Since I am having kids at the wedding (probably around 10) I have planned on having children friendly favors because I have wine for the adults. I have purchased these little stuffed elephants that have a clear (soft plastic) belly to them and they zip up the back. The original pictures had them shown with red hots candy in the belly - not particularly what I am interested in.

Here is what they look like (I just have bells stuffed in at the moment):

Any thoughts on candy choices to put in them? Should I do individually wrapped candy or not? If you are a parent what would you prefer? Is chocolate the best way to go? I could go on with questions like these which is why I am in a quander about what to do.

I would not put in hard candy that could be a choking hazard. Otherwise i'd do a mix of chocolate and non-chocolate candies. Individually wrapped is good. I would probably buy a halloween candy variety bag and use things like that.

That's a great idea! One thing to think of though- unless you know for sure none of the kids have allergies, make sure none of the candy has peanuts or peanut butter in it. So many kids are allergic to that, its just safe to do without unless you know for sure.

Another idea- without knowing ages. I had three kids in my wedding, ages 7-10. I bought them crayons and coloring books and plain paper to draw on. They loved it. You can get coloring books or plain paper tablets at a dollar store, and with back to school now you can get boxes of crayons real cheap at Walmart or similar stores. They have the smaller boxes for like 3/$1.

Good luck!

When I had my wedding we did cookies of each child's initial. Then we got icing for them to ice them themselves. They loved them!

We also did coloring books and hired an HRS ceritifed babysitter (after school care teacher) to take the kids to the smaller room next door and had it set up with videos and Nintendo or Game Box or whatever it was that was popular @ the time LOL.

How about customizable M&M's. You could get them in your colors and with a message printed on them. Here is the link. (http://shop.mms.com/customized/printing/step1.asp?sc_cid=DR_CALLOUTSHOP01)

Cute idea!

When I read the title of your thread, I thought the question was going to be, "I can afford either to invite kids or have favors. What should I do?" Heh! I love the stuffed animals, but I'll let the moms suggest candies. :D

Sevilla, those were some of the same lines I was thinking, I like the idea of using Halloween candy.

bunny nose, that's a good point about the nuts! A great idea about the coloring books, I could go to the dollar store and take care of that easily. The kids are ranging from 1 to 10 so that could be a big help.

HeatherFL, those cookies sound like a wonderful idea. I like the thought of a babysitter, and there is a room right off the area of the reception - something I may look into.

sublime311, you know I hadn't thought about that and Christmas M&Ms will be plentiful around that time.

kitlyn, yeah I realized my typo after I hit the button. I tried to edit it but it won't let me get to that so I am stuck with 'or'. I was wondering what people might think of it - LOL!

Yeah, I was going to vote that you go without favours and keep the kids. The whole reason I clicked on this thread was to see which you were picking :)

That's okay: you made me smile last night and I'm sitting here grinning away again today. (I'm sick, or I'd be rolling under the table laughing, so that would result in a major coughing fit.) So thanks for bringing some amusement into my life when I'm not feeling well. I could SO see someone having asked something like this Over There and being serious about it! :D
