I don't know why they got rid of this thread...Natasha (asianbear07) started it when the boards first went up!!
We're looking at May 12, 2007. We've found our reception site, but in the midst of budgeting for our new apartment we've kind of put that on hold
BTW: _mm_, your wedding is the day after my birthday;) Very good day!!
Happy planning girls!!!
Jen
Jen,
Originally, we wanted 4/13 --- but the site only allow weddings on Saturday.
We are going to do food tasting at the site in first week of October, if all goes well, then we will book it ( ceremony and reception in one place ).

Yay! I was hoping we could get a 2007 Bride thread going.
We are shooting for April 28, 2007.
Is anyone getting grief for your wedding being so far way? It's a specific look people give you when you say you aren't getting married until 2007. KWIM?

Yep and that's why we aren't talking about it with many people. Pretty much just my parents and his kids. For me, 2006 is just too soon. We are (hopefully) closing on our house next month. I'm supposed to start graduate school next year. A wedding would just be too much for me.
We seriously discussed just going away for a weekend and getting married just the two of us. I am just not into the big wedding thing and it isn't what either of us want to spend our money on. We both were pretty happy with the idea but my mom and his daughters freaked out when we suggested it. If I could have it my way, that is what I would do.

I hear you on that one. Many sites told me that they don't even have 2007 pricing out and many do not book longer than 1 year in advance. :o

When we first got engaged, in June of 2005, we picked out 07-07-07 for our date. Now we have changed our mind and want either May 12th or August 11th. :)
I guess it depends on if the reception site we choose is available. I am just worried about it being too hot in July, that is why were wanted to change the date.
Now if we could just find a reception location! :p
And oh yes, I know that look you are talking about! I especially hate the look I get when I tell them we are waiting till 2007 because of surgery and my braces. They all roll their eyes and say, "Oh, you just don't want to get married with your braces on?!?" and give me this kind of "Come on!" look. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?! Who would WANT to get married with BRACES!!!!

Got a question for you 2007 Brides: When are you going to ask your girls to be your BMs? After reading several people's stories about having 'asking parties' I've decided thats something I totally want to do. I want to make it a fun night out for the girls but I don't want to do it too early or too late. I was thinking maybe Christmas would be a good time to 'ask', when everyone will be back in the general area. We are getting married in April 2007 so if I ask in December, the wedding would still be a little over a year away. If I don't ask in December, it might not be until July 2006 when we are all together again.
Any advice floating around out there.

I've had several friends who say they regret asking too far in advance. I'm using FH's daughters as bridesmaids, so I don't have to do the formal asking. (They just starting screaming and asking "Can I be your bridesmaid? Can I be your bridesmaid? ;) ) If I were, I'd probably do it no more than a year in advance. Probably closer to 9-10 months.

We're thinking of either 12-15-07, 12-29-07 or (please no) 2-16-08.
We haven;'t told anyone (business-wise) about the wedding, because we're doing it all by ourselves... although we do have our friend and his two brothers to do the catering for us!

Welcome and congrats to Beckyann, Lauren and Puravida!
Just an update. We have officially booked the church for April 21, 2007. And I know you guys are going to think I'm crazy but I've already fallen in love with a wedding dress and bought it. My mother and I went to a Monique L'Huillier trunk show last weekend. Mainly we went to just get some general ideas about her gowns because she is my favorite designer. Well -- there is no such thing as "just getting ideas". If you try a dress on and fall in love, you really can't help it. So yep, my wedding is a year and a half away and I already have a dress!!! It will take 6 months to make so I will not get it back until this summer but it's officially official: I've got the dress, I'm getting married! It feels really great! :D
Anyone else already putting things on stone? Buying dresses, booking sites, etc?
I just booked our site for April 14, 2007 yesterday.
Wheewww, first big decision down. :-)

Hello all,
Congrats to all of you who have your dresses already! That is wonderful. I'm not trying on dresses until next year. I still have 12 lbs to lose before I even think of trying any on. Good to know about the trunk shows. I plan to attend them in the spring. I guess I should bring the credit card & check book according to what you are all saying.
We are working on our guest list now & the save the dates, which will go out in Jan/Feb. FH is designing them himself, he's so excited he gets to do that.
I don't plan on asking my BM formally until next year. The already know, my 3 sisters know of course.

I'm here! I'm here! And now that its 2006, 2007 doesn't sound as far away!! Yay! We are getting closer ladies!!
My mother found her mother's garter the other day when she was at my grandparents house. Both my grandmother and mother wore the garter in their wedding and I will do the same. It's blue so it's my something old, borrowed, and blue! :D I also got a Wedding Planning book for Christmas so I've been working in that which has been lots of fun!
Done:
Wedding Dress
Something old, borrowed and blue: Grandmother's Garter
Church and minister booked
Bridal party asked
Day-Of Wedding Coordinator hired
Florist (provided he doesn't die...i know that sounds morbid but its a possibility)
How's everyone else doing? According to knot.com it's only 475 days until our wedding:p

Hi everyone!
I got engaged last month and we've tentatively decided on May 2007 for our wedding. :) The only things I've done so far are:
Ask FSIL to be my BM.
Ask my two sisters to be my maids of honor.
Went to Davids Bridal once and tried on about 5 dresses.
I've figured out the style dress I like and I'm on a hunt to find it cheaper somewhere else. :p

Hey everyone!
Another fellow 2007'er here....we're planning on April 28th, 2007. Still in the looking process, but like a few others, I already have my wedding dress :D . I'm getting mine from Alfred Angelo. I went in with all intensions of just "trying on", because my mum and I had talked about making my dress. Tried on a few in the style i liked, and then my fiance found one in their magazine that he liked. I put it on and it was love at first sight for both of us!! I at least waited til that coming weekend to order it though because they had a nice big sale ;) Other than that, here's whats coming up:
Bridal Party - people have been decided on, but wont be asked until later (except for my cousin who i called and squealed at when he asked me to marry him)
Reception/Ceremony location - Still working on this one, because we're trying to find a place that will have both an outdoor ceremony location, plus have on site (or pretty darn close) an indoor reception area. Any of you central PA girls give me a shout if you have ideas!

Ugh...wedding stress already....and there's still more than a year to go!! We've been checking out reception sites for the past 2 months, give or take, and my FH and I are having a bit of a "varying" opinion. While we have the same tastes, I'd rather have it somewhere where its cheaper per head, that way I can put more money towards decorations/favors/flowers/etc. While he on the other hand wants somewhere more "unique". And so far unfortuantely unique has equalled expensive. Anyone else having drama yet?

I've gotten 2 big things accomplished lately.
1) bought my dress
2) found the reception place I want. My mom is supposed to book it today, so I'm waiting for her call to confirm that. Once that is done, we'll have our date.
Not too stressed out yet - but figuring out the reception place was huge in taking some of the pressure off.

Okay, I'm bumping this thread.
After over a year of ups and downs with life getting in the way, FH and I have FINALLY decided on August 4, 2007:D YAY!
So far we have the following:
-Possible reception (I'm haggling the deposit)
-Either his church or the gazebo where he proposed for the cermony
-One of my bf's will be designing and making our invites, STDs, programs, and things like that
-My friend Trish's mom (bnaseleen) will be making our cake
Other things that we've decided on are the color scheme, flowers (no florist yet), I've found the dress I want, possible BM dresses, we know pretty much who we want standing up with us. We'll have 4-5 each.
Whew...I think that's it. I know I'm forgetting a lot of stuff, but I'm in the process of getting everything up in my journal!!
Good luck planning everyone.....how's it coming along??

Well, I'm chiming in in hopes that things go according to plan! I'm not actually engaged, but I've been dating my BF off and on for 12 years (we met when I was 16 - definitely not 12 years straight. No way am I that patient!), almost the full last 2 years. It's funny, even when we weren't dating, or were actually both dating other people, we both said we'd end up married (and probably divorced and re-married to each other several times:rolleyes: !), and the night we got back together we both knew. I was ready to get married the next day, and he was too - that night - but he got scared and has stayed scared since then. I'm finally graduating with my B.S. in December, and I finally told him a month and a half ago that it's time for him to figure out where he is. My lease is up and I'm moving in September, and I told him that I need to know by then whether I need to be looking for houses and wedding dresses or jobs somewhere else. I usually hate ultimatums, but I figure that after nearly 12 years, giving someone 3 months to figure out whether the benefits outweigh their fears and risks isn't really a true ultimatum. SO...we had talked about going to look at rings, and I happened to pop into a jewelry stor and find the most beautiful, perfect ring - antique platinum setting with square cut center diamond and sapphire accents - that unbelievably fit perfectly. I told him about it, and didn't really expect much of a reaction, but as it turns out, he's asked me tons of questions about it, and I found out that he has FINALLY talked to his mom about it for the first time ever. Long story short, unless something happens and he gets spooked and freaks out, I should be a 2007 bride!! :D Yay!! It's about time!

Oh my goodness! I'm not sure if I could have handled 12 years  I will second your "it's about time!" Congratulations, and hopefully he won't get spooked! Welcome to the 2007 Brides:D

Thanks Jen! If it had been 12 years straight, I probably would have killed him by now, but I really think that since we were so young when we met (I was 16, he was 19), it's a good thing that we both took time to date other people and have other experiences. It just makes it so much more solid that we found our way back to each other after all of that, you know? Thanks for the welcome - I'm looking forward to reading everyone's ideas and plans, and I'm sure you guys will hear about what's going on with mine!!

Oh we'll definitely want to know what's going on with yours! Do you have an idea of month or season yet? Tim and I are on our 5th date (2 spring, 1 summer, 2 late summer/fall) so I'm hoping it doesn't change again, otherwise I'l be killing him;)

We haven't even decided on a wedding or eloping!! I've never really understood spending that much $$ on one day, but he wanted a wedding (I think he just wants the reception, to tell you the truth), even though I was loved our 1st plan - the two of us on a beach in Jamaica. Then I realized that I would regret not having at least immediate family there, and of course, the same time, he switched to my side about Jamaica!!
One of the big issues is religion - he's Catholic (non-practicing) and I'm Methodist (somewhat practicing) - so he was worried about his family's reaction to a non-Catholic wedding (with my family, as long as we're married in an overall Christian wedding that's fine), and I've dug my heels in and said that I'll get married in a Catholic church on 3 conditions: 1) joint ceremony w/ Methodist minister, 2) I'm not having a full Mass (WAY too long, but mostly b/c I can't take Communion and I don't want a part of my wedding neither I nor my family can be a part of) and 3) (the REAL biggie) I'm not agreeing to raise kids Catholic. I'm fine with them being baptized Catholic, but I want them to grow up with both and make their own decision when they are old enough.
The irony (I still can't decide whether to laugh or bang my head against my desk) is that in the email from his mom where I found out that he had talked to her, she suggested a courthouse wedding - so much for his argument that his mom would have a stroke without a Catholic wedding! Needless to say, we haven't talked about it since then (he's been a little busy eating crow!;) ), but I've decided not to talk about it too much (at least with him) til he actually proposes. Since he's such a scaredy cat, I'm afraid that talking about it will just scare him more!

Glad I'm not the only one!! My little sis got married in March - afternoon wedding heavy hors d'oeurves, no alcohol, 1 attendant each, maybe 125 guests, and not an outrageous dress (less than $700 + alterations) - and her wedding was $15,000!!!! The whole time, I kept thinking that that was one heck of a downpayment on a house!!

I'm also A 2007 bride. August 4, 2007 to be exact. I have some planning done already:
church booked
priest set up
reception site booked
dj/violinist booked
dress
It is a nice start, I think. I won't have time to do much more until Thanksgiving or Christmas when I am finally home again (moved the beginning of June to be in same city as FH, after a year and a half apart). I can't beilieve that it is less than a year off.

Apparently I got to feeling froggy this weekend. I mentioned that my mom, sis, and I were going to browse for dresses. I ended up trying some on, and fell completely in love. I made a point not to look at any prices while I was trying them on (no point in giving myself a heart attack), but when I found "the one," I finally looked at a price - and couldn't believe how inexpensive it was!!! All 3 of us thought it would have been much more than it was. Anyway, while I was changing back into my own clothes, my sis kept asking me if I was sure that was "the dress" (she hates shopping, so I thought she was probably just trying to get out of another shopping excursion:rolleyes: ), and I told her yes. Well, when I got out of the dressing room, she had bought the dress and told me congratulations, it was an early wedding gift:eek:  !! I also went Saturday and picked out the new e-ring I want (did I post about the antique one having problems and being way overpriced?), and BF actually likes this one, and made a comment today about going by there this week (we'll see...)! So, long story short, he doesn't even know that I looked at dresses, let alone tried them on. And if he knew that I bought one (or got it as a gift either one!), he'd really have a stroke. And it's killing me not to tell him!! We are going to look at a couple of houses Saturday :D - I'm very excited about that, especially since he knows that I won't live with him before we're married. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next month!! I'll post a couple of pics of the dress and the new ring in my journal tomorrow - I just wanted to share!!!

Thanks!! Sounds like you're making great progress, and with plenty of time to spare!! We looked at houses today, and I'm pretty sure we found the one we want. The problem is that it'll be ready to move into at the end of November, which is WAY faster than we really wanted. (I'm thinking March wedding, and I won't move in before we're married.) I love the idea of him living there on his own for a while since he's never lived by himself, and I love having plenty of time to get everything settled in and organized so that after the wedding, it's an easy transition. But it doesn't help with trying to save $$ at all, so I don't know. I really think that we're leaning towards yes, though. He cracked me up on the way home - he made the comment that the only thing that's stressing him out about it is that its so many major $$ things at once between a down payment and an engagement ring. I told him that I don't care about the ring, the house is more important because I'd much rather have somewhere to live and I just want to marry him. He disagrees - this ring thing is a WAY bigger deal to him than it is to me!! (Don't get me wrong, I love the ring I've picked out, but it doesn't help all that much in terms of sleeping and showering, you know??)

Tentative Date: November 11, 2007. It even rhymes :)
I'm not so sure now, though. His parents apparently questioned the 'far-offness' of our date.
I'd love to move it up, but budgetwise I'm not sure we can. On the other hand, it might be a good incentive to cut costs.
After all the romance come the practicalities :)

09-13-2006, 05:15 PM
I've not yet encountered booked places, although I'm not looking higher end.
Rather, I'm trying to save money and am frustrated by how insane it all is!
So many fees! Yet it doesn't seem possible to go simple without giving up completely on what I want.
Too many options, I think.
I want to book a place before they're gone, but which one? Aack!

FoxyBlue: I came up against the same thing... the prices are so discouraging. I want a nice wedding, but i don't want it to be over the top... i think it is rediculous how expensive everything is... just keep looking though, you will find stuff.
FoxyBlue
09-14-2006, 08:45 PM
I'm finding stuff, but I'm searching so thoroughly that it kinda takes some of the fun out of it. Especially when I watch "Whose Wedding is it Anyways" and get jealous :)
On the other hand, I feel like sticking it to the Wedding Industry and doing it as cheaply as possible. It's quite an exercise in research. I have a growing binder filled with contracts and info and clipped inspiration pics. I also have a WEDDING folder with sub-folders on my computer to keep all the pictures I've accumulated in my online searches.
I'm starting to get information overload!
Anybody doing any fun things together during their engagement? Someone suggested I actually enjoy this time, which thought honestly NEVER occurred to me.... sad, isn't it? :)

It does get crazy........
I can sympathize with you all. We were originally shooting for July 2007 and we were getting discouraged by all the work having to be put into it and then the $$ (we are paying for it) we were going to start to lay out and just said, FORGET IT! We went with January 6 and just are doing our best to find deals but stay within our budget. We cut our guest list in half and said, we want small elegant and affordable. So far, cross my fingers, it's been going good.
Don't let others bother you, this day is special and it's your day with your future husband........

I think (I hope!) that I have found a really good potential venue :) We are supposed to go by tomorrow afternoon. They will actually be having a reception at the time, so we will get to see it decorated.
I'm hoping we can sneek a peek without interrupting... I really would like to see it at it's full potential.
It's main perk? Unique features and built in sound system aside, it's inexpensive! It *appears* to be very nice. I'm hoping there's not a catch :)
This would really help me allocate more money elsewhere!

I'm getting married March 10th.. yes thats like 162 days away! I'm not stressing like I thought I would be. We have the venues booked... the the DJ, the Cake Lady, the caterer, the decorater...the bridesmaids dresses are in, my dress is bought and in my closet, colors are picked... thats it. I'm not stressed! I'm student teaching and concentrating on that, and in December I'm going to find a florist, most didnt want to talk to me with the wedding so far off, and it being in March. the most stress I've dealt with are the people who thought they SHOULD be in the wedding and arent. oh well

Another 2007 bride but we are basically eloping although techinically it is a destination wedding. The date will be either May 21 or 22nd as we are taking a cruise and getting married while in the port of St. Thomas. We have not booked yet as we are waiting to see if my FFIL will have that particular week off.
I'm going dress shopping today as I still have not found a dress. We know the photographer we want to use along with the location, and the coordinator which is pretty much all we need. Our "reception" will be dinner on the cruise ship and we've decided to forego a wedding cake.

It's been a while since I've posted in here, but since then we actually changed venues completely...a new church and reception location! I guess one of the bad things about having such a long engagement is finding things that fit more with what you want as time goes on (which isn't really bad, just can be costly!)

Leslie-Are you married now?
My last post in here I stated we were having a destination wedding. That changed to just the two of us and my FIL's at a B&B about an hour from our home. The cruise did not work out so we went back to the drawing board and after about 2 weeks of frustration and crying we just booked the place sight unseen. We have an appointment this weekend to go see it. Unless the pictures are completely misleading I'm sure we will love it. Thankfully, if the place is awful we can still cancel and get our deposit back.
Oh and our date is 04/21/07. :)
