We already have a hair wash visor, but I can't get it on without a whole lot of screaming and then it's yanked off before I get a chance to do the rinsing!

I just use my hand and so does dh. I can't imagine taking the extra time since he gets all wiggly and upset if we wait too long

Yeah, the visor doesn't work so well for us, either. I think I used it once. I like what you posted and am interested in feedback, too. DD does seem to finally respond to "head back, please," though and leans back when I say it about 25% of the time now, so I'm hoping that may help. She's older than your DD, though.

For both kids, we use our hands to shampoo (sometimes a washcloth for my son), then rinse with the container that originally came with my daughter's infant tub.

That's what we tell our DD, too, and it works.:)

My mom's trick was to tell us to look at the ceiling and then shut our eyes. We also got to hold a washcloth over our eyes. I think it must work, as we still both have to have a washcloth to keep the shampoo out of our eyes and we are in our twenties and thirties. :o

Don't have it, but would LOVE to...I think that she would like being strung up by her big toes better than having her hair rinsed. Where can I get one?

Another hand user here. We also tell DD to look up at the lights, and as soon as she glances at the bathroom light on the ceiling, we rinse. At one point, I was nearly ready to hang a very lightweight mobile from the bathroom ceiling so she could look up at that while we are rinsing, but telling her to tip her head works and so we never went the mobile route.
She hates having water in her eyes and on her face, so we just tell her that if she tips her head back, she won't get water in her face. Of course, she is almost 21 months old and able to understand simple commands better than a younger baby, but she was still able to "look at the lights" when she was about 12 months old.

How on earth do you get enough water in your hands to rinse a kid's hair? Is there a special technique or something that I'm missing? I don't think I'd even be able to rinse my OWN hair using my hands in the bathtub.

When I said I am a hand user, I meant that I use my hand to tip her head back while I pour water onto her head from a cup that I am holding with my other hand. I also use that same hand as a sort of shield to try to prevent any extra water from dribbling onto her face. In other words, I don't need a fancy gadget to keep the water out of her face - I just tilt her head back with my hand and quickly rinse with my other.

Oh that makes sense! I thought you were scooping water from the tub using your cupped hand. : )
