Here is our Mini Poodle, Bea. She is 7 years old. We got her from a breeder 6 months ago. She is such a sweet baby girl!

Here's our one year old toy poodle, Keegan. We got him through a local rescue group about 2 months ago and he is an absolutely wonderful little guy. His original family gave him up due to a high risk pregnancy since he is still pretty high energy (he's still just a puppy). Keegan is the 5th poodle I've lived with and I have to say that they are generally great dogs. My dad's toy poodle is much bossier than any we've ever had before but he's very affectionate and wants to be with his people all the time.

Keegan weighs about 7 1/2 pounds. The only issue we've had with having such a small dog is that he loves to be held by adults but we're a bit fearful about kids picking him up. He likes to be petted by kids and will give them kisses but he wants DH or I close by when strange kids come up to him on our walks because he's a bit nervous of them picking him up. Otherwise Keegan is extremely laid back. He actually lets us pick him up and turn him over on his back in our arms. He thinks it's great fun and will just flip his head back and look around.

I grew up with poodles my whole life. My parents still have 2 standards. Here is a picture of them:

http://images.snapfish.com/3444358723232%7Ffp58%3Dot%3E232%3B%3D56%3B%3D%3B55 %3DXROQDF%3E2323957%3B%3A3%3A77ot1lsi

Shonte has the blue collar and Sabrina has the red one :)

I would recommend poodles to anybody. Smart, wonderful, non-shedding dogs! :) ( If you are going to get a Standard however, it's best you have a ton of room for them to r-u-n! ) :D

HI MO!
My Sangria is a pure bread poodle! I don't get her groomed like a poodle but that's what she is! She's amazing! I don't think that i would get a different breed! I'm echoing what everyone else has said- they are soooo smart! Sangria is soooo eager to learn new tricks and show off the ones that she knows! Poodles were originally bread to be hunters so they have this great instinct! Sangria chases geese and birds and such (well, we give her the 'go get 'em' command and off she goes). She has hair instead of fur (i bathe her with Dove Shampoo and Conditioner ;) ) so she doesn't shed!

The only issue with her breed that i've experienced with her is bad knees. Her knees go out on her (more so in the cold) but the vet taught me how to put it back into place. As she gets older (she's 7 now) she may have to get surgeory to tighten her knee caps.

The breed is amazing- any size and i highly recommend them!!!

Here she is on my mother's lap:

MO! I was going through my old WC journals and i saw in my planning journal how we became journal buddies- it was because you noticed Sangria in my signature and you told me that you guys were thinking about getting a poodle....GIRL THAT WAS A YEAR AGO! WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?! :p LOL

I HAVE to share these with you...we went boating last weekend and i knew that she'd be all over the boat so i wanted her to be safe...

Ohh, I'm jealous. I love Papillions. He looks very friendly and happy. He also has the long legs like our pup so I'll warn you that he'll probably be able to jump much higher than you expect. Ours jumps over the baby gate with no problems. We've had to stack one on top of the other if we need to gate him.

On a side note, we got our pup shaved about a week ago. I'll have to post pics because he look so different. Now we're thinking that perhaps he is a poodle/jack russell cross. His legs are just too tall for his body and he's very lean compared to all the other poodles we've had.

As you can see, looking out the front window is one of his favorite activities. I'll try to get a full picture of him so you can see his LONG legs. Everytime I try he starts coming toward me and won't let me take a pic.

Our poodle is a jumper too! She can easily jump baby gates and when she gets excited she just jumps straight up in the air over and over. I am amazed at how high she can jump!

She also has really long legs. We tease that she is part foal, because she has to spread her front legs apart to sniff the ground. ;) She is very lean also. She is from an excellent breeder, and all of her poodles are long-legged and lean. I think that the breed is supposed to be this way.

kanga1622
08-15-2005, 03:38 PM
Sabriel - It would make sense for mini and toy poodles to have long legs since a standard poodle has such long legs. There's just something about him that makes us think he may be a cross (maybe it's the coloring that makes us think he's a cross). We could care less because he is an absolutely great dog. I've just never had a poodle this tall and lean before. Of course, he's started eating like a pig over the last week so he may not stay this lean for very long. :p I think he's packing on the pounds before winter hits. He'll need that extra fat for warmth. ;)

kanga1622 LOL, sounds like he is preparing to hibernate. :) I know what you mean though. You just never know with rescue dogs. We have a bichon that I would swear is purebred, but when his hair grows out he has these funny long straight hairs that stick out from the rest of his curly hair all over his body. It makes him look pretty silly! I've been told that terriers mixed with curly haired dogs can produce dogs with this type of hair coat. That would account for his attitude too! :D

kanga-We have a toy parti poodle that looks almost identical to your poodle. I looked at some other pics of your dog and I don't think he's a mix at all. Pure poodle, just parti.

Here are some pics of our poodles. Daphne is the parti and is a toy, and Buster is the apricot and is a huge mini. Poor Buster had bows from the groomer. We took those off right after these pics. ;)

LINEKELEI yours are beautiful! My little one was supposed to be apricot but as you can tell from my avatar she isn't even close! What a gorgeous color he is!

MOBOX...did you get the little guy???

linekelei

Parti poodles are poodles that are 2 colors-they mostly come in black and white, but I've also seen brown and white (the father of our parti was brown & white). You don't see them that often as they can't be used as show dogs, but I love the mixed colors.

As for your apricot poodle, our apricot was originally a very, very dark red. He has lightened up so much-he doesn't even look like the same dog anymore! So if your apricot started out pretty light, it doesn't surprise me that he/she is now a lighter color. I think they are all adorable, regardless of their color. :)

We ended up rescuing an adorable poodle/terrier mix. He is sooo precious and cool. We love him. Unfortunately, he has an ear infection. We think it is something left over from when he was in a crappy shelter in Devore. He's on antibiotics right now and has to wear a cone. :( So, I'll take some pictures next week when he is off the cone.

Took our little man, Pierre, up to the mountains this past weekend. He was so darn cute. I had to buy him booties to take him out to do his business becasue there is so much sap up there and it would get caught in his paws. It was really funny to watch him walk around in booties!!!

Anyway, he didn't get sick going up or down the mountain so that is great!

Awww...what a cutie! I didn't know poodles came in silver/grey.

I had a black, miniature poodle growing up. She was the best dog - such a smart, smart dog! She would trade with you - when she would find something she wasn't supposed to have or didn't like (cough drops, milk bones) she would trade them for a treat.

I tried to teach that to my Weim, but he couldn't get it. He was just pissed that I had stolen the thing he wasn't supposed to have! :p

wendalah

Oh, my black mini knows all sorts of little tricks like that! My favorite one: If you stick out your tongue at him, he mimicks you and sticks his out back at you. He also "talks" a lot and we've gotten to know his various "words." He has different growls that means, "I need to go the bathroom," "I'm hungry," etc.

As for Smokey, he's learning quickly. His big trick is that he's learned to roll down the windows in the car (by pressing the button with his paw).

He's loves just sitting in our laps (he will quickly outgrow that though, since his parent are both about 55 pounds) and he loves bouncing around our yard chasing his toys. I love dogs. My husband and I are seperated and I just moved into my own apartment and I need a dog to keep me company. Also, my husband always would say we would get a dog but then would never follow through. Once he even told me that I can't handle my own life so what makes me think I can handle taking care of a dog.

Can poodles be left alone during the day? Please don't "shoot" me for asking! I'm having a hard time finding a dog to rescue and I'd like to know if Poodle owners here work full-time, part-time or from home? Do you have a dog walker?

We'd walk him around 8 am and then again at 7-8 pm when we got home from work. Now that I'm a SAHM, he's home with me all day long - he sleeps probably 90% of the time. :)
