We have a fiber optic connection, which is 10 Mbs (actually technically I think it goes up to 22 Mbs but you never actually get that). This is the fastest technology available right now. Pages will load instantaneously more or less. We also have telephone and tv through the same company (package deal). We pay through out teeth for this service (about $90/month) but we are on the computer all the time and we won't settle for less. What can I say? We're both computer whores.
I can tell you that once you get used to fiber, there is no way you'd go back to DSL so consider the price difference now rather than later.
These are Verizon's current packages (http://www22.verizon.com/FiOSforhome/channels/FiOS/root/package.aspx) .

Those of you with FIOS--
Do you need a phone jack to plug into? We currently have Verizon DSL and are considering switching to FIOS. We keep talking about moving the phone line (we are moving our PC to a different room) but then I realized that we probably won't need to do this if we get Fios. Right?

No. They need to install a hub and router in your house. It uses an ethernet plug.

We have cable...
8 Megabit/second down, with bursts up to 16 megabit
768+ kbit/sec up
DH so wishes that we had a fiber optic connection, but unfortunately its not available in our area.. When we move to Mass, finding a place that can provide it will be a big deciding factor as to which town we'll live in. :)

We have FIOS in our neighborhood now and Verizon trying to get us to switch from Comcast. Any recent experiences / comments?

We have Comcast (the 6 Mbps connection, 8 Mbps is $10 more a month). I MUCH prefer it over DSL. It's a very steady connection. We've lived in this house for a little over a year now and our internet was down once for a few minutes.
