I watched this show last year and really liked it. I do think some of the "challenges" they had to do were degrading, but I was moved by all of their stories. I hope they show some of the people from last season.
Anyone else going to be tunig in with me???
The premiere is the 13th and it's 90 minutes. It's on Tuesday nights. Here's the website. The contestants are already on the site:

I'm with you, Southerner!! I loved the first season. :D The only thing that annoys me is that it will end up running into the Amazing Race and then I will be forced to choose between the two shows. :(

I'm tuning in with you too! Ufortunately the show's day/time clashes with another of my fave shows (I think it's Gilmore Girls?) but that's what the Time Warner DVR is for. :)
I was hooked on Biggest Loser last year and no doubt will be hooked on it again this year. Last week I was watching an episode of that Kathy Griffin reality show and she had a party at her house and Jill, the trainer from BL was at the party, chatting up Kathy and Kathy had NO idea who the woman was. It was funny!

The show was great and it was awesome to see our favorite two trainers back again!! I was a bit confused about the men's anger and disappointment over losing the weigh-in. They all kept saying they only lost by two pounds. In reality, they lost by seven pounds if you count the five pounds they added on to the women due to their winning the challenge. It was a fair and square loss. I do think they chose the right person to go home, Ruben was definitely a loner and even their trainer (Jillian) said he was going to be her problem child. It's very hard for me personally to root for any one contestant in this show as I want all of them to succeed and meet their goals. That being said....go ladies, go!!!! :D

I loved how the trainers didn't know about the teams until they met them. Thier reactions were great.

Glad they were smart and got rid of Nick, for some reason I like Seth.
jimmysgirl424
09-28-2005, 10:03 AM
Nick had the least impressive "after" video I have ever seen. Who was he kidding when he said he didn't know how much he weighed? More likely, he hasn't lost another pound and is just embarassed to admit it. What a loser. I also didn't find him to be much of a team player, so I was glad he went instead of Seth.
I'm still all about the girl power!! Imagine Suzy still losing four pounds after her team was all mad at her for drinking 38 milkshake shots!! That must have felt great for her!!

I was so glad Nick left. Although he did lose almost as much weight as the other guys, he wasn't working as hard. He just didn't seem to have the same drive to follow through.
I guess that was proven right at the end when they showed him his "after" video and he went back to his old ways with a few small improvements. I did feel kinda bad for him, he seemed depressed :(

DH & I watch Gilmore Girls on Tuesday nights & tape Navy NCIS, so I only get to watch The Biggest Loser during commercials. :(
I saw Suzy decide to drink the milkshakes so she could win the personal chef for the week, but didn't see the end of that challenge. Did anyone else drink any milkshakes, or was she the only one? Was her team really mad at her about it? Did her winning mean that she & one other girl got to have the personal chef, or was it her whole team? I am glad to hear that she lost a decent amount of weight this week, despite the whole milkshake thing.
I also saw part of the last challenge (the one on the train) & the very end of the weigh-in, when the girls won. Yay girls! I didn't see the final vote ceremony where they guys picked off Nick...but from what you ladies have said, it sounds like they made the right choice!

She was the only one. We didn't hear too much about people being mad at her, can't remember who made a comment though (Shannon maybe?) She chose Ryan to be her buddy and just them two had the personal chef.
Anyone else cry when they called home?

Oh ITA! I was just kidding. I doubt he will have a book anyway. He has even less to offer than the professionals because he is not a success story (at least not yet). He reminds me of an ex I dated in college who was very smug. Not an attractive quality! Yuck…

Besides, why would anyone want to buy a book about weight loss by someone who wasn't able to follow through on the diet and exercise plan he was given by professionals during his stay in the Biggest Loser house? I really did not care for him at all and was glad to see him go. I think the Red Team will be much stronger without him.

Wow, those were some tremendous weight losses by everybody this week!! I was so impressed and happy for all of them. Especially after the past two weeks have had some pretty disappointing losses. Guess they broke through the plateau!
The Blue team is seriously losing cohesion. I am very much hoping that being forced to allow the men to have the deciding vote on who went home will be enough to make them all come together again and be a team. It's the only way they will be able to beat the men.
Good for Matt for taking over personal trainer duties; not just for his own team members, but for the girls too. That really impressed me. :D

Ok, the girls aren't getting along because of something that happened in Vegas. The players were offered the opportunity to pick a card with a dollar amount ($1-$5000) on it in exchange for not getting to work with their trainer all week. The guys talked it over and decided not to hold it against any of their teammates if they took it. Matt would train them. So, 2 guys did it. The girls didn't discuss it at all and 3 took it, Shannon, Suzanne and Jen. Shannon and Jen worked out with Matt and the other 2 guys. Suzanne didn't work out at all. Frustrations came to a head when Ryan criticized the 3 money takers at breakfast one day (particularly Shannon). In the vote, the 3 non-money takers voted for Shannon and the 3 money takers voted for Ryan. The guys had to come in and break the tie. They said Ryan always had excuses so they voted for her.
It was a really good episode!

thank you!!!! so is it correct to assume she was still harboring a grudge for her (Suzanne) not working out with them? Did she lose big numbers though?
tgray99
10-13-2005, 09:19 PM
OK, here's why the team had a problem with Suzanne this week.
They had a temptation where the teams were shown a doublemeat cheeseburger with everything, fries with ketchup and a chocolate shake with whipped cream. They were told all of the info about the "meal" in front of them and then had 1 minute to come up with a total number of calories for the meal. Several of the girls figured theirs' and when they came together Suzanne got loud and overruled them. The majority were saying that it was somewhere between 2500-3000. Suzanne (who didn't calculate anything) said it was 4500 and stupidly, the girls went with that answer. The winner was the closest one to the actual amount. The losing team had to climb one step for every calorie they missed it by.
The actual amount was something like 2800, one of the girls was off by like 30 calories (I think it was Jen). So, the guys won and got to spend the day at Universal Studios (Biggest Loser had rented it out just for them). After that, no one wanted to listen to Suzanne anymore. In the challenge Suzanne tried to force her way onto the group again as to strategy and Shannon spoke up and said "this is how we should do it" and they did it and they won. At the end Shannon was quick to speak up and claim the strategy as her's so Suzanne wouldn't sneak in and take credit.

These girls and guys are giving me some inspiration to get my butt to the gym and running trails again and start working off my extra lbs. That pudding/whipped cream dessert looked so good! I wonder if it will be the same as last year w/a final 2-3 people and the winner is the one who looses the biggest percentage. Some people just drop lbs fatser than other no matter what they do.

I am so impressed by Pete. He could have chosen selfishly but he understood the gravity of his responsibility to the group. I wish they chose Jeff instead of did what's "best for their team". He certainly didn't do what's best for himself.
I don't know if I am impressed by Pete or not. I mean, it seems that he did make wise choices, except for himself! He saddled himself with the weakest player, not a good choice if you want to win the game. I don't think I respect him as a 'contestant' because he surely did not set himself up to win the $250,000. I, of course, do respect him a lot as a person, but they are not going to give the $250,000 to a 'good person.' Since Pete was losing tons of weight each week, he very well might have won the whole darn thing, had he played the game a little bit better.

I agree, he could have put himself with a girl and won the whole thing. I think he was more there for the weight loss aspect than the money winning thing.
It sort of bothered me that Jeff wanted to go home. I could see Pete continuing on with the program but not Jeff. I think Jeff needs to stay there as long as possible, he seems like he could backslide very easily just because he worries so much about other people rather than himself.

The cover of the People that it's in is "Body After Baby" with Denise Richards on it. There were several at the store when I was there today. Pete is easy to find, because there's a heavy cardstock ad for Verizon right after the article and the magazine almost automatically opens to him. Page 82.
I like Matt much better than Dr. Jeff. For some reason Dr. Jeff kinda gets on my nerves.

Mark looks SO good now, too... omg... and I didn't like him AT ALL until the last two episodes. His attitude really changed for the better. I still didn't mind him going, and thought it was the right move strategically. But, oh la la, Mr. Policeman!! :p

This was a really good episode! I love that Dr. Jeff lost the biggest percentage even though he was by himself!
I was convinced they'd kick Andrea off by the way they were featuring her breakdown and her husband telling her how he wanted her home (hello? saboteur?) But, it was Mark. I think that was a political move. Matt knew Mark was a bigger threat and voted for him to leave so he'd have a better shot of winning. Always a competitor.

great episode!
I wonder if next week someone gains weight at the most shocking weigh-in ever.
I kinda like the team thing, I wish it would've lasted longer than two weeks. They could just pair up Jeff and Andrea to make a team??!!
I don't remember last year's contestants losing so much weight. Speaking of Lisa looks great too!

WOW!! Mark looks great! I almost forgot he was a policeman and had to get into his kevlar!! I wish I had saved the first couple episodes so I could go back and watch!
Didn't Matt say he wished he had his hair cut more (after the fact)? I bet in the update (whenever that may be) will show him with another hairstyle.
I think someone gains next week. It hasn't happened yet, so it's about time. That or Andrea walks out and goes home?
I actually was getting upset with Dr Jeff, he's seeming so sappy right now. Get it together. I really liked how Matt went back and picked up his partner...how sweet the guy is!! I was hoping either he or Seth would win, and was glad Seth did, but not Suzy. I don't care for her voice and whinning. SHe cries at EVERYTHING!!

I thought, also, that next week's "shocking" weigh-in will involve someone or a couple of people gaining weight. None of the makeovers were remarkable, honestly. Shannon got her hair highlighted and straightened, which was the most noticeable change. The rest were just minor things. They changed the game again this week. There are no longer any teams, every individual for themselves. The two people who lost the least percentage for that week are eligible to be voted off. The challenge this week was a jump rope type exercise. Matt won and so he had immunity. Since he had immunity and the weekly weigh-ins would be week-by-week and not cumulative, he thought his best strategy would be to not exercise and to gain weight for the week so that he could loose more weight next week. When Matt hopped on the scale he was surprised to see that he had gained 12 pounds in one week! He was expecting to gain, but not that much. Dr. Jeff lost an additional 14 pounds this week, bringing his total weight loss so far to 100 pounds! Shannon was 2nd to last percentage wise and then Andrea was last. Shannon was voted off because she was seen as a bigger threat to the others than Andrea was. They showed how she looks now, and she looks great!

Oh Yeah! How could I forget this, Matt let Suzy cut his hair. She cut it pretty short and he looked totally different. He looked much younger and way cuter with his hair short. It was quite a shock for everyone since he didn't let them cut his hair at the makeover the week before.

I kinda feel bad for Shannon. She has a tough (if not tougher) road ahead of her to keep her weight off. Did y'all see her family? They are all overweight, so that will make it that much more challenging for her. Maybe she can motivate all of them to make healthy changes?? I hope so, for her sake.
I think Matt was smart (game strategy wise) to not try as hard this week. Although, 12 pounds

You know what I was thinking about.....the people who have shed mad pounds are going to need some plastic surgery. I think that might have something to do with why the guys don't have their shurts off anymore when they get on the scale. Imagine how droopy Dr. Jeff's "boobs" are aftre losing 100 pounds. They are going to have a ton of extra/stretched skin that need to be removed now.
Also, Dave from last year is a muscle man now

Next week when they have to carry their weight up the side of the building. Matt will have to carry 99 pounds vs. Andrea's 46, big difference there!
Next week, they narrow it down to three, then they all go home to finish losing weight on their own. At the finale, they have a final weigh in and yes, the winner is determined by the overall percentage among those three.

I just found this thread. Matt currently lives where I live and the local radio station has him on the mornings after every show to talk over what happened. He's always been super nice and funny on the radio and I think he tries to say things to throw the DJs off the track on whether or not he'll win. I hope he does!
I think the fact he was a former collegiate wrestler under one of the best coaches has helped him with exercising plus, he knows the tricks wrestlers use to shed water weight before weigh-in at a meet. The long-sleeved shirt under a short sleeve and stocking cap while working out are two of those!

I thought that Matt really got screwed in the challenge because he did so good going up the ladder the first time. Andrea was the last one to the top both times, but she still won the challenge, I didn't like that at all.

It's amazing how much better looking these people are now that they have lost so much weight.
I think I would like Suzy to win it all! Girl power!

Up to the time the remaining 3 went home, 12 weeks had passed on the show. My vote is for Suzy, since the others I had been rooting for have already been voted off. It's gotta be a girl this time! :)
Tuesday's episode is 2 hours.

Based on commercials Matt looks too thin, almost cancer patient looking thin. Suzy looks fabulous though.

Matt had a lot to lose, so maybe that's why he looks too thin?

I read in TV Guide that Suzy has gotten lasik eye surgery so she doesn't have to wear her glasses anymore. :)
I kinda wondered if Bob was gay too...maybe I was just imagining the chemistry I thought I saw between him & Suzy. :p

Me three!! Does anyone have knowledge of where we might find the info as to his sexual preference? I don't know, my head doesn't want to wrap around him being gay. He is very macho for one. Not that that means a darn thing, but most gay guys have a very definite effeminate (sp) personna. Bob doesn't.

Me too! I was watching the show while reading a magazine, and when I looked up and saw Suzy hugging a guy, I had NO IDEA it was Bob. From the way the hug looked to me just glancing at them, I couldn've sworn it was her boyfriend (though she's single) the way they just latched onto each other, until the camera panned out and showed Bob's face. They would make a cute couple, but I too am wondering about his sexual preference. Maybe his 'gentle sensitive guy' attitude is just that...maybe it's something more. I thought he was gay at first, towards the beginning of the show last season, but I'm just really not sure now.

I am glad that suzy got the lasik eye surgery, it shows that her self confidence has grown. On last week's episode she said that she always "hid" behind her glasses, that she would wear eye catching frames in hopes that people would notice the glasses and not the fat. I haven't seen any of the commercials that show how they look now, but I thought Suzy looked great last week.

Will someone give a big recap of tonight's show? :( It happened to snow here and clogged up my dish on my house and I didn't get a signal until 4 hours later after the show aired. :( :( :( I checked and I don't think there's a rerun either.
Sazoo
11-29-2005, 11:24 PM
Recap? Hmmm, well let's see, here's what I recall:
First, I missed the first half hour of the show because I got home late. By the time I tuned in, all of the eliminated people were sitting on stage, so I must have missed them each getting introduced, or whatever. Oh, & Caroline must also have announced that they were each going to be weighed one more time, & the person to have the highest total percentage of weightloss would win $100,000.
So Bob & Jillian were brought out, & then one by one, starting with the person voted out first, they went up & got weighed one last time. Before each person was weighed they showed a video clip of that person's time at the ranch. Everyone looked AMAZING! OMG, I was totally shocked at how tiny & fit just about everyone looked - especially some of those girls! Wow, I was definitely impressed. One girl, I think it was Kathryn, didn't loose much/any more weight since leaving the ranch, but everyone else seemed like they lost a LOT more after they were voted out. Most of them looked like totally different people! Anyway, Pete ended up winning the $100,000 because he lost like 44% of his body weight! I can't remember who came closest behind him, percentage-wise - I think it was Mark...or maybe Suzanne?
Then they showed some video clips of the 3 finalists during the past few months that they were at home, trying to learn to adapt what they learned at the ranch to their real lives. Suzy said it was really hard to resist the food temptations - they showed her going out to eat at a restaurant with a bunch of her friends & she got all upset & started crying because she didn't think there was anything on the table that she could eat. Later they showed her telling the camera that she'd pretty much shut all of her friends & family out of what she was going through, & then she realized that she had to let them in because she needed their help & support. They showed her having a conversation with her mom about this, & she said her mom was very reassuring. They also showed her being excited about wearing a pair of size 8 jeans (which she bought after she put on a freshly-washed pair of size 10 jeans & realized they were loose!)
Seth - they showed him working out really hard & talking to the camera about how badly he wanted to win the money. He went out to dinner with his wife & made smart food choices. He seemed to have a really good, positive attitude during most of the video clip they showed of him. At one point he did say he was scared because he knew how easy it would be to backslide & put the weight back on, but he was determined not to. Oh, & his son had some sort of seizure, which upset him a lot & in a stressful moment he ate a burrito (which I guess used to be one of his favorite foods?)
Matt's video clips showed him working out a lot, & also wrestling. He wants to get back into wrestling competitively, so he was practicing a lot. At one point he & another guy bumped their heads together during a wrestling practice & he got a concussion. He went to the doctor & admitted that he's had several concussions before. The doctor reminded him that reactions to concussions are cummulative, so he really needed to be more careful & maybe consider getting into something that is not a high-contact sport like wrestling is. He tested okay on the neurological tests the doctor ran though, so he seemed to be good to go. Matt seemed very determined to win the money as well - he said he wouldn't give up & would keep working hard. They also showed him go out to a bar to hang out with his friends. He said it was really hard because they wouldn't stop harping on how he used to do things - what he used to eat, drink, etc. He said it was weird & he didn't know how he "fit in" to things anymore. He also said he hasn't had a drink since the end of February, & is very proud of himself for that.
So then they brought out the 3 finalists, one at a time. They looked great. Seth had this huge grin on his face the whole time, & Suzy was bursting with energy/excitement. Matt seemed like he just wanted to get on the scale & find out if he won! ;) They all seemed happy to see each other, as well as Bob & Jillian.
Caroline announced that Jello was giving $50,000 to the runner-up, & $25,000 to the third place person. Suzy said she was excited that she'd get some money, either way. Then they did the weigh-ins. Seth got weighed first, then Suzy, then Matt. I think Seth lost like 42% of his body weight, or something like that. Suzy needed to loose one more pound than she did in order to beat out Seth, so she was frustrated, but still excited at her success. Matt got up there & beat them both by quite a bit - I think his overall percentage was 46%! He was super excited.
That was pretty much it...at least as far as I can remember. :p I don't remember the specific # of lbs. each person lost, but some of them were a LOT. After the show they did a commercial for a special edition of BL that will air in January. The commercial was kind of confusing about the format - it talked about family vs. family, military wives, couple vs. couple, etc. Should be interesting to watch.

Question for anyone who saw the beginning of the show...was Nick there, & if not, did they say why? I don't recall seeing him get weighed in tonight.

The finale was sooooooooooo awesome!! I was just in total shock at how great everyone looked!! The biggest surprises for me were Pete and Dr. Jeff!! They were amazing!! I got a little scared when I first saw Pete because I thought he looked too thin, but then I looked closely and realized that he literally just lost every single extra pound and put on LOTS of muscle. I thought Suzanne was model quality!! Holy crap, did she look great!! These people were so very inspiring to me. I think I cried through the entire episode this time. :o
The Final Three looked stunning!! Especially Suzy in that slinky black dress...gorgeous. And Matt, what a total hottie he has turned out to be. I have so much admiration for him; it seems he just battled that little extra bit to win the title. Poor Suzy...one pound. Seth was amazing...above that little bit of loose skin around the bottom of his stomach, there was nothing a wall of muscle! Wow!!
Guess it's a good thing that they voted Pete off early as he had the highest percentage of total weight loss of ANYONE, including the finalists!!
I can't wait for the next installment of this show.

I didn't think Suzy was annoying -- probably because she reminded me of me when I get hyper! I'm normally not a really social person and when I get hyper I just act goofy like that. Her personality seemed familiar, lol!

I was so happy Matt won (though I'm a little biased because he's from my area). He really worked hard, especially because going back to small-town Iowa, it is going to be difficult to find the motivation and support he had at the ranch. I thought it was a little insensitive of his friends to keep reminding him of how he used to be but I think they just really weren't thinking about how he really changed. He's not the Matt they used to know who just happened to lose a lot of weight, he's a completely different person. Kudos to him for being sober 9+ months. AFIK he is not dating anyone and will be returning to Iowa after all his appearances and promotions. He's an assistant wrestling coach for a local private college (which was where the wrestling shots were filmed).
Guess it's a good thing that they voted Pete off early as he had the highest percentage of total weight loss of ANYONE, including the finalists!! Actually, Matt did end up with the highest percentage of loss. His was just over 46% where Pete's was just over 43%.
The local radio station had Matt on again this morning via telephone and he just sounded so happy and so good! Everyone here is so proud of him.

Actually, Pete's exact percentage was 46.13%, not 43%. Matt did have the bigger percentage, but by a very, very small margin. Matt's percentage was 46.31%, a difference of 0.18%! Oh, and Mark was right in there with them, coming in at 46.09%.

I don't think Matt was ever in AA admitting he was an alcoholic, I think he was just drinking a lot to get like that and using it to drown his pain.
So when he said he was sober, I think he meant that he made a healthy lifestyle change to do that because he knew it's what brought him down.
At least that was my interpretation.

did y'all see when Seth lifted up his shirt how there was all that stretched out skin there. Wonder how many/if any of them will need plastic surgery. Scary.I've been working to lose weight in addition to doing prep work and going to support group meetings for bariatric surgery. The plastic surgeon that we had come in two months ago to discuss the excess skin issue pretty much discouraged me and two of my friends (one pre-op, one post-op) from considering the plastic surgery. The plastic surgery actually requires MORE recovery time than the bariatric surgery (the surgeon stated 5-6 weeks for the skin surgery vs 2 weeks for the bariatric surgery) and they actually have to do more cuts. The diagrams they showed were enough to discourage us.
I was pulling for Seth to win the entire thing, but Pete and Jeff absolutely amazed me. Talk about motivating. Jeff is the one that motivates me more than any of them. Being that he is a doctor (my regular doctor sucks) and he couldn't do this without the show and the intensive workout regimen really inspires me. I am in the same place that he was before the show, although I don't weigh as much (not that I'm too far behind). I have arthritis and climbing stairs every day is a challenge. My left leg is constantly giving me problems, as that's the knee I've had two surgeries on. He had some of the same exact challenges and he did so amazingly!!
I also thought that Andrea looked spectacular. Did you see that tiny waist on her??? WOW!

I couldn't believe how amazing everyone looked! Everyone had lost so much more weight after they left than the last season (though last season I don't think they knew that they could also win $ so even Caroline Rhea said that they had a financial goal as well).
Was the white dress supposed to be the girl (?Suzanne, I can't remember)'s wedding dress? It was a strapless sundress.
The ONLY part that annoyed me is that they say how these people did it naturally without surgery and that they are just ordinary people. Sure, they didn't have surgery, I know that. But when they are on the ranch they have nothing else to do besides eat right and work out. They work out 3 hours a day. That is not normal. I would be even more impressed on a show where they still led their normal lives and lost all that weight.
BUt don't get me wrong.I love the show. I taped the whole season so I can re-watch it when I want. I would do anything to be able to take 3 months out of my life and go and do that.

I've never watched this show, but I taped the finale last night. Maybe it will encourage me to start working out again and eating better.

I'm buying myself the Biggest Loser workout DVD for Christmas. I'm so excited! I watched the little video of it on nbc.com and all the contestants are working out with you, plus Bob. Dorky, yes, but maybe it will motivate me!

We have a show like that in Canada called Taking It Off on the life network. It's okay, but not as exciting because they just don't have the same sort of spectacular results.

Actually, Pete's exact percentage was 46.13%, not 43%. Matt did have the bigger percentage, but by a very, very small margin. Matt's percentage was 46.31%, a difference of 0.18%! Oh, and Mark was right in there with them, coming in at 46.09%.
The stats posted above came from:

Huh, thanks! I could have sworn when watching last night Pete's was around 43%; maybe I was getting his confused with Seth's. Either way, they all looked/did great!

Yep, this is correct. I was very glad that Pete ended up winning the $100k because he really was the 2nd biggest loser out of all of them. And Matt totally deserved to win, he looked fantastic. So many of them didn't even look like the same people.

Darn, i just wrote a whole post and it got erased. Let's try again.
First off, I love this show! Watching the transformation is just amazing...and the finale was just so awesome.
I was especially impressed this season by how many of the contestants really did make life changes and had lost a ton of weight! I commented to DH that this year they knew there would be a "second biggest loser" among the ones who got voted off, so maybe that motivated them to stick with it at home. I was especially impressed by the two blondes in the back row. They looked phenomenal!
Btw, was it me or was Suzy totally spastic on the finale show?! I guess she's just a ball of energy. I love her regardless...she really motivates me to get in shape.
I'll be thinking about all the contestants while I begin my post-thanksgiving fitness regimen! HAHHA! :)

I meant to post this before and totally forgot. What was up with Kathryn? I totally respect her for losing some weight and keeping it off, but she seemed to stick out like a sore thumb among the others who had lost more since leaving the ranch and looked so different. She didn't seem very happy to be there either. Anyway, I'm not trying to criticize because I know how hard it is to lose weight and how much harder yet it is to keep it off. I actually felt kind of bad for her on the finale. She seemed to be trying really hard to portray an "I don't care" attitude.
