Does anyone watch either of these shows? I started out watching Nanny 911 and then Supernanny came out. I watch both of them because they are very similar.

I am just shocked everytime I watch these shows to see how bad people can really let their kids get.

I watch them both as well (although I like Supernanny better), and am also pretty astounded at how the kids on it act. I don't know if their behaviors are really that drastically modified in a week, but it's interesting to see how implementing rules, schedules, discipline, and boundaries can affect how children react.

It's quite sad that parents these days are so incompetent. I question the long term commitment of these families to keep it functional.....

I wish they would do an update show on the families to see if the stuff the nannies teach them sticks.

I watch both. No kids of my own, but I nanny part-time for 2 families.

Did anyone watch tonight's Nanny 911? That husband was unbelievably uninvolved!

OMG, the dad tonight was horrible! I couldn't believe it! No wonder mom was checking out when dad left. She had to be so exhausted.

I LOVE Nanny Jo, but DH won't watch them with me because it is like birth control for him. He's already anxious about starting a family, but this show sets him back years when we watch it. :D

These shows are birth control for ME! All of my desires to have children fly right out the window when I watch them. Jeez, but the kids are a nightmare. Makes me really appreciate my cats.

I like both of these shows a lot. Sometimes I've had a bad day with my kids then I watch the show and I think "Wow, my kids are angles". I can't believe how horrible some of them act, I mean the parents :) I don't remember which show it was on, but it was the one with a really pretty mom and her little 2 year old boy was out wandering the streets and she didn't even know it!! That drove me crazy!

Oh, ysolde, it's all about the parents in 99% of those cases. Most people would never let their kids get that bad, and I'm sure you wouldn't!

I love watching those shows, for some reason. I think it's just too hard to look away, even though the parents are making asses out of themselves so much of the time. I don't have kids yet, but I do think I learn things from watching the shows, too. Those nannies really know how to whip the families into shape! :)

I know this must have been a re-run, but this show was so upsetting. Did anyone else watch it? In case you saw it the first time around, it was about a military family where the father was about to leave for Iraq and the family was a huge mess. They had bajillions of kids (all girls but the baby, hmmm...) and they were all cursing, yelling and hitting. Worse of all was the mom. All I kept thinking was Andrea Yates. Scary.

I saw the one with the Military dad twice. I was shocked how much they all cussed. The young girl cussed like a sailor, and the 2 year old driving the 1,5 yr old around!? CRAZY!!

I to wish they would do a "where are they now?" thing.

If anyone's home with nothing to watch on tv, tonight's Nanny 911 features a former WCer. I used to hang out in her journal quite a bit. When I was watching the last 2 minutes of the show last week, I caught the preview and my eyes almost popped out when I saw her and her family.

Really!!! I'm watching it now, just by coincidence. Quiet evening at home, I guess. ;) :)

The probably don't for that reason...nothing sticks.;)

WOW! I just watched it now and then saw this post. Can you tell us her WC name? I have no clue who she was and I was around WC a lot. I didn't think this family was as bad as some. They were just a little clueless but lots of love.

Her name was TotallyBliss.

I agree they were clueless, but very loving. It seems like they wrote in b/c they were at their wits end, quite frustrated and just really wanted some strategies to be better parents. I mean don't get me wrong, Amari was quite a handful. He was a very strong-willed little boy. And the little girl had her ways too with all the hitting and whatnot.

But in looking back at some past families, they weren't too bad. Hopefully they have kept up what Nanny Stella suggested and are doing well.

Man, I cannot believe the amount of toys those kids had!

Adaya

I know, they had a lot of stuff. And it was funny when the father said that wasn't even all of them. He said Nanny Stella should see what he had in the closet for them. I can only imagine.

That's right, she was the family that had so many toys, that Nanny Stella was taking and getting rid of them. What did she end up doing with all the toys she pulled?

emschwar

She didn't really take them away for good. The older kid wouldn't stay in time out, so as punishment, she started taking away toys until he sat there. She let him earn them all back.

Thanks. I had read the recap on the website, just didn't know if she gave them all back or earned them. So thanks for that info.

What's funny was that I tried it with my toddler today when he wouldn't sit in time out and it worked! Of course, he's less stubborn and I didn't have to clear the room of toys before he sat down - I threatened to take one toy away, and he sat right down.

So you tried the time out on the "mat"? I don't have kids, but have always wondered if I did, would that work. I know all children are different, so who knows?

Thanks for the "real life" application. :)

I didn't try it on a mat, I did it in a chair.

Oh ok...cool. Glad it worked for you, and it's even better that you only had to get so far as one toy. Unlike last night where ALL of the toys were packed up and taken outside. LOL!! That little boy was extremely stubborn.

I watched this last night, but I didn't realize that she was a former WC'er. I also didn't think they were as bad as other families you see on those shows. I also thought they had a beautiful house.

Has anyone read any of Supernanny's books? I'm looking for real life feedback.
DS is 22 months and I'm wondering how to discipline him. We're big into routines, etc so I'm thinking some of her methods might work well for us.
