My son loves these fizzy tablets that turn his bath different colors but they cost a fortune. I am thinking about making some myself and was wondering if anyone has any experience and could give me any advice. They seem to be mini bath bombs, made mostly of bicarbonate soda and citric acid with a water soluable die. Finding supplies in small sized and small molds is my biggest issue as well as deciding if the cost of buying supplies makes this worth while. The premade ones cost us about .25 each.

Just buy them! Making bath bombs might be cheaper, but the frustration will cost you more than 25 cents apiece. If you do decide you want to try making them, you can buy citric acid and colorants here (http://www.brambleberry.com/supplies.html#citric). Bicarbonate soda = baking soda. Get it at Costco or the grocery store. You can use those plastic ornament balls or a meatballer as molds. There's also a simple recipe in that link I just posted. Be very careful about the amount of witch hazel/colorant you use. If you get the mixture too wet, it'll fizz right away and blob out on you. If it's too dry, it won't stick together. Don't make them if it's humid or raining.

Back when we were little kids my mom would let us make ice cube trays full of heavily colored water (Schilling food dye from the grocery) and we could put one or two in our bath, not nearly as fun, but way cheap.

It might be worth it if you decide to make them as Christmas gifts as well. That way you could get more for your money.

Thanks for the responses. So far I have not taken any action on the idea. I am not particularly "crafty" and have not found time to clean my house let alone do a project. I just love the idea of a project.
