I finally got my very first pedicure today and now I see why people love it! The woman massaged my legs and feet, and had me soaking my legs in a warm bath, all the while I was sitting in a massaging chair. Talk about luxury! And only $20.
I've been so stressed out lately, so I decided that I needed to do something for myself. I was right. Boy, I have GOT to pamper my self more often!
Pedicures can be addicting, can't they? :)

Pedicures are very addicting! What kept you away for so long? Did you also get hot towels put over your legs after they massaged them? Oh, and next time you get a pedi, try a parafin dip ;)
welcome to the darkside DD - they'll be no going back now!:D

Parafin dips are awesome. I ended up buying one of those home parafin things so I can do it all the time.

I haven't done it because I've never had extra money laying around, and I've never had the time. Lately I've realized that I HAVE to make time for myself and sometimes you need to splurge just a little. Really, for 30 minutes of luxury, a pedi is soooo worth it. And my feet look better than they ever have in my life!
I didn't do the parafin thing, maybe next time. They didn't do hot towels on my legs either.
What do you ladies normally pay for a pedi?

I go to a local asian nail salon (not a Mario Trico.) and I pay about $25. This includes the actual "spa" pedi (foat soak, massaging leather chair, foot/leg rub, hot towel treatment, polish).
If they do "special" things (french pedi or designs) it will be more.

I had my first pedi about a year ago. I took my MIL for her birthday and we both had them done. (She had never had one either). I have had a couple more since then. They are absolute heaven! And you are right DD, even if money and time are tight, you need to take some time for yourself and treat yourself every now and then! :)

I remember my first pedi - I went to a spa and paid $65.00 for it!! Of course, I couldn't fully relax because I'm so ticklish.....but it still was heaven! I wore my own sandals out and couldn't walk cause my legs were TOO relaxed! Ahhhh.....

I just went last week and got my first pedi, I think I overpaid... it was 35 for the pedi, 40 for pedi, mani, I will not be back for the mani, but the pedi was so so so great. I always thought I would be weirded out by someone touching my feet, but I was so relaxed that it was ok. I will definatly go back (after finding out other prices) it makes you feel so beautiful!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And they are addicting! I get one every two weeks because I am always in sandals or flips flops or barefoot. In Florida, they are pretty much a necessity all year long.
If I go to a small nail place, like the one near my house, I pay $25.
If I go to a spa, it costs me between $40 and $50.

That's great that you liked it! My first (and last) experience was not so pleasant.
I had a pedi the night before my wedding. She poked and filed and ripped at my skin and cuticles. I was bleeding all over. By the next day, when I put my wedding shoes on, my feet were still tender. The photog took close-ups of my shoes, and all I can see when I look at those pictures are the scabs all over my toes. Plus walking in the shoes all day tore the scabs off.
Never. Ever. Again.

Yikes! The person I went to was recommended by a friend, so I knew that she was 'good'.

I had my first pedi on my wedding day and loved it! I have only gone one other time since and I am thinking it is time to go again!
I paid $40 for a spa pedi and mani. Totally worth it!

I *love* pedis! They're totally addictive. There is this guy Craig at my neighborhood salon who does the best job on my feet. His pedis are expensive, but *so* worth it. :)
Pricing depends. If I go to the little Asian shop (on every block) then I pay about $15-$25. But if I want to feel pampered (oooh baby!) I got to a mani/pedi spa place and pay $25-$40 (with tip, depending on flowers or not, and how extreme I go with the spa treatment). I love, love, love my pedis! :D
I go to an Asian Salon, actually there are a couple. One is $22 for a pedi/mani and one is $25 for both. I think another is $18 for a pedi and $10 for a mani.
The massage is the best part! And you're right DD you do need to make time for yourself.

I finally had one about a year ago - HEAVEN! I HATE having my feet touched and I'm SUPER ticklish, but I decided to jump in with both feet (pun intended) and I never looked back! Even the few minutes of pure tickle torture is worth the pampering and pro looking tootsies!!

I love pedi's...I get one every two weeks. I go to an asian salon and I think they are $30. In N.H and M.A salons used to use this sort of blade to remove dead callous skin, but now salons aren't allowed to use it. I loved it (and even own one myself)
I am sad they discontinued allowing salons to use them. Anyone else experience this?

I had mine today too! I loved it! Ours around here are anywhere from $25-$35. My feet feel sooooooo good!
DD, always remember to take some time/money for yourself, because no matter how great our DH's are, they won't do it for you.
Glad we all have such happy feet around here!

That's my exact routine too! I get the pink and white fill BTW- I love it! Don't do french on my toes though, I usually go for a light pink shade.
I wish they still allowed the blade in NH!

Pedi's are HEAVENLY! :D
The Asian Salon I go to here charges $20 and they are fantastic. They DO still use the blade here. However, they are required to show each customer the new blade still in the packaging before they put it on the scraper gizmo (yeah, there's a technical term for ya! :p ).
They also have a separate box with a specified # on it for each customer. In it is a buffing pad, brush, and the heads for the sanding if you get nails put on. It's really nice to know they don't use the same stuff for everyone!

The blade?
It is a thin blade designed to shave off part of an over grown callous. It works wonders! Don't be intimidated...it really does make a huge difference!

ewwww......! So, if you have a corn or callus that has been built up over time, do they remove it all at once? Or will that be too painful, so they slowly 'shave' it off over time? Aren't you afraid they will hack your feet to pieces?

That's why many states no longer allow them (well that and the whole "clean" instrument thing). Many states consider what they're doing to be something short of "surgery". For places that do use it, it's just a light shaving, nothing crazy.
Me...I love the shaver (they done use it here in CA) and I have one myself. I just might need to bring that out too as the AHA's just aren't doing as good a job.

I guess it all boils down to trust with your pedicurist. Luckily I've had really good experiences - and it actually tickles a little, doesn't hurt at all. Of course, I have really, really bad callouses though, and the the exfoliating lotion and pumice stone aren't enough for me.
