I feel like our front door and porch are too plain. I've been thinking about getting a wreath or something to hang on the front door. So, I'm curious as to what (if anything) you have hanging on the outside of your doors?
Also, where did you buy the wreath or "door decor"? Are there any good websites to buy things like this?
Feel free to post pictures or your "door decor" or things you like! TIA!
ETA: Here is a picture of our house. The front door is stained wood right now, but we're thinking of painting it hunter green to match the shutters. Any suggestions on what (if anything) to hang on our front door?

Hrmmm... I think your door looks great as it is. :) Do you have a side-view porch photo? I was thinking it might be nice to put some planters underneath the two side windows. But now that I think it through even further, maybe it would be better to build the two planters in between the two side columns. You'd get more light on your plants, and it might help define the front porch area a little better?
Do you have a porch light? It might be nice to get a nice porch fixture. They look lovely during the day and a lit house is beautiful at night!
If you do want a wreath, Martha Stewart (http://www.marthastewart.com/) has many that you can make yourself. Type 'wreath' in the search box, and you should get quite a few hits.
I hope that helps!

Mine's not that great, but here's my first attempt at a wreath that I could make! This is my spring summer one. I have a berry wreath for the winter, and one with gourds and scarecrows for fall! :)

very majestic house! i think it need to be balanced with more substantial shrubbery. as this can get expensive, you could budget for a few every year. i would like to see 2 large planters on either side of the door, even topiaries if that is your style. i agree you should paint the door to match the shutters. during the holidays, a big green wreath with lots of red accents would be grand. have fun! i'm on the lookout for a wreath i love.

I agree that the front of the house needs more balance. One thing that would look really pretty is climbing roses on the pillars on either side of the front door. You can put a grid against the front and one side of the pillar for the roses to grow up.
We have these planted on the front of our house. This is the first year - I planted them this spring, so they're not tall yet, but I'll post a photo tomorrow when I take one! :)

I think a wreath like this one found on QVC (http://www.qvc.com/asp/frameset.asp?nest=%2Fasp%2FIsItemNumberRedirect.as p&search=SQ&frames=y&referrer=QVC&txtDesc=wreath&SearchClass=) would be really lovely:

Or some tall manicured juniper in decorative pots on each side of the door (would look really lovely with white lights during Christmas - or year-around):

Hey Janna...I know you just put in those plantings in front of your house and I like them! I would hate to hide those big beautiful windows in the front.

You could always hang some hanging baskets in between the pillars. That way you aren't blocking a lot of the windows. But I love the ideas that were posted so far, and might even incorporate a few on our porch too! :)

Thanks for the ideas, ladies! I think we will hang some plants between the columns. We actually just got back from Home Depot and Lowes. We were looking at buying two ferns until the lady at Lowes told us that they're not selling them anymore b/c the weather will be getting cooler within the next few weeks. I had no idea that ferns didn't last outside through fall and winter. Does anyone know which hanging plants do last through fall and winter? I live in Atlanta, so the weather here isn't too harsh.
I think we'll also get a couple of white rocking chairs for the front porch soon.
sarahh: I really like that first wreath you posted. Where did you find it?

I just had to post a picture. I made this wreath myself, inspired from a Martha Stewart wreath. It was so easy and I love it!

I have a question...do they still make magnetic wreath hangers/hooks for metal doors. I have looked everywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find one? TIA

Deanna1018 I saw one at Garden Ridge this past weekend. It did not hang over the door, it was round and had a super strong magnet on the back that made it stick to the door.... very cool. That way you don't have the long metal part showing on your door. It came apart in the back, and you could use it with glass doors as well. You kind of sandwiched the glass between the 2 parts of the magnet. I'll see if I can find a picture. It wouldn't work for us because our door is solid wood.

I googled *magnetic wreath hangers* and tons of sites came up. Here is a picture very similar to what I saw this past weekend.

thank you so much. I definitely need to buy one. My door is so naked without a wreath on it.

I don't think that's boring at all - I love natural-looking wreaths.

Thanks katmg and deanna. I do love the wreath. I have a very natural looking one for the Christmas season too. I just wish I had the "touch" I see other ladies have. I might actually go out this weekend and by some corn stalks. Wait, or is that tacky? I'm not sure where I'd put them!!

I was thinking of making this one myself
http://www.michaels.com/online/images/20243_lg.jpg
Seems fairly easy to make....
Materials -
Offray™ Ribbon, Gold Metallic, 3 yards
Beaded fruit, 2 pieces
Floral wire
Gold gilded fruit, 5 items
Hydrangea bush
PVC wreath, 24-inch
Shape branches of wreath.
Arrange and glue all fruit into wreath as desired.
Use ribbon to tie a multi-loop bow or use a custom-made bow. Wire bow to wreath as desired.
Cut green hydrangeas from bush, then cut apart hydrangeas. Glue hydrangeas into wreath to fill in.
Tip: Don't know how to make a multi-loop bow? Then purchase a custom-made bow from Michaels floral department or use the EZ BowMaker™ kit, also available at Michaels.
Use photo as a guide when assembling project.
