I'm here! It's good to know there are a few more Michigan ladies on here.

The weather has been ridiculously hot, but we are supposed to get a break this weekend (low 80s). 80 degrees will seem cold after the weather we've been having. :)

kadee_29

We have a central air unit but right now it doesnt work. We had one guy tell us that we would have to replace the entire unit. So we are sucking it up with just a window unit right now.

I am glad its going to be in the 80's for a few days. I have yard work to get done and its not getting done when its in the 90's. LoL

Michigander here.

Man I must be spoiled I can't even imanage living without air conditioning. Sorry you girls have to do that. This heat sucks but I'm glad it's going to be cooler this weekend cause I'm moving and if it was still this hot we would be miserable.

So where in Michigan is everyone from? I live in the Lansing area.

So, anyone watch/go to the fireworks in downtown Detroit last night?

Delaney21
06-30-2005, 06:48 PM
I watched them on TV, but I didn't go downtown. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the way they were on TV. They were putting a picture over a picture, (like a close up over the top of a far away shot), maybe to try to make it look cool...but I thought it ruined the effect of the actual fireworks. Anyone else watch them?

I think I am the only one who has no idea what we are doing for the 4th. I usually leave it up to DH because MIL always has something or other planned for us. But I havent heard anything this year. We may take the kids to the fireworks at the balloon festival but other than that I have no clue whats going on.

LDS Angel 19

I watched on tv too, and I agree the way they did most of the camera shots was annoying.
I went downtown with my parents once when I was younger. It was awesome.

For the 4th I (think) I am hanging out with my Dad Sunday night, (he lives on Lake St Clair) and Monday our friends invited us to their house.

Hello ladies!
I'm so suprised and happy there's a Michigan thread!
I'm from the Ann Arbor area, I agree, the weather's been really crazy lately. Since dh works from home, we leave our air on all the time in the apartment.

hubby has today off so he hightailed it to his Mom's to swim in her pool all day so after I get out of work I'll join the mass exodus on the expressway (funfun ;)) and hopefully make it to Birch Run eventually ;)

Hi all! I am in the metro Detroit area, and am a Michigan State alum as well! :)

Silvergrey- try Douglas J Salon or Day Spa (one in Okemos and one downtown...the one dowtown used to be StephenDouglas. It is on Grand River by Charlie Kang's, I think.) or you can try the Douglas J training school which is on the first floor of the Marriot on Albert Street, right by Harpers, BW3s, etc.

07-11-2005, 08:53 PM
I'm a current MSU grad student livin' in Okemos. The Douglas J school on Grand River in E. Lansing is pretty decent. As I'm on a budget, you can't beat the $14 haircuts. The manicures are decent for the price and the atmosphere is the same as any Aveda salon, which is a neato bonus for the low price of $20...

Esq.
07-12-2005, 04:41 AM
neatgirlie- I completely agree! The training school was a must while I was a poor student, and I even drove back up there for a while after I graduated and moved to Ann Arbor. I still miss it everytime I pay a 60+salon bill now!

I grew up in Grand Rapids, went to Michigan State (I see there's a few other Spartans here :D), and then we lived in Holland the last 3 years. They live on the north side, on Lake Macatawa. How about yours? We've only been there once or twice this summer so far. We lived on the north side too, about 3 miles from my parents, and just moved to Kalamazoo 2 months ago. I miss Holland, so it's just weird to go back as a visitor and realize we don't live there anymore!

07-15-2005, 05:12 PM
Ok well then a gtg we will have. :D Now to figure out when. I will be out of the state from Thursday until the end of the month. After that I am pretty much free. Are weekends better or weekdays?? Are DH's included or girls only?? I dont know if Im the only one with kids so I wont ask about bringing them along unless other people are. Does anyone have a preference on where to go??

I am up for pretty much anything.

LynzeyAHL
07-16-2005, 06:12 AM
GTG sounds fun!

Any advise on apartments/where to live in the metro area? DH just landed a job in Pontiac and we will be moving when our lease is up in Lansing. Also anyone have a super great employer that's looking for good hard working gal?

I'm excited about getting to start over, but part of me is scared with the new town, new friends, new jobs part almost to the point of anxiety.

Thanks in Advance.

OH BTW I live right behind a HUGE (sharp in Delta Twp) park with a pavilion and play ground and Lansing's pretty centrally located. Metro park in Detroit is huge and fun with the water park in there as well.

Delaney21
07-16-2005, 09:09 AM
I think weekends are best because most of us work and will more than likely need to travel to a neutral GTG spot. Is everyone else ok with a weekend?

There are a couple of different things we could do. If we wanted to do something like a park like Lynzey suggested, we could invite our DH and children and make it into a picnic. Or we could do a lunch/dinner with just the girls. I don't have children, but I'm up for either option. I'm not sure how trilled DH would be about going, but I could always ask.

Hello!!

I stumbled across this in the Emotional Support 'I need friends' thread, and well, here I am! I'm 24 and I live in Woodhaven, which is in the Downriver area.

So I hear tell there's going to be a party! I've got ice and a blender, and I make the best chocolate dessert on earth! Where and when we talking? I'm totally down.

Also - where are you ladies getting your awesome toon avatars? I wants one!

Delaney21
07-16-2005, 08:57 PM
Geekgirl I'm in downriver too and there aren't many of us. The GTG is just in the beginning stages, so make sure to check back for updates!

Most of us got our avatars on avatarity.com, but you can search for "pinup toons" on other sites and maybe come up with more.

For everyone: I talked to DH about the GTG today and his suggestion was to have it be just the ladies this time, and if we all get along great then invite the DHs and children next time. Basically his reasoning was that it may be easier for us to get to know each other w/o our husbands and children around. If they are all there (Dh and children) it would be easy to just stick around them w/o venturing out to people we don't know. Maybe he's just saying this because he knows I'm shy? What do you girls think?

kadee_29

Katyanne
07-17-2005, 11:26 AM
I agree too, a ladies GTG first would be great. And then we could go from there. And weekends work best for me too.

Lynzey: Check this website out University of Michigan is always looking for great people in tons of different positions. http://websvcs.itcs.umich.edu/jobnet/index2.html

Is anyone familiar with Great Lakes Crossing? Technically its in Auburn Hills but its got easy access to all the major expressways It would be pretty easy to get to and have tons of different restraunts and shops to spend a day at.

Hey ladies,

I am a Michigan gal too - only I'm in Kalamazoo. Just wondering if any of you Detroit-area ladies can recommend a good photographer in the northern suburbs area? My in-laws live in Romeo, and we are hoping to find a photographer who can come to their house to take family portraits. I'm looking for someone who can do a combination of posed portraits and candid photojournalistic type work. I figured that many wedding photographers also do family portraits, so maybe some of you have some recommendations? Thanks! :D

Aug. 13th or 27th would work for me as well. I may bring my hubby along and he'd just go off on his own as well. He loves the Bass Pro outlets. And knowing him he could spend hours there.

Anyone ever been to Ludington? DH and I never have but we're planning a little get-away weekend the first weekend in Aug. We'll drive there early saturday morning and wander around all day then find a hotel that night then head back the next day. Sounds like there's alot of fun things to do.

Anyone who's been there or around there do you have any suggestions?

I grew up in Grand Rapids which is a few hours south of Ludington. My brother's wife is from Pentwater, and their wedding and reception were in Ludington. The beach there is great.

The only thing I would suggest is to do some research on nearby hotels in advance to see if any require a minimum stay. I don't know what it's like up in Ludington, but I know that further south (Muskegon, Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck) a lot of the hotels near the beach require a 2-night minimum stay in the summer. Just wanted to mention this because I don't want you to drive all the way there only to find that you can't find a hotel for 1 night.

Katyanne
07-18-2005, 08:41 AM
Thank You!!!
We've heard great things about the beaches there, can't wait to see them.
I hadn't even thought of that! I'll definately do some research on hotels there.

What specifically would you like to know?

Oak Park - Just north of Detroit. Has some nice areas, but get as far north of 8 mile as you can.

Southfield - Also just north of Detroit. Stay north of 696 and you'll be fine. There's a really nice apartment complex at 12 Mile/Southfield Rd that's not too expensive (relatively speaking for the area), if you're looking.

Ferndale - Trendy, cute, fun, artsy. Good Arabic restaurant on 10 Mile (I believe).

Waterford I'm not so familiar with. So when are you moving?

LynzeyAHL
07-29-2005, 06:25 AM
We're moving mid October. Basically we're looking at Village green townhomes in Ferndale, I think its pretty much ten mile and 696 by the map right near the zoo?!?

waterford is going to be about 15 minutes from where he works

and if we end up in pontiac (EEEEEK not my first choice) he'll be about 5 minutes from work so we're going thursday to check stuff out.

Right now its looking like waterford is the first choice based on how nice the girls in the office are, location, size and cost. (but I really want the town house so I can have a basement and my washer and dryer out of storage!!)

I'm sure many nights will be spent at the Butler and other area bars which will be quite fun for the rest of them... but I have found that since getting PG it is still fun to go out a bit.

Can you smoke in bars in Michigan? You can't in CT, which makes it nice for me to still go out...

Has anyone finalized any details on the GTG?? I think I saw that some people are mentioning August 27 and that it will be at Great Lakes Crossing, but other than that do we have any info?? Like what time?? What restaurant??
I think that someone mentioned what sounded like Stir Crazy, but didn't know the name. I am betting that would be great for a GTG, it's kind of like a mini BD's. I can't say much for it though, because I've only eaten at the food court, Rainforest and thanks to DH...Gameworks. :p

We havent decided on anything else other than the date and that its at Great Lakes Crossing. I am not familiar with that mall so I dont really know whats in it. I did peek at the website but most of the restaurants I have never heard of so I cant help there.

What about times?? Anyone have a preference?? I was thinking maybe 1 or 1:30.

LyLMyssChaos
08-09-2005, 09:33 AM
I think that 2:00 would be a better fit for LDS_Angel and myself.(sorry to speak for you shell! :o ) Our DH's have a company picnic that day at 12:00, so we thought we could go there for an hour or so and ditch my kids with the men so that we could join you ladies.

Great Lakes Crossing has the following restaurants:

Gameworks(2 story arcade with a restaurant/bar)
Rainforest Cafe(animal/jungle themed restaurant)
Johnny Rockets (50's themed Diner)
Miyako Japanese Steakhouse (hibachi style restaurant)
Kerby's Koney Island (self explanatory-cash only)
Stir Crazy (pan Asian food, mix your own veggies/sauces, the chef then adds meats and cooks it)
Thunder Bay Brewing Company (Michigan themed restaurant, Michigan related menu, brewery)

Also, right in front of/next to/within a mile of the mall, there are several other restaurants:
Chili's
On The Border(mexican)
Lonestar Steakhouse
Joe's Crab Shack-(seafood, very interactive staff, way fun, one of my faves!)
Olive Garden

Whenever is ok with me. Honestly probably the later the better. I have never been known to be on time for anything. I have a feeling its going to be even worse since we are driving to the other side of the state and we've never been there. :o

Does anyone have any preferences on where to eat?? Maybe we can take a poll of what everyone likes. Or doesnt like.

I was wondering also who exactly is going. Just curious to see how many are going to be there.

MrsSmith

Would it be better to go somewhere that everyone is familiar with (like Olive Garden or Chili's)? That way everyone would know what to expect and at least have an idea of what to order.

2pm sounds like a fine time for me. I'll try to get up there a little earlier anyway. I might do some shopping...;)

2 p.m. is good for me as well. As for which restaurant, I agree with MrsSmith. I'd love to do Olive Garden or Chili's.

If anyone thinks they will have trouble finding thier way, some of us that are from the area could exchange cell numbers to help you out if you want.

You usually have to call ahead to restaurants if you're going to have a group of more than 8 people. So, we'll need to confirm where we're going and who's going to be there at least a few days before we go.

I think a cell phone buddy system is great. I don't think anyone else is coming from my direction though. So, I might not be that useful...LOL

LyLMyssChaos

All righty...so far the details that we have nailed down are:

Saturday, August 27th
Great Lakes Crossing Mall
2:00 p.m.

I think that Chili's will be easier for people to find than Olive Garden, so that would probably work best out of the "familiar" places. It is smack dab in front of the mall parking lot, so once you get off the expressway, you can't miss it. Olive Garden is across the expressway and you gotta turn down a side street, but I can post directions here for anyone whom is interested if that is what we decide.

I second Michelle's ideas on the cell phone thing. I'd be more than happy to email my cell phone number to any group members whom may want it.

And thus far it appears that those whom plan to attend are:

1) LyLMyssChaos
2) LDS_Angel
3) MrsSmith
4) kadee
5) cocoa
6) Lynzey
7) Delaney
8) spencer's_girl

If I missed someone, just post as such and it will be corrected.
Oh and I will bring my digital camera so that we can post pics later for those that are unable to attend!

**sorry if it seems I overtook this whole GTG thing...I'm just very much a type A personality and when I see an opportunity to organize, I tend to jump all over it!! :o **

Just a suggestion, but maybe we should put in our signatures that we are having a Michigan GTG on the 27th so that other people who don't frequent this group often will know about it. What do you think?

Just popping in to say that I'm an original Michigan gal (currently stuck in a rut in Illiniois). My whole family lives there, close family in the Bay City area and extended in the Muskegon/Holland area. I know I'm technically an out of stater, but I MISS HOME! Did I miss anybody?? And we still need to finalize a locale. It sounded before like people were leaning towards something familiar like Chili's or do we want something else? I posted descriptions of the other places in an earlier post, and if anyone wants to check out the Chili's menu (http://www.chilis.com/menu/default.asp?Unit_ID=001%2E005%2E0605&tierID=7&menuType=Dine+In&menu=1), feel free to do so and let us know if there is something else you'd prefer!

So ladies, has it been decided that it's Chili's by GLC for the 27th?? Also, we should have our list most likely finalized by Friday, August 26th of attendees, so that way we can call first thing Saturday to let them know how many(if they take call ahead seating anyway ;) ) And we also need to figure out who will do it.
Again, here is our most updated list (as of 8/21/05 @ 8:20 p.m.):

Hey ladies,

It's just a few days before the GTG and I just wanted to make sure that everyone had finalized and was ready to go!

I think everyone has responded and there's nothing left to do. Did we decide if someone was going to call ahead for seating at Chili's?

That is too funny. I bet she has some great stories about marriage...LOL

I haven't been to Great Lakes before, but I'm assuming that you can see it from the express way or there's a sign telling you to get off, right? I'll find it. If not, I'll just get off at Baldwin Road.

Looking forward to it!

Mapquest it. I think The Joslin Rd Exit is less congested and you just go down GLC Drive and you'll hit baldwin rd (I checked yesterday when I went to see DH) that way it was ALL RIGHT TURNS which traffic around there has had the potential to give me road rage in the past ...

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it. I have to take the CPA exam on Monday and I'm really not ready for it so I am supposed to be dedicating the weekend to studying. If I can get enough studying in before the GTG, I will be there, otherwise, I will need to wait until the next one to meet everyone.

Oh no Delaney :(...I really hope that you can make it, even for a little while.

Mapquest gave me some horrible directions. It told me to take 75, get off at Telegraph, then take Telegraph to like Southfield and get on 696 and get on 75 again... Why in the world would I do all that? DIrections are funny. I'll just go the way I think...LOL

See you all tomorrow :)

Delaney, That's too bad. We'll miss you. But good luck with the CPA exam!

Mapquest does give screwy directions.

I just swpied this from the GLC website, maybe it'll help.

Hi girls, I have some bad news. I just got a call from LMC's DH. She's in the hospital. They think she may have had a mild stroke. So, needless to say, it's most likely that she won't be able to make it tomorrow, even if she gets to go home tonight. And I will probably go see her, so I'm not sure if I will make it or not.
Please think good thoughts for her. I'll update when I know something.

Sorry I didn't get back with an update yet. She's had a bunch of scans and tests, she finally got to go home Sunday afternoon. I guess they still really don't know what happened, it could have been a stroke or possibly a heart attack. I saw her Saturday afternoon and she was at least in high spirits. Since she's home now she might come by here herself with a better update.

So, did ANYONE make it to our poor little GTG? :)

Traffic was unusually bad in my area. I tried to make it to the GTG, but it was about 2pm when I hit the Detroit area and there were 3 accidents that really tied things up. I figured that no one would be there by the time I got there, so I just went to my mom's house.

Looks like no one went at all. :( Oh well. I hope everyone is doing alright and has a good week!

Hey everyone, I'm home from the hospital, and I am so sorry I missed the GTG! I swear, my little trip to the hospital couldn't have come at a worse time. Thanks for your well wishes. It's hard still a little hard for me to type, as I'm trying to get the strength back in my left arm/hand, but I'll give you guys the basics for now(if anyone wants the full details, feel free to message me and I'll email you a copy of my post from my livejournal, or if you have LJ, I can add you to my list if you want!) But, anyway, I did have a minor T.I.A which is very similar to a mini-stroke, just without the lasting effects. I should be able to recover quickly, but we are still working on the underlying cause. So far we know that I have something called : a slight occlusion of the left transverse venous sinus, which basically means that there are 3 major veins in your brain, a left, a right and a central. Well, my right and central are clean as a whistle, but there is a cloudy patch in my left one, which in the scan indicates a slight blockage. We'll know more after the nurologist gets back the blood work that he sent out that will tell him how thick my blood is, as well as some other things. But in the meantime, I'm on a 325 mg aspirin a day regimen to keep my blood thin, so that it doesn't clot up in the blockage and really cause a stroke or an anneurism. Now, how much would that stink? LOL Sorry, I have to joke about it because I'm really actually scared after having my 32 year old cousin pass away from a "headache" that was really an anneurism bursting, just like 3 weeks ago. From what I have found, this disorder was most likely a complication of my most recent pregnancy. Well, I'm going to go for now as my hand is still extremely weak and now it kills just from typing this, so I'll be following along, just probably not responding much, but I'll try to pipe in as I am able to!

Welcome Kallay! Sorry things have been kinda slow around this place lately.

I was wondering if perhaps once gas prices creep down a little more if anyone is interested in a fall get together since our other one crumbled?? I'd love to try it again and I promise, I won't be in the hospital this time around! :p Maybe us "easterners" could find our way out "west" this time??

Nothing new to report on my condition, I'm still in just terrible pain, but hopefully we'll know more soon. I've had a couple more TIA's, with a little more lasting side-effects, so that hasn't been fun, and I'm just worried that it is taking the doctor's so stinking long to figure this out. I think the worst part about this is that I just want it fixed, ya know? Tell me what we have to do and just do it already, goodness! LOL

Our kid's are growing by leaps and bounds. And just out of curiosity, how many of you ladies have kids?? I know that Kristen and I do, but does anyone else?? Are we all married?? Just checking for future get togethers.

I'm taking DH to the Michigan football game this weekend. Where are some good places to eat?

We're not "bar" people - we hardly ever drink. DH isn't a fan of super crowded places either (so I'm guessing campus type places are a no go). Any suggestions for reasonable good dining? We'll only be in town Friday night through Sunday morning.

In Ann Arbor, you can go to Mediteranno (across from the mall). I love that restaurant. There is a good Italian restaurant named Palio on Main Street. The Prickly Pear is pretty good. Gratzi is good, but pretty expensive. All of these, with the exception of Mediteranno, are on Main street and are *almost* within walking distance of the stadium.

Let me see if I can think of some more...

KADEE I don't mind it here. My husband is from up north (Gladwin) so we have family here. I am not from here. I am from TX, but the first time my DH took home to meet his family, I fell in love with MI.

We have been here since February. We bought our first house and just recently had our second baby. We have a son who is 16 months and our new son is 2 months.

We are in the Air National Guard and work at the Guard Base, you know the one that ALMOST closed down.

I am so loving the weather right now. This morning was WONDERFUL with the temps cooling off. Perfect weather for a bon-fire!

I don't mind winters at all. I have been stationed all over with pretty bad winters so they don't bother me to much. I just hate being stuck in the house! :(
-----------------------------------------

From my Hello from MI thread:

I have never been to Cereal City but we went to the Worlds Longest Breakfast Table and used the bathroom in there. I want to take our oldest boy there to have Breakfast with Tony the Tiger.

Do you gals have any get togethers??? I am so glad you ladies pointed me to this thread!

Like LMC said, we did try for one gtg so far but it sort of fell through. We are trying to get another one around for sometime this fall though. But if you ever want to get out of the house and do something let me know. I am taking classes at the local college but other than that Im normally free.

glad to hear it. I have lived in the ghettoest part of lansing. while we where there we had a package stolen off our front porch that were most of my christmas presents dan had ordered for me that year from LL Bean. Expensive wool sweater matching hat mittens and scarf. Someone took a baseball bat to my windshield and ppl would bang on our windows at night when they were cutting through our yard from the party store to the alley. We moved after 4 months I couldn't take it.

it taught me to go to neighborhoods at night before living there b/c by day it looked like a perfectly 'normal' neighborhood.

we stayed with the village b/c we didn't have to pay any fees since we live in the one in lansing that's the only reason and they offered us a short term lease with no adtl expense since we want to buy a house next summer.

Ooh that's good. Where abouts do you think you'll be looking at houses? Waterford, or will you be going back to Lansing?

well the next 9 months will determine how this job pans out EDS and GM have to renegotiate their contracts in 06/06 and we're hoping and praying that it means dh will still have a job if that happens then we'll be purchasing a home somewhere in metro detroit. I like the waterford area/lake orion/auburn hills/grand blanc and southfield are all not bad but Dan's grandparents are in St Clair Shores and I like that scs/roseville area too.

Guess it will totally depend on property values and such. We wanna start TTC first of the year so we will have to buy a house or be stuck renting with no room and a baby + gear so that's our motivation :o

Ladies, I have question for you...What bank do you go to and why?

The reason I ask, is because DH doesn't like CharterOne and wants to switch.

TIA!

We have Bank One. We like it ok. We have the "Maximum Strength Checking" with no fees or anything, and a savings acct. that is tied to the checking and will transfer money over automatically so we don't overdraw. We use the online banking quite a bit, but they are a little slow in posting transactions to it.

We also have Bank One. Overall, I like that bank (I switched over from CharterOne, actually First Federal back then), but I do think they are very slow to post transactions online. They do OK on weekdays, but they are slow to post on the weekends.

I wanna put my vote in for the Holly/Fenton area! :p :D LOL Fenton is actually nicer than Holly (but in Fenton, you pay more for the house, less for taxes, Holly it's more for taxes, less for the house.) Holly is about 10 minutes from I-75 and U.S. 23 runs right through Fenton. We live in Tyrone Township, which is just 5 minutes south of Fenton, on U.S. 23 and DH works in Wixom, so it's not too bad.

That is so cool that you will be living so close!! You, Michelle and I will definitely have to get together once ya move. Maybe even give ya a hand unpacking? I mean, after all, Michelle and I should be old pros at that business by now! ;)

I missed the question about the bank thing, so I had to chime in on it. We LOVE our Credit Union. We actually belong to 3 right now as well(one from when I was in high school that you have to live in/go to school in the town it's in, so I kept it in case we move there, we had to join one in San Antonio for our mortgage, and we have the one that we use.)

Hi Ladies,
My name is Jen and I am a newbie to this site (as of today!) I thought I would introduce myself to you, since I too am a Michigander. I was born and raised here, attended MSU, moved to the Northwest for 4 years (for my hubby) and just moved back to Michigan in January.

Anyway, I saw that there were a few MSU grads and UM grads here and I was just wondering... who do you think is going to win Saturday's game?

I personally would love to see the Spartans 5-0, but being a long time MSU fan (and a Lions fan :( ) I know that it can go either way.

Anyone want to start a friendly wager? Winners can gloat, losers can sing (or type) the winning school's fight song. Any takers?

I'll start...
MSU will be VICTORIOUS!!!
MSU will be 5-0 and UM will still be winless in the big10!

I hate to say it, but this is the first time that MSU has been favored to win since 1968, so it's gonna be the Spartans, unless Carr can pull off something miraculous! *sigh*

I am curious regarding all of the Wolverine fans. Why do you prefer them to State? If I had not gone to State, I would not give a crap about this game. I root for State bc I am a Spartan. I don't think all of the Wolverine backers posting went to U of M. So, I guess this question is really for Wolverine fans that did not go to school there. What makes you favor U of M? Just because they are usually favored to win?

On a side note: State is always the underdog, even when it is (rarely) favored to win. I like rooting for the underdog, and am proud to have a team that surprises everyone (not me) when this game comes around.

Sing it with me batgirl...

The reason I support U of M is because I have several friends that are alumni and it's kind of a joke between one of my really good friends and I...she is a diehard Sparty (she graduated in 2002) and so we constantly rib each other about who is better. I was supposed to attend U of M, but never did( I did work on a student film on campus there, though :o ). If I had my pick of all the college teams, it's all about BYU and the Florida Gators! LOL

In any event :p :

Like Kyrsten, I find it strange that there are so many U of M fans, but that's the way it always is. Everyone likes the team that wins, even if that means liking U of M Football, but liking State Basketball.

I graduted from U of M, but I am still a State fan. Weird I know, but in the area I live in, everyone is a U of M fan and they annoy the crap out of me.

I just don't understand why someone would be a fan of a college team, unless they went to that college, worked at that college, had a spouse or child that went to that college. Just bc that team tends to win? I don't get it. Unless I was in one of the above scenarios, I don't think that I would give a poop about this game.

You see, I root for the Spartans come hell or high water, win or lose. I am not rooting for them bc the usually win, but bc I actually FEEL something for the school that they represent. Some of the best times of my life were at that place, and I honestly love it. It was so nice to be at school again yesterday. I felt a bit old after watching all of the young'uns go by...but all the same...I love that school.

It seems to me, however, the majority of U of M fans are actually not alumni. Spartan fans are pretty much all alumni, spouses of alumni, parents of students, faculty, etc.

Jessica makes a good point...who do non alumni choose when it comes to basketball? Clearly, State always has the better basketball team (in the same way that U of M always has the better football team). So, if you are a U of M fan when it comes to football, are you a state fan when it comes to basketball? My bet is that most U of M football fans don't give a crap about basketball, or if they do, root for the Spartans bc they are the 'better' team.

I was crushed yesterday, as was everyone I was tailgating with. We went from screaming our heads off, to quietly cleaning up our site. Within half an hour we were all packed up and driving off, with nothing but sad looks on our faces. We played a good game though. A mighty entertaining game. And we hold our own, which no one ever gives us credit for. And when we win, U of M fans are always making excuses instead of giving the credit that is due. But, like I said before, we NEVER get the credit that is due. This is the second year in a row that this game has gone into overtime. Last year was triple overtime. That in itself says something about the Spartans, who are never favored to win, but every few years they do anyway.

I am a Wolverine B-ball fan and hockey fan too!! :p I told ya, I was supposed to go there and just didn't. I also had a former employer that was just over obsessed with the sparties and well, that killed any chance of liking them for me! LOL As for giving you guys credit?? You played an awesome game, it really could have gone either way this year and there were several times where I thought you guys could have won it. I acutally felt kinda bad for you guys losing it at home. I know how much sweeter a victory at home against a rival can be. If it's any consolation to you though, one of my best friend's makes sure my kid gets the fair exposure to state, and well, if I'm going to a college campus to hang out?? I usually wind up in Okemos, so ya know the crowd I run with. Sometimes I wonder if I follow the wolverines just to be the "different" one because it is total State country around here. LOL ;)

Nope...I'm not a fan of the pros...Timmy is convinced that it will be different this year with the rule changes, so we DVR'd the game and I'll check it out. My biggest pet peeve was with some of the rules and Timmy said they were all of the ones that they got rid of this season, so we'll see.
