View Full Version : How many nights in Vegas?

DH and I are thinking about going to Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend. We're unsure, though, whether we should go for 3 or 4 nights. We can afford to go for 4, but if we can fit everything in 3 nights, that would fit better with our work schedules and give us a bit of extra spending money.
We're not big gamblers - probably won't spent more than a few hundred on that - so we won't spend a lot of time in the casinos. We definitely want to see one or two shows and visit the Hoover Dam. Other than that, we plan to walk around and eat and shop a lot. How many days/nights do we need to comfortably fit all of that in?

I was just there for 3 nights, which is PLENTY, in my opinion. We're not big gamblers, nor are we smokers, and being from California, it's an adjustment to get used to the heavy smoke haze inside all of the hotels. After 3 days, I was more than ready to go home (my allergies went crazy from the cigarette smoke). But I've also been to Vegas before. If you've never been, you might want to do 4, though I think you can see everything you want to see in 3 if you intend on keeping busy and not laying by the pool.

I think 3 nights should be enough. We spent 3 when we went there the first and only time and it was plenty enough. Especially if you don't gamble much.

I thought 3 nights would be do-able, but I thought I'd ask since I've never been there before. I'm glad to hear I wasn't off.
I think 3 nights will be much better. We've never been to Vegas before, but I doubt it will be the only time we ever go out there (MIL goes once a year and she's always asking us to go). Besides, one less night means a lot less money spent and that'll come in handy around Christmas.
Thanks ladies!

We went last weekend for 2 nights and by the morning of the day we were leaving, I was ready to come home. Too bad our flight wasn't until 5:00 p.m.

I also agree that 3 nights is plenty. Vegas is great and all, but by the time the 4th day of our trip rolled around last year, we were getting a little burned out by all things Vegas. (We're not huge gamblers, either.)

It sounds like 3 nights will be plenty, which is great for our schedules and our budget. Thanks for all your help!

I personally don't find a week to be enough. There are soo many fun and free things to do there.
I barely gamble, but the sights are amazing, and the shows awesome.
Don't know what show you are plabnning to see, but if you want to see one of the Circ shows, you need to book your tickets online at least 2 months in advance. They sell out really fast.

I agree 100% with a week not being enough! As I said, we were there for ten days and we still didn't get to see/do everything that we wanted to do!! One of our favorite activities was a sunset horseback ride with dinner included out at Red Rock Canyon. Fantastic!!
On the Cirque shows...DH and I saw "KA" at the MGM Grand and also "Zumanity" at the New York New York. We bought our tickets for both of these shows once we arrived in Vegas. We went directly to the box office at New York New York; they sell tickets for all of the Cirque shows; regardless of which hotel they are at! We bought our "KA" tickets on Wednesday and saw the show that Sunday night. "Zumanity" we also bought on Wednesday and saw the show the next Monday night. I guess it just depends on what time of year you are going maybe? We went in April and had no problems getting our tickets. We had excellent seats for both shows; but one thing the tickets weren't was cheap!! We paid over $500 for both shows combined (and I think it may have been closer to $600!) Totally worth it though, especially for "KA", which is the most phenomenal show that I have ever witnessed in my entire life!!

Hmmm...okay, I wonder how the ticket situation will be Thanksgiving weekend. Pretty tight, I'd imagine. The people I know who have been to Vegas recently all bought their tickets once they arrived so I thought we'd do the same, but I may have to rethink that.
See, I'm normally quite a planner when it comes to vacations. It's not unusual for me to have itineraries for every day. We sometimes skip activities if we find something else to do or if we're tired, but it's been oh, over six years since we went on vacation without a firm plan for almost every day. It's hard to break the habit, but I want DH to have more of a say so I'm trying. Maybe I should hand over the planning reins to him?
Oh, scary thought! We'd be at strip clubs every night. ;)

I'm in the same bind. We've never had a vacation that lasted longer then 4 days before and we usually have the entire thing planned out before we leave. I am a total planner and it makes sense to me to know what to plan on the same days so we can make the best use of our time.
We are looking into a Vegas trip (for our 3 1/2 year delayed honeymoon) over Spring Break in March. I keep hoping that it won't be THE Spring Break destination this year or that our break is earlier than the norm.
Neither of us have been to Vegas before and we're trying to plan for 6 days/5 nights. We're hoping that is just the right amount of time for 2 frugal non gamblers to see lots of free stuff, spend time around the pool, and sleep late. We'd love to see some shows but I refuse to pay more than the cost of my hotel room for tickets (suffice it to say, we're staying at an inexpensive hotel). Plus, we'd like this to be a relaxing vacation and it certainly won't be if I'm freaked out over money. We've budgeted for the basics and left wiggle room but I'd prefer to eat someplace nice and have a great experience rather than attend a show that DH will get bored at (he's not a theater kinda person).

There are many, many shows in Vegas where you can get free tickets as long as you buy a drink or two in the showroom. It's a great way to save money. Here is a hint; most of those type of shows are only available in the afternoon/matinee time frames.

Two nights is plenty for me, so I would vote for 3 nights max.

Thanks for the tip Jimmysgirl. I've put our name out there on every Vegas site I can find that sends out information so we're starting to get some offers in the mail already for 2 for 1 ticket offers. I've heard that once you get to Vegas you can pick up their free magazine and it has a lot of discounts and coupons to make the trip a little less pricey.
