal during pregnancy, though.
Sleep: I rarely get a good night's sleep. I get excited if I only have to go to the bathroom three times during the night! Sad, huh? It's my own fault. I drink tons of water during the night, so I have to go to the bathroom almost once an hour. I have a hard time going back to sleep sometimes, though. I just toss and turn. I'm also waking up more lately because my shoulder or hip feels sore.
Diapers: Our next-door neighbor just recently had quadruplets, so she keeps sending over extra diapers that they've grown out of. I'm going to wait to buy some b/c I want to see if anyone gives me diapers at my shower on the 15th. I also worry about buying too much of one kind only to find out that they suck. I have heard/read that Pampers Swaddlers and Pampers Cruisers are the best (for many babies). And I've also heard that Pampers Baby Dry diapers are good too. I haven't heard anything positive really about Huggies. Oh, and I've read that Pampers Sensitive baby wipes are the best (and softest).
Jaycee: Sorry you've been sick. :( Hope you continue to feel better!
Mrsbuw: Can't wait to see the nursery! I bet it looks great! :)

Maternity Pants: I'm looking for some new maternity clothes. Almost everything I have is from Old Navy, and I think I need to go up a size. Before I spend more money on clothes I have to return, I wanted to ask where you ladies buy your maternity pants. Do you have some black maternity pants that look cute and stylish? Where have your favorite maternity tops and pants come from? I love GAP, but there maternity clothes are a tad expensive. I wouldn't mind spending the money, but I don't get out much. If they have some really cute pants, though, I'll spend the money. Also, do you prefer the demi panel or full panel? With both styles, I end up having to pull my pants up every couple of minutes.
Jaycee
09-27-2005, 11:05 AM
Janna, I'm in the same boat but with maternity tops instead. They are all getting too short for my big belly. I find it hard to believe because I remember when I first started shopping for maternity clothes I couldn't believe how long everything was :D
I love GAP too, but we don't have a GAP maternity around here so I would have to order online and I'd feel much safer trying things on first. I also refuse to spend a lot of money this time, because I'm only going to get 9 weeks more wear out of them, give or take a week or two.
As far as pants go, I prefer the demi panel, but I know what you mean about having to pull them up all the time. At this point, with me and pants, I'm going for comfort before anything else, and if that means living with a full panel for the next 2 months, than so be it. 8 months ago, you would never have heard me say that!!! :eek:

Jaycee: I just started having the same problem with maternity tops! My belly is starting to poke out the bottom of them. Either that or the top doesn't cover the panel on my pants. :rolleyes: Where are you getting most of your clothes?

Janna - I totally dig maternity pants from the Gap. I have several pairs ranging from the no-panel, the demi panel, the full panel AND the roll-panel (my personal favorite now that I am getting larger...before I prefered the no-panel).
I have these roll panel ones in 2 colors and they look awesome on and are sooo comfy.
http://www.gap.com/Asset_Archive/GPWeb/Assets/Product/327/327401/main/gp327401-00p01v01.jpg
For black pants I just bought a gorgeous pair at Babystyle. They were a splurge, though, at $75.
Jaycee
09-27-2005, 11:18 AM
Oh yes, the roll panel. My favorite pair of pants, are a pair of roll panel cargo capris that I got from the GAP. (I just looked on the website and I don't see them anymore.
YES, my vote is for the roll panel as well.
I do have a cute pair of black pants from the GAP, they are the stretch boot cut pants, in a demi panel. My only problem is that I ordered them in a Long and they are too long, so I rarely wear them. BUT, I will start wearing them more now with the cooler weather so I can wear them with boots.

ETA:
I have been getting most of my clothes at Mimi Maternity, Pea in the Pod, and and also a small maternity boutique thats locally owned. I also made a couple of big online purchases from GAP Maternity at the beginning and middle of the pregnancy for a lot of the basics.

09-27-2005, 11:19 AM
Hehe I got most of my maternity clothes from my SIL closets. The only problem they both had spring /summer babies so all the third trimister clothes are summer tops etc. I can't complain though :rolleyes:
Roll vs full panel. I and the baby find the roll panel a bit uncomfortable. Anything tight on my lower belly and he starts to really move around. I tend to wear the full a bit more and they look oh so sexy
Same here with the tops, unless I am just wearing my pants to low I find my belly sometimes sticks out a bit.

Great job on the new thread Janna!
breathlessness: Nope, not really, unless I am not sitting up straight enough. Then I can feel the baby under my ribs and its REALLY uncomfortable. I do get out of breath much quicker though in terms of exerting myself on the stairs at work, etc.
sleep: Depending on what time I go to bed, some nights I'm up twice to pee, and other nights, not once! (Granted I wake up very uncomfortable!) If I go to bed before 10:30, I'll at least get up around 2 and again around 5 to pee. If I go to bed at 11 or after, usually I can make it through the night without waking up til my alarm goes off at 6:30. Ever since the discovery of Pepcid Complete, I have not woken up with reflux, thank God. e&d: even if I woke up hungry at 2-3 a.m., I couldn't eat then or I'd wake up with heartburn like you wouldn't believe. :(
diapers: I think I have 3-4 packages of Pampers Swaddlers. I've registered for more Swaddlers, plus some 1s and 2s, and the Sensitive wipes. I actually heard from a Mommy friend that the WalMart brand "Soft & Dri" (or something like that) diapers were even better than the name brand. I guess it depends on the baby. Every other time or so I go grocery shopping I try to pick up some diapers to stock up.
maternity clothes: The dress pants I wear the most come from Motherhood Maternity. They're stretchy and have lasted me since I was about 3-4 months. They go under the belly though. I hate those large panels. They make me hot and itchy. I think that's just me though. I have a pair of capris, a pair of jeans and a pair of khaki dress pants from Old Navy that I love. My mom just bought me a bunch of cooler weather clothes from JCPenney that I will be trying on this weekend when I see her. She said some of the stuff she wanted to get me was on backorder until the end of November - no point in getting it then!!! LOL Besides a jacket, a sweater or two, and a few more long sleeve casual shirts, I won't be buying anymore maternity clothes - we don't have much longer!

One more thing on clothes....
A couple of weeks ago, I went and bought 2 cropped blazers. One in a light tan, and another is a green khaki. I figured that with the cooler weather coming, I would be able to stretch my exsisting wardrobe out, by still being able to wear all of my cute maternity tanks, and sleeveless shirts by throwing the blazer over the top. It works!!

sleep ~ Ugh, last night was particularly bad - my vertigo is back w/a vengence so when I roll onto my left the whole room spins and I feel like I'm going to puke. Plus, I'm kind of p.o.'ed at DH right now and trying to get ready for this vacation next week so w/all of that, I barely slept at all. Lucky me, DD decided today was a good day to get up 1/2 hour BEFORE my alarm went off :rolleyes: can't be mad at that though - she's sooooooo cute in the mornings!
breathlessness ~ Not yet, but I seem to develop symptoms after I read about them on this thread :p ;)
reflux ~ See above comment - I have reflux now - boo hoo - definitely limiting my dinner options for sure. Luckily, a dose of ice cream a couple hours after dinner seems to help ;)
maternity clothes ~ I haven't really needed pants yet - it's still warm here. I have a pair of khaki and a pair of black low rise, no panel pants from ON, but I don't think they're going to fit well now. They're good for 1st and 2nd trimester, but I need some sort of elastic waistband for the next few months. I'm thinking about some of those roll panel Gap pants - do they come in lengths? That's my problem w/pants - I'm short so things are always too long.
diapers/wipes ~ For 'sposies I thought Pampers Swaddlers were the best - that little cut out for the cord was awesome! Plus, my DD didn't lose her cord for like a month so it came in handy. I like Huggies wipes better than Pampers though - they seem sturdier and don't rip apart in your hands. My SIL uses the Kirkland wipes from either Costco's or BJs and they are awesome too - really soft, but strong. All in all, we're basically a cloth diapering family so my need for disposables is somewhat limited. Basically, if they're on sale AND I have a coupon, I pick up a pack just in case. I have 2 packs of Swaddlers and I will probably buy 1 more, but that's it. Our hospital sent us home w/the pack of diapers they used on DD too. That's another tip for everyone - load of on the stuff at the hospital. Anything that's open, they can't reuse so take it w/you!!! This goes for diapers, Lansinoh, pads, etc.
Janna ~ Thanks for all your great work keeping this thread so organized and running smoothly :)

maternity clothes First, this is my shower outfit. I will be wearing it to at least one, not sure if I'm going to wear my cute skirt to the other or not...looks MUCH cuter on!
http://www.motherhood.com/Images/Products/0630.jpg
As for pants, I like the full panel or the roll panel. I have a hard time with the demi because my belly is SO low that it makes my poor belly seem naked and my shirts seem short, like my belly is out there for everyone to see. My favorite are the long and lean full panel cords from Gap

BFP: 4/18/05
EDD: 12/16/05
Gender Prediction: I think Boy, DH thinks Girl
Gender: Surprise (because labor and delivery won't be shocking enough)
sleep ~ Up two times a night, on average, to pee. Don't usually wake up all the way anymore. I think there are actually nights where I get up, go to the bathroom, wash my hands and go back to bed without fully opening my eyes. Putting a night light in the bathroom greatly helps with this - night time pit stops are far less disruptive when I don't have to blind myself with the bathroom light.
breathlessness ~ Absolutely. I've felt slightly winded for weeks now. Makes me sound like I have emphysema when I'm talking fast.
reflux ~ Not really, but I'm sure that will change.
maternity clothes ~ I got most of my clothes from my SIL's closet and from Target. I have a few dresses from Motherhood Maternity, but not many. My showers are scheduled for October 16 and November 22 and I have NOTHING to wear to either. I'm trying not to stress the issue, but it's not working.
diapers/wipes ~ Oh God - I have to think about buying diapers already!?!? Crap.
Janna - been reading along since April - the threads have all been great. Thanks!

I just lost my whole post. I could SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!
I am a sucker for clothes so having two showers was a great excuse to purchase 2 new outfits. :)
For 1st shower:
http://a940.g.akamai.net/7/940/449/0001/www.estyle.com/images/product/18004_MID_r.jpg
In black. I'm totally pissed b/c I just paid full price ay Babystyle and now it is on sale. Grrr. I need to see if they do price adjustments (hopefully over the phone since the store is 30mins away from me).
If it is cold I will wear a jean jacket or blazer over it (which I duobt will be the case since I am retaining tons of heat these days ;) )
Second shower:
http://www.babystyle.com/images/product/18053_MID_l.jpg
I'm going to wear this top with a pair of flowy, black, under the belly pants I also got at Babystyle (but aren't on the website).
I picked up this shirt too....couldn't resist! Of course I spent entirely too much money and now it is on sale too!

The new thread looks so good Janna! Thank you!! :D
I've been feeling breathlessness for awhile now. I'm only 5'2 so there really isn't much room for the baby to go.
I don’t even want to talk about sleep. I don’t go for more than an hour at a time at night without having to pee. I’m always tired.
My mom bought me a package of newborn diapers about a month ago. I think I'll wait till after my shower and see if we get any there. Then I'll probably stock up a bit. I'll probably do most of my diaper shopping at Costco and I'll get our wipes there too.
Most of my maternity clothes are from Old Navy and Gap. I have short legs so I've found that the Gap pants work well for me. I love the Long & Lean jeans. They are the best! I actually ordered another pair a week or so ago and they are supposed to arrive today. I've pretty excited about that. As far as the panel goes... I love demi or roll panel pants. I don't really like the feeling of having my belly covered with a full panel. I get hot and itchy.
Welcome happygolucky!!! :)
***
I had my one hour test this morning. I was totally prepared for the orange drink, but they gave me a lemon-lime one instead. It was like super sweet, flat Sprite. It wasn't so bad, but let's just say I won't be craving it anytime soon. I'm sure you all understand. They'll call by Friday if I failed and no news is good news if I passed. Also, blood pressure, weight and baby's heartbeat where great. That makes me one happy camper! Oh, and I have to start going in every two weeks now.
My next appt is Oct. 11. Thanks!

Kamileer - those clothes are ADORABLE. I hope you get the price adjustment!
By the way, my next OB appointment is 10/11. I have my blood glucose test then, too.
Ugh. My cat is grooming herself and the sound is grossing me out. Really. She's going "lick-lick-sllluuuurp! *smack!* lick-lick-sllluuuurp! *smack!*"
I thought cats were supposed to be quiet and dainty.

Have we talked about waddling yet? I am the queen of waddling all of a sudden.
Janna - Thanks for all your work on the new thread!!
Welcome happygolucky !!
Diapers - I have coupons cut, I am just waiting to see a good sale. I know Pampers is doing something were you get points on the diapers and can earn stuff. I think you just to the webpage to sign up.
Maternity Clothes - Most of my clothes are either ON or Gap. I only have on pair of pants that is roll panel. The rest are no panel. I am hoping I can get through most of the pregnancy with out needing more pants. I am carrying really high so the no panels are working fine now. I am very lucky to have a Gap clearance center not too far away so I haven't spent more than $5 on a pair of pants.
Shower Outfit - Not sure. I have liked some outfits on babystyle, but the one the skirt is no longer available. I think I am going to look this weekend.
Breathlessness - Not too bad. I am usually a fast walker and DH has to keep up with me, but he has commented on how I have slowed down.

You're just too good Janna! Thanks.
Breathlessness - I don't seem to get too breathless but sometimes when I'm lying down a certain way I feel like someone is pinching my jugulars (or is there only one?) and no blood is getting to my brain. I shift and then I feel like I'm getting more oxygen again. Oddly, it is usually when I'm lying on my left side.
Night awakenings - I usually wake up about once a night. I find if I get up, pee and have a snack almost immediately I get it over with right away. I try to keep the lights low and sometimes I'll read something for a little while before trying to go back to sleep.
maternity clothes - I bought three pairs of maternity pants at the beginning with no panel (jeans, khakis and black pants). They are all rebel which was the only brand I could find that were actually long enough. I bought them at a boutique. I bought a few shirts at Thyme maternity (Canadian store?) but have since outgrown most of them. With no panel and my shirts riding up it is pretty hard to look professional. I have since found a bunch of consignment stores in town and bought some new tops which has been great. It really ticks me off to spend money on clothes I know I'll only be wearing for a short while.
waddling - I don't think I actually quite waddle yet but I can tell my walk is changing. I seem to get belly cramping too when I walk - braxton hicks?
diapers - my dh and I stocked up on all the cloth diapers we should need for the whole babyhood. However, they aren't small enough for a newborn so we are going to have to buy some disposables until the baby is big enough. I don't want to buy too many though since I have no idea what size this baby is going to be. I don't know if I already mentioned that I found out my dad was an 11 lbs 2 oz baby. At that point, nothing newborn will fit.

waddle that is me...queen of waddling. I used to always walk fast too, and now I'm so slow...always making DH walk slower.
You know its weird, a good day consists of being exhusted and being breathless for me. I'm in such a good mood because that is all that is wrong today. Intersting how my perspective has changed!

Checking in to the new thread! Janna - It's a great new thread. Can I make just one little suggestion though? In the first post you list a table of contents by page. This is a great idea, exept that on CC the number of posts per page is configurable, so something that is page 3 for you could still be on page 1 for me. Maybe you could use post number instead of page number?
Maternity clothes - I've been wearing under the belly pants, but I can't take two steps without having to pull them up. It's so annoying, but I'm so trying to avoid panel "Urkle" pants. I haven't had any problems with my shirts yet (except for the ones where the "empire waist" cuts right across the middle of my boobs - I've avoided those since I started wearing maternity shirts)
Waddling - I'm not waddling yet, but I also still feel really small. I measured between 27 and 28 weeks at my 28 week appt last Friday.
diapers - I have not bought a single thing for this baby yet. We have one curtain panel up in the nursery (not even both panels to create a full window covering!). We still have to paint the nursery and like I mentioned before, our furniture is scheduled to come in about the time I'm due. Hence, no diapers here at all. My shower is this Saturday though, so I'm sure I'll start buying stuff after that (once I know what people have gotten us).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my glucose test last Friday. I'll only hear back if I failed, so I'm going with everything is okay.
I had a major toothache over the weekend - it started on Thursday and I was in huge amounts of pain all weekend long. And, of course, being pregnant, the strongest thing I could take was Tylenol 3, which didn't help much. I just kept thinking that labor couldn't be any worse than that tooth pain. I finally got my tooth fixed yesterday, but now the infection that was in the tooth is in my sinuses! So now I just feel crappy. I didn't sleep most of the weekend because of tooth pain, and now I can't sleep because of the nasel congestion and coughing. What I wouldn't give for some NyQuil!
Next appt - October 21 Then every 2 weeks.
Depending on how tired I am...I waddle without realizing it. But, usually at work when I have to be someplace or get something to someone - I'm walking at a normal pace. Someone said to me the other day, "You get around pretty good for a pregnant lady!" LOL
Flu shots - So this sinus infection I have drove me to the doctor's office today and there was a sign for flu shots. I've never gotten one before, but I know I should get one this year. When and where does one get a flu shot? Do I make an appointment with my regular doctor? Are you all getting one?
I am curious about flu shots too. I have an OB appt. this Friday and I am going to ask.
Flu Shots: I met with a different OB from my doctor's practice last week. I asked about the flu shot, and he said I definitely need to get one. He said it's for my benefit more than the baby's. I asked if the immunization "transfers" to the bay once he's born, and he couldn't answer that question. He also couldn't really answer whether or not it has any negative effects on the baby. I get a flu shot pretty much every year. The first time I got it, I actually got the flu! That sucked.
scarlett: Very good point about the page numbers! It never even crossed my mind. :D I'll fix that later tonight or tomorrow. How does one change how many posts are on one page anyway? I couldn't figure out where to do it.
Doc said both DH and I should get the flu shot. No real serious risk to the baby at all, apparently. Going to do a bit more research on that though.
December2005Mommies ~
I'm not sure exactly what day my ultrasound will be. I'll let you know when they give me the day.
Flu Shot ~
So far it hasn't been mentioned to me. I don't normally get them & I will not be getting one if the Dr. recommends one. I'm too freaked out about the Mercury affecting the baby. I'll just be careful about staying away from sick people I guess. It's not something I normally get (the flu) but I know our immune systems are weaker when we're pregnant too.
Waddling ~
I don't think so. Not really.. Maybe just a little. ;)
Night Awakenings ~
I've been waking up 1-2 times to go to the bathroom. This usually wakes my husband up too. :( Around 4:am I've been waking up & staying up for a couple hours :rolleyes: which is really annoying.
This morning I when it happened I wanted to wake my husband up & see if he wanted to *mmm Hmmm* "entertain" me..but I wasn't feeling like a wham bam & I didn't think he'd want to get too creative at 4:am..so I left him alone until 7 something. :p ;)
Diapers ~
Haven't really thought much about that yet. Part of me wants to cloth diaper..but don't know if/how that will be possible when/if we leave the country again. I might just end up with disposable's.. I do have one of those disposable diaper trash cans for the baby's room on the registry..so maybe I've subconciously made up my mind?
But as far as brands...no idea. I think in the past, Huggies were known to be crap. My best friend & I thought so when my Goddaughter was a baby.. but that was so long ago, maybe they're different now.
Breathlessness ~
I definitely have my times! I'm 5'4" and have a short torso...so there are times I just cannot get comfortable or breathe for the life of me. When this happens at night, I put my arms up above my head on the pillow. My husband suggested this & it works. Sounded weird at first but he's an athlete so he knows things like that & he was right.. So try it if you're having trouble breathing! :)
Welcome HappyGoLucky & Postkalidurga!!!:D
Someone asked when my husband is getting home...don't remember who..sorry :o I figure I'll get lost in one of these threads if I try to find out who... Anyway, he's been home now for about 3 weeks! He was able to come home early. Which is great with all of the work going on with the house. :)
Wow, I've been at business meetings, missed one day and there is a whole new thread and 8 pages to catch up on! :) janna Thanks for starting a new one, by the way!
maternity clothes I find Gap pants to be most comfortable. The roll panel isn't doing it for me, though. I wore a pair the other day and it kept rolling down tightly under my belly when I sat (which I do most of the day). I think my belly is just too big! I prefer the full-panel now. I had the same problem with none of my shirts fitting any more, so I stocked up on some cute ones that were on sale at Motherhood this weekend. I only have 11 more weeks left, but unfortunately need to dress nice most days for work.
diapers I haven't bought one pack yet. I figured I'd wait and see what I got at my showers before buying any.
breathlessness Not really- every once in a while. He does like to kick under my ribs all the time, though!
night waking After most trips to the bathroom, I'm still tired enough to fall right back asleep, but the 4:30 a.m. trip always kills me cause I"m half awake and the little one is kicking away at that hour. It usually takes me a half hour to an hour to fall back asleep and then I have to be up again! :) cookie I laughed out loud at your comment. That is the last thing my DH wants to do these days, never mind at that hour of the morning!! :D
flu shot I'm going to talk to my dr and see what she recommends, but I am pretty nervous about getting one. I never have.
shower outfit Haven't picked one yet, but curious to see what you ladies find.
waddling Oh yes. Feels like it started up in the last week.
Well, I just got good news today - I passed my one-hour GTT! :)
Maternity clothes-Most of mine are from my sisters and Old Navy. I was liking the half panel or roll panel ones, but they kept falling down, so I've resorted to the full panel pants. Not pretty, but more comfortable than having to hike up my pants every 30 seconds.
diapers-Haven't bought any yet, going to wait and see what we get from the shower first.
breathlessness-every now and then, especially first thing in the morning and at night.
night waking-Oh!!!!! We're supposed to sleep at night. I'm having the hardest time sleeping. I HATE sleeping on my sides so it's torture every night. That on top of the bathroom trip at least every 2-2 1/2 hours is just lovely!
flu shot-Hmmmm, hadn't even thought about it, that's something I'll ask my doctor about next Friday.
waddling-Not too bad yet. Mostly I do it when I have to go to the bathroom, the extra pressure makes walking weird then.
shower outfit-I FINALLY found something to wear to the big shindig!!
From Japanese Weekend:
The floral print has hints of pink and blue in it. It comes with little straps that you can use multiple ways, but I bought the shrug here:
aprilbride That is a really cute outfit! :)
QOTD Anyone starting to think about how you will raise your child (religion-wise) and baptism, etc.? I have two problems 1) We just moved and don't belong to a church and I have no clue which one to go to, but figure I better start soon and 2) I want to raise our baby Protestant (like me), but DH is Roman Catholic and wants to raise the baby Catholic. I said, "well, who's actually going to be the one to take him to church?!" :rolleyes: DH NEVER goes to church. I had to drag him there for our pre cana classes (we did get married in his Catholic church). I feel I should have more of a say in the decision, because I honestly can't envision him actually starting to faithfully go to church every week. Just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues.
Morning,
aprilbride2002 What a beautiful dress. I think my shower will be pretty low key so I will probably just wear my jean skirt and a nice top.
Kami Love your outfits too
Flu shot I haven't talked to my doctor yet but I don't usually get one nor does my husband
jengen Yeah for passing your GTT
Cookie777 That really sucks about your 4am wake ups. It happened to me last night. I was wide awake (so was the baby) and I feel asleep about a half hour before my dam alarm went off (6:45). Needless to say, today is a coffee day or at least half decaf half regular.
Yesterday I mentioned I had an hour and half to shop for baby stuff. Well that didn't happen. The car dealership said it would take 2-21/2 hours for the car so I just made DH drop me off and bring me back. I would have fallen asleep in the food court if I was stuck at the mall so long.
I finally have some pictures of Jack's room. We don't have anything on the walls or any toys etc just the crib and change table and playpen for now. It is a pretty small room but I think it will look really nice
jengen we cross posted again :D , I was just coming back for the QOTD. Thanks for the compliments on the room and on his name. I think we are 100% set on the name (I hope)
QOTD It is a bit of an issue not with us but with DH's parents. I wasn't raised with any religion and I am not overly spirtual. Dh on the other hand went to church every sunday from the time he was born until he was 15-16. He is from a huge Dutch family and they are Christian Dutch Reform (pretty much just protestant). They aren't fantatics but they still go to church, they always pray before dinner . I have offered to go to church many times with DH but he refuses. He is very spirtual but his views differ from the church. He had a wonderful childhood and has just come to realize that the church played a big part in it. All of his wonderful values and morals were taught in the church and it was also a social gathering as well. So in answer to your question......... I have no idea :rolleyes: Will we go to church, maybe once a month. Will he be baptised I don't know????
Mrsbuw - Great nursery.
aprilbride2002 - Beautiful dress.
QOTD - I was raised Catholic but got away from all religions in high school and college. Church going was important to DH, so I started going with him to his Methodist church. I actually like the community a lot (I'm still not sure about the whole religion aspect of it). So, we will get the baby baptized. We are going to try to use rain water from our wedding day for it, but we have to figure out how to make it really clean.
aprilbride Love that dress...it is fantastic!!!
Mrsbuw Love Jack's room, it is so cute!!!
QOTD Well I was brought up Catholic and DH was brought up Methodist. We are both from fairly religious familiies and want to bring our children up with religion. Big problem, we CANNOT agree on a religion. It has been a huge source of debate and we did get married in the Catholic church but that was tons of convincing and once he finally liked the priest (and knew that our mass would not be long) he was fine with it. So we have had these discussions over and over again and the only thing we can agree on, expose our children to both religions. They will go through the sacraments in the Catholic church but they will do things with Methodist church too. We are hoping this works because it is such a sore subject. BUT DH did say to me at one time that if Catholic wasn't so difficult to change religions too (like all the classes and stuff) he actually might consider it. I seriously was floored...because his mom taught him to dislike catholicisim (before me he hated Catholicism). Funny thing, there are three boys in DH's family and all three married Catholic girls. Go figure!!!
Awww, thanks ladies! I just hope I don't look too much like a beached whale in it!!
mrsbuw-Jack's room looks perfect!!! That's a great blue!!
QOTD-I was raised Catholic but converted to Lutheran with DH. So the baby will be baptized Lutheran. So I guess he'll be Lutheran.
I am jealous of those of you having luck with the Gap maternity pants. I think my bum has expanded too much for them to look good...I feel like all the ones I try on are totally tight in the bum and thighs and then flare ridiculously! I'm going to try Motherhood and even Target. I just need some good pants for work! :(
breathlessness hasn't been a huge problem for me so far, other than when I walk up stairs. :rolleyes:
I'm clueless on diapers and am impressed w/those of you already accumulating! I'd like to use cloth but I'm not sure of the feasibility of it depending on the daycare situation. (I've read most centers won't let you use them, but I think we may go w/in-home care.)
I've been signing up for the childbirth, newborn care and breastfeeding classes. I'm due Dec. 16 and signed up for a Dec. 8 breastfeeding class...I know this is cutting it close but otherwise I have to do it in early Nov. and I feel like I"ll forget everything by then!
QOTD:
We just mentioned this last night, actually. I told him we needed to start going to church so we had a place to baptize the baby! We've been church hopping ever since we moved here, but never have settled anywhere. DH grew up Methodist and was sprinkled/confirmed, etc. I grew up Baptist and was "dunked". I understand the symbolism of the sprinkling, etc, and am fine with raising him in the Methodist church. It just depends on what church we find that we like...we'll see. We'll only be living here for another 8 months or so after the baby is born so I don't know how involved we will get - who knows.
aprilbride that dress is beautiful. You're going to look gorgeous at your shower and nothing like a beached whale! Stop with that kind of talk!!
Mrsbuw Jack's room turned out great! The wood looks like an exact match.
I haven't decided on a shower outfit yet, but mine isn't until the beginning of Nov. so I have lots of time. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all come up with so I can copy you. ;)
QOTD DH & I are both Lutheran. We will be baptizing our baby probably around February or March. Even though we are the same religion I grew up going every Sunday while he was more of a Christmas and Easter church-goer. I think I'll be the one the primarily takes her to church and Sunday school as she gets older.
Love the outfit aprilbride!! I think I'm going to wear a simple black dress to mine. It makes me look like I'm smaller than I really am :)
mrsbuw -- great nursery! We have done kaput with ours. Absolutely nothing. We'll get our bedding this weekend and then try to pick out paint for the walls. I'm so not a decorating type -- I'm terrible with colors and matching and stuff. We still need to get a dresser too.
QOTD -- DH & I are both christians (don't affiliate ourselves with any denomination in particular) and our faith is very important to us. I was raised a nominal Catholic but became a christian in college -- DH was raised baptist. We go to an Evangelical Free church and we aren't planning on baptizing the baby -- we'll probably have a dedication service where DH & I will pledge to raise our baby according to God's will. We both believe that the decision to be baptized (in other words, the decision to become a follower of Jesus) is a decision that our child should make independently of us.
waddling -- a little bit of waddling here. It depends on the day and how I'm feeling, really. On a day-to-day basis I don't waddle.
flu shot -- I haven't even thought about this. I'll ask my OB on Monday.
Welcome happygolucky!!!
Mrsbuw The nursery is really cute. I love the paint color.
aprilbride2002 The dress is gorgeous!!!
religion DH is catholic and I grew up in a baptist church and we got married in a Baptist church. We're now attending a non-denominational bible church which we both love. DH is fine with us going to the bible church and just doing the baby dedication. Unfortunately, MIL sent an email the other day saying she was going to send us the baptism gown that's been passed down in his family for the Catholic baptism. Ugh!! I told DH he needs to handle that with his mom.
shower outfit Not sure what I'll wear yet but it'll probably be pants. I have a lot of knee lenght skirts I've been wearing but I'm finding it harder to sit with my legs together. The belly is in the way. Plus I figured with all eyes on me while I open gifts, I'm bound to flash the guest a few times in a skirt if I'm not careful.
maternity clothes Most are from Old Navy & Gap. I started out with demi-panels but am having to switch to full panels. The demi's start getting really tight below the belly.
waddle Not yet. If I'm really tired, I find myself starting to and I'll try to stop then.
camara -- I would take the christening outfit and use it at the dedication and explain to your MIL what's going on and that this is a significant event for you.
ITA about wearing a skirt -- I wore one to my last shower (it was a denim skirt) and there's a picture of me where you can see up it a little too far... the dress I'm thinking about wearing goes over the knees a bit further.
I'm back from the wedding and realized I have missed a lot. Love the new thread Janna !
aprilbride - love the dress! I just wore the same one to my BIL's wedding this weekend. It is also very practical as it does not wrinkle and I reversed it and wore it as a skirt to the rehersal dinner.
Mrsbuw - the nursery looks great!
flu shot - don't know yet. I've never had one before.
waddling - yes, and very slow too. I am driving my DH crazy. I'd like to let him carry this baby for a while and see how well he does :rolleyes:
QOTD - I was raised catholic and my husband congragational (sp?), but we are not very religious and were married by a judge. So, no baptism here.
waking up - I wake up constantly at night to go to the bathroom. Sometimes it is no problem getting back to sleep and other times it is impossible.
breathlessness - yes, but I find that if I sit up straight and lift my arms above my head like I think cookie said it seems to get better.
We had a good weekend. Very busy though and now I am exhausted. For anyone who still has some travelling to do, the flight was long, but fine. Just make sure you stand up a lot and keep moving your feet when you are seated. Also be sure to drink a lot of water. I found that the flight attendants were quite accomodating and kept bringing me plenty of water. Anyway, I made it across the country and back with very little swelling, which made me very happy.
I can't remember when I posted last, so hopefully I don't repeat myself or miss something.
I had my GTT this morning. Went fine, except too long. They made me wait 45 minutes before even giving me the drink! So, I was there, w/my 2 y.o. for 2 hours :mad: Anyway, hopefully all goes well w/that. I haven't been watching my diet like I did the first time around and I've definitely been eating more sweets this pg than I did w/my first.
waddling ~ yes, I think so, a little bit. I notice it if I've been sitting/laying for a while and then get up. It's like I have to waddle myself into a balanced, normal walking gait. Luckily, once I'm up and moving a few minutes, I feel 'normal' again.
flu shot ~ not getting it. i've never rec'd the shot before and I regret giving it to my DD last year, but w/my Dad's cancer, it was kind of a prerequisite for her to spend time w/him. Anyway, our family won't be doing the shots.
QOTD ~ DH and I were both raised Roman Catholic and it's a huge part of our families cultures (his Italian and mine Irish/Polish). DH only practices occasionally. We used to go every Sunday, but ever since we moved here earlier this year, he hates the new church. I'm not fond of it either, so we're actually 'church shopping' right now, but I still feel compelled to raise my children in the Catholic faith like we were. We were married in the Church and made a promise to raise our children there and it just feels 'right', kwim?
Mrsbuw- your nursery looks great - I love the colors!
aprilbride2002- that dress is fantastic. I so need to find something to wear for my showers.....
QOTD- DH and I are both Catholic, so Junior will be Catholic. Life's much easier when you don't have to argue faith-of-the-children. I know lots of people who have had the debate though, and they've fallen primarily into two camps: (1) baby follows the religion of the mother; and (2) raise the child exposed to both religions and, when s/he reaches 18 years old, let him or her choose. I lean more toward (1) than toward (2), but that's probably because I'm the mother so I would win by default.....
Thanks again for the room compliments everyone.
I am getting sick :( My throat is killing, my nose is stuffy and my head feels thick...I wanna go home
Swollen feet/ankles My feet and ankles have started to swell BUT never at the same time. Last night my right foot was crazy swollen and so was my left ankle but not my left foot or right ankle. Anyone else have mismatched swollen limbs?
TMI question I have heard this is common but has anyone else had sort of shooting pains in your "area". They were sharp enough to get my attention but not to worry me. I have heard it is because we have extra blood flow down there. Or because the baby is just pushing on a nerve or something. It only happened for a little while when I was making dinner.
Swelling I have never had that with my ankles and feet, but all of a sudden my hands are really swollen and it just got cooler here, and they are more swollen than all of this summer, it was really bad last night. I don't understand!
TMI QOTD I haven't had them yet but hear they are very common. I actually that it was because of your pelvis rearranging for birth or something like that. I know friends that had them and have warned me about them!
Coworker Vent Ok, yesterday I was talking to a coworker that I have avoided in a while, she has her opinions on pg and they drive me nuts. Anyway, I made a mistake yesterday, she asked me how I was doing, I said great that I haven't felt this good in a while (which is the truth, the last three days have been great) and then I mentioned that I was having a B&H contraction at the moment (she has two very young children, so thinking she would know about these) and that is was subsiding. She starts yelling at me that I am in labor and need to go to the hospital. I tell her calmly, no I am not in labor I get B&H all the time and for me, they are not my whole belly, just one little spot that gets them and then they relax and I don't get a second one. She then asks if I have a back ache, I say no, and she says, well that doesn't matter, you are in labor you have to rush to the hospital. I once again tell her no, I am not, blah, blah, blah. She then proceeds to tell me her birthing stories (which are horrible and I have heard before) and how the only way she was able to tell she was in labor was a back ache. Told her again I didn't have a back ache and she just kept going off of me. By this time the B&H is gone and I just start walking away, I was so irritated.
wow this thread is moving fast! I have a nasty cold and it is seriously kicking my ass. Mrsbuw, I have the same symptoms, they started late tuesday afternoon, on my 2 year anniversary and I haven't been right since. Yesterday I thought I felt a little better, but today I feel even worse :( all I want to do is sleep.
~ trying to catch up in here ~
TMI Question, I haven't had any yet, but a close friend of mine has warned me about what she calls the 'electric crotch shocks'... sounds similar to what she has described. but I'm sure you're looking for a better answer than that! ;)
swelling, not since the temperature has dropped, but mine was always pretty even - both ankles/feet.
waddling oh yeah, definitely. at least I feel like I am, noone has said anything, I'll have to ask DH.
flu shot not sure - wasn't really planning on it, but now that I have this cold, I'm definitely asking my doctor at my next appointment.
maternity clothes wherever there's a sale!! mostly gap, old navy, target and motherhood. I have a few things from babystle, one or 2 tops from mimi... I just switched to the full panel pants about a week ago and holy what a difference - SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE at this point. I didn't think I'd EVER be wearing these. I love the gap roll panel too, those are my favorites right now. I'm hoping to only buy another sweater or 2, a shower outfit and that's it. what are you guys doing for coats? Unfortunately, in the northeast, I'll definitely be needing a coat between now and my due date.
breathlessness not too bad, only if I'm doing too much really.
waking up it depends on the night. I'm getting up to pee about 3 times a night. and I was doing alright for a while falling right back asleep, then last night I was up between 3 and 5. so annoying.
religion we're both catholic, but not very religious ones... yes, we'd like to have our child baptized, but we're new to the area and haven't found a church yet. ok, so we haven't actually looked, we're still in the talking phase - we know we need to find one.
another TMI question has anyone else noticed their boobs getting really veiny? very strange, I just noticed this within the last few days. I'm wondering if the blue veins are here to stay or what.
Jaredsgirl all I can say is what an ass that woman sounds like. what is wrong with people...
a girl I work with who is due the week after I am is in the hospital with kidney stones. she has had 3 UTI's in a row and went to her doctor yesterday afternoon for an u/s - she was in a lot of pain. I guess her sister had kidney stones during her pregnancy too. weird. all I know is she's in a lot of pain and I feel absolutely ridiculous for complaining / wanting to go home b/c I have a cold.
Our first Childbirth Preparation class is tonight. I'm so nervous for some reason. The teacher just called to tell me which room it's in and to bring a 3-ring binder. I really wish we would have signed up for the one-time Saturday class. But, DH didn't want to miss any college football games, and then we scheduled my shower for the only Saturday we could take it before I'm almost full-term.
TMI QOTD: Haven't had any pains down there yet, but I have had sharp, shooting pains down the left side of my belly lately. I don't think it's round ligament pains because it happens when I'm belly?
Swelling: My fingers were swollen so bad the other day that DH and I had to work really hard to get my rings off. That hurt. He says I don't need to wear my wedding and engagement rings anymore. But, I'd feel naked without them.
jaredsgirl: Sorry about your annoying coworker!
aprilbride2002: Gorgeous dress!
Mrsbuw: Jack's room looks wonderful!
Religion QOTD: DH and I both attended a Methodist and different Baptist churches growing up. We were both "sprinkled" when we were babies at the same Methodist church, though. We were also married at that Methodist Church. So, we will probably have our baby "sprinkled" too. We may go back to that church in our hometown to do it. We moved recently, and haven't found a church to attend.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to quickly pop in and say to everyone that is sick...I hope you feel better soon! I'm home sick too. I was home on Monday, then went back to work Tuesday and yesterday and ended up leaving early. I'm going to stay home for the rest of the week. My OB said their is a virus going around and to just rest. Same thing as everyone else has described, sore throat and feverish :(
On the bright side, I am going in for an u/s in a couple of hours. Let's hope she's moved out of the breech position!!!
Good luck Jaycee!
Add me to the list of those with *the cold*. Feeling really poopy with my scratchy throat and completely stuffed nose. On top of the fact that I got oh, about 2 hours of sleep last night due to that and the power going on and off because it was rainy and windy. So I'm outta here (work) to go home and get some sleep!!! Blech.
Hope everyone is feeling better soon!
TMI QOTD I have had these every once in a while...just a quick shooting pain, then it goes away.
swelling not since it's cooled down
winter coat Since I am due Dec. 9th, I'm hoping to avoid buying one. I think I'm just going to wear my old one, unbuttoned with a scarf. I know, not ideal, but I just can't see spending the money on a new one for 1/4 of one winter.
jaredsgirl Sorry to hear about your annoying coworker!
Our nursery furniture is in! Now, we just have go to pick it up. I can't wait to finishe up his nursery. :)
Morning all,
TMI QOTD #1 -- I have had those pains once or twice recently. It really surprised me, I had no idea what it was! Glad to hear that it's somewhat common.
TMI QOTD #2 -- my bbs have been veiny since before I got my BFP. That's what really tipped me off that I was pregnant. They haven't gotten veinier, but they haven't gone away either (and I don't anticipate that they will).
jengen -- I have friends like your co-worker. It's annoying. I feel like saying "stop being such a know-it-all!"
jaycee -- hope your girl turned! You're lucky you get to see her again :)
MrsBuw ~
Great work on the nursery! I love blue. We're doing a bluish grey I think..but I have to wait for the bedding to get here so I can try to match one of the blues in it.
Religion ~
I'm Christian. My husband is Christian but wasn't raised in a church..just attended various churches with friends & hasn't ever gone regularly..but we plan to raise the baby with Christian beliefs & going to church.
Since we are out of the country so much, it's been a while since I've been to church. When we get back into the country we're so busy that I'm sorry to say I don't end up going. I'll watch either Hour of Power, Greg Laurie or Joel Osteen on TV on Sundays..but my butt needs to get going now! I actually want to start going to the church that I went to all growing up & it is actually now just 2 blocks from the house we just bought a year & a half ago. We plan to have our kids go to Pre-School all the way up to Middle School there.
We plan to have the baby dedicated there. :)
Minor Freakout ~
On 4 seperate occasions, the baby has done this weird movement that feels like a spasm or seizure! My appt is tomorrow but I finally called today because it happened again this morning. The whole office was in a meeting for the first hour..so I couldn't get through. Meanwhile I'm looking up things online (yeah I know..what a way to scare myself even more!)
Finally I get through to the Midwife... She says it's totally normal, she's had other women describe the same thing & they don't associate it with anything. PHEW! Let's hope she's right! :o
TMI question ~ Um, yes, ALL.THE.FREAKIN.TIME!!! It's seriously my biggest pregnancy complaint. I think I've mentioned it on here a few times and although I'm sorry someone else has to experience it, I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one! It didn't happen to me until much later on w/my first pg. and even then it was more sporadic. Now, I describe it as being kicked in the crotch by the Olympic soccer team and/or being stabbed w/a knife. It's that bad. I've called a nurse on it and I asked my MW at my last appt. and both said it's normal. The nurse tried to convince me it's round ligament pains (since they can go down into your pelvis and even into your thighs), but my MW agreed w/me that it's not just that since it happens even when I'm not moving. She said it just the way the baby is positioned and pinching nerves and the way the blood flow is directed/blocked etc. from that weight.
kinaida Thanks for the idea about the gown. I'll bring it up to DH and hopefully MIL will be happy with that compromise.
Jaycee I hope your U/S goes well.
I hope everyone that's a little under the weather feels better soon. It's got to be miserable being pregnant along with getting sick.
TMI QOTD#1 I haven't had sharp pains down there. Mainly just pain in my belly sometimes.
TIM QOTD#2 Yes, I've had veins there for several months now. I hope they go away after the pregnancy.
Winter coat I'm due Dec. 9 and will probably buy something like a denim jacket or a heavier blazier. I'll look at Old Navy or Target for them and will hopefully find something for under $50.
We've been attending Childbirth class on Mondays from 7-10pm. It makes for a very long day when you're coming straight from work. Last week, they had the men hold a balloon that had frozen solid water in it. They had to wrap their whole hand around it and hold it for a minute and the instructor told the guys that's what a light contraction feels like. It was funny watching the guys struggle to hold it. I think my husband is starting to feel some more sympathy for me b/c last Friday he came home with flowers for no reason at all. He never buys flowers unless it's a special occasion and even that hasn't happened as often anymore.
Boohoo to all of us sickies, I hope we all feel better soon.
jaredsgirl What the heck is wrong with some people? The only co-worker/person who has acted that way is a 42 year old hippie weirdo women who has never been pregnant and complains about everything from mold in the bathroom (which there isn't) to the toxic water in the the water filter....she just got "layed off" oh too bad
Jaycee I hope your little missy turns around for you. You are lucky you get to see her again.
TMI QOTD #2 like kinaida , my veiny breasts were my first indication of my BFP. As the twins grow I have found they are getting worse along with the blue veins all along my belly
mamax2 you described the feelings bang on. I am glad that others have felt them too.
Talking/Singing/Reading To Baby, etc: Have any of you started reading or singing to your baby on a daily basis? Are you doing anything else now that the baby's hearing is more developed? I haven't started reading to him yet, but plan to anyday now. I wonder why they recommend that if everything the baby hears sounds muffled in the womb. Oh well. I'll definitely try. :) I don't plan to sing to my baby often b/c I don't want to scare him. :D I'm not a singer. I wonder if I did sing to him if it would influence how well he sings in the future. I heard that babies pick up on their mother's tone/pitch of voice.
Just curious what you guys are doing regarding this topic. I thought to ask after sitting here listening to country music on my computer. I rarely listen to country music, but this little guy seems to like it. LOL. Everytime we go to a restaurant that plays country music, he starts kicking like crazy!
Baby Responding To Things: Speaking of my little man responding to country music, what does your baby respond to? Does he/she do something when you play music, eat a certain food, or drink something, etc.?
Dear Lurkers,
I have noticed that the same 2-3 people lurk in our thread almost on a daily basis. We love to have visitors and welcome mommies and mommies-to-be from other groups, but I'm a little bothered by the lurkers who have been registered on CC for months and have ZERO posts. The girls in this group discuss a variety of topics, many of which are personal. If you are a December mommy-to-be, please introduce yourself and join our group. We love new members!!! Some of these lurkers with no posts spend a good amount of time in our threads, so I'm sure you could take a moment to post every now and then. Please at least introduce yourself.
To the lurkers who are active CC members with lots of posts: This is not directed toward you. You're very welcome here. Like I said, I'm glad people want to check out our thread. I check out other mommy threads sometimes myself.
TO ALL DECEMBER MOMMIES: Katy (the CC administrator) is going to make the ALL THINGS FAMILY group forums more private as soon as she gets a chance. She did the same thing with the JOURNALS forum... members now have to have 10+ legitimate posts on CC before they can view journals. So, if you are a December 2005 mommy-to-be, please make sure your post count is above 10 so you can still view and participate in our thread when the changes occur. Thanks!
We just started reading to our baby a couple nights a week. A friend bought us this book which is pretty cute...
Book Description
Artfully extracted and adapted almost entirely from Ted Geisel's work, this is a must for all expectant parents - and introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Suess for their adorable baby-to-be. Exciting new discoveries are being made all the time about how much learning takes place while a baby is still in its mother's womb, and Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! makes the perfect welcome! It's never too early to start them on a rich and healthy regimen of good ol' Dr. Seuss.
I haven't noticed a particular preference to any kind of music but I will have to look out for that! :)
Hey dec mommies I'm a lurker too and didn't want to freak you guys out either! I am expecting a baby in late Jan/early Feb. but haven't joined a group b/c I have a different situation than most. I found out that I couldn't carry a baby myself due to eye complications from a life with diabetes. I thought we would adopt but then was introduced to the world of surrogacy. I'm happy to say that we had a DD in Feb 2004 via a surrogate. Anyway since I'm not "officially" pregnant I don't feel like I have much to add to these group conversations but love to read along and see what you go through with the everyday aspects of being pregnant. Unfortunatey, it's something I wish I could experience first hand but don't get to. I hope you don't mind me reading along. If it bothers you guys, just let me know!
JRPAGV Thanks so much for watching out for our privacy.
linekelei, shaqangel, ali&dc Welcome to our thread. I used to lurk a lot on WC before I got pregnant too and I still lurk in the mommies threads. I love to go and see how the baby's are growing and developing and see what kind of advice the moms have.
Talking/Singing/Reading To Baby, etc: I have started to read to him from a book of nursery rythms we have. I have also started to play his mobile everynight. I haven't really noticed anything that gets him going that much. Sometimes everything gets him going, sometimes nothing.
JRPAGV that is really funny about the country music, you have got yourself a little cowboy in there :D
Hi there! I have been lurking mostly around the family planning threads since CC was born (a transplant from WC). DH and I are currently "seeing what happens" and it's so fascinating to read about what you preggo ladies are going through. I only hope some day I can officially be a part of one of these threads! I know I don't have that many posts, but once I have some real things to chat about I would love to join in ;)
Hope you all don't mind, and thank you so much for sharing your experiences. It makes the future of (potential) pregnancy for me that much less scary!! Best of luck and happy health to all of you in the next few months...
Talking/Singing/Reading To Baby, etc ~ Well, my situation is kind of different, since I already have a toddler and spend a lot of time reading (a LOT) and singing, etc. When I was pg. w/DD1, I did play music for her and even tried putting ear phones on my belly a few times! DH would also talk to her and she definitely felt calmed by our voices when she was born. In fact, when they were trying to do her Apgar's, the nurse told my DH to 'stop talking to her, you're calming her down too much and we need her to yell a bit!"
Baby Responding To Things ~ Well, she went nuts over that fruit punch glucola drink yesterday :p Other than that, I haven't noticed that she responds more to certain foods/sounds, etc. Actually, I pretty much only feel her move if I'm being pretty sedentary, so I guess she responds to relaxation ;)
maternity coat ~ I'm going to try to avoid buying one. Where I live, it probably won't be necessary. I can get away w/layering tops/sweaters and wearing my regular coat upzipped.
qotd2 ~ Yes, they're veinier - I have super pale skin too so it's really noticeable. Between that and the stretch marks that are bound to crop up, I'll be a regular Rand McNally road map :rolleyes:
rude comments ~ I just stopped by my DH's office and his business partner (who is a super sweet guy and he and his wife are childless and have been facing infertility for a couple of years :( ) comes up to me and says:
S: "Hey, mama! You look like you're about to have that baby! How many more weeks do you have?"
Me: "12"
S: :eek: "Really?! You're really out there I thought it was much sooner"
Me: "Um, no, still have 3 months to go. You're not really making me feel better"
S: *stammering* "Well, it's just like yesterday we found out you were pregnant and now look at you and you don't look like you've gained much weight, etc." ... uh, nice recovery... :rolleyes:
Welcome to all of you newbies, even if you aren't Dec. Mommies per se...I hope for all of you that are TTC or thinking about it, this is all very educational for you!
Talking/Singing/Reading I'm constantly singing and talking to the baby. I love to sing, so that is just normal for the baby to hear me singing, but when the baby is moving I'm usually talking to it. DH's voice most definately soothes it, it will calm down in seconds after hearing him talking. Also, I don't think that the sense of tone will come from the mother, I'm a great singer, which is from my dad, my mom on the other hand, not so great. Of course he constantly sings so I guess I could have picked up his sense of tone while in the womb.
Baby Responding to Things So far it love sugar and just moves like crazy any time I have that. Thank goodness that is rarely. Also, whenever I walk in it's room and start talking to it about it's room, it moves. Also, it doesn't like storms and always wakes up. Those are the few things I have noticed so far.
Maternity Coat Hopefully I'm borrowing one from my friend who just had a baby this spring, that way I don't have to pay a ton of money for a coat for 2 months. It has been cool the last couple of days and I have been using DH's fleece, which I could maybe, just barely zip, but at least it is an option. I haven't even tried on my coats.
QOTD #2 All blue veins here. They are just not attractive either. Of course I have a weird phenomenon where one nipple discolored and one stayed the same. So I have that with the blue veins...lovely!
Let's see if I can get caught up!
Baptism - I was raised Catholic and DH wasn't raised in any church. I don't belong to a church now, mainly because I never enjoyed going and I would have to go alone. Though I always consider myself a Catholic. It is basically up to me if I want to get Oliver baptised. I would like to, but I would have to get my butt in gear and join a church.
Pains - I haven't had one yet though it sounds painful!
Veins - This was one of my first pregnancy signs too.
Coat - I will probably not buy one. I will just wear mine open.
Reading - DH will read to Oliver almost every day. Sometimes he will start kicking during a story. I am not sure though if it really has anything to do with it.
rude comments - none yet. I am just glad I don't work with the people my friend works with (she works upstairs from me). They tell her how they are going to put plastic on the floor and her chair incase her water breaks while she is at work!
jrbnj: Good to see you again! I wasn't worried about you since you're a member of our group. ;) You will need to up your post count (above 10) in the near future to continue viewing the groups in the ALL THINGS FAMILY forums, since they are going to make changes in order to protect everyone's privacy. Try to post in our group every now and then to let us know how you're doing.... even if you don't have anything else to add. :)
Leigh0918: Thanks for introducing yourself! :) I wasn't really referring to you in my original post b/c I saw that you had a few posts on CC. I was more bothered by those who have no posts, yet have been registered on this site for months. There are so many topics and threads on CC, so it just confused me as to why some people haven't found one thread to respond to on the whole site. It just seemed like they've only been coming to CC to read our group's daily discussions. Know what I mean? Good luck with TTC in the future! Stop by anytime!
ali&dc: Thank you for coming out of lurkdom. :) I'm sorry about everything you've been through. So, you have one DD and another child on the way? Congratulations! I hope you understand why I was concerned. It makes me kind of nervous to know that random people are reading about our daily discussions on things like whether or not our BB's are leaking to issues we're having with our MIL's. CC is a wonderful site with over 7,000 threads. I'm just surprised that people who have been registered for months haven't found even one thread to reply to. It makes it seem like these lurkers only visit CC to view our mommies group, and that thought upsets me. I feel a little bit better now that some of the frequent lurkers (with little to no posts) are stepping out to introduce themselves. Once again, I hope you understand.
shaqangel: Oh, I wasn't worried about you. :) I've seen you around the boards and knew that you had a large post count. You're welcome to stop by anytime. Thanks for introducing yourself, though.
Lurker out of hiding
Hi everyone. I've been lurking in the thread because I'm a December mommy-to-be too. I just don't feel too comfortable sharing photos on the internet and I didn't want anyone to feel like I wasn't sharing - especially after the baby gets here. Well - My stats are below:
Me: Jenn - 30
DH: Jenn's DH - 30
Married: 11-22-03
TTC: December 2004
BFP: April 9, 2005
EDD: 12-12-05
Gender Prediction: boy
Gender: boy
Sorry to have lurked, but it was nice to read that others were going through the same things as me.
JRPAGV: Thanks for the heads up about the 10 posts. I'll get there soon!
Well, while I'm here, I'll try to answer some QOTD:
religion: I'm Jewish and DH is Catholic and we decided to raise our son both. We're not going to have a baptism or bris since it wouldn't be fair to one of us. We'll teach both religions and spend the Jewish holidays with my family and the Catholic holidays with the in-laws so our son will be exposed to both sides. DH and I agree that as long as we raise our children to have good values and morals and to believe in G-d, that's all that really matters.
winter coat: I have no idea what I'm going to do. I really don't want to spend money on a coat, so may just wear a big coat open.
singing/reading: I haven't done either, but I do talk to him when I'm alone.
baby responding to things: I haven't noticed anything in particular. But I do think he's most active btwn 3 and 5 while I'm sitting at my desk at work.
That's all for now, I'll try to post more soon. Thanks for letting me read along!
Holy Moses, I've been trying to get a spare moment to post since the change-over, and y'all are already to page 13! Man, am I behind. I'll try to catch up...
Demetri left for Asia/Australia/New Zealand (first trip overseas without me since we started our firm!) today. I'm pretty bummed, since he'll be gone for a month, but I'll survive. The first night alone is always the hardest when we are apart. Plus, I bet once I enjoy the roominess of having the bed all to myself, I may be just a tiny bit happy to have him away. ;) We're pretty used to being apart from eachother for long stretches like this -- when we were first together, it was a pretty regular event, since we were doing the same kind of work that we are now, only with different firms/projects. So hopefully I won't go too crazy without him!
Let's see, recent topics of discussion:
baptism: this is a doozy for us. We agree on what to do, it's just not an easy thing to accomplish! I'm Catholic, DH is Greek Orthodox. Which is good, because the only 'sacraments' outside of the Catholic Church that it recognizes are those of the Greek Orthodox Church. It only works in that directions, GOC doesn't recognize CC sacraments, so we were married in a GO church... And the girl will be baptized in the GOC. Only thing is, GOC is really picky about godparents -- they have to be in good standing with the GOC, among other things. And the only people that we are close to here in the US that are GO and we would be OK having as the girl's godparents are DH's parents. Which is weird, we think. So we think we'll do what we did for our wedding (in the GOC, marriages have to be 'sponsored' by either the best man or maid of honor, and same rules as for godparents apply) and have DH's cousin be the godparent. BUT, DH doesn't even belong to a church here -- there isn't one within about 40 miles of where we live anyway. So it seems to make the most sense to do this in Greece, where DH's cousin (and basically his entire family, except for his parents and brother) lives and where we can find a church to have the baptism in easy-peasy... Which means we have to figure out when to bring the girl over to Greece, and plan everything for it from here, and get my parents over there too. Basically, it'll be a big hassle (but one that involves a trip to Greece, so I can't complain too much)!
TMI QOTD #1: I've only had this a time or so, but it is awful! I'm so sorry some of you gals are going through it regularly. Yikes!
TMI QOTD #2: I've been a veritable road map myself since very early in the pregnancy. Yuck. But my mom was the same way while she was pregnant/breastfeeding, and hers went away as soon as she weaned us kids, so I'm hoping to be the same. Makes sense that they would go away once the BBs don't need all that extra blood to work their magic. ;)
coat: I won't need one, it doesn't get very cold here (we're in southern coastal South Carolina). Maybe just a jacket, but I'll be more than fine to leave it unbuttoned. Phew. ONE thing I won't need (probably the only thing)!
talking/singing/reading: I talk to the girl all the time. Not in public, but yeah, when I'm home. So does DH. I don't know that I'm trying to help her to "know" us or our voices, so much as it just seems natural. DH made me promise that while he's gone, I'll hold the phone up to my belly and let him "talk" to her, though. Hee. And I sing along to music all the time -- have to stop myself in public. :o Especially in the car, the girl is hearing me sing all the time. But I haven't been playing music specifically for her, like Mozart to make her smarter or something. And reading? No. I'll certainly read to her as soon as she's on the outside, though. We've already got the nursery's library stocked with storybooks.
baby responding to things: I haven't seen much of a pattern, aside from certain hours of the day. She *loves* to boogie in the afternoons. Is usually pretty chill all morning. Seems she's like her mama, not much of a morning person. ;) And she seems to have taken it upon herself to help wake me up to pee around the 4am hour -- for the last week or so, I not only wake up needing to pee but with the girl kicking my bladder just to be sure I notice! Heh.
breathlessness: yeah, I've been here since about week 26. Ugh. It's all baby, I can feel her pushing up on my diaphragm. It's because I am built so strangely -- I'm pretty tall (5'7") but have a weirdly-short torso, so the girl just doesn't have any room in there. Poor thing. And poor me, I hate feeling like I can't catch my breath!
waddling: I asked DH about this last night, and he said that indeed I am waddling. BUT, he assured me that it is very cute and not at all gross fat lady waddling. To which I am taking him on his word and not asking any more questions on the subject, since I don't think I'll like the answers. ;)
Jaycee: love the US pics! I wish there was a 3-D place closer than 3 hours from us, I really want to get those done and my OB's office doesn't have a 3-D machine. So cool...
Mrsbuw: love the nursery! Gorgeous color on the walls, I'm sure Jack is going to love it in there. :)
aprilbride2002: I love that dress! Gorgeous! I wish my "shower" (really, just a family get-together) was more formal so I'd have an excuse to wear something so dressy. I'm sure you'll be stunning!
doubleR: my fellow non-passing 1hr GTTer, I meant to get in to congratulate you on passing the 3hr in the old thread! I know just how relieved you must feel. ;)
JRPAGV: great work on the new thread! It is fabulous. :)
Hope I haven't forgotten anything too important. If I did, I'm sorry! And to all the newcomers, welcome!
I'm sorry girls for upsetting you so much. I do have a DD and am expecting our second child 2/22/05. We have our big u/s on Monday and are eager to find out the gender. I didn't realize reading along would cause such problems. The reason I chose to follow along with December was our IVF/surrogacy cycle began when you were first getting positives and I recognized some names from the WC. We were eagerly waiting to find out if our cycle and pregnancy took and I was just excited and praying we had a miracle for a second time. As for my lack of posting, I had to have 6 retina surgeries over the past two years which left me partially blind in my left eye. Needless to say, I can't read some days and just never wanted to join a group and disappear for weeks on end. My eye has improved lately and I spend a lot of time on the computer when my DD is napping and have been following along. I can see with the suggestion of 7,000 other threads to chose from that I'm not particularly welcome. It's very surprising to me that someone with a unique circumstance that makes them feel left out of this whole process to begin with is being made to feel this way. Again I'm very sorry if I caused any of you unease. I hope you all have happy and healthy births and babies!
ali&dc I just want to say, I think you totally misunderstood what was said. You are welcome, we just wanted to know the people that were in here and wanted to met them. I'm sure we all think your story is inspirational, that even though you cannot go through childbirth yourself, you are having children through a surragate. I think we just all wanted to get to know the others who like to stop by. Your situation is definately unique and can understand where you are coming from.
Thanks jaredsgirl. I'm sorry if I'm being a big baby right now! :) I just want to have one thing be "normal" with our pregnancies and it's tough to find that. I guess I didn't understand why I should be frequenting many of the 7,000 threads when really all I find interesting right now is baby stuff. Once people know our story, they treat us totally different and act like we're not "really" pregnant or should be treated with kid gloves. I just wanted to follow a group but not have to explain why I couldn't answer QOTD's and so forth b/c I don't know what you guys are truly feeling. It does make me sad to not know, but I don't want people feeling sorry for us b/c we know we are very lucky to have children at all.
Sorry, I've been very emotional these days! :)
alid&c and other lurkers I agree with jaredsgirl. Welcome! I have to admit, I often lurk on the other threads ahead of us (July, Aug, Sept Mommies) to see what their childbirth experience has been like, what the first few weeks are like, what has worked best for them, etc. I want to know what I am in for! :)
jaycee Great pics! So glad she turned for you! :)
talking/reading/singing to baby I listen to music in the car ride back and to work (one hour a day or more) and often have it on in the background at work. I also talk most of the day at work and then to DH when I get home, so I don't do anything extra - ie, reading books.
baby responding to things Every time he kicks I poke my belly where he kicked and he'll kick back. We play this game over and over and he usually gets tired of it before I do. :D
Holy moly - this thread took off today!
Let's see:
Re: veins - yup - I'm a veiny preggo. Sadly, I didn't get enormous boobies - just veiny ones. Bummer.
Talking / reading / singing to the baby - I don't really do it consciously - sometimes I just end up talking to it because it's being really active. Like, if I'm trying to concentrate and the baby is doing the macarena, I'll say, "Crazy baby - settle down! Mommy's trying to focus!" Baby doesn't listen, which is probably something I should get used to. I tuned my mom out for years and years and years.
Baby responding to things - Baby responds to DH's voice. Clearly Baby has decided which parent to listen to. Not that I blame baby. DH has a very authoritative voice. <chuckle>
Coat - I'm praying for a warm autumn and early winter... which means it's probably going to be the coldest on record or something. lol.
Hi,ladies!!! I'm pretty sure you were talking about me, because I come in here everyday. I do so, because I'm a december mommy as well, due on 12/21. I wanna apologize if I made you guys feel uncomfortable or unsafe. I haven't posted because I'm pretty shy, and really don't know what to say. I'll try to post more often. Sorry again for upsetting you.
Hi everyone,
Wow, we're already on page 15 of this marvelous new thread and I am finally subscribing. I've been busy with grades and report cards this week. Next week is parent conference week so I will be at school a lot. But then we get a week off. It's a fall break. There are some great things about teaching. Then next weekend I am throwing a bridal shower for my best friend. Luckily, my mom is going to come help me. Then there is the wedding the first week in November. I will have to get fitted for my dress during my break. I'm sure I will post pics from the wedding.
Hello to all the lurkers and newbies. I don't post too often either mostly because I can only post at night or on the weekends and it seems like most of the action happens during the day when everyone is at work.
QOTD's I am still pretty symptomless. It is getting harder to bend over and sleep comfortably but I don't have any sharp pains or leg cramps or anything like that. I am feeling pretty licky so far although most of you, I mean all of you are farther alnong than me. I am the last one due other that Cookie who is due one day before me.
Sorry to all you sickies outh there. Get lots of rest!
Reading/singing I read and sing with the kids everyday at school so I count that as reading and singing to Brenden. In fact, I speak rather loudly all day so I'm sure he gets enough of hearing me blab. In our baby class this week they talked about how the baby recognizez dad's voice too. I thought that was kinda cool.
Coat I live in Arizona. There is really no need for a coat. It will get cool but not cold enough for a winter coat.
jaycee Love the pics! So cute!
Aprilbride Awesome dress. You guys are so stylish! I feel like auch a slob.
Okay, I am semi-caught up and have subscribed.
Later,
Steph
ali&dc: I apologize if my post made you think you're unwelcome in this thread. I agree with everything that jaredsgirl said. Your story is very inspirational. I hope you understand where I was coming from with my posts. I come in here everyday to talk about personal issues, and it really makes me nervous to see people reading along who have never introduced themselves or have never appeared to visit any other threads anywhere on this website. I'd like to assume that every lurker with a post count of zero is a nice person with a good reason for not posting. But, that's just too hard to do. I would have never guessed your reasons or personal history just by seeing your screen name on the bottom of the page for hours each day. That's why I typed my original post. I wanted those of you who follow along on our journey and maybe even benefit from it to at least let us know who you are. I wasn't as worried about the lurkers who have a reputation or identity on CC... because I've seen them around. Do you understand where I'm coming from? I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to know who you (general you meaning all lurkers with a post count of zero) are and why you seemed only interested in this particular thread on CC. In no way am I (or was I) speaking for the others in this group. Again, you are welcome here. I hope I didn't offend you. Thanks again for introducing yourself. :)
malala: Welcome to our group!!! :D We love getting new members! There's no need to feel shy around here. I understand, though. Once you post a few times and jump in, it gets easier. We're all here to help each other and to offer support, so please don't be afraid to speak up or reach out. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
daphne: Congratulations on your son! That's so neat that you stop by to reminisce. I'll probably be doing the same thing this time next year!
freckle: Please don't think I was talking about you or anyone else who is a member of our group. :) I just wanted those lurkers (with zero posts) who spend a lot of time each day in our thread to introduce themselves. Anyway, good to see you again! Chime in every now and then and let us know how you're doing. We're getting so close to December! Can you believe it??
torch76: Hey there! I understand if you don't have a lot of time to post. I was just worried about those lurkers (not members or people with a lot of posts on CC) who spend so much time in our thread. I didn't know why they could spend so much time lurking, yet have no time to type a sentence or two introducing themselves. Know what I mean? Anyway, you know you're always welcome here. ;)
I have to try to update my progression picture when I'm at work tomorrow. I'm feeling way more pg. so it'll be interesting to see the photos side by side.
Welcome to our new friends! No matter what your story is or why you're here, it's nice to at least 'know' who's out there.
Incidentally, I think having a minimum post count for group threads is a good idea. There is some security (albeit minimal) in seeing people post a lot and share their personal information instead of just reading about others personal info. Actually, this whole lurker thing is why I don't post photos of my DD's face anymore and why I don't really ever use her name on this site. It never occured to me that people would be out there just 'watching', but once I found that out on the other site, I got a lot more cautious, kwim? Anyway, I hope anyone who wants to follow along in this thread feels welcome - I think we're a pretty welcoming bunch of girls :D - it's just nice to know who's at the party, kwim?
Welcome!!!-to all you former lurkers/newbies! It's really nice to see some fresh *faces* in this thread. Never think you have nothing to contribute, even if it's just to say hello, it's nice to hear from people!!
Feeling a wee bit better today. Decided to rough it out at work since it is Friday and all. I got some sleep yesterday when I got home and it felt wonderful. I could use about 24 hours more of it (sleep, that is), but I take what I can, when I can.
I CANNOT believe I'm 30 weeks already. Only 10 more to go!
Wow! This thread can move. Holy cow!!!
Welcome to the newbies. malala - We have the same due date! You are the first person I have met with it so it is pretty exciting for me. :)
I just got back from my OB appt and completely forgot to ask about flu shots. Pregnancy brain! I did ask about cord blood donation and it is, in fact, free at my hospital. I feel really good about donating so I will be sure to get my paper work in by week 35 (the cryobank deadline).
I'm up 4.5 pounds since my last visit which was 4 weeks ago. That puts my total weight gain at just under 15lbs. I asked if that was OK and she said that I am measuring RIGHT on schedule and that "normal" weight gain is such a person to person thing.
I also passed my GTT which is good. My level was in the 70s (can't remember exact number but they like to see it under 135). :)
We had a quicky u/s thanks to my mom. The baby is still breech and STILL in her feet over her head yoga position. My mom exclaimed, "that's what you get for doing all that damn yoga!" Of course she was kidding. They like to see the baby turn by 32 weeks so we still have plenty of hope.
Hey all,
Welcome lurkers! You are welcome here -- ali&dc, you have a very cool story and I'm glad you are able to find some connection with us :)
kamileer -- is your girl in a frank breech position?
jaycee -- great u/s pictures!! Amazing.
mamamax -- you look great!! I know what you mean about sharing personal information on here. This IS a public forum after all. I will probably only post my baby's pictures on the LJ community (feel more secure there, even though you're still posting on the internet, it feels like you have more control).
reading/talking/singing -- I do talk to the baby sometimes. I haven't read to him/her yet. I figure that s/he hears me talking enough and that's the same as reading to them at this point :) I will be doing all kinds of reading after s/he comes out though!
Can't wait for the showers this weekend!! This is my big one so I'm hoping to get a bunch of stuff taken care of off the registry. I'm such a registry lurker...
09-30-2005, 09:36 AM
Well today has not been a great day so far. I'm having a ton of false labor. I was in the shower and just have B&H contractions right after another. The Dr said I was ok and a textbook case of B&H contractions (not hurting, subsided when I sat down, not increasing in intensity, baby still moving around quite a bit) but understood why I was worried and just to take it easy today but they told me a couple times that they were happy I called. They told me I would know the difference between B&H and regular contractions so I'm just going to take their word. So I"m home just hanging out on the couch, but sometimes that is worse than being at work because there are so many things that need to be done around here and I have to restrain myself from doing them!!!
One weird thing, they were talking about how I am late in my pg...gosh, I feel I have so far to go!!! But it is fun to think that it is coming soon enough!
Kinaida - What is a frank breech position? You have me curious.
JRPAGV: Thanks for the post. I understand that you don't want people reading your personal journeys who might not be here for the right reasons. I just hate that I caused you to worry. I know that's the last thing you need during this experience. I'm ultra sensitive right now since I feel like I don't fit in anywhere, so I'm sure I just got upset too easy. Like you said, my username didn't give any hint to our crazy journey! :)
HELPFUL BABY HINTS
I guess since I don't have any pregnancy symptoms to discuss, I'll give you guys some of the most helpful hints I got when expecting my DD.
1. When you make up your crib, if you place a waterproof layer followed by another sheet, waterproof pad, sheet, it is very simple to take the first layer of sheet and pad off if there is a spit up/pee-pee accident in the middle of the night. That way you have another sheet all ready to go underneath and you're not searching for another sheet etc at 2:00 am.
2. If any of you girls are registered at Target, if you receive gifts without receipts, hang on to them and make a big return all together. We found out that you can only do two returns on your registry total w/out gift receipts. We continued to receive gifts for the whole year after she was born so it got a little tricky.
3. I needed a lot more burp clothes than I thought I would.
4. Newborn gowns came in very handy the first few months b/c it makes changing the diaper much easier when you don't have to unsnap etc.
Hope this helps!
And if anyone has any questions regarding our surrogacy at all, feel free to ask!
ali&dc: Thank you for understanding. I'm sorry if I made you feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. It wasn't you in particular who caused me to worry. We have had several lurkers with zero posts, so the whole thing kind of made me nervous. I just wanted everyone to introduce themselves. Don't feel like you don't fit in anywhere. You're welcome to hang out here, and there's several other groups that may be of interest to you too. Not sure if there's a surrogacy group. Have you been following along with the February 2006 group (Isn't that when your baby is due?) or the group for your DD's age? Like I said, please feel free to stick around here too. We need all of the advice we can get! :) Speaking of advice, thanks for your last post...
2. If any of you girls are registered at Target, if you receive gifts without receipts, hang on to them and make a big return all together. We found out that you can only do two returns on your registry total w/out gift receipts. We continued to receive gifts for the whole year after she was born so it got a little tricky. My neighbors told DH and I this the other night. That's crazy! I wonder why they make things so difficult. Thanks for telling us this, because I wasn't sure whether to believe my neighbors or not. :p
3. I needed a lot more burp clothes than I thought I would. How many should we get? What kind did you like the best? I've heard that cloth diapers work really well as burp cloths.
*phew* I missed a bunch yesterday with my busy day at work!
Lurkers/newbies: Welcome! I understand the concern for privacy but I also understand the curiosity. I lurk in the threads of the Mommies who are in the midst of HAVING their babies (The Sept/Oct mommies threads), so I feel ya.
jaredsgirl: Ugh. I'm so sorry to hear about your BHs and false labor. That's got to be so scary even if you know its not really setting you into "real" labor you know?
kamileer: I hope your yoga baby turns the right way soon!
Makes me wonder which way ours is going to be laying at the ultrasound on Tuesday. I wish it was a 4D. :(
Sleep: I slept a little better last night hugging a regular-sized pillow to my body. But, I still woke up about every 2-3 hours to turn. Seriously...! I slept fine when I slept...but I woke myself up to turn over. Cracked me up.
We leave today at 4 for my baby shower in TN tomorrow. I'm so excited! I've been a bad registry peeker!
ali&dc -- I registered at Target for my wedding and they have a horrid return policy. Unfortunately that's the most convenient place for my family in Michigan to get stuff from, so I had to register there again. I'm hoping I won't have to return much though. Thanks for the heads-up about bringing everything in at one time!
kamileer -- I was curious about your girl b/c I was reading last night that you can still vaginally deliver if the baby is frank breech -- they like to do a c-section if the baby is regular breech (feet-first vs. butt-first for those who are interested).
ktdelsur -- glad you slept better last night!! I love my huge pillow for hugging to my body.
jaredsgirl -- yes, drink water! I have had 2 or 3 BH contrax but water took care of them. I haven't had them in weeks though.
I would say on the burp cloth front that 10-12 would be a good number. It's nice to not have to do laundry all of the time! The cloth diapers do work well. I don't really have a favorite brand but we did find that the really thin burp clothes weren't very helpful.
I haven't seen a surrogacy thread, but maybe I could try to start one? It's kind of rare, but I guess it couldn't hurt to see if there are any others out there. How do you start a thread? I'm not very up on how to navigate these kind of sites other than reading. :)
I don't know why, but for some reason I just never joined Feb mommies. The docs think we'll actually have the baby in late Jan/early Feb. I just didn't recognize any of the names in either and was enjoying reading along with you guys. The hardest part of the whole process is the fertility cycle and surgery and your thread was a kind of escape for me during that stressful time. I guess that kind of gave me a slight bond to you guys! :)
Hi Ladies, I am coming out of lurkdom. I'm not hear to freak anyone out I promise :) . We are going to start TTC in December and I wanted to follow a pregnancy group to get an idea of what to expect since I think real life discussion is way better than any book. I'm not a big poster because by the time I finish reading this thread and most of family planning I'm out of time. But I did want to say helo and wish you all the best of luck with your pregnancies. One more thing: please be kind with my grammatical/spelling mistakes. English is my second languange, therefore I make tons of mistakes!! :o
jaredsgirl: Sorry about your false labor! :( Hope the BH stop soon. The L&D nurse who taught our Childbirth Preparation class last night said that the large majority of women who come in with false labor are dehydrated, so make sure you're getting tons of water to drink. She said the number of ounces of water we drink each day should equal half of our body weight (and that's the minimum you should get).
kinaida: Have fun at your baby shower! Can't wait to hear all about it!
kamileer: That's awesome that cord blood donation is free at your hospital. I'll have to ask about that at my next appointment. Congrats on passing the GTT! And I'm sure your little girl will turn around in time. :)
aprilbride2002: Thanks! Gotta look out for my girls! ;) Congrats again on being 30 weeks! That's a big "milestone" (IMO anyway!).
happygolucky: I haven't experienced leg cramps during this pregnancy (knock on wood!), but I used to get them all the time a few years ago. They got so bad that my doctor was going to prescribe me some "old people's medication". He also suggested eating bananas b/c of a potassium deficiency, but the cause of leg cramps in pregnancy is probably different. Anyway, I hope you stop having them. They suck, don't they?
torch76: I bet you're looking forward to fall break! :D What grade do you teach again? We watched a movie in our Childbirth Preparation class last night that said the same thing about the baby being able to recognize the dad's voice too. That is so cool. I looked over at DH when the narrator said that, and his face just lit up.
mamax2: Great belly shot! You look wonderful!
Okay, gotta take another bathroom break. I'll be back later!
malala: What is your first language? Do you live in the US?
We ordered the glider/ottoman pictured below from Target.com. It's only $299.99, but we also had a 10% off coupon code and a free shipping offer. They forgot to include the screws and instruction sheet, so we're waiting on Shermag to ship them to us. This brand, Shermag, got great ratings in the Baby Bargains book and the glider/ottoman has 4 stars on Target's website.
White Finish Glider Rocker and Ottoman Combo with Butter Tufted Cushions (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_12/602-6429061-4187825?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0003324XA)
My brother/SIL have it too and they love it. It's really comfy!
malala: We got this glider from Target:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0003324T4.16._AA260_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It was $199.99 for both pieces, and it is a Shermag. The cushion is a microsuede sort of cushion, which I'm not crazy about in terms of cleaning, but we'll live. It fits both DH and I perfectly (We're 6'0" and 5'6"), but I could see how the seat might be a little "short" for a big tall man. Our nursery furniture is cherry so it should match nicely.
I really wanted one of those gliders that looks like a regular club chair, but both pieces would have cost upwards of $500 and we're on a tight budget. My advice is to try and go sit in a few to see what type you like before you order anything!
Welcome to all the lurkers! I'm thinking I should go expose myself in the journals I lurk in...
Religion: My DH and I were both brought up Catholic but neither of us feel 'Catholic' if that makes sense. I have a strong sense of spirituality and have great respect for virtually all religions but don't feel tied to any one of them. My DH simply isn't interested in religion in any way, shape, or form. I think he and I very strongly agree on our moral positions though so I don't foresee any problems with how to raise our child (at least until they are older and sex becomes a topic - I'm much more liberal...)
Pains and veins: That rhymes! Don't have the 'crotch shocks' (that term cracks me up), but I get pain elsewhere instead. Glad that's one I have avoided! As for veins, I think I am a bit veinier but I haven't really noticed it being that extreme.
Coat: I live in cold cold Canada so I'm a bit annoyed with this whole issue. I am so ... thrifty (stingy?) that I absolutely hate the idea of spending money on something I will only wear for a few months at most. I think I will just swipe DH's fleece for as long as I can and have been basically going everywhere by car anyway so hopefully I'll be able to get through until the baby is here. The truly cold weather (-40) doesn't really begin until January usually anyway.
Reading and Baby Responses: Before I got pregnant I totally thought I would do yoga and meditate and read to the baby and play music and be the most awesome gestational environment that ever was. Yeah. None of it. I like the idea of reading a particular book to the baby so it gets familiar with it but can't find one that I could stand reading over and over even after the baby is born, let alone starting before. So I'm figuring the baby hears me talk enough in the course of a day but I do like it when my Dh talks to my belly. As for responding, the baby doesn't seem to respond to a whole lot other than being poked. It does like to jig in the middle of the night though...
A quick word of advice to those who have not ordered your nursery furniture!
Order it early!! LOL
I know it doesn't hold true for every vendor - but I just got my second "postponement" phone call on my furniture. I bought it through a hometown store who orders direct from the CA manufacturer and apparently there was a problem with the shipment of cherry furniture so it has been held back until October 25. That is apparently a DEFINITE, drop-dead deadline for the furniture though, compared to the others. I just want my furniture! We ordered it in mid-July, were told late August, then late September/first week of October, and now October 25. Augh.
kamileer
Veins - I never did touch on this subject but I have them big time. Even my HANDS look more veiny! My skin is pretty fair so you can see everything.
kamileer
ktdelsur - Tell me about it! We have been waiting on the knobs and feet my nursery furniture manufacturer (Sorelle) forgot to include with our dresser for over a month. Add that to a dent we found on a crib panel which needs replacement. Who KNOWS when we'll get that replacement part. Then there is our glider which is taking 16 weeks to arrive!!!!
Thank you guys for your recommendations on gliders. I already sat on some of them, but I guess I can't make up my mind because I kinda want "the best" one, but I don't wanna pay it's price, if it makes sense.....
Does anybody know between Shermag and Dutailier which one is better?
As far as my first language, it's spanish, I'm from Argentina, but have lived in the US for the past 5 1/2 years.
religion: don't know yet how we'll go about this. I was raised catholic, and come from a "very catholic" family. DH is I think lutheran?, but wasn't raised so much into it. We don't go to church, but we'd like to give our child some sense of religion. I don't know, I kinda try not to think about it yet, because I have no clue what we're gonna do.
veins: have been pretty veiny(?)I think from the beginning. Have them in my boobs, my chest and some in my tummy.
Thank you again for the warm welcome, and for answering my question :)
Hey everyone!! Thanks for the compliments on the u/s pics!! It is so exciting to see such detail, and my ribs feel so much better now that she's turned. I think I even felt her turn on Tuesday, and let me tell ya..It was not a comfortable feeling :eek:
Welcome to all the newbies!! and ali&dc thanks for the great tips! We aren't registered at Target, but that return policy is great to know and I'm sure it's going to save someone on here some major hassle.
jaredsgirl, you poor thing. Just try to rest and take it easy. baby needs a little more time to bake :p
malala, we got a Dutalier glider and ottoman. The deluxe model I think it's called. It was the roomiest one with the highest back. We just got it today so as soon as I get it set up, I'll take a picture to post.
mamax2 Nice belly shot! You look so good!
Winter coat I think I'll be able to get away without one since I'm due at the end of Nov. It's usually still mild here at that time.
Religion DH and I are both Jewish, so we really don't have any descisions to make, although we haven't joined the synagogue here yet and we will have to soon because we plan on having a hebrew baby naming ceremony probably within the first month after she's born. Neither of us are ultra religious, but we'd like to at least teach her the culture and customs.
I'm sure I've missed a ton, but bare with me, I've been sick and this thread is moving a lot faster than I am :D
jaycee ~ That u/s pic is sooooo cool. I wish they did those everywhere. Maybe by my third child :p
Thanks everyone for the compliments on my latest belly shot. Did ya'll notice the little purple monsters, um, I mean stretch marks, making their way up the sides of my belly? :( I think these are the old ones just being brought to the surface not new ones, kwim?
gliders ~ We have the same one (albeit a 2003 model) that Kami posted. Love, love, love it! It wasn't necessarily cheaper than going w/a Dutalier, we just happened to think it was more comfy and all the features were exactly what we wanted. My DH is also about 6'-6'1" and he's quite comfortable in it as well, esp. w/the recline.
Registry Returns ~ Ohhh, this reminds me of another tip re: BRU. This happened to my SIL, but she had tons of returns (she lives up in NJ where showers are like wedding receptions). Anyway, she had gift receipts for some things and not for others. Well, I guess the clerk was feeling lazy and told her 'Oh, if it's off your registry don't worry about the gift receipts it doesn't matter'. I guess she told her this b/c it's faster not to have to enter each gift receipt # in the computer system. My SIL didn't argue (who would?) Anyway, when she went back later to do more returns, she found that she had 'maxed out' They had put all those returns in their system as being w/out a receipt and they limit you on how much you can return in a year w/out a receipt. They track it by your driver's license. Anyway, she had to send her friends or mother to do the rest of the returns for the next year :eek: What a pain. So, if you have gift receipts ALWAYS make sure the clerk enters them!
I like the idea of reading a particular book to the baby so it gets familiar with it but can't find one that I could stand reading over and over even after the baby is born, let alone starting before.
I'm w/you on that one. You have all the toddler years to read the same d@mn books over and over, and trust me, you will! My DD makes me read the same books repeatedly. I have even resorted to hiding them :o but then she just asks 'Mama read? Babies go? Big Sister go?' (meaning where did her books about babies and being a big sister go since those are her favorite topics at the moment.
Re: Furniture - OMG, I am in SUCH a pickle with the danged nursery furniture. I have ordered a crib, and THAT'S IT. No dresser. No changing table. No glider. Nada. I don't know what's wrong with me - I just can't make a decision on the stuff. My poor baby - s/he is going to be living in the damned closet on a shelf at the rate I'm going.
Registry Returns - I'm so glad I'm reading all this stuff now! I can't believe BRU and Target limit the amount of stuff you can return when it's on your registry! That's just insane... and frustrating.
My poor baby - s/he is going to be living in the damned closet on a shelf at the rate I'm going.
Your baby & my baby both!! I'm hoping to get more on top of nursery stuff after the shower this weekend. We really need to find a dresser -- we have been procrastinating. I feel like after we have a dresser, I will be much more motivated to get organized. I just have no clue where I'm going to put all of this stuff.
DH called me at work to say his co-worker had her baby last night 6 weeks early!! The baby boy is 5lbs and they are keeping him in the NICU. Though I guess he is not on a respirator so that is good. She isn't sure yet how long he will be in there. Her water just broke last night, she was feeling fine. She had a 7 hour labor. Her mom, who also works with DH, is on vacation in Maine. I can't imagine how stressful that would be. I am just glad the baby is ok!
Jaycee - The 3D u/s are so neat!!
mamax2 - Thanks for the info on BRU returns.
Kinaida - Have fun at your shower!!
happygolucky - Leg cramps are awful. I've had a few where the next day my leg aches still. Last night I had an ankle cramp. I didn't even know those existed!
glider - I ended up not getting a glider, for some reason the motion made me feel sick. I forgot who asked if Dutalier or Sharmag is better. I think Baby Bargains gave them both A's. We ended up getting a poang chair from Ikea.
Everyone have a good weekend! DH is taking me out on a "date" tomorrow. We won't have too many more chances for that!!
Hi Ladies.
Since you were on the subject of lurking the last couple days, I wanted to come out and introduce myself. I am expecting DS #2, with an EDD of 1/3. That said, I am pretty certain that this will be another December baby for me as I want to try VBAC if he comes early, and my ob wants to do a repeat c/s on 12/27 otherwise. (So, I guess I feel like I kind of straddle 2 months. :rolleyes: )
I have loved reading along because you are a really active group and I have honestly forgotten so much about symptoms, etc. And you all are so nice too! Sorry if I have made anyone uncomfortable!
If you ever have questions about c/s, having a Dec baby or anything else, feel free to ask. I am pretty open ;)
kinaida - I know exactly what you mean. I've gotten a few things as early gifts - exersaucer, kick-n-play and snap-n-go being the big ones. They're sitting in the middle of my living room because I literally have no other place for them. I can't put anything into the baby's "room" until I move the dining room table out, and I can't move the dining room table out until I can get a free weekend, and I don't have a free weekend on the books until NOVEMBER. Crazy. And yes, my baby will live in a dining nook. Poor baby.
krbb - ankle cramps?!? Oh dear. I'm jealous that you and DH are getting a date night. I can't remember what those are.
Hope everybody has a great weekend!
Ugh. Kept trying to post today, but my internet connection has been cutting out all day long. I've lost a post twice, thanks to my crappy connection. Grr...
Oof, kinaida and happygolucky, I have been tripping over baby stuff all day so I feel your pain. Before DH left on his business trip, he helped me move just about everything out of our nursery so I can paint it while he's gone. Only problem is that while we are lucky enough to have a nursery, we most certainly don't have a square inch anywhere else to put the baby stuff while I paint. So it is scattered all over the house and is already driving me mad! Gah. Don't know how I'm going to handle it once the girl is here and there isn't a good reason for it to be everywhere!
kamileer, great US shot of the baby's face! We keep trying to get one, but the girl pulls her head away and makes it impossible for the tech to get a clear view. How nice that your yoga baby is being so cooperative! ;) Now turn, baby, turn!
I agree about ordering nursery furniture early, we ordered our crib a month and a half ago and still have about a month to go before it gets here. It's the last major thing that we are waiting for, really. But still, I'm anxious to have it in my hot little hands!
mamax2, your new avatar (it's your DD, right?) is gorgeous! Sigh. Makes me *very* anxious! :)
Well, my stomach has looked like I've got some puppies trapped in there, the girl has been wiggling and jiggling so much today. Don't know what all of the commotion is about, but it's cracking me up! Hopefully she'll settle down by tonight, so I can manage to get some sleep -- she's kicking so hard, I don't think I would be able to sleep through it. :D
Have a great weekend, all!
Have a great weekend everyone! Gotta run. Late for swimming.
Busy busy today! :)
Welcome to all the new members and lurkers!
This is going to be a quick post but just wanted to mention that I had the Day of Pregnancy today. I went in for my glucose test, rhogam shot, and went to the chiropractor. :) I really want to thank whoever mentioned that the rhogam was a bum shot as opposed to the arm. Helped me be mentally prepared. I can't remember the last time I had to drop my pants for a shot!
I feel like after we have a dresser, I will be much more motivated to get organized. I just have no clue where I'm going to put all of this stuff. Kinaida, this is so true. We got our dresser this week and it was driving me nuts having STUFF all over the nursery. It's not totally organized yet but just putting the stuff away that I could was such a help. Now you can actually walk and see the floor in there. ;)
More later. I am sooooo tired -- not sleeping well!
aprilbride, I don't think you're much huger than me...I'm not sure what that says...;) You look great!
I had the worst dream last night! I haven't had a lot of actual baby dreams during this pregnancy, although my dreams have been weird in general.
Quick sum-up is that I had delivered twins and never got to see them in the hospital for some reason. I went to my parents' house, where I guess they were living, and they were in my old bedroom which was full of all kinds of clutter. The truly disturbing part: one of the twins was a gorgeous little girl who was basically a miniature person. Full head of hair, full of expression, etc. The other twin was naked and albino, her limbs weren't fully formed, her eyes were still closed, and she had scars all over her face. I was really shocked to see this and honestly kind of repulsed. But I also felt so guilty that I was repulsed by my own daughter. It was really upsetting!
Another weird element: their names were Heather and Dawn, which I would never pick, and I was wondering to myself how they ended up with those names! :)
Very weird. Thought some of you would understand.
burkie, good for you for still swimming!
MrsBuw, yay for a good appointment! I would LOVE to have an appt. w/out weight gain. Of course not to mention good stats on the baby. :)
around the world, it is pretty amazing when they're bopping around in there.
I can't put anything into the baby's "room" until I move the dining room table out, and I can't move the dining room table out until I can get a free weekend, and I don't have a free weekend on the books until NOVEMBER. Crazy. And yes, my baby will live in a dining nook. Poor baby. happygolucky, this cracked me up! I know, these projects are all dependent on some other factor that ends up getting in the way. Don't worry about the dining nook...the baby will have no clue. One of my friends in NYC had her first baby in a tiny apartment and the baby's "room" was a closet maybe 4x6 feet with a mattress on the floor. We used to laugh about whether or not the poor kid would be traumatized and later tell her therapist how she had to sleep on the closet floor as a baby. :D
krbb, hope your date is great! Our anniversary is coming up on Oct. 12 (3 years!), and we are kind of strapped $wise right now. But I convinced my husband that we should go out for a nice dinner in the city (we live a little more than an hour from NYC) to celebrate since it will be our last child-free anniversary. We decided it's worth it and I'm excited!
Have a great weekend, everybody! Definitely feels like fall in our neck of the woods, which makes it that much more real that DECEMBER is on the way.
around the world ~ Yes, that is DD1 - she was a flower girl for a friend's wedding a couple of weeks ago and that's her after the ceremony trying to pick up all the rose petals and 'put away flowers' :D
Well, this will be my last post for a while; we're heading out tomorrow morning for a vacation in Florida. We haven't taken a vacation in over 1.5 years. Prior to having DD, we were definitely the vacationing/travelling sort, so this has definitely been an adjustment. Can't wait for a break from work and house cleaning, cooking, etc. for a little while!
Last night we went to a party (again, haven't been to adult party in FOREVER - probably not even since DD was born!) and it was so much fun. Of course, everyone else was having a LOT more fun in the way of sampling tons of wine, but it was amusing for me to watch all the same. Now I'm starting to feel 'done' w/pregnancy, kwim?
Take care ladies, I'll 'see' you next week :)
So I just got home from the hospital today - I've been there since Friday night. DH was away on a 4 day trip and I had fallen asleep on the sofa. I got up to go to the bathroom and saw bright red blood in the toliet - I wiped myself and found the entire tissue covered in bright red blood. After a 15 second conversation with myself, I call my doctor's service, speak to the covering physician and am told I have to go to the hospital - Labor & Delivery. I of course immediately start to panic and I called my cousin and asked her to come to the hospital with me. I call DH's hotel and tell him what's going on and he makes me promise to call him and tell him what's going on.
We get there at about 1 AM and they hook me up to 3 monitors - one for each baby's heart and one to see if I'm having any contractions. Within 15 minutes, they tell me that yes, I have already had 3 contractions. I couldn't believe it because I hadn't felt anything. But then I start feeling really, really crampy. The covering physician finally comes in and examines my cervix - which is fine and has not dialated. I'm told I have to stay so they can monitor me. I call DH back and give him the update. He'd already called his chief pilot. He had to fly to Houston and then he was emergency dropping all of his other flights and was scheduled to come back to Newark.
The next morning, one of the doctors from my OB's office is on duty and looks at the monitor print outs and says that I've been having contractions a good part of the night. He tells me I need to stay at least until the next morning so they can continue to monitor the babies heartbeats and just in case anything was to happen, they have a "better chance of saving the babies" than if I were at home. He orders an ultrasound to determine why I'm started bleeding and an IV. I don't get to ultrasound until 2:30 in the afternoon. Thankfully, my placentas look good as does my cervix. One baby is 2 pounds 12 ounces and the second is 3 pounds and VERY active! Since my last u/s, they have both have changed their positions - one is now in the "stargazer" position (head down, but face up) and the other is now breech! At one point, the baby that was breech had his arm over his head/face - I joked that he has to protect himself from his brother's kicks! So it looks like the bleeding was coming from the fact that I was having contractions.
DH doesn't finally show up at the hospital until 8 PM! (It took him almost a full 24 hours to get home!) At which point, my cousin, who has been a saint, finally goes home.
This morning, the same covering physician is back on duty and says that since everything appears to have stabilized (no more bleeding, no more contractions) I can go home. I have to call my doctor's office tomorrow morning and find out if I have to go on some meds to ensure contractions don't start again and if I'm now on some sort of bedrest. (Covering doc didn't want to make any decisions of this kind since I'm not one of her regular patients).
I'm sorry this post is so long (especially from some one who hasn't posted here before) but it's been a bit stressful the last few days.
I did want to add a few things to what others have said/asked here:
AprilBride - I just ordered the same dress and shrug from JW for a wedding DH and I are supposed to attend Oct 22nd (I don't know if I'm going to make it to the wedding now.)
Reading/Talking/Playing Music for baby - we've been playing classical music on and off the last few weeks, but I think we're going to start doing this on a more regular basis now.
Nursery Furniture - we ordered ours when I was around 18 weeks because I have heard horror stories about furniture not arriving until the baby is 3 months old! Our cribs and dresser are going to be delivered tomorrow - I can't wait!
Religion - I'm Catholic, DH is Church of England. We just moved into our townhouse in July - I haven't yet found a parish to join, but I really need to get moving on this!
Pilot's Wife Welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about your scare this weekend. That would be so incredibly scary. DH was sitting here with me and I was telling him the brief version of what you wrote and he felt horrible for you. He felt horrible for you as well. We just had good friends deliver at 30 weeks and it was quite scary! But I'm happy all subsided and hopefully things stay in the clear!
Pilot's Wife I'm very happy everything turned out fine with you and the boys. I can only imagine how scared you were, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I can relate to the situation with your husband since my DH is also a pilot. And that's one of my biggest fears right now, something happening when he's gone on a trip. And since babies come whenever they want to, I also worry about our baby coming while he's gone....I guess there's no point on stressing over this, since there's nothing I can do about it.
Well, somehow I ended up making this post about me, and that wasn't my intention, once again I'm very happy the 3 of you are doing well now!
Tenngirl: Welcome - what part of TN are you from? I have a low-lying placenta too and will be finding out tomorrow via ultrasound if it has moved to where it is supposed to be. I haven't had any bleeding or symptoms that would lead us to believe otherwise, but we still want to be sure!
pilotswife: Congrats on your twins, and I"m sorry to hear about your scare. I can't even imagine. I'm glad things stabilized!
Cross posted from my LJ:
Had my first shower on Saturday!
Holy moly it was a crazy day. I have pictures but have not even unpacked my clothes let alone feel like getting the camera images downloaded. There were 16 of us, and it was great. Good food, good friends, and an amazing spread of gifts - I'm so blessed to have such generous friends and family.
Needless to say, this weekend totally wore me out. It was NONSTOP, go go go. I am useless today, and honestly have considered calling in sick to work tomorrow if I don't get a good night of sleep tonight. I just caved and bought a body pillow today - we'll see if that helps.
Huge
I feel like I grew overnight - is 31 weeks of pregnancy too soon to start feeling uncomfortable and slightly understanding the concept of "I can't wait to get this thing out"??? I technically still have two months to go, but good GOD, I feel enormous. Feet in ribs, can't sleep comfortably it seems, no matter what I do. I loooong to sleep on my stomach again. :-) But, at the same time. I really do like being pregnant...its going to be weird not feeling him move around in there anymore. It will be nice to not have strangers blatantly staring at my belly anymore.
QOTD - Dizzy/Panic/Stress?
Two or three times in the past month or so, I've had little episodes at work (once yesterday evening) where I will be standing there, not having been doing ANYTHING strenuous whatsoever. All of a sudden my heart starts racing and I feel like I'm out of breath like I've just come up a flight of stairs. It goes away once I sit down, but it was a little weird. It coincides with my belly just feeling REALLY heavy. It hasn't been a problem, and I know my body is working really hard right now doing important things, but I'm still going to mention it to the doctor at my next appt.
Anyone else have this happen?
Ultrasound on Tuesday!!!! Pray for a normally-placed placenta and no early c-section!
Pilotswife - how scary! I'm glad everything turned out okay.
ktdelsur - I totally relate to the "good GOD, I feel enormous" sentiment. I was saying to DH last night, I feel SOOOOOO big, I hardly know how to deal with myself. I have a body pillow, which does a lot to alleviate the sleeping issues, but I get TIRED from hauling 25 extra lbs around all day. I can't believe I still have ten and a half weeks to go!
I would definitely mention the strange dizziness to your doctor. It sounds like a panic attack, but if you're not panicking about something, then I'm not sure what it could be.
Happy Monday everyone!
Good Morning, Everyone! Can't believe I'm 30 weeks today! :eek: I've had a crazy weekend and missed a lot, but have read along and will try shout outs to at least a few of you. ;) We had our childbirth classes this weekend. They were 4 hours long each on Sat and Sun, taught by a midwife in my practice. I knew most of what she went over from reading, talking to friends and lurking on CC, but I found it very helpful to hear right from the horse's mouth so to speak, what my practice's stance is on inducing, c-sections, vaccuums, drugs, etc., etc. So, it took up a good chunk of the weekend, but was worth it.
feeling huge you guys are not alone. aprilbride you may be measuring 4 weeks ahead, but my belly is as big as yours! :) I'll have to post a recent belly shot soon.
pilotswife Welcome and I am so glad to hear everything worked out ok! How scary for you! :(
ktdelsur Can't wait to see some of your shower pics! I haven't been having panic attacks/heart racing you described, but it sounds normal at this stage. I would definitely run it by your dr. though. Hope everything goes well at your appt!
Well, my dog got sprayed by a skunk AGAIN last night. This is 2 times in 3 months and we never had this happen at our old place!!! The smell was/is so pungeant I could barely get any sleep last night. I'm working from home today in hopes that I can squeeze in a nap.
ktdelsur: I might have experienced the feeling you're talking about. One time, I was on the phone at work and I just got dizzy and my heart started pounding. I got off the phone and drank some water and was totally fine in about a minute or so. It also happened when I was standing on line to pay at a counter. I felt like I just had to sit down. I wasn't able to sit anywhere but the feeling passed quickly, although it was a bit scary at the time.
pilotswife: I'm happy you were able to go home and that things are okay. I hope the babies stay put for a little while longer!
I found out on Friday that my Accelerated Childbirth Class is scheduled for Saturday November 5th and Saturday November 12th, from 10AM-5PM. DH and I opted for the Accelerated class rather than taking it over 8 weeks but doesn't early/middle November seem a bit close to my EDD (12/9)? The hospital said that it's always a month before the EDD.
I'm also taking a Breastfeeding class at a different hospital tomorrow. It's free at this hospital, thank goodness, since the other class is super expensive.
I had a depressing morning today...I grew out of two maternity shirts. I didn't think it would happen for a little while longer and didn't realize how much I have grown.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Good morning and Happy Monday to everyone!! This thread has moved so incredibly fast over the last few days, so theres no way I'm going to be able to do all the shout outs.
A few things though...
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the 3D u/s. Pretty cool eh?:)
ktdelsur I'm so glad you had a great shower and I really look foward to hearing about what you got and seeing pics!!
31 weeks 4 days
Well despite feeling like crap all weekend, I was able to cross a lot of things of my list.
Again this thread moved so quickly so I will only do mini shout outs.
pilotswife Welcome and I am so sorry about your scary experience. I am so glad you and your little guys are okay. I would have been so scared especially with my husband being away.
aprilbride2002 great belly shot!
ktdelsur I hope to see/hear more about your shower soon
feeling huge Yup, that's me too. I also think the little guy went through a growth spurt because his movements are much more noticeable now. The same amount, I just feel them way more.
jengen Sorry about your dog that just really well SUCKS. I am glad you enjoyed your classes too.
jrbnj you aren't alone, I put away a couple of tops I can't wear anymore either.
This week is a short week for me. This is the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. We get Monday off but I also took friday off too. I hope to plan a few errands on friday, take cat to vet, go to dentist etc. That's my plan anyways
Feeling Huge I'm always feeling huge and every time I look at my belly I wonder how is it going to get bigger!!!!
Heart Racing/Panic feeling/Dizzy I get this. I got it more early in the 2nd trimester and I'm just starting to get it again. My Dr. told me it is completely normal, it is not a panic attack, it is just your body reacting to the excess blood in your body or something like that.
Shower I had my first shower this weekend. Well the interesting thing, I was registry stalking and was nervous that nothing was going, well it is because my MIL didn't tell anyone where I was registered. OH well. We still got some great stuff. For big items, we got our monitor, our extra stroller (was told to register for one, that way you can keep it in one of the cars at all time and it is lighter than our Graco), mobile, diaper bag, Diaper Genie, Bundle Me for the car seat, and then lots of toys, books, bath stuff, bibs, etc. My MIL has the pics, so I will post some when I get them. There were 12 fo us there and it was just a ton of fun! I was very happy with it.
Body Parts Totally forgot to post this. DH is now feeling the body parts, well as am I. We found it's little butt, it is so tiny but it is so cute to think of. It pushes out on my belly and it makes it really easy to figure out that is the baby. So fun! Anyone else felt them yet?
Baby kicked DH in the stomach this morning when he was giving me a hug before he left for work. DH felt the kick through my belly (obviously), my shirt, his shirt and the sweater he was wearing - the kick was THAT HARD!!! We both suddenly realized I may be carrying a karate expert..... <chuckle>
First of all...holy crap how is it possible that I'm 30w already?!? Crazy.
Lots to catch up on here, but I took notes as I read so please excuse me if this post is massive. ;)
jaycee that 3D ultrasound is so amazing. I loved seeing it because it helped me try and visualize my little one. Thanks for sharing.
malala welcome!
ali&dc welcome! What an awesome story you have. And thanks for sharing your baby tips! As a 1st time mom I can use all the tips & advice available.
mamax2 fabulous belly shot!
jaredsgirl yikes! How scary. I hope you're taking care of yourself. I know it's so hard to be home and just sitting when there are so many things that seem to cry out for your attention.
kamileer & kinaida your conversation about babies being frank breech was interesting to me since that's the way my little girl was too during our ultrasound. I didn't even know it had an official name!
yoganut welcome to our group! I have a c/s question, but haven't wanted to post it in the thread in parenting because I feel like it's silly. Maybe you can answer it. As you know people love to tell pregnant women their horror stories. Lately people have been telling me that if I need to have a c/s my DH won't be allowed in the room. Is that true? When I watch 'A Baby Story' the husband is usually there. It's just that we know one person who had an emergency c/s and things were very touch & go for awhile with her. Her husband wasn't allowed in the room. Now everyone we know that knows her is telling me that my DH won't be allowed. Not having him there freaks me out more than anything. I really am not that particular about how our daughter is delivered as long as she's healthy, ya know. I guess I'm just wondering if your DH was in the room and if it wasn't as scary as some people make it out to be. Sorry to be so long and rambling, but I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Thanks!
pilotswife welcome! I remember you from the other site. I'm glad you're joining us over here. These ladies really are wonderful! Omigosh what a scary experience you had. I'm glad to hear things are okay now! Since you're having twins does your dr. expect you to deliver early? Take care of yourself!
ktdelsur I responded in your lj, but I just had to tell you good luck at your ultrasound tomorrow! I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything is a-okay!
And to all of those that follow along in our thread...thanks for introducing yourself! I admit that I read along in lots of other family planning groups, threads and parenting topics. One of the things that makes this site so great it all the information. But it's nice to know who's out there. :)
We had such a fun weekend!! We went on our annual trip with a large group of friends to Oktoberfest at this really cool Bavarian village in the mountains. It was a blast! I was (obviously) the dd this year, but it was still very fun. Although I'm pretty sure I'll have the polka stuck in my head for the next week or two...
Oh, and I think I passed my GTT. My drs. office said they would call by Friday if I failed and I never got a call. But I think I'll call today since I'm curious about my number.
I hope everyone is having a good start to their week! :)
fwgirlI saw your question to yoganut and just wanted to share with you what I learned in my childbirth prep class this weekend. My midwife told us that should should we need a true "emergency" c-section, our DH/coach would not be allowed in the room. However, if it is more routine, ie- planned in advance or the decision is made after hours of pushing, etc. (but baby is still doing ok) he would be allowed.
jaycee great belly shot! :)
fwgirl: I was going to try to answer your question about C-Sections too. I've heard exactly what jengen said. I also think that if you have general anesthesia (if they knock you out), then your DH won't be allowed in there. If you have an epidural, then he will be allowed in the room.
Freaking out about having a "Christmas Baby"
It happened to me again and I am NOT HAPPY. A complete stranger asked me when I was due over the weekend and I told her Dec 21st. To that she says, "My birthday is Dec 20th and it SUCKS. No one ever gives me good presents like my brother. It's the worst."
What ever happened to CONGRATULATIONS????
Maybe it is the pregnancy hormones in me but I wanted to SOCK HER.
Then my mom was talking about how she thinks we should go really light on Christmas presents for the baby considering that she'll have just had a shower. I don't mean to sound selfish but she wouldn't be saying that if our baby was due in October!
One of my good friend's b-day is 12/27 and she gave me these pointers (I can only HOPE that my family and her friends follow suit)
1) NEVER EVER wrap birthday presents in Christmas paper
2) Do not give birthday/Christmas presents
3) Throw your child birthday parties with themes that have nothing to do with the holidays.
Thanks jengen and JRPAGV for the c/s information. That makes sense. I'm definitely going to be asking about it at our childbirth class in two weeks. It's just one of those things I've been worrying about. And why is it that people feel the need to share their scary stories?! I hope I don't turn into "that person" after this pregnancy is over.
kamileer I was 21w at our u/s. Since we haven't had one since I have no idea if she's changed positions or not. I'm not worried about it, but it just seemed different from other u/s pictures I have seen.
eta: I love your friend’s tips about having a "Christmas baby." Those were the types of things I was thinking too. It bugs me when people make comments about how I timed this pregnancy so horribly. I want to respond with, "um, yeah, I'm just happy to be having a healthy baby thanks for sharing your opinion." But normally I just smile and change the subject. I think it's all about how we (as parents) approach it and make our children's birthdays special. It's still annoying when people make thoughtless comments though.
And I'm sorry your mom made you feel bad. Maybe you should talk to her about it? I bet she didn't even realize how it sounded to you. For what it's worth I don't think you sound selfish at all.
fwgirl: I've been freaking out about having to have a C-Section and DH not being there too. I am so scared that will happen. I definitely don't want a C-Section, but DH and I would be devastated if he couldn't be in the room when the baby's born. :(
Kami, I'm sorry your mom said that. That just doesn't seem fair, and I would have a talk with her about it sooner rather than later so that this year doesn't set the presidence for next year and so on..I don't think you sound selfish at all, and I would even make the same comparison to her that you did here about if the baby was born in Oct instead and how it wouldn't be the same :(
Wowser! Busy thread!
kamileer-My niece's birthday is December 22nd. We (the family as a whole) have never, EVER short-handed her on her birthday. Or Christmas for that matter. The thought that people would do that to a child is just plain mean, IMO. We most certainly wrap her birthday present in birthday paper, not Christmas paper, and if it just so happens that we don't get to see her until Christmas, well, then Julia's birthday present celebration comes before Christmastime. So that it's special to her and her only.
So, my nose is completely, totally blocked. I cannot breath out of it whatsoever. It completely sucks. I'm pretty sure it's my sinuses. Called the doc, and now I can't wait to leave to go to the store. He told me I could take over the counter Claritin and see if that helps. He also said some plain ol Robitussin wouldn't hurt either. At this point, I will do ANYTHING to breath again. Ack.
C-section We learned pretty much the same thing in class. Unless it is an emergency DH is there. You will spend some time alone while they prep you though. In class we had a demonstration of how many people will be in the operation room with you. Everyone from, the doctors, nurse for you to the doctors /nurses there for just the baby. I can't remember everyones position but she said there would be atleast 15 people in th OR with you. Mind you this could just be a canadian thing.
Kami My dad is a boxing day baby and has always enjoyed it because it prolongs the holidays. I think that is a good way of looking at it. My Dh's uncle is an Christmas Eve baby. The family always gets together on Christmas Eve to celebrate BUT there is ALWAYS a birthday cake for him that night.
Re: Christmas Baby - I know what you all mean. It makes me CRAZY when people say that I timed the pregnancy poorly. I'm not usually as nice as you all are though. I usually say something like, "well, I didn't actually time it at all because I'm supposedly sterile and DH and I weren't trying to get pregnant so I guess that means the baby is a miracle and what better time for a miracle baby to be born than Christmas?" Then I walk away wishing I'd held my tongue.
Re: C-section - DH has announced that he doesn't want to be in the room if I have a C-section. I'm sad, but I'll get over it. Actually, I'm devastated, but I'll still get over it. I'm not going to push him to be someplace he doesn't want to be, especially at such an emotional time. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed the Junior flips into the birthing position, but based on the kicks I'm feeling, the kid isn't cooperating.
Christmas Birthday I've heard this a lot too, even with my baby being due a little earlier in the month. People are like "oh, why did you do that to your kid?!" :rolleyes: One of my coworkers told me that her son's birthday is 12/28 or something like that and every year, in addition to getting their regular Christmas tree, they get a smaller one and call it "the birthday tree". It is decorated with all birthday-themed stuff and only his birthday presents go under there (not in Christmas wrap, either). She said that he loves is so much and gets so much attention over it every year, that her child NOT born in Dec ends up feeling slighted! :p Other people, who've had babies born in very early Dec told me that they would not decorate for Christmas until after their child's birthday. I can't see me doing that because I'm usually dying to do it the day after Thanksgiving!
c-sections Now that I think of it, I've never seen an episode of a baby story or the other reality baby shows where the DH was not in the room, except one where she needed to be completely under. I don't think you ladies need to worry. God willing, none of us will have to worry about emergencies. happygolucky that is too bad your DH feels that way! :( Everything is blocked off - he doesn't have to see anything if he doesn't want to, I think. I feel for you, I can't imagine what I'd do if DH told me that.
Chirstmas baby: Like someone else said, I think it's gonna be up to us as parents, to make sure our children's b-days are special.
I was born on 12/11, and my b-day was/is always special and a separate "event" from X-mas. Also DH's little half sister was born on 12/26, and the whole family makes it a point on that day being all about her b-day. We always get 2 different presents for her.
kamileer: I don't think you sound selfish at all, if I was you I'd talk to my mom, she probably didn't think much about it, or didn't mean it that way
Christmas Baby I know this is a point we all have brought up at one time or another since it is such a hot topic for those of us that celebrate Christmas. I have had people approach me, ask my due date, and then say how much their Dec. birthday sucks. My dad's birthday is on Dec. 31 and his did suck, but that was my grandparents fault, not his, since they would give him one gift for birthday and Christmas. Now that we always make a huge celebration out of it, he gets excited for his birthday (funny to watch a man who is going to be 54 this year get all excited about his birthday, he is already talking about it). Ours will definately have a seperate celebration that is not Christmas related. Our house will be decorated for Christmas but the party won't be themed that way.
C-section I don't really want to have one but I guess it won't be the end of the world if I do. I now see that I don't want to have an emergency c-section (well why would I want to) because DH can't be with me. That would be hard. My DH is really squimish but he will come in with me and just not look over the little tent set up. :)
Body Parts I forgot who asked me this, but the way we could tell it was the little butt was that we could feel along side the back, going up my belly, when that stopped, DH went across my belly then and felt where that stopped and then we figured it had to be the butt because it was the same width as the back, so just had to think about the different ways it could be sitting in there and what it was. Too cute!! :D
C-section odds Again this might only be in Canada, but the stats for c-sections are 1 in 5
body parts My little guy is always rubbing his bum up against my belly. I "think" I have felt legs or maybe they were arms, something other than his back or bum.
Oh my SIL went to another Mommy to mommy sale. I didn't go because I didn't want to get her baby sick. She went at the end of the sale and came upon an all boys table marked down because it was the end of the day. She bought me 10 outfits in PERFECT shape (Osh Gosh etc) for two bucks
What a deal!!!!!!
What a busy day!!
Pilotswife- How scary! Glad everything is ok. Just curious, I know twins are usually delivered early, but do they consider twins to term before sinlge births?
Body Parts - I haven't been able to figure any out. I feel a lot of kicks to the ribs so I am thinking his feet are up there.
Christmas Babies- My birthday is Dec 12 and I have always loved having my birthday around Christmas. I always had seperate birthday parties and never got shorted at Christmas. One of my sister's birthday is the 20th and my dad's is the 18th so they are common in my family. Now DH and I decided that we weren't going to get the baby much, maybe one small thing, for Christmas, but the grandparents will probably go crazy.
Hi December 05 Mommies!
Delurking - I am Dec 04 Mommy and sometimes pop in to reminisce!!
C-Section - I had an emergency C section - Afte hours of labor my DS had a cord issue. It was very similar to a baby story (and I am so glad I watched that because I knew what to expect.) My DH had to put on the outfit, wait for them to prep me then was right by my head the whole time holding my hand. He even was allowed to take pics. After the birth my DH went with my son while they finished me up. I hope that helps!
Pilotswife - Welcome and sorry about your scare. Hopefully everything will go well from now on.
ktdelsur - good luck at your ultrasound tomorrow. Hoping everything goes well.
jaycee and aprilbride - great belly shots!
Jaredsgirl and ktdelsur - Glad you both had good showers this weekend. Cant wait to see pictures!
Body parts - I am feeling and seeing them, but it is hard to tell what they are. I think there may be a foot in my ribs though because I often get pretty hard kicks there.
Christmas babies - my family has a lot of December birthdays including my own, so it is not really a big deal and no one ever feels shorted. That is really rude that people would make comments like that though.
kamileer - sorry your mom made such a comment, I would try to talk to her about it. l
I am SOOOoooo tired today! :(
comments on the holidays: I've lucked out in this dept. Everyone seems to say, "What a nice Christmas gift!" or something similar, which is a great response.
Pilot's Wife, welcome, and I'm so glad the boys are staying put! Sorry you had such a scare. I'm hoping they keep baking for you a while longer.
I'm too wiped to do all the shout outs...sorry everybody! Just wanted to come in and share my tiredness with you all. :o
This has happened a lot...I'll tell someone (usually a stranger who asks) that I'm due on December 9th, they're like "Oooooo, a Christmas baby!" I respond, with, "Hopefully not since I'm due in the beginning of December, hopefully a Thanksgiving baby!"
I'm sure all of the comments that the people get who are due closer to Christmas are annoying (but these days, it's easy to annoy me ;) )
I was in my doctor's office today and they did a Fetal fibronectin (FFN) test - it measures for a certain protein - if it's NOT present, then there is a less than 1% chance that I can deliver in the next 2 weeks. But (and this is a bit strange) if it IS present, it doesn't necessarily mean that I will deliver in the next 2 weeks. Apparently, it is a test that is stronger in its negative predictor power. I don't get the results until Wednesday morning. Tomorrow I have to go in for the 3 hour glucose test (I failed the 1 hour test). The next few days should be fun :o
Krbb & FwGirl - I've read here on the mother of multiples thread that most doctors consider twins to be full term when they reach 38 weeks, but I don't think that my doctor's office subscribes to this theory. The in-office u/s technician I saw about 3 weeks ago told me that they had a mother of twins who worked and commuted to NYC (as do I) went to 39 and a half weeks. Someone I work with just told me that his wife was actually late on her 40 week due date with twins. I've been figuring that I'd be delivering around the 38 week mark - putting it some where around December 8th - but at this point, who knows!
Body Parts - I haven't seen any body parts yet - just a lot of thuds where my shirt moves - I would love to see some feet!!
Christmas Baby - I think I've been lucky - most people have reacted like with e&d - they usually say something like, what a wonderful Christmas present. If anyone has said anything negative, I think I've unconsciously blocked it and didn't hear it.
fwgirl- The replies you got are exactly like my experience. DH was with me while we waited for me to go into the OR, he then waited outside while I got the epidural, and they inserted the catheter (not as bad as I was expecting). The only bad part was the meds made me sick, so he was scared to death hearing me dry heave from outside the or. They put up a drape and escorted him in. It was a little scary, but more because it was a new experience...not because DH wasn't there for the prep. In the end, it really wasn't bad. I don't know why people share those kinds of 'scary' stories...maybe because its like retelling 'war' stories or something. A supposed badge of honor? Doubt they realize how frightening they can be.
Mrsbuw- Sounds like the stats for Canada are about the same in the US. Last I heard, it was 20% here.
Christmas baby - Well, if the timing is bad...I am guilty of it twice over. :rolleyes: We made a point of distinguishing DS's b-day from Christmas. I don't think he notices yet, but we will definitely continue to make sure that's the case. I have also heard of people celebrating with a 'half-birthday' party in June, so the kids can have all of their friends together for a traditional party.
One advantage - you can take care of birth announcements and holiday cards in one fell swoop! We made our own last time, and made the message "Celebrating the arrival of our precious gift!" We had a photo of DS sleeping with a tiny santa hat on...so cute!
aprilbride- I hope you feel better! You might want to ask about sutafed as well. I have always gotten the OK on it from my obs, took it several times with DS#1 as well as this go around.
Have a great evening!
on C-sections: fwgirl, I hate that people are telling you horror stories! One of my good friends had an absolutely lovely C/S story -- it wasn't an ideal birth, of course, and it wasn't an emergency but just a result of her failure to progress. But her experience was really a great moment, the way she describes it, of her and her husband there welcoming their child into the world. I certainly don't want a C/S, and I plan to do everything I can do avoid one. But if I need one, I want to be able to look at it the way my friend does. I think (general) you have as much power in making that happen as anyone does.
aprilbride, I'm so sorry that you're feeling so bad! I have horrible sinus problems as a rule, so I know just how awful that congestion and pressure can make a person feel. Be sure you're getting plenty of fluids -- I know that it helps me the slightest bit, but every bit counts! Maybe you'll want to try a hot toddy before bed -- it's only a wee bit of alcohol, shouldn't affect the baby at all, and might do a lot towards helping you get some much needed rest.
PilotsWife, welcome and what a scary situation you were in with the twins! My husband is away right now for the entire month of October, and I can only imagine how much more I would panic if something happened with him away. And your husband must have been worried sick! Fingers are crossed for your FFN *and* your 3-hr (I had to do the 3-hr, so I feel your pain)!
kamileer, I agree with everyone else, talking to your mom about how you feel seems like the best thing to do. I'm sorry that she said that, though -- I wish people would just be a little more sensitive with us preggos, even when folks mean well they can really do a number on us!
Jaycee and aprilbride, great belly shots! Adding mine to the mix below -- I'm feeling utterly enormous (the woman today at the store whose eyes got as big as saucers when I told her my due date and went on to say that she just didn't see how I was going to make it didn't help matters). Oh well. We'll see how I'm measuring on Wednesday at my next appointment...
Janna, can you add it to my progression when you get a chance?
Hope I haven't missed too much. We seem to have a lot less members than some of the other months, yet we seem to grow faster as well! Trying to keep up... :)
Can this be added to my progression? Thanks.
Everybody's belly shots look so great!
Re: Horror stories - I hate hearing them in general, not just with regard to C-sections. I swear - I feel like I can't say to someone, "yes, it's my first baby," without that person coming back with some derivation of, "your life is about to go to hell in a handcart. It may have been all about you until now, but in another couple of weeks, you aren't going to mean squat and it's going to be all about the baby." Uh - thanks, mister. What'd you say your name was again?
I have a question - does anybody feel like their pregnancy is keeping with the old wives' tales? Obviously, if you're going for a surprise (like me), you won't know one way or the other until the baby comes, but for those of you who know the gender, what do you think? I sort of feel like I'm splitting the tales down the middle - I'm carrying high, which I've heard means girl, but my face hasn't changed at all and people keep saying I look good, which means boy. Is anybody else either fitting the old wives tales to the letter, not fitting them at all or splitting the difference?
30 weeks 1 day
Hi everyone - the bellys look lovely!
happygolucky
Regarding old wive's tales, I've found that some of them have held true for me. People say I look exactly the same with just a belly and I feel great, which they say means boy. I am carrying high though and his heartbeat has always been above 140 (both of which they say mean girl).
I have a question for everyone - Have people been generally kinder to you? I commute into NYC every day and some people can be so rude. I mean, I don't expect the red carpet to be rolled out for me everywhere I go, but sometimes people are so caught up with themselves that they don't notice and shove past me. The escalators were down today so I got on the elevator in train station. A man got in and actually shoved his bag into my belly! The other passengers screamed at him to move. Of course, the baby proceeded to kick me for the rest of my walk to work - just letting me know that he wasn't happy. I actually got on the train one night and they were short a few cars. No one got up for me and I had to stand for the entire ride home. I kept getting that "I don't see you" look from people. I guess that because I always was the one that would get up when I saw pregnant women get on the train that someone would do the same for me. Oh well!
jdevaz - I live and work in NYC and I've found it's a pretty mixed bag. There are days when I'll get into the subway and multiple people will jump up and offer me their seats. Then there are days when I'll get into the subway and nobody moves. They stare at me, but they don't move. It's just the way of the big city, I guess, but sometimes (like when my back and feet are aching), it just sucks.
Here are my two progression belly shots for the first page, janna. I've been so bad about updating. I look so bloated at 25 weeks! Reminder to self, take belly shots in the am only! :D
Everyones' bellies look great! :)
Old Wives Tales I have gained weight in all of my problem areas - butt, thighs and obviously stomach, however, everyone says "oh, you are carrying just like a boy because you haven't gained any weight in your face or arms". I think it is all just how your body is. Before the baby was giving me a real belly, everyone was saying "girl". I had two friends due with girls less than a month apart and one was carrying all belly and low and one was carrying all over and high. I think it just depends on your body type.
Have People Been Nicer Yes and No. I find strangers to be much less kind than my friends and coworkers have been. Sometimes, my coworkers and friends ask me how I'm doing so much that it gets annoying. I guess I should consider myself lucky, cause in a little over two months, it will be all about the baby! :)
Everyones belly shots are looking great!!
jdevazFunny you mention that this morning...I work in a downtown area where theres a lot of foot traffic. This morning while crossing the street at the walk signal, I guess I was a little slower than normal, and so the do not walk signal came on before I got fully across the street. Well, this asshole decides she's in a rush and starts budging into the walk lane and almost hits me. It almost seemed as if she did it on purpose, so I turned and faced her windshield, stood right in front of her car, gave her the bird, and yelled F-U Bitch. There were other people walking across the street too and they were all in agreeance with my reaction to her, and I got a few nods of approval with that move :D
jdevaz
10-04-2005, 07:34 AM
Jaycee I love that reaction - I've been tempted to do the same many times. I do find myself telling some of these people exactly how I feel under my breath - just loud enough for them to hear me.:D
Jaycee
10-04-2005, 07:43 AM
jdevaz hehe..I normally would have refrained from that reaction and also murmered it under my breath, but I think pregnancy has taken away that filter in me. It just sort of happened :D
...and it sure felt good!!
Jaycee Good for you!!! What a b*tch! I got into a little swearing match with a truck driver a couple of weeks ago, something I would never have done if I wasn't preggors
Have People Been Nicer For the most part yes. Co-workers, friends and family for sure. Strangers, I find will open the doors for me more. Other than that it hasn't been that different. I do find people smile at me more, mostly old ladies.
Old wives tales I have been told over and over again that I look like I am carrying a boy. At this point I feel like I have gained over all, butt, thighs arms, face but I have a huge bulbous belly.
Great belly pics everyone. I need to take some more pictures, I find I have become really lazy taking pictures.
People being nicer: I second the "Yes and No" reaction. Like jengen said, sometimes they ask "How are you feeeeeeeeeeeeeling?" so much its annoying. But, I haven't had to do a lot of carrying things/running errands, etc, at least not as much as I usually do.
Way to go JAYCEE. I would have done the same thing.
I got so angry with some people in Target the other day I just had to leave. I was tired and cranky and would have said something I might have regretted. I'm waddling down the right side of the main thoroughfare headed towards the cash register, and this lady comes waltzing right out of one of the aisles on the right, didn't look before she came bolting out - and comes out and turns around to look at the items on the endcap, standing RIGHT in front of me and I almost mowed her down. How could she miss this big thing waddling at her?! I said something like, "Uhm, excuse you" and walked on by...but geez. I've had the grocery store clerks INSIST on taking my groceries to the car for me even though I'm perfectly capable of loading them myself.
Horror stories:We had some random European delegates from the Netherlands come and see our hospital facilities recently, and I had to go and take photos of their visit as they surveyed some of our equipment. They were all men, and very friendly, speaking very good English. One in particular asked me "how many months are you" and told me his wife had a baby two weeks before, then proceeded to tell me how awful she said it was, and in his semi Arnold Schwartzenegger accent, told me she said it was like "Sh*tting out something really large". Lovely. Thank you. What was your name again?
A friend of my SIL this weekend at my shower was telling me some story about an emergency c-section where the baby almost died because it got stuck in the birth canal, etc. My SIL dragged her away saying, "Shut up! Don't tell her stuff like that....geeez!" But...some people just don't think before they talk. :rolleyes:
