Lumpia is a Philipino eggroll and it is to die for!! I was in the Navy and that's where I first tried them. They are crispy fried and dipped in a sweet and sour sauce. They are usually made with white meat pork and veggies. I would love to have a recipe if anyone has one they have tried, or if someone is of Philipino descent. TIA!!

My coworker is Filipina and makes awesome Lumpia, I'll see if I can get her recipe for you.

I LOVE Lumpia. When my father was in the military we had Filipino friends who make this often. I personally don't have a recipe, but I'll see if my mom might have one.

yay!! Thanks so much. I haven't had lumpia since 1996 when I got out of the Navy. I ate it soo much while in. No one around here knows about lumpia or has ever had it. I have even tried to call around and see if I can order it and have it delivered. No dice.

It's really pretty simple to make Lumpia Shanghai. There are a few different types of lumpia, but that's the kind you're asking about - fried, w/ pork. My husband, who doesn't love most of the filipino food my family serves cannot stop eating these.

The first thing you need to do is go to an Asian store and find lumpia wrappers. (They're essential, regular egg roll wrappers won't do.) You'll find them in the freezer case. It's a flat square box, usually w/ red and white print. Once you do that, the rest is easy. There's usually a recipe on the box, but you can mix up whatever you want.

I usually mix together ground pork, chopped green onions, water chestnuts, salt & pepper. That's it. Alternatively, you can mix in an egg or chopped shrimp too - that's traditional, but not necesary. Then you put a small amount in a wrapper, roll it up and fry it. It really couldn't be any easier. You can make up a sauce, (I can dig up a recipe if you want), but what we usually do is just serve it with "chili sauce" - you'll find that in the Asian store too. You'll know it b/c it's bright red w/ chilis floating in it, and it almost always has a picture of roast chicken on the bottle.

Hope that helps. Enjoy!
