I was in tears while watching this movie tonight. I have no idea why I even went to go see it. I wanted to leave, but I didn't drive and my company didn't want to leave. It is completely offensive, objectifies women and is overall distasteful, rude and disgusting

It just goes to show how different people are. I thought this movie was really, really funny and thought that Carell was perfect for the role. This isn't the type of movie I usually see, but it had been so well-liked by the critics that I decided to give it a shot and am glad I did.
I do feel for you, though. It sucks being stuck in a movie when you'd rather leave, but the people you are with want to stay. Sorry that you had such a rotten time at the movies this weekend! :(

I actually liked it and this is the type of movie that I normally don't like at all. I laughed so hard during parts of it that I thought I was going to hurt myself. Yes, there were parts of it that I thought were totally disgusting and I thought the movie could ahve done without them. But overall, I enjoyed it. Maybe it's because I'm married to a gamer geek who collects things like old games and action figures! :) I guess I saw a bit of DH in the character.

Loved it. I thought it was so cute and funny. It's a somewhat crude (for lack of a better word) topic and I thought they made it a very sweet comedy. Yeah, some of the characters obviously are pigs - but tha's to show how good of a guy Carell's character is in comparison. I mean, there are pigs in real life too.

I liked it too. Yeah, it was crude. It's sad, but I've come to expect that. And wasn't it rated R?
But I was pleasantly surprised by some elements. For example, Paul Rudd's character takes on the stereotypically feminine position of being more interested in the emotional bonding of sex than the physical pleasure. He gets ridiculed for it, but it's still there. And he is portrayed as being one of the more decent guys of the group. The character Jay is the stereotypical "player," but he gets taken down a few notches by the end of the film when he gets caught cheating on his gf.
Andy Sitzer gets a ton of ridicule, but I think he does a pretty good job of standing up for himself, so that by the end of the film, you think more highly of him than of his friends. And in this day and age, I was totally blown away to see a man portrayed as waiting until his wedding night to have sex. So all told, I was pleasantly surprised by the values I saw in this film, although I did get a lot of laughs at some of the dirty jokes.

We loved it, too. I didn't find it at all objectifying--I thought there was actually quite a balance between some stereotyped characters (as happens in almost every movie) and others who were actually quite surprising (Paul Rudd's, for example). Now, crude--I can agree on that. But it's a Rated R movie and the previews make it pretty clear what the "tone" is.
I'm not easily offended, it's true, but this movie was pretty tame in comprison to MANY others.

I wasn't crazy about it and I usually like that type of movie. I thought it was a little too long. I was thinking through half of it "ok, would you guys break up so you can get back together again at the end of the movie." Although I did like how they waited until their wedding day and I loved the ending "musical."
The people sitting next to us had brough their 2 pre-teen kids to see it. Now, I doubt I could have ever convinced my parents into taking me to a rated R movie, but if I did, they most certainly would have dragged me out of that theater with my eyes closed and their hands over my ears after the first 2 minutes.

Ditto.
Even the fact that I did not drive!
I would have walked out but I was with another couple that I did not know too well.

For those of you who were offended and disgusted by the movie, I have to ask... What were you expecting? I personally was anticipating a completely gross, over-the-top offensive flick and was pleasantly surprised with the sweetness that I saw in Steve Carroll's character.

For those of you who were offended and disgusted by the movie, I have to ask... What were you expecting? Yeah, I kind of wonder the same. I had *no* desire to see this movie at all. I only went because our regular Friday night date friends wanted to go and DH wanted to go and we have a "majority wins" rule among the four of us. :) So I went. I was prepared to spend most of the movie rolling my eyes and being offended and actually I rather enjoyed myself. I wouldn't go see it again and given my 'druthers I'd have waited for a rental .. and yes there were parts of it that were just disgusting. But mostly I found it surprisingly funny and I thought Steve Carrell's character was rather nice in a geeky sort of way! :)

Friends of ours, my DH and I went to see this movie and we were cracking up through most of it.
We of course went though knowing that 1) Based on the title of the movie, it will have quite a lot to do with sex; 2) The comedy is supposed to be "stupid comedy" and not something to be taken seriously; 3) It's not something you should take your parents with you to see unless you have a special relationship with them.:p
I will say that I was shocked-no-floored to see that there were 2 couples in the theater that had brought kids obviously younger than 6 with them and they never got up to leave or anything. Now just based on the previews and the title of the movie (not to mention the rating), why on earth would you bring young children to a movie like that?
We won't be buying the DVD just because we have a lot of younger kids that come to the house and like to pop in a movie or two (can you imagine??) but we definitely found it funny and enjoyed it.

I expected a cheesy comedy. It was spur of the moment and we had some free passes, so at the last minute, decided to pop into the movie on a Monday night.
For me personally, it was much too crude and vulgar for my taste. But I know there are a lot of people out there who are entertained by that, just not me. I would never waste my time with a movie that I knew ahead of time or expected to be excessively gross, vulgar or offensive.
I just wish I had those 2 hours back!
