Oooh, oooh ooooh!!! Me first!!! :D
Now I still have to add a few things like lamps, curtains...personal touches. But you can at least get an idea!
This is what you see when you first walk in the door:
http://images.snapfish.com/343%3C98%3A723232%7Ffp46%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B 83%3DXROQDF%3E23238%3B33%3B83%3B5ot1lsi
Panning to the left...on top of the armoire you can see the plaque that Gino also got for Lina today. It says "Angelina" and tells about the name, at the bottom it says "We loved you even before you were born, Love Mom and Dad." You can also see the HUGE A$$ teddy bear he got me for Valentine's a few years back. When I sit on the ground it's as big as I am!:

Panning left again...you can see a full shot of the letters on the wall and also see most of the crib:

Nursery pics continued:
Panning left again...you can see a full shot of the crib by the mirrors(those are the closet doors), and also the dresser with the changing pad on top:
http://images.snapfish.com/343%3C98%3A723232%7Ffp46%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B 83%3DXROQDF%3E23238%3B33%3B83%3B7ot1lsi
This is a shot of the entrance where the first picture was taken...you can see the glider(still waiting on the ottoman to arrive), nightstand, and part of the bed.
http://images.snapfish.com/343%3C98%3A723232%7Ffp64%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B 83%3DXROQDF%3E23238%3B33%3B93%3C3ot1lsi
Here's a better shot of the bed..although it's hard to tell that the linens are pink/black/white. I found the perfect jersey sateen sheets in the right shade of pink(amazingly enough) and black, and then just got a king sized duvet to go over one of our king comforters. It's a queen bed, but I like to have more than enough blanket, kwim? Add a plain black dust ruffle and voila:

Kim, did you ever figure out something for the curtains? Did you find fabric?
MurphysLaw
06-25-2005, 11:28 PM
ACK! No...I need to do SOMETHING about the curtains. I'm wondering if I should just spend the dough on that fabric?!
Camdynlyn

I would go ahead and do that... OR, can you not just ORDER white curtains specified to your size and then have Aunt sew on the frillies?

Kim, did you bedding set not have a valance or curtains that goes with it?
I think just a pink valance would be perfect and easy to find, too! Maybe pink eyelet-very girly!

Yeah it did, but I wasn't crazy about it, I wanted to do something a little bigger & more solid - it seems a lot of light comes through that window, plus it's on the front of the house...not that I'm worried about neighbors getting close enough to peer in...just need something OVER those blinds ya know? The valance was cute though.

Oh, yeah, in that case, you probably need curtains. You don't want Lina up at the crack of dawn every day because the sun woke her up!

;)Exactly! But I fear she'll be up at the crack of dawn regardless of the light situation! LOL!! Every little bit helps though.:D

We have made a little bit more progress. Got the glider moved upstairs, hung the valances, added the rest of the furniture and accent pieces. Not sure now if I want to order the green gingham panels to go under the valances or not. We still need to finish the lamps and hang pictures.

Kim, How hard was it to paint the stripes?
MurphysLaw

Kim, How hard was it to paint the stripes?
Actually it wasn't so bad. The measuring is the only part that can be tricky. First I measured the number of inches all the way around, then I divided that by how many stripes I decided to put up (my room is 12'7" X 11'10", so almost 12 X 12...I figured the stripes would be around 12 inches wide so 48 total stripes). That gave me my increment for marking the stripes. I went around the baseboard and marked my increments, then I used a laser level to make a laser line to the ceiling and just lined the painters tape up with the line (instead of making ceiling marks & floor marks).
You have to make sure you put the tape on the correct side of the line though...it appears to give you stripes that aren't even in width, but you paint inside these tape lines, every other one...here's what it looks like with the tape:
http://images.snapfish.com/343%3C%3A76%3B23232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D% 3B83%3DXROQDF%3E2323843963598ot1lsi
See how the pink stripes look way bigger than the white? It's because the tape overlaps into the white part where I didn't paint(not to mention the tape is 2" wide).
You don't have to wait for the paint to dry completely before taking the tape down. With some tape, if you leave it up for too long, you'll take down original paint when you peel it off! It can even go down to the drywall...trust me..., ...different tape is supposed to be up for different amounts of time, but they usually say on the packaging. HTH!!

KimandGino: I love your nursery! I have a cousin named Angelina, so I've always thought the name was super cute;) Did you know there's also a singer with that name? She sings a song called 'Release Me' and a few others.
I hope this thread is still around when I have a baby! I love everyone's nurseries. You gals are so creative!

Check out ebay. I've seen dozens of different styles and you can probably find one painted to match the theme of the nursery or maybe even his crib bedding.

Where are you ladies getting your name letters? I know that PB carries them but I was looking for something a little different.
We got ours at Babies R Us :)
Where are you ladies getting your name letters? I know that PB carries them but I was looking for something a little different.
I purchased these for my son from a woman on eBay, but she also has her own website:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5dc27b3127cce9fa74e47e99f00000016109AYtGrJu3ac
http://www.j3creations.net/
I was delighted with them, but she's very busy so it took FOREVER.... like 7 or 8 weeks to get the letters.
The ones for my daughter were also purchased on eBay from this seller:
http://stores.ebay.com/Carrie-and-Carsons-Creations
I haven't gotten them yet, so I can't comment on the quality.

Julie - I love Paige's nursery! Pink & green are the colors we're thinking of using if we're having a girl. Where did you get your bedding??? Was it a lot of work to do the stripes?

Thank you :)
The bedding was from Pottery Barn Kids. It was called the "Newport" collection (available in crib or toddler/twin sizes)....unfortunately I believe it was discontinued since it's no longer on their website or in stores. You can always call and see or also check Ebay.
As for the stripes, my sister and my husband did them (super quick I might add). My sister owns her own business (www.eitak.com) and does painting, murals, invites, etc for a living....so Paige's nursery was NOTHING compared to the stuff she does for her clients. My husband and I wanted something very simple yet cute....we'll save the murals and stuff for later on when she's older and into certain things (like a tea party theme or whatever) ;)
Hope that helps :)

Thanks Tracy! We are so happy with it!
The pictures on the wall are all from www.art.com. I had a really hard time finding anything in stores around town so I hunted on the web. Their prices are great and shipping was super quick. If you visit their site, just click on the SUBJECTS tab at the top and for the boat pictures, I clicked on Transportation and then Boats & Ships. They have a world of stuff though. Good luck!

Celina - sorry not to mention that. DH sunk three drawer knobs into the moulding on that short wall area for an accent. Plus they are drilled into studs so we can hang anything from there, even little Trenton won't be able to rip them out. :-)

Sure, our crib is the Sheffield Collection from Bonavita. We purchased it at a locally owned baby store. No other store in my town carried it. The website www.bonavita-cribs.com has a store locator tool though if you are interested.
We loved the crib for the way it looked once converted to a full-size bed and for its sturdiness. It is as solid as a rock!

We had originally registered for a sage green changing pad cover (from Babies R Us), but when we got it, the green wasn't as nice as the green on the bedding and walls....it was a lot lighter and more "pukey" looking LOL. We ended up changing to pink ;)

Alex67 ~ I *love* your crib (and the rest of the furniture)!! Tell me, does the guard rail come down like on a typical crib so that you can easily lift the baby out? It doesn't look like it.....but seriously, I have never seen a crib that moves me and your is so beautiful!

babylove - Thanks so much for the kind words! We felt the exact same way when we first saw the crib. No, the side does not drop down. There are three height options for the mattress though and even on the lowest, I don't see a problem with picking the baby up. Afterall, when we are on the lowest setting, our son will be big and standing up in the crib anyway.

We didn't find out the gender until the birth. I didn't want to do anything typically baby,so that she can grow into it. I have since bought a new more girly comforter and sheet set for the twin bed that matches the wall colour also. The Animals on the walls are stickers that are very easily removed in the future.
All the nurseries in here are gorgeous. Everyone has put a lot of love into each one.

As our nursery theme, we have selected, er, What's On Sale. I'm very proud of the nursery because we've just been patching together bits and pieces from here and there, and it's all come together swimmingly (if you will pardon the pun). The crib bedding is koi, and we have dots all over the place which my toddler daughter has retroactively designated as "fish bubbles." We have surfboards and boat mobile thingies and round dot'itude galore. We love it!

Finally, pictures of our nursery. We don't know the sex of the baby, so we tried to stay as gender neutral as possible. I sewed all of the bedding and curtains myself - a local fabric chain went out of business, and I was able to get 50% off on this awesome chocolate brown fabric with a jungle print on it (it includes dragonflies, which I collect, so I had to have it!).
Yes, the curtains are an odd length - I sew the way I cook - measure? What's that? ;) :D

The only thing missing is artwork on the walls - we purchased a variety of tropical flowers last night, and I am going to photograph them today, have them blown up and framed, to complement the jungle print of the fabric. :)

Glad I found this thread! :D Our peanut isn't due until 1/27/06, but I SO want to get started on furnishing the nursery very soon!
Our nursery is DH's office right now (which will change as soon as he moves his JUNK out of here)....but, luckily, it was already painted in this kewl scheme when we bought our house! I don't think I'll change a thing as far as paint:

We got it at an art show. The artists name is Nedobeck. All the others in that room are originals, but the one over the crib is a print. I just love his work! It was the inspiration for the whole room. :) Thanks for the compliments on using red. All my friends thought I was crazy, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
just love that end table next to the glider.
Actually it came from Target for like $50. I was so stumped at what I was going to use (since the other furniture was white and red, but I didn't have a matching piece)and then my hubby spotted that table. What a find! and a great price :)

I checked on the paint and we used a laytex enamel semi-gloss on our furniture. If we were to do it again, I would use something without the gloss like an eggshell.

All of your nurseries are beautiful - such style in this group.
Just a quick note - IMO - for crib purchases for those of you who don't already have your cribs - we bought one of the cribs that does not have a side that goes down. We thought they were more "sturdy" than the others - to make a long story short - I hurt my back when DS was 12 months old and the crib was lowered all the way down. It was VERY hard to put him in for naps etc. Also - it is very hard with these cribs to find bumpers that fit (backside is solid - we have the Jardine Madison Crib), a mobile to fit, and a teething thing for the edges. If I could do it again - I would not get this crib - although I love the look of it. Ok - that is just my 2 cents...

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I found them on Ebay. I just searched "lambie" and it brought up all kinds of accessories that people made to match the PBK set.
Ok maybe I am missing something, but all the bedding prices on ebay are higher than on the PBK website. Most of the ads say "SOLD OUT" but it is not sold out, I added it all to my card on PBK just to check. Am I going crazy, why would anyone pay more on ebay?!
tgray99
07-21-2005, 04:23 PM
It had been discontinued by PBK but was so popular they brought it back. I'm betting that the Ebay sellers are hoping that people won't go confirm their "Sold Out" statement.
I bought all of my Chamois Lambie stuff on Ebay when it was all backordered and I did get mine for cheaper but that was almost a year ago. Yeah, I ordered my bedding way before we knew the gender but with Chamois Lambie it can be for either gender.

windycitygal and msmarie - I see that you both have upolstered chairs in your nurseries. Are these upolstered gliders? If so, which brand did you go with and are you happy with them?
I have an old hand me down glider from before DS#1 and one of the few things I want to get this time is a big comfy upolstered glider. I know Dutalier makes one, but haven't heard any reviews. The versions on BRU didn't get very good reviews from what I have seen. Would appreciate any input.

yoganut - I also have an upholstered glider/ottoman. Mine is by bestchairs.com and I LOVE it! They have different styles, but mine was called the Patoka (I believe) and is a somewhat smaller model(I'm only 5' tall and DH is 5'4"). I had the same prob with the upholstered Dutaliers...NO reviews from anyone. :( I tried the BRU gliders out, but they are limited as far as fabrics go...not too bad for comfort, but I liked mine better. Marie and Mickey,
How do you like your cribs? There is one like it brand new at a resale shop in town I am looking into. Are you happy with it?

Marie,
Love your nursery!!! Where did you get those canvas totes? Or did you buy plain ones and paint them?
Candy,
What a beautiful nursery... Where did you get the butterflys on the wall behind the crib? They are so percious.
Mickey,
Can't wait to see the airplane and hot air balloon. Did you do the ceiling of clouds? They look great, so real!

marteneym Baby boy is not here yet so I can't say what it's like using it everyday, but I do love my crib. I like that the top part of the railing can swing open, since the railing doesn't slide down, being short that helps!
sunchaser26 TY yes I did the clouds using a cheese cloth and sea sponges for that "real" effect!

Love Nora's nursery - so cute and cheerful!
Y'all are giving me some seriously good ideas for our nursery...whenever it turns out that we need one, which isn't anytime soon (but I can't stop myself lurking!)

Thanks Astara, katmg, tgray99, HSSweethearts, Aug2002Bride, KIMandGINO for the sweet compliments.
We were trying to do something he could grow with, and if all else fails daddy would LOVE to use it as an office. I have trouble keeping him out of there as it is  men and their toys...

The canvas totes were a find at wal-mart under $10. I stenciled on the words with a friend...
This is what they looked like originally...

yoganut yes it's an upholstered glider the maker is Best Chairs also, I think Kim posted alot about it already. Mine is in the story time series. I decided to go with the micro suede which they have in just about any color you could imagine. USA baby is a distributor but there are also independent distributors around.
LexyLou I'm glad you like the name! Figures ;)
Mickey&B DH found a stud and used a plain flat head screw with the fishing wire, you can see the wire at certain angles but not most He painted the screw the color of the ceiling afterward too...
u can see the string here: I don't really have a good picture of the screw...

marteneym I love the crib but can't really say we've used it alot. Lex is only 3 weeks old and is rooming in with us for the time being. he's taken naps in there the drop gate is great for me I'm a shorty, it's easy to put him in and out

marteneym TY! I LOVE the Madison crib. The only negative is you can't tie anything such as a bumper. Velcro works though.

Marie and Mickey - Love your nurseries. When DS grows out of his crib we will be doing an airplane theme in his bedroom.
We want to use the Lambs & Ivy bedding (same style as the crib bedding Mickey has), but they only have it for a toddler bed. I'm going to see if they will take a special order - could get expensive though.

kimandgino & shellbell-I have the same style letters as you guys (curlz) and was planning on also attaching the ribbon to it. I notice that you both actually have the ribbon tied on the top to something else, not the ribbon directly to the letter. What is it that you have between the letter and the ribbon and how did you attach it?
Thanks!

Here is what I did step by step (X-post from my old journal):
Here is one of the BOWS that I made:
http://images.snapfish.com/3445938%3B23232%7Ffp47%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B83 %3DXROQDF%3E232385354%3C844ot1lsi
Here is the backside of the bow. I used a leather type cording with knots tied in the ends. CLOSE UP so you can see the cording - Which has to be run thru *before* you tighten the bow all the way.:
http://images.snapfish.com/3445938%3B23232%7Ffp4%3Enu%3D3238%3E279%3E%3A92%3E WSNRCG%3D323294445%3B659nu0mrj
http://images.snapfish.com/3445938%3B23232%7Ffp64%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B83 %3DXROQDF%3E2323853553353ot1lsi
Here is a shot of the back...I used a staple gun to attach the cording to the letter. There are knots at the ends of the cording but you can't see them. The staples are tight, but just to make sure the weight of the letter doesn't cause the cording to slide thru:
http://images.snapfish.com/3445938%3B23232%7Ffp58%3Dot%3E2329%3D36%3A%3D%3B83 %3DXROQDF%3E232385354%3A%3A%3A5ot1lsi
And here I have the finished product, which I will gently rest on a nail in the wall. I think it will be fine like that. I think the size/weight letters you use will determine the size/strength nail you need. Ours were no more than an inch long and they were perfect - I can't see needing anything bigger/longer.:

Thanks so much Kim! That's really helpful. Our colors are pale pink and pale green. I wonder if I can find so type of cording in a light color like that. I painted the letters the green that's on the bottom half of the wall and was planning on using a pink gingham bow. I'll hit up Michael's tomorrow. Thanks again.

No problem Lexy, and they have ALL sorts of cording...just be sure you get something that will handle the weight of your letters. ;)

LexyLou - I kinda followed what Kim did, but used a thin white ribbon instead of the cording. I hot-glued them to the letters instead of using the staple gun too.

Kim-Can I ask another question? Sorry to be a PITA...I'm having a major pregnancy enduced breakdown today. :p About how long did you cut the ribbon for the bows?
BTW, you make beautiful bows. I'm going to have to recruit DH because I am horrible at bows...our poor daughter. :D

LexyLou - I thought I would reply for Kim, since she just gave birth last night. :) For the bow, I used about a foot of ribbon for each. Then I trimmed each end hanging down to make them even. I had to use varying length of the white ribbon so the letters looked more even after hanging them up.

philnikki: I thought I read on the WC somewhere that you were planning to get the Delta Verona crib. May I ask what made you change your mind? We're strongly considering it, so I want to make sure there aren't any negative reviews out there. ;)
BooeyJ2: I *love* your baby's crib ("Emily 3-in-1 crib" by Da Vinci)! In the pictures, it looks like it is a true white color. Is it stark white in person? I am asking because DH and I almost ordered a different crib the other day. Luckily, he saw it in person first. It was described on Sears' website as being "white", but wasn't white at all in person. It was almost off-white or a dull-white. Is your crib really white, an off-white color, or antiqued?
Thanks so much for your help, ladies!

Does anyone have the Simplicity Ellis crib?
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002ZA2MO.16._AA260_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Dh and I are seriously conseidering it? The only thing I am concerned about is it has a solid(unable to move up and down) front. Have any of you had problems with this feature on your crib. I am 5'4" and worry that it would be difficult to lay baby down. I love the look but function is more important.

We plan on buying our at the beginning of September. I'm also 5'-4", but I like the saftey of non-moving sides. From what I've read, we should be fine height wise!!

Just a thought on cribs with with stationary sides. I have read (somewhere on CC) that it may be hard on your back to lift the baby in and out of the crib once they are bigger.
Mommy E&L, please do post pics. I love that bedding and would love to see how it loos in an actual nursey other than the catalog.
I just found some old pics of her nursery I'll try to download them today, but I need to take new pics too!
marteneym , I think w/ the non-moving rail, the crib is more solid. At least that is what I have read. I am only 4'11" and we decided against it b/c we were worried about the difficulty of me getting dd in and out of the crib once we lowered the mattress all the way down. One of the sales people also mentioned that it could be a problem for me. See if you can try bending over the crib w/ the mattress lowered and see how it works for you, I think you might be ok. I am quite a few inches shorter than you. Even when dd's crib rail is pulled up, I can barely put her in the crib w/o "dropping" her in.

Hi marteneym-
Just wanted to let you know that the crib is made by Baby's Dream. Beautiful, isn't it? We love their cribs, but alas, they don't all come in the natural color. :(

The main reason was because we couldn't find the Verona in stock around here, and when I saw the Bridget, I decided I liked the style better. Its a 5 in 1, has a drop side rail and a drawer underneath which has been so nice for storage of her blankets, etc.

Well I thought I would post pics of our nursery. The pictures are fuzzy and we are not done putting stuff up on the wall. My friend is an artist who does illustrations for childrens books and she is going to actually do three paintings for the wall in the likeness of the little guy and our dog - so we are waiting to see a LITTLE BIT of what he looks like.
Here is the glider and nursing stool from the doorway:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/adore_one/Glider.jpg
The red on the glider seems to match a bit better in person. For some reason it came out a bit lighter than when I painted even though I matched the paint to the glider. hmmmm. Oh well.
Here is the hamper and the closet - no organizer yet - we still need that in there. My dad is suppose to build that for us when my parents are here for the 2 weeks - month after birth.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/adore_one/Hamper.jpg
Here is the dressar the stripes are hidden behind it. This was right after putting it up, please excuse the mess. The lamp actually has a bulb now and a cream colored base that matches the wall. The little red thing on the side in the changing pad is actually a nightlight that will go on the table I need to put next to the glider. There will also be 3 teddy bears hanging on the wall above the dressar. Also the basket was received during the shower. I will be paining that red to match after little guy gets here. I painted all the stripes and DH wants me to avoid painting now...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/adore_one/dressarmessy.jpg
Here is the crib. It is the same GenNext crib that was posted above. The outside of the bumper is actually the same plaid as the hamper. It has a green chenile bedskirt.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/adore_one/crib.jpg
Here is the inside with the mobile. I still had not tied the bumper at the time. All fixed now.

Lex - one other thing you can do with the letters - if you want organza ribbon or something for the stuff that hangs...something not as thick because of your colors - is actually hang the letters on the wall. Then put the bows above it then put the ribbon that looks like it is hanging ;) so the letters are actually attached. You would have to of course remove the letters after you got the measurement for the "hanging" ribbon, but it would look like it was hanging and could be a lighter weight ribbon. HTH

I got the bookcase at Target and the cabinet my mom gave me when she didnt have room for it anymore and then it kinda just fit well in Laurens room so I put it there. I cut the dresses out of the wallpaper border and stuck them on the front of it to jazz it up a little.

Painting Question: When your baby's nursery was being painted, did you leave the house? DH is about to paint the baby's room, but I'm not sure how important it is to steer clear of that side of the house. He can open the two windows in the room (even though it's kind of rainy outside). Is that enough? It's Sunday evening, so I really have nowhere to go if I leave the house. How long should we ventilate the room until it's okay for me to go in there and be around it? I read the paragraphs in What To Expect... on the subject and it recommends leaving the house or at least leaving the windows open. I'm just curious as to what you ladies did while you were pregnant, though. Thanks in advance!

Painting - I had a ton of painting to do and did it all myself. I read as much as I could on the subject and it seems most of the sources say you can paint WATER BASED as long as you are well ventilated. Definitely no OIL BASE paint. There were a couple of times I think I pushed the definition of well ventilated too far, but if you are not the one doing the painting and don't have your face really close to the wet paint, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
Can't wait to post pictures of our nursery here. Probably another week or two.....

Nursery question! Does anybody know if anybody sells a roll of removable wallpaper border that you can customize? I want to customize it myself (I want to stamp little hot air balloons all over it), I don't want the company I buy it from to customize it. So basically I want a blank roll of wallpaper border. Does that exist? If not, does anybody know if it is possible for me to somehow do this by myself? We live in a rental, and we have permission to paint Baby's room, but only in a plain solid color, not with murals or designs or anything. So the border needs to be removable. I don't know if there is a special kind of paper that's used for these things, or a special kind of adhesive?
Thanks if anyone can help me!

albuquerque, I have no idea how this would look, but what if you used white contact paper? It is definitely removable, and if you got the right kind of markers/paint I bet you could make it work...

Beautiful Astara! Would you mind telling me what paint you used for the walls? I love that color.

Astara,
Love your nursery we too have a small room and I was wondering what type of furniture we should get, didn't want it to be too crowded.

Ann, thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into that--I have a lot of stamps with balloons and borders, so maybe I could make something pretty. If not, I guess I wouldn't have wasted too much money, anyway. Now just to find white contact paper somewhere in Greece (I haven't been here long enough to know where to look for various things). Where would you find it in the US, in a kitchen section, like for lining drawers and shelves?
Astara, beautiful nursery, I hope the green paint we picked out ends up looking something like yours when we finally put it on the walls. Our nursery is also small, maybe even a tiny bit smaller than yours--I'm also hoping to fit in the crib, a dresser/changing table, and a glider and have it look OK. Yours looks great, so that's encouraging. I'm frightened to see that you're due only about 2-3 weeks before me (I'm due on 5 November), and we have not even begun on the nursery, it's still filled with boxes of books! Eeeek!
