I am soooooo excited!!!
DH and I are getting a new kitty. We have two, but there's one little lone kitty left at my Grandma's!! We will get it after our vacation this weekend.
Any advice on how to keep the two we have from ganging up on the other?? We will keep it in a seperate rrom until they are thoroughly acclamated to each other, but is there anything else???
Bascially-I am just so excited!! Now the waiting begins!!! :D

Congrats on your new kitty. :) I have 3. The third one we brought in as an adult (she was my Mom's cat). She gets in minor disagreements with the other two cats from time to time but so far its always been one on one, no ganging up. Just keep an eye on them and if you are worried then just separate them when you are not home with them. Give it some time. I know when I brought home kitten #2 my first cat was soooo mad! He hid all weekend long. Finally at the end of the weekend I pulled him out from under the bed and he was just fine from then on. Those 2 cats get along really well now.

I'm glad you asked that question...we are about to grow by 4 feet in our house too. We have 2 6 year old cats, from the same litter, and we are getting one from my BIL/SIL whose cat had kittens and it was a gift to my DD. I'm curious as to how to introduce the 3 without all the fur flying!

I was wondering the same thing.....
I have a 7 year old cat presently and we are not home very often. Since we moved to our new home our fur baby has been very vocal, misbehaving just to get attention and wanting lots of attention when we are home or he cries loudly. So we thought that it might be nice if our existing cat had company so we were thinking about getting a kitten.
Although we are worried that our present fur baby will misbehave and cause this to be very traumatic. Do we need to worry about our cat being lonely? Will a new cat make things better or worse? Any thoughts...

Thanks for all the advice!!
We picked her up Thrusday night and didn't get a chance to introduce her to our other cats. Now the kitten is staying at my Mom's for the 4th of July weekend. All will be well until then!
She is such a little cutie!!!!
Yesterday was her first trip to the vet and she didn't like to get blood drawn for the tests-but she got a clean bill of health and weighs 1.5 pounds!!
I will post pictures when I get them. Until DH and I are back from our vacation, there's not much to post about the cats. Hopefully they will get along very well!! ;)

I got our thrid cat about a year ago. The other two were littermates and a year old at the time. I put them upstairs and let the new kitten walk around, smell everything and get used to our house. We then put the new kitten away, and let the other two cats come down and smell the scent of the new kitten. The both thoroughly sniffed around trying to figure out what this new scent was. They also smelled it on me and dh's hands, so then they assumed everything was ok. then we brought the new kitten down, and when they found out this new scent was a CAT  they were not happy. they started hissing and when that had no effect, ran off into a different room. From then until about a week later, I had to pet the older 2 cats first in the morning before I left, otherwise if they smelled the new kittens scent on my hands or clothes, they hissed, ran off and wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. At the end of the first week, they got along ok. Didn't trust each other, but could stand to be in the same room. After about 3 weeks, they could sit on the same piece of furniture. Now the new kitten and one of the older cats are really good friends. They wrestle and play all the time, and even groom each other once in a while. The other older cat still gets along great with the new kitten, but will not groom or snuggle with him. This is probably because they are both males, and the other older cat is a female.

I brought in a second younger cat about a year ago. I found her in abandoned in the park; she was probably a year old or maybe a little younger at the time. Our original cat who was about 10 years old at the time was not happy. We kept them separate for almost a week. The younger cat would wake me up in the middle of the night crying so I would have to go sleep in the guest bedroom with her to keep her quiet. The older cat still does not like the younger cat. She still hisses, growls and swats at it. Not all the time, but at least once or twice a day. Most of the time it is unprovoked where the old one will go up sniff the young one and just slap the other cat and hiss at it. Not sure what to do about it. I've suggested kitty prozac to my husband but he thinks I'm crazy. For the most part they just avoid each other, but I had visions of them being friends and snuggling up. Guess that will never happen.

My older cat is 8 years old and we just brought home a new kitten 4 weeks ago. The kitten has only been running free in the apartment for the last week though.
It's funny though because the new kitten will chase the older kitten around the apartment. It is so funny to see this little kitten chasing this big cat. My cat hisses at her and usually runs away, but there have been some instances of tolerance lately. I think with more time, they will be okay.

I thought that I should update how everything went with our new kitty!
Our cats love her! When I brought the second one home, they didn't get along this well. The three are always together causing trouble. They playfight, too. I just have to monitor them to make sure they don't play too hard with her. There was only one hiss the entire time that we've had her, and that was when I brought her inside in her kennel.
She still stays in the bathroom at night and when we're gone. Every once in awhile we'll put her in there just to make sure she won't forget to use the litter box. Now we just need to pick a name. She's really frisky and thinks she's in charge. Any suggestions??
PookiePrincess-my little kitten chases the big cats around, too. It's funny because she's barely 2 pounds and my biggest one is five times that wieght!
glensgirl-Is your newer cat "altered"? That could be something as to why they fight.
