View Full Version : Help!! We have Squirrel Issues...

Okay, here's the story. Our neighbor has this huge tree in his front yard. A large portion of the tree hangs over our driveway and front yard as well. The tree has a squirrel as it's resident. The squirrel picks the nuts/seeds/whatever off of the tree and drops them all in our driveway and yard. Then, he/she comes down and digs up our yard, trying to get to the nuts/seeds. We have all these little holes in our grass.
My question is, what can we do about this? Our yard used to look so nice, now...not so much.
TIA!

What are the natural predators to squirrels? Do foxes eat squirrels? If so, you can sprinkle powdered fox urine around your yard and the squirrels will stay away.

lml, that's a good idea! I'm not sure if foxes are the natural predators, or not. But, I'll definitely look into it. Thanks!
Bellefior, cutting the tree down would be great. Unfortunately, the wind would just blow the seeds/nuts over on our lawn anyway :(. But, I may still look into that...just for aesthetic appeal. And, I don't want to even think about it being skunks. Thank goodness, I haven't seen one near our property. Thanks!

If it is skunks, it works better to treat the lawn for the grubs than to try to drive off the skunks. They won't dig if there's nothing there to dig for.
What about putting out birdseed or something similar in a squirrel feeder? Maybe if they can have easier access to food, they won't go to the trouble of digging up the yard.

Hmmm, a squirrell feeder. We never thought of that. Thanks, Greenbunny! We're doing some landscaping this weekend, so I'm sure we'll figure something out.

I think the squirrel feeder is a good idea. Be careful though! We put a bird feeder outside in our backyard and we found 3 rats in it one night eating out of it! I was so disgusted that I haven't refilled again since then.
