My MIL needs some suggestions on what kind of annuals would be good for an area that gets part shade/part sun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am assuming you are asking for next summer because it is hard to find annuals now although there are some that are sold now like Pansies (not sure about pansie sun requirement though).

Impatiens can be in sun or shade, are easy to grow and very pretty.

Pansies are, indeed, part sun/part shade. You can plant them in groups or you can plant them individually around rocky areas. You want to mulch to give them the best chance of surviving.

What zone are you in? Knowing your zone will help you determine which plants will grow well in your area, to begin with. If you don't know your zone, here is a map showing the USDA hardiness zones. (http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html)
