Hair coloring help

I have been looking for a change for quite a while. I had my hair dyed last year, but I wasn't thrilled with it and I paid a lot of money to have it done. So now I'm thinking of getting one of the DIY kits, but I don't know where to start. I need some opinions. I have fairly dark hair and very fair skin! I really wanted to do some highlights, like red or blonde. Anyone have dark hair that they highlight or dye?

Hi!

I have kind of dark mousy brown hair with 15% or so gray. My guy uses Redken and I go a shade lighter than normal and then we throw a couple of highlights around the face. Then the next time I go in to color, we just do overall color. The next time, over all color w/ a couple of highlights, and repeat. I have found this looks totally natural and most people can tell I have had something done, but they aren't quite sure what.
