I have been having issues with my dd. The last two nights have been 2:00am or later that she's gone to sleep. We're moving on Sat. Needless to say, we're not 100% packed.

Well I never posted at WC but I am a fall 2002 mommy. My youngest DS was born Oct. 2, 2002. I can't believe he is almost 3. He is not potty trained yet. :( He is not the greatest eater either. :(

He just had eye muscle surgery Thursday for strabismus and is doing really well. Hopefully we can get rid of the glasses soon because they are really scratched up!

I'll love to join too. My first born son will be 3 on September 26.

Kay How did the surgery go? I'm interested because my son has been diagnosed with pseudostrabismus. The doctors(I've taken him to two specialist so far)seen to think that he has extra skin around his eye that makes it look like strabismus. No matter what they tell me, I can tell that one of his eyes turn inward it's not quiet crossed, but it looks like a "lazy" eye. The doctors both seem to think he will outgrow it. I just want to correct the problem, whatever it is.

Paula R. - I have been told that you can tell the difference between pseudostrabismus and strabismus by shining a light in their eyes.

http://home.earthlink.net/~thomsoc/images/pseudo.jpg
This is pseudostrabismus. The light reflection is symmetrical in the pupil

http://home.earthlink.net/~thomsoc/images/Strabismus.jpg
This is true strabismus. The light reflection is asymmetrical.

The surgery went well. He did have to go under general anaesthesia but the surgery only took 35minutes. He had no bandages but the inner corners of his eyes are red. We do have to do eye drops 4x a day for a week ( not an easy thing to do with a 2 1/2 yr old). We had tried glasses for a few months but there was no improvement so we had the surgery done. I was told that the risk of leaving true strabismus untreated is that over time the child can lose sight in the weaker eye. We go for our 1week post-op visit on Wednesday. I was told that it takes a month for the muscles of the eyes to strenghten after surgery and not to expect to see a difference right away, but I can already tell that his eye isn't turning inwards anymore. He still has to wear the glasses for a little while until the muscles are fully healed.

Anyone thinking birthday parties??

I'm totally thinking birthday parties!! I have no idea what theme to go with though. For this first, we did the usual "first birthday" theme. The 2nd birthday was Elmo. Our problem is that Briley isn't interested in TV at all, so Dora, Spongebob, etc are all out. She has no idea who they are. She does know Cinderella from books, so I thought maybe that. But in the end, I'm just not sure...Her birthday is Oct 28th and we'll probably have her party that weekend. I've always thought a dress up party would be nice, but then, I want her birthday separated from Halloween...

We're not doing any special theme except for possibly trains. We're going with a bbq in our backyard and possibly renting a bouncy climber for our new backyard!!

Kay thanks, that pseudostrabismus picture is exactly what my son eyes look like. That helps settle my mind. I guess the picture really help explains it because even after I've seen two specialist and the pediatrician, I thought they didn't know what they were talking about. I've been looking for another specialist to take him to. I also heard that if strabismus is left untreated, it can cause loss of sight in the eye. That is why I have been so diligent on making sure he does not have it.

Birthday Party I'm trying to decide what theme if any to do. I asked him this morning what he wanted for his birthday and he said Thomas(as in Thomas the train). So I may do a Thomas theme. I don't want to do anything too big since his 3rd birthday is September 26 and my second son's 1st birthday is October 25. I have to do a big party for his 1st birthday.

Thomas is my son's favourite thing. He has about a gazillon of the metal trains and he's getting a homemade Thomas train table for Christmas. My friend made Thomas, Percy and James pictures for his birthday last year and they are awesome. His bedroom is a Thomas shrine. We went to see Thomas a couple of weeks ago and he is still talking about it!

Now I'm thinking M&M's. It's so bad, but they're her favorite candy. And she is obsessed with that commercial where the M&M's look like a kaliedoscope. So that may be our theme if I can find some decorations to go with it. Ideas anyone???

Know anyone going to Las Vegas? They have an M&M's store. Or else you could call the company that makes them and explain your delimna. They might be willing to send you stuff.
