Well with my 2 year anniversary fast approaching in October I have been reminiscing about that wonderful day. I was lucky enough to have my reception at the Antrim 1844 in Taneytown, MD and I was wondering if any of you other ladies had or are having your ceremonies/receptions there? If you did, how did you like it? I am thinking about maybe going back there and doing a weekend retreat for our anniversary. Has anyone done this?

Well hope some of you out there have some feedback and I'd love to hear your stories of the Antrim.

Reebs-Lucky girl! A wedding at Antrim 1844! I used to always attend their Christmas open houses. Never had the opportunity to stay there however. You should definitely do a long anniversary weekend! I loved the room in the old ice house!

Hi Charlotte, I know..is that place not fabulous? We actually had already put a deposit down at the "Links at Gettysburg". That place had a fantastic view, but when we went for the food tasting we nearly died. The food was HORRIBLE!! And then on top of that my DH did a credit check and they had a poor credit rating and word got out later they were filing for bankruptcy. Luckily my parents were able to get the deposit back and we headed right to the Antrim. We so lucked out in that they had our weekend open so we immediately booked it without hestitation.

I miss that place so much. The staff was wonderful. Food was spectacular and the it was all around a great experience. I wish I could relive it everyday.

So do you live near the Antrim? I'm in Western Howard County.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Hi Reebs,

I am new to the boards, but saw this post and decided to reply. My fiance and I are planning on getting married at the Antrim next year. I am so excited, it is such a beautiful place!

If you could give me any insights as to how your wedding went, I would really appreciate it. Where in western Howard do you live? I grew up in the area, but now live near DC. I hope to hear from you - and congrats on the 2 year anniversary!

Hey keygirl, I am so excited to hear you are getting married there. It will be an absolutely wonderful day. The staff there is phenomenal. And the chef...people two years later still talk about how good the meal is!!

I'm not sure what time of year you are doing it, but we did October and that allowed us to have the cocktail hour in the mansion and also outside. It was great. The gardens were beautiful. Then of course we had the reception in the Pavillion. One suggestion there (which may just be what my DH and I like), I'm not sure if you have visited yet, but the Pavillion has that first room you walk into and then the bigger room. Well we had all the tables in the bigger room and had are band and the dancing in the smaller room. It worked out really well because you don't have the loud music blaring while people are trying to eat and talk. And with the french doors opened you could still see what's going on.

One last suggestion, for your cake, we went with a woman the Antrim selected, her company is called Cakes By Karen and she is out of Littlestown, PA. When I tell you the BEST cake I have EVER had, I mean it. It was wonderful. Everyone was commenting on how great it was.

Ok, one more, promise. Band, we went with After Hours out of Gaithersburg. They were reasonable and will travel up to the Antrim for a couple extra $100. They were excellent. Sounded exactly who they were singing/playing and they stayed later than we contracted for because everyone was having such a good time!

Ok, I'm done, I promise.

I am originally from NJ, but moved to MD for DH. We live in Woodbine. Its near Ellicott City. We actually used to live in Waverly Woods, not sure if you are familar with the area. So you live in DC now?

Best of luck with your plans!!
