Hi, I'm in search of good, reasonably priced, & comfy toddler shoes. Oh, and cute. :)

I am willing to pay up to $45 for a good everyday pair, but not much more bc her feet grow amazingly fast!

I know of Robeez and Jack & Lily (cute for pre-walkers), Preschoolians(awesome for new walkers), See Kai Run (love 'em--stylish, flex sole & supple leather), & Stride Rite (not likin' the selection too much). Are there any others that have good flexible soles and good construction?

TIA,
Cindie

Nordstrom's at Valley Fair has a good selection of European and other shoes -- might want to check out the selection there. They're a bit pricey, but their stuff is good quality. If nothing else, they give out balloons ! ;)

We have a pair of SKR sandals and love them. We also have a pair of wiggees that are really cute with a good bottom and are machine washable.

just a little bit out of your price range (and that's when they're on sale!), my new favorite shoes are bear feet (http://www.bestfootforwardllc.com/search.asp?nobox=&scat=&stext=bear&stype=&sprice=&pg=1). have you tried zappos.com, they have a huge selection.

Love love love our See Kai Run shoes. We had less luck with Preschoolians (the first pair, both straps tore off after a month; the second pair ran purple dye all over anything whenever they got wet).

Elly, I will have to check out Nordstrom's! I do like European-styled shoes.

Nancy Drew, Pedoodles look like something I'm interested in. I wish they had more styles. I'm considering the white w/ the hearts.

Phart, Thanks for the tip on Wiggees. I've never heard of them. They do have a pair of plain white and the moccassins are cute.

Dana B, Bear Feet are what I like, but yeah...out of my price range for my little Hobbit.:p

Carol, We have the red bowling shoes. Everyone I know that has SKRs have a boy. I'm now, looking for a neutral pair of everyday shoes. I'm considering the white w/ the flower. Which pair of SKRs does Nora have?
ETA: That I want the black boots, but am afraid that they won't fit Taya for some reason. I've tried boots on her at other shoe stores & can't get them on her.

Cindie, I got these:

Yeah, they're green, but I have declared that I cannot win the war of matching Nora's shoes to her clothes. ;) They are SO cute.

Carol, those are really cute. And, very much my style--simple, but still stylish. I'm in love with SKR shoes. Maybe, I'll have to give in about matching, too. :)

A Toddler Shoe thread!!! you already know the ones Nikki likes SKR (like everyone else), and we got the same ones that Carol got for our tester. ;)

www.zappos.com has a lot of selection like Dana said.

But have you tried checking out payless (there are actually some good finds, that are not shown on the website and it's buy one get one half off right now)

There's is a kiosk in the Northridge/Woodland Hills mall where we get Nikki's sandals, they are imported from Japan and china. Very comfortable, soft, simple, cute, and not expensive I need to talk to the manager to open up a website so he can sell more shoes.

Good luck on the shoe hunt, sorry wasn't much help, but just wanted to talk shoes. :p

Sorry to go off subject a bit, but has anyone seen tall brown boots for toddlers?

carolc
09-01-2005, 02:28 PM
FWIW, we tried some Payless shoes and it didn't work well for us. Nora has only been in Robeez and Preschoolians till now, and she seemed to find them uncomfortable and kept making us take them off. I was worried it was just a new toddler "thing," but she loves her SKR shoes and asks me to put them on.

jewamese
09-01-2005, 03:32 PM
I've checked out Payless. I didn't see any flexible soled shoes there.

I liked Targets selection of shoes size 5 and under. They've got flexible soles and are cheap, but my li'l Hobbit's in a 6 now. I'm sure she'll be in 7 within a couple of mos.

We have a couple of shoes from Gymboree that were on clearance. I can tell she walks differently in them. Thus the quest. :)

i love those skr shoes! and thirty bucks works for me. i love getting noa colored shoes, everyone always comments on her green shoes.

cece hmm, i would think it was probably preschoolians, since that's what she's been wearing. maybe pazitos? which btw make a brown boot, i think.

my new issue with velcro shoes is that she can take them off, i had to run around the store today looking for a lost shoe

A question for those who have SKR shoes -

Are they good for a VERY active walker/runner? Will they hold up?

Just wondering - they are SUPER cute. I just visited their website and am in love with several styles!

"Are they good for a VERY active walker/runner? Will they hold up? "

I think A qualifies as that and pretty much yes. The bottoms hold up great. The only *issue* we have is the leather fading in places but I'm OK with that. He's worn them all Summer nearly every day and has gotten them soaking wet.

Brown boots from Preschoolians:

http://preschoolians.com/images/ItemImages/iwbstaywarmbrown_Asmall.jpg

DD and me, we love Preschoolians :)

The advantage over SKR is that Preschoolians come with insoles in 3 different widths. Wonderful for DDs narrow mini-feet.

Those SKR shoes are adorable!!! Here's my question - do I need to get DS fitted for his first shoe? Or can I just measure his feet and start out with the SKRs? Because those are wayyyy cuter than the plain white orthopedic stride rites!

Taya is very active, too. Her shoes held up just fine. The only thing is the leather is really, really soft. It can scuff very easy.

"do I need to get DS fitted for his first shoe? Or can I just measure his feet and start out with the SKRs? "

You can just measure them. Easiest way is to put his foot on a piece of paper, mark the big toe and heal and measure that.

carolc
09-06-2005, 02:55 PM
The SKR shoes do scuff. It's a bit of a bummer. I am slightly less in love with them than I was, but Nora still absolutely loves them, which is worth a lot in my book.

Has anyone here washed their SKR shoes? Ours have some "washable" paint on them.

Best shoes for chubby feet?

My DS is only 9 months old, so I'm not in a huge rush to buy him shoes, although he is cruising, so I'd like to be prepared!

He has outgrown his 12-18 month Robeez, so I'm guessing he'd be at least a size 5.5 or 6 by now. Any suggestions for a chubby-footed baby?

Thanks!

Sorry to disappoint those who don't like "Orthopedic" shoes, but if you have a wide footed baby about your only choice (and I looked fro 2 months) is Stride Rites in EE, EEE, or at minimum D. DS has very wide feet still and we tried and returned a dozen or so "Wide" shoes. We bit the bullet and bought the Stride Rites and he's so happy. ANd we get tons of compliments on the cute shoes. So they aren't that ugly since most of us wore them too as kids most people associate them with babies. That's just my two cents.

Just thought I'd share...

My husband lost one of DS' SKR shoes the day before our move ( - ok, I'm being a little unfair, but what the heck), so we flew across the country with a shoeless toddler. Yep, we are soooo winning parents of the year.

If it'll fit, put her shoes on her feet, then a pair of socks over her shoes (your socks, probably) then put the boots on. That'll make the boots snug, and the pair of socks will make them easy to get off.

DS finally grew into his SKR shoes and I'm so ad to report that they are not durable for us, at all! :( He has worn them twice and they look like utter crap. He wore them to a park and the rubber is worn and shedding and the shoe has not held its shape at all. DS is super active and I was afraid these would not hold up. I question if they will even last until he grows into the next size! :(

If anyone has any other shoe recommendations, I'd appreciate it!

Noah's shoes have all (he's on his 2nd pair) been Jumping Jacks. They're terrific. He didn't really walk in the last pair, but his current pair he wears every day (he only has one pair of shoes). He's had them since thanksgiving, and aside from the dirt and sidewalk chalk, they look brand new.

Does anyone know if the See Kai Run shoes come in wide? My DS has very wide feet and so we always have a problem finding him good shoes. I believe Stride Rite has sizes for wide feet, but I'd like to see other styles.

If anyone knows of any other places that sell "wide" feet sizes, I'd appreciate it.

DS has been wearing his SKR for a while, since September. They are looking worn now with scuffs on the toes. He's going to move into New Balance. We've been waiting on Nordstrom's to get a 6W and a 6-1/2W in for him to try on because we had the 6 regular and they seem a bit snug. They are finally in, so we are going to try them on tonight. Since they are sneakers, I don't think they'll look as worn as the leather on the SKRs.

I want stylish but I guess they don't need to last because I have been buying new shoes every 2 months. DS is rough and active. I also like to have 2 pairs in each size in different colors and an extra in case one gets wet! I also hate lace ups because they are too hard to put on.... that seems to limit my options. The Old Navy ones are cute but I need WIDE - his New Balance shoes are Extra Wide! :(

me too. Elliott is 2 and has 1 pair of SKRs that are too small, and one that is too big, and another pair of sandals (yes, I went crazy when they were on "sale") that is a little too big. And he's starting preschool soon, so I think maybe we'll need some close toed shoes (maybe I'm pulling that out of my ass, who knows). And damn it, I swore I wouldn't buy another pair of $30 shoes!!!

The SKRs (See Kai Run shoes) have held up pretty well for us, but $30, again? Grr.

DS is starting in the toddler room and apparently they "have to" wear shoes so I sent Robeez knockoffs from Target. Those will work for now but they are a little snug (does he have to wear socks with them?). So now with another thing to accessorize with, I have become obsessed with shoes! :)

DD has just in the past few weeks been walking full-time. I've tried SKR but they are very wide. I haven't been too happy with the selection, prices, or flexibility of stride rite either. We have 2 pairs of preschoolians so far (the I'm walking barefoot line) and I LOVE them! I think they are a great bridge between robeez type shoes and regular shoes, which just seem so stiff for my new (and still not very well coordinated) walker.

I read on a shoe website, that you measure the foot then add .6 inches (for the optimal room for toes). Then base shoe size from that. My son's foot measured 4.75 and he is in a 5.5. HTH

How about winter shoes/boots?

We're in Michigan, and we get quite a bit of lake effect snow dumped on us each winter. The last few years, DD has worn Lands End snow flurry boots:

http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod//0,,1_2_52358_58377_130296_108743_5:view=5,00.html? sid=4541132527811142960&CM_CARRY=1&CM_MERCH=PAGE_52373

They are great for playing in the snow and keep the child's feet warm and dry. And they come in a variety of fun colors. If your DD will just be walking a little this winter (e.g. walking across snowy parking lots on your way to/from the car), those boots you posted should be fine. But I probably would choose something else if she would be actually playing outside in snow, as snow could leak in through the laces. Just my $.02!

FWIW - the Lands End boots are $25 and you can also find them at Sears stores (so you can avoid any shipping charges). I purchased a brand new pair for DD to wear this winter on eBay for $10 plus shipping. It will be her 3rd pair of Lands End snow flurry boots. Yep, we like 'em THAT much :)

I think SKRs are the equivalent of wide, not extra wide. My DS wears XW and it's so difficult to find cute shoes! The side of his foot was overflowing over the side of the sole when wearing SKRs, so they were clearly too narrow for him. The leather is soft and pretty stretchy.

Also the newer styles of the pedoodles (the runners and the mary janes) are supposedly much narrower than the older stayles (like flower power and princess). My DD can wear the runners no problem, is in about a 5 and wears the pedoodles XL in this style.

Okay, so I really liked DS's Merrells ... for about 2 weeks! That's about how long it took for them to get all scuffed and yucky looking. They are not a good kid's shoe. I think they're suede.

We went to Nordstroms last night and bought him a pair of New Balance athletic shoes with the velcro opening. They're almost exactly like the one's he had before and we loved them. I can't find them online right now. They're navy with yellow trim.

I bought some sporty mary janes - they are a little generous on DD, but I think they'll be ok.... she just has a really narrow, skinny, thin foot!

KGif - the wide insert honestly did not seem that wide to me - I don't think they would work for DS!

nj, I don't have those specific ones, but I have the black ones with the butterfly but they are not mooshu brand. From what I could tell when I was researching squeaker shoes, it seems that they are all made by the same chinese factory because the same designs are on a million different websites and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the shoes whatsoever, just the label inside. I have been buying mine from angelcovers.org because it's a good cause and the price is pretty good as well. I take the squeakers out though because they drive me nuts! I love all the options everyone has given here! I have a question...

DD is now 15.5 months and wore Robeez last winter when she was an infant, if she wore shoes over the summer they were just for show. She started walking at the end of October and we've had her either in Robeez or Pedipeds (which I love). She's wearing the 6-12month size of Pedipeds and they're getting too small (size 4-5) and I bought the 12-18 month size (5.5 - 6.5) and they're HUGE (as in her toes are almost peeking out of the "hole" in the mary jane!). She's also grown out of her 6-12 month Robeez and I want more of a sole than Robeez. We took her to Stride Rite yesterday to get her measured (I HATED all their shoes for girls, but did have some cute boy shoes) and she measures right at a 4, so they said get a 4.5.

DH thinks DD needs more of a sole than the pedipeds have (which I don't agree with, but whatever:rolleyes: ), so I've been looking at the SKR's. They don't have them in any store where I live so that I can examine and try on, but do you think a size 5 would be way too big or would they work? Is the sole flexible enough to be a good transition shoe after the Pedipeds? I see that zappos has a price gaurantee and free shipping each way (which would be nice in case I don't like them), is that the best place to get them from? TIA!!

I think the SKRs in a 5 would be too big. My daughter wears a 3.5 at Stride Rite and her SKRs in 3s still fit just fine. Yes, she's 17 months old with the world's smallest feet. SKRs are really wide and very room. Totally not like Stride Rite at all, IMO.

Hope that helps!

SKRs definitely run big (and wide). You can try www.piperlime.com, they also have free shipping both ways (buy 2 different sizes if you want to try them). They are $36, a few are on clearance for less.

DD is a 5 in SR and SKR in 5 are still roomy, but she can wear them w/out tripping. Instead of the "size", I go by the length of her foot. Measure with her standing from heel to big toe.

Do a search for a 10% off piperlime code too. TREAT was working at one point.

ETA: TREAT is for gap/banana rep/Old Navy card holders only. Ebates.com offers 6% back on Piperlime purchases. HTH!

I am surprised that people say that the SKR shoes run big... I recently ordered DD some 7's, and when they came I found that they were smaller than the 6's she has from Target (they are stride rite knock offs). I even used the size chart, and they were so small on her that her toes came all the way to the end of the shoe. My friend also told me that she thinks they run small, since her DD wears 5's normally and 6's in the SKR shoes.

Thanks for all the input on the SKR's!! I ordered 2 pairs (Angelina and Sofia) on Monday from Zappos.com and I had them at my house on Tuesday!! Can't say enough good things about that company! Anyway, silly me ordered both of them in a size 4 instead of one in a 4 and one in a 5. The 4's fit perfect which means they weren't going to fit for long. So my mom and I measured her foot and it measures 12cm. A 4 is 12.3cm and a 5 is 13.1cm. SKR recommends 0.5cm - 1cm extra room...so as I'm experiencing with pedipeds, she's in between sizes, she really needs a 4.5. So, my mom took her yesterday to a boutique here and in town and tried on a 5 and they are big, but I imagine within a month they'll fit great and they're fine with thick socks right now. She got her the Gretchens and they're adorable!
http://seekairun.com/images/240x240_gretchen.jpg

Then I got on ebay and bought new in box Angelina's in a 5 for $22 shipped:
http://www.zappos.com/images/724/7242789/1733-263355-d.jpg

and also got these brand new in box ones from the same seller for $30 shipped:
http://www.zappos.com/images/724/7242788/1733-263354-d.jpg

So, I sent the ones back to zappos.com and it never cost me anything!

As far as sizing, I do think they they're different than other shoes...DD has sandals from various places like Target in a 3 that still don't fit her (too big), but she's wearing a 4 in SKR's. It sucks that sizing isn't standard, oh well.

Thanks so much for turning me into a SKR fan, they're adorable!

Great buys!

Oh man I just looked at their website..DD is going to have to have one of each summer pair! I'll definitely get her the Saras, I'm glad they have a plain white one for summer. And the Jessicas...and Haileys...:o

I love the Karen Anns too, we have those and DD wears them practically every day. Good thing she wears a lot of pink. I actually found a pair of Katelyn's at a boutique last week which I haven't seen anywhere since I bought her first pair last summer.. They only had a 7, so I bought up and she can use them come Spring I'm sure.

Wildcat-- That was the problem we had with DD's first pair...the 4s fit perfectly, so she could only wear them for a few weeks, but the 5s were huge. I found though that she grew into them quickly and even if they were a bit big she still walked great.

Yes my DD wears her Karen Anns whenever she has pink on too (almost everyday)! :) Hey how do you clean the lighter pink suede part? DD has gotten hers dirty and I wonder how to clean them up a bit - maybe a gentle brush and soap and water?

I love the Jessicas and Haileys from the new line as well...oh boy.

I've tried to wipe them with a damp cloth but I'm not sure it really helps. I'd love to find some sort of way to get them looking a little cleaner since they do get dirty, just hard material to clean, you know?

The other great thing about SKR is that we had one pair of Karen Anns where the laces broke. I called the store I bought them, who gave me SKR's phone # and she said we'll send you a new pair to the store you bought them. No questions asked. We've had perfect luck with the latest pair. Great customer service, that makes me want to keep buying the shoes! I saw you post somewhere about Babystyle carrying them too, I'm keeping my eye out for sales or coupons there too. I haven't had much luck on Ebay - it seems the bids get pretty high.

Anyway I love SKRs and I'm always searching for a deal. :D

yeah I posted in CC closet about Babystyle, but they are $36+ there. Wild Child in Arlington I've paid $32. And, I think they've had the best selection (which doesn't say much!).

I ended up paying $35 I think for the Katelyn's last week at Giggles in Andover, but I hadn't seen those (the green ones) anywhere else.

The in store selections of all the stores I've been to just aren't great. Each store carries one or two styles for boys and girls...it's ridiculous!

DD wears them to school so they do get filthy! Let me know if you figure something out. I think I tried a little woolite or something along with the damp cloth and it didn't help.

ETA -- SKRs are the only thing I am ever willing to spend $30 on for DD. Seriously. I'm such a bargain hunter for all of her clothes and other shoes. DP just told me to get a new job with a salary increase so we can buy DD the whole SKR summer line, LOL.

Has anyone bought Lelli Kellys ? They look so cute and colorful but I'm wondering if the sole is too thick and heavy for a toddler. Any thoughts?

I was so excited to order our first SKR shoes for DD after all the great reviews, but I was really disappointed in the quality. I know the soles of kids shoes should be flexible at this age, but they seemed flimsy all around.

I thought they were really cute, and would use them as indoor shoes if they weren't so expensive, but they would get trashed in a day if I let DD wear them to the park - she is a pretty rough and tumble kind of girl. But DD is almost 17 months old - I think we would have gotten some us out of them when she was in the early walking stages. Guess we'll be sticking with stride rite - if only there were an outlet a little closer!

SKR have two different styles in soles, they have a softer sole which looks like it's been sewn into the shoe and then they have a style that has a little bit stiffer sole, but all around they aren't a great shoe for older children. Although I have to say that AJ has been very hard on his shoes 9 we are very fortunate that my sister gets them 50% off and so we have a bunch of SKR's) I don't know that I will still be getting them once he gets older. He just got the cutest shoes from my sister but I can't remember what they are calle right now I'll have to check tomorrow and post about them :)

Does anybody have both SKRs and Preschoolians?
I'm getting ready to but DD's first walking shoes, and I'm between those 2, from what I've read here on CC people like both very much.
I was just wondering if somebody could give me a review between the 2. TIA

I just bought preschoolians, but they are like robeez. I think I like Robeez better. The elastic around the top is tighter and leaves marks on dd feet. Also, even though they are correcting the issue by sending me a new pair and letting me keep the old pair, I custom designed the shoes and they used the wrong color for the main part of the shoe. I was a little disappointed because they were for dd bday party, but I got over it and their customer service has been fantastic. They are totally bending over backward to correct the mistake.

I'd say See Kai Runs are for those with wider feet, Preschoolians come with wide, medium and narrow inserts to place inside the shoe. The Walking Barefoot Preschoolians' sole is much thinner and more flexible than SKR. I think SKR has cuter styles and Preschoolians are really expensive for what they are. The thing I LOVE about Preschoolians is the window on the bottom of the shoe so that you can really see when your child is outgrowing the shoe.

I really haven't cared for any of the styles, beyond Robeez, for boys. I bought my son a pair of 2-3 Robeez last fall, and sometime after Christmas they went missing! At least I only paid $8 for them (Just Between Friends consignment sale)! I guess I'm just really picky about how shoes look. I ended up getting him some cheapo "skate" shoes at Walmart, which he loves now. He gets very attached to his shoes and does NOT like to switch! He was wearing hand-me-down Sketchers in the interim - we bought the Walmart shoes because he was outgrowing the Sketchers.

Just for a heads up, Nike Sunray sandles are great! I bought some for my boys last year and they both loved them. The soles are not super thick like most sandals, and they're very flexible as well.

As for shoes in our household....

Slip on Vans are a favorite here. Not only are they easy to get on and off (she can even get them on and off by herself), but they are super cute and stylish.

BUT her current "obsession" is anything "dress up" or "princess" like. She insisted on wearing these yesterday (just bought them the night before - for her b-day party in a few weeks).....

I absolutely ADORE my local children's shoestore (I know that isn't much help to you). The owner isn't pushy about buying shoes and he knows his stuff. I have found that (in general) smaller stores actually have a better selection than stores like Stride Rite, where they carry limited selections for toddler boys and more stuff for bigger boys.

We usually shop at Nordstorms. DS wears XW shoes and we've found that very few places carry them. If they do carry them then it's usually sold out. Nordstroms sales people have been very helpful in helping us find shoes that fit DS. It's more expensive but it's better than driving all over town looking for a cheaper pair.

Whenever I go to the outlet malls, I usually stop by the Stride Rite outlet. The price is usually 50% cheaper than Nordstorms.

MIL wants to buy DD a pair of nice white mary janes for use on Easter, Mother's Day etc.

She used to be a Stride White lover, then after I bought DD See Kai Runs became obsessed with them. However, they don't make dressy white shoes! I think she just loves the flexibility of them. Anyhoo...any suggestions? She said she doesn't care what they cost (though let's be reasonable and say no more than $50 cuz she won't get a lot of use out of them). I was looking at the pedipeds...not sure they are dressy enough.

Would love suggestions!

malala - I've been wondering the same thing about Pedipeds. I think they're adorable and my DD wore them for the first 3 months or so that she was walking, but we switched to See Kai Runs. I would love to buy some of them for summer, but DD seemed to slip around on them quite a bit and I'm worried she'd be falling all the time (and she's not the most coordinated kid anyway;)).

Has anyone heard anything about or had any experience with Rachel Kids? My mom found them on zappos.com and bought a few that are being shipped today, but I'm curious has tried them or seen them IRL and can say how flexible they are, etc.? Here's a pic of a pair of the sandals:
http://www.zappos.com/images/732/7322158/4998-427086-d.jpg

I'm having the hardest time with sandals for DD. She's wearing a size 5 in SKR's, but they're really big on her. For sandals, they can't be that big bc I'm afraid she'll trip on the end of the toe and fall (see a theme?;)). However, if I buy a 4, I'm afraid she'll only get to wear them for a few weeks. But, in the size 5 in SKR sandals, her toes don't even peek out of the sandal part! I guess I should go to one of the boutiques here and try on a 4 (I bought a pair of 5's online already). Anyone else really need a 4.5 and what do you do?

Has anyone bought these SKR sandals? I really like them but I'm not sure if they'll scuff really bad or not. We had a closed toe mary jane style (Sofia) last fall and they scuffed the first time she wore them all along the front. Would the sandals do that or do you think they wouldn't scuff as bad since they have an open toe? DD will be turning 2 in July this summer and is a VERY active/busy walker/climber/running machine.

Daisy--

daisysue62
03-21-2007, 10:55 AM
Do you have problems with your SKRs scuffing? I should take a picture of DD's shoes because they look awful. All the pink is rubbed off the front! I love the shoes other then the scuffing issue.

DD will probably wear a lot of them since white sandals are a summer staple here. I was also thinking about finding a pair of white fisherman sandals from Stride Rite or maybe some Saltwater sandals but I'm worried the Saltwaters would be too stiff.

Anyone seen any other good white summer sandals that would go with everything? I'd LOVE to buy a pair of Bear Feet sandals but I'm just not willing to fork out $65 for summer sandals for my toddler.

EJH

Yes we do have issues with scuffing. It's my one beef with the shoe. And I can't get them to clean up, you know?

wildcat
03-21-2007, 12:34 PM
I have mixed results on the scuffing. My DD has a pair of the Gretchens (brown) and they don't scuff at all. She also has a pair of Angelina's that have scuffed on the toe (scuffed pretty much the first time she wore them, but it really hasn't gotten any worse). You can kinda see in these pics:
http://www.billyandashlee.com/gallery/albums/wpw-20070314/normal_IMG_7535.jpg

(please ignore her goofy face in this one, very silly mood that day!)
http://www.billyandashlee.com/gallery/albums/wpw-20070314/normal_IMG_7532.jpg

However, we have had problems with the velcro on the Gretchens, it doesn't stay "velcrod" unless you rub on it really hard. It took us about a month to figure out why Lauren's shoes were always falling off (don't have this problem with the Angelina's). I emailed SKR and had a response the next day saying they couldn't swap them out directly bc they only do wholesale, but to take them back to the retail location and they would send me a new pair there (annoying, but ok). Maybe if you wrote to them they could say whether it's a problem with everypair or maybe they'll send you new ones?

We had an issue with the Karen Ann laces breaking. I called the store where I got them, they told me that I should call SKR and see how she wanted to handle it since it's a family business and she likes to know about probs. So I did call her and she said I needed to handle it with the store where I bought them, so I did. Anyhoo, they exchanged them. Overall it was easy to exchanged them though there was some back and forth in terms of who would take care of it.

Ok, so I think I'm going to get DD a pair of the runner sandals for this summer.

I printed out their chart and her foot fell in between 22 and 23 so I was going to get the 23 but when I look at their conversion chart it says a 23 is = to a US size 7.25. My DD barely wears size 5 shoes right now.

So which should I go off of, the sizing from her foot on the chart and get the 23 or should I order a 21?

How have you guys found them to run?

Also, do you have any other suggestions for cute white sandal shoes in the $45 range. I don't want to buy her cheap sandals...I know cheap sandals hurts my feet, I don't want her to have to deal with that.

LexyLou, I do believe that my daughter was wearing a size 5-5.5 when she was wearing a Preschoolians 21, too.

I haven't ordered from them in a while (my DD is now 3), but I think they have a great return policy where they give you a postage paid envelope to return the shoes if they don't fit or don't work for you. You might just want to order a 21 and see.

I've had great experiences with them. I have ordered a few pairs. The owner is great to work with. I'll probably order a pair for my 2nd DD in a few mos. when she is one.

I'm tempted to start a new thread, so I hope this gets some traffic and I get some replies before going out shopping today! HELP!

DS is 14 months old. He has had some physical therapy and is getting ready to walk. His PT recommended I get him some good quality, structured "high top" shoes given his particular situation. She recommended Stride Rite or Ecco brand. I have found cute "high top" styles like these Eccos (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2901048?tuid=000006cb-006f-0861-6c61-726765727669&id=6676390&largeImg=0). I also like these (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2936422?tuid=0000051d-006f-0861-7377-617463685f70&color=DYO&chanelImage=False) but am not sure if they fit the bill on being high-tops, or if they are just standard walkers.

My question is a fashion one: We live in a warm climate and he is already occasionally wearing shorts, and will be in them a lot soon. Can he wear "high top" shoes like this with shorts or will he look ridiculous? :o

ETA: Obviously I'll put DS in whatever shoes he needs no matter how they look, but I was just curious to hear what you all think, or if you find others online that would be cute going into Spring/Summer! TIA!

ETA#2: I got him the second pair, but in the Navajo/Earth color. They seemed like high tops compared to the other shoes at Nordstrom, and I think the color is good for all uses and seasons!

http://shop.crocs.com/pc-35-4-kids-mary-janes.aspx?reqid=35&reqProdTypeId=41p&subsectionname=footwear&section=products

We have a pair for my DS. He often chooses to wear them (but not exclusively). He really likes them because he can have some success putting them on and off. I like that they can easily be washed off. We often wear ours to the beach.
Sizing is tricky...but they most certainly fit the largest size printed on the bottom.

DS was given these Puddle Jumper Shoes (http://www.puddlejumpershoes.com) as a gift for his b-day and I really like them.

They stay on well and have a flexible yet comfy sole. DS is just learning to walk and he did great in these today :)

DD has a pair of Cayman Crocs and LOVES them. Some days she wakes up and asks to put her "crawks" on over her footed PJs. :p Rarely can I get her to wear any other shoes now without a fight -- the kid loves her Crocs! I was going to get her a pair of MJs when she moved up the next size, and we also have a pair of Croclings. I'm not crazy about the Crocling colors, but I thought the band around the ankle would help it stay on better. We have no issues with the Caymans slipping, so I should have returned them but I think I waited too long.

If ShoeBuy would ever restock their sizes, they usually have $10 off coupons floating around with free shipping which makes them more reasonable. DD wears the 4/5 size which is difficult to find on-line.

Beach/Water Shoes what does everyone recommend? I was thinking of these (http://www.landsend.com/pp/SolidMeshWaterShoes-59481_163935_1055.html?CM_MERCH=PAGE_58660&sid=0709106699471151020) Land's End ones.

any other suggestions? TIA!

DD has a pair of regular crocs and she seems to like them really well. Dh got her Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck jibbitz to put in the holes and she loves to talk about the duck and mouse on her shoes! She'll be two in July and wears 4/5 in Crocs right now.

Please HELP me....

I am in search of some toddler girls "water/sport" sandals? I have looked at normal mall stores (Nordie, penny's, payless, CP), Kmart, Target, Walmart, ebay and my local shoe store and cannot find any!!! The only place that had some were Old Navy, but not in DD's size so I couldn't try them on. I could have bought a pair for DS at any one of the above stores. I really want something that has velcro and are not the croc-type shoes, but ones that dry quickly. I did see one tan pair that I might have to make due with, but I would prefer white or a light summer color.

Anyone.....

Target has water shoes. They're in teh swim section, not the shoe section. (Where the life vests, kickboards, etc are)

A month or two ago, Target also had the mesh shoe kind in their normal shoe section. They were in where the flipflops were on the bottom. I bought some for Lauren but she freaked when I put them on her and I had to return them (she'll only wear see kai runs:rolleyes:). I think they were pink/white.

Is this what you both are talking about?:

I have seem those around, but I am looking for something more like this:

or

I found the second pair at REI.com - might go try these out. At $25 it was a bit more than I want to spend only becasue she is in between sizes right now. I can also order two sizes of the ON ones and return the one that doesn't fit.

For more "sandal-type" beach shoes, you can try these from landsend:

Lands end action sandals (http://www.landsend.com/pp/ActionSandals-56578_153755_-1.html?sid=4783138019181190000&CM_MERCH=PAGE_56544)

the link is to their overstocks page so they are cheaper.

I'll try Target for the mesh-type shoes (I want a closed toe/heel).

thanks!

Just wanted to thank everyone posting in this thread. The advice was very helpful. We finally bought some properly fitting shoes for DD. We found out from the clerk that fitted her that she has small narrow feet. That's why we couldn't get the SKR to fit her well. There are a few models of the Stride Rite that fit her well.

She got these for summer sandals:

And these to wear with think socks:

Both are appropriate for walking outside and playing at the park.

IzzyJune2006 We have the same SR Guppy sandals and DD loves them.

Lands End Mesh Water Shoes I bought a pair for DD and she seems to like them. The soles are very flexible, which is nice. I like how they have a toggle to fasten them up. Seems like a good quality shoe.

There are a lot of good examples listed in this thread.

See Kai Run
Pedipeds
Prescholians
Stride Rite

are some of the brands at the top of my head. Basically you want something with a flexible sole.

I bought DS a pair of sandals from Payless and while they are cute and seem pretty comfy, his feet stink when he wears them. We have two pairs of Stride Rites and a pair of toddler sandals from Land's End and we don't have the problem with either of them so I think we'll stick with the Stride Rites from now on.

My son has seen a phys therapist a little bit, and she wanted his first real shoes to have good ankle support. I went to Nordstrom, but didn't fit my son properly and I ended up having to take those shoes back. Now I will only buy from a local store that has been around since I was a kid. They seem to know exactly what shoes are appropriate for when, and they really know what to look for with fit. They fitted my son first in Primigi sandals and we love them. They look almost as good as they day we got them, too.

How much did your toddler's feet grow between the ages of 2 and 3? DD's foot growth seems to have slowed down since last fall and I'm feeling pretty lucky that her shoes from last fall lasted all the way through sandal season! Is that likely to happen again this year, or are we due for a big growth spurt? She's currently a 5.5-6 size shoe and is 23 months. I'm guessing she'll need 6 or 7's this fall through spring.

Can someone tell me how See Kai Run run size wise? I know they run wide which is perfect for DS, but I am trying to decide between a 6 and 7 (to be worn fall winter. DS measured 5.5W (round up to 6) at Sride Rite last week. Thanks :)

Mel --

Depends on the style, but my thoughts would be for winter to go for the 7. Their feet grow SO fast...DD was barely in her 5s then 6s before it was time for 7s.

Question

We're leaving for a beach vacation in a week and a half and I want to get DD some crocs. She had a fake pair from BRU but those disappeared at daycare and I'd really like to get her some that are a bit better constructed. Anyone have tips for a good online dealer?

How do their sizes run...she's a 7 in other shoes....

Thanks!!

EJH - I ordered DS Crocs from Zappos. They came the next day free shipping and also offer free return shipping, which is good if you not sure of the size. DS wears a 5.5 (stride rite) and has Crocs in size 4/5. They won't fit much longer though. The next sizes are 6/7, and 8/9, not sure which would fit you DD best.

I just ordered the purple mary jane crocs from Nordstroms...zappos didn't have her size in the color/style we decided on. Bummer, because Nordstrom shipping is slow!! I might take a look around some of the local stories who carry them and just return the nordstrom ones should I find them. Everything I was reading said they seem one size bigger than other shoes, so I got her a 6/7, hope those work!

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but do you buy shoes ahead for your DC? I found some great SKR styles that I love on sale from an on-line website, but DD is only a size 4 now. If I buy sizes 5 and 6 now, will I regret it in case 1) she somehow has a major growth spurt and skips 1 of the sizes (can they go from size 4 to 6?) or 2) she or I no longer like the style a few months from now? Any other things I need to think about before shelling out the money?

I really like those L&L shoes with the elephants. I know my DS would love them!

Smiles33 My son is nearly 2 and wearing a size 8. :o He has pretty consistently moved up a 1/2 size every 3 months--until recently and its been like 5 months. If I found a good deal I would buy because he has been so predictable. For you I think it depends on how good of a deal it is and if the shoes would work in any season. If the shoes aren't really for a specific season I would probably go ahead and buy them.

Desperately need shoe help over here!!!

DD is 10.5 months and is now a full time walker; she does not crawl at all anymore. However, she is veryyyyy tiny - about 15lbs, so it seems that many of the 'first walker' shoes are too big, as many start at size 4 +.

We had her foot measured today and they said she was beteeen a 2 & 3, but they only carried Stride Rites, and had none in that size.
There are no shoe stores here that carry anything appropriate for a baby, so I'll have to order online. Also, I am in Canada, so want to order from a Canadian site, because of duty charges, etc.

Any advice on what to get. Like I said, she's so little, but nearly running :D:rolleyes: Her Robeez are fine most of the time, but for walking outside, they aren't really appropriate for full time walking.

roadrunner - Pedipeds!!! My DD wore robeez and pedipeds before she started walking and then for about the first 3 months after she started walking. I LOVE pedipeds! If she can actually wear a size 3, my vote for a more "real shoe" are the see kai runs. It's still pretty much the only shoe my daughter will wear (she's almost 22 months and in a size 4). They're really flexible and a great shoe. Robeez, Pedipeds and SKR's are the only shoes she's ever worn (I'm not a fan of Striderite's, they don't seem flexible to me at all and DD hated them when she tried them on). Other brands I've heard good things about are primigi, preschoolians, and jumping jacks.

All this talk of fall shoes makes me want to shop!
