Yeah, I usually just subtract the 30. I wear and 8 and I'm a 38 in European shoe sizes.

I'm pretty sure they are store brand because they say "exclusively ours" in the description.
It's these: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/2857028/0~2376778~2372808~2372940~2376188

And I could cry, but these have to go back. They are in terrible shape--there are dark fingerprints and chunks of leather missing all over them! They look like they were worn for years. Horrible.

I have a question for all you shoe ladies.
If you had to pick 4-5 shoes / sandals for work and play, what would they be?
I am trying to find out what basic shoes would look like for almost everyday wear. I only have a couple pairs of shoes and lately have been getting a higher interest in them. I am not sure if I am going the right direction. I work in an office setting and am 5'10" tall and probably couldn't wear anything over a 2" heel. I am not very good at foot fashion :).
Thanks ladies!

Since you're tall, you can wear all the cute flats that are out there this season. I *really* like the Tory Burch ballet slippers. Seems like all of NYC is wearing them though.

My current "Top 5" are mostly flats:
#1 - These black patent leather flats from BR - the patent makes them slightly more interesting, IMO, than just a regular black flat, and I have short legs so pointy toes are generally a must-have for me:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/Asset_Archive/BRWeb/Assets/Product/487/487965/main/br487965-00p01v01.jpg
#2 - Also from BR, I have a pair of matte brown slingback flats that look similar to the ones above in the front, ie. also pointy. They look great w/ skirts or jeans.
#3 - a ballet flat with an interesting pattern. I have Burberry ballet flats that I love and I got a great deal on, but any pattern you love will do. Mine don't look exactly like this, but this is the idea:
http://bur.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pBUR-2979518p275w.jpg
I also have these leopard print ballet flats from Payless - very cheap, look great w/ black outfits or brown:
(this pic is the kids version, mine do not have a strap across the top, but this is the pattern)
http://www.payless.com/Images/thumbsq/055637_thumbsq.gif
#4 - My favorite shoes of all time are flip flops. I have Reefs in practically every color. Today I am wearing these:
http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955/6h/images2.nordstrom.com/ImageGallery/store/Product/SwatchMedium/2/_5011502.jpg
#5 - It's a toss up for me between a great pair of casual sneakers or a great pair of heels, so I'm going to list both as a tie:
I'm not generally a sneaker person, but I LOVE my Pumas:
http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955/6h/images2.nordstrom.com/ImageGallery/store/Product/SwatchMedium/14/_5044814.jpg
And mule or pump, my favorite heel is the pointy toe kitten heel; I have a great pair of faux croc similar to these that I really like, or basic black is always a good choice too:

Don't limit your heels just because of your height, wear what you like! That said, kitten heels are generally my favorite height for the perfect mix of heel and comfort, and they're right in your under 2'' range.
My top five is something like:
Work (staple): a black conservative go-to, like so
http://www.zappos.com/images/732/7329289/985-440945-d.jpg
Plus, I like some fun work/dressy shoes, like these
http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955/6h/images2.nordstrom.com/ImageGallery/store/Product/SwatchMedium/0/_5365080.jpg
http://www.zappos.com/images/732/7329293/985-440960-d.jpg
During off-time, I'm a big fan of sneakers.
I have these:
http://www.zappos.com/images/723/7239194/4998-256800-d.jpg
and these:
http://www.zappos.com/images/724/7240469/985-364034-d.jpg
and the must have: flip-flops. I have both of these (and at least three other pairs)
http://www.zappos.com/images/729/7294253/5089-365575-d.jpg
Clearly I have issues with picking only 5 pairs.

I like Top Siders! They're classic shoes, like car shoes or loafers. Besides, they're comfortable and hard-wearing. I have the brown ones and I wear them going for walks, when it rains, etc. And I think they look cute with khaki pants or shorts.

07-11-2007, 06:57 AM
Oh, I LIVED in those in 4th/5th grade, when everything I wore was straight out of the Preppy Handbook!
Now, they are only acceptable on my grandfather, who lives on a sailboat ;->
Maybe they ae going to be "ugly-cool" hipster shoes like hush puppies were a while back?
kd 9.21.02
07-11-2007, 07:12 AM
I wore them with my school uniform in 5th grade (but I grew up in the hometown of preppy-dom).
My dad wears them in the summer but they seem OK on him. They're boat shoes so anyone living on the coast wearing them seems to fit in.

I saw a girl (maybe around 18 or so?) who was working at Express wearing Top Siders the other day...I was like, WTF, are those back in style?? I of course said this in my head, not to her.
But yeah, I'm wondering if they are making a come-back...sorry, I will not be jumping on that bandwagon. Just like the Crocs trend, I can't do it.
Toonces
07-11-2007, 01:16 PM
Yep, I was thinking of the Crocs trend when thinking of the Top Siders, too. Maybe there will be some knock-offs that will be cute - like the Skechers Croc-offs.
If 18 yos are wearing them know, they weren't even alive the first time they were popular. IMO, they're acceptable on someone 55+. I much prefer Privos for comfort and looks.

LOL! Top Siders b/c they're supposed to be good shoes for wearing on decks of boats -----> Boat Shoes. Back in the day we called them both. I never did understand that though b/c they seemed to have slippery-ish soles. How is that good on wet wood or fiberglass boat decks?
I was wondering about penny loafers, too. Quarter? Hell, the way gas prices have gone up they should be dollar loafers. :)

Because they don't harm the surface. BF is the captain of a private sportfish boat...it's actually just kind of "known" that you take your shoes off before getting on the boat...although topsiders are normally worn because the soles don't scratch, skuff, or leave markes on the topcoat or teak. I know, I'm probably speaking in a foreign language...lol....but boat people are pretty anal about their stuff. This goes along the same lines like you don't eat things like fried chicken (or anything greasy for that matter) because on most custom boats grease will stain the teak (wood).
In fact, their so crazy that you are now allowed to take bananas on the boat because its bad luck (sportfishing wise)...lol. I've seen a captain throw the owner's wife's bananas overboard..haha.
