I'm embarassed to post this, but I don't know what else to do.
Just recently I've noticed that my underarms have been sweating more than normal. I can't think of anything I've done differently.
Since this has happened I've tried different deodorants, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Is there anything else I can do? How can I make it stop?
There was a thread about excessive underarm sweating in the chit chat section. Here's the link:

I have hyperhydorsis and sweat terribly under the arms. I have begun using CertiDri at night and then regular AP during the day and that seems to have solved the problem :)

My sister and I both suffer from terrible under-arm wetness problems. We discovered Drysol (prescription only) years ago and use it faithfully. It can be a little rough at first because it's a major irritant and itches like crazy, but after the first few times of using it, it's not that bad. I still use regular deoderant as well because Drysol only gets rid of the wetness and does not protect against odor.

I have been using DrySol for about 2 months now and sometimes it still makes me itch like crazy! My underarms are always red. I even wait a few days before shaving and then use it. It still burns.
Do you know any remedies to make it not hurt as bad? I even wake up in the middle of the night sometimes with it itching like crazy. I have to get up and wash it off.

OMG I have the same problem. I can not wear white shirts because I will stain them within minutes. I've tried several different deoderants as well but am still sweating to the point where sweat is rolling down my sides, gross I know but I don't have any insurance so I can't see a dr. about it :o

I had the same problem a few years back....it was really strange because I never used to sweat then all of a sudden it got really bad where I'd my underarms would sweat a whole lot, even when it was cold out. My doctor gave me a prescription for drysol too. I used it (although I have to agree with everyone who said its very irratating) but only at night. I never even finished the first container of it because the sweating got better. Now I just use regular secret and I don't have any problems at all!
Definitely give drysol a try!

Certaindry is available over the counter and has the same ingredients as Drysol. I have found that Secret Platinum Protection has the highest level of the aluminum that is the active ingredient, so it is the most effective deodorant I've found. Most list the % of aluminumon the front of the label.

Well, a few months ago I read a magazine article on a woman who tested a bunch of different types of deoderants; drysol being one of them. She said one of the best things to do after applying it is to take a blow-dryer and dry your underarms after application of Drysol. For some reason, she said it cuts down on the itch and burn factor. I tried this because I still itch pretty badly even after using it for years. It does help! Also, try reducing the amount you are using. Remember, this stuff is super-potent! I used to use quite a bit of it at first and I itched so bad that it kept me awake all night. Use only the amount that stops the sweating problem and no more than that. You will probably have to do a trial and error method to figure out the least amount you can use and still have it work.

Do you use deodorant during the day & DrySol at night?

I just started using Certain-Dry last night. WoW! It burned like the freaking sun, and I couldn't sleep for a couple of hours. I'm sure that I put it on too soon after bathing & shaving.
I take showers at night and have to shave, so how long would be a good time to wait until putting the Certain-Dry on?
Also, if you use a deoderant during the day, do you still use a strong one or maybe one like Dove that is a bit more gentle?

Yes. Drysol only cures the wetness problem. You still have to use regular deoderant during the day for the odor factor.

Do not ever use it right after shaving!! It's like rubbing salt into a raw wound! No wonder you were kept awake. You need to not shave for at least two days before using the Certain-Dry.
I use Secret Platnium, but I also have Dove for when I run out of the Secret. I haven't tried it yet, though.

Ok yes...NEVER use after shaving. OMG! This is what I do...I shave in the morning (since you have wash off the stuff anyway) and I might put a little on that night but wont shave whn I wash it off the next morning. Then that night I put it on and shave the next morning. So I shave about every other day. Still burns like shit though...I think I may be allergic. But I dont care bc it works. LOL
I just bought Dove Fresh Invisible Solid...it smells nice!

See, there is NO WAY that I can go even 24 hrs w/o shaving. My hair grows unbelievably fast, so it will be painful to shave after that long and really gross underarms. I guess I can put it on at night then shave in the morning, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of putting it on. If you are just going to wash it off in the morning when you shave, how can it do anything for you.

Because you are leaving a super-powerful deoderent on overnight (6-8 hours, at least). Believe me, it is plenty long enough to do the trick. I'm telling you though, it is still going to itch and burn if you shave in the am and then put it on that night. But, I guess that's better than shaving at night and putting the Certain Dry on right after.
bengirls1222- Me and my sis both think we are allergic to it too. But honestly, I think it's just the fact that it is really strong stuff being used on a sensitive area of the body. Speaking of which, could you imagine putting that stuff on.....(ahem)....other areas??

I just thought of something. in my original post I mentioned that the sweating just starting occuring. Could it be due to the fact that I just went off BCP? Is it a coincidence or a side effect?

That's a good question! I think sweating is related to the hormones, so it seems pretty darn likely to me. You could call your gyn and ask him/her!

It works when your glands are not "working" so to speak. And when you are asleep, is when it works best. Then you wash it off but your sweat glands are closed at that point.
I actually tried Certain Dri and it didnt work for me. Only DrySol has worked for me.

Another former Drysol user. Like Jetter, I suddenly developed quite a problem one summer in college. Drysol burned like the dickens at first, but I didn't have to use it every night and eventually didn't need it at all. Never finished the bottle and the problem went away. Great stuff.

The same thing happened to me as far as it worked so well that I was able to eventually stop using it for almost two years. Then, out of the blue, my sweat glands started acting up and I had to go to the doc to get a new prescription for the Drysol. I think the stuff closes up your sweat glands for an extended period of time, but then eventually wears off. I sweat so badly that for me, Drysol is not an option but a necessity.

I am the girl who posted about the botox for underarm sweating that was previously referenced. I tried Drysol when I was much younger (like early teens maybe 14?) and I was highly allergic (burning and VERY irrated). I found Certain Dri in college and it worked wonders for maybe 2 years and it was like it just stopped working. I went to my dermatologist and she suggested Botox. There are other alternative. My dermatologist has just put me on some medication (taking 3x a day) to reduce the sweating because my Botox is not lasting as long as it should.
My derma just recently told me to cut out caffeine as it can increase sweating.
Also, before you start anything besides like the overthe counter stuff/Drysol, make sure you get tested for Thyroid problems. An overactive thyroid can cause sweating....

kagbsc7: Do you actually have to have the Botox injected into your underarms? OUCHY!! (I'm a big baby when it comes to needles, so I could never do that)

Yes, I do have Botox injected directly into my armpits. I was so scared when I got it started that it would HURT!! It so totally does not. One syringe injects Botox maybe 8-10 sites. It is super quick and feels no worse than a pin prick and lasts about as long. No long-lasting pain and what little pain there is goes away as soon as the nedle comes out. But it is so worth everything for being sweat-free!!

Here's a tip for you guys but don't know if it will work like you want it to. But a friend of mine had the same problem and what a doctor recommended her to do was after you shower or anytime clean your under arms with alcohol. Dab it on some cotton balls and just clean really good. Don't put any deorderant until under arms are dry. It helps kill bacteria and if you look at the cotton ball it might even look yellowy. Its suppose to help with the sweat and even smell. I mean I didn't believe it so I decided to try it just for the heck of it and it did work. So maybe its something to think about if haven't tried yet. Wish ya luck!
