View Full Version : "Angry" music, anyone?

Does anyone else have an "anger management" song? When I'm feeling angry, I put on music- loudly- and sing- again loudly- until I feel better. Anyone else do this, too?
My favorite "angry" song is "One Angry Dwarf"- Ben Folds Five, but I can also make do with, well, any song that involves yelling where I know the words. ;)

I'm big on expressing my feelings by listening to music that fits that mood (aka music therapy).
Some of my angry songs (past and present):
- Zombie (the Cranberries)
- You Oughta Know (Alanis Morrisette)
- Perfect (Simple Plan) (not so much yelling, though)
Can't think of others, but most of them were in the mid-90s during those wonderful college years. :D

When I have a really bad day at work (or school when I was in school), I play~
'Break Stuff' by Limp Bizkit
I crank it up really loud in my car and play it several times in a row...it is such a release for me.

I have lots of "angry" songs, but I like them even when I'm not mad or upset, so I hear them often:
-Linkin Park: Hybrid Theory (entire album)
-Pantera: Walk
-Saliva: Always
-Three Days Grace: (I Hate) Everything About You
-Disturbed: Fear
-NIN: Head Like a Hole
-Godsmack: I Stand Alone
-Godsmack: Greed
-System of a Down: Toxicity
-Staind: For You
...There's more, but I'll stop there. I like heavy, angry music. Which is kind of funny, because I'm usually pretty light-hearted. Whatever. :)

This is how I generally feel about music as well. I love all the songs you posted! I gravitate to that sound for some reason, which is really funny b/c on the other end of the spectrum I adore the Dixie Chicks and Indigo Girls!!
However, my 'angry song' is just the one that I go to when feeling really pissed at people!! Eventhough, I would still be listening to that type of music on the radio driving home regardless of how I felt.

Yeah, I don't have a specific "angry" song. I just always have that music on in the car. If I'm in a good mood, it's usually just background noise. If I'm having a bad day, I'm right there screaming along with them. :)
I too love music like the Dixie Chicks and Indigo Girls. I have all kinds of different playlists on my iTunes - Funk, Dance (hip hop/rap), "Quiet" (which is really just quieter stuff by the metal bands listed above - for example, Godsmack's "Serenity" is one of my faves), Hard (like the songs I listed), R&B, Pop (so I can get my N*Sync fix ;) ). But I always default back to the heavy stuff!

Oh me too! It really makes me feel better, too! Hehe.
I also enjoy (depending on why I'm irritated, of course):
Disturbed - Down With The Sickness
NIN - Terrible Lie
Limp Bizkit - Counterfeit
Nickelback - Figured You Out
Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up or Firestarter
Three Days Grace - I Hate Everything About You
Linkin Park - Meteora (CD)

I am also one of those that listen to angry music most of the time! I have to be careful about what's going to come out of my speakers when my nieces are in the car, because most of it is not suitable for children.
I heart all things NIN and Trent Reznor!

This is the BEST song! I keep the Rage cd in my car for my road age attacks!! This whole cd is therapeutic. I ahve to make sure people are not around me since I tend to scream the songs on top of my lungs.

I prefer the term 'intense' music. 'Angry' is more of an attribute to 'intense' music. ;)
That said...
The angry stuff I'm listening to lately:
1) Skipknot - The Blister Exists
2) Fear Factory - Act of God
3) My Chemical Romance - I'm not Okay
4) NIN - Ruiner
5) Deftones - My Own Summer
6) Rob Zombie - House of 1000 Corpses
7) KMFDM - WWIII
8) PIG - Sinsation
9) Korn - Daddy
10) The Team Titans Theme Song (It's annoying enough to make ME angry.)

3) Korn "So You Want a Single?" (This one is GREAT!!)
4) Godsmack "Serenity"
5) Cranberries "Zombie"

for cynical anger: Tool - Aenema
defiant woman angst: Ani Difranco - Talk to Me Now & Not a Pretty Girl

Did you happen to catch them together in concert last year? AWESOME!

I agree completely with the suggestions of Prodigy's "Fat of the Land" and Rage Against the Machine's "Rage Against the Machine" and "The Battle of Los Angeles". The Urge's "Receiving the Gift of Flavor", Deftones' "Adrenaline", and Pennywise's "Pennywise" are also really good "angry" music. :)

A lot of songs by Tori Amos... Precious Things is a good one.
I saw Tori live about six years ago, and she opened with an absolutely slamming version of Precious Things. It was an amazing and unforgetable experience. :D

I second that the whole Prodigy Fat of the Land album is great.
I use it often when I am running on the treadmill. I run out all my frustration to "Smack My Bitch Up", and the end of the CD is really good for a cool down.
However, back on topic, my angry song is a Bjork song called "Pluto". It is great for yelling out your agression. :)

I came into this thread to post that song, too. It is great for when I'm feeling hostile or my co-workers ticked me off or even if I'm just grumpy. I normally don't like my music really loud , but for that song - the louder the better.

Bob Dylan's Positively 4th Street because he basically is able to say
F--- You without saying the F word.
Ani DiFranco in general, but I really like Not So Soft
Steve Earle. In particular, some of the lyrics at this link:
http://www.steveearle.net/lyrics/ly-jerusalem.php#Jerusalem
Pete Seeger's union songs
Angry music IS my music. Slayer, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, Anthrax, Black Label Society, Down, Metallica (OLD ONLY), Megadeth, Corrosion of Conformity, Slipknot...ah, the list goes on and on.
I'm an old school metal head too but I also like some of the less, shall we say, overt angry music. i.e. Neil Young "Rockin' in the Free World", Tori Amos "Waitress", Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young "Ohio", Jackson Browne "Lives in the Balance", The Beatles "Back in the U.S.S.R." etc.
