I can't believe there's no Sex and the City thread!! Sure, the show is off the air, but it doesn't keep me from watching several episodes a day (sometimes ;) ). So, I bought the trivia game, but none of my friends know the show well enough to play with me.

If "Elizabeth Taylor, Mommy can't look at you right now", "Just me", and "Absof*ckinglutely" mean anything to you, then sign up and we'll gab!!

BTW, they don't look alike, but personality-wise, my DH is Aden. Good thing I'm not Carrie or I'd have lost him. :)

"Elizabeth Taylor" was one of my favorite actresses with her little 'accident' at the show. Too funny!

I am a SATC fan!

Poor ET with her gang-bang! I watched some of those Season Six episodes with the commentary on and the creator was talking about what a great actor she was. I'm an actor and I would love to get an opportunity to work with animals because they are (obviously!) so spontaneous.

Right now, I've been watching every episode in order (sporadically) in order to study up for the trivia game. (I know, I'm a fanatic, what can I say?) Does anyone have a favorite episode or incident? Which parts made you laugh most? Which made you cry?

I'll start...

The ones that always make me cry (always Miranda!):
1) Miranda drops the jar of pasta sauce and breaks down when she tells Steve why she's afraid to have him move in (Season 3, I think?)

2) Miranda breaks down in the dressing room after her mom has died and the lady tries to help her with sizing.

3) Steve shows up at Miranda's mother's funeral (uninvited) and Carrie jumps up to walk with her in the funeral recession.

The ones that make me laugh:

1) Carrie's fart at Big's apartment, especially when she goes under the covers and he says "It might be worse under there!"

I know there's more, but that's the one that ALWAYS gets me.

I HEART SATC!

I have all the DVDs and watch them over and over and over.

My favorite episode is "The Good Fight" from season 4.
The fight between Carrie and Aidan is classic.

I also love "Hot Child in the City"
When Carrie and her date (who lives with his parents) get caught smoking weed and the date (Wade, I think?) tells his mom its Carrie's and she runs out with the bag of weed and says something like "Yup, it mine and I'm taking it with me"

And the scene with Aidan and his big bucket of KFC, I forget the name of that episode right now.

I always loved Aidan the best for Carrie, until the last 2 episodes when Big won me over. Maybe its just beacuse I detested Aleksandr.

What is weird with this show unlike other shows that have gone off the air, I really miss the characters as if they girlfriends who moved away.

i loved the one about the guy that the marrieds hooked carrie up w/ that 'had his light on'. i think that is one of the most 'totally correct' things that SATC dealt with. guys are totally like that!!

cry wise: the one that Charolette (spell) is going to those seminars about finding the right guy, and she stands up to say that she has been doing those things...then Carrie stands up for her. that one blows me away, b/c my sister is just like that.

I'm joining!!!

My favorite laugh moment was when Charlotte had a "tea-bagging" problem, and Samantha said "oh, just breathe through your nose".

I usually cry at some point during each show, but the one that got me the worst was when Aidan broke things off with Carrie at Charlotte's first wedding.

Yay, I love this thread!!!! :D :D

Not only do I love the arugment b/c Carrie and Aidan in "The Good Fight." but I also love when Big first goes to Paris(I think Season 2) and Carrie calls him @ 5am and goes off on him.

I love each and every episode. I have so many favorite lines...."I'm a try-sexual. I'll try anything once :p " I love watching SATC before bed!

I'm a huge fan, but I must admit that I can't watch it on regular TV because the editing bugs the hell out of me. Only DVDs, HBO, or HBO on Demand for me! ;)

"Hot Child in the City", "The Good Fight", and "My Motherboard, Myself" are my favorite episodes. I can watch those again and again and again and never ever get tired of them.

I'm a total Miranda, which works because my DH is a total Steve. :)

I cannot ever go without crying during the last 2 episodes of Season 6, part 2. When Charlotte and Harry get their baby, Carrie yells at Big before leaving for Paris, when Big shows up at her hotel in Paris, when Madga kisses Miranda on the forehead, when Samantha gets her sex drive back:) !!!!

I am Carrie up and down (besides the whole married thing) and I LOVE BIG! I guess I have a touch of Charlotte in me too.

My friend wanted Aleksandr to have her. I never really liked him and didn't think he was a good match for her.

Let's see. Favorite episodes:

No clue why but the one where the Marines come to town. Isn't that when Charlotte flashes for the first time??!?

Anyone with Smith in it. yummm. ;) My favorite of him is when he sits outside the elevator at the Under 30 party and waits on Samantha to come down from her 'fling' with her ex. So sweet and made me like him even more.

Loved the last 2 episodes.

Oh and I love Magda! I want someone like that.

Sign me up!!! I love SATC!!!

I could watch "American Girl goes to Paris I & II" over and over again. Even though Big could be and was the biggest ass to Carrie most of the time, it was nice to see them together in the end.

I only have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. Thankgoodness for HBO on demand...I can watch episodes all day long! :)

Oooooooh......so nice to find some fellow addicts! I thought I was the only one who LOVES the "Hot Child In The City" episode. The ending is so great!

I also love the Prom episode where Carrie dates David Duchovney. Love Stanford and Marcus' relationship.......and Anthony's line "I'm sending it Prom Queen" is my fav SATC line of all time!

I agree that Miranda's mom dying is the sadest episode - when you see Aidan and Steve in the pews....gets me everytime!

So what do you ladies think about the SATC movie rumors? I keep hearing that SJP is denying it. But then the rumor pops up again! In all honesty, I'm not sure how well it would translate to the big screen......of course, that is not to say I wouldn't be in the front row on opening night!

PS - forgot to say, my best friend saw SJP at the New Orleans airport a couple of weeks ago. Cara said she is tiny, tiny, tiny! And of course was wearing huge sunglasses!

I loved when Charlotte flashed....finally!

I don't know how a SATC movie would turn out but I don't care, I want to see how things turn out for each of them. And for Christ's sake, let Carrie and Big get married already.

A few favorite lines:

Miranda: "I'm having Steve's baby...pizza for everybody!!!"

Carrie's responds to Miranda's question about if a penis can dent the baby: "Where do you think dimples come from?"

OOOH I thought of the episode that makes me CRY from laughing so hard. The one where Samantha babysits Brady and gives Miranda her hair cut thing and when Miranda comes back, Brady's vibrating chair has broken but Samantha used her Vibrator to keep it vibrating. It kills me every time!:D:D:D

In my opinion simply the best show of all time!!

I finished watching the entire series last month. Now I am starting from the beginning and counting how many people they each DTD with ;)

So many favorite parts, I don't even know where to start...

Recently I just died when Charlotte said
"No on marries the up-the-butt girl!"

Samantha: "A hole is a hole!"

This is definitely one of my top fave shows of all time. I just finished watching the last season on DVD yesterday and I was so sad that I have now seen all the episodes... :( I now see why there was such a craze when the show was actually on! It's so true and SOOOOO funny! After I get through watching a few episodes, I begin to start thinking like Carrie! It's so funny! I feel like I'm part of the show! :D

I sooo love this show and was so excited when TBS first started airing it. Of course, nothing is better than the unedited versions, so all six seasons were added (and watched) to my Netflix queue. Now that I'm re-watching them on TBS, I think it's a must that I own the whole collection. :D

Some of my fav moments are when Samantha helps Carrie "retrieve" her diaphragm...now that's a true friend, lol. Samantha taking on the transvestite hookers outside her apartment, and any show with Stanford. :D

More serious moments - Sam finding out about her cancer, Carrie screaming at Big right before she heads to Paris (that was such a good scene), Aidan breaking up with Carrie...I just loved him.

Joining up!

My 3 best friends and I went on a weekend beach trip last summer and one of them brought her Season 6 Part 1 DVDs and a portable player. We all piled into one bed and watched one morning. I loved that show!!

I own all of the seasons on DVD. I watched them at the end of my pregnancy when I was too big to go anywhere.

I loved the "up-the-butt" discussion. I cried when Miranda is running around Brooklyn looking for Steve's Ma and then gives her a bath. When Magda tells her that that was real love. So sweet.

I LOVE SATC. Love it! I have the entire series on DVD. I don't know titles, and have so many favorites. I just recently re-watched the first season. It's soooo different. Carrie narrates to the camera, there's a guy who hooked up with Miranda and is Carrie's friend... he was only in the first season and then replaced with Stanford (I think?). Anyone know anything about him?

I always get choked up watching the finale. Everything about it is so emotional.

I like the episode where after Carrie got the post-it break-up from Berger and the girls go to "Bed" and she and Samantha get high. Hilarious.

I am definitely "Miranda" - by a long shot!

tgray99
07-18-2005, 06:27 AM
Stanford's gay. Very, very gay.

Miranda hooked up with Scooter in the 1st season who, oddly enough, looks a lot like Steve!

TracieB
07-18-2005, 04:37 PM
Scooter, that's right! I know Stanford's gay... what fan wouldn't know that? I'm just saying that, from what I remember, once Scooter left the show, Stanford showed up. They play different characters though - obviously.

Big Fan! Wanted to buy the game too but couldn't think of a worthy opponent to play with me. I watch the shows and can say some of the lines with them. My DH thinks I'm nuts.

No matter what if I'm surfing channels and it's on I will stop and watch. Even though it's TBS and all of the good stuff is edited.

I'm now trying to get all my girlfriends caught up via the DVDs so we can play the game.

I just think those girls have so much wisdom to offer. I'm trying to convince my single friend it's o.k. to be single. She needs to watch the whole series.

My favorite episode is hands down the Miranda's mother dying episode.

I love SATC too!
My FH and I bought all the DVDs and watched them in succession together.
I loved the episode with the "funky spunk" where Samantha says "They don't call it a job for nothing, honey." I also really liked the episode where Carrie was a candy striper and kept crying with Big's heart attack.
Saddest: the last couple- obviously, and the one with Miranda's mom dying, and when Carrie and Aiden broke up at Charlotte's wedding.
I also really liked "He's just not that into you." When that episode first came out, it was so enlightening for me. I was a serial dater and I went through a brief period of "dating like a man." It was an awesome time in my life.

I'm a hybrid of all characters- wrote a dating column and made a lot of mistakes like Carrie, sensible and direct like Miranda, Extremely emotional and sesitive like Charlotte, and sometimes raunchy like Samantha. That's why I like the show- I could really see parts of myself in the characters.

I hope no one minds me interrupting the game in progress :p , but I finally finished watching Season 6 on DVD today. I am so sad it is over (for me, anyway! - I know I'm late!). It is probably my favorite show of all time and the last few seasons I'm not sure there was an episode where I didn't cry.

My saddest episode was when Carrie and Aidan broke up the final time. I so liked them together. The scene with her in her white gown and him in his suit in front of the fountain just broke my heart. In the end Big won me over a little, but Aidan was definitely my favorite.

My happiest moment was when Miranda broke down and told Steve she loved him over Brady's birthday cake. I was so happy to see them back together. Miranda is my favorite character, although I myself am definitely a mixture of them all.

I'm going to have to agree with ardathpaige on this one: Miranda pretended to be a lesbian to get in good with the boss. Samantha actually DID have a lesbian relationship, Carrie kissed Alanis Morissette at a party, and Charlotte hung out with power lesbians but never actually pretended to be one.

What was the name of Carrie's male friend that liked videotaping his ..ahem... conquests?

He was in a Burger King commercial a few months ago.

I'm rewatching from the start and I totally forgot about this guy. He's not very likeable though. I love how Miranda keeps calling him Skippy.

Also noticing how BIG and BUSHY Carries eyebrows are.

Okay, so...maybe I shouldn't have read all 3 pages of this thread when I'm just now watching SATC for the first time (thanks to the DVDs my friend loaned me) & am only halfway through Season 3. Oh well, I knew a few things about what happens later in the show from hearing people talk about it back when it was on HBO, & knowing how things end sure won't stop me from enjoying watching every single episode myself!

This is a great show - so funny & totally addicting! I started watching Season 1 last Sunday (watched all of the first season in one day  ) & then by Thursday I'd finished the second season. Now I'm burning through the third. :) I expect to be through the entire season within another couple of weeks max (gotta get through it before the fall TV season starts!)

Funky Spunk man has appeared on some telephone/collect call ad and some other show.
I just watched this episode last night. That actor was on the show Third Watch for awhile. Actually, one thing I've been enjoying about watching SATC is that I recognize so many of the guys on the show from other shows they did either before or after they did SATC. :)

Okay, let's see...maybe I can come up with a triva question for you ladies. How about this:

What was it that the politician that Carrie dated in season 3 (who she met at some fireman contest/party thing on Staten Island - I can't remember his name) wanted her to do that she thought was gross?

He wanted her to pee on him. :o :)

Oh, I soooo miss this show! :(

Apparently a few people were mauling (sp?) my desk at work the other day trying to find my phone (locked in my cabinet) because they loved my ringer, which is the SATC themesong. When anyone calls, I always let it ring for a bit, just so I can hear the song!! :D

Another trivia question:

What did Charlotte say to Harry the first time he said the "L" word? (Hint: they were in bed)

bijouparvin

I can't remember the videotaping guy's name but I remember that he lived in SoHo and made artwork that nobody bought which (NYC gals, back me up!) is IMPOSSIBLE. If you're living in SoHo, you dern well better be making some cash.

mrs. pell - I have that ring on my phone, too! It always gets a smile from people. :)

As to the latest trivia question about Charlotte and Harry, the only set I don't own is Season Six Part One and I think that's when that happened. Maybe she told him to shut up?

I have no idea on this one, maybe time for the answer?

Ok, here's my memory of the conversation:

[Scene: Harry and Charlotte in bed at her apartment just after having had sex]

Harry: I LOVE making love to you!

Charlotte: [grimaces, worried things are moving beyond being just f--- buddies] Well, I love your hard dick. Now go home....[pushing him out of bed]

I thought it was HILARIOUS!

As I said in my post a week or so ago, I'm watching SATC for the first time, on DVD (borrowed from a friend). Right now I'm 2/3 of the way through the fourth season. Carrie & Aiden just got engaged, & I just have to say that it makes me sad to know that eventually they will break up - I love Aiden with Carrie! :p

bijouparvin

sazoo - As much as it breaks my heart that she let him slip away, I love that SATC is not afraid of showing that the women have major, glaring flaws. In most of their cases, the men (Steve, Harry, Smith) are generally better people than their gals are. But that's why we love them - they're messed up like us! Enjoy catching up!!

We need a new question in here. Let's see...

True or false: Miranda sleeps with a sandwich.

mindy

I think its false that guy that was dressed up as a sandwich kept saying eat me or bite me or something and she kept having fantasys about him but never slept with him and ended up just peeking under his costume.

New Question:

Before her son was born, what did Miranda originally plan to name him?

bijouparvin
09-11-2005, 01:13 PM
mindy - You're right! She considered it but then he turned out to be a creepy kid.

sazoo - Danny. She changed her mind at the hospital when he was born and Steve was there. My question is, now that they're married, is the kid still going to be Brady Hobbs or will he be Brady Brady? Hmmmmmm.....

New Question:
When he was a kid, what did Mr. Big think the lyrics of "Moon River" were in the verse that starts, "Two drifters..."?

I am a huge SATC fan, but I haven't posted in here because I haven't really been watching lately, but recently one of my (male) friends has wanted to watch some episodes so yesterday we rented discs 1 and 2 of Season 6 Part 1, and today we rented the third disc and all of season 6 Part 2, which we'll watch later. I've renewed my love for the show.
Harry proposing to Charlotte, Big being so sweet to Carrie, Charlotte discovering she's pregnant, and the way everyone was so kind to her and Harry. It just made me so happy to see all these great things that made the final 8 episodes so wonderful.
Okay, I'm done being a sap-I'll come back and be sappy again after I watch Part 2!

I just wanted to chime and say I love this show as well. Although I find it quite hysterical how I started watching it. Hubby was flipping channels and started watching it one night. Poof, he was addiicted and therefore got me addicted.

A couple of my favorites --

When Charlotte was ranting and said something like, "I've been dating since I was 15. I'm exhausted! Where is he?!?" Then she said, "My hair hurts." :D

When Carrie and Samantha go to the Women's Luncheon and they are given sticky name tags to put on. Carrie comments that it doesnt' really go with her outfit and Samantha says, "Hello, my name is Fabulous."

Classic!

My friend and I finally finished watching all the seasons and the last one we watched was season 4, and I just saw one of the episodes on tbs. I think I've decided on my favourite moment of the series.
It's the one when Miranda's mom dies. Samantha mouths I'm sorry to Miranda, and then Miranda has to walk down the aisle by herself and Carrie comes to her side, and then they see Steve and Aidan. So, technically it's 3 moments, but they all go together. I just love that scene. It shows how much they care for each other.

I must have lost my memory with this cold, but I'm confused. Did Season 1 end with Carrie breaking up with Big? Season 2 starts off as if they broke up, but I don't remember them breaking up. Help... I'm lost and confused!??!

Time to pop in another SATC DVD!

bijouparvin

LeslieandPaul - I think that might be my favorite "moment" as well, combined with her breakdown in the dressing room with the bra lady. That whole episode moves me to tears every time.

udsweetpea - Yes, Season 1 ends with Carrie and Big's first break-up. Basically, she shows up at the chuch where he takes his mother and he introduces her as "my friend" and the mom makes it clear that she's never heard of Carrie. Then, when they're supposed to be on their way to St. Bart's (or some other island) Carrie won't go until he tells her she's the one (or something equivalent to "I love you") and he just can't bring himself to do it so she won't go away with him. That's basically their break-up right there. She realizes that he's emotionally unavailable and she doesn't want to go any further. (...until he grows up and realizes what an idiot he was for all those years!) ;)

Thanks for clearing that up!

After watching almost all of season 2 all in one shot, I am realizing that Big was never an @sshole like Carrie thought. She played so many games, tested him way too much, and she never accepted him as he was. She thinks its all about her all the time, and him moving to Paris FOR work was not about her! Grrr, she makes me angry sometimes!

bijouparvin

50?

Yup! And she said it just like that:

Samantha: (paraphrased) "What's your ceiling for a dateable age?"

Carrie: "50?"

Samantha: "Factor in lots and lots of money."

Carrie: (takes a sip of her drink) "50?"

I can't believe I don't know the answer to the Aiden leather question. I think it might even have been a QOTD in here before. Crap! I suck!!
