View Full Version : Would you consider this dangerous?

My DS is 4.5 mos old. He doesn't roll over, but has excellent control of his head, FWIW. In his crib is a blanket made of crocheted cotton. The holes in it are so large that we figure there is no suffocation hazard. But, my concern comes in the fact that DS LOVES it, oven covers his face with it, and frequently stuffs part of it in his mouth so he can chew on it.
Thoughts? It really has so many holes that simply with his face covered it can pose no risk, but I'm wondering if I'm fooling myself.
TIA.

i guess it would depend on how big it is. if its big enough to wrap around his neck and strangle him then id take it out immediately. when i was in high school i babysat an infant, he was somewhere between 4-6 months old i think, and one night after i put him in bed he was screaming and crying hysterically. i went in to see what was wrong and his blanket was completely wrapped around his head and he was freaking out. thank goodness it wasnt tightly wound around his neck, but it was such a close call.

I've go to check on my DS every night before I go to bed. I've always covered him with a blanket. One night, I went in and he had stuffed some of his blanket in his mouth. Other times, I'd put the blanket on him and I'd go in and check and it wouldn't be on his legs, but up over his arms and face. I'm overly paranoid, so I took the blanket out and now put him in warmer jammies so he doesn't get cold at night. No more blanket for him until he gets a bit older...

just want to add that i did used to cover my daughter with a blanket when she was little, but i would tuck both sides very tightly into the side of the crib so it wouldnt come loose as she was sleeping. she never managed to untuck it from the sides. she would somehow get herself on top of it but since it was never loose in the crib i felt ok with it. i stopped once she was really mobile though, as i worried about suffocation/strangulation.

Thanks very much. I guess just the very fact that I'm paranoid means I should remove it. I'll do it now before he gets more attached to it.
Thanks again.
