This is the first year in a long time that I've gotten into decorating for Halloween. Might have to do with this being the first year I haven't worked in about 15 years! I also carved my first pumpkin since High School!
The decorations aren't elaborate, but I love them! :)

We don't do much outside, but every year I carve one of the fake pumpkins from michaels. Eventually, we'll line the walk with them!

I dont have any pictures but I normally buy 3 things of hay and put a pumpkin on each of them and then 2 things of corn. I also am going to buy one of those inflatable halloween things for the yard. I want to go all out this year but I am still trying to gather ideas.

I didnt know you could carve those ones? Are they just styrofoam, is it easy to carve?

Im not emschwar but I carved some pumpkins to make an address thing. I got the idea from someone on here. ( I can't remember who. :o ) But it is really easy they are hollow and can be carved using many things. Howver I bought one of those Versa-tool knives. It heats up and cuts through the pumpkins very easily.
Heres a pic. I made mine so I could use it for October and November,

Thank you like I said I borrowed the idea from someone here but adpated it a little bit. I need to see who it was so I can give credit. If I can do it you can. I also found the similar idea on Michaels.com (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=br002) Thats how I got the idea to put the pot right side up and use the moss. It is a little time consuming. It fell over last year on a very windy day. I just picked it up and put it away because it was so close to December. So yesterday I had to put it back together again. I put them together using alot of hot glue.
ETA: I went and looked in the thread. I got the idea from shellbell516 in the All Things Halloween thread. http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2603&page=11

The fake pumpkins are easy to carve! A heat knife does make it easiest, but I've had trouble finding one I liked. (I tried the versa-tool and the knife blade wouldn't stay in.)
What I use now is the Pumpkin Masters artificial pumpkin carving knives.

I had the same trouble. Its not easy to try and screw on a very hot blade.

I personally liked when the blade would get stuck in the pumpkin and then I had to try to pull the blade out and screw it back in while it's burning hot!

Oh yes you can! It is fun. You can be very creative.
I just came across some pictures from Halloween last year and thought of this thread. It was our first Halloween in our new house. I had tons of fun decorating!
I made all the ghosts myself. And it's sort of hard to see, but hanging above the stairs is a bat, which was battery-operated and flew in circles. We had it on for the trick-or-treaters, and it was a huge hit:

CUTE, MLA!! (and I love your house, too-- really pretty)
We usually just do a Jack o'Lantern on the porch and a small scarecrow hanging on our door. When I first moved into this house 7 years ago I put all these cute lanterns down the walk and some other decorations on the lawn-- and most of them had been stolen by night's end. Little punks! Someone even took one of our potted plants! So now instead of putting decorations out, I take everything inside-- patio furniture, plants, everything. Nice, huh?
Thanks, Rosebud! I can't believe they stole your decorations. That sucks. I'm telling you, you just need to make the move to NC, where you can live in a neighborhood w/o hoodlums for next to nothing! ;)

I'm so excited to decorate this year.
I think I'm just going to line the sidewalk with pumpkins, put out the Halloween flag and possibly get some corn and hay. :)

I saw a really cool idea in a Parents magazine. Use stickers or cut-out shapes to create a pattern on your pumpkin (circles, diamonds, stars, whatever); then spray-paint the pumpkin with black paint. Remove the stickers and you have a black-and-orange design. I'm going to try it this weekend!
Oh, and MLA, can I just say I love your decorations--and your house!
Aw, thanks, ginadc! I like your pumpkin idea. I may have to try that. :)

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I decided to do a Harry Potter theme in my front yard this year. Turns out, there are almost no HP decorations, so almost everything was made by me.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k219/jmlong9798/House/DSC07460.jpg
Aragog (made from chicken wire) climb onto a couple bales of hay, with little spiders all around him.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k219/jmlong9798/House/DSC07322.jpg
HP chasing the golden snitch. I bought the robe at a thrift shop and the broom. Everything else is from things found around our home. His glove is a latex glove, stuffed and painted brown.

The Golden Snitch (Styrofoam ball with plastic wings)
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k219/jmlong9798/House/DSC07337.jpg
Quidditch rings (5ft metal poles with small hoola hoops attached, then painted gold) and Nagini (a 10ft drain pipe wrapped in a tarp, head and tale are just stuffed tarp. total length is 13ft 8in)
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k219/jmlong9798/House/DSC07462.jpg
Dark Mark, now hangs in the big window in the front of the house. The mark actually looks like it is glowing at night with the lights on in the house. (I scanned the picture from the book, then used a projector to copy it to the black material. Then I cut it out of the black, used that as my patter for the green. Then hand stitched the whole thing together and added all the details.)

Peter Pettigrew (a drunk rat from previous decorations) and the Sorting hat (plastic chicken wire covered in paper mache and painted.)

I'm ashamed to admit I have BARELY decorated for Halloween - which is next week! I've gotta get cracking.

MrsWilson WOW!!! Those deocrations are awesome. You did such a great job!
Love the Harry Potter theme! What a good idea!
MLA - the ghosts are cute. :) How did you make them?
Thaks. :) I just bought a cheap, white bedsheet and cut it into squares. I balled newspaper to use as a form for the head and then secured the ghosts' necks by tying strips of cloth around them from the sheet. I made faces with a sharpee and hung them with thread.
The big ghost is just a sheet tied over a fall scarecrow that I have in the yard as autumn decoration.

Thanks for the compliments. I only have one thing left to do. Tomorrow I am hanging orange glow sticks right in front of the door so they are floating candles over the trick-or-treaters. I hope to add more each year, but for a first timer, I was pleased with the results.
