Since this was a popular thread in WC for many girls, I thought I would start it back up.
I had a BA June 14, 2005
I went from a 36B to a 36FULL D.
I am loving every minute of it.:D:D

Any suggestions on how to talk DH into letting me get them?? Well he did say I could get them if I really wanted to, but he wouldn't support me and wouldn't go with me to have the procedure done.
Note: Normally he's great, but he really has a thing against me getting implants.

I was one of those lurkers on the WC about implants and what I am really interested (not now but for the future) is info on lifting them (not sure of the correct term) so they don't sag. I'll probably do more serious research after I have a baby and stuff though.
But in the meantime, I'll probably come on in to get more info. :)

I had mine done years ago. My guy(at the time, NOT DH) was not that understanding with my interest in the surgery. I cleared it up for him by simply saying this:
"What if your *ahem*[insert word for private parts here] was as small as my pinky, but I said, 'Hey I think it's fine! It the perfect size for you, and it works like it's supposed to!!' But then YOU had to look at it in the mirror EVERY day and feel inadequate about your manhood? You may feel that YOU wouldn't change a thing about me, but obviously if I'm at the point of actually going through something like surgery...that has to show just how badly it bothers me."
He never said another word. Granted, it may not be that he's giving input on what he thinks, but moreso the dangers of surgery, etc. In that case you have to find a way to make him understand, taking the risks are worth it to you, kwim?

Oh, one more thing...if you were plannning on TTC within the next year, would you go ahead and get implants now, or wait until after you have a baby?
Camdynlyn
06-26-2005, 11:23 AM
We are planning on TTC in April 06. So, less than a year. I went ahead and got mine because I was afraid I would do the whole "maybe I should wait until after my baby" then wanting to have another one "oh, well I should wait till after this one" and then something comes up later.
My PS said that 1 of 12 women would come back in for a tune up and usually are happy with the results even after having children. They get a more natural look, from what I hear.
***
Okay, I have a problem. I am not going to post a picture but I will tell you all. I have a bruise that came up right on the bottom side of my left areola. It was greenish and small (size of a dime). Well, yesterday, it turned purplish but not bruising purple, more like busted blood vessel purple. When I lay down, I can feel a little knot. Hubby says it is a bruise but I can't get my freaking boob close enough to the mirror to see. It hurts slightly and feels like I have been sunburned. Where is Lyddy when I need her?!?!? Yota, Heather, Kim? I am going to call my PS tomorrow and even send them a picture (since they are an hour and a half away) if they need me too. I will keep you all updated.

I had several years between so this wasn't an issue for me. IMHO, I feel it takes at LEAST 6 months for things to settle like they're going to...of course they fall more over time due to gravity, and your skin would stretch more to accomidate the swelling that pregnancy often leads to. Everyone's body is different though...handles healing diff AND pregnancy diff, kwim? ETA(because I didn't finish all of my post...blame it on lack of sleep) - I *personally* would wait if you can stand it. You don't know if you are going to grow then get smaller after the baby...or if you'll be substantially bigger naturally becuase of the pregnancy...or if you'll need a lift because of sagginess. All these things could mean different approaches to, and different outcomes of surgery.
I know that Summer was talking about TTC within the next year...what did the DR tell you?

There you go...my DR said that most women need "tune-ups" after time also(or want them for whatever reasons). ALSO, I can attest that they look more natural now than they did before(although I'm still PG)...they aren't so *round* and up there...though that never really bothered me before...Hell I got something I never had before, ppl were going to know they weren't really anyways, lol.:p But they do have more of a slope now, if you kwim.

His name is Dr. Cummings (you HAVE to have seen his billboard in Wilmington. It used to be, not sure if it still is, over at Wooster and Dawson, with the really skinny bathingsuit girl saying "Do you want to look THIS good?" He is in Kinston. Not far from Wilmington and WONDERFUL! I would recommend him to anyone!:D:D

Hello everyone ...
I am Bowwie's Baby on WC. I found clevercouples dot com through KIMandGINO's old WC journal!
Anyway ... I didn't even know WC had a thread for this. But I am so glad that I found it here!!! I have a million questions if anyone can tolerate them? They are questions that both me and a friend have had ...
I definitely want to get implants (and FH is actually very supportive of it). I am only a 36A right now (actually, one breast is not even a full A), which is so ... I don't know how to say it. Doesn't make me feel womanly, and I can't properly fill out the cute dresses and all of that. Very annoying. Anyway ... I really only want to be get up to a full B cup probably ... or maybe between a B and C.
So, my questions are ... do your breasts become desensitized? Or do your nipples become desensitized? You know, do you still become - how should I say - aroused when your DH touches them?
Also, what was the healing process? Did you hurt for a really long time? Were you bruised for a really long time?
My other question was already answered in this thread - - if pregnancy effects implants. So, thank you for that one!
Talk to you all soon, I hope!

Hello everyone ...Hey Honey!! I made answers in bold...
I am Bowwie's Baby on WC. I found clevercouples dot com through KIMandGINO's old WC journal! TY, I'll be glad to take credit for a new recruit. ;)

So, my questions are ... do your breasts become desensitized? Or do your nipples become desensitized? You know, do you still become - how should I say - aroused when your DH touches them? I have had no problems with this at all. I was pretty sensitive before & just as sensitive (if not more) after...BUT all women are different. If your procedure goes through the nipple, you stand more of a chance to lost sensitivity because there are nerves there that can be damaged when the incision is made. Everyone's body reacts to implants differently.
Also, what was the healing process? Did you hurt for a really long time? Were you bruised for a really long time? The first few days (for me) were rough...After about a week, most ALL the pain was gone & basically I just felt a little stiff. I felt up to doing most anything that I could do before(with the exception of lifting heavy objects or anything overly athletic/strenuous)....I personally never bruised. But again, everyone is different...something that I think is painful, you may think is a breeze & vice versa.
My other question was already answered in this thread - - if pregnancy effects implants. So, thank you for that one!

I agree with Kim,. If you go through the areola, you have a chance. I was not very sensitive before and now, I am more than I was. I am a crease girl and Kim if she didn't mention it is a underarm incision. My PS told me not to expect feeling on my incision.
Also, what was the healing process? Did you hurt for a really long time? Were you bruised for a really long time?
I am here, less than 2 weeks after. I was typing on the computer the night of and have had no problem. I have had no bruising except (read above post) a spot the size of a dime came up a week after surgery. Other than that, I am good to go. Up and walking the night of and driving 2 days later.
My other question was already answered in this thread - - if pregnancy effects implants. So, thank you for that one! No problem!

Here is my Boobie Eve, as I like to call it, post.
6/13/05:
Well girls,
Here I am on Boobie Eve and waiting on my mom to get here. All day, I have been reflecting upon my life with small bbs. I thought I would take a minute to share.
I look down and think, how will my shirt look tomorrow? Will this look better? I am really noticing other girls' bbs around me. I am, in a way, facinated by them and how my life will change. I don't care about the attention I will get because I know *I* am not any different but I will feel better about myself and will have more confidence. I am not doing it for anyone else, only for myself and the benefits I will feel inside. Am I ready to deal with all the looks I may get? No. I don't care about that. I will deal with it when it comes.
I would like to tell you all one particular story I vividly remember from Middle School. All my friends were developing and wearing bras and I felt really left out. I could go to school and not think twice about wearing a bra BUT I didn't want too. So, instead, I got me a padded bra (I can remember exactly what it looked like. It was a neutral color with embroidery on it). I got accustomed to wearing it daily and would hide my front side when changing for PE. One day, I forgot 'MY BOOBS' and told the PE teacher I had forgotten my clothes that day (which I didn't) just to get out of PE. I had on a sweater type thing and didn't want to change into a T-shirt and reveal nothing.
I can also remember being called 'Turkey' for so long in Middle school. It soon faded and I was still dumbfounded as to why I got this nickname. It was because I was *stuffed* like a turkey. Yup, try dealing with that in middle school.
All along, I have never felt porportioned. I have big hips and wider shoulders and somehow look like something is missing without my bbs. I am hoping this experience will boost my confidence and the way I carry myself.
So, here on my BB Eve, I am finally at peace with my current bbs and ready to bid them goodbye and move on to my new chapter. I can't wait to see what my 'new' life holds for me. Goodbye small bbs, hello confidence!!

Here is my after post. Surgery was 6/14/05 at 9am:
This was posted on 6/15/05 in the morning:
Well hello girls! I am proud to say my typing skills are back to normal (and as fast too! )! I feel soo good, just pressure on my chest.
I will do a little recap. My appointment was at 8:30 and we got there a little early and they took us right back to get my BP and heart rate and give me a little more information. I was then taken to my room where my mom had a recliner and a TV to watch while I was gone. She said it seemed like no time (I think my surgery took around 35-40 mins) and then I was back. I don't remember anything about my surgery. I still had on my glasses and I remember just saying "Can you take my glasses back to my mom?"
WHen I got back into the room, my mom said I was flipping like a fish out of water and trying to turn over. It scared her a bit to see me like that and she got sick. Right away, they told me to open my eyes and try to sit up. They got me up, told my mom to get the car, asked me how I felt and I was GONE! Literally 7 minutes after I came back.
The ride home was okay. I didn't want anything to eat, I couldn't drink my Ensure Plus. I did eat some ice cubes and did my arm exersizes. As soon as I got home, I still felt a little sick but didn't get sick! I took my first shower of the day and then it was too the couch I went.
I didn't want to eat (I tried to eat soup and then crackers) but I did drink almost an entire Ensure Plus and took my pain killers. I take them just about every 4 hours or so. I can take up to 2 but I have just been taking 1 so I am not knocked out the entire time.
I slept most of yesterday and around 8pm, I think the anestesia finally wore off. I was wide awake, walking around and by this time had taken 4-5 showers. I felt so much better. 2 of my friends came over to see me and I had started eating Triscuts. That is the only thing I have had so far. I am going to try to eat something else today.
So, there is my story. I feel wonderful and am so glad I got this done. I decided to go with a full D so we will see how I look. I have no bruising and I look like the hulk with my implants up high. I am getting ready to get in the shower and wash my hair. My friend is coming over to sit with me while I do this just in case I have any problems. Hubby stayed with me until 8am this morning just to make sure I was okay. I slept really good last night and only woke up once and was wide awake. It was time for my medicine again so I took that and went right back to sleep.
Thank you all for the well wishes. I also want to thank Noelle for coming and updating everyone! Thanks again for all the support and I will update regularly with my feelings!

Thank you for that Summer!
I am "in it" for similar reasons. I'm not doing it for anyone else, and I'm DEFINITELY not doing it for attention!!! I just do not have very much self-confidence and do not carry myself well. Always want to buy cute shirts and dresses but never look right in them. I'm sure that I want to do it, but afraid of the "looks" I might get from people that know me pre-implants. If that makes sense.
Thanks again for posting that. Very interesting! Do you know what the difference is between the armpit incision and the crease?
Camdynlyn
06-26-2005, 05:35 PM
My incision is under my bb. It is about an inch or less. The armpit is a slit under the arm. My doctor didn't recommend doing it that way because there are a TON of nerves that go through there and you have to be really careful. Also, what kept me away from the armpit is mine are ugly to begin with (razor burn bad) and I didn't want anything else that might draw attention to it. They gave me ScarGuard which is to help with the scar. I still have my steri strips on and they will fall off on their own (probably this week).

Hey girls. I am back with my Week 3 post.
I am feeling pretty good. With the 4th of July this weekend, I plan to join the parents on the lake. I am excited because this is my first time in a bathing suit and on 'display' for my family. Dad nor brother have seen me. I am excited. My mom broke the news to my brother (16) this week so he found out from us and not his friends/hear say. The news has already traveled to Hubby's hometown which is 30 miles away. Only 4 people from home new (not including my parents). I am not ashamed and not trying to hide it (I mean, it is obvious! ;) ) but I didn't think news would carry that fast. I guess that is what I get for living in such a small town and knowing everyone in it. Hubby's town is even smaller, though. :(
Enjoy!

06-28-2005, 07:31 PM
Wow, thanks to Summer for starting this thread. Its weird, I have always been dissatisfied with the size of my bust, but for some reason never even thought of surgery as an option. But seeing and reading the experiences of those who have done the procedure, I feel maybe there may be a new option for me. Okay, so here is my story:
I am 23 yrs old. I have always been small chested, and I mean small, I don't even fill out a B cup. I am also blessed (or cursed) with wider hips, so as I get older, and I fill out everywhere else, I am beginning to look very bottom heavy ( larger rear, wider hips, NO BOOBS!!). This bottom heaviness is accually a trait from my father's side of the fam, and I have seen how bad it can get :( The only thing that has given me pause, is that my mother has Very large breasts ( she wears a 42DD) and has had them for years. She wants me to hold off and wait, because she says mine will get bigger after pregnancy (She was a 38C before pg). My only gripe is that I am NOWHERE near a C cup, I am very small, and I have a hard time believing that I will jump from a very low 34B to a sexy full 34D after I have kids. So I don't know what to do. I have always felt insecure about my bust size. I feel to this day that it is the reason that so many people still mistake me for a 15 year old (and even that is hard to believe with all the hormones in food now even 15 yr olds have bigger boobs than I do). I feel that it has even effected my relationship with my husband, to the point that I have never felt sexy, or that I looked like a "real woman".
Geez I am sooo sorry for that halfway of topic speel. Back on track now. I will have to follow up in here often to help me make my decision. Thanks ladies!

bunny: You aren't missing a lot! haha :) I did call my doctor and I talked to one of the girls up front. She asked if I had any drainage and some other questions and is having the nurse call me back. See update below.
Susan: I forgot to reply to you before, sorry. You can PM me if you need to.
***
So my 'bruise' is looking better. Infact, it is almost gone. I did call and waiting on the nurse to call back. I think I overexerted myself. It is hard not to move my arms in the 'butterfly' motion and other things. It is especially hard when I am sleeping and I sit up and roll over to not put my arms behind me. That probably has a ton to do with it.
Also, my bandages are almost all the way off. I started cutting the excess pieces that were hanging and bothering me (of the tape stuff) and that helped. Now, the only part that is still covered is my actual incision. I am still taking my 2000 IU of Vitamin E and I can tell you, it works wonders. My bbs already feel 'bouncy and real.' You can squeeze them and they are softer and move like real bbs. This excites me to no end.
I also wanted to say that the bathing suit above does not 'push' them like that. That is still how they are looking. They are slowly falling and now aren't so 'tight' up there. I take weekly pictures to see my progress and they still look the same other than the tightness.
I will let everyone know what the nurse says.

This is a really interesting thread. I didn't know there was one like it over there.
I'm also interested in a breast lift (clinical term Mastopexy) or small implants after I'm finished having kids (just to maintain perkiness), so I'll be lurking here.

Oh, I almost forgot that my friend had a question. It's a funny one, so hold on to your seats. :)
She wants to know what happens if she gets implants and then she doesn't like them. She wants to know if they can be totally taken out, and what will your skin/chest look like if they are taken back out.
Thanks for any info that I can pass on!

Nicole, Bunnyboo, Shamena and hockey: Thanks! :D
Rippy: My suggestion, if your friend isn't sure if she would like them or not, is to do research and NOT get them if there is a possiblity she wouldn't like them. It isn't worth the money or the risk. I am not sure how they look after taken out but DO NOT do it if there are doubts!
By the way: There are ads on this page for Implant doctors... funny! hehe:D

Update:
I am doing good. The nerves are not hurting near as much and that makes them feel better. They are dropping well. I can already tell even though they are still high, they look better than last weeks. I am 3w1d post op and doing great. I feel wonderful. I wanted to post a pic of my scar thus far. Not too bad, if I say so myself.

Today is my 4 week mark (a whole month). It really doesn't seem that long ago. My left is falling nicely while my right (filled 20ccs more) is still high. My left top is soft and the bottom and sides are filling out and I love the look.
I love being able to wear tiny tanks and not being self concious about it. It is a great feeling.
A friend is at my doctor today for her consultation. I can't wait to see what she says. We are having supper tonight. I will try to have hubby take an update picture for everyone! :D I know you are all on pins and needles waiting!;)

I haven't posted here in SO long. I am doing good. I think I am 10 weeks post op and doing wonderfuly. My right bb (the one filled with more) still needs to drop a tad but other than that, they look awesome and SO natural. They jiggle and are not in my throat anymore. Maybe I will post another bra pic, soon. All in all, I am over the moon. I am so happy with my decision. I go back after Christmas (I wanna say Dec 28) for my 6 month pic and I get my befores and afters.

AHHHH.... Boobies are on my mind like crazy! I definitely have boobie implant envy. I also am barely a B cup and really want to go to a full C. DH is not too crazy about the idea and I am trying to talk him into it. He keeps trying to tell me to wait until after we have kids and then get a lift. Wahh :o I don't want a lift... I want bigger boobies!!! I have done a little research on the internet but haven't done much.. Do you have any tips on what to look for in a dr or what to run from? My best friend went to Oklahoma for bargain basement boobies and boy, do they look like it!! :p

I would suggest to search sites for a doctor that is board certified and look for recommendations. Call them up (any respectable doc will have them) and ask for patients who are willing to talk to you about their experiences. I would say to not 'bargain' shop... this is something that is put inside your body and will cause you more harm later in life if it isn't done correctly.
I think there are some sites posted in this forum that are awesome... implantforum.com possibly.

I also had a breast augmentation done in April of 2003. I went from a small 34b - 36dd. Yes, I went huge, but I am now porportionate. I'm 5'9 and have 'child bearin' hips' and now I have the boobage to match. I now have an hour glass figure I wanted. I do plan on bf'ing my children and have every confidence that I will be able to. The pain, actually isn't as bad as I expected it to be. I had a large size difference (went from a b cup to a dd cup) and the worst pain was the stretching. I was on pain meds + muscle relaxers for about a week post op and then I was fine. There was the nerve re-growth shooting pains that went on for a few months afterwards, but that was it.... The biggest part of the recovery that suprised me was not being able to use my arms for about a week post op, but then again I did have them placed under the muscle...
Rippling is where the implant isn't fully filled and the shell develops ripples. In some cases of 'thin skinned' people, you can see the ripples.

Wow, I can't believe I never found this thread before. I'm 25 and between a 36A-B, and have been dying for implants for a while. My FH is supportive, and I think I've finally dug up enough courage to have them done sometime this year. It's good to see other ladies who have had them done and are happy with them! It makes me feel a little less vain for wanting them so badly myself.

Maybe the stretching won't be soo bad for me because I went from a B to a D when I was nursing DS. But I am such a wuss when it comes to pain. I plan on going under the muscle from what I have read so far and I read that it is more painful.
So if I think I have thin skin I should have them filled full or overfilled? Is there any disadvantage to having them overfilled?
Thanks for the info.
MurphysLaw
01-06-2006, 09:18 PM
As far as filling/overfilling....most all DRs overfill a *little* but he/she will probably determine how much over to go, kwim? Under the muscle is more painful not due to stretching of the skin, but the spreading/seperating of the muscle tissue. HOWEVER, the pain meds they give you should help you handle the first few days just fine. The second day was truly the worst for me. The day of, I was so out of it I don't remember much besides sleeping. The second day, it felt like there was an elephant sitting on my chest. ALSO, make sure someone is around to help you with your meds. If you overlap them(take them about 15-30 min earlier than you should) then they will never completely wear off, thus not bringing you to the brink of REAL pain for the first few days. ;) Hope this helps some!!

I also forgot to add...
Rippling is also cause by the bag stretching out. If the bag is filled properly, and then it stretches it will also ripple. Imagine a water balloon. Then imagine squeezing all the water to one side, eventually(over time of course) that side will be stretched, the same amount of water is still in the bag, so parts of the bag are kind of trying to shrink back down to the water, but it's not enough so there are ripples/waves in the bag. I hope that makes sense, it's how one DR explained it to me where I could understand it. One way this can happen is if you constantly sleep on your stomach or your side.
GeekGirl
01-07-2006, 01:13 AM
Uh oh. Does this mean that side and stomach sleepers shouldn't buy boobs? This would be bad news for me. :(
MurphysLaw
01-07-2006, 01:41 AM
No, not at all! You just have to adjust a little. First of all, when you get them done, you have to sleep on your back for a while. One, they need to heal. Two, it's uncomfortable for them to feel much pressure (if ANY) so it's really not comfortable enough to sleep any other way than on your back. I am a side/stomach sleeper. I didn't sleep on my back long enough and I have ripples because of it...on the inside of my right, and the outside of my left breast. I used to sleep on my right side/kinda on my stomach. They are not noticeable unless I move just the right way, and of course no one sees it but me and DH. But I still know it's there. :o It's just something to know and think about. No one told me that before I got mine done, only after I already had them and already gotten the ripples. To be honest with you, I never really got used to sleeping on my stomach like I used to, now it's only sort of on my stomach, the BBs are too much in the way. At first that is REALLY akward!

Let's see. I thought the pain of getting my wisdom teeth out was much more painful!! :o
I had a different doctor though. I wasn't wrapped in anything and my doctor uses the 'shower approach.' That's where you take as many showers (hot) that day and do arm exercises like taking turns with your arms touching the thing that shoots out water and things like that. I took about 8 showers (not washing the hair) that day and was up that night answering the door and off my meds (other than Tylenol PM to help me sleep) after about 4 days. I couldn't do any sports/activities for 4 weeks.
I had my implant behind the muscle. My doctor also overfilled. I went from a very small 34B to a 34DD(E)/DDD(F). I love them. Mine look so natural and do not have the implant look. I think they are perfect. I did develop stretch marks about 4 months after surgery (my surgery was June 05). They are purplish but not really really bad.
I am a stomach/side sleper. I found sleeping on the couch (Hubby made me a little 'nook' where we took the pillows off the back of the couch and I had a pillow on each side of me) helped me stay on my back. I eventually worked my way to the side with a pillow propped under me. I still sleep on my stomach (don't tell my chiropractor) now.
I had such good results, I took a friend to have her's done exactly a month after mine. That night, she stayed with me and we went to the movies. She had a good experience, too and saw how well the shower thing worked.
ETA: WOW, 2 Summers and an Autumn. Who woulda thought?

Sometimes that's true. A good example is Tori Spelling. She has too much of a gap in between her breasts and that's one sign of implants.
MurphysLaw
01-07-2006, 06:25 PM
This is something that a DR should take into consideration when suggesting the size of implant to put in. My DR explained to me that a bigger bag will fill you out more from left to right, and how much you fill/overfill will determine how far out they are. If you go with a bag that's too small and overfill, you end up with ball shaped boobs, which usually have a valley in between, that stick out off your chest like crazy. The bags are not round. They are circular but flat, not spherical...think like a whoopee cushion(ok funny analogy but still). So the larger you go, the larger the diameter of the whoopee cushion, the larger the coverage area on your chest, kwim? If you go too small, you get the valley effect. If you go too large, you get cleavage that touches, or worse, you can she the outsides of you breasts from BEHIND! At any rate, a good DR should be able to gauge what size is best for you and speak with you about options at your consultation(s).

Like Diva explained, in 'bad boob jobs' (IMO of course) there is a 'valley' between boobs. Tori Spelling's breasts are nasty! I have no idea why she hasn't had those fixed, especially with all of her money. One of my requests when I had mine done was to get as much cleavage as possible. I have awesome cleavage now (without a bra my bb's are 1 finger apart) so that's not ALWAYS the case.

how often do you need tune ups? I was under the impression that the implants, unless they rupture or you develop capsular contractures, should last up to 15 years or so...
Can anyone tell me the average cost for implants and "tune ups"?
TIA
PinkMartini
04-26-2006, 03:27 PM
Well my PS told me that I'd be fine with my implants unless something happened (I.E. they ruptured, ect) or I wanted to replace them (I.E. go bigger or smaller). A co-worker has had her implants (silicone) for 18 years now and she's still going strong.
Since I had my implants put in 3 years ago, my PS's fee has risen $1500. I'm sure the cost will just continue to rise..
Camdynlyn

I wanted to come in today because it's my One Year Anniversary!! :D Here's what I posted in my journal:
At this exact time last year, I was in recovery and being instructed to 'take as many showers as possible.' I was up walking around that night, answering the door for visitors and relaxing.
I went back (waaay back in my WC journal) to find my letter I wrote on my Boobie Eve. Here it is:
Well girls,
Here I am on Boobie Eve and waiting on my mom to get here.
Goodbye small bbs, hello confidence!
It's amazing how awesome I feel now and how my confidence has been boosted. I went from a 34A/B to a 34DD/DDD. I'm currently about a 36DDD because of the pregnancy. I do not feel I look outrageous but I'm a good size for my body.
I'm LOVING life!

This is my first post afterwards on 6/15/05 at 7am:

I decided to get a BA done knowing I would TTC within the year. Sure enough, got them in June, pregnant in December. I've had no problems. My doc did recommend a 6 month grace period to allow your body to 'heal' but has said he has patients pregnant within the month of doing them (and some that find out shortly after surgery they are pregnant).
I think it's given me a more natural look (something my doctor strives for anyway). I'm not saggy but I'm not popping out everywhere, either.

Can you feel the implant? My mom got the surgery done 20 years ago, with silicone and has had no problems. I know we will be TTC within a couple of years, I wouldn't mind waiting for the pregnancy to have bigger boobs, but they won't be permanent and I have heard so many stories of women's breasts actually shrinking after breastfeeding. I know, I think I am driving myself crazy with all of this. I just don't want people to tell that they are not real, I don't really want to be able to feel them.
MrsD108, thank you for the website, it is great! It answers a lot of my questions.

TIA268, Did you join the forum?
This is going to sound so bad but I felt my friend's chest up and I could not tell the difference. Her boobs are beautiful and look very natural. She went with salines and under the muscle so I think that is why they feel so natural because her breast tissue is what you feel not the implant. I am really small so there is not alot of breast tissue so I am guessing that I would be able to feel any implant in me.

Just a quick question to you ladies. My mom just had implants done last Friday. She had her second post-op appt today and the dr said everything is looking great. Yes, it is normal and I experienced it sometimes too. The skin stretching can cause this. Also she might feel shooting pains once in awhile and that's normal too.

Feeling them: No, I cannot feel mine and if I tell someone I have implants, they look at me like I have 2 heads because they are that natural looking. They are under the muscle and saline, if that matters. A friend of mine had her's done (she about a size 00 and weighs MAYBE 100 pounds). I took her exactly a month after I had mine. She got D's. I cropped a picture for you to see. She's tiny and she definitely has big boobs now but not 'oh my god, she has implants' looking, IMO. She just looks like she has big boobs! She started with barely As.

Burning: Yup, it's normal. Mine was worst when I was in the shower. My doc called them 'ghost' pains because I couldn't tell where they stemmed from but he said it's caused by all the nerves under your arms and in your boobs and from them stretching. Totally normal.

I also had the burning, from nerve regeneration, for about 3-4 months sporadically (sp?).
I got large implants (700cc's) which brought me to a 34DDD pre-pregnancy. I'm a tall girl (5'10) and now have the breasts to match my hips... I got saline unders as well and honestly, after 3 years, my implants are SO soft, soft as regular breast tissue. I can't tell the difference anymore :)
Nor are my breasts obscenly large. They match my body now

TIA, and anyone else in the Los Angeles area, I have a great recommendation for a plastic surgeon. Her name is Dr. Connie Joy, and she's the plastic surgeon at PlastiCare surgery center in Long Beach. I work for her, and she is WONDERFUL. She's been in business for over 20 years, and I work for her as her surgical tech, so I assist her during the cases.
If anyone is interested, please call 562-427-8944 or visit www.plasticare.com.

Hokiegirl: Welcome to NC!! :) You should get involved in our GTGs! We usually are together pretty often. I had consultations set up for 3 doctors (including the one I went to). The appointments were about 2 months away (closest I could get) and when I got a call a week later about a cancelation (at my doc, he was #1 on my list), I took the consultation cancelation and took 2 friends with me. One being my best friend in the world, the other being a very judgmental friend who will tell it like it is and is pretty harsh about things. We made a decision that if they both felt comfortable and I did as well, they would both give me a signal when they asked if I would like to schedule another appointment. We were all LOVING him so I made an appointment and had surgery almost 2 weeks later! :) PM me if you want his name.

Funny how this thread has come back up. I have been discussing with DH and we have decided that I will wait for any augmentation until after we have children. Then I can get the full body tune up. My only concern is, isn't it better to get surgery like this when you are younger and you skin more elastic and likely to bounce back? Would it be better to get them at 25 or 30 years of age, or does it not matter at all? If so, I don't think DH would be averse to me getting them a year or so before we TTC.

I don't know that age is necessarily a factor, the only thing that may change after having kids is you may need a lift and BA at the same time. It depends on the individual. DH and I are going to be TTC prolly within a year, but I would like to have them now.
PinkMartini
07-05-2006, 02:29 PM
I got them done 3 years ago with the intention of starting a family soon after. I was 21 when I had it done and although I don't know about the 'age factor' I do know that I've heard of plenty of 'older women' (40's and 50's) who've gotten it done without any problems.
I do know that I'll need a lift after we finish having children, due to the fact that I plan on breastfeeding. And I might as well have any other work done at the same time :)

Bumping this up to join the club!!! I think I may have hopped off the fence and landed squarely in the "bout damn time that I started seriously planning for this" camp!

I'm having mine done Thursday! Needless to say, I am very excited. :D
Cricket4 I don't have resources in Houston but I can tell you how I finally choose a doctor. First, I did lots of google searches for Dr.'s in my area (Seattle).
Then I asked friends and friends of friends for their recommendations. I also called my gyno office and got recommendations from them. Finally, there is a magazine called "Seattle Magazine" that lists the 'best' doctors in the area as voted on by their peers. I don't know if Houston has one or not but I found that very helpful as well.
Then, I made a TON of appts. I compiled a list of questions and I printed it out each time I saw someone and filled it out with their specific answers. Eventually I found a Dr. that just felt 'right' to me - even from the second I walked into the office I absolutely felt at ease.
I highly suggest meeting with as many dr's as you can. Good luck!

Not only look for board certified doctors but you want to pick one you feel comfortable with who ALSO is very highly recommended and trained. It is an all or nothing package to me. I'd never go with someone I didn't like or with someone I liked without the creditials.

I'm back...and with boobs! I had my surgery on Thursday and today is Sunday. I must say I am feeling quite a bit better. It also helps to have a very helpful DH and a mom and dad that live a few blocks from us.
I'm not sure what my new size is yet....I was definitely an "A" prior and I'm pretty sure I'm a "C" now. I have a very small frame and I'm a really modest person so I think the size will be perfect for what I was looking for. I know if I ever want to get a fuller look I can always use a Wonderbra!
Too funny, the FDA lifted the ban on silicone implants the DAY after my surgery. Go figure!! I'm not sure if I would have gotten them though....they look and feel more nature however if one ever got a leak you may not know right away as they tend to leak out slowly. Hmm....maybe someday when I need to have them replaced (10 - 15 years) I will go with the silicone. But for now, I am definitely happy!!!

I'm interested in breast implants. I look, honest to God, like a pre pubescent little girl, and I've been considering them for a while. I'm not talking about porn star boobs, just maybe a full C cup...? If you don't mind sharing, does anyone here have them? Or maybe can offer some advice?

Well here I am coming up (April 7th) on my 4 year boobiversary :D
I swear, I can't believe I've had them this long. And they worked perfectly for breastfeeding my DS for 7 weeks. I didn't they could get any more 'natural' feeling but they did... They're still nice & perky even after pregnancy and bf'ing. I do think I'll need a redo after I get done having my kids, and hopefully I'll be eligible for silcone...

What's the typical recovery like? How much pain? When did you resume normal activities? I don't want a large implant. I am in between anA and a B now and I would like to be a large B. Did you have to buy all new shirts?

Yay Alioop! Welcome to the club :p
I have a lot of breast cancer on both sides of my family and coincidentally, the weekend I had my BA done, my grandma had a masectomy on one side from breast cancer :( I got them under the muscle though, as overs are supposed to make it harder to detect cancer...
I didn't have very much pain at all, I was drugged up for a good week. You can't use your arms at all post op, my DH had to help me get dressed/pull up my pants after using the bathroom :o I didn't work at the time, but was 'up & about' probably a week and a half post op. You're definitely sore for awhile and the nerve regen goes on for quite awhile afterwards... 4 - 5 months post op I was still feeling the tingling/burning of the nerve re-growth. I definitely had to buy new shirts, I had a dramatic change. If you're not going that much larger than what you are now, you'll probably be fine...
Don't forget though, the #1 complaint from women who've had BA's is they wish they would've gone larger...

Thanks Pink! (And congrats on your second pg...I just finished reading your new journal ;). I just want to feel normal...I don't want BIG boobs. I think my chest is very oddly shaped, especially after nursing DS for 14 months. There is very little breast tissue on the top part of the breast, and then more on the bottom. My boobs are small enough that they really do't even move. I feel like I really only have nipples. I am extremely self concious, never wear anything except a padded bra, and don't even like my DH touching them. I just want to look normal, and feel like a woman. Does this make sense? Did you get to try out sizes?
PinkMartini
03-20-2007, 06:45 PM
Thanks ;)
Yea, it definitely makes sense. I was the exact same way pre-op. I couldn't stand to wear tank tops/ect. If I wasn't so tall/wide hipped I would've gone a lot smaller, as I wasn't looking for 'stripper boobs' (and honestly they don't look like that at all, they are very natural looking - most people who know I've had a BA wouldn't have guessed)...
I did get to try out different sizes. I went to my PS because he 'specialized' in larger BA's and I knew I wanted to be proportionate, a C cup wasn't going to do it for me, KWIM? IIRC, I had 2 appts pre-op and both times I tried out different sizes. I brought an extra shirt with me to see what they'd be like...

After having 2 kids 12 months apart my used to be fantastic breasts now look awful. I have had 3 different doc consultations and have gone back and forth on whether or not I want to do this. After many many months of researching and thinking, I have decided to do it. I am getting a vertical lift and small implants. I want to stay the same bra size that I am now (C cup) but just not have flat breasts. :)
Anyhoo, I am trying to figure the best time to book my surgery date as I have a 14 month old and a 27 month old, and I have some trips coming up in the summer. So my quetions are all about healing time. How many days do you were you literally laying down, couldn't do anything? When were you up and about, leaving the house? How long until you could drive? And most important for me, how long until you could care for your kid (s) by yourself? I have help, but having people at my house watching my kids while I am here drives me crazy. Just wondering how long it will take me to get back into our routine around here. Thanks!

girlygirl_7, honestly I was on my back for about 3 days total before I got up & got going. I wasn't driving until about a week and a half post op. I was on pain killers for a full week though, (and that's not normal. I was cautious because of all the horror stories I had heard about the pain, I didn't want to take a chance) I think most people are on OTC pain meds within a few days... I didn't have any children at the time (4 years ago) so no help there

Congrats to both of you!!! Getting boobs was the best thing I've ever done (just ask DH ;) ) Seriously, they look so much more natural than I thought possible.
Regarding the pain....it wasn't bad for me at all. I didn't drive for like 10 days only because my Dr. didn't want me too. But, a girl I work with saw mine and went and had hers done by my Dr. as well...she had them done on a Thursday and came back to the office Monday! She lives close to the office so it wasn't a long drive for her. In fact, I called her the day after her surgery and her husband said "yeah, we went out for Mexican food and margarita's after surgery" and I was laughing thinking he was joking. Well come to find out he was NOT joking! She felt good enough to go have dinner after her surgery. I didn't feel that great but my parents and mother-in-law were over for dinner the night I had mine done and I just sorta hung out on the couch.
All in all, it was WELL worth it. Good luck, I'm excited for you!!!!

Thank you so much for the respone girls! You made me feel much better. I'd like to think that I have a high tolerance for pain. When I was pregnant with my first I remember being so afraid for my milk to come in because everyone warned me of how awful the pain was, but I had none at all. So here's to hoping that my breasts can deal with pain better than others. ;)
My surgery is 3 weeks from today. I am having a vertical lift with small implants. I am about a 34C now, but my breasts are very flat from pregnancy and nursing. So I am doing this more for lift and shape, not size. I don't plan on being much bigger than I am now, just better looking naked in in bathing suits. The doctor said that once in surgery, he may just have to do a nipple lift, but quite possibly will have to do the veritcal line down my breast as well. But I do not need the full anchor lift, he was pretty sure about that.
At the time of my consultation back in Nov., my doctor said that I should stay with saline because of the lower risks. He said that I have a lot of breast tissue, so he didn't feel that the softer feel of the silicone would benefit me compared to the saline. I want to ask more about that to make sure, as well as to inquire about these new cohesive "gummy bear" implants that just came out. So we will see. I will be asking many questions at my pre-op appt. which is on Monday.
Today I did something that I have never done before ~ I looked through a huge stack of Playboy magazines clipping out pictures of boobs that I like. :D Doctor wants me to bring in some idea of size and shape that I like.

Oh you have NO idea how many playboy pictures I looked at 'picking' out my breasts... I'd have DH in there with me and we'd compare different sets. It got to the point that right before my surgery I was checking out women's breasts while out & about. I'd go 'Oh look at.....' to DH :o That's when I knew I was obsessed....
I have saline and they are SUPER soft. They were firm until about a year post op but then I noticed how soft they were... And after my first pregnancy, they got even MORE soft... I'm anxious to see what they feel like after this pregnancy.

Regarding the comment about "picking out boobs"....what you look like after surgery has a lot to do with your natural shape before surgery. However, that applies mostly to your cleavage and less so to the roundness of the breast.
For example, there are some girls that have really far apart boobs and you think "what a terrible boob job!" but the thing is if your boobs are naturally far apart you cannot bring them closer together with implants. Well, obviously they will be somewhat closer together but they will retain the cleavage "shape" that you start out with. For a better idea, go look at a bunch of before and after pictures and you can see how the original shape remains.
Unfortunately, my breasts were not naturally close together so I was unable to get that "perfect" cleavage I desired. However I knew that going into it so I was not disappointed with the end result. I think it's imperative that you have realistic expectations.
Also, with regard to the pain, mine were done through an incision on the lower part of my breast. I was told that is the "least intrusive" way as they are more easily able to create the pocket that the implant sits in. Since I am married (and plan to stay that way!) I wasn't as much concerned with scarring. You will likely experience more pain if you are also having a lift and they are going through the areola. Still, if you prepare for the worst pain then you will probably be pleasantly surprised. I'm very excited for your! :D

05-01-2007, 01:47 PM
Ya, I thought it was pretty funny to have me pick out boobs. I mean, I know that I can't say, "Okay, I'll take these" and then that is how I will look. :D But I think that my doctor wants a feel for what shape and size I like, and it probably also tells him what my expectations are. I looked through a book in my doctor's office yesterday also, and I found a pic that in my eyes are the perfect boobs. Then the doctor came in and examined me, and he grabbed the book and turned right to page that I had liked and he said that it was a good idea of how I would look. So I guess I was right on. Still, I know that it is just a general idea. I have a lot of breast tissue and I have good cleavage, and I am not going very big, so my doctor seems to think that my expectations are quite realistic. ;)
Had my pre-op yesterday. They took blood, went over everything, did another exam to talk about size and shape, made me sign my life away, and I paid. Everyone close to me is very worried and they are making me so nervous about going under. So the doctor made me feel much better. I am very excited. Oh! And good news ~ He also offered to lipo out my arm pit fat (which he says is fallen breast tissue) for free. He will go through my implant incision. I assume that this will make me have even more pain. I have heard that lipo is pretty painful.

I'm booked for 6/15!
Very, very nervous about the pain, and about people noticing. I know it sounds strange, but I really don't want people to KNOW. Like girlygirl, I just want them to look better unclothed. I'm pretty okay with them once the bra gets in there and gives them a nice round shape, but without the bra they are very pointy, and they don't seem to fit with my curvy body. I joke that my breasts belong to a 19 year old gymnast named Natalie with a brunette pixie cut.
So I"m not going much bigger, just going for a more round shape. But I work in a pretty public job, and I don't want everyone and their mother going "Hey, Cricket got her boobs done!"

I have considered this, but then my breasts are not that small (B) and my husband has really boosted my confiedence about my breasts :) I like the shape and they are very perky :p I have thought about after I have children. They may not be so nicely shaped or perky any more. How many of you are considering or have had BA after having children?? What changed about your breasts after child birth that made you decide to get them or want to get them?? If you have had them, are you happy with them??

My doctor had a different look on recovery and I was encouraged to shower as many times afterwards and to try to do exercises where my arms touched the shower head alternating. I wasn't allowed to move them out to the "fly" motion but up and down was encouraged. I think I showered every hour for about 6 hours after surgery with my first shower being about 2 hours after surgery. My mom had to help me get in and out and I didn't wash my hair, just did the exercises.
I was walking around that night and off medicine within 2 days. I HIGHLY recommend this method.
My boobs look natural and no one would be the wiser if I didn't tell them. I think I'll get a 'pick-me-up' after the babies because they are big and starting to get heavy and sag a little now. They are a little too real!! ;) I'm a DD/DDD and would probably like to stay a D/DD.

How many of you are considering or have had BA after having children?? What changed about your breasts after child birth that made you decide to get them or want to get them?? If you have had them, are you happy with them??
That would be me! I never in a million years thought that I would get a BA. I have always had nice breasts at a 34C. Then I had 2 kids. My youngest is 14 months old. After nursing and after stretching to a 34D+ during that time, they look pretty bad now. They are very stretched out and saggy looking. Maybe TMI, but my nipple hangs well below my breast crease. It isn't so bad in clothes or in a very uncomfortable padded push up bra. But I hate the way that they look naked or in a bikini.
So, I am doing this to change their shape back to where they used to be, not to gain huge boobs.
Does anyone have a family that is not being supportive?? I have a HUGE family, many opinionated women. I have heard them all say a million times how they would love to have a BA, or a tummy tuck, or lipo, or a nose job, or face work, etc. etc. Now that I am actually doing something, everyone is acting like I am a freak. Like I am the first woman in the world to ever do this. My mom and my sister reacted like this. I am finding it pretty annoying. So I have decided not to even tell anyone else in my family. At least not until after it is done. I am pretty tired of people telling me that this is the worst decision ever. I am really excited about it and they are such downers. :(

girlygirl, I am so sorry. My family was 100% supportive, but maybe they are scared for you and not being constructive in voicing it? What you think is what matters. I've had my nose (health reasons and comsetic reasons) and my breasts done and I'm extremely happy. Maybe after they see that you're happy they'll be more accepting. Best of luck, and though we're not your family you have a lot of support here!

I know when I had mine done if I wanted a lift as well as implants it would've been an extra $1500. I had almost no breast tissue, so no lift needed.

Hi girls! Thanks for the words about my lack of family support. Happy to report that now that it is done, my family is fine and see happy for me. I think that my family (mainly my mom, sister and husband) were just VERY worried about me going under.
My Experience
So I had my surgery 9 days ago, and I am thrilled to say that my recovery was a breeze. :D
I went in a week ago Friday at 6AM. Doc drew on me and went over what I wanted, etc. Went back with a nurse where she got me in my gown, cap and booties, weighed me, gave me a preggo test, etc. Then I walked in and climbed onto the table. That was weird! But once I was on the table, I was fine. They attached blood pressure machines to my ankles & arms, and put those EKG things on my back. The anes. gave me my IV and I didn't even feel it. She said I would be going to sleep and I did before she finished her sentance. ;)
Surgery took 3 hours. I had a lift, so my incisions are around my areola, down vertically, and on one breast (because it was more saggy) a slight anchor as well. I got saline implants, 250 ccs on each side. I woke fine, I just felt exhausted! I kept wanting to just shut my eyes and go to sleep. But I pushed myself to wake up. My hubby came in, I popped up pretty fast, so they got me dressed, had me pee, and I was out of there in 45 minutes. I had a catheter in during surgery, so peeing blurned for 2 days after. I was scared of the catheter, but it was put in and removed while I was out, so I would never have known.
I was totally bandaged and had tiny drains at the bottom of each breast. These had tubes attached to a little container and that caught blood and fluid from surgery. It wasn't gross, just slightly annoying. We came home, hubby made me a snack, and I took a 2 hour nap. I took a pain pill, but it was preventative as I felt no pain. Also, I had ZERO nausea. When I woke I was hungry again, and against my hubby's wishes, I got up and made myself a sandwich. I seriously felt awesome. No pain, no discomfort. A few hours later we went to a nice dinner alone, and then to pick up our babies from my parent's house. ;)
For the first 1.5 days, I took a pain pill every 4 hours, but again, it was preventative. After that I was tired of being on them, so I stopped and I felt zero pain. I have no pain in this entire experience. The hardest part is sleeping. I don't like sleeping on my back, so I would wake feeling very stiff each morning. That is my only complaint.
My doc has been awesome! He has seen me almost every single day since my surgery. The drains and bandages were removed on the second day, and since then, I have just got surgical strips on my incisions. That is it. My stitches are coming out in stages. I think I only have about 6 left (3 on each breast) and those come out tomorrow. All of my bruising is gone, and at a bit over a week, I feel like my incisions are looking great, and, my breasts are already looking and feeling more natural. I am taking very good care of my very expensive additions. ;) Lots of massaging and keeping the surgical strips in place. I think that I will be about a very large 34C or smaller 34D, just what I wanted. This is what I was before my kids and now I have them back!
I am THRILLED with my results! My husband, who was against this, is even trilled as well. He finally told me yesterday that they did look pretty bad since having our babies, he just would never have told me that before. ;) Good man.
Honestly, I am still floored at how easy this was. The most "discomfort" that I felt I can compare to feeling like I hadn't nursed for a few hours and needed some relief. That is it. I really think that drains help the recovery a lot! I had my surgery on a Friday, and on Monday I was home alone with my 1 year old and 2 year old (12 months apart) all day and I had no issues. I can lift and carry them both fine now, and I was driving by day 2, once I stopped the meds. I have had no restrictions with my arm movements at any point, not even on the day of.
Thank you so much for all of the advice! If any of you are considering this or have a surgery scheduled, I would be happy to answer any question.
i am due with a second child any day now and am considering a lift too.....any idea how much $$$ is involved?
My lift and BA w/ saline was $7900. If you choose silicone, it is about $1000-$1200 more. This was in Los Angeles county.

I have been considering BA for some time now. I checked out some before and after pictures on a BA forum and I was curious about the scars. Some of the ladies didn't have any scars but a lot of them had a large vertical scar that went from the nipple downward. Is this because they had a lift as well as implants? OVer time do the scars fade?
TIA

From the hundreds of after BA pics I've seen, yes. The vertical scars are from lifts.
I got my implants put in under the breasts, in the crease area. I wanted to BF so I didn't chance doing the nipple incision. And the belly button/arm pit incision was more $$$. I'm VERY fair skinned and my scars were almost completely faded by around a year post op. And you can't see them at all unless you lift up my breasts.

Yes, those scars are from a vertical lift. There are different stages of a lift. the first is a nipple lift. The incision is around the areola (there is where they put the implant in as well). They pull up from the inside. This is for someone who needs a pretty minor lift. The scars are barley noticeable because they go around the line of your areola.
The next step is the same areola incision, with also a vertical cut down. The 3rd step is both of the above, with also a horizontal cut at the crease as well. This is also called an anchor lift cause it looks sort of like an anchor.
I had the stage 2 kind of lift, so my incisions go around my areolas and down vertically. My doctor tells me that I will heal very well. In fact, at just over weeks out, I am surprised at how well they are healing. My best friend had the same operation a few years ago, and her scars are not even visible. From what my doctor said, women with light skin are less visible scaring. I am pretty white, so he thinks that mine will go away.

Here ya go. I don't have a good before cause my breasts really stayed the same size in clothing. Just very saggy before so I had to wear a massive push up bra. I can't believe I am putting this here. ;) I will remove it in a day or so, so enjoy. ;) I was a very saggy 34C before, and now I am a very perky 34C / Small D. I had a vertical lift, through the nipple, and I have saline implants, 250 CCs:
After at about 1 week post op. This top has no padding and no wires.

Quick question. What meds do you need to manage your pain? How soon after your BA were you allowed to bathe and go swimming?
For my BA / Lift, I took percocet every 3-4 hours for the first 24 hours. I never felt any true pain, it was just preventative cause I was scared. Then I stopped taking it late on day 2 because I was just sick of feeling drugged up. I took 2 advil, again, preventative. After that I never needed anything. I was able to shower on day 2 after I got my bandages and drains off. I am just over 2 weeks post op and I called a few days ago to inquire about swimming. They told me that I am fine to get into a pool an sit, but that I can't do actual swimming (like a breast stroke or anything) until 4 weeks. I was just planning on sitting anyway. ;)
Good luck!

Ali,
The doctor I used to work for usually gave out Darvocet or Percocet for pain, along with a muscle relaxant. For bathing, they typically want you to wait until the drains and dressings come off, which can be anywhere from a couple of days to a week. Swimming will probably have to wait for a few weeks beyond that because they won't want you doing those arm extensions so soon after your surgery.

Hi, I have a couple of questions for you gals who have had BA/lifts. I really don't want to be a larger size...just a lift. For so long now I've been wondering if there will ever be a lift procedure that will not intale(sp?) implants (I have no idea how that would work, but it's just wishful thinking on my part). I'm so scared of having implants in my body. My first question is: Do you feel weird or always think about that you have two bags of saline in your chest.Secondly: did you gals do this because YOU wanted it or did you do it because you thought your significant other would want it. If these are too personel of questions, I understand. I've contemplated a lift for a while now and wondered what others have to say about these questions that have had it done. Thanks :)

You can get a lift without implants. Just tell the doctor that you are interested in a mastopexy.

Renee,
You can get a lift without implants. Just tell the doctor that you are interested in a mastopexy. Ok, now I feel dumb that I didn't know this. I have never heard of this, is it something new? I thought for sure there was another thread somewhere on CC about lifts and I had asked if implants were a must for just a lift. All of the women said you HAD to have implants for a lift (maybe it was a bad dream or something). stevesbabygirl, do you (or anyone else) know anything about mastopexy?
stevesbabygirl
06-05-2007, 01:11 AM
Renee,
No need to feel dumb at all! A mastopexy isn't a new type of procedure, but it's probably a lesser known one, since most women go for either an augmentation or a reduction. Mastopexies are often done in conjunction with a reduction.
What would you like to know re: a mastopexy? I used to be a surgical tech for a plastic surgeon, so I can probably answer a few questions for ya :).

I am 5'6" as well and weigh between 115 - 118. I am now a 32C or D. I think it really depends on what you're looking for. I wanted something that wasn't obvious "in your face". I don't like the attention that comes from having major cleavage but I wanted to fill out my shirts. My implants were 240cc, which is on the small side compared with what I saw on implant websites.

Thank you!!
Renee34~I pondered all of the things that you are asking for a looooong time before deciding to go ahead with my BA / Lift. First off, I did this for no one but myself. My husband is pleased with the results, but he was pretty against it and said that I looked fine how I was. It was a personal choice because I was unhappy with my breasts after being pg / breastfeeding.
I asked many people if having the implants inside them freaked them out. I am so OCD, so if it would irritate anyone, that would be me! But I am happy to report that I have had no issue with this. In fact, because I had so much existing breast tissue, I can not feel my implants at all. I actually squeeze and try to find it, and I can't. I do know people who can feel theirs, but they had less breast tissue than me to start. None of them are bothered by it though.
I really wanted my old breasts (before kids) and wished that I didn't need an implant to do that. I thought about just a lift but decided against it for the following reasons:
1. they have to remove breast tissue, so I would have lost breast mass and would have been perky, but smaller
2. with time, they would have dropped again, so I didn't want to spend all that money to have shorter results. The implant will help there.
3. people say that a lift is safer in the sense that implants make mamograms hard to read. My doc told me that it is not the implant itself that makes them hard to read, it is scar tissue. The lift causes more scar tissue than the implant, so that really doesn't make a difference.
I was quite nervous about the implants, so I chose to go with saline because after talking to my doctor, they are the "safer" option.
This is all a matter of personal choice. I suggest to think about it for a while and to see more than 1 doctor for consultations. Tell them your concerns and what results you are looking for and they will tell you if that is realistic with just a lift, etc. Good luck!

My surgery was Tuesday. I had 320 ccs, submuscular, high profile Mentor implants placed thru an inframammary incision. I also had abdominal and flank liposuction. It has been quiet painful but I am managing it well with the meds and ice packs. Can anyone tell me when the implants won't feel as hard as rocks and when they will drop?
Thanks!

I had my surgery last Friday. I was a MESS for the first few days (even begged BF to take me back to the hospital on Sunday to have them removed, because I felt so bad), but now I feel a lot better. I can tell, even though they're still high and hard, that they're going to look really natural and great on my frame.

I don't know why they would feel hard as rocks....mine never did. Mine are also high profile Mentor through an inframammary incision. Mine were never "high" either, they basically stayed where they were put. Have you talked to your doctor? My implants are only 240 cc's. Maybe the size has something to do with it.

I kept asking this question to my doctor at my first few follow ups too. He told me that it would take about 4 weeks. He was right. I would say that at 2-3 weeks they got much better and by 4 weeks they were awesome. I am at 5 weeks today and they feel really great, very soft. I have a hard time even finding the implant in there.

Ali Mine were pretty hard in the beginning but I think what I was feeling was actually my muscle. I worked out my chest pretty hard core before getting implants. After surgery my boobs were actually square and up to my collarbone, it took mine 6 months to fully drop, BUT they started looking good around 3 months post op? It just got better and better by the week. I did NOT get HP's, I have a pretty wide back so I thought they may look funny on me.

Rosa, I have been thinking about doing this for a long time and I have read a lot of different views on getting breast implants before or after children. I have read about a lot of women being unhappy with the way implants look after they have had children, but most people need a "tune up" about eight years after the first surgery any way.
Did your breasts get very large when you were pregnant? If not, I would not worry about it so much.
Ultimately, it is up to you, but there are many implant websites that have some information that might be of use to you.
I am going to try to wait until after my first child and see how my breasts are different after my pregnancy.
Sorry, I do not have any better advice. I am also curious if some women here have advice on this issue.

I had BA in November of 2001. I had it done when I was in a long term relationship with a man I did not see myself having children with. We broke up a year later, and then I met DH.
I went from 36A to post-op 36D, well now due to weight gain I am 38D. I got up to 38DD or bigger  when pregnant.
After having Abigail I tried to breastfeed for 3 weeks but did not have a lot of success. My breasts were getting huge and very uncomfortable but not much was coming out. Pumping didn't work well, even with a hospital quality pump. I had the areola incisions, so maybe that was the reason for my difficulties.
I love my big boobies :D, but it was disappointing when I was unable to successfully BF.
ETA: The size I got is perfect, I am kind of wide chested/wide hipped so it looks very natural on me. No one has ever guessed I had them done, and are very surprised when I tell them. DH in particular is very happy with them. :p I will say though, in my experience the BA was more painful then my c-section. I had them done behind the chest muscles, OUCH.

I had a BA in 6/07 and got PG two months later. I will let you know of the effects on them. Having the incision around the areola definately can cause one to not be able to BF. I had mine put in in the crease of the breast so I should have no problems (fingers crossed). Hopefully, I'll be able to report back to you in a bout 7 weeks.

Wow - thanks for the input everyone. I didn't expect to hear much since this thread seemed pretty dead at this point. My breasts did grow from about a 32B to a large 32C while PG - a pretty big difference. Then, after BFing, they have gone down to a 32A, I would say. I still wear some of my B bras, but they are probably a bit too big. I was always small-chested, but I was OK with how whey were before I had a child. I am very thin and don't have wide hips, so they seemed to fit me. But now it's like I have NOTHING, and I actually do have broad shoulders, so although I am very small, that sort of makes it look even worse. I guess I need to do some more research. If there is a good chance I would not be able to BF, then I will definitely hold off until I am don having kids. That is too big of a priority for me. I was actually hoping it could help. I have very inverted nipples, which made it tough to BF with DS (though I did it). I was hoping that the implants may fix that or they could fix it at the same time.
I would love to hear from others who have dealt with this situation.

I got implants at 21 and had my DS at 24 and my DD at 25. I BF both for a very short time. Mine are definitely different looking then they were pre-DC. They're A LOT softer (mine were put under the muscle - so they were pretty natural looking to begin with) and sag a bit now.
I definitely don't regret having them done (cuz I got 3 years of great looking breasts out of them) but as soon as I'm done having children, I'll be getting them re-done.
Oh and I had them done through the crease area and had no problems BFing at all.

I had my surgery in Sept 2004 and went from a small 34B to a 34D and I was really happy!
I had my son in June last year and when my milk came in...well I was overflowing the 36E bra that I had. With that overnight growth came dreaded stretch marks. Breastfeeding has been great..I have had absolutely no problems...it has just stretched out the skin which I am unhappy about. I definitely will be getting mine redone after a second baby.
I had high profiles under the muscle with a crease incision.

Yea, if I had gone through the nipple, I think I would've regretted it as well. That was my #1 concern with implants, that I'd be able to BF....
Sign me up for wanting implants once I'm done with children! After bfing DS, my boobs have definitely gotten smaller and I was only a 34B to begin with! :( Thank god for padded and push-up bras but it's annoying. I do have a few questions though:
1. For those of you who were a A or B cup, are you happy with the size of your implants? or do you wish you would've gone larger? Right now, I'm thinking about going to a full C cup but I'm wondering if I should just go up to a small D cup. I'm fairly tall, normal size hips but slender frame so I don't want to look overly huge. I'd also like to be able to wear the majority of my current tops.
2. How much, on average, do implants cost? 12 to 15K? What is the average recovery time? 1 week?

I was a small B cup pre-implants. I got 700cc's (huge - most people get 300-400ccs) and am very happy with my size. I'm a large D - small DD. But I have a larger ribcage (I'm 5'10) and in order to get any type of cleavage I had to go that large... Plus I wanted to 'even out' my large hips. Very satisfied with my size.
I know the #1 complaint with BA's is that women always wish they would've gone larger...
I paid $3500 almost 5 years ago. I went to a dr in Lake Tahoe, Ca. I was out of commission for about a week.

I'd also like to be able to wear the majority of my current tops.
2. How much, on average, do implants cost? 12 to 15K? What is the average recovery time? 1 week?
I was a small 34B and I had about 370CC in (if I remember correctly). It took me to a bra size of 34DD/36D but really I am more like a full C/small D. (From my experience bras fit differently on "real" breasts)
Alot of women told me to go bigger because than I would get boob envy after they settle...wrong! I did not get such envy...I liked how proportionate I looked...everyone was always surprised to find out that I was enhanced. I even asked the doctor and he told me to go bigger...I asked him point blank if he was telling me honestly or as a man...he (thankfully) answered honestly...Probably because I'm a man
I got mine done in OK City so it was much cheaper than, say, California or DC. My recovery time was about 8 weeks...I won't lie..It was painful. It hurt everytime I laughed...or when I went over bumpd in the car. Also my doctor prescribed "massage" to help the implants drop...OW! I would cry everytime I did it. I would say after week 3 things started to get better though.
I got a ton of support and information including my doctor referral from Implant Forum (www.implantforum.com)

1- I am happy with the size on me. Was a 36AA or 36A before and 36D, 38D post baby.
2- I had mine done when I lived in Indianapolis, IN, in 2001, and it cost about $3k. Yep, I was at home recovering for about a week, and I was sore for a while after that. It hurt like hell but I still think it was worth it. :)
I just found my old info and verified that I had McGhan, Smooth, Round, Under muscle, areola incision, 575cc on both sides, 36A to 36D, now 38D, date was November 16, 2001

I was a small B cup pre-implants. I got 700cc's (huge - most people get 300-400ccs) and am very happy with my size.
Holy cow, 700 cc's?!? Wow, that is huge! (NOT that there's anything wrong with that...;)) Do you have a pic? I'm thinking you must give Pam Anderson a run for her money. LOL!
(BTW, please don't take my post in a negative way, I'm genuinely curious as to how big they look.)

LoL Why does everyone say that when they hear 700ccs? :p
No, I'm not that huge, I promise. Especially not with my frame. Maybe if I were 5'0 they'd be huge... And definitely not Pam Anderson size ;) They just evened out my hips ;)
These were taken about 6 months after I had my implants done :)

Pink you look so natural! I would not have guessed you had implants! Can I ask how tall you are? My shoulders are actually a bit broader than yours, so I am thinking the same size would be dooable on my frame as well! I am a 34 small b cup right now.

Thanks BMR! That's what everyone says when they see me and find out I have implants. I had a great plastic surgeon!
I'm 5'10 and was a small b cup as well ;)

Ah, you are taller than me! I am only 5'3". Someday, I hope to have the money to get them done. My husband is completely happy and worried about the surgeon "messing them up"! Gotta love him for that! I think things may be different after I have kids though. ;) I just hope they turn out as goos as yours! I will definetly get at least a D cup.

You're right, they don't look like 700cc's!! You look great. ;)
I'm not a "typical" breast implants person; mine are part of my reconstruction following breast cancer and a double mastectomy, but they are still implants, right?
1. For those of you who were a A or B cup, are you happy with the size of your implants? or do you wish you would've gone larger? I was a B cup. We went in to the plastic surgeon's office wanting to ask for Carmen Electra's breasts, but the surgeon said he really felt strongly that the implants should be appropriate for my frame vs. looking for a specific cup size. That said, I did go up a cup size to a full C. I am 5'4". I love them. LOVE THEM. I have pretty much stopped flashing people to show them the beautiful breasts my surgeon made me, though. ;)
I am very happy that I stayed with a C. However, my mother -- also a breast implants with reconstruction following cancer patient -- feels she went too large. Hers were done in the mid 1990s, though, and I don't think her surgeon did that great of a job They are too high and there are definite ripples (IMO). Maybe someday she'll get them redone.
I have saline, moderate profile ones, btw. The surgeon said I should anticipate needing to replace them in 15 or so years.
2. How much, on average, do implants cost? 12 to 15K? What is the average recovery time? 1 week?
My insurance covered every part of my reconstruction, including the implants. My recovery was probably different from y'all, too, but it was not a difficult recovery at all. Except the drains. No one likes the drains. ;)

I would be thrilled with a full C cup. And wow, I'm surprised for some reason on how relatively inexpensive it is. For some reason, I always though implants were much more expensive.
And I agree, Pink Martini, your implants look very proportional with your frame. You look great! :)

Questions for the girls who have had implants:
Did the implants give you a confidence boost? Did you feel sexier after? I always feel sexier when my breasts are fuller in the middle of my cycle, so I think a little more would make me feel sexier. I have heard that some women did not get a confidence boost out of it though.
Also, I have a big gab between my breasts and when I lay down, they fall to the side into my arm pit. I am SO worried that implants will look horrible on my for this reason. Does anyone have advice?

They did give me a bit of a boost. Although I'm not one of those women who wear low cut shirts to show them off either. I never have. Just not who I am. I definitely felt sexier with DH though, after I got them done.
I don't think you should be worried about the gap. I had a largeish gap prior to having them done as well and now it's gone. The surgeon will help you decide which type of implants will work best with your frame.

Thanks Pink! I am not going to be showing them off to everyone. I just want to feel sexier. My Dh loves me the way I am and actually worries that they will be "messed up" after surgery. ;) I am sure he will be fine with them though.

It didn't change my confidence level..I have always had insecurities and I still do. I am happy I got the surgery though don't get me wrong. I actually covered up more after the surgery. So ironic, eh?! Before I could wear cute tops and slinky, sexy things and afterwards I felt hoochy-ish if I wore something similar. I found myself wearing t-shirts...something I never wore unless I was working out. I am more comfortable now but it did take about a year or so to get used to them. Like PinkMartini, I did feel sexier with my hubby!
You could always consult with a surgeon to talk about the gap...I wouldn't think it would be a problem though...it would actually help them stand up more I would think.

I am really concerned about the gap thing too. But for me it goes beyond a gap. I am really thin all over (hence, the flat chest) but I am very bony on my chest - like you can see the bones in the middle of my chest. I am sure there isn't much I can do about it, but I wonder if it will make implants look very unnatural. That was DH's only concern with me getting them - that I would end up the Tori Spelling BBs, as he put it.
Also, I have another question - was it weird for any of you to tell your family? I mean they are obviously going to know. For that reason I want to go small - I just don't want people I know to be like, "whoa! where did those come from!?". My mom is SUPER old-fashioned (I jokingly call her Mary Poppins), and I know she would not be in favor of me getting them.

It was sorta strange telling my dad & brothers about it and some of my brothers friends made stupid jokes about it  But since I was having surgery I did want to tell my family just in case something happened. Nobody gave me any grief over it though and are happy that I'm happy :)

For the large breasted women...I started off as a 32D. I now have an almost 3 yr old and am a 36 DD. I nursed for 14 months. I am already planning for tummy tuck/breast lift after I am done nursing number 2...whenever that is. I just feel that my breasts look saggy....
What are your experiences? BB women??
How long did you wait before you had the surgery??

Have you had breast augmentation?
I've spent a lot of time reading up on the surgery and will schedule mine for sometime in September. However, I would like to hear from actual women about their personal experiences at this point.
I am about 5'10", 130 pounds, and currently wear a small 34B. Not a lot of breast tissure to work with so I think I'm leaning toward silicone for the more natural feel, but what do you think?
Silicone or saline or "gummi-bear"?
Under or over the muscle?
Where was your entry point?
How long was your recovery?
Have you breast fed since the procedure?
Are you happy with the results?
Any helpful hints to share?
Did you use a surgeon in Boston, MA or Miami, FL? (If so, whom?)
This is a personal decision that I have already made up my mind about so please do not see this post as a place to protest the surgery. I am not interested in nay-sayers, I would just appreciate hearing from women that have been through it or are close to someone that did.
Thanks!

I had mine done in 2001...
Silicone or saline or "gummi-bear"? I had saline, the docs I saw in 2001 did not give me any other option. I could see getting silicone for a more natural feel if it is safe.
Under or over the muscle? Under
Where was your entry point? Areola
How long was your recovery? About a week of resting then some discomfort after that but I was able to return to work & class
Have you breast fed since the procedure? Yes but not with much success. I tried to bf my daughter for about 3 weeks (4.5 years after having the surgery my DD was born) then gave up. I really regret having the areola incision.
Are you happy with the results? Yes
Any helpful hints to share? Be careful what incision you get if you want to try to breastfeed in the future. Do a lot of research.
I was AA to A cup before and had 575cc done on both sides, bringing me to a D cup. I think having them done under the muscle helped with the lack of tissue. I'm glad I did not go any smaller, these look very natural on me. (5ft5, 150 lbs when I had it done...about 30 lbs heavier now  ).

Someone I know who is very thin and has a bony chest had hers done and I think the key is not getting them too big. She also had them done under the muscle and I think they were inserted under the fold in the bottom of her breasts. Her Dr. would only go so big because of her small frame and I think they look very natural, even in a bikini.

I have been following along with this thread for years. I posted in this thread back in 2005 saying DH was totally against them and he wouldn't go with me to the surgery if I had them done and would never touch them. A few weeks ago my doctor found a lump in my breast and I had a surgical biopsy, which ruled out cancer. Since then, he is supportive of me getting the implants.
I have wanted them for 15 years and even more now that they were wrecked from pregnancy. I was a 34B and they were pretty nice, except size, but after I had DS they grew to a 34E! HUGE! When I quit BFing, the left one went back to a 34B, the right one is significantly smaller (doc says 60-100ccs smaller), so I just want them fixed! I'm 5'7 about 115 pounds and pretty petite/boney. I tried on a 34C, which I thought would seem big, but there was barely a difference, so I am going up to a 34D. A D sounds big, considering the size of my frame, so that scares me, but I don't want to go too small and regret it.
I met with the first surgeon last week and she is supposed to be the best in the area, but the price was $9,000 for silicone so I went for another consultation at a different surgeon's office. He has a cancelation this Wednesday and if I take it, they'll give me a $2,200 discount, bringing his price down to only $5,200. It's pretty fast, but since I have been waiting so long for it to happen, I think I may go for it. I'm going back on Monday morning to talk more and make my decision. I can't believe what some of you are quoting for price! I wish I could pay $3,500! And I'm only in Michigan, not some high priced area!
So here is my major concern with this and I'm hoping for some feedback. If I have them on Wednesday, will I be ok to work on Monday? I'm an accountant so it's a desk job, but I absolutely can not miss work on Monday for any reason. Is that cutting it too close? I don't care if I have to dope myself up to be there and not be in major pain, but I want to make sure it's possible to still go. What do you think?

I haven't been on this thread in a long time but I thought I'd pop back on and give some words of encouragement. I will have had them 4 years in June. Wow how time flies.
I thought I'd answer some of the questions:
Silicone or saline or "gummi-bear"? I had saline. I had no other option.
Under or over the muscle? Under
Where was your entry point? Under the boob, incision was about 1 inch.
How long was your recovery? I was up and walking around that night. I was out and about the next day. My doc has a different outlook on surgery. I was encouraged to take as many warm showers that day (I would have to go back in my log and look but I bet I took 7 or so) and was told to try to do exercises to touch the shower head. Do not do "butterfly" movements. I wasn't very sore at all and could move around that night. I slept on the couch (so I didn't roll over) with pillows for 2 nights. I took medicine for the first 12 hours. That was it! :)
Have you breast fed since the procedure? Yup. I nursed for 7 months until my daughter gave up nursing (I was supplementing since I couldn't pump much during the day due to being a teacher and lack of time).
Are you happy with the results? Heck yes. They look natural. No one would ever be the wiser and they feel real. I credit a lot of that to the method my doc used.
Any helpful hints to share? Not really. After the success of mine, I took a friend a couple of months later and my best friend just had her's done this past December. I never looked back. I am now a 34DDD but I'm 5'9" and (before getting pregnant) I try to stay around the 170lb. range.
ETA: I paid about $3500 for mine, too. It was cheaper if it was paid up front, more expensive if financed.

Kind of dopey question here - I'm pretty happy with my size (32C) but gravity has kind of started to take its toll. Is there such a thing as simply having them lifted as opposed to increased/decreased? I have no children, so pregnancy/nursing isn't a concern.

Summer - Well shoot, I should just fly down and have them where you had them done then. It would still be cheaper for me. Mine are more if financed, but the prices i listed are w/o financing. It still seems really high. Can you pass along the name of your doc?

Too funny that this thread was just bumped up - it will be my 6 year boobiversary on Tuesday  Boy does time fly!!! I can't believe I've had these suckers 6 years now!!! Only difference between now and when I first got them done is they are a lot more natural looking (and feeling) thanks to 2 pregnancies and bfing...
Quick question - I haven't seen my (or any) plastic surgeon since my last post op appt a few months after they were done. I realize they will need to be replaced at some point but I haven't had any problems or anything thus far (knock on wood). I'm wondering if I should go in for a 'check up' or something  We don't live where we did when I had them done - so I'd need to see a new plastic surgeon at this point and wonder if I should set up a consult with a new one in the near future. I have saline and I realize they can last for 10+ years but when does one know they need to be replaced? Anyone know?
Also - anyone have a replacement and switch implants? I want to look into switching into the gummy silicone when I get them replaced but am wondering if they will feel/look different than I'm used to with the salines...

I had my implants done today. I'm feeling pretty good, as long as I don't try to move much and stay up on the pain killers. I thought I would come out a 34D, but my PS said the D looked fake on my frame so I am a 34C. They are really hard and my left one is about an inch higher than the right, so I'm hoping they'll even out when they drop. I can already tell, I'm going to have some killer cleavage with these babies! :D

Well it's been 6 days and I've been off my pain pills for days and I went back to work after 4 days. I went and bought my first bra and I'm a 32DD/34D, so definitely not the 34C my PS thought I would be, but I hate them! The size isn't what bothers me, I think they actually look really good on my frame, but they are so freaking high! They are probably 2 inches under my collar bone, but I have to wear baggy or cowel neck shirts to cover them up because it looks horrible. It's like obviously fake when I'm wearing even a semi-tight shirt becuase it's such a sudden high bump. I went and had my stitches taken out this week and the nurse told me I could start pushing them down to try to get them to drop, but when I push them they just bounce right back up. I keep worrying they aren't going to drop and I'm going to be stuck with them!
How long did it take for you to drop? When did they soften up? Anyone have impants that didn't drop?? Is that possible?
Smittenk
04-15-2009, 05:47 AM
It has only been 6 days for you?! Definitely don't worry. Mine gradually dropped and "fluffed" over the course of 6 months. They probably started looking normal at about 1-2 months post op...I'm trying to remember since I don't have access the the post op pics I took very month.
I know every doctor is different but mine encouraged massage. I remember it killed and DH had to do it for the first week or two cuz I couldn't bring myself to push hard on them but it definitely helped me. They softened and dropped quicker than if I hadn't done it.

Delaney21- Mine took a long time to drop, I can't remember the exact time line, but it was more then 6 days. :) As I recall, I saw at least some improvement after about a month. I had mine done over Thanksgiving break in 2001, and when I visited my family for Christmas they had improved some but were still on the higher side. It takes time for the muscles to relax, stretch, and adapt to having something under there.
PinkMartini
04-15-2009, 09:15 AM
Yea mine took a lot longer than a few weeks to drop all the way as well. And my PS told me that I needed to massage as well. I massaged them twice a day and it seemed they got softer a lot quicker than they should have (especially if I hadn't massaged them).
I've never heard of implants not dropping so I wouldn't be too worried :)
