Great --I found you! I am online now looking for a hospital, and will back into an OB. Does anyone have good recs in the NYC area?

Hey nettreefrog! Glad you found the new thread already. I'm in CA, so don't have any recs for you. Good luck!
Here's a new QOTD: Have you already purchased baby-related items? If so, what have you purchased? :)
*sheepishly raising hand* I've already bought some things.
I saw a Baby Bjorn baby carrier on sale at TJ Maxx for $60 so I bought it, and this was BEFORE I even got my BFP. DH bought a baby bottle from the UC Berkeley college store with a Cal logo. I also bought an adorable Ralph Lauren layette set (for a little girl) that might be a baby gift for someone else if we have a boy.
Anyone else care to confess similar neurotic behavior? :)

QOTD You're way ahead of me. I refuse to buy anything until after the first appointment. I think it will be a field day after that! :) This weekend, though, I did buy some fall/winter clothes one size up in preparation for needing to transition to larger clothes. I am so blessed to be missing being hugely pregnant during the Texas summer months!
nettreefrog
09-05-2005, 09:10 AM
QOTD: I saved some clothes from when my DD was a baby--so I have a starter kit if you will. I won't buy much baby related gear until near the very end--as I am a bit superstitious, and we live in a NYC apartment that lacks storage space. I do have an idea of what to buy though :D
smiles33 - I think my neurotic behavior might include the fact that I am once again on this board...
kristin9903 - You are a few weeks ahead of me...Do you feel like any of your clothes are becoming a bit more snug yet?
--
1. As for me, my temperature normally runs a bit low--so I am feeling quite warm at 98.82 degrees. That might account for the hot feet that I was referring to in a previous posting.
2. The DH and I started looking at hospitals in NYC last night. I found the following link: http://newyork.urbanbaby.com/expecting/hospitals_cont.html
He is concerned that if we select one on the Upper East or Upper West Side (some of those hospitals look better than the counterparts downtown which are closer to us), it is going to take forever in traffic to get there... So, he says "if there is a ton of traffic, we'll just take the subway--it will be much faster." I looked at him absolutely horrified :eek: -- and he backed off and suggested that we just sleep on it.

nettreefrog I've been really bloated....so I've worn nothing but pajama pants and my loosest pair of jeans since finding out about being pg. I haven't gained any weight, though.

Haven't bought anything yet. I think I will hold off until we find out the sex. If it is a girl I won't need to buy many clothes because the poor thing will mainly be stuck in Ruby's hand me downs!
We won't need to buy too much stuff seeing as we are having this one close to Ruby. Need to get a bassinette though, we'll keep this baby in that for awhile, then transition Ruby out of her cot and into a bed, then the baby will go into her cot. I want to buy a decent sling/carrier too. Oh and a double pram, or maybe one I can put a toddler seat on! Oh and another car seat too. Sheesh, guess there are some things I need to start think about buying!
I still feel like absolute crud, DH is home with me and Ruby again today thank goodness.
My first hospital appt is on 19 October, at 8.50am. Ugh, so early! The hospital is about 35 minutes away but longer in peak hour traffic. I might stay at Mum's the night before because she lives 10 minutes from the hospital. :)

Nettreefrog I lurked because I see Crazycaro jumped over from April and I am so happy for her! Anyway, we recently moved from NYC and Dr. Kenneth James there delivered DS. I am so sad he will not deliver baby #2. He practices at Lenox Hill and I was referred to him by 3 different people who also loved him. I can not say enough about him. Every visit was a pleasure and so way my delivery experience with him. Hope that helps! Send me a message if you want more info and I will de-lurk now :D

Thanks for the birthday wishes from everyone! Yesterday was great! It was just so nice to be looking forward to the next year, and knowing that I will have a little one on my next birthday.
Quick update: my next doctor appt. is 9/15, not 9/6.
QOTD: I am really trying to restrain myself, so the only thing I have gotten so far is the "Miracle Baby" onesie and cap I bought to tell DH. I am feeling a little supersitious, so I am holding out until later this trimester.
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day! ;)

Hi,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Our was nice. We traveled to my parents this weekend (2.5 hours away) to tell them the news. We decided to tell both of our parents and DH's brother and wife. We told them all the same way. We bought a shirt that said "Mom to be" on it. Put it on and just waited until they noticed. All the women noticed very quickly. Both of the dads (who weren't home when the mom's first noticed) took much longer. They needed a hint ("Do you like my new shirt?"). Everyone was very excited. They have all promised not to tell anyone until later. We don't plan on telling anyone else for awhile.
QOTD: I haven't bought anything for the baby since I found out. I had bought clothes way before we even started trying. I look a lot at all the baby stuff, but can't bring myself to buy something yet.
I did buy a new bra for me to sleep in. My bbs are so sore, so I bought a light support comfy bra to wear to bed. I wore it last night, what a difference!! I was so much more comfortable and didn't hurt as much!!
Hope everyone else is doing well!!
D
I hope everyone had a great weekend. We ended up breaking down and telling a few people this weekend. Friday we told my brother-in-law and his wife, I wore a shirt that said "Due in May".They noticed right away. Saturday we told our best friends (they're married) on the way to a football game. Although we are trying to keep it a secret, I don't know how long it will last. DH has told everyone at his work already, while I am definately holding off telling people at work.
QOTD: I have bought a few things for the nursery, but nothing too big yet. I'm afraid I'll jinx us somehow.
How about another QOTD: When and how do you plan to tell people at work?
I'm a little nervous about telling my boss. I've only been at this position for a year and a half and really like my job. I'll probably tell her after our first ultrasound at the end of the month.

Just catching up from the last thread .....
IndianaBride I'm so sorry for your loss {{{HUGS}}}
Congrats marchfamily (NNB!)/Amanda! A familiar face from the charting thread - I can't believe you're on your second already!
Welcome Melissa, bloomwood, Jules!
bloomwood how did your beta go today?
Kim how wonderful that you were able to see a sac! I can't wait for that day!
Thanks to smiles33 and crazycaro for taking over the thread!
Jules the subway :eek:
QOTD-telling people we haven't told anyone yet. I am so nervous still. We will tell my parents in the next 2 weeks, hopefully after a 6 week u/s shows a heartbeat. My brother is getting married on 9/24, so we'll probably tell immediate family at some point that weekend, but it will be hard to do so without involving his fiancee's family. :confused: Work folks - I'll hold out as long as possible. They will be thrilled for me, but I want to try to wait till 12 weeks.
QOTD-buying stuff again, way too nervous. I will be surfing and bookmarking and reading opinions and recommendations, etc., but I can't bring myself to buy anything just yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had my 3rd beta drawn this morning - took 3 stabs to get a decent amount :mad: I should hear in the afternoon. I've been feeling a little icky now and again, but I can't figure out whether it's nerves or m/s!
Bloomwood
09-06-2005, 09:11 AM
CrazyCaro and Smiles33 Thank you for restarting the thread!
Bottleored Thanks for asking about my beta! My hcg was 514 and Progesterone was 30.3. I'm pretty excited about those numbers. I go in on Thursday for one more draw.
Welcome to the new members! Happy and Healthy 9 months to us all!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend! We saw lots of friends, but managed not to spill the beans. We hung out with two couples yesterday; one couple has a 22 mo. old girl and a 6 mo. old son and the other couple has a 2 yo girl and is 7 mo. pregnant with a surprise. It was so fun to hang out with the kids as well as see all the different "phases" together.
QOTD/telling work: I work for a semi-virtual firm right now as a contractor, so I see my "boss" very rarely. However, starting 9/26 I'll start going to his office 2x a week. If I can hide it (if I have m/s) I'm going to wait until the end of the first tri b/c when I tell him I will also be telling him I'm quitting to be a SAHM when I start my 7th mo. I want to wait because he will be stressed out about it. (He is a very openly gay man with a penchant for dramatics and uses drugs to regulate his highly emotional nature!) :o :eek:
QOTD/buying stuff Only thing I bought was a Stanford onesie which I used to tell J that I was pg the first time. Now I do a lot of looking, but won't buy until after the first tri. when I feel safe.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! It's great to see some familiar 'faces'!
QOTD/Telling people - I'm nervous about this pg (it took soooo long for the first pg), so we'll probably wait until after the u/s at the end of the month. I'll be at least 8 weeks by then. Work - I'd like to wait until the 2nd trimester. It will depend on how quickly I show this time (I interviewed for my current position at 20w and was still in normal clothes).
QOTD/Buying things - We're pretty set given we have an 8th month old. I'll probably pick up some more maternity wear since I want to burn the majority of the items I wore last year (you can get really sick of wearing the same thing).
Smiles33 and Crazycaro Thanks so much for starting this thread!
QOTD #1 We still have most necessary baby stuff from DS...we probably won't be buying anything until we find out the sex and if its a girl. I do want a glider though, I didn't have one for Charlie.
QOTD #2 I will be telling work next Monday. I've hummed and hawed over it. I will be 7 weeks then. I work in a small financial planning firm and we are all really close. I told them about Charlie when I was 6 weeks. I'm kind of nervous because we have a lot of big cases coming up next year. Oh well...they'll just have to deal.
bottleored: good luck on those betas! I feel your pain. No matter how many times I tell them I a) have small veins and b) they like to hide, they always end up poking me three times and then taking the blood from a vein in my hand. :rolleyes:
Good Luck!!
QOTD--telling people We told our immediate families last night--we had them over for a birthday dinner for DH (his bday is Thursday) and sprang the news on them
QOTD--buying things The only thing I bought was a onsie that says "I watch ESPN with my daddy" I gave it to DH to tell him the good news! We won a crib last fall, but still haven't put it together--didn't want to jinx anything. ;-)
bloomwood sorry! I thought your next beta was today - I realize now today is your milestone for your previous m/c. Hope all goes well for you on Thursday!
mrsk I always start them with my hand! She decided to go to my arm when the hand wouldn't give enough to fill the tube :mad: She couldn't get the wiggly, deep vein so the other hand was the last resort - ugh!
QOTD-buying things I'll change my answer to - perhaps we'll pick up a cute onsie at our next Mets game :D
Sal03 - Wow--thanks so much for the recommendation! Hopefully, you'll come back and see this...otherwise, I find you :D I notice that Dr. Kenneth James practices at Lenox Hill Hospital and New York Presbyterian Hospital-- How did you feel about the hospital itself?
Welcome everyone else!!!
QOTD: I actually told one coworker today--because she and I share quite a bit. I am going to wait to tell others though--until I am about to show!
Thanks Smiles and Crazycaro for the thread. I just posted a link to this thread in the old one to make sure everyone finds us. I would be happy to help you two, but it might be wise to have a later may mommy (they will come) since we are all due the 1st week of May. I have a feeling we will be very busy at the height of arriving babies. Let me know if you would rather have help now, I would be happy to do it.
Welcome to the new mommies. I am excited to share this journey with so many!
QOTD: Buying things, I haven't bought really anything, although I did buy a couple of bibs, pacifiers and socks to send to my parents for the surprise. However, I couldn't hold it in so I told them on the phone. DH thought it was silly I was going to send that stuff to them anyway since they won't be needing it, we will :D Probably after our 1st appointment I will feel like shopping.
QOTD: Telling work, I am worried about this. Definitely not until after the 1st appointment (9w), but hopefully I can wait until 12-16w. We will play it by ear. I will have a meeting with my bosses/supervisors/mentors sometime later in the fall and I think I will tell them then. However, if I am starting to show, I will have to do it earlier. No matter what rumors will fly. I am a professor and it is always the talk of the halls among faculty and grad students as to when where and how people should do things. I am preparing for that.
So well told DHs family this weekend. They are all very excited. I also have been getting heartburn and nausea a little more . . . definitely know something is different, but not full blown m/s.
Hope everyone had a good weekend and they you are all feeling well. I think I am caught up ;)
Hi everyone! Just made a few updates. Actually, Guinness, I was hoping we could switch off moderating each trimester! Since I'm not suffering from m/s (knock on wood!), I thought I'd volunteer now. But work gets really busy (actually starting today, since my students are back on campus) so I don't think I can do this through until November.
Plus, these threads get long really fast so I had assumed we'd have to start over with each trimester anyway.
QOTD: I haven't told anyone at work yet. My annual review is supposed to be any day now, so I want to wait until after that. Plus, I've been fortunate not to have obvious symptoms (other than bigger BBs) so I don't think I have to tell anyone just yet. We did tell our immediate families (and DH's paternal grandparents0, but that's it so far.
I just tested tonight after I got home from work. I was convinced that I was going to start today and I didn't. Then at lunch I got a whiff of someones lunch and it had me running to the bathroom!
A little bit about myself. Eric and I started dating when we were 15 yrs old!!! Have been together ever since. We are getting married 10/15/06 in the Bahamas!! We have our DD Hally who is 4 yrs old. She has been asking for a baby brother for about a year now. So we decided the timing was perfect for us.
I am going to call my Dr. in the a.m. to see about getting in soon. He will probably put me on prog. since it was a little on the low side my last pg. But he said it was nothing to be concerned about he said since we saw the heartbeat. I ended up m/c 2 days later.
So anyways I am very excited to be joining you ladies!
Sinclair319 Greetings from a fellow prof! We weren't trying at all, so it's just fate that it worked out. I'm technically due at the end of April, so I'm hoping that my school will still let me teach next semester (I'm an adjunct).
Welcome Hally P to the group!!
And since I didn't say it last time...thanks to crazycaro and smiles33 for starting this thread!
I had my appt with my regular doctor yesterday to get a referral. She did order some of the initial tests that the ob/gyn would do and she'll send the results to them. After all that, I realized I actually forgot to get a referral (and YES, that was the point of the appt). So I need to get back or call, get the referral and then finally I can make an appt!
For all the women who are going tests to check thier betas, why are you doing that? Did you have problems in the past? I hope you don't mind me asking, I just don't know what is going on. Especially since I'm not have any tests done.
QOTD Work I don't plan on telling anyone at work until after 12 weeks. I did tell one co-worker that is a close friend. If I end up experiencing bad m/s I may tell my boss, but am hoping to avoid that.
kristin9903 & sinclair319 - my SIL is a teacher and she had her baby in March and loved the timing of that. Although she did have to go back to work for about 3 weeks before the summer, which she said was hard. I wonder if the next baby will be a little later, so she can avoid going back to school?!
Heather Welcome and congrats!
I just got back from my OB appt. Went over all the medical history and got my goodie bag :)...I saw the NP...she is really sweet. She did my exam and said my uterus was way up there and kind of hard to reach. I guess thats good. I totally forgot to ask how my hormone levels were. So after the exam she said, "Well, you are 6 weeks and 1 day so that should be good enough for an u/s...how would you like one?" I practically jumped off the table! I said, "of course"...so she said that I could come back tomorrow for one(the tech isn't there on Wednesdays). Her reasoning was that she just likes to give women peace of mind that there is a baby in there. Plus with my previous m/c she doesn't want me to worry. My husband thinks its because we have really good insurance and they need the business. Whatever! So, I was taking the u/s slip up to the front desk to make the appt. and the box that said "small for dates" was checked. Do you think that was marked just for procedural purposes? I'm all worried now. The appt. is tomorrow at 10 AM. Thanks :)
*crosspost from April 06 moms*
I just came back from appointment number 1. We got a sonogram, and there is indeed a baby in there! The heartrate was 150-160 bpm. I'm a little behind my LMP due date, but I expected that, so please change my due date to 4/29/06. Also, my next appointment is for September 21 at 2:30 where I will be having another sonogram. I'm at high risk for developing hypertension and GD, so the Dr. said he wanted a sonogram virtually every time I came in!
Here's a picture of my little one. I have a cyst to the right of my uterus that's bigger than the kid.
Welcome to all of the new mommies!
Mrs-Mac: When I called the doctor to make my first appointment they asked me if I wanted a blood test to confirm my pregnancy. Once I got there the nurse told me that because I got my BFP so early, my numbers might be low and I may have to go in for a second blood test, fortunately they turned out to be high enough and I didn't have to go in again. I never did get my actual numbers though. Anyways, I think it just depends on how your doctors office handles things and whether you have had previous problems. I have heard a lot of women say they just went in and took a regular pregnancy test.
With all of these ultrasounds things are starting to get exciting in here!
Caroline - So sorry for you loss. Take care of yourself {{{{HUGS}}}
Kristin - Great ultrasound!! So fun that you got to see it. Now I can't wait.
Akachan - come back and share your ultrasound too. I would be jumping off the table too with that exciting news :D
Sinclair - I wasn't on the other site, but lurked a ton. I may have noticed the Guinness owner (I have seen a couple and stole their/your idea :eek:. It is my DH's favorite beverage, and thus a perfect name). Wish naming our child would be so easy.
Date Planning - yes, we planned/hoped for a May due date. I was semi trying the month before, but my perfect plan was May. My last day of classes is May 1st, so it will be perfect if this little one is a week late. Otherwise, I will just have to have someone else proctor the final and I will have to grade. Won't be too bad. Then I have the whole summer before I have to be back into any regular schedule. Of course this is all hoping that I have a smooth pregnancy. Not sure what will happen if bedrest is somehow in my future. We will jump that bridge if it gets here.
Mrs-Mac- I am not getting any betas done that I know of. I know lots of ladies who do if they have an known issues that may complicate things. It is a good way to make sure things are on the right track.
Hally P - Welcome and Congrats. Glad to have you here!!
Sorry if I missed anyone. Better get back to work. Hope you all have a good rest of the day!
Akachan93 – Oh how exciting about being offered an U/S! Maybe having the box checked was done to ensure you could get the U/S.
Like Guiness, we had tried for a few months --but our perfect time plan was May. Even though I work in the corporate world, my MIL is a teacher--and well we hope that she can help out after school ends in June--when I have to go back to work.
Another QOTD: How much maternity leave (and well paternity as well for you partners/husbands/boyfriends/significant others) do you get?
My company offers: 4 weeks prior to the birth, 6 weeks post (8 for caesarean). I think my husband has 1 week of paternity --but honestly, I do not know the details yet for him.
***I just scheduled an appointment with Dr. James thanks to the recommendation I received. So, I will let you all know what happens after Monday morning.***
Bottleored--I'm so sorry and hope you're doing ok.
Will go update some stuff now...sorry I don't have time for a proper shout-out, but weekends are much easier for me.
Quick update: my first appointment last night (which I forgot to mention) was a 2 hour "orientation" where the nurse-practitioner made us watch a movie, walked us through a PowerPoint presentation, and answered questions. After 2 hours (and it actually went over), we then went and had blood drawn (not for BETA testing but all these other tests, including Rh screening and HIV testing) and gave a urine sample. I was pretty disappointed there wasn't an exam or anything more personal. Oh well, that must come next week at my second appointment. :)
Oh Caroline, I am so sorry. Hugs to you.
Welcome to the new girls!
I am still getting over this darn cold. It has taken me 5 hours total to fall asleep the past two nights due to coughing, ugh! Hopefully it will be gone any day now, it is mainly the cough bugging me now, plus just feeling a bit blah from being sick for 5 days. I have no idea how I am feeling pregnancy wise because of the cold!
My little girl has been sick too, fun and games here folks! Misery loves company, I'm misery, she's company. :D
I have my first hospital appt on 19 October, at their pregnancy booking clinic. I should have an ultrasound then, I did with Ruby.
They've already made my booking for my *big* ultrasound! 12 December, I will be 19+ weeks then.
QOTD - related to me having my big ultrasound booked, do you plan to find out the sex?
We will, no way I can wait! We found out with Ruby too.
Crazycaro - I think the angel baby section is great. I did notice that IndianaBride is still in the due date and appointments list. I am sure she would appreciate being removed from those too. Sorry you are feeling sick. Hope you feel better soon!
QOTD: We will not be finding out the sex. It will be a surprise. This was a no brainer for both DH and I. Maybe on the 2nd we will want to know, I am not sure.
Hope everyone has a good day.
QOTD/Maternity leave - Paid: 6 weeks vaginal delivery, 8 weeks csection. Can take up to 12 weeks (total) under FMLA. Last pg I was off 1 week prior (short term disability), 8 weeks after delivery paid and 3 weeks unpaid. No paternity leave for hubby.
QOTD/Finding out the sex - We are planning on finding out this time around (we didn't last time).
Hope everyone is doing well. I had a rough night last night. Dh and I got home and there was a message from my mom on the answering machine. It was a very strange, short, abrupt message. She doesn't normally leave messages like that. I started to worry something was wrong. All these horrible thoughts start going through my mind, car accident, death, those sort of things. I call leave two messages. Then call again and my dad answers. Finally with some prying, he tells me my mom is pretty down and upset that so many people knew about the baby before they did. I proceded to go off on my dad to tell my mom to NEVER leave a message like that again. I was so worried and even called another family member to make sure they hadn't heard anything. Of course with all the hormones, I go from fine to hystically crying in about 1.2 seconds - not fun. I think my eyes are still a little swollen from crying so much. :(
So some background...I'm an only child and this is the first grandchild. DH is one of three boys and this will be the 3rd grandchild. We live about 35 minutes from his family, 2.5 hours from mine. We found out on a friday, told his parents and his one borther and wife (whom we are very close with) on Sunday. We immediately made plan to visit my parents the following weekend. So we told 4 people before them, 5 days before them.
I'm just so upset, angry, annoyed...everything. My mom and I usually have a very good relationship. She isn't too overbearing and has always supported my choices. She has never made me feel guiltly for moving away, not calling or visiting enough. She's normally very low-key (in a good way). I just don't know how to deal with this. Its not what I was expecting. I guess she was acting a little strange this weekend. She didn't seem all that interested in everything. Didn't really ask many questions or even ask how I was doing. I guess it was bothering her at that point already.
Has anyone else had someone rain on thier parade of good news. Please let me know I'm not the only one! :eek:
THanks for letting me vent. I'll do shout outs in another post, because this one is long enough!!
Hello, everyone.
Could I please join the group?
Me: Jen, 28
DH: Al, 37
DS: Gabe, 8 months, born 12.21.04
Married: 10.4.03
TTC: this month :)
BFP: Sept. 7, 2005
EDD (by ovulation): May 17
Not too much for symptoms so far. Tight stomach. A little bit of queasiness. Oh, and I'm still bfing, so we'll see how that goes. I need to call the dr. this afternoon.
bottleored-I'm very sorry. You're in my thoughts.
Welcome to all the new girls!
Let's see...trying to get caught up!
smiles33-Sorry your appointment wasn't more exciting. Next one is bound to be more fun. :)
crazycaro-I hope you and your daughter are feeling better ASAP!
Mrs-Mac-I'm sorry you had such a rough night. Seems like it was pretty out of character for your mom to react like that. All I can say is that becoming a grandparent is such a passionate experience (or so I've been told). Seriously, saying my parents adore my daughters is an understatement. Maybe she's fantasized about the day that her little girl would announce that she was having a baby of her own for so long, and when she wasn't the first to share in the big news she felt as though she was missing out an a mother/daughter experience? I don't know. You can tell me to shut up. :p I'm sure your mom will get over it soon enough and will be nothing but excited to meet her new grandbaby. :)
Jenzen01-Welcome! Looks like your kids will be close in age, too. My first two are 16 months apart. As for breastfeeding, it's totally doable if you'd like to continue. I nursed #1 for the first 3 or so months of my 2nd pregnancy. #2 has been weaned for the past month or so but she pretty much weaned herself. I don't think it had anything to do with the pregnancy as she's going to be 2 next month and I think she was just ready.
QOTD- Not sure if we'll find out the sex. We found out with our first two. My husband really wants to know so that he can get to work on the nursery. I'm kind of on the fence. I do know that I don't have great willpower so most likely we'll try to find out the sex if baby cooperates.
Feeling pretty good. No major morning sickness going on which is a good thing since I was unbelievably sick with my first 2 pregnancies. It's still early though and I don't want to jinx myself. :p
My hormones are defintely onthe wacky side. I've been so emotional. Doesn't help that my oldest baby started preschool today. Where does the time go? How is it possible that she's 3?! Sigh.
Welcome Jenzen01!! I love your son's name!! Its on my list for boys names!
Akachan93 - How was your ultrasound? Hope everything went well!!!
kristin9903 - Love you ultrasound picture!!! I can't wait to have my first one.
Guinness & MrsK - Thanks for the info and explanation. I apprecaite it. And Guinness, I also LOVE Guinness. Sometimes I actually crave it!! I'm sad to give it up for 9 months! ;)
crazycaro - I hope you and your DD are better soon. Being sick is no fun.
Kim - Thanks for the insight. I'm sure you are right. Its just not something I want to deal with right now. But I guess I can try to be a little more understanding with her.
I finally made my first appt with my new ob/gyn (its the same group that delivered my nephew). Its Sept 22nd. Its only two weeks away. I was expecting it to be a longer wait, so I'm happy.
QOTD - maternity leave - I get six weeks paid. They will hold my job for up to 6 months. And they will help find me another job after 18 months. I'm pretty happy with that policy.
QOTD - sex - We aren't going to find out. Feel the same exact way as Guiness!
Hi Ladies!
Just got my BFP a couple of days ago. I have a DD named Lily that was born November 20 6 weeks premature because I had pre-eclampsia. Talked to my new Dr. today and my first appointment is Sept. 29. I had a really rough pregnancy with DD so they will be keeping a good eye on me. We had been trying since she was was released from the NICU at 3 1/2 months old.
We are sooo excited to be pregnant again!!
Me: April (24)
DH: Chris (32)
DD: Lily 9 months old Born November 20
TTC: Feb 05
BFP: Sept. 7EDD: May 18 until we see the Dr.
Be back later on, Im taking Lily on our walk. :)
I hope everyone is having a great day!
Welcome jenzen01 and april1234!
Mrs-Mac: I'm an only child too, so trust me I totally understand. We haven't told my parents yet mainly because I'm afraid my mom will worry too much. I love her to death, but sometimes...
crazycaro: Hope you feel better. Colds are no fun!
smiles33: I have a feeling my first apt will be the same. I don't know why but I laughed thinking of you watching that powerpoint presentation. Was it at least informative?
nettreefrog: Good luck with your blood test!
QOTD Maternity Leave: I'm lucky enough to get 12 weeks. DH though I'm not so sure.
QOTD Sex: Although I wouldn't mind finding out the sex of our baby, DH wants to be surprised. So a surprise it will be!
Hello Girls,
I love the new thread- thanks for starting it.
I had a bit of a scare Tuesday night. During my bedtime routine I found out I had started spotting. It was bright red and of course scared me pretty badly. I called my Dr and his response was that there was really nothing that could be done. If it got heavier he told me to come in and they would do blood tests (to see if I had m/c). Luckily by Wed morning it was brown spotting and now it has stopped. I had absolutely no spotting with our first daughter so it had me a bit worried.
QOTD/Maternity Leave- I work for the gov't so I get 12 weeks FMLA. Of course that is using whatever leave I have saved up- we don't get any paid time off. My DH owns his own company so no time off for him. With my DD he went back to work the day I came home from the hospital.
QOTD/Sex- Nope, we are not finding out this time either!
Oh, my first Dr appt is Sept.26th
Thanks for the welcome, everyone.
Also, it's good to see other new moms in here ... if I hear anyone else tell me, "Wow, they're going to be really close together." I'm going to scream. DH's mom wasn't that positive when I talked to her last night. The daycare director (yes, I already put our name on the list because we only have one daycare in town) thinks I'm nuts. How about this: Just be happy for me!
Sorry for the rant ...
Boy/Girl - We'll be finding out. We really enjoyed knowing we were having a boy the last time around. I'll always remember the moment the technician told us what we were having. I cried.
Maternity leave - 6 weeks paid plus 6 weeks unpaid. I can use up vacation/personal during the unpaid portion. Guess who's going to be hoarding her vacation days. :)
Oh, first dr. appointment is Sept. 29
Welcome to the new members! This place is packed! Must've been a fun August, huh??
missy329 sorry about your scare. I'm glad it all worked out. I've certainly read that spotting is very common in early pg. Knowing what a basketcase I am, DH even read the passage to me from his "what to expect book."
QOTD/maternity I am a contractor, so I don't get paid maternity. I'm fortunate enough to stop working after month 7 anyway, so it doesn't really matter. DH started a co. with a friend (who's single) and the friend insisted they offer paternity leave. I don't know how long it is, but really can't see DH taking more than a couple of days off, though he'll probably cut back on the 12+ hour days he works now.
QOTD/sex hmmm...this is the great debate in the Bloomwood household. Type A planner (aka me) wants to find out, but DH likes the surprise. I like the idea of the surprise, but really want to know. I think now that it is a reality, DH might be caving to curiosity too. We'll see...
We're both pretty cautious right now since I had a m/c last month, so we're not really talking about that or names or anything until we feel more confident - after the first tri, I guess.
=======================
I'm just back from my third blood draw. I should get my results back tomorrow am. Hopefully good news that I am still doubling with healthy progesterone!
Hope everyone is feeling great today and keeping m/s at bay!
Bottleored --I remember you from the charting thread. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, you'll be in my thoughts.
I got updated betas today and the numbers are more than doubling!!!! My progestrone also looks good. I'll go back 9/20 for an ultrasound and hopefully see the heartbeat
Someone asked about betas--we tried for a year, but I have PCOS and we knew our chances were truly slim to none on our own. We did a cycle of meds (pills and shots) with an IUI (artifical insemination). Our NP likes to do bloodwork 2 weeks after IUI because sometimes hpts don't pick up a positive (I got a neg hpt on a Wed and positive beta on Friday. If you haven't had problems with getting pregnant, some doctors won't even see patients until at least 8 weeks.
Maternity- we don't get any paid time off, but I'll have over 12 weeks of sick/vacation time and plan to use all of it!
Gender We'll find out, I'm too nosey to not know! ;-)
Welcome Jenzen01 and April1234!
missy329 Glad to hear the spotting stopped!
I know it must have been scary for you...so sorry you had to go through that.
nettreefrog Actually, the cysts (there were many others) just proved that I have PCOS. We thought as much, but I never went through diagnostics since we weren't TTC. They shouldn't be a problem for the kiddo.
Good luck to everyone with upcoming appointments!
Missy I'm glad the spotting stopped, that must of been so scary
crazycaro I hope you and DD feel better soon!
smiles Sounds like a long appt.! Its funny how it seems that everyone's 1st OB appt.'s are different.
Mrs-Mac Sorry you had such a rough night. I know my dad will be upset like that if he finds out that he will be the last to know. I haven't told him yet b/c he has a very big mouth and my brother lives with him and the two of them will tell the whole state in minutes! I'm just not ready to tell them yet.
Well, I had my u/s this morning and all is well. I actually saw the baby!! He/She looked like a lima bean! I even saw the h/b...it was 125 bpm. I'm measuring right at 6 weeks. Its amazing how technology will allow us to see this early. I'm bummed though because they didn't give me any pictures to take home. Oh well, I'll have another in October.
Maternity I get 6 weeks paid for a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for C/S. I want to take another 6 of unpaid under FMLA. I only took 6 with Charlie and I regret it. I am the type of person who feels bad leaving work...I know, lame. We are a small office and there won't be a replacement for me, so the others will have to do my work. I plan to tell my boss soon so they can plan.
Sex Yes! We are definitely finding out...there is no question, I'm just the type that can't wait!
Finding out the sex YES!!!! I can't wait!
Good morning. Well I think m/s has officially hit me. I felt awful all day yesterday and today doesn't seem to be starting any better. I haven't actually gotten sick, so hopefully that doesn't come too.
My 1st appointment is in 2 weeks :D I can't wait. I am ready to tell everyone, but would like to wait to make sure it is really in there. DH was funny last night. I went to sleep around 8pm :eek: , he came in around 11. I rolled over to say good night. He felt my back and was like are you okay? You are steaming hot. I said 'I am pregnant' ;) . So fun to watch it continue to sink in for him.
Maternity leave - I haven't answered this because I am not really sure how it applies to me. I am on a 9 month contract (college professor) and I know I get FMLA if I need it. I also have tons of sick and vacation, but we don't report that to anyone, so it is weird - I gain it but never pull from it. So I don't think I will need to officially do either, but I will find out when I tell my department chair. I do know that I can stop my tenure clock for 1 year and so I will probably do that. I can always go up early if I feel I am ready.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Take care of yourselves!
Guiness-Hope the morning sickness is fast and fleeting!
missy329-I'm sorry about your scare. Glad the spotting stopped!
Just got a call from my doctor with my blood work results. My hCG was 800 at 18 DPO, I believe. Doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot since we didn't do a beta series. However, it is a good sign that we saw a gestational sac that day since one should be visible when your hCG level reaches 1,000. My TSH levels are great (1.9) wich means that my medication doesn't need to be adjusted at the moment.
I'm immune to MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella (chicken pox). I'm NOT immune to toxoplasmosis or parvovirus (Fifth Disease). Fifths Disease scares me a bit since DD just started preschool and it's one of those common childhood illnesses that spreads through schools like wildfire. I'm praying that they don't have an outbreak.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Kim- Glad your levels seem good. I was not immune to something last time around, I can't remember what it was. But I too was a little worried about catching something.
Guiness- Husbands are funny aren't they! My husband works nights so I am home alone at night with my DD. She has been sick and has been waking up every 2 hours. So, today I called him from work and mentioned that I was so tired. He says- I don't know why getting up with DD has made you so tired this time. I was like- maybe because I am pregnant?!
Well, morning sickness has also hit me. It started last weekend. I was hoping to avoid it this time around. But, I am just yucky nauseous all day long. The only good thing is that I have lost 7 pounds since last Saturday.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Well I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm certainly looking forward to having a few days off. We're going to a football game tomorrow and then Sunday, for the first time in months we have nothing planned. I have spent part of today planning my DH's surprise 30th B-Day party. It's not going to be unitl October 15th, but everthing is coming together so nicely!
Akachan93: How exciting! Go lima bean go!
Sinclair319: Go betas go!
missy329 & Guinness: I hope your morning sickness subsides long enough for you both to have a good weekend.
I'm a little nervous because 1) this is my first PG and I'm in overactive imagination m/c fear mode; 2) we aren't telling family or friends yet so I don't want my "online" life and "real" life to crossover too much...yet! So forgive me if I leave out some personal info...just for now; 3) I'm new to CC (this is my very first post!)
Good for you for getting your 2nd MS. That should land you a faculty at a community college no problem. I am at an R1 institute so PhDs are required. I do feel very fortunate to have found a good tenure-track position as I know many who are doing similar things as Kristin. It is hard to find positions especially if you have geographical constraints!
Welcome Sneezy !
I got my beta results back today. I'm feeling pretty good about this so far. Here is the whole series:
10DPO - 18hcg/23.2 progesterone
16DPO - 514 hcg/30.3 progesterone (1.29 days doubling time)
23DPO - 15,203 hcg/25.8 progesterone (1.43 days doubling time)
I'm really impressed with my doctor. Mainly because I've never met her or spoken with her. I called them the day I got my first BFP to schedule an u/s and then called them the day I had my m/c to find out what to do. They sent me in for bloodwork and then called back to confirm I was no longer pregnant. When I got my 2nd BFP (only 25 days later!), they sent me for bloodwork immediately and prescribed me progesterone supplements to start taking that day even though it wouldn't be until after the weekend that I got my test results back. They have subsequently sent me for 2 more blood draws. I just think it is so impressive to be taking such precautions with me even though I'm not an established patient. Today they told me I didn't need to have any more blood work done and I'd just see them on the 22nd for my u/s. Though that is good news, I have kinda liked having this weekly reassurance that I am progressing. I can't wait to meet them.
Hope everyone has a sticky weekend!
Welcome Sneezy!
Thanks for being so on top of things, Guinness! Sorry to see crazycaro step down, but it's understandable. We really could use 1 more volunteer to help us update the thread.... Pretty please? :)
I have gained almost 4 pounds now, as I havne't experience real m/s (just some occasional waves of nausea for few seconds here and there *knock on wood*) and I get hungry every few hours. I'm mostly eating fruit, yogurt, and almonds as my snacks, but I've also "splurged" on lots of pasta and cheese (I LOVE cheese). It's already caused my waist to "pudge" a bit.
So, I was pleased to see my Bella Band works. I ordered it earlier this week after reading about it, but I have to say that it's not as comfortable as I hoped. When you sit for too long, it feels a bit binding. I had to pull it up all the way under my BBs, because it's too tight when it's folded over. For the record, I was a pre-PG size 8 but still ordered the Bella Band size 2 (for sizes 10+) because I was afraid of it being too tight.
And I wonder when the fatigue goes away. I'm still REALLY sleepy/tired a lot. I had to fly down to San Diego for a conference yesterday and fly back up later the same day, and just about fell into bed about 8:30 pm and slept ALL the way until my alarm went off at 6.
Hope you all enjoy the weekend!
ETA: The website that sold me the Bella Band also included an insert that claims to tell gender with a blood sample after just 5 weeks past conception. Anyone heard of this before? Is that a scam?
Akachan93
09-09-2005, 09:14 PM
Smiles I've heard of finding out the gender at 5 weeks also. Our local news did a segment on it. Its not a scam and it really works...its expensive though, I think its $300. I think its some kind of special blood test...not sure exactly.
$300?!?!? That's INSANE!
OK, so it's a slow Friday night (DH left for a 3 day fishing weekend).
How about a new QOTD?
What do you call your DC? Any nicknames yet?
We call ours Baby J, since the 2 names we're considering for either a boy or girl are both names that start with a J (Jocelyn and Jason).
Hi all! Just checkin' in to say hello :) Sorry I don't get to post much here, but I am insanely tired... I think it's mostly the pregnancy, but chasing around a 2yo and working almost full time at night isn't helping me get rest.
Anyway...
QOTD: No names yet. DS just calls it Mommy's Baby Belly.
Here's another question for y'all: anyone else having more vivid dreams than usual? I feel like I must have a dozen dreams a night now and they're usually very vivid. They wake me up at least 4 or 5 times a night. It's driving me nuts! Two nights ago the dreams for very sexual in nature. Last night I was having very bloody nightmares. Ugh. I just want a good night's sleep! Anyone else?
smiles I can help out! Just keep in mind I'll probably be out of commission once May rolls around since I'm the first one due. That gender test is real, it looks at fragments of chromosomes in mommy's blood. If they find some Y chromosomes, it's a boy! I'm excited about the surprise factor at the big u/s, so I wouldn't do it. Besides, $300 can buy a whole lot of baby stuff!
Welcome and congrats to Sneezy!!
Sinclair319 Ugh, I know. Prior to DH, I was going to go to New England, where there is tons of work. We got married, and decided to put his career ahead of mine ( I don't LOVE ag...it's just a means to an end. He LOVES being a vet). So, here I am. It's cool, though, because I've decided to become a RN, which is something I'm actually passionate about.
Great betas, Bloomwood!!
----------
As for me, m/s has hit. I was trying to deny it, but my evening snack made a repeat appearance last night. Gross. Seems like my nausea usually happens at night.
QOTD1 DH and I are both huge nerds, so we call this kid any variety of scientific veterinary terms. It's dumb and not all that cute. I wish I could get "peanut" or something like that to stick, but it inevitably goes back to the dork in us. This kid's going to hate us. :)
QOTD2 I'm so embarrassed to admit it, but I haven't had dreams like this since I was a teenager. All sex, all the time. And random, too. Once, it was with Phil Margera (anyone watch Viva La Bam or Celebrity Fit Club). I was mortified....of all the pretty boys on tv my subconscious zeroes in on Phil. Yikes.
Thanks so much, Kristin! I just PM'ed you the password. As I said earlier, I'm hoping the 3 of us only need to moderate for the first trimester so 3 new volunteers can take over later, especially since we're all due in early May anyway.
And I'm sorry to hear the m/s has hit you, Kristin! :( I'm still praying I won't get it....though it might help me stop gaining weight. Since I don't have it, I've been hungry and eating every couple hours (though I try to stick to fruit or almonds for snacks).
I spent the day with a girlfriend who has a 2 year old and doesn't want any more kids, so she gave me 4 pairs of maternity pants. Free clothes, hooray! Then we went to Old Navy and I bought 2 long maternity shirts (to help cover up the bella band) and some maternity underwear. I know it's early, but it was on sale.
Hope everyone else is having a good day!
Good Morning! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I think things are finally starting to sink in for me. 2 more weeks until my appointment - I can't wait!
QOTD 1 - we haven't started calling the bean anything. Perhaps after we see it at the 1st appointment. In my head I call it baby bean
QOTD 2 - definitely having dreams, but no wet dreams ;) Lots of pregnancy dreams the last couple of nights. Dreams of names, and telling people. I think that is making it more real for us.
Anyone else been sleeping a ton? I was so proud of myself last night as it was the first time in a few days that I stayed up past 10pm (I did take a 2 hour nap though). I just can't get enough sleep!!
Thanks Kristin for helping moderate!
Add me to the list of those with morning sickness. :( It's been hard to tell what's been going on because of my cold, but that's really on its way out now and I am still being sick of a morning and feeling icky for most of the day, morning sickness sucks!
I barely have an appetite, I know I have lost weight, but food just sounds disgusting to me!
I'm starting to panic about what I have gotten myself in for, with a 16 month old and a second baby on the way. Am I insane??? Ruby came at 31 weeks, and I am worried about this one coming early (I have a unicornuate uterus and my babies run out of room). How are we going to cope if I have to go on bedrest? How are we going to manage if this baby does come early? How will life be with one toddler here at home and one newborn in hospital? We don't have a big support network (Mum is basically it because DH's family lives in another state!) - I am starting to get myself all kinds of freaked out. I'm worried Ruby is going to feel all left out and pushed aside.
Need to stop panicking.
Awww, Caroline, it will be just fine. Our little one is unplanned, and although it pales in comparison to what you're dealing with, I have little freak outs about it myself. I think you'll amaze yourself with what you can do. :)
And now, a friendly PSA for all the preggos in here. DO NOT watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I just spent 2 hours crying. Not just a couple of tears, either. Sobbing the whole way through. I should've known better.
Caroline, OMG I could have written your exact post!! Lily is 9 months old and will be 18 months when #2 comes and she was born 6 weeks early because I had pre-eclampsia (was on bed rest for 4 weeks prior to her coming) and she ended up having to stay in the NICU for 3 1/2 MONTHS!
I petrified of all that you mentioned. We do have a pretty go suppourt group here as all of our families live here but I dont count DHs family because they werent even there for us when Lil was born. But thats another story. :rolleyes:
Im sure that our babies will be fine. I am trying to take really good car this time and walk 3 miles EVERYDAY and eat well. NO SALT has been eaten since I got my first BFP. LOL
We can freak out together for nine months. :D
Moring Ladies,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Mine was pretty relaxing. No plans, just spent the weekend at home. I'm feeling pretty good. My bbs are killing me. I've experienced a little nausea, but nothing too bad. Otherwise, I'm feeling decent.
Thanks for all of the kind words about my mom. We did talk and everything is fine now. Apparently, she did feel like she should have been told first. I'm still kind of annoyed over the situation (and her acting like a 3 year old), but what can I do? She's now over it and so excited about the baby.
QOTD - nickname - We call the baby "Button". It just came to me. Thought it was fun because it fits for all different phases of the pregnancy. Right now its little (like a button), soon I won't be able to button my pants, and who knows, maybe my belly button with pop out!
QOTD - Dreams - I have always had lots of dreams and remember them vividly. I haven't really noticed anything different up to this point.
I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing as well as can be expected (sorry to all those ladies with m/s).
Good morning, all.
Feeling sort of icky this morning, which I hope is good because I haven't felt very preggo otherwise. My legs are shaky and I'm tired. Trying to eat something in hopes that will make me feel better.
crazycaro - I'm right there with you on the panicking. DS will be 17 months old when this one comes. I'm very excited, but at the same time, scared of the unknown. We'll get through it together. :)
Ugh. Yesterday, Gabe was up all afternoon without a nap. When he finally went down, I tried to take a nap. Just as I was falling asleep, he woke up again. 30-minute naps are bad, bad, bad ...
Morning all--the m/s is still at bay for me, I'm hoping it stays that way! Someone else said, "I wish my thumb would turn purple or something just to reassure me that I'm still pregnant!" That's *exactly* how I feel.
New QOTD --What gender do you think it is? When I think of our bean, I keep thinking girl, maybe that's because DH and I want a boy.
QOTD, Part 2 --Will you find out the gender?
crazycaro - Yep, mine will be 16 months if I make it to my due date. Yikes!
M/S - Just one day of it so far (I had fell-fledged M/S last time by 6 weeks)
Dreams - Yep! I remember this vividly from last time too.
A quick drive by post before I have to feed my kids lunch...
Just got back from the doctor. We got a heartbeat! Very happy. :)
Dreams Yes, pretty vivid, infact they started about 6 or 7dpo and they were one of my first pg signs.
Kim congrats on the u/s!
April, Caroline, Jen & Marchfamily My DS will be 2 years and 3 months if I go to my due date...He is 19 mos. now and he is all over the place, climbing, running, etc. He does play better by himself now so that may make you guys feel better by the time baby comes :)
kristin9903, I'm glad I'm not the only one having dreams like that! And what really stinks is that it makes me wake up 4 or 5 times a night. Like I need to be more tired! (And I had to look up who Phil Margera is :) Too funny! I've actually met Bam - he's shopped in the store where I work - but I couldn't picture Phil)
Kim, congrats on the ultrasound!
QOTD1: my gut instinct tells me girl, but that's what I thought for the first one, too ;)
QOTD2: not sure if we'll find out the sex before birth or not. DH is in favor of finding out at an ultrasound, and I was all for that for a while, but now I'm not so sure. I'll probably continue to waffle for a long time.
Kim What a cute picture!!! Congrats on the heartbeat! :)
QOTD1 Like Sinclair, both DH and I would love a little boy. Therefore, it has to be a girl.
QOTD2 As soon as they can tell, I want to know!
---
So, I had another dream last night. At least this one had nothing to do with adult matters. I dreamt that I gave birth and DH was so excited! He was excited because we became the proud parents of a chimpanzee. What is wrong with me???
Thanks everyone for the congrats!
QOTD 1-No feeling either way. I really wanted a baby girl when I was pregnant with #1. Since I already have my little girl(s), I really don't have a preference. I'll be totally happy with a son or a daughter (not that I wouldn't have been happy with a son the first time around...you know what I mean). :p
QOTD 2-I was leaning towards not finding out the sex at our u/s but I'm starting to get reeeeeaaaallly anxious. I have a feeling DH will get his way and we'll find out if baby cooperates.
kristin9903-Aren't pregnancy dreams the weirdest?
Akachan93-Sorry about the morning sickenss. :( That's no fun.
Sinclair319 "I wish my thumb would turn purple or something just to reassure me that I'm still pregnant!" That's *exactly* how I feel.
ITA! I've had very little morning sickness this time around. It's really hard to believe that I'm pregnant!
Mrs-Mac "She's now over it and so excited about the baby."
Yay! Glad to hear that! :)
I hope everyone had a great weekend and is doing well. I've been feeling a little icky lately, but I'm not sure if it is pregnancy related or not.
QOTD/Nickname: We don't have anything offical yet. Sometimes I can it "The Bean".
QOTD/Dreams: Yes. I think this was one of my first symptoms, but I didn't know it at the time. Last night I had a dream that I was arguing with my doctor. DH and I are planning to go to Hawaii in Jan/Feb and he was telling me I couldn't go. I got really mad and told the doctor I was going anyway. LOL.
QOTD/Gender: I don't know why, but in my mind I have been referring to it as a girl. Mother's intuition or wishful thinking?
QOTD/Sex: DH wants it to be a surprise, so while I wouldn't mind finding out it will probably be a surprise.
Hello girls!
I think I had my first taste of m/s today. Kinda an icky feeling and couldn't get my cereal down. While I am not that psyched for m/s, like some others said, I will take anything that makes it feel more real! Since I don't get anymore blood drawn, I am now counting down until the u/s a week from Thursday. yay!
QOTD/Nickname: haven't come up with anything yet. Still apprehensive, I guess.
QOTD/Dreams: Totally. The other night I actually had an "o" (the fun kind) in my sleep. Not too bad. :rolleyes: Usually they're just really vivid random dreams.
QOTD/Gender: I would love a little girl, so that is what I think it is. Plus I did this Chinese Gender Predictor (http://www.chineseastrologyonline.com/PredictSex.htm) and it said girl. :D
QOTD/Sex: I want to, J doesn't. I guess we'll deal with it when we have to.
Wow great ultrasound Kim!!
I can't believe how many of you are having your 2nd with a young one running around. You will all do great. I think we surprise ourselves on what we are able to handle. You will find a routine that works for your family, it will just take a bit of time and a lot of patience ;)
I don't really know if I have answered QOTDs:
#1 Gender - both DH and I think BOY. I was actually talking to a friend today and he/him kept coming out. We'll see.
#2 Sex - We won't be finding out. I am excited about my green and yellow nursery :p
m/s is still here for me. I can't believe how different things taste and how absolutely picky I have become in the last week. I have this perpetual bad taste in my mouth and I can't handle gum to make it subside. I bought jolly ranchers hoping that would help a little. Anyone else having crazy taste differences/food aversions? It is unbelievable to me how fast they came!
glad to be here, i just hope i didnt join to soon. we, as you can see, have been trying for a very long time, it has been a long and painful road to get here. after many u/s,bw, surgerys, seman analysis, and 3 inseminations, it worked, we are 5w pregnant and are so happy.
we have only told family, close family. no friends now, and only a few people at my work know. we are waiting atleast 3-4 more weeks to tell our friends. we went to the doctors this morning, everything was perfect, we may have 2 sacs, but wont know for sure till next monday, our next appointment. twins would be wonderful considering how hard we have tried, but 1 is just fine for now! my Bro and SIL are having twins due in March, so we dont need 2 sets of twins running around.
anyway, glad to be here.
back to QOTD's: yes, i have only bought 1 thing for the baby, a diaper bag. no we arent going to find out the sex. names, we are just calling each other mommy and daddy. no name for the baby yet. and vivid dreams, yes. i normally dont remember my dreams so this is very strange.
Welcome and congrats to kmfroggi!!!
I've lurked around on some of the other mommy threads and found Madame Zaritska! It's cute!
So, my new QOTD is what does Madame Zaritska predict for you?
http://www.pregnancyandbaby.com/read/articles/736.htm
Here's mine:
The day you deliver, outside will be hot. Your baby will arrive in the afternoon.
After a labor lasting approximately 3 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 7 pounds, 14 ounces, and will be 18 1/2 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and some very fine hair.
Ooo ooo, I have been looking all over for stuff like Madame Zaritska :-)
QOTD Madame Zaritska:
The day you deliver, outside will be hazy. Your baby will arrive in the early evening.
After a labor lasting approximately 20 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and some blond hair.
Every predictor tells me it is going to be a girl, and I am so sure it is a boy . . . hmmm
Here is DHs too (he wanted to play):-) He is laughing at the labor time differences -- :rolleyes:
The day you deliver, outside will be sunny. Your baby will arrive in wee hours of the morning .
After a labor lasting approximately 2 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and will be 18 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and some very fine hair.
Welcome kmfroggi! Sticky Vibes to you.
kmfroggi-Congratulations and welcome!
Guiness-It was pretty neat!
QOTD Madame Zaritska :
The day you deliver, outside will be hazy. Your baby will arrive in wee hours of the morning .
After a labor lasting approximately 10 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and dark hair.
Anyone up for another? QOTD What does this Chinese Gender Predictor (http://www.chineseastrologyonline.com/PredictSex.htm), that Bloomwood posted, say for you? This one is different than some of the others. It got both of my kids' genders right, as well as myself and my 5 brothers and sisters. I thought that was pretty interesting since most of the others say my DD #2 should have been a boy and they've been off with my siblings,too.
This one says boy for me. I'm taking it with a grain of salt. ;)
"I think we surprise ourselves on what we are able to handle. You will find a routine that works for your family, it will just take a bit of time and a lot of patience. "
So true! Trust me. If it was that bad DH and I wouln't have tried for #3 so soon. I have to tell you, having my girls 16 months apart was a cinch in the beginning. It wasn't until my oldest reached 2 years or so that it became more difficult. Once she was about 2 1/2 it was much simpler again. :)
Welcome to all the new BFP mommies! Sorry I haven't posted for a while, but the last few weeks have been a bit rocky with m/s and fatigue. My husband was chosen with others from his department to provide rescue and aid to Hurricane Katrina victims and flew out this weekend. We're sad he'll be missing our first prenatal appointment but the odd thing is since he left, my tummy is feeling worlds better. Sure enough, it would be like him to give that to me as a departing gift! If I have endured the worst of it, I'll consider myself a very happy camper. So with those things in mind, I hope to be online more often now. :)
Sinclair319, I was on the other board and have a dog named Guinness. Not sure if we ever visited each other's journals? But I'm certainly one of the infamous owners!
Kim, what a beautiful sonogram image! Congratulations sweetie!
QOTD/Nickname: Nothing yet really except for Little One. I'm sure there will be a more concrete nickname as I move into the 2nd trimester.
QOTD/Dreams: Nothing out of the ordinary except for a nap today, but then again my dreams tend to be pretty weird on their own. Ahem, the one from my nap involved eating LOTS and LOTS of food. LOL. I was quite confused when I woke up because that's been far from reality.
QOTD/Gender: Again, nothing's really be poking at me yet.
QOTD/Sex: We're definitely going to find out :), as waiting is not for us.
After a labor lasting approximately 21 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and some very fine hair.
Hope everyone is doing well. All I have to say is, Holy Morning Sickness Batman! I have been so sick this time around. I thought my last pg was bad with 7 months of morning sickness. This time is 10x worse. I am seriously thinking of calling my Dr to see if there is anything he can prescribe. UGH...20+ hours a day of nausea.
I too am getting a bit worried about having two babies that are 24 months apart. But, it will work out somehow- it has to! My DH works nights and watches our DD during the day. Then I get home from work and we have dinner together and then he heads off to work. So, I have evenings and all the middle of the night wakings. It works out pretty well for us except that we hardly ever see each other!
Ok, enough complaining! Let's answer some QOTD's:
QOTD/Nicknames: We have been calling this baby Peanut. My DD was Butter Bean!
QOTD/Dreams: I have been able to recall my dreams better but nothing any weirder than normal.
QOTD/Gender: No feeling one way or another. I really, really, really wanted a girls last time. So, now I would be happy with either. Of course a boy would be nice to balance everything out.
QOTD/Finding out Sex: Nope, not gonna do it! :)
QOTD/ Madame Zariska: Sunny outside, deliver in the evening (scheduled c/s- probably at 8 am) 19 hour labor (I am having a c/s), 7lbs 3 oz, 20 1/2 inches long, green eyes (no hope of that) and some very fine hair. Oh, and it's a girl! Silly stuff :rolleyes:
I guess that catches me back up. Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday!
I hate the fact that the obgyn here makes me wait until at least 8 weeks to see me. I go see the woman who will review the rules of staying healthy during pregnancy on September 27, and I don't get to see the doctors until Oct. 24. They wanted to give me a 6:30 appointment on Halloween, but then she said, "Well, that won't work if you have a little one already." Good thinking! Anyway...just wanted to say congrats to all of you and introduce myself.
Thanks for the welcome! Woo hoo another new person today also!
Welcome jarm. It's funny that you say you hate that they are making you wait so long to see the dr...I am actually thinking "I wish they weren't so eager to have me come in!" For my DD, I didn't come in for a blood test; they trusted the HPT. But for this one they want to see me. Since I'm going out of town, it won't be till the beginning of October anyway though...and that's just a technician. Then I have to come back a week later to see the NP. Then I guess I see the OB the following month or something. I have switched to a new practice because the dr and the hospital, are a bit closer to my house - my friend recommended this doctor but I don't really know much about her so hopefully all will be well!
shortcake - We do have to go in, but that's just to meet with their...I don't remember what they call her. Basically she goes over the stuff you can/can't do when pg and you get a goody bag and then you get your paperwork for the testing. They had me go for testing with my DD. I'm actually glad that I'm going into to get the "lecture" because things change so what was acceptable last time I'm sure will be off the list this time...make sense?
Dreams - I have had the most vivid dreams. Crazy dreams! I don't remember having these bizarre dreams this early on with my DD.
Arlyn's announcing...
My DD is obsessed with Dora (those who don't know her already will probably get to know her soon enough). Dora is a big sister now. That episode was on last week, and she told her sitter that she was going to be a big sister. She of course asked DH and he said that she shouldn't believe everything she hears. This was before I got the BFP. She tells people who'll listen that she's going to be a big sister, and we haven't even really discussed it with her. I have a silly girl!
Welcome Shortcake and jarm!!
The whole appointment thing is very weird. I called mine and they didn't want to see me until 8 weeks either. I thought it was weird however that there is no orientation info (what I should or shouldn't be doing). I would have a least liked that. Somedays I think I should have called somewhere else (this is a new dr. for me), but it is now a week and a half away, so I probably won't get in anywhere that soon. Plus they will do an ultrasound, so I did delay it until my DH could be there. Anyway, can't wait for the appointment to come so this is real. Right now I wonder if the morning sickness is just in my head :rolleyes:
Welcome kmfroggi, shortcake and jarm!
Missy, my m/s is icky too, I am seeing my doctor tomorrow because I have decided I am not putting up with it this pregnancy so am asking for some nausea meds. Last time I soldiered through it but it is just different this time looking after a toddler at home. I am not functioning well so hopefully meds will help. My m/s eased off around 11 weeks last time, hopefully the same thing happens this time. I couldn't handle 7 months of it like you did.
I think I am having a boy, but I thought that last time and it was a girl. :) Both those gender prediction sites says girl for this one.
I am down over 5 pounds in a week and a half, I just cannot stomach much food and throw up every morning. I hate this rough part of pregnancy - I just have to remember it does get easier! I wish I could press fast forward!
Congrats to our new members kmfroggi, shortcake and jarm :D.
Reading your post Guinness made me feel a whole lot better about my first appointment later this month. I too feel in the dark about what to expect and dos/don'ts. I know there are a handful of appointments coming up, would you guys mind updating us on what took place and how they went for you? I'd love if you did that!
crazycaro and anyone else getting hit hard with m/s, you're all in my thoughts. *hugs* You guys are awesome mommies to those toddlers, take care of yourselves!
Hi ladies,
Sorry to join and vanish--but DH and I went out of town until last night. Anyway, thanks for the welcomes, and welcome to the other new May moms to be!
So part of me does not feel pregnant at all (what DOES being pregnant feel like I wonder?). I have not thrown up, no funky cravings, etc. My skin is breaking out, but that could be b/c I stopped using my hardcore face stuff as soon as I got BFP. I'm tired, but that could be stress. I am having trouble focusing at work, but that could be b/c I'm carrying around this huge secret and feel impatient!
Then again, periodically I've been feeling a little light-headed sort of combined with feeling like my heart is beating too fast. Is that a form of morning sickness? It almost feels like being nauseated but knowing I won't actually throw up. Anyone have that?
Then today I woke up with a REALLY sore throat and I don't know if I'm getting sick or if it was from the airplane air this weekend. I still have it, and nothing tastes good or makes it feel better.
So, is this feeling pregnant, or totally coincidental? Hmmm!!!! So many questions, and I know so little still... at least I am going to my first appointment on Thurs. I cannot WAIT--even if it's just to get some confirmation and assurance!
Anyway, getting sleepy and realize I should probably go unpack from trip and not leave luggage for DH to trip on any longer! Hope everyone is well and I'll check in tomorrow...
Just a little FYI for all those new moms to be (and moms already who might not know), they say (and I found it to be true when I was pg with DD) that your body creates extra mucous when you're pregnant, so colds, sinus headaches, etc., tend to be a constant thing to have while pregnant. It sucks, but look at the outcome.
sneezy - I've been getting lightheaded as well. I think it has to do with being pg. Everything else you've described does sound like the great "symptoms" of being pg!!!
Question - Does anyone else have this incredible desire to eat, eat, eat? I don't mean eat non-stop, but I noticed tonight that I'm getting hungry about two hours after I eat. I ate breakfast, I was hungry at snacktime so I ate with the kids. I ate lunch (I actually was good here...it was hot in my classroom and I was really dehydrated) and then ate dinner. I ate a smaller dinner (which could contribute to it), but I was starving at 9:30 and just as I was about to get up to get a snack, the phone rang. I talked for a few minutes, hung up and was about to get up and get a snack when the phone rang again...it was crazy here tonight. I finally got a snack, but I'm still really hungry!
I suppose I should climb into bed only to have yet another restless night with bizarre dreams (that sometimes seem so life-like).
Hi all! I just got back from visiting my 5-hour old nephew at the hospital! Seeing one that little again is making me so excited... and NERVOUS! Yikes! What have I gotten myself into? But I'm really looking forward to my first OB appt on Thursday. I really want to get to know the Dr. and Midwives that I took a long time to choose. So far, I love them and I hope all goes really well because I'd like to attempt VBAC.
Anyway, sorry to hear about all the m/s going around!! I've been having some too, but mostly when I either don't eat enough (like you, jarm, I seem to be hungry every 2 hours), or when I eat too much. I think I'm going to have to start eating tiny portions more often. For those who are suffering, with my last pregnancy, watered-down gatorade and ginger snaps worked wonders!
jarm, love the story about your DD announcing your pregnancy :) My DS spilled the beans too. Last week my brother asked DS who was going to have a baby expecting DS to say my SIL, but he answered 'Mommy has a baby in her belly!' We weren't ready to tell the family so soon, but since it came from him, we were really excited to share the news :)
Welcome to Jarm and Shortcake!!
Dr.'s Appt I had my first one last week. I had to pee in a cup for an HPT and then was taken into the u/s room. My doctor came in, asked me how I was feeling, and gave me the overview of how he likes to see his appointments. He sees his OB patients once every couple of weeks in the beginning to make sure things are progressing, then he backs down to once a month until the 3rd trimester. He also told me how much weight he would be comfortable with me gaining, gave me a list of suitable drugs during pg, talked about my medical history and both DH's and my genetic history. He then told me that due to my being overweight and having a strong family history of high blood pressure, blood clots, and diabetes, that I would be considered a high risk pregnancy and would need sonograms virtually every time I came in to make sure all is right with baby and me. Then, it was time for the u/s. While down there, he did a culture for STD's and Strep B. I didn't get a pap because I had one only a few months ago. He did the u/s, found a heartbeat for our little one and measured all the cysts on my ovaries to make sure that they weren't too big. Then I had my blood drawn for an OB panel, thyroid hormone levels, HIV test, and Cystic Fibrosis screening. I'll be going back next week for another sonogram and to make sure my body's dealing with this pregnancy well.
QOTD - Food I have days where I'm nauseaus all day (yesterday, I had an empty tummy and still managed to throw up). I have days where I feel just great, which is nice but slightly unnerving. No weird cravings, although I do have a fondness for buffalo chicken. I also created the best snack ever: a sliced up green apple, with peanut butter and grape nuts. Hmmm...maybe that's kind of weird.
Jarm and lmg Cute stories about your kids telling people about the new baby! :)
QOTD/Hunger - I am experiencing the opposite. Nothing sounds good.
QOTD- FoodWith DD I was sooo hungry a lot of the time. I hated the 4am-wakeup-starving but it happened all the time. Happened today for the first time - ugh. I used to keep some food by the bed so I didn't have to get up to get something; I'll have to start doing that.
Wow! Lot's to catch up on!
Medieval- Thanks for the congrats! :) Sorry your husband is missing your first appointment but it's for a wonderful cause. You should be proud.
Shortcake and jarm-Congratulations!
mrsk-Good luck at your appopintment!
jarm and Img159-Your kids' announcements were very cute! I'm keeping it a secret until I'm nearing the second trimester becuase I don't want to share the news with everyone yet and my 3 year old isn't very good at keeping secrets. ;) I have to tell you though, when we left the doctor's office with an u/s picture my daughter asked me if there was a baby in my belly. :eek: I have NO idea how she knew what it was. Come to think of it, when she was 11-12 months old I was in the middle of an u/s with DD#2 and she pointed excitedly at the screen saying, "Baby! Baby!". I have no idea how these kids pick up on things.
krisitin9903-Do you know if your doctor will do another beta strep test later on in your pregnancy? I thought they tend to wait until labor is imminent because even if you test negative now you could test positive months from now. Just curious.
crazycaro- I hope your ms is at bay soon. I know how tough it is taking care of a baby when you're feeling so sick. My OB gave me a prescription for Zofran last time around, because I was so ill throughout my pregnancy, but I stupidly refused to take it. :rolleyes:
Medieval-Every OB/midwife is so different. My OB sees patients right away to put their minds at ease. I have to say that's a good thing for me because I'm a worrier by nature. Seriously, I can call him day or night if I have any questions or concerns and if I feel the need to see him he'll see me right away. He's wonderful. He's also very open to natural childbirth, which is very imortant to me. The man rubbed my feet while I was in labor with DD #2 to help alleviate the pain. He'll alaways hold a special place in my heart. :p
Anyway, my first appointment consisted of some paperwork, questions and anwers, a "goody bag", urine pregnancy test, some bloodwork, weight, blood pressure, urinalysis and urine culture, pap, internal exam, breast exam, and transvaginal ultrasound to see if there was evidence of a pregnancy and to see if the sac, if visible, was located in the correct place. I went 10 days later to see how things were progressing and we were able to see the gestational sac, yolk sac, fetal pole, and heartbeat. I'm going back again on Saturday so he can take a crown to rump measurement so we can more accurately date the pregnancy. After that I'll probably see him once a month until 32 weeks when I'll see him every 2 weeks, and then at 36 weeks I'll see him once a week. Well, that's pretty much what he did with my first two pregnancies.
Sneezy-Glad to see you back!
jarm-OMG I've been hungry round the clock since I became pregnant! It's crazy!
I'm feeling ok. No puking yet. Just some dry heaving. Lovely. :rolleyes: I'm absolutely famished most of the day though.
I'm having a hard time keeping this pregnancy a secret. Last night I took the kids to dinner at my parents' house and I didn't eat because my mom cooked my steak medium, which is normally how I eat it, unless I'm pregnant. I've also turned down margaritas (because I had a "headache") and a soak in a hot tub (because I had my "period"). I hate lying to people but I'm not ready to make the announcement just yet. We actually have a plan for how we're going to do it but it requires me holding off for another 5-6 weeks or so (around DD #2's second birthday). We want to wait until DH's mom is in town so we can tell our families in person, together. I don't know how the hell I'm going to cram into my jeans for another 5-6 weeks. I didn't really start to show with #1 until I was about 18 weeks. #2 was another story though. I can't imagine #3 being easier to hide.
Kim Yeah, I thought it was kind of weird to be testing me this early, too. He's a very cautious Dr., so I imagine he just covers all his bases. I'm sure I'll get tested later, too.
---
So, in case I wasn't high risk enough, my OB just called to inform me that I have hypothyroidism. Yippee. I'm thinking being pg must of caused it because I just had a normal thyroid panel at my family dr.'s in June. Rah.
krisitin- That's really good that your doc checked your TSH levels. It can totally be triggered by pregnancy. It's really important to maintain normal levels during pregnancy. I only know because I have hypothyroidism, too. Do you know what your levels were, by chance? Did he mention anything about starting you on Synthroid?
Just wanted to add, once your TSh levels are under control there is no added risk to your pregnancy. Try not to worry about it. :)
Well, my appointment was very informational, which is pretty much what I expected. I went, peed in cup, we talked about what I could/could not eat, which exercises were safe, we covered my medical history, etc. I was given a goodie bag with prenatal viatmins and magazines and then sent to have my blood drawn for tests. They took what seemed like a large amount of blood, but on the upside the nurse was able to find a vein right away and only had to poke me once this time.
I have to say I was a little disappointed that there was no powerpoint presentation.
I'm much more excited for my ultrasound in two weeks, but at least a lot of my questions were answered. This whole thing still feels very surreal. I've felt a little queasy the past few days, ( last night I gagged on my vitamin and this morning on my toothbrush) but nothing that has been keeping me from eating the things that sound good. I am definately waiting for something to hit.
Food: Yes! I've been having some weird cravings too. Last night I ate 1/2 jar of bread and butter pickles and some nachos. Not exactly healthy, but it sounded so good. Other cravings include anything with tomatoes, raw, V8, tomato sauce, you name it.
Kim, jarm & lmg: Cute stories. Kids are so funny!
Medieval: What a great thing your husband is doing. I hope he stays safe!
Kristin: Hang in there!
Does anyone have any opinion on the Bella Bands? Do they roll?
Thanks mrsk and Kim!
Yeah, my RN stepmother concurred that the pregnancy could be causing it and it's super common. Doc has called in Synthroid for me to start taking. I'm putting in a call to him because I was on it once before and it pushed me into hyperthyroidism which was decidedly not fun at all.
Nice to see so much activity in here. I love having people to compare notes with!
lmg, jarm, Kim - love the kiddo stories. They certainly do say the darndest things!
Kristin - sounds like you are under great care.
mrsK, Kristin and Kim - thanks for detailed recap of your visits. Mine is next Thursday, so it is good to have an idea of what to expect. I know I'm getting an u/s, but that is all I know.
m/s has been true to its name the last couple of days, no actual toilet visits yet, just constant nausea until 11:30 or so. It is also keeping me from my beloved decaf latte. Today I woke up feeling okay, but I just tried some oj and it didn't sit so well. Other than that, I just get so tired. I get up between 7:30 and 8 and am in bed at night by 10.
Food - I don't have a ton of cravings except for greasy potatoes when I have m/s. I'm not sure how many more days I can hold out on the McD's hashbrown run. I am hungry alot though. I wake up in the middle of the night to pee and want to eat, but so far I've been forcing myself to go back to sleep. I imagine if I ever do it and wake up in the morning actually getting sick then I'll start having crackers or something at night.
First time here in pg land. And not too far along yet. I go in for my first appt. on Sept. 27. Nervous about every little twinge but I know that some are normal. I'm trying to be patient but my doctor doesn't see anyone until they are 6 weeks (which is much earlier than some get to go in).
Welcome Lolly! Trust me, we are all nervous to be here ;) It is a great support group though and so helpful to hear what others are going through. I know it has saved lots of anxiety since I don't see a Dr. until 8 1/2w.
Food This is weird for me. I definitely have m/s, so most of the time nothing sounds good. I can't decide if I am better off with nothing or something in my stomach :confused: So I tend to graze small and am never really satisfied. I haven't necessarily had weird cravings, but definitely specific ones!! Cheese quesadillas are a big one right now. I also have a sort of funny story. Sunday DH and I went out for coffee. On the way there I thought, there is no way I am getting anything at Starbucks, and I need something in my stomach NOW. So I made DH stop at McDs for an egg McMuffin. At the window the lady said 'do you want jelly with that' :eek: I thought I was going to lose my cookies right there. Anyway, the mcmuffin tasted great, so I bought stuff to make my own at home. I have made one each morning since w/ jelly :p (I guess she put a great idea in my head).
Thanks to all the ladies who have posted about their appointments. I can't wait for mine and I hate going to Drs.
Kim, I agree this is hard to keep a secret. I think I am very close to letting it out of the bag more and more. One of my best friends just called to say she is engaged. She said no matter what, you will have to come where ever it is. I said of course. I couldn't tell her because I am sitting at work with too many ears around. I did say, let me know if you start deciding dates. I will talk to you soon. I think I better call her tonight and let her know :)
Hi everyone! I'm pages and pages behind from responding to individual folks and QOTD, but just wanted to congratulate the new members and add that m/s has somewhat crept into my life. No actual vomiting, just general nausea and an aversion to any leftovers (and I used to be queen of leftovers--cooking a huge meal and eating it for 3 meals).
Work has been super busy with lots of events now that our students are back on campus. But since I haven't told anyone, I've also been lifting boxes (just moved into a new office), flats of individual bottles of water (those are heavy!) and food in those catering/chafing dishes for our reception the other night. Doctors just say not to lift anything over 30 pounds, right?
I probably will tell my boss soon, maybe after tomorrow's appointment!
Hope you're all having a good day!
Thanks for the Welcome everyone!
No ms for me yet, but I'm sure it will come soon. I just hope I don't have it too bad in a month from now because I'm doing a reading in my friends wedding. We're traveling for the wedding too. So I really hope when it does hit, that its not too bad.
I've told two other IRL people besides my DH. Haven't told our prents yet but I really needed to tell 2 of my girlfriends at work or else I'd go crazy. They've been pregnant before, one recently, so I need them for questions and support. One person at work said I looked flushed and said, are you sure you're not pg?. I actually first tested that next morning because of what she said. Anyway, it is hard to keep it a secret for sure.
ETA: just remembered something. I've heard that prenatels can sometimes make ms symptoms worse. And since I've always had a sensitive stomach I try to take all of my medications and vitamins before I go to bed in the evening. That way they don't bother my stomach too much. When I had first started taking BC pills I was sick every single day. Finally my mom said I should take it at night and magically I was much , much better. So now I take my prenatels at night too.
Just wanted to put in my suggestion in case no one thought of it yet. I'm sure it won't make ms go away completely but HTH!
Morning,
Welcome new-comers Jarm, Shortcake and Lolly.
Bloomwood I think our first appointments are on the same day!! The days seem to be dragging and it just won't get here!!
I agree it is hard to not tell people. I just want the next 6-7 weeks to go by quickly so I can tell everyone. I'm seeing a few of my college friends in 3 weeks and would love to tell them in person. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I don't get to see them often and it would be so much more fun to tell them in person.
Feeling pretty good otherwise. Still no real m/s. Feeling nausea on and off, but not frequently. QOTD - food Nothing really strange going on with food right now either. Not really starving. I actually feel like I'm eating less than normal. I am getting full quickly and not really interested in eating (but not because I feel sick or nauseous). I guess its good because I won't over eat right now and gain un-needed weight early.
I have a QOTD for everyone....HOW does everyone get the suggested 8-12 glasses of water everyday? I've always been bad about drinking enough water, but I can't seem to get better, although I know I need to. Honestly, I probably drink 4-5 glasses a day (and that's better than the 2-3 I was getting before). Does anyone have any tips or tricks to drink enough water?
Good morning! Not much new going on here. M/S is getting worse, so tired and can't sleep, so don't want to go to work, and so looking forward to the weekend. As my DH reminds me, I wanted this ;) I do have to say that I am always queasy and so the moment I don't feel it, I start to worry. Kind of sad that this awful feeling makes me feel pregnant.
Okay, done whining!
QOTD: Drinking enough water - water these days doesn't taste great. I tend to drink 1-2 big glasses in the morning to wash down the vitamins. I then have 1-2 big glasses at work, just keep my glass full and drink it. Then usually water with dinner, or some OJ. I find in general I am thirsty, so I just try to drink a glass when I feel that way. I think I am getting enough, but who knows.
Lots of you have appointments today. Can't wait for you to come back and tell us all about it. Maybe we will see some more pictures :D
Have a good day. Off to add Lolly to the list :)
QOTD food: I feel pretty much like Mrs-Mac does. Not too hungry lately and no ms yet. I just feel full faster, and it seems that my eyes are bigger than my stomach and I can't finish whats on my plate.
QOTD water: I drink 1-2 glasses as soon as I get up and before I walk to dogs in the morning. Then when I get to work I go to our cafeteria and get a cup of lots of ice and water and a few lemon wedges. I tend to drink more water when its ice cold and with a lemon. Then I drink a few more glasses at work (probably 3 total). Then at night I drink a glass when I get home and have some with dinner. And one more glass an hour before bed with my prenatel. I think I'm getting enough. I hope I am.
kristin9903
QOTD-Water I went from drinking nothing (and I mean nothing) but Diet Coke to drinking just water. I would allow myself the occasional Diet Coke, but my body just wants water all the time. I know I'm getting enough, since I can drink a 1 L bottle in about 30 minutes.
Hi all, I haven't been around in awhile...m/s is still kicking my butt...I can barely work/concentrate...all I want to do is sleep! Food doesn't sound good, forget cooking. DH and DS have been living off microwave pizzas and chicken nuggets. How is everyone getting enough to eat? I just feel like I'm not getting enough nutrients. It seems worse this time around. I can drink water and thats all I've been drinking so thats good, i guess.
We will be fining out the sex and I did the Chinese gender predictor and it says GIRL...I hope so!
Welcome everyone! This thread is so big!
I told my bosses on Monday, they were happy for me. Now, I just need to break it to them that I will be taking 12 weeks this time around. I only took 6 with DS and I regret that.
Have a good day everyone!
What a day! I've been busy at work and DH called me to tell me my BIL spent last night in the hospital. He's been having trouble breathing and they did a cat scan and found a mass on in his lungs. At the time they weren't sure if it was cancer or pneumonia. They ran some tests and let him go home this morning since he was reacting well to the antibiotics they gave him. Thank god, we received a call a little while ago, and BIL definately does not have cancer. Poor BIL & SIL have been up all night and have two little ones so we are taking them dinner tonight.
QOTD/Water: I have a 32oz water bottle that I fill up several times during the day. It makes 8, 8oz glasses less overwhelming.
Welcome to all the new ladies!
I hope everyone is having a good day!
Akachan93, I am totally with you on being worthless at work. It is frustrating. But as they say, this too shall pass ;)
Kristin, awesome job on decreasing your diet coke consumption! I don't usually drink soda, but I had a rootbeer today and it hit the spot :p I also had DH buy gingerale. I need something to help this yucky tummy.
Alright, off to a facial. This will probably be one of my last since we aren't supposed to lay on our back after the 1st trimester :(
Thanks Kim and mrsk for the info about your first prenatal visits, I found it really informative about what to expect! mrsk I'm so glad to hear your BIL is okay. And finally, thanks to everyone with well wishes to my husband.
Funny thing about that is I think since he's been gone my m/s has eased up. I had a little today but I actually managed to do a moderate 30 minute work out on the elliptical. And let me tell you, I'm certainly no exercise junkie but it felt SO GOOD to actually be able to do this.
I too have been bad about my water intake and thank those of you who are inspiring me to do better!
re: Ginger Ale
My husband had bought me a case of this to help alleviate my nausea. For the first 2 days I felt it did wonders...after that and up until present I've had a distinct aversion to even the idea of it. I need a new caffeeine-free carbonated drink (ginger ale actually doesn't contain ginger). The bubbles do wonders for me. Any suggestions?
QOTD-water: I'm with mrsk--I have a big red bottle with a built-in straw that holds 32oz and I just make sure I down it twice during the work day. I usually switch to sparkling water at home...but haven't wanted it as much with the pg...
Lolly: Welcome! This is my first PG too. I too feel worthless at work!
I had my first prenatal appointment today! (I went to an "orientation" two weeks ago and did my labs, but this was my first individual visit, and I had to push for it b/c my health provider recommends first visits after week 10--LAME!)
*update* New EDD per my midwife: 5/03/06
Anyway, after waiting over an hour, they took my BP (109/71) and my weight (let's just say it's exactly what it was the day of my BFP). My midwife was pretty cool. She said my bloodwork came back fine, no anemia, I have high platelets, etc. She poked and prodded a little around my middle and there was no pain (apparently a sign of ectopic), felt up my BBs, did a mini-pelvic, and showed me my cervix with a mirror. It was purple-ish which she said is a sign of PG. Ok then!
Finally, she offered to do a vaginal U/S. She said at this stage it really doesn't do anything for them on their end, so it's just for my own interest. That seems strange to me, but of course I wanted it either way. Can I tell you, that was *not* entirely pleasant, I didn't realize they jam that pole up inside. Anyway, although she said doing it was no big deal, suddenly she could not find anything, and there was a minute or two of silence where it got VERY uncomfortable in the room. She said, "let me just get a doctor to give it a shot." She also told me to go pee, b/c by the time they finally saw me of course I had to go again. Apparently, thankfully, that made the difference , and the doctor found a yolk sac and a heart beat. She said it looked like 6 weeks 2 days (although I'm 7 weeks 2 days by LMP).
Pheeeee-Yewwwww!!! So at least I know for the first time that there's something in there (who lately I've been calling "The Twinkie", as in, "'The Twinkie' would like a frozen banana, hon"), and it's in the right place!
I feel very relieved, although now I feel kind of aimless. My next appointment is 4 weeks from tomorrow ([B]10/14/05), and we definitely aren't telling anyone IRL til after that. Bleh!!!
Well, I'm kind of hoping to rely on online pals to especially get through the secretive phase--thanks to all of you in advance!!! :) :) :)
Sneezy Sounds like you had a good first appointment!
For alternative caffeine free sodas, Sprite is pretty good. Also, if you can find a sparkling lemonade, I HIGHLY recommend those. Sooooooo good!
I know...I am such a bad poster...I actually sort of skim over everything--but don't feel much like posting. I do not want to get too excited about everything yet...So, I am avoiding thinking about it most of the time.
I went to the new OB office on Monday for blood tests and such. Everything was fine --after I drank enough water and walked around the block so that I could pee in the cup! I am scheduled for my first visit with the doctor on Monday, September 26th. I also have to go for more tests next week --to compare to my baseline results from Monday. I also now have chewable prenatal vitamins :D
We did tell my DD last night--She was quite upset --completely not the reaction I expected. Today though, she had a hard time not telling her friends--and was very excited about having a sister. She explained that she would send any boys back...
QOTD:
1- On water --I really don't like water--but I bought a huge pack of Poland Spring for under my desk at work so that I can force myself... I would much prefer to drink juice!
2- On ginger ale -- I find it works quite well --as does herbal tea--especially peppermint.
3- On food -- No one can ever believe that I am so small --but enjoy eating so much...and that was pre-PG! Certain things don't taste as great--but luckily my DH is willing to accomodate me.
4- On non-standard ways for predicting the sex -- It's about as exact in my mind as selecting lottery numbers...
Welcome to everyone that I have not yet met...and howdy to everyone I mean to chat with...
Hi all! Just a quick post to update on my first OB appointment today.
Appointment was pretty standard. We skipped a lot of the prenatal health stuff since this is my second time around, but the midwife encouraged me to call with ANY questions or concerns no matter how 'rookie' I thought they sounded ;) We went through a bunch of questions about my medical and family history and then we talked about my first delivery a bit. I had a c-section and a bunch of stuff didn't seem to go right that I want to make sure are on the radar screen this time around. Also, I'd like to try for a vaginal birth so we talked about the risks and benefits of that.
I was weighed and had my bp taken and then we tried an ultrasound. They didn't have the equipment for a transvaginal, so it was on my abdomen and we couldn't get a good view of the baby :( We did hear that wonderful heartbeat though (at 150bpm)!!!! The MW said that there was a sac and that it was in the right place and combined with hearing a good strong heartbeat, things seem to be progressing nicely :) After that, I got my bag of magazines and paperwork about the hospital and got sent of for bloodwork.
After my appointment, DH, DS and I drove to my brother's (2+ hrs away) to see my 2-day-old nephew :) He's sooooo tiny! Can't believe we'll have another one like that in 9 months! But all the driving has made me exhausted!! Hope to be back tomorrow to get to replies :)
Updated EDD: 5/5/06
Hi everyone!
So I had a boring check-up this afternoon, my first individual exam (not counting that group orientation with the PowerPoint presentation!) Luckily, I didn't have to get a pap smear or physical because I just had them in July. Instead, I got a million questions about my medical history. Then, after telling the CNM that I have irregular cycles and that the first day I got a BFP was 8/23, she guessed that my EDD is 5/2, which means I'm only around 7 weeks. I even told the appointments woman that I was probably got pregnant later than my LMP would've predicted, so I was right since the CNM said it was too early for an appointment.
She wasn't able to detect a heartbeat using the Doppler, which she said wasn't unusual given how early it is. At least I have an u/s scheduled for next Wed, ON MY BIRTHDAY! Crazy, huh?
QOTD (at least today's, as it's too late to answer the others, I think!): I drink a big mug of water each hour (or more often) depending on how thirsty I am or how busy I am at work. I try to get up and get a new mug everytime it's empty. I LOVE cold water and have been thirstier than usual. I'm also waking up at 4 am everyday to use the restroom. :(
Thanks everyone! BIL looked pretty good last night. He still looks a little pale/grey, but felt well enough to eat and watch Survivor with us.
Sneezy, nettreefrong, lmg & smiles: Glad to hear you all had good appointments!
Guinness: A facial! I'm so jealous right now. I would kill for a facial and a massage.
Are massages ok while you're pregnant?
Kristin: Sparkling leomonade sounds so good right now.
This is becoming a problem lately, something sounds good, and I can't get it off my mind until I have it.
Hope everyone is ready for the weekend. I can't believe how fast the weeks are flying by already!
New QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend? Saturday we are driving out to DH's hometown for a memorial dedication to my MIL at the Public Library where she worked. They received over $2,000 in doncations and were able to buy three benches and a rocker that will go in the Story Telling Room. My MIL died tragically almost a year ago, so this should be a very emotionally charged weekend.
On a brighter note, Sunday we will be celebrating my nephew's first birthday.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Just a quick post becuase I'm so nauseous...
QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend?-
Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment. After that we're taking the kids to a medieval festival http://www.sandspointpreserve.org/htm/info.htm which I'm very excited about. Hoping the weather holds up. Then on Sunday we have Cow Harbor Day. The town that I grew up in used to be known as Cow Harbor. Every year there is a 10K run on a Saturday in September, followed by a parade/festival/sidewalk sales on Sunday. It's a lot of fun. I've been going since I was a baby and would like to maintain that tradition with my own family. :)
I can't really respond to everyone's posts right now. I'm really sorry, I've just been feeling really sick. :( I was hoping to avoid morning sickness this time around but it seems to be getting worse as the weeks go by. Lucky me it pretty much hangs around 24/7. I couldn't fall asleep last night because I felt so ill, and I woke up feeling the same way this morning. This too shall pass.
I'll be back to check out everyone's posts after I eat lunch. I usually feel better after I eat something.
Hello! Great to hear about everyone's appointments. I just wanted to post a couple of quick things since my last couple days of m/s have been horrible. Gingerale Akachan = Bad. It sent me over the edge last night, but I have 2 bottle at home if you would like to try. I am down to soda crackers for a while.
My facial was great. She said massages on the feel are bad and can lead to contractions, so not foot rubs for me I guess :(
My weekend plans are at this point laying around hoping to feel better. I am looking forward to the laying around part.
Hope everyone has a great day! I will check back in later to do personal SOs when I feel better. Right now I have to go teach for an hour - this should be interesting :eek:
Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas about drinking enough water. And its good to know I'm not the only one not getting enough!
Boy things are starting to happen for everyone. Seems like there are a bunch of first appointments. Glad everything is going well.
I'm not feeling to great today. Have been nauseous all day (and last night) and have a horrible headache that won't go away. Its making the day drag at work.
QOTD - Weekend - I'm pretty excited about my weekend. I'm going to a local darkroom to develop black & white prints of my nephew and a few weddings I attended this summer. I love photography and itis an obesssion, I mean hobby, of mine. Sunday I will just relax with DH and watch some Eagles football!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
quietly following along ...
Another good non-caffeine soda is Fresca.
I'm feeling pretty good ... just tired.
I took Gabe to the park over my noon hour, and he loved swinging in the swings. We're all alone next week as DH will be gone on a fishing trip.
Our news is pretty much public knowledge at work. I had a gossip leak somewhere. Oh well ... I'm starting to pooch anyway.
So far, not any major symptoms. Just more tired than usually.
We haven't really told anyone yet IRL (well, my DH did tell his BF whose wife is current pg). I'm not sure when we will. Maybe after our next u/s.
My next appointment is Oct. 3
Welcome Melissa- We were on the charting thread together, it's great to see you in here!
Let's see, weekend plans? We have a birthday party tomorrow, church Sunday, and mom's group on Monday. Then it's back to work (to relax) on Tuesday!
Morning sickness is still alive and kicking here. I actually feel ok in the morning but by about 10am the m/s starts and just gets worse and worse until about midnight. I really am looking forward to this ending but unfortunately with my DD I had m/s for 7 months! Oh well, the outcome is worth it!
Someone asked about ginger ale. It worked great for my first pg- also ginger snaps. But now if I just hear the word ginger I get nauseous- you know like if you eat something and then get sick afterward how you have a permanent aversion to that food. Well, that's me with ginger ale. But, it did work well- give it a try!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Welcome Lowcountrywed!
Weekend plans: I'm going out to dinner with a few girlfriends tonight. Usually I would be drinking but I had just told one of the girls that I'm on an antibiotic (a little white lie). Tomorrow morning I teach gymnastics (my fun job). It is the first class of the session and I haven't taught class in a month. We're just tumbling (forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels) tomorrow and I'll have another instructor demonstrate for me as no one there knows about me being pg. yet. Then after my classes I'll probably come back into work (my day job) so I can catch up on everything that didn't get done this week. I get so umch more done at the office when no-one else is around. Sunday the plan is to do nothing but relax!
Hello May Mommies! So exciting to see our list growing!
I'm feeling pretty well still, just a little tired at time, VERY sore boobs, and major aversions to some foods. I'm not really having any m/s but just certain things make me feel nauseated when I think about them or smell them, and sometimes after I eat I feel a little sick. Hope it stays this way!
QOTD: Weekend plans--We are just hanging out at home tonight, then tomorrow DH is going to a bachelor dinner for a friend. Sunday we are having brunch with my family to celebrate my birthday. Then it is off to NYC until Thursday!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
Jennifer
PS My next OB appt is on September 26th for an ultrasound! Can't wait!!!
QOTD: This weekend...tonight it was just DD and me; tomorrow will be errands (we were supposed to have a tag sale) and then tomorrow night DH has to work; Sunday we're taking DD for pictures and then who knows what the day will bring.
lmg159 – Congrats on your nephew! It must have been exciting hearing the heartbeat for the first time!
Smiles33 – Fabulous that the u/s is on such a special day! Do you have anything else exciting planned for the day?
Mrsk – I was sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope that the dedication is heartwarming –without being overwhelming. Give your DH an extra hug for all of us!
Kim – I didn’t realize that you were on LI—and so close! My MIL lives in Mineola—and we are out there quite a bit.
Guiness – I don’t know if this will help –but I have heard that having extra protein in your diet cuts down on the m/s.
Mrs-Mac – How fabulous –Do you have a website or gallery of your work?
Jenzen01 – Going to the park at lunch hour sounds quite relaxing and refreshing. Is Gabe in day care near work?
Lowcountrywed – Welcome to the mix! I cannot wait to see your pic!
missy329 – I hope that your m/s does not last as long as it did with your dd--. Have fun at the birthday party!
kristin9903 – Haha—puke-tastic –what a great descriptive word. I hope to be doing some cleaning as well this weekend… so in that sense, we will be in similar boats…
Lolly – Are you a former gymnast? I did gymnastics a number of years ago—and always thought about teaching as well. I can still just stand next to team practicing and watch for hours on end… On another note—I also get a ton done when I am alone in the office.
mrst2001 – You’re coming to my City! Are you here for a vacation? It looks like we’re both going to the OB on the 26th!
Jarm – Are you still planning on holding the tag sale? My DD loves them…but I always just give up and take stuff to Salvation Army--:D
This weekend – We just picked up my DD’s soccer uniform –and then we picked her up from a playdate. I had an annoying day with my boss –and my DH was nice enough to pick me up Chinese food despite the fact that I am in an obnoxious mood. Tomorrow morning, we have our first game of the season –then, we hope to come back to the pad so that my DD can work on a school project –and we can clean. I really have no clue what else we have planned –but inevitably, we will get swamped with stuff.
New QOTD – Does anyone else feel more argumentative and maybe obnoxious than usual?
Hi Everyone! This thread is HUGE! 25 May Mommas! Rumor has it there’s still room for a few more… mind if I join in? :)
Sourdough
Me: 27
DH: 28
Married: o8.o3
TTC: o7.o1.o5
BFP: o9.o2.o5
EDD: o5.o7.o6
So far, no crazy symptoms, except increased appetite, fatigue, and lack of motivation to keep up a social life (notice I’m posting late on a Friday night :p)
I had my first prenatal appointment today… did loads of paperwork and lab tests. My next appointment is October 3rd. That’s when they’ll review my tests from today, and do a vaginal ultrasound. They used the standard “wheel” to determine my due date (May 7th) but I think that’ll change after my u/s because I’m sure that I ovulated late last cycle.
QOTD #1: Weekend – napping, eating, watching football, and probably some more napping and eating.
QOTD #2: Feeling Argumentative – heck yeah. I had a real problem with DH tonight because he grilled some ribs and didn’t use the “good” BBQ sauce. I think I even wrapped up my lecture on proper BBQ'ing with something along the lines of... "Better start pre-ordering your apologies for the next nine months." wth? Poor DH, I don’t know where that came from. :o :rolleyes:
Right, so, anyway, I’m really glad to be here! And I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone! Have a great weekend! :)
Good morning! Welcome Sourdough! I think we will still have lots more May Mommies joining us since we really only have the 1st half of the month filled up. Should be fun :D
Nettreefrog, I might try the protein trick. Breakfast usually stays down it is dinner that isn't making it. I talked to a friend last night and she said someone she knew with bad m/s the 1st pg tried everthing. The 2nd pg, she said I am eating 1 cereal only because I would like to be able to eat cereal in the future. i am starting to wage that game, what foods don't i want aversions too later :rolleyes:
Kristin, I am going to be having a similar saturday! Gig 'em :D
mrsk, you asked me about massages a while back. I can't seem to spell, massages on FEET are bad and can lead to contractions. I think there are pregnancy massages, just go to someone who knows. My OB office has a spa in it for massages, facials, pedicures/manicures. I think I will be using them along the way!!
QOTD - not feeling totally argumentative, but have a little less patience. Same as the feeling when you want to eat, it means NOW. I got a little annoyed with my Grad students yesterday asking the same questions. Usually I am very patient. So far DH hasn't bothered me at all. I so hope we can maintain that as he has been wonderful so far.
Well, hope everyone has a great weekend. Perhaps we will get some new mommies this weekend :D
Welcome to Sourdough! There's plenty of room in here for you!!!
m/s I'm having a similar problem to Guinness. Things stay down until after dinner. So, I have a new plan for today. Eat most of my calories during the day, and just snack on some dry cheerios at night. That way, if they make a reappearance, it won't be too traumatizing. My love affair with buffalo spiced chicken ended because I ate it at night. :(
QOTD - Agitation Um, yeah. I feel just awful for my poor students. One poor soul came up and said, "Um...I haven't read the chapters in the book. Do I need to do that?" I rolled my eyes at her. Then, I apologized and tried to answer her question. And, I don't think DH will ever forget the moment that I yelled at him for eating the package of chocolate covered pretzels I bought.
Hi ladies! Welcome, Sourdough!
mrst2001, I think I'm in the same boat as you, as I haven't vomited but do sometimes nauseaus (and have actually dry heaved a couple times). For me, it's all about avoiding bad smells, which seem to trigger the nausea spells.
QOTD 1: DH and I went to a fundraiser BBQ today (for the Berkeley Repertory Theater, whose set warehouse had burned down!) and then to the Cal football game but we left at halftime because I wasn't feeling very well. Not so much nausea, but discomfort (back pain as those seat backs don't provide the best support, the inconvenience of squeezing out of the row to run to the bathroom, etc.). Slept the entire ride home and am now feeling MUCH better.
QOTD 2: I don't think I've been argumentative. Unfortunately, what I am noticing more is extreme forgetfulness.
As for this upcoming week, I'm looking forward to my u/s on Wed, which is also my 29th birthday! Talk about funny timing--we got our BFP on DH's birthday and now we will get to see Baby J on my birthday!
Hope you're all surviving with minimal symptoms!
ETA: I forgot to reply to nettreefrog! :( No other plans yet, as not sure if I can go for a fancy dinner. But I already got an early b-day present--a new Coach diaper bag from DH!
nettreefrog - How are the chewable prenatals? How do they taste? I'm having a really tough time swallowing the prenatals.
Aside from being a bit expensive (with insurance, 30 of them cost $15), the vitamins don't taste too bad --and even come shaped like a heart. Who could want more? --Seriously though, I am not capable of swallowing large pills --and choked a number of times on what I called my "horse pills" while I was PG with my DD.
Hi May-mommas,
First, sorry I haven't done any individual S/O's (I was very impressed with nettreefrog!) but I am enjoying reading everyone's posts. I'm not allowed to go to message boards from my work computer (which has proven to be monitored) so sometimes it's a couple days before I can get all caught up.
Weekend: Thankfully, we had no plans for once so I've spent the weekend laying around as I feel frightfully sick (actually some kind of cold-flu-y thing that's probably being exacerbated by PG, or vice versa!). I've been reading pregnancy mags (ordered some back issues off ebay) and watching lame tv such as the britney and kevin chaotic marathon yesterday! :rolleyes:
Irritability: Surprisingly, since I perhaps am known to get a little testy *ANY*way, I haven't noticed anything enhanced. In fact, when DH ate 3 out of 4 frozen chocolate bananas and left the empty box in the freezer, for once I just laughed at him. Hmm!!
Here's what I'm wondering: since I can hardly focus on anything (which perhaps will get better once this isn't a secret anymore), and since I'm very tired, AND since I feel like crud... how do those of you who already have kids handle this??? I can't imagine!!!!
Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a great weekend. Ours started off great. We took the kids to the Medieval Festival which was a lot of fun. Then I got a phone call that my best friend of 21 years grandmother died. :( I've been so depressed about this. She was a wonderful woman, almost like a grandmother to me. I've known her since I was 5! Anyway, I'm really sad because my BF is due in March with her first. This baby would have been the first great grandchild. Very, very sad.
We still ended up going to Cow Harbor Day today. It was fun, albeit very hot and sunny. My parents went to the wake this afternoon and then they'll babysit the kids so DH and I can go tonight.
For some good news...We saw the doctor on Saturday and it was a great appointment. My due date of May 8th was confirmed (not that it makes a difference since #2 was 5 days late). :p The baby is measuring right on (well, between 6 weeks 4 days and 6 weeks 5 days). According to my lmp I should have been 6 weeks, 5 days, and according to my ovulation date I should have been 6 weeks 4 days. The CRL was 7.5mm (6w, 4d= 7.0 and 6w, 5d= 8.0) and the heartrate was 133.8 BPM (6w,4d=133 BPM and 6w, 5d=137BPM). A really cool fact...the embryonic heartrate is supposed to rise 3.3 BPM everyday. It amazed me that this is so accurate! On Monday we got a heartrate of 116 BPM and on Saturday 133.8 BPM. We had an increase of 17.8! Very close to the 16.5 that was predicted.
For anyone interested, there are some pretty cool charts of CRL and embryonic heartrates here http://www.ivfer.com/pg_calc.htm.
I have to go feed the kids dinner and then get ready for the wake. I'll stop by when we get home tonight as long as it's not too late. It's supposed to be from 7-9 but it's about 45 minutes away and I'm not sure if my BF is going to want to talk after. So we'll see. Either tonight or tomorrow for shoutouts!
Thanks for the input on the chewables nettreefrog!
Our weekend was pretty lowkey. I don't know what my problem was, but this afternoon we took DD for pictures and we were walking through the mall. My DH was practically running and I was getting cramps in my abdominal area and started to feel nauseous. It happened several times today.
Tonight I'm trying to do my school project that's due tomorrow. Then I have to check my lesson plans and make sure that I have them done for at least the first part of this week. Tomorrow is picture day at school so I need to pretty myself tomorrow. I'll wear my hair down, but I'm taking my darn ponytail holder with me.
My assignments for school are due tomorrow and I'm nervous that they're not up to par. Oh well...what can I do?
Tuesday is open house at school. I'm not looking forward to that...I have to find a sitter because DH works evenings. Not happy about that. MIL drives me insane and I'm just not sure I want to take DD there.
I'm rambling...I tend to do that when I'm nervous, stressed, etc. You can definitely skip over any of my posts...I won't get upset over it. I actually talk to myself quite frequently...at work I'll start yelling at myself before the kids get in...it's quite entertaining for the others at times.
Ohhh...I know what I don't think I mentioned. The other night DH came home and kissed me goodnight. He came back to the living room to watch some TV and to hang out for a bit since he wasn't tired. I guess when he came back to bed, I was talking loudly in my sleep. Crazy!
Hi all :)
I am feeling a little better m/s wise, I am taking nausea meds once a day and Morning Sickness Formula tablets too - seems to be helping.
We went away this weekend, we went white water rafting if you can believe it! It was planned for ages and I figure I am early enough along it was still safe to do. Thankfully I didn't fall overboard. We only had one person go over, on the very first rapid, lol! It was fun (something I have always wanted to do) but it was *freezing*. It is done in the high country here, near some snowfields, and even though it is Spring here now it is still a bit chilly up there, as we drove there Saturday morning we encountered some snowflakes! We were meant to go on the river twice but opted out of the second run, I was just too cold. Mum came with us to look after Ruby while we rafted, and we spent 2 nights in this gorgeous cottage, it was so quiet and peaceful. Back to reality now.
mrsk - I am into raw tomatoes too. :) I'm also into really fresh spring vegetable type soup! I still don't feel like eating a lot, but those things have been good. I'm glad your BIL is ok.
Congrats and welcome Lolly! And lowcountrywed! And sourdough! And Jen! WOW! Surprised and happy to see you here, we get to be preggo buddies again!
I am being a big naughty, and having a can of Coke in the morning, it just goes down sooooooo well and helps ease my tummy. I'll ease off once my m/s starts passing. I don't drink coffee so figure the small amount of caffiene won't hurt. I am finding it hard to drink water or anything fullstop.
I had a crazy dream last night. I was Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville was dry humping me!!! I'll leave it at that because it went on to be pretty gross!
Morning Ladies,
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I did go to the darkroom and printed a ton of things. My best friend got married this summer and her belated wedding gift will be some framed pics and an album of pics I took and printed. Its nice that its finally (almost) done. Sunday, DH and I just lounged around, watched football and relaxed. It was a nice day.
Welcome Lowcountrywed, sourdough, Jen1098, & Southlooper Congratulations and wishing you a H&H 9 months with the rest of us!
mrst2001 - Hope you had a wonderful birthday!! And enjoy your trip to NYC!
nettreefrog - Hope you had fun at you DD's soccer game. How old is she? I don't have a gallery or anything online of my pictures. But I can try scanning some recent pics, if anyone is interested.
smiles33 How fun that baby events have been falling special days. It makes it even more fun and memorable!
Sneezy - Hope you are feeling better.
Kim - Glad your appt went well. And as a scientist, I find it so cool and SO amazing how predictable everything is regarding embryonic age and development!!
jarm - Don't worry about rambling!! What grade do you teach? Hope your open house goes well tonight.
crazycaro - Glad you had fun whitewater rafting!! And too funny about your dream!! :D
I actually had my first baby related dream last night. I dreamed we went to vist my grandparents (they live like 7 hours away so we don't get to visit them often). Well, I went into labour and had the baby up there (although in the dream I didn't look pregnant). We had a boy on my due date (WHY I would be traveling near my due date is beyone me), and decided to name him Colton (which is one of our choices, Cole as a nickname). We thought is would be very appropriate because that is the name of the town that my grandparents live in!! :)
And finallyQOTD - Irritability - I don't think I've been more cranky. But maybe I should ask my DH. ;)
Southlooper It's so good to see another PCOS grad in here! Congrats!
I had a great weekend, got to share the news with a really dear friend of mine, she's been wonderfully supportive through our TTC journey.
We have our first u/s tomorrow and are praying to see the heartbeat!
ETA--I think m/s has found me--either that, or my stomach does not agree with drinking milk in the morning. It feels like nerves/stomach cramps at this point. I hope that's all it does.
Well I hope everyone enjoyed their weekends! I'm still feeling pretty good, just hungry and sometimes I get full really fast. Friday I had a little brown spotting (I mean really, barely there) but still of course I was a little worried. It did go away though, and I felt pretty good all weekend.
The memorial dedication was nice, despite having to drive five hours round trip. Sunday my nephew had a great time at his party. Cake was in his ears, on his eye, up his nose and countless other places. Unfortunately, my BIL had to be rushed to the ER again. They still aren't sure whats wrong, have admitted him and are running tests.
Welcome sourdough, lowcountrywed, southlooper & Jen1098!
We are growing by leaps and bounds! Does anybody else have to take notes to keep up?
Guinness: A spa at your OB's office! I thought I was jealous before!
Kim: Sorry about your friend's grandma.
mrst2001: Hope you had a great birthday!
crazycaro: I definately can't get enough tomatoes. I had this fire roasted tomato bisque the other day that was to die for!
I am so ready for my ultrasound. I don't know how I'm going to wait.
Kim So sorry to hear about your BF's grandmother. Take care of yourself!
Guinness My OB's office has a spa, too! My DH had a hard time with that, as he kept picturing someone getting a facial and a pap at the same time. Ewwww. BTW, gotta love the Aggie game this week! Whoop!
jarm I hear you on the school assignments. I'm taking 6 hours this semester, and I just don't care. I had a test last week that I studied a whole hour for. Oops.
Welcome Lowcountrywed, Sourdough, Atty, and Southlooper!
mrsk Wow I really hope they find out what wrong with your BIL soon.
Mrs-Mac that's a pretty nice pregnancy dream. I don't think I've had any recently, specifically about the baby. Colton is a cute name!
Guiness I highly doubt my OB office has anything spa related in it. Maybe because its an ob/gyn office but my doc has 2 offices an I've never seen anything remotely spa like there. so jealous!
nettreefrog Yes I was a former gymnast. I started teaching when I was 21 because I still wanted to do stuff but was too old to compete or do else with gymnastics. Now I run a gymnastics program with the city parks and rec. dept. The other lady who used to run it retired last August. I used to take this class with the city when I was 5 and I love that I am able give back by teaching it. Like I said, its my fun job! Now if only I could teach full time and get benefits then I could quit my, not so fun, day job!
Everyone OK, I'm trying to give shoutouts to everyone but I'm finding it hard to keep up. I hope you don't mind! I'm not doing it on purpose.
I feel incredibly hot all the time, and unfortunately I don't mean sexy hot. I'm not sweaty or anything; I just feel like I'm my own personal heater. DH says I feel like I'm 40 degrees hotter than he is. Yet I still sleep with the blankets on.
I taught 3 gymnastics classes this Saturday morning. I did become a little worried when we were working on our jumps, but no spotting so I don't think I overdid anything. I just left a message with my OB's office as to what I should definitely not do during this pregnancy. I teach 2 more classes tomorrow night. There is also a team building event at work this Thursday. We're leaving early to go play laser-tag, putt-putt, go-cart racing, and a ropes course (although I'm not quite sure what that is). I know the putt-putt and laser tag should be fine. Not sure if I should go go-cart racing but then again its not bumper cars so I would think it would be OK. I guess I'll wait and see what they say.
Welcome to sourdough, lowcountrywed, southlooper, Jen1098, and attygirl!
I have my u/s this Thursday and it'll be my first visit to the ob's office. I am guessing they don't have a spa, though. A tad jealous over here!
QOTD/irritability: um, yeah. I went to visit my BFF this weekend and I managed to keep it inline, but dealing with DH is another story. I can't even recap the most telling example for you because it is so silly. :rolleyes:
Hope everyone has a good week!
Lolly A ropes course is kind of a team building thing. Some of the time, it can involve heights, climbing, balancing yourself on different apparatus, etc. If it's not too high or dangerous, it should be fun! I'm sure you can opt out of whatever would make you uncomfortable.
Okay--So, I used FF to predict O--and I thought that it did a great job, and used that date to predict my EDD. However, when I use LMP, my EDD is around the 9-10th--just about a week earlier. The OB will most likely provide me with a better EDD --but I just thought that I would mention the fact that my "date" may change. Of course, my DH asked me if it mattered --and I had to explain to him that it did given the pictures in my new PG book!
Thus, my new QOTD -- How did you establish your EDD?
Bloomwood
09-19-2005, 06:29 PM
QOTD Until there is an u/s, the dr. will probably use the start of your LMP to determine your EDD (but they usually give you a week range, like week of May 7th). I used babycenter to determine mine. When I used LMP it came up 5/7, but when I used date of o, it came up the 12th (I think, I don't totally remember). I'm just going with the LMP date until the dr can measure and give me something more specific. This early on, I don't think it makes that big of a difference.
I hope I get these names right...I apologize if I don't.
mrs-mac - I am a first grade teacher by heart, but I am teaching second grade this year. I had to loop with my class.
kristin9903 - I am taking one online course (oh what fun!) and I was supposed to take a class on campus. The first night I couldn't get parking anywhere, I had an emotional breakdown (very obvious now that it was due to the hormones) and so I came home and dropped it. It's my last class that I need to finish up, so I'll have to do that in the spring. I hope that this professor is understanding of a big, fat pg woman.
QOTD - I used some websites to help determine based on my LMP. When I called the ob's office to make my appointment, she also told me that was the date. I'm assuming she used the wheel, or maybe they have a computer program now, but she gave me the same date the computers said.
Caroline Yay how funny we get to go through this again but this time you'd better not go early. !!!!!!!
So far I feel pretty good. Just really tired, luckily ds still naps twice a day so I believe I will be joining him pretty much every day now.
I had a fantastic pregnacy last time along with a great labor and delivery-just hope it's the same this time.
As for figuring out my EDD I went by my lmp since I wasn't charting.
Alright off to go watch TV in bed!
Hello to all the new May Mommies!! I can't keep up today. I am not going to do individual SOs, but hope to get to ya'll next time. Most of the comments were related to my in office spa. I will let you know Friday what this really is. It is on their website, but we all know things can be made to 'look' better than they really are. Here's hoping it is real though.
I had a rough weekend. Sat. nothing stayed down, and Sunday I was scared to try. Today I actually did really good, so maybe the 8 week mark will change things slightly. Definitely not right, but at least everything I try to eat isn't reversing :(
QOTD - my EDD is based between my LMP and O date. I was a charter, so I think I really know. We will see if the DR. agrees.
Alright, I am off to bed (yes it is only 8). It is insane how much sleep I need. Wed. I will be teaching until 8:45 pm and then have to give another presentation after that :eek: Should be interesting.
Hope everyone has a good night tonight and day tomorrow. I will try to make it back to catch up later
Jen, I really hope to not to go early again too! I think I will, but hopefully not so early. I am really anxious to talk about all this at my appt 19 October. I am wondering if a cerclage would help me?
QOTD - using LMP for now. I did this with Ruby too, but when I had my first scan my date was pushed back 5 days.
Sorry, no time for SO's, but wanted to pop in. I'm off for my u/s and so nervous, but also excited! I'm 6w3d, so I'm praying that we'll see that little beating heart!
QOTD --We had an IUI, so we're using EDD based off that
AttyGrl74
I am wondering if a cerclage would help me?
Interesting - a cerclage - I was one of the first babies born in the U.S. whose mother had a cerclage (waaay back in '74). I don't know any of your history - but I do know that I wouldn't be around if it wasn't for that procedure.
Hi all! I hope everyone is feeling swell today. I had a relatively easy first pg - no real m/s to speak of and my only complaints were weight-related. Although at the time, I don't think I realized that.
But I am starting out this pg 45 pounds lighter than my first and hoping to keep my weight gain to a minimum.
QOTD from yesterday: My EDD is either 5/25 or 5/27 - I used FF, but I actually had neg. OPKs the whole week that I thought I O'ed.
My first was 2 weeks early - which was really nice. Especially since she was over 8 lbs.!
For those of you on your 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) bebes - how early do you anticipate moving into maternity wear? I would like to make it to Thanksgiving - not sure if that is possible!
Jen1098
09-20-2005, 08:39 AM
Ugh- I really think I'll be in maternity clothes sooner than last time. With DS I only gained about 23 pounds and I was all belly.
Well I've already got a pouch that never really went away-then again it's not like I tried to hard. :)
I hope all of you May Mommies are doing well today. I'm feeling pretty good. I felt a little green this morning, but I'm okay now.
My BIL is doing okay. He stayed in the hospital again last night. They are running a stronger antibiotic through his IV in hopes of clearing this up a little faster. His blood cell counts indicate it definately is pneumonia, and it will probably take him six to eight weeks to recover fully. Thanks for all your thoughts and wishes! I really do think they make a difference.
QOTD/Irritability: I definately have my moments, and usually its over something so stupid DH and I laugh about it later, but at the time it seems very important.
QOTD/EDD: If I use the date from FF its actually May 9th. If I use the date from my LMP its May 12th. I'm hoping my first ultrasound might give me a more accurate date.
For all of you who've been pregnant before, how soon did you start to show with your first pregnancy? I don't think I'm showing yet, and I haven't relaly gained much weight, but my pants definately feel tighter today. When did you find you had to make the move into maternity clothes?
09-20-2005, 09:15 AM
I've been mostly lurking...Been very tired and green around the gills the past few days.
QOTD/Irritated - Dear lord...its bad. I'm extremely moody.
QOTD/EDD - Based on my chart. I'll get my due date when I have my u/s later this month.
QOTD/Showing, Maternity clothes - I had really bad m/s with the first pg. I started wearing maternity clothes around week 17-18, full time by week 22. At 34 weeks, I was still pretty small. I had a 9# 1 ounce baby girl. This time, I'm finding that I'm already pooching out. Hoping no one notices until after my u/s on 9/30 (approx 8-8.5 weeks pg).
Jenzen01
09-20-2005, 09:17 AM
Blegh. I'm on the tired end of things again. I'm staying at my parents', so I've got some help with Gabe, which means I have time to rest. :) Been rather crampy lately, too.
MrsK - My clothes started getting tight around 8 weeks with Gabe, but I didn't really need other clothes until week 13 or so. And then, I wasn't showing as much as just getting round around the waist. I caved and bought some maternity right away because I figured I'd rather wear that then sit in too tight clothes all day. Your tummy will really start pooching around 20 weeks or so.
I'm on my 2nd day of continually feeling like garbage. I seem to have a couple days of queasy, followed by a couple days of ok. This is the first time that one of my bad days has fallen on the day I teach class, so here's hoping I don't have to make a mad dash to the bathroom during lecture tonight! Tomorrow's my next u/s, so hopefully we'll see a growing little one in there!
QOTD-EDD April 26th was my EDD based on LMP. Since we weren't trying and I had given up charting because of the PCOS (doc said we had an almost 0% chance of conceiving without intervention), I had no clue when I O'd. I knew when I did ovulate, it was usually towards the end of my cycle, so I had a feeling that April 26th would be a bit early. Sure enough, my new EDD based on the ultrasound is anywhere from April 29th to May 2nd.
It's almost 11 and I just woke up from an hour and half nap. Thank God Josh still takes two naps a day. This fatigue is kicking my butt.
I had the same problem with my last pregnancy but of course then I was able to nap when I pretty much felt like it.
Still no m/s thank God-can't imagine having that and havin gto deal with a toddler too. I don't want to jinx myself b/c it could still come at any day.
Hope everyone is feeling good.
Busy day today! I hope everyone is having a much better day than I am today. It hasn't been really bad. I just feel tired and super irritable. I feel awful becuase sometimes I say things, and even as I say them, I can't believe they are coming out of my mouth.
BIL is still in the hospital. Now they are testing for TB, so he'll be there at least until tomorrow, possibly longer. Poor guy.
I hope everyone is well!
Sinclair - I'm so sorry for your loss!
Still feeling pretty good. I've been fighting the nap battle with my 22 month old - she doesn't want to take one anymore, but I'm definitely not letting her give them up yet - at least till the first trimester is over!! (And when I finally do get her to sleep she sleeps for 2-3 hours, so I'm sure she still needs it). I haven't been AS tired yet as I was with her, but then again I'm only a day or two past when AF would have been here so I guess 4 weeks along...not much time for symptoms to kick in full force yet.
I have been irritable, though. Like msrk was saying - I hear things coming out of my mouth and just can't stop them, even though I know they are crazy! I used to get this way with PMS too.
I can't remember exactly when I started wearing materinity clothes with DD. I'm in much less of a hurry with this one - not "waiting eagerly" for that belly or anything. Hopefully I'll be able to do the rubber band trick on my pants to make them last longer. (Do y'all know that one? Use a rubber band, loop it around your pants button, through the buttonhole and back. Then wear a longer shirt to cover it.)
Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been around. Things were kind of crazy with the wakes and the funeral. I've been on a low because of that and my hormones.
Feeling eh. The puking has begun. :rolleyes: I was really hoping I would avoid it. I've been really nauseous the past couple of weeks but last night was the worst episode yet. I'm absolutely exhausted, too. It doesn't help that my husband has been working crazy hours so I have the kids by myself literally all day (7:00 AM-10:30 PM). Then weekends are family days so that leaves no time for me to just lay down and take a nap by myself. DH gave me strict orders for Saturday. I'm not to get out of bed until I feel the need. He's going to take the kids to the park and I'm to relax and take care of myself. Oh, ok. ;)
shortcake-"I've been fighting the nap battle with my 22 month old - she doesn't want to take one anymore"
I'm in the same exact boat with my 23 month old! It's extremely frustrating. In that respect I had an easier time when I was pregnant with her. DD #1 was only 7 months old when I got pregnant with DD #2, so she was still into napping which meant a nap for Mommy, too. It was heavenly.
mrsk-Your BIL is still in my prayers.
Jen1098-"Thank God Josh still takes two naps a day."
I am extremely jealous. :p
AttyGrl74-Good luck at your appointment! By the way, DH and I love the name Nora. I'm not supposed to divulge any potential names on our list, but that one's a contender. ;)
I'll try to get to more shout outs later. It's lunch time for the girls!
If it's o.k., I would like to follow along in your thread. I just took a pg test today and it was +, it looks like I'm due 6/4/06. So, since there isn't a June thread yet, I thought I would follow along with you ladies until I have a home of my own.
Thanks and congrats to everyone!
Sinclair319 - I am sorry for your loss.
rene' - You are close enough to May --and you never know, you might deliver a bit early!
I am definitely feeling more exhausted on a daily basis. What would be a normal routine (taking my daughter to school via bus then walking the 1.5 miles to work...working from 9-5:30... and walking the 1.5 miles to my daughter's school to pick her up --and taking the bus back home) has me coming home completely spent. I have so much stuff to do when I get here--and thankfully my DH has been absolutely wonderful about it all. It doesn't help that my stomach has been terribly rumbly, and I feel heartburn throughout the day. Eating smaller meals today helped a bit--but for the past several days, I have visited my throne (thankfully I have some great reading material there now) countless times. Is anyone else experiencing these symptoms?
nettreefrog Visting the potty? Check. Heartburn? Check. Tired? Check. Looks like we are symptom buddies. :)
rene' Feel free to follow along and join on in. If you would like to have your stats added to our thread, just post them!
Second appointment was today and went just great! Our little one is growing away, and now looks like a little blob (albeit a very cute little blob). Hearbeat was at a blistering 181 bpm, which according to the old wives tales, means this one could be a little girl. I am still thinking that I have a little boy in my belly, though.
Our next appointment is on October 19th, for a NT ultrasound, genetic screening, and further thyroid tests.
Good luck to all the ladies with appointments coming up this week!
Hello Girls-
Sorry no time for SO's. I had a big meeting this week so that meant no computer time :(
I finally broke down and called my OB and begged for something for my morning/all day sickness. I am nauseous from about 10am until about 3am. It was never this bad with my daughter! UGH.... Anyway, the OB is calling in a prescription to the pharmacy. I just hope it helps. I have an appt on Monday so I am very excited about that. I am hoping for an U/S at that appt.
Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to be back later for SO's!
Our team building event is today (in 2 hours) and I will only be participating in putt-putt and possibly a water balloon toss. Which is fine with me (even though I may ditch the water balloon toss as its not that hot outside and I don't feel like getting wet).
Anyway, not much else. I was feeling a tiny bit nauseaus (sp?) yesterday afternoon, but then again I already suffer from gasto-intest. reflux disease. Once I eat I'm pretty good.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Just popping in to say I had both the regular abdominal u/s and an intrauterine one (not sure what it's called) BUT no photos. My medical practice group doesn't even allow the sonographer to TALK to us about what she's seeing. Luckily, DH could see the computer monitor and saw the heartbeat fluttering away. I was so relieved! :)
I'm hoping the OB-GYN will be able to email me some images since they use all electronic records. If I get some, I'll be sure to post one here. Be back later this weekend to post SOs (that is, if I don't sleep all weekend like last weekend).
Hello everyone! I hopefully have my 1st appointment tomorrow. Unfortunately I am in Rita's path and the locale for Houston evacuees, so who knows if my appointment will be canceled. The University is closed starting tomorrow, although I shut things down and left this afternoon. We have lots of water and some canned food expecting power may be out for a while.
If I get to my appointment tomorrow I will be sure and post photos. Still feeling pretty pukey and tired. Keep trying to remind myself that it means my body is working hard to grow a baby.
Have a good day!!
I also am having some pretty nasty GERD - which I didn't have until the 3rd TM with DD. I don't know what the deal is. But I feel pretty crummy.
Hopefully my doc will OK some Zantac or Tagamet tomorrow - I need to make sure they're both PG safe and BF safe, first.
Plus - DD and I seem to have caught a cold. Good times. :rolleyes:
