Stacy I got your info updated - let me know if you want me to put a picture of Robert in the first few posts. :)

I'm here...popping in and out today. We're working on some projects around the house to get it ready to sell in the spring, and my job is to sand, plaster, texture and paint the walls in our laundry room. I'm trying to get it all done this week, as we are having people over for Will's birthday on Saturday. Of course, it all depends on how cooperative Abigail is! She's so happy right now, so I might actually get a little bit done. She's starting to be much more social - loves to talk and smile! She even played with her boppy toys for a while last night. She's not sleeping great during the day - doesn't like to sleep unless she's being help - but is sleeping fantastically during the night. I've been putting her in her crib the last few nights, to start out, just because our room is cooler then hers. She's slept in there until 5 and 3:30 the last two nights!! Yea!!! :) Of course, my bbs are usually so painful by the time she does wake up!! Payoffs, I guess.

Have to take advantage of time while she's happy. Back later with more...

Leslie - THANK YOU for starting the new thread!!! Hard to believe we have our Mama Thread already - weren't we all just getting our BFPs?!!

Okay, now I need some help from the wrap ladies! Here is us with the wrap a little while ago. Luke seemed very happy in it (as long as I was walking around, of course).

Can someone give me some tips on how to make it tighter? a) it looks loose AND b) it seemed like the more I walked around the more he slid down on my body

TIA!

I think we are updated to here! Thanks again to Leslie for getting things started in here!! Just a couple of things:

- See mistakes? Feel free to holler!! I think we all understand that our attention to detail may not be what it used to be, so we're happy to correct any mistakes!

- Want a picture of your little one posted in the first few posts? Post it with your info, and Identify that you want it posted. We don't want to post pictures if you are not comfortable, so please be specific if you want a picture posted.

- As this thread grows, it becomes very helpful to have corrections and updates posted in RED.

Gotta run - fussy baby! :)

Ladies, I'm about to go crazy! I feel like a prisoner in my house. I've been out to run to Target, and to take DD to school and back, but I usually run around so much more than I have been. I am DYING to go out to eat! Have any of you taken your little one to a restaurant yet? Did they do ok?

I guess I am just feeling a bit isolated. I go back to work in 3 weeks and I am actually starting to look forward to it. Staying at home all the time is really hard for me. Is anyone else feeling this way? I feel guilty.

Alex - We've taken Rachel out a couple of times to eat. Saturday night we went to a steakhouse with the inlaws. She was asleep for the 35min wait and then it was time to wake up. The paci did the trick for a few min, then I had to take her out of the carseat. I had pumped about 3 oz, so I fed her and tried to eat myself. It worked out ok. I had to get Phillip to cut up my steak for me though. All the servers just loved to stop and look at her too.

It is hard to not have actually adult contact through out the day. I went to our company lunch last week and it was so good to just socialize.

I try to spend time out in the real world, and I am kind of hoping that I get a job so I don't go nuts spending time with Ben as my only companion for most of the time.

Getting out of the house: I manage to get to the gym at least every second to third day. The kids are in swimming lessons so every Monday I drive them to that, and my son is in cross country running, so I'm pretty busy!

My old employer called and offered me a job a couple of weeks ago (better pay AND moving me into a payroll/HR split, which is a dream come true for me), but I would have had to start back when Avery is only six weeks old. I turned it down - as much as I'd love the extra income, there's no way I'm willing to give up these precious moments with Avery during her first year. I missed it with my first two kids, and I totally regret it. So I'm going to enjoy this first year as much as I can, even if I do have days where I feel bored! :)

I'm a homebody so I don't mind not getting out of the house, although I do miss adult conversation. The internet only goes so far in that. We have been going to the IL's the past two Sundays and that has been nice. There are plenty of hands to pass Luke off to and I get to chat and relax. We have not even thought about going out to eat. Luke is just too unpredictable right now. Last week we took him to visit my former co-workers and we were going to go to the mall, but we forgot the stroller, so that went out the window.

Yeah, Leslie, like Kim said, you have to put it on tight, because it IS going to sag once Luke is in there.
Try to cover a bit more Luke with the wrap, you should only see his face...
Make a flat knot, they are the strongest and they are the knot that will hold tension longer...
This is what it should look like:

Alex -- Don't feel guilty! I just took Jonah on our first trip to the mall TODAY and I was GOING INSANE. I had been to the doctor and to the store, but not out anywhere else. I feel guilty about feeling like I am chained in my house and hating it, but it is really getting to me. We haven't been out to a restaurant, so I can't weigh in there, but wanted you to know you're not alone!

Leslie -- Seems like you are feeling better, no? If so, I am glad for you!! I am still applying nystatin cream to my nipples every 4 hours and giving Jonah nystatin oral suspension after every feeding, and we are not feeling any better at all. The cream is a PITA because you have to wash it off before nursing, and the suspension is a PITA because he likes to spit it out and it makes him throw up. I'm wondering whether the fact that I'm feeling no relief means this is not yeast at all...

ETA sorry to turn a post to you into a bitching session about me.

Oops, gotta run, I think we are nearing the 6 week growth spurt, as my hungry monster has been screaming to eat every 1.5 to 2 hours today, except for our trip to the mall!

I attend a breastfeeding support group once a week, so I'm out of the house and meet with other mommies, which is great. I also love the weekly weight checks on him, since I'm still using the nipple shield.

Leslie or others who have babies who spit up : I read one the breastfeeding thread that Luke spits up a lot. Do you continue to feed him after he spits up, or is that a sign that he's done? Josiah started spitting up yesterday (and tons of sour and chunky milk), but he still seems hungry afterwards and takes milk. I don't want to overfeed him (he's been gaining 8-10 ounces a week--up to 8.5 lbs now), so I know he's getting enough. I'm just not sure...

LILRTL OMG that last picture of him, um, feeding from the bottle is hilarious!

Here is a picture of my little guy, who's due date is tomorrow!

Laura Let me know if you want me to post one of those pictures of Josiah (who is adorable!!)

Quick update before I head to bed -
I'm starting to wonder if Abigail is hitting yet another growth spurt - she is finally asleep tonight, but she was awake most of today. She wanted to eat and eat and eat...needless to say, I didn't get much done on our basement project! I've been putting together a plan to start trying to get us on something of a schedule, in anticipation of going back to work. Maybe that will help her sleep more. However, I probably shouldn't complain much...while she isn't sleeping much during the day, she is sleeping very well at night! Last night, she finally fell asleep around 9:30, woke to eat around 3:30, and back asleep until 6:30. The night before, she slept even better! Her big milestone today, however, was taking her first bottle! First, I am so thrilled that she is 8 weeks old and just now starting on a bottle. The problems we had with breastfeeding with Tallia don't seem to haunt us as much this time - Abby seems to be doing so much better across the board. I wouldn't even push the bottle now, but I do need to get her ready to start at daycare soon. Things didn't go very well at first - I warmed up some milk and had Will try. We finally got her situated after giving her a bath and swaddling her. Then, Will said she sucked down her bottle and fell sound asleep (and has been snoozing ever since, 3 hours ago!!). I definately think this will be part of our evening routine - I love that Will gets to put her to sleep!

I will be going back to work in two weeks, and I'm so not looking forward to it. I think I'll adjust ok to having to take Abby to daycare, as we've done this before, but right now, my job just seems to be sucking the life out of me...and I'm not even working at the moment. But, regardless, it will only be this year and then we're moving, so I only have a few months to deal with it. Keeping that in mind, my biggest fear about going back to work is that Abby and I won't be able to keep BFing. I've been on the mini-pill for about a week now, and feel like my supply has dropped. I started on Fenagreek today, so am hoping that will help with any drop. Hopefully, this will just be one more way that Abigail is different then her big sister!

Now, QOTD:
Getting out of the house We've been getting out pretty regularly from very early on. MIL and I took Abby to Starbucks when she was only 2 or 3 days old!! I was definately having serious cabin fever and the ILs were driving me nuts, so it was get out or melt down. Since then, we usually take Tallia to school or pick her up, and run any variety of errands during the day. I would definately be going crazy if I was here all day, every day with just the baby. Even just getting out for a walk becomes helpful if we don't get out for anything else. We have taken both girls out for dinner several times. Abby usually does pretty well, but I've had to NIP a few times, too. I make sure I have a big blanket to drap over my shoulder, or she and I hang out in the car until feeding is over. So far, its gone really well.

Spitting up Laura - Abby is a huge spitter (although, knock on wood, she has been easing up over the last few days!). She usually doesn't spit until she is all done eating, though she has spit up a few times when I am switching sides with her. I am amazed at how chunky she is despite what seems like volumes that seems to come up with each feeding. I don't know for sure, but what I understand about BF babies is that its tough to overfeed them unless you are using bottles. So, if he's still acting hungry, I'd let him keep eating, as long as he's gaining weight well. OF course, I'd also get some one else's opinion(s), since I could be totally wrong! ;) BTW, welcome to the thread!!! Its always nice to have new mamas join up!! Your little guy decided to come pretty early, didn't he?! He is certainally beautiful.

Lora I love the pictures of Zack!! He has such an expressive face! That picture of him on the first page is so adorable!!

Carla Good for you for turning down that job. It sounds tempting, but you are so right - your time with Avery is so important! I hope you continue to enjoy every minute with her!!

Hmmm...I'm sure I've forgotten someone, but its time for me to head to bed. I'll pop back in tomorrow.

The pics are all so cute.

Spitting up Ben spits up just little amounts but something irritates his skin when he does. He gets a rash from it, but I am getting better amount remembering that I need to keep a warm wet washcloth there to wipe him down with.

One question....

Emma will only sleep in her swing... Granted, it's for 6-7 hours at night (so I'm not complaining), but I will be going back to work in 5 weeks and need to get her to sleep in something other than the swing so that the sitter doesn't have a problem getting her to sleep during the day. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to sleep in her bassinet or crib??

Thanks in advance... :D

We have taken the boys to restaurants a couple of times, first to Red Robin, then to the ClaimJumpers. Both restaurants are pretty noisy, so we figured if they fussed it wouldn't bother too many people. Their eating schedule tends to be when its our time to eat too, so we order appetizers and feed them when we have those and by the time our meal arrived they were done and asleep. It went well and it was nice to get out of the house.

It IS very isolating, don't feel guilty. Caring for a newborn is hard work, and its not like its mentally stimulating like doing a "real" job, or even just having an adult converstation.

Spitting up-this is my great dilemma, too! They told me in the hospital to let him take himself off the breast and not take him off myself. So, when he spits up and he still acts hungry, I let him keep nursing. He just did it to me this morning-spit up all over my nipple. blech. He is a huge spitter! Every time I think we have a day where he doesn't spit up a lot, the next day he will spit up tons. Like Sonya, I have heard/read that you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby, so that's my rule that I go with.

Whew I finally have a break to say hello & update!

First of all TY to Leslie & Sonya for starting a new thread!! Let me know if you two ever need help!

The babies all look PRECIOUS!! Loving all the pics!! Angelina has been smiling at me a lot lately so I'm hoping to get a good smiley pic for the front page!:D

Spitting up - I think she has a little reflux problem. I can usually get her to burp pretty well for me so I'm figuring that's the only thing it could be. If I keep her upright after she eats she's fine (like on my shoulder or propped a little in her boppy), I have to keep her propped/upright for about 20 minutes. Otherwise she'll spitup every. time.

Outings - We've actually taken Lina quite a few times. A couple of times to restaurants, and a few times to Walmart. It was pretty easy in Walmart in the Bjorn, but now since I've switched to the wrap, I don't know. I'd have to be tied up before I left the house, and although she loves being in it, she hates the process of being PUT in it, kwim? So haven't tried that yet....she dislikes her carrier (I think I need to adjust her straps) but as long as it's in the car or attached to her stroller, she's usually asleep. If we are in a restaurant she's fine as long as she doesn't know she's in there (asleep). Once she wakes and realizes she's in the carrier (gasp!) she gets fussy & wants to be held. At times I think she's a little spoiled, but she's mine so that's ok. :p

Swing - I'm with Keri on the swing issue. She sleeps best in the swing for the most part. Once in a while I can get her in her bassinett/crib, but she has to be swaddled TIGHT, and FULLY asleep. These times are for naps. At night she sleeps in her swing, and if she wakes too fussy, I'll put her on her boppy on top of our comforter between Gino and me.

Sleeping - She did really well last night. slept from 1:30-4:30, then 5-8, then 8:30-11:30...all with 30 minute feedings in between. From 10am yesterday on through about 11pm last night, it was all naps ranging from 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours.....what a mess!! She's had a couple 4 hour patches, but they are few and far between. I've found the trick to getting her back to sleep so quickly is grap her when she first starts stirring and pop that boobie in her mouth BEFORE she has a chance to wake and get upset. Otherwise she gets waken up TOO much and ends up overly tired and fighting her sleep. I've been trying to stick with the 5 S's, but the shushing doesn't go over well if she ends up overly tired. I'm going to finish that book soon and start on the Baby Whisperer next. I'm up for suggestions if anyone has a fool-proof plan!! :p

Gotta run now, I have lots of errands to take care of today! Hope everyone is doing well!

I love all the pics.

I take Ben off of me all the time since he will suck for hours at a time otherwise. Sometimes I burp him and if he still seems hungry I put him back on, but if he gets an air bubble everything comes back up.

We should be updated to here.

Tina - do you want me to just cut and copy info from the other thread for you? Never mind - you beat me to it! What year were you married? You have it listed as 2005. ;)

Laura - do you want one of the pictures of Josiah posted? Totally fine either way, just didn't want you to think he'd been forgotten! :)

Sarah - have you dropped "Stephen" in Noah's name? Wasn't sure if that was a type-o. Let me know if you want me to add it.

I think that's it! Updating one handed, so feel free to point out mistakes!

Sonya, thanks for the compliment! Yes, you can add one of the open eyes pictures. How about the one with the open mouth, too? I don't really care which one. Thanks for including me!

Thanks for answering my spit up questions. I think my babe is fighting a little virus, since he had a mild temp yesterday (99.9). I called the doctor, who said it's not a fever until 100.4. Still, he was really fussy and wanted to eat and be held all day, even though he continually spit up. Luckily, he slept from 11pm-3am and 4am-9am, so I'm pretty rested. His temp is down, now.

kerbahr, I'm so jealous you have a smile from Emma. I think it's going to be a while before Josiah smiles, since he was 5 1/2 weeks early.

Kim, I don't have suggestions, as it sounds like you're doing well for your baby. I've been doing the 5 S's, too, but my DS gets too hot when he's swaddled! He's a ball of heat, since he heats up in my pouch sling, too. I have the No-Cry Sleep solution, Happiest BAby on the Block, and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. I'm reading them all to try to gently get DS to sleep longer. It's still a struggle.

Daniel's Kitty, how is breastfeeding going now? Are you healed? I go through wild emotions where I hate breastfeeding and then love it. I'm still waiting to have something to add to that "what we love about BF" thread...]

Outings
Let's just say it's a hit or miss! He is just so unpredictable. He hates his carrier as well and so I tried adjusting the straps, and taking out the head supports (he was sweating up a storm, which I think might have made him uncomfortable), and I have tried to take him on short walks to get him used to it! The trick is to feed him into a drunken stooper so he falls asleep! but this guy always wants to eat!!

Definitely a lot of smiles here. Seems like, once she started, there have been more everyday. I read in the Dr. Sears Baby Book to stick your tongue out at them and they will learn to mimic you--she always smiles back when I do this, and once in awhile she looks like she's trying to stick her tongue at me too (not sure if she's really trying or its just a reflex...). Its so fun to see how much they learn and change every day. Of course, we're in the fussy phase over here so, as many of you know, makes for a challenging day!

Outings -We've done a few so far. So far no sit-down restaurants but we've done the grocery, Target (a few times), church, craft fair. She's pretty good but always seems to lose it in the baby section at Target, right before I go to check out (this has happened twice!). She won't calm down until I pick her up and then promptly falls asleep in my arms.

I would love to get a smile pic of Ben, but he gets all pissy when the camera comes out.

SD601 I am actually liking it but I think Ben may be lactose intollorant. I have been trying to ignore it, but he is so gassy and a lot of my family has problems with it. I am going to try a little lactose free formula and see if he feels better then.

Kim I really enjoyed Baby whisperer, and I've apply some of the thing she said, and also some of the thing Weissbluth said. I can now PROUDLY say that WIlliam ONLY sleeps in his crib! :D I dropped him in there about an hour ago, he was awake, and I didn't have to go back. It had been like taht since 2 days, so knock on wood, it will keep going!!! I think you are going to make your own personal way of mothering, and that will be what works best FOR YOU! Again, great tips in BW.

Outings We go often out with William, but I'm trying to be more careful now to fit with his sleep and nap times...

Val How do you get your husband to help get him home in time for bed? Daniel ignores me about Ben's bedtime until he is so overtired that I am up al night with him. I think having Daniel spend the night trying to get him to sleep would help.
Congrats on him sleeping in his crib.

he laughs in his sleep

leslie - noah does this too and it is the cutest thing EVER!!! i call it his "pleased with his full belly" chuckle :p oh...and there is "stephen" in his name still, i just left it off to keep it simple this time, but it doesn't matter to me if it's on there or not! you have a great memory for even noticing, LOL

noah sleeps in such short periods i can't get anything done. he doesn't even fall asleep in the swing, sometimes the bouncer. he always wakes up 1-2 hours after i put him down - if that. and we do swaddle him up tight, so i don't know what the deal is lately. he will sleep a longer stretch if we are holding him, augh. i am trying to keep him up more during the day but that's my last idea! i am sooooooo tired and hungry and i look like POO. he's sleeping in my arms now so i'm going to try and put him down so i can finally eat...

other than all that, he's such an angelboy!!

Val You are my new hero!!! I've spent the last 3 hours trying to get Abby to sleep. She fusses and wiggles and gets all worked up. She's clean, fed, swaddled, exhausted, and still won't sleep for more then a minute or two unless I'm holding her. Actually, now she's to the point where even holding her, I can't get her to sleep. Will just called and I bit his head off. Of course, he wants to know what the books say to try...hell if I know - why doesn't he read them and tell me! I'm getting off the computer, pulling out the Weisbluth book, and figuring this out...Abigial needs to come spend some time with Will!!! ;)

Ben sometimes won't sleep if he is swaddled, it depends on his mood. In the afternoon he is happiest to nap in his swing.

LeslieR
09-20-2005, 02:05 PM
Sarah, Noah laughs in his sleep, too? Doncha just love it? I can't help but wonder what he is dreaming about that is so funny! :D

Luke takes all of his naps during the day in his swing and only in his swing. They're usually catnaps-sometimes I get one power nap a day. If I put him in the crib or the co-sleeper or the playard bassinet during the day, he wakes up within 5 minutes. I've been very lucky with nights, though. He sleeps in the co-sleeper with no problems. I have to say that Val is my hero, too, because Luke cannot put himself to sleep and he certainly WILL NOT sleep in his crib. lol He's been too little to really work on any sleeping habits yet, I think. And now with everything going on with my infections and now Sal being in the hospital, I really don't have the time or the energy to start trying now!
Val, do you have any interest in visiting Connecticut in the near future? :p ;)

Thanks, Ladies, for the new thread!!!

I'm typing with the girl asleep in the boppy, on my lap. :)

Outings I've taken the girl out a bit. We usually go to a New Mommies group (we're skipping it right now, since she's sleeping so soundly). And we try to go to the Mom's Movie at our local theater (yesterday was JUST LIKE HEAVEN). Also, she's been to my office more times than I'd like to admit.

Sleeping We're working on this. We start to put her down around 8pm (so DH can get some time with her) and it takes until nearly 12midnight for her to be REALLY asleep. We put her down sleepy, she might stay asleep for 1/2 hour, then she's crying. We don't always pick her up, but we're up and down for hours trying to get her finally asleep. We swaddle her and that helps, but I wish I had a better idea of what to do. Maybe I'll get the Baby Whisperer.

I'm no hero! I just worked really hard with Will to get him to sleep properly! I put him down at 2, he was sleepy, but awake, and heis still snoozing, although I took some pics of him, with the flash, mind you!
The 2 books that helped me: Baby whisperer, and Weissbluth. I didn't agree with all they both said, but I took the parts that were appeling to me, and mixed the whole thing up. And it is working for me. I could say it is going well since a week, but since the last 2 days, it is a charm! I'm following Weissbluth for the 2 hour window thing, and BW for the E.A.S.Y. thing.
He wakes up, we feed him, we go into the living room, and play, when he starts to yarn, we go back to the room, ahave some cuddle time, and I put him to bed. Since yesterday, I don't have to go back, and if I do, it is because there is something...the dipaer is wet, or he has a burp to pass.
He now wakes up not crying but cooing, and when he sees me arriving in his bedroom, he smailes and coos!!! SO CUTE! So I guess him waking up fussing was a sign that he was overtired.
It took about a week or so to make this work, and this period wasn't easy, but now SO worthwhile. I have to make concessions, but I love to see my boy in such good mood all the time.

Sonya I kinda recognised you!
I had read W. before Will arrived...thank god I did!!! But just reading the summary at the end of the chapeters an be enough for now. Consistency is the key, and that is where I have to make concessions... I don,t go out as much, and took (and still take) whatever time it takes to put him down.

Daniel's kitty He wasn,t too keen on having him down so early, but after a couple of night/weekend days where he had to take care of him on his own while Will was fussy kinda made him understand... :p Now, he knows better that to wake him up (and my faces also says it ALL! )

Leslie Connecticut, a little too far, :p
How's Sal???

Thanks for asking about Sal. I was going to post an update in LJ, but I have not had time. They still don't know what's wrong with him.:( It doesn't look like he'll be coming home tonight either. His older brother and his mom went to go see him about an hour or so ago and shortly after they got there, he was taken for an MRI. They still think it's stress, but they're trying to rule everything else out. So far, they know it's not his heart or his lungs. Now they're trying to rule out the brain. Hopefully we'll know more soon. He's really upset about being there away from us. But, when I asked him if he wanted us to come see him, he said he wanted me to stay home and take care of Luke, so that's what I'm doing. :)

He told me NO! And then he realised, that this question was a double sided question, and he understood that I meant William...Since then he respect his needs.....

Dh and I were just talking about getting Arrena's portrait done. I know her grandparents are itching for it. She's just getting to where her awake time is fun and has smiles and not grimacing adn crying. Hopefully, I'll get that done before I go back to work.

Cosmo Thanks. It is getting better. Last night, we gave her a bath and fed her, swaddled her, and we only had to go in maybe 3 or 4 times. She was down for good after eating at 10:30pm and slept until 3:30am. I was hoping for another hour, though, because I woke up at 1am with another painful gas bubble (why do I get these?!) and couldn't get relief even after losing what was left of my dinner (any question as to why I'm 13 lbs less now than pre-pg?? ). I finally got to sleep at 2:30am.

Still, right now, my angel is happily swinging away - alternating between awake and asleep. She's smiling much more. I have got to get a picture of those smiles. Really beautiful.

Question For moms with daughters (though moms with sons can answer, too): Are you going to get your daughter's ears pierced? If so, when??

I finally got a picture of Lucas smiling!!
I had him in his swing and I could hear him cooing. I went to see what he was up to and he was staring at the side of his swing just smiling away.
Awww....so cute!!

Darrien That is great! FOr us, it was like that for a couple of days, and afterwards, it became what it is now i.e. sleep only in his crib, and nearly never have to go. I do sometimes, when he needs something, or just his paci. And then that is it. Sometimes he stays the longest time in his bed awake, and we don,t even know!!!

Leslie I wore a skirt, and a wool shirt. Nothing too much, and yet chic.

Michelle - I know I've already told you but Rachel looks precious!

Lora - Love that pic of you and Zack...you're glowing!

Jillian - Lucas' smile is adorable! I *wish* I could capture one on film!!

Darrien - I'm getting Lina's ears pierced when she's 3 months. I've heard of earlier, and I've heard later...but 3 months seems to be the general consensus that's not TOO criticized. :p

Preston was baptised last weekend. I wore black dress pants and a gray sleeveless shirt. I thought about wearing a dress, but then realized that it would be a little difficult to pull that over my head to nurse! DS wore what DH wore when he was baptised.

What a great smile!

I am so happy. I tried some lactose free formula to see if it would help with his gas. It has been a day and he has already been so much better. It looks like I will be trying to cut dairy to keep bfing. I am planning on trying it.

Great pics, Kiley! I love the baptism outfit!!! And thank you for pointing out the difficulties of wearing a dress. Dummy me-I hadn't even thought of that and I was planning on a dress for myself. We're having the baptism and the party as our community clubhouse. I don't even know WHERE I will nurse Luke-definitely best to find a nursing friendly outfit. Back to the drawing board!

Kat, definitely supreme! I guess on my last trip to the store I picked up the wrong package...they are almost the same but just don't do the job. We've had a flood every day since and our first blowout today...he's on outfit #3 (now with spit on the collar) and I'm on my second shirt...yay for laundry...

Hmmm, Alice Now I'm wondering if that might be the problem...Abigail has blasted out of her last three diapers, and I'm using the regulars not Supremes this time, too. Will have to do an unscientific study! ;)

Look at those adorable babies! I'm jealous of all the smiling pictures! Abby is definately suffering from 2nd child syndrome in that regard - I don't think I've taken a picture of her in 3 weeks! Reminder to self - get out the stinkin' camera tonight!!

We have had a much better day for napping. I'm still only a few pages into the Weisbluth book, but am vowing to get ideas. However, Abby is finally sleeping, and has been for an hour or so. She definately didn't go down easy, but I've been able to get most of the laundry room painted, and I'm thrilled!!! We might even be able to get the floor in tonight, and then I'd be able to have my washing machine hooked up again - yes, I've been without for almost a week, again! Gah - the mountains of laundry I'll have tomorrow. But, the laundry room is looking so much better. I'll post pics when its all put back together.
Off to finish and pick up Tallia from school. :)

What cute pictures of all our little August babies!!

**I also have had NO LUCK with Huggies- I have been using Pampers & they seem to work well.

**Does anyone elses baby have baby acne? How can you get rid of it?

**Quick question - Has anyone stopped breast feeding and started formula yet? This is the situation- I HATE BREASTFEEDING!! Brady is three weeks and I have been BF since he was born. Although, I REALLY wanted to BF I just can't take it anymore (nipples kill, very time consuming, yadda, yadda...)!! I tried to only pump & it just wasn't working. So...I am ready to switch to formula. I am not sure if it is easy to switch from BF to formula? Thankfully, he does take a bottle. Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks! ~Jennifer

Hey ladies - I wanted to come post a pic of little guy. Feel free to use this on the first page with all the pics. It is from his photoshoot. We are doing another family shoot this weekend. The photographer is giving us a comp sitting. She is in my mommy group, and I think she is building her portfolio - but great for us because she is REALLY good and really inexpensive. Like $4 for an 8x10! Oh here is my favorite - QUESTION - Should I get this in color or B&W for the little guys room? Opinions???
http://essinoriginals.com/robert/images/DSC_0002.jpg

going out - well we go out a ton but these past two days we have been trying to BF again and OMG talk about time consuming - I cannot wait until we have this down again so we can go out like we use to. My goal is to BF in a carrier.

Speaking of carriers I bought two Mei Tais this week

I got this one from babyhawk.com but my straps are a caramel color. It is lined with the minkee fabric so it will be nice and snugly for him this winter (although I wish I saw what val got before I ordered this as I would of probably got that one)
http://www.babyhawk.com/images/kimononat.jpg
but my straps are a darker caramel color.

and this from www.sachicarriers.com (she is having a sale on the instock meitais and she has great reviews if anyone is interested - also the curved top that goes up is suppose to be good for newborns) - I think this will be my everyday carrier it is pretty basic...I got it with cream straps. It is a soft cord with the embroidery. Here is the fabric.
http://www.sachicarriers.com/large_images/cordembroid.JPG
The carriers look like this on (can also be worn in the back):
http://www.sachicarriers.com/images/4mo0006.jpg

I also ordered the marina hooter hider this week.

Yes I have been on a shopping spree. We are going to monterey next weekend and I wanted a few carriers in case one gets dirty - I know I am a dork. I have been using my wrap and I love it, but DS gets a little hot in it so I thought this would be a bit better for him. YOu know gotta test them all out. ;)

Huggies or Huggies Supreme now I don't even know which ones I got??? This last time around I picked up Pampers Swaddlers just to see if they were any better. I am so tired of the floods!! all over him and of course all over me!

Reading I hope to get to that soon! I have been trying the 5 S's and putting him down in his cradle half alseep and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Today I finally gave in and after 2 hours of putting him down and picking him up I put him in his swing and he is finally staying asleep.

Darrien As far as painful gas, did you have a c-section. I ask because I did and ever since I have had the most painful gas.

I got little man's professional pics done today. All in all it wasn't bad at all. we did it in two sessions cause he got tired, so I put him so sleep and we were able to catch some more pics!

I am loving all the PICS!! All the babies are PRECIOUS!! We seriously have a fine looking bunch! :D

I'm sorry for those of you(Jennifer & I know there are more) that are having so many troubles BFing. PLEASE Don't feel bad for going to formula!! Do what's best for you and your baby!! Hugs!!

Diapers - I've been using Pampers swaddlers and I love them. No leaks, she blew out of the back of one ONCE, but it was the first time she slept for 4 hours!! Hasn't happened since, thank God! I have some huggies too, but I like the pampers....they fit better.

Stacy - I am in LOVE with your mei tai! Saying that makes me want a frou frou drink. :p And judging by that pic, it looks WAY easier to tie than my wraps!! I wonder if I can persuade Gino to get me one of THOSE! :o Who'm I kidding? He'll kill me if I even ASK! At any rate, it's very pretty. I say black and white for the pic...but I love black and white(and that's what I'm planning on doing in Lina's room..so I guess I'm partial).

Michelle - That is a great pro-pic...but I can only see one. I can't wait to get Lina's done...I need to book her an appt...hmm....

I have a question about baptisms...What is the usual age that people have babies baptised? I am clueless. :o

Can I just say that this bouncy chair my friend brought over is a miracle chair? I think we've finally found the solution for getting Avery to sleep when she's overtired.... :)

I got my mei tai today from rosiebaby, and omg, IT IS GORGEOUS. I can't believe how beautiful it is - I'm wearing it to a wedding this weekend and I daresay I'll rival the bridal party for fancy duds. :p And I can't get over how easy it is to use. I was able to put it on, by myself, on the first try, without any difficulty. And Avery fell asleep in it within minutes. The only major problem with it? Now I want another one........ :D

**I also have had NO LUCK with Huggies- I have been using Pampers & they seem to work well.

**Does anyone elses baby have baby acne? How can you get rid of it?

**Quick question - Has anyone stopped breast feeding and started formula yet?

Baby Acne - it will just clear up on its own. Both our boys cleared up by...oh...week 5 (Im guessing, would have to go back and look at pictures). They had it for about two weeks and it hasn't returned (they are 9 weeks old this weekend).

BFing to formula - I can understand your frustrations! I gave up because they were loosing too much weight and I had to supplement. But it was so hard to BF two newborns. They were too small/weak/new for me to BF at the same time, and both were always hungry at the same time. It was so time consuming that all I did was feed babies and was exhausted.

For us, it was an easy switch to formula, neither of our boys had any problem with the transisition. We didn't know where to start with formula either, so we looked for a formula that was readily available and was not priced too high and started with that, fine tuning what forumla we would end up as time went on.

We started them off on a regular formula that we could find at Cosco, figuring thats where we would be purchasing it. We first started with Similac Advance. We switched to Infamil (the equivilent to the similac) because our pediatrician said it was similar and offered us tons of it for free. It caused them consitipation, but it was probably from switching suddenly (I didn't know you were suppose to gradudually switch them over). Then they started having problems when we switched back to similac. Nate began getting really fussy. Both boys have always been really gassy - even when I was BFing. Our Ped offered us Infamil GentleEase (formula-light...LOL...it has only a fraction of the lactose of regular formula). That helped, but not enough, so we finally switched to Similac Soy. Both boys are doing great! It took about 3 days for the lactose to get out of their system and for them to be doing well on it. We probably should have just simply started with Soy, since I myself as a child had sever milk allergies.

diapers - The Pampers we tried had really small tabs and didn't stick well, and the sides were so thin they were practically transulcent. We HATED them, because in the dead of night it was hard to get the tabs to work. I received a sample in the mail the other day, and the tabs were much wider and were more like the Huggies that I have used. Is this the difference between Swaddlers and regular Pampers?
What was the difference in the Huggies vs Huggies Supremes? I haven't paid too much attention - we get leaks from time to time, but I haven't even paid attention to what kind of diaper we were using at the time.
We also tried Luvs, but we hated the way they fit the boys.

Im just loving everyones pictures of their sweet babes. They are adorable! Its so unbelievable that these are the amazing result of our pregnancies. Its been an incredible journey with all of you, and its thrilling for me to see your precious bundles of joy!

Okay, enough sappy (but I really mean it, I adore looking at all your babies).

I can't believe how much these guys have changed. Nate, our "little guy", has SUCH a personality. He is going to keep us on our toes. He is constantly busy - his body is never still and he is always looking at everything. He is cooing, smiling and is full of expression. He loves being outside.
Pete, our first born and "Big guy" is so very laid back. He loves to cuddle and snuggle, much more interested in people than anything else. He still seems very "baby" to me, he cries and gets this sad/helpless look whereas Nate just screams from impatience LOL. Both just melt my heart.

I have a couple pictures of my guys.

Formula We may switch pretty soon since we tried Similac lactose free for a day and he seemed so much less gassy, but first I am going to try to give up dairy. I think he inherited my lactose intollerance. :(

Baptism It kind of depends on religion. Catholics are shortly after birth(first few months). Some religions make you wait until the childe is old enough to decide. It all depends. We plan on doing it pretty soon though.

Tina Ican't see some of the pics. Don't know if it is just me. Glad you seem to have the formula figured out.
Huggies Supreme have extra leak guards in the legs and feel fancier. With Ben we need the extra protection since he can cause a clothing and bedding change with every diaper otherwise.

TinaThank you for the advice about formula & baby acne. Your little guys are too cute!! I give you all the credit in the world for having twins. We tried our first formula bottle tonight and it was sooo nice & easy. We ended up going with a powdered mix. Brady also slept for more than three hours!

DiapersI think I jinxed myself for praising the Pampers- major blow-out tonight! But , it may be that they are a new pack of reg. Pampers. Before we were using the swaddlers with great luck!!

Tina, maybe the Pampers you had were the Baby Dry? IMO, those suck! We got a package from the hospital, so I figured I would use them-horrible. They have no elastic, which makes it very hard to put them on.
Great pics of the boys-I can't believe how big they are getting!

Michelle, I could only see one pic, but the one I saw was adorable!

Carla, which bouncer is it??? Luke is not a fan of his after anywhere from 5-15 minutes. :(

diapers-We're strictly using Pampers Swaddlers. We were using Pampers and Huggies last week because I had a pack of Huggies to get rid of. I don't know if they were Supremes or not? Actually, I don't think I knew there were regular and supremes!

Baby acne- Luke's is horrible! The ped told me it's completely normal, all hormonal, and will go away after about 3 months. :(

Baptisms- what Kat said exactly.

I am so jealous of the mei teis! I can't wait until mine comes.

Sal came home last night. He's still not breathing normally, but he is doing better. It was so nice not to sleep alone again. He wanted to jump right in and help me with Luke and it was so hard for me to tell him to just lay down and relax because I could really use a break. I have my 6 week pp appt today, so Sal's mom is going to come over and stay with them while I'm gone. I've been itching to go to the mall, so Sal wants me to take some time for myself today and head over there. Speaking of which, I need to pump! I thought I was on the road to recovery as far as my infections go-my nipples are looking better and the mastitis is going away, but yesterday I started getting shooting pains in my nipples. Thank God I have an appt today-I am so over this!

Guess who slept through the night?

I don't remember when he went to sleep, either 10 or 11 PM he slept until 5 AM. That's 6 or 7 hours. He also slept from 6-8:30 after that. Both times I put him down partly awake and he fell asleep in his crib for it. I hope this is a pattern and not a one time thing. I was so engorged at 5 AM. I pumped 3 oz, and I was still full, and then he woke as I was putting the milk in the fridge and I fed him.

Now we need to work on naps, he didn't take any yesterday. Also, he is regressing in his taking a bottle. He took one right away when we introduced it at 4 weeks and have been giving him a bottle once every other day since then, but last night he screamed into it. He finally took at 1 oz per attempt.

I went to my 6 week appointment, and checked in and sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes. I went to ask the desk what was up and said that my doctor was called away for a delivery, and I'd need to reschedule the appointment. How long were they going to let me sit there???? What a waste, I used up a couple hours of my "alone time" going there, I could have gone out and been productive during that time. So I'll have my appointment at 7.5 weeks.

Alex67I was wondering that too! Braden has blue eyes now and I hope they stay blue. My mom said that if they are blue with white specks they'll remain blue. If they have other color specks they may change. However, my mother doesn't know everything (even though she thinks she does!) This was her experience with my sisters & I.

I was wondering about the eyes too. Lina's are this gorgeous greyish-green, with a few light specs(every once in a while they are bluish/grey)...but Gino and I both have brown eyes. His dad, 2 of his brothers, and 4 nephews all have light eyes though. I expect them to change to brown, but it would be cool if they didn't. :) Can you see it in this pic?

Thanks for all the comps on Rachel's picture! I love looking at everyone else's too. We all have beautiful babies!!

diapers - we like the pampers swaddlers, pampers dry, and huggies supremes (although I did get one bad batch that leaked). We were also given some luvs and they're working ok, but I don't think I'll buy them myself.

eye color - Rachel has blue eyes right now and they're dark blue like mine, so I don't think they'll change. I was really hoping they would be green like her daddy's.

baby acne - Rachel has it too, but not too bad. The ped. said not to do anything and it would clear up on its own.

OMG all of these cute babies! I swear I can't stop looking at all of the pictures. I need to figure out how to get some of Jonah up here to share, but we never seem to be able to catch him awake and not crying, let alone smiling -- hopefully that will come soon.

Leslie ~ Glad to hear Sal is back home, and hope that he continues to get better. That must have been so scary for you!

Carla ~ I was going to post about your job situation -- way to go on turning it down. I have a similar thing going on here, having the opportunity to start a whole new job soon rather than going back to my old one. It might be a somewhat positive career development choice, but it's not nearly as flexible as my current job, where I can work from home a fair amount, work part-time, and stay home one day a week. I'm just not willing to give up the possibility of having an extra day at home and the added flexibility with a new baby, KWIM?

I still haven't gotten my pretty momma wrap, and all of you ladies are making me jealous!!

Ah, well, today is DH's birthday so I need to figure out what I am making for dinner and get to the store. That's assuming that the little terror will cooperate ...

I am loving all the beautiful pictures!!! And, I'm feeling guilty, since I think the last time I took a picture of Abby was 3 weeks ago! :o

I dropped her off at the sitters today for the first time, and am completely surprised at how hard I'm taking it! I was near tears all the way home. I only dropped her off for 2 1/2 hours, just to start transitioning her so I can go back to work, and the sitter is one who took care of Tallia for a few months and is absolutely wonderful, but I still HATE IT!!! Of course, Abby didn't make it any easier that she woke up just as I was leaving and was super happy baby, smiling, cooing, wiggling around! I'm a bit worried, since she's only had one bottle so far. (Actually, I super proud of the fact that she's only had one bottle so far - it means that bf is going well for us, which is such a huge hurdle for me! But, I'm worried because I hope she takes it fine with Anna if she needs to eat!). Other then that, I have a huge list of things I need to do, so should get to work on a few of them before I have to pick her up again. Will put himself in the doghouse this morning when, as he was leaving, he happened to mention that he would be at least an hour late getting home tonight. Meaning I have an extra long day with the girls, AND have to finish putting the laundry room back together AND have to catch up on a week's worth of laundry AND have to get the grocery shopping done for HIS birthday party this weekend AND have to get the house cleaned for HIS party AND have to get the yard pulled together for HIS party. His being late and his casual remark "What are you going to do with all your free time today? You don't really have much to do, so maybe you can relax a little while Abby's at the sitter's" about cause me to bite his head off. How can men be so incredibly clueless???

Yea I could see all the great pics of Pete and Nate!! Aww what cuties!

Wow, someone slept through the night! I am so envious, that is great. Ben is hitting his growth spurt so he was up most of the night eating.

Eye color Bluish grey right now, but they will probably change to green.

I have some friends whose tradition is to mail around a newborn chile pepper costume for the baby to wear for Halloween (for fall babies). The babies always cry in it, we have photos. I think Caleb is going to be too big for it next month, but here was his photo. I may have to come up with a different costume.

OMG Holly!!! He is too cute!!! But he does look like he might outgrow it by Halloween! :)

Jen I just wanted to quickly weigh in on your dilema about bf vs. switching to formula, and I have to agree with Kim. Don't let anyone, including yourself, guilt you about switching. The bottom line is you want a happy healthy baby and a happy healthy mama. Sure - there are lots of well known benefits to breastfeeding, and I'm sure you know them. But there are lots of very healthy, happy babies who are formula fed. If bf isn't working for you, switch, and be confident knowing that you are making a good decision for you, your baby, and your family!

Tallia and I had a miserable time bf, and I felt so incredibly guilty when I switched, but it really was a very good thing for both of us! When we transitioned, I was still nursing her a bit, and pumping a bit. Her first few bottles of formula were mixed with breastmilk - I took whatever I had pumped, and topped off with formula (2 oz breastmilk + 2 oz formula, for 4 oz bottle). Pumping was a disaster for me the first time, so I didn't have a lot of bm to add to the bottles, and as that decreased, I gradually increased her formula until we were done breastfeeding all together. She had already been taking a bottle pretty regularly, so the switch was really easy. I think, all told, it took less then a week, and that was likely more for my benefit then hers.

Eye color Abigail has had dark blue eyes since birth. They've lightened only slightly, so I think she's going to have big blues just like her sister! I have blue eyes and Will has hazel, so unless they turn hazel on us, she's probably stuck with blue.

Tina Your boys are adorable!! I love how expressive they are! The second picture of Nate in his carseat is priceless!!

And Kim Those cheeks are so smoochable!!! Abby has cheeks like that and I just want to nibble on them! :)

Off to change the laundry, then pick up my girls! YEA!!! Looks like mama survived the first trip to daycare!

I know how easy it is to beat it up yourself up about formula! I would have quit, but I was too afraid that people would be mad at me. And some people are still upset that I am thinking about switching so his tummy feels better even though I really am enjoying it more now.

I don't know what it is about these diapers...we've had two more leaks since my last post! I think the ones I liked (supremes I guess) had smaller tabs that wrapped around his leg better and an extra elastic strip across the back so they fit his waist better. We had Swaddlers at one point but they didn't seem to cover as much bum. I pulled out the next size up from a package I have to see if thats what we need but they practically come up to his armpits! Better get to the store and get some more good ones...

Kim Baptisms can be whenever it suits you and your religion I think!

I am having a HELL of a time getting poor little Jeb set at a pediatrician. Military medecine, free though it may be, is the biggest bunch of paper pushing idiots....I think I've cried everytime I've been on the phone with them because I'm always told something different. They won't give me an appt when I need (a one month weight check doesn't do much good when he's 6 weeks), everytime he seems to go to a different clinic while his record sits at the hospital, the hospital clinic is "closed for enrollment" (huh???) ...fill out this form, oh you don't need that form, go to the clinic by zip code, he'll be assigned a clinic you choose....WHICH IS IT?!?!  You get what you pay for in this world!

Formula When we supplement some he takes Good Start with DHA and ARA...he seems to like it but I'm lucky he doesn't have any allergies or anything so far.

Eye color His are dark blue but maybe getting lighter. Mine are very blue and Kevin's blue green so I think they'll probably stay something like that.

We do have the best bunch of photogenic babes! Here's some more for fun. A relatively bad picture of me still swollen but this was the day after he was born...and you can tell how much he looks like us!

SonyaThank you for the advice! Your post was exactly what I was looking for. It is very hard for me to stop bf, but I know that it is for the best. I gave Brady his first formula bottle last night and he sucked it right down! I have bben pumping today and giving him that. I am going to try the half BM & half formula for his next feeding. Thank you for the great idea!

I had the best day out by myself! :D And Luke was a good boy while I was gone. He sucked down all of the EBM we had in the house! I did start to get sad towards the end of my trip to the mall when I saw some babies. I knew then it was time to head home. lol I think I got something I can wear for the baptism. We'll see. I finally got my LilyPadz from The Right Start (the stupid ebay seller I bought them from never sent them so I got a refund). While I was there I bought a cd of 101 Toddler Favorites. I am constantly trying to sing songs to Luke and realizing I don't know the words, so hopefully this cd will help us out. lol I also stopped at Old Navy and bought one of the cute "Born In 2005" outfits at Old Navy. I saw on their web site that they have 2006 ones, too, but they didn't have them in the store. Booooo! I'll have to order one online for my best friend.

Holly, love the chili pepper costume!

Kim, Lina is getting so big! I love her cheeks, too.

eye color-the ped said they change up to 3 months, but I read somewhere else that it could be 6 months. Either way, Luke's eyes are a sapphire blue-sometimes they're so dark that they look purple! They are just gorgeous.

Oh, I forgot the best news. I didn't gain as much weight as I thought while I was pregnant. It turns out I was much heavier than I thought *before* I got pregnant. Long story short, I've lost all of my pg weight plus some! Yay me! Not that I don't still have a lot to lose, but whatever. :p

Baby Acne Aidan's got it too I wish it would just go away. They seem to pop up more when he gets angry.

Holly I love that chile pepper costume!! I may have to pull out Aidan's costume early and see if he is still going to fit in it.

Leslie It's so nice to be able to get away, even if it's just for a few hours.
Eye color I know it can change, but Aidan has hazel with a few light specks, his dad had hazel eyes, but mine are brown so hopefully they stay like his daddy's

We had such a bad night last night! Well at least until about 11pm. Aidan had what we think was bad gas! We gave him Mylicon and poor little guy keep farting and burping and letting out some blood curling screams! I would put him down and five minutes later he was up screaming. I had some cereal last night and I used Lactaid milk, supposed to be lactose free, but I have a feeling that might have had something to do with it, B seems to think it was because I had too much Diet Dr Pepper. I don't know anymore it is just so frustrating!!!
Today he won't sleep again, in my arms he closes his eyes but is still so restless, I finally put him in his swing and he has been sleeping for about 30 min. I hate to get him used to sleeping in there but I need a break throughout the day even if it's only for an hour! Any suggestions for relieving gas?????

Ohh forgot to say Way to Go Leslie on the Weight Loss!!!!

I am 4 weeks pp and I have lost 33lbs still have some to go, I tried on my jeans yesterday and that was joke  I know, I know it took me nine months to gain all that weight so I shouldn't expect to lose it all at once but it would be nice.

Mickey Sorry you are having problems with lactose too. I think we will wind up putting Ben on formula since I suck at giving up dairy, I tried the formula and he did great. I was so happy with it, but now I have the giant dilema of to bf or not.

Speaking of weight loss, what exercises are you ladies doing to flatten your tummy?

I'm only 3.5 weeks pp but have a good amount of flab left over to tighten up. Should I just do crunches or try something else? (in addition to some cardio exercises of course)

I also have lost my preg. weight, BUTI still can't fit into anything!! I am thinking about signing-up for a pilates class, but I am not sure if I should start just yet b/c I had a c-section. Has anyone else started to exercise after their c/s?

Leslie - I am jealous that you got out of the house!! My DH said that he would take care of the baby on Saturday so HOPEFULLY I can get ou
