I am starting 50 mg of clomid this week. My dr said it doesn't matter if I take it at night or in the morning. I am thinking that taking it at night would be better in case I have side effects. What have you all done and what were your resulting experiences? Also, should I insist on brand name or is generic ok? I think there is a huge price difference w/ the brand name, even w/ insurance. TIA!

I take it in the morning. I like to think that I ovulate sooner because of this.

I've ovulated on 50 mgs at CD 16, CD 17 and CD 20. If I took it at night, it might be a day later for all of those. I'm now on 100 mgs and hoping to O sooner because of it.

I get whatever the pharmacy gives me, if there was a generic, they will substitute. I paid just shy of $30 for a 50 mg RX at CVS and paid about $56 for 100 mg RX at CVS. I have no insurance coverage for fertility meds.

I took generic because it was SO much cheaper. I don't think there's any difference that I know of. I also took it earlier in the day, because I tried it one cycle at night and it made me have insomnia. I'd rather have side effects during the day than not be able to sleep! Actually, the rest of the side effects, like nausea and moodiness, happened no matter when I took the meds, so it didn't matter. The other thing with clomid is that you only take it for 5 days but you feel the side effects until the cycle ends--so in the long run I don't think it matters when you take the pills. Good luck with it!

i took it at night because i felt like it lessened the side effects that i had to deal with. i also took the generic form because it was cheaper!

I took 50mg at night too...I didn't really suffer from ANY symptoms though-- with the exception of my face breaking out (I actually was in a better mood!).

I picked up the generic @ Target for $25... my insurance does not cover infertility anything either (which completely pisses me off-- mainly b/c my not ovulating wasn't just a fertility problem!-- but I digress...)...

Thank you all for responding! I ended up just getting the generic. Thankfully, I do have coverage for most infertility issues (except IVF, which hopefully I won't need). I think I am going to take the clomid in the morning for the sole reason that I am anxious to get that little pill into my system!

I got the generic - 50mg at Costco for $12 and change. You don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy.

Smillow Are you talking about Costco? Are there prices cheaper then elsewhere? Or was that your copay?

Yes I meant Costco - sorry! That was the total price - without insurance. I just mentioned it because it looked like others were paying more. Everything else (fertility treatment-wise) is so expensive it's great that clomid (generic) is so reasonably priced! The brand name (non-generic) Clomid was around $54 at Costco.

I got generic and it worked the first time, but I still m/c. Not Clomid's fault, just my body. I also took it at night, but I got hot flashes while I was sleeping and that was horrible. My sheets would be wet and stuck to me every morning. :(

Another question for you girls....I am starting Clomid this morning and I know that it can dry up CM, so my dr told me to take Robitussin. When should I start taking it and for how long?? How much should I take?? TIA!!!

Babylove -
According to TCOYF: "2 teaspoons, 3 times a day, starting several days before your anticipated ovulation through to the 1st day of your temperature shift."
HTH!

Thank you smillow. I actually ended up getting it for 10 bucks! That was my copay at another pharmacy.

I took 50mg at night. Side effects were hot flashes and slight headache. I got the generic brand from Walgreens for $4.25. I didn't experience much change in my CM.

It worked WONDERS for me. I never really had much EWCM anyway, but I noticed a lot this month while on Clomid. I guess the Clomid didn't really dry me up or else the carrots + Robitussin really worked! Make sure you buy regular Robitussin and not the kind w/ the letters after it (like "DM")

Hi ladies:

I am probably going to be starting Clomid after this cycle....(Just waiting to get AF)..:(.... but my dr. gave me a prescription for 50mg and I believe she said go for blood work on day 3 of AF and then go back on day 10. Then take the clomid days 5-9. So my question is " what if I cannot get to a place to get blood work on day 3 or day 10?" (I.e if those days fall on a Sunday, do I go day 2 or day 4 and day 9 or day 11)?

Thanks!
