Hey all, I debated about whether or not to include Alexander but since the majority of you were with me through the whole twin pregnancy as well as the live and still birth, I do want him listed. Hope it's okay.
I'm still accessing the WC boards but they are such a pain in the patootie to figure out that I spend more time on CC. However, I know some of the girls are sticking with the WC due to time constraints so I'll be going back and forth between both.
Thanks for setting this up, Meri. :D

sophia ~ I think that it's perfectly fine to include Alexander's status. I'll see if I can find the angel image we used on the other board or another one.

Liz, Sophia and Mrs. Chappy: The babies are adorable! I can't beleive how big they are all getting.
I forget who asked about napping...I think it was over at WC. DS has decided he only needs 10-20 minute naps. It is making me crazy. I get so tired and run out of things to do with him? What kinds of things does everyone do with thier little ones?
I read with him, play on the floor with him, sing, play tickle games, let him play on his playmat or in the bouncy seat. I'm at a loss....

sophiapb - I think adding Alexander's stats are great. I don't think we should not include him just cause he's in heaven.
ps, I'm eeek right up there with you at 36. and also thanks for the input on the naps. yes, DS sleeps WELL through the night with the first feeding now about 6-7 hours in. the next is 2-3 hours later then again 2-3 hours later for a total of 11-12 hours of "night-time" sleep. I feel LUCKY I have a sleeper at night. It sucks during the day cause the naps are short but I'd rather have the good night's sleep.
DS also is now on his 2nd cold! I don't think I'm over exposing him anywhere nor letting strangers touch or breathe on him but he's managed to get another cold before his 3rd month bday. :( I took him to the ped today and said his lungs were clear, just to watch to make sure he didn't get worse.
I love all the new pics moms! All the babies are soooooooooo cute.

GG,
Your son is too adorable! Look at all that hair!!
Sophia,
I agree with all the other ladies. Alexander is one of ours...always and forever.
Sleeping
Usually goes to bed around 10 or 11 and then sleeps until 5 or 6. She'll stay awke for an hour, go back to sleep and sleep until 9 or 10. She usually takes 1 2.5 hour nap during the day and a couple of shorter naps (about 45 min. to an hour).

Liz - do you swaddle for all the naps and at night? what's your trick to get the big 2.5 hour daytime nap?

I hope to get to post and do the updates tomorrow. We are trying to find out where our close friend and her children are after the hurricane. They are in Gulfport. We used to live down there and know a good number of people. Now if only we could hear from them. At least those that lived on base are okay. Now they may not have a home on base though. But they do have their lives so that is something to be thankful for. DH and I have talked several times about moving back down there. Our families wouldn't like it (they didn't like us being down there the last time but we had to be down there for DH's job/training).
Anyway, I thought I'd just let you all know why I hadn't been doing any updates. Hope you all understand.

where is the BF support thread? i'm still figuring out this website. DS gets so sleepy at night that he does not feed well on the breast..so i just give hima bottle. its upsetting to me b/c i used to give him the breast and then bottle..in the morning our feedings are going well..but after 3, when i start giving him formula after the breast..i feel like he still doesn't get enough but hesitate to increase the formula b/c i want him to get breast milk. AM thinking of just pumping in the afternoons...

Liz: how do you get your daughter to nap..in a swing? crib? carseat..just curious..my little guy will not nap in his crib...and now the swing isn't working so well..so then he is cranky b/c doesn't get in good naps. The carseat in the car or st roller works well but only when i am running around.

Naps
My secret is swaddling. She still loves it. As soon as she starts showing signs of fatigue, I swaddle her up, give her a pacifier, and hold her until the pacifier drops out of her mouth. LOL! Then I ever-so-carefully walk her upstairs and lay her down in her crib. She sleeps a lot better since we've bought the crib wedge for the crib, as we always had her bassinet mattress elevated. If I let her sleep in her swing (which I usually try not to) she'll sleep for 3 or 4 hours! She wasn't good at napping in her crib at first. She'd only nap for 45 minutes to an hour at a time. But the more and more we do it, I guess she's getting used to it.
Meri,
Of course we understand! I hope you are able to get news from your friends soon!

Mrs. Chappy - sometimes my DS still is too sleepy in the night to feed, so I tickle/rub his ear, pat his butt, rub his head, etc. anything to get him to stir enough to eat a decent feeding. When he was just born, I resorted to the cold washcloth on his face and body. That worked plenty to get him to stay awake just enough to eat.
Liz - I always swaddle at night which is great and didn't always swaddle in the day. I think the inconsistency in my daytime nap routine isn't helping. I'm trying to now stick to swaddling for every nap in the day. Going back to basics...
Meri - Hope you hear from your friends. Its sad to hear about all the loss in the south.

I will say that she's only been sleeping in her crib for a few days and we are not doing as well. For instance, she went down, slept for 45 minutes, woke up for a quick snack and is now back down. I think It's being in a different place. Also, where the crib is positioned in the room, it is a lot brighter than where the bassinet was. As much as I love the curtins I have in to room right now, the do nothing to block the sunlight. The blinds under them help minimally. I'm thinking about getting these from PBK. They have canvas that blocks the sunlight from entering the room. They are designed for naptimes:

Create a designer look at a fraction of the cost with our Roman shade. Its soft, fluid folds create a casual window treatment with a tailored effect. Made from durable cotton canvas, the shade features a special lining to darken the room at naptime. Available in a choice of widths to fit a variety of windows. Dry-clean. Sold individually. Available colors shown below. Catalog/Internet Exclusive.

DS has been using me to pacify himself into a nap. he was so worked up i thought maybe he was hungry..put him on the breast then he fell asleep and i transferred him to the crib. if its not in his carseat or swing, its the only way i can get him to nap. i don't want this to become habit. About swaddling, I think he is getting too big for a swaddle. i need bigger receiving blankets then! plus, he kicks...hopefully a long walk after his next feeding will help him doze.

Mrs.Chappy-Swaddling is the only way that we can keep Dean asleep when we put him down in his crib. If we don't swaddle him, he only sleeps for 45 minutes at a time. He is really big (he weighs 14 lbs 5 oz and is almost 25 inches long). We bought the Amazing Miracle Blanket and it is plenty big enough and it has a foot pouch to keep them from kicking it off. When we got it, he went from sleeping an average of 2 to 3 hours to sleeping 6.5 to 8 hours at a stretch at night! It is awesome! Dr. Karp (from Happiest Baby on the Block) says that it is fine to swaddle them for the first 4 to 6 months, so I am sticking with what works now!

Swaddling
We have The Miracle Blanket also. It's nice and roomy and stretchy. DH prefers to use one of two receiving blankets we have though. They are 40x40 and certainly big enough. I know in the May/June thread KimtheBride recommended Koala Bear blankets from BRU. They are 40x30 and come four to a pack at BRU. If that isn't big enough, you can always go to a fabric store and purchase some fabric. I've thought about doing that myself but I don't sew, nor do i have anyone close by who does. If you do though, it would be so easy to make your own...

Napping: DS has decided he doesn't need them! It is usually a struggle. I now wait until he is starting to get fussy and then swaddle him, sit by the fan and sway with him. If I turn on the water that usually helps, too. I have a sling and he always falls asleep in there, too.
night feeding: DS doesn't eat much at night, but the lactation consultant says that is normal at this age. She said he'll eat when he needs to. He still wakes up twice, but it is more of a snack.
swaddling: It is a must. I just ordered the miracle blanket, too. I have some of the BRU blankets, but they don't stay tight.

Napping We follow E.A.S.Y. So DH eats, activity, then he sleeps. (the y is you time!!) So usually every 2 hours DH takes a nap. Some times they only last 30-45 minutes and we have 1 long one that lasts 2-3 hours. I just look for his sleepy cues (his are fussiness and hiccups) and I swaddle him up for his naps.
Swaddle It's a must. He would only sleep 10 minutes without it!! Dr. Karp says to see if there are ready not to be swaddle anymore by leaving 1 arm unswaddled, we have tried it a few times but DS isn't quite ready.
Night Feeding DS is in the habit of waking up at 3-4 every morning. He only nurses for 3-6 minutes, so I going to try what the lady from Baby Whisperer says to try. When he wakes, I will rock him with a paci for a few minutes till he goes back to sleep, the next night just give him is paci and by the 3rd night he won't wake. He'll see if that works!!
FIL and girlfriend are visiting and I am so annoyed!! We only just meet this lady 3 days ago and FIL is already calling her my DS grandma! To top it off they only meet a few months ago online and have only seen each other for the last 2 weeks!! Everytime DS cries or fusses she's in my face telling me what to do! I keep telling her to put him down to sleep, but she keeps walking him around and rocking him!! :( Why don't people respect a mothers wish even if they don't believe what she is doing is right!! Can you tell I am bothered by her?

Meri: I'd rather not have a picture posted in the beginning. Thanks. DH doesn't want me posting any pics....but hey...I have to show off my cutie pie. ;)
DS had to have more blood work today. His eyes still have a tinge of yellow from the jaundice. It's breast milk jaundice, but it is hanging on. I was going to try and supplement with formula to get rid of it, but DS still will not take a bottle. I've tried several bottles and nipples, different times of day, different people... any suggestions? Help!
MrsChappy: I reccomend the exersaucer. He loves to just chill and look around...of course, he usually turns toward the TV!!

Question for you guys: What activities do you do with your baby during the day? Sometimes after a long day I just look at Dean and think "what am I supposed to do now?!" I'd love some more ideas.
Things we do: I will prop him up on my knees and sing to him. He particularly loves "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes".
We go for walks (when it isn't too hot).
If I have to do a chore or cook dinner, I try to tell him everything I am doing. We occasionally run errands, but it is so hard to do this on a regular basis. It seems like once he wakes up and I get him fed and changed it isn't long before he is fussy and ready for a nap again.
I read to him occasionally, but he doesn't focus on the book, so its just like I am talking to him while holding something!
I'm sure I am forgetting something, but I'd love to hear about other people's activities.

Ferris,
Ugh! Sorry for the annoying houseguests.
December,
Welcome! I remember you from the July Mommy's thread. Glad to see you have found your way over here. :) You daughter is too cute! I love her chubby little cheeks!
Julie,
I was going to suggest having someone else offer him a bottle, but that didn't work? Were you in the room? If so, maybe have someone offer it when you are not around...? He's such a cutie pie!
Megan,
Love the family pic! Your son is adorable!
Meri,
Thanks for updating! You can add the pic of Caroline & I on the previous page to the first page if you like. I have no shame! :D
QOTD: Activities:
Pretty much the same as you. She also hangs out in her bouncer a good bit. She loves it! She'll also do about 5 minutes on her Baby Einstein mat, but doesn't like to lie down too much. She'd rather be sitting up, so I've just ordered a Bumbo seat so she can do so more independently. We also have baby exercise time. I lean her up against my knees and she'll do little crunches. Then, I move her arms like she's doing jumping jacks, etc. She gets such a kick out of doing it.
It seems like once he wakes up and I get him fed and changed it isn't long before he is fussy and ready for a nap again.
So true! Caroline is usually awake for an hour. Feeding takes about 15 minutes, and about 15 minutes before she goes down for her nap she starts to get fussy so we start to swaddle her, etc. in preparation for her next nap. She really only does about 30 minutes of real stimulation time. I think it's completely normal. They take is so much during that time that it wipes them out.

Megan: We keep trying the bottle with no luck. He still eats every 2 hours during the day, so it is a bit exhausting. If I find something that works, I will certainly share it. ;) I love the hat! :D
Liz: Yeah, we've tried with me not being here. He has actually taken an ounce from me, but then the next day it's back to square one. Boo hoo for me. :p We do baby exercise, too. Collin loves for me to sing to him when we do it. (of course, he has no idea that his mommy can not carry a tune!)

JMVan and Megan-A friend of mine had the "No to bottles" problem and was told to have her son suck on a pacifier than do a quick, smooth switch to a bottle. She said it took a couple of days but her son got that hang of it. I guess this only works though if you are currently using pacifiers.
Ferris-That woman is totally obnoxious. She probably thinks she's endearing herself to her new "grandchild" but instead she's making a nuisance of herself.
QOTD-Activities-Alexa LOVES her Baby Einstein gym and it will keep her busy for a good 20-30 minutes. She kicks like a madwoman under it! I put her under it once in the morning and once in the evening.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000936LR.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
She also likes to be outside so I will put her in her bouncy seat and take her out on the deck. She will just look around and smile at moving leaves and such.
I also do what Megande does and narrate whatever activity I am doing. I pop her in her bouncy seat (love that bouncy seat) and take her in the laundry room to fold clothes or the kitchen to make dinner or whatever. Alexa seems to like my babbling and I know it's helping her language skills. Plus she enjoys different locales, even if it is just the dining room as I'm sorting linens!
New QOTD-Are your baby's eyes set in their color yet? Several baby books state that a baby's eyes can take up to a year to reach their color. Alexa's eyes seem to change everyday! They look green, grey, hazel, etc. I have green eyes and DH has brown eyes. Alexa is over three months now so I was hoping for some sort of hint of what her eye color will be. Her eyes are darker than mine but they are not brown like DH's. Any insite?
Edited to ask Megande about the bouncy seat that Dean is sitting in for the hat photo. Is that the bouncy seat that has flashing lights and sounds that are activated by the baby's feet kicking? Alexa has that one and it seems to scare the crap out of her. She usually only lasts a minute or two in it. Does Dean like it?
Edited again to thank everyone for their understanding about Alexander. I cried when Liz called him "one of ours".

Eye Color Both DH and I have blue eyes so DS eyes are blue, but they are changing in shade. He is starting to get the dark ring around the outside like I have and the inside is changing to a lighter blue. My nephews eye color is still changing and he's 18 months!!
annoying house guests They finally are gone, but not until after they took a shower together!! My DH called to talk to his dad and I couldn't find him anywhere and then I heard a couple of thumps in the shower and heard them talking!!! I am sorry but I think that is just gross. You just don't take a shower together at your son and DIL's house!! Then he kept making comments about wheither or not she had a short shirt at home and made gross noises when she said she did! Hello, do you not see me sitting next to you? We also got pictures done and she was in them! I didn't have the nerve to tell my FIL that we didn't want her in the pics, so we just ordered the ones without her!! While we were at the photo studio Dougie was crying (we had to wake him from his nap) and DH and I were trying to calm him, she came over and was trying to take him from DH! That got me super pissed off! But l said before, they are gone. However, they are talking about moving up here! If they do I don't know what I will do!
Activities -We play on my lap, actually DS loves to just stand and stare out at the world.
-He's finally liking some toys, so he sits on his mat and plays with them for sometimes an hour!
-I sing and we dance
-bouncy seat
-swing
-walks
-We just introduced the jumparoo(sp?)and he only likes it if I am holding his feet and bouncing him, if I let go he freaks out!
I actually wanted to go buy him some new toys, but decided that DS was enjoying the ones we have, it was me that was getting bored with them!
Walking Fussiness My DS has started getting super fussy when we go for walks. I am not sure of the reason, we usually go right after he's been fed. I was thinking that he doesn't like not being able to see me or it makes him sleepy and he doesn't want to go to sleep? Does anyone else have a fussy baby when they walk?
jmvan74
09-06-2005, 09:33 AM
Sophia: Thanks for the pacifier suggestions. I'll have to give that a shot. I have the baby Einstien playmat, too. Collin loves to bat the toys around and amconstantly changing them around.
eye color DS still has blue eyes. My mom has blue eyes, but no one else in my family. DH and I both have hazel eyes. I don't think we'll know for sure for a while.
activities: It seems like we are all doing pretty much the same things, so we must be doing something right. ;)
Question: Is anyone else dealing with possible teething already? DS is constantly gnawing on his hands, drooling, and pushing on his cheeks. Plus he'll fuss out of no where.
Mrs.Chappy
09-06-2005, 09:38 AM
question: How many feedings does your baby get per day? On most days mine gets six..is that enough? he is gaining weight..but maybe i should try for 8
i try to have him eat, play and nap then thecycyle starts over again..so it works out being 6 feedings. if he doesn't nap, then he falls asleep at the breast..he is sleeping 6-8 hrs at night too. clearly sleep is more imptnt to him than eating.
Megande
09-06-2005, 11:45 AM
Thanks for your responses! I'm glad to see that I'm not missing some really important or fantastic activity :). I have been thinking about getting Dean a gym mat, and I think I'll go ahead and do it now.
jmvan74 - Dean took a bottle last night!! I was SO excited! Every day this week, I practiced with him. He wouldn't suck on it, but he would allow it to be in his mouth, and he would chew on it a little. I found it worked better if I put him in his bouncy seat when I tried it. Last night I left the house for an hour and a half. DH tried the bottle when Dean woke up from his nap, and he refused it. Later, I guess he got a little hungrier, and he took it! I think the key is that they need to be hungry, but not starving. If they are too hungry, they get too frustrated. I heard it likened to being starving and having to try to eat a meal with chopsticks. When you are that hungry, you don't want to learn a new skill. I am going to have DH try again tommorow. I'm hoping it sticks!
sophiapb - Yes, we have the Kick and Play bouncer. If Dean isn't already fussy, he seems to enjoy the lights and music for about 5 minutes. After that, I think he gets overstimulated. We have the toy bar off of it about 95% of the time.
Ferris-Dean still loves to go for walks because he likes looking around at everything. But he used to love it when I bounced him on our exercise ball. If he was fussy, it calmed him down, and we used it to get him to go to sleep. Now that he is fighting sleep because he wants to hang out with us, he often starts crying and fussing as soon as I sit down on it. I think he knows it means naptime, and he wants nothing to do with that! I had a friend who had a similar issue with the swing. So maybe he doesn't want to go to sleep and that is why he is fussy...?
Mrs.Chappy I haven't ever really counted!! I would say that he gets about 8. I often nurse him just for comfort, though, so sometimes there are a lot more. I think if your son is gaining weight and doesn't seem discontent that 6 should be fine. Some babies are more efficient than others and prefer to get all their eating done in one sitting.
Eyes I have blue eyes and DH has green. His eyes were blue until he hit puberty, though, so I am expecting Dean's eyes to stay blue for now at least.

I seem to be so stressed trying to manage time... I don't have enough to do some simple things. I feel like I'm on the brink of going nuts. My DH doesn't get it sometimes. I'm really distraught about it, then I feel bad that I even do feel bad cause I have a wonderful little boy, then I feel bad again that I can't get some things done. I wish I didn't have to work, do bills or paperwork (some way overdue thank you notes), household chores, blah, blah, blah. I feel guilty I'm spending a few minutes even writing this - it's 2:30am. I just finished some work. Anyone else agonizing out there? I just need a little comradery or at least a sympathetic ear. Is it this way for most of you ladies too? Stretched to your limits? It doesn't help we just moved last month to our new house.
Mrs.Chappy

golfer: yes yes yes.. i'm not even back to work yet and i totally know what you are saying. DH's dont get it. My mom can sympathize with us too. My little boy is wonderfl too.. but sometimes there just isn't time to throw in a laundry or prepare dinner. What our sign.others don't understand is how much time little ones take up. Its most important to TAKE time for yourself (not at 2:30 am). try to go to sleep when your little one does at night this way you can get some rest so you don't have to stay up at 2:30. Also, what about having DH take responsibility for the bills.
jmvan74
09-07-2005, 09:49 AM
Golfer: sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed. I can't imagine being back to work and trying to manage a home. Moving is a huge stress. DH and I really try to work together. We take an hour or 2 on Sat. morning and clean the house, so it is not all on me. DS either naps or I put him in a front carrier. I can usually get a load of laundry in, if I put DS in the carrier, too. If things don't get done, so be it! ;)
Megan I'll have to try the bouncy seat. I hope Dean keeps taking the bottle for you.
Mrschappy DS eats between 7-9 times a day. If your little guy is gaining weight, I wouldn't worry about it. The bigger they get, the more efficient they get.

I'm sorry that I haven't been here in a while. It just seems as though I never have enough time to get everything done that needs to be done. Plus we were worried about our friends. We finally heard from them last night. They are fine but have lost pretty much everything they owned. Part of the house is still standing by some miracle. They really only have what they took with them when they headed to the shelter. We are so thankful that they are okay. We told her that they could replace things but not their lives. And she agreed.
DD went yesterday for the 2 month appt. Got the 2 month injections. Didn't like it one little bit either. She cried like we had never seen or heard before. We both felt so bad. Thankfully it's over with and we don't have to go through it again for a couple of months. Hopefully it will have been forgotten by then.
Question ~ Have any of you have a christening/dedication for your DC? ~ Did you decide to have godparents for your child? We are going to be having DD's soon and have thought about doing godparents but wasn't sure if it was just for a specific religions only.
We had family over for the weekend for cookouts. Can't believe that's it is already September. That doesn't seem possible. Pretty soon we will be seeing a June06 thread popping up. I went in by accident to the May06 thread and was like . I couldn't figure out why I didn't recognize any names. And then I saw the 4w and whatever day at the top of the post and figured out I was in the wrong thread. It doesn't seem like we all started on this journey a year ago.
Another question ~ Did you do birth announcements for your DC?.....I feel so bad that we haven't gotten ours out yet. We want to do picture ones for immediate family but DH hasn't told me which pictures he wants to use yet. I have the others filled out but haven't gotten around to getting them addressed just yet. I just can't find the time to get everythig done that needs to be done and find myself staying up late most nights. And I know that isn't a good thing for me.

Golfer-I had a couple of breakdowns while out on maternity leave because I felt like someone ALWAYS needed me, whether it was DD, DH or my mom (DM?). I actually feel like I am taking a bit of a break now that I have returned to work full-time. My commute in is an hour bus ride each way so it's like forced relaxation time. I can read without feeling like I should be doing laundry or writing Thank You notes. Once I get home it's a different story but at least I had some "me" time. That makes all the difference in the world.
Meri-Glad to hear your friends are okay. Scary!
We are trying to do a Christening for DD and have already postponed the date twice because of the paperwork we need to get together for the church. Godparents will be DH's brother and my sister who are both the same religion but the logistics are killing us!
We did send out announcements but more because DH fell in love with a vellum photo one we received from a friend. We ordered 50 of them and sent them to out of town friends and family. Anyone who had already met the baby or whom we had already spoken to did not get one. What's the point? Ultimately, I'm glad we did it so that when Alexa is older she can see that we did celebrate her birth (I'm still feeling guilty that I didn't hold her until 12 hours after her birth) although I didn't like the photo we used. *shrug*

Megan: DS took 2 ounces from the bottle in his bouncy seat! I hope it wasn't a fluke.

I'm so glad you posted this, Julie. I was just about to do the same. Caroline has been drooling like crazy and nawing on her little fists all week. Not to mention, she is pooping like crazy! She's having about 5 BM's a day again. I really think she is beginning to teethe. My nephew began at 3 months also, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Christening
Ugh! Don't get me started! We are Catholic and as part of the process, we have to take a baptismal class before we can schedule the baptism. Well, the class is only offered the first Sunday of the month. They didn't have it in July because of 4th of July weekend, in August we were at our family reunion, in Septemeber it was cancelled because of Labor Day, and in October we'll be in Vegas. I'm so disappointed! We're trying to work with the church to see if they'll let us do a private class, but so far no word. Looks like we'll have to wait until November at the earliest. Godparents are another issue. We really want good, practicing young Catholics...but can't find any. LOL! We really can't decide. We'll end up hurting someone's feelings regardless.
Announcements
Sent them out when she was about 7 weeks old. Totally worth it, too. We got tons of presents for her in the mail! :D Just go ahead and do them. Sending them now is better than never sending them at all.
Feedings
DD is down to 6 as well. She still takes the same amount over the course of the day (24 ounces), just more at each feeding than she did in the early days. As long as DS is gaining, you shouldn't be concerned. I've read at this age 6-8 feedings a day is within the normal range.
Eyes
Blue, and will probably stay blue. If not, I'm going to have some seriousl answering to do. Both DH and I have blue eyes, as did both of our parents. ;)
Meri,
Glad to hear you friends are okay!
Sophia,
All I can say is....(((HUGS)))!

Feeding Between 6-8 a day! So I guess we are all doing it right.
Mrs Chappy Yeah for working part time! :)
Sleep DS had been sleeping until between 4:30-6 for the last month and then last week after my FIL and his girlfriend watched him he has been sleeping terrible! Last night he woke up at 1:30 and again at 4!! Ugghhh! I am so frustrated! We had gotten him on a great bedtime routine and I think they messed it up! Why couldn't they just do what I asked them to do!! :(
Accouncements We sent them out when DS was about 6 weeks. But unlike Liz we didn't get any more gifts or even phone calls! My MOH still hasn't even called me or written to me since his birth!
Teething My DS is only beginning to drool, and not very much yet either. With I am glad for since I am still Bfing. My sis and I didn't get our first tooth until we were 9 months, so let's hope that's the case with my little guy!

Liz: Now that you mention it...collin has started pooping more again, too. Is that another sign? I finally got him to chew on a cool teething ring and that seemed to help.
MrsChappy: Benjamin is adorable! :D
Ferris: I'm still b/fing, too and I am scared of that first tooth. :( I know I had teeth by 4 months, soo...yikes! DS won't take a bottle, so I can't even wean.

Overwhelmed-School has started back again. I have a fellowship this year, so I don't have to teach, but just knowing that summer is over has put pressure on me to get back to working on my dissertation. So far I am working at home while Dean naps, and it is going ok. Some days, though, when I think about trying to write, to take care of DS, our house, and myself, I don't know how it is ever going to work. I just try to take it day by day, and take a day off if I am really getting overwhelmed.
Julie- I'm so glad to hear that Collin took a bottle for you!! We haven't tried it again since last time (I really hate to pump), but we need to practice again soon so that Dean doesn't forget how to do it!
Meri-We didn't do birth announcements. I wanted to and meant to, but I just never got around to it. Everyone in my family who would have cared already knew the news and had seen pictures, so I tried not to beat myself up over it.
We haven't thought about the details of christening either. DH is Catholic and I'm not. Currently we attend my non-denominational church and haven't been to mass in almost 2 years, but I don't know if he would feel comfortable having DS christened there. It is so complicated!

Julie,
I heard somewhere that it was a sign of teething. Perhaps because they are swallowing so much drool? I don't know. All I know is we went from 1 poopy diaper a day to 5!

Hi guys, I'd love to join your thread since I am a June mommy as well. I enjoy the May-June thread, but most of those babies are way ahead of my DD in terms of development. ;) It will be nice to have some babies closer in stages with my DD. I must admit to being a lucker on the old WC Junebugs thread during my pregnancy. Here are our stats:

Hey, Kelsey! *waves* :D
Julie,
Ah. Now we've got documented evidence. It makes sense when you think about it. Especially when her little mouth is pouring like a fountain. The funny thing is, she doesn't seem overly cranky...yet. Does your son?
Caroline and I had our mother/daughter pictures this week and they are finally up on the internet. If you'd like to see them, follow the link from my journal. I would post it here, but it contains priviledged information that I only feel comfortable posting behind the security of my journal. ;)
Keith and I finally got the letters hung up in her room today. Procrastinators? Yes! They look beautiful. My aunt matched the design from one of her coordinating blankets to them and I must say, they look divine. :D
While Keith was working on that, I decided to try Caroline out in her christening gown. Oh.My.Gosh! She looked like a little doll. So beautiful. I really hope we can get in this class and have her baptized soon. She still has a little bit of growing room in her gown, but not much. :(

Hi Ally, I remember thinking our kids would share a b-day when you posted about scheduling your c/s and I had scheduled my induction for the same day. I have always preferred even vs. odd days so I think 6/10 is a great b-day!
My DD seems to have conjunctivitis in her right eye <again>. Sigh. I've started erythromycin ointment, but just hope the daycare doesn't freak out tomorrow. :( It definitely isn't contagious pink eye, but I think they hear "conjunctivitis" and balk.
Liz, that is great news about Caroline in her gown! We put Ava's name on her wall as well, and it looks really good. Of course, it was my sister and me painting the letters (both of whom have no real artistic talent), but I think the name letter really add a personal touch!
Well, time to head to our final feeding of the evening and off to bed. Hope everyone's work week passes quickly!

Liz: Documentation is always good. I saw the rolling stones on TV and thought about you and Keith Richards, of course! LOL! Collin has some extra fussiness. It's not constant though. He's starting to like his cold teething ring. He also has a little cough. I read that was another sign b/c of all the spit. :D
Hi Naamah. I finally stopped going over to WC. This board is much more managable for me. It's good to see familiar "faces".

sophiapb, I had no good reason to lurk rather than post, other than I didn't find the thread until almost 2nd trimester and felt shy. ;) Once I figure out how to post a photo, I will show off my DD. It is amazing how quickly she changes. By the time we get a photo developed, she looks different.
We went to a church picnic yesterday evening at the local zoo and they have a carousel. DD and I rode on a cheetah, and DH got some cute photos. We also got a cute photo of her in her stroller at the information booth, parked under a sign that read "Lost Parents." We were noticing that a year membership costs $60/person  which seemed a little pricey to us. Guess we will need to take advantage of free events when we can...

kelseyledare  The cost of a membership at your Zoo is expensive! We only paid 80 that includes 2 adults, kids under 4 are free and each time we go we can bring 3 adults free with us! So my sis and I got the membership together so we can each go with our husbands and kids seperatly.

Thank you! Don't let her fool you though...she's not all that coy!
Naamah,
Shylah is adorable! She looks so much like you!! You really should try to hang around here a little bit. I find it's very similar to the WC. The old WC at least...I like the journals better here beacuse they can only be accessed by registered users. Not just any old Joe like on the WC.

Finding voice DS has been cooing/talking for awhile, but the last few days he's really been discovering his voice. It's so cute and loud! :)

MrsChappy I agree with jmvan74, Ben is so freaking cute!

jmvan74 My DS had a 3 months growth spurt as well! He was feeding every 1 1/2 to 2 hours! I felt like I didn't have any milk left to feed him in the afternoons! So I kept squeezing my boobs to make sure I had milk left. :p

Rolling over from tummy to back ~ DD did this for the first time on Saturday evening. I couldn't believe it. It's happened everyday since.
Standing up with assistance ~ Has anyone else's DC done this yet? DD loves to stand up. She did her first full laugh the other day while she was standing up and we were talking.
Cooing/Talking ~ DD loves to talk and coo. Sunday afternoon that's pretty much all she did. It was so cute to hear her talking while I was driving. We think that she is discovering her own voice more and more. It is so cute!
Liz ~ I didn't realize that journals were not accessible to anyone that wasn't a registered member. I think that feature. I always wished that WC was that way. I'll have to check out the pictures soon.
ally ~ Nice to see you. Would you like your stats on page 1?
kesleyledare ~ I'll get your stats posted soon. That's one of the reasons that I wanted to start this thread. I felt the same way and so do many of the other ladies. And I just didn't feel as welcome in the July thread. It just wasn't the same. After all we all had went through our entire pregnancies together and we all knew each other. We shared in each others joys, concerns, worries, scared times, happy times, etc. That zoo membership is rather high for just one person.
tgr68 ~ Hi. It's so nice to see you over here. I'm glad that you decided to join us. I'll get your stats posted on page 1 soon. Would you like the picture posted on page 1 as well? Little Shylah is growing so well. And look at all that hair!! My little one doesn't half that much.
TLC episode ~ No, I've been trying to watch them during the day but sometimes it's not possible. I haven't seen it yet. I don't know if she is on this site or not. Have to check the May/June roster.
Zoo memberships ~ We had one but it's expired now. DH asked me about renewing it and I said that I'd rather wait until next spring (i.e. May) to renew it. I don't really want to go to the zoo when it's getting chilly out. And I'm sure not going to go during the winter months. We had what was called a single plus. It let me (or DH) in and one guest each visit. Not sure if we are going to do that again or go with the household option. It includes two named adults and their children under age 21 in for free. But no guest privileges. Or there is a household plus option. It's the same as the household option but allows each guest to bring another person. The differences in prices are single plus for $49, household for $69, and household plus of $89. We are also entitled to go to other zoos that have an agreement with the local zoo for free.
Mrs.Chappy ~ What a cutie!

Alexa hates tummy time as well and as such, has not rolled over yet. When she was a few weeks old we would put her on her tummy and she did so well, raising up her little head and making some funny faces in the process. Now she doesn't have the patience and yells at us when we put her on her tummy.
She likes to have us stand her up and her legs are flippin' strong. She's kicked me a couple of times when it hurt!
No raspberries yet but that would definitely be a video moment.
Alexa has definitely found her voice and will have entire conversations with people. I'm convinced that she thinks she's really saying something but the person talking back to her is just a babbling fool. ;)

Hi - I haven't posted much but i have been following this thread forever. I had my DD Ellie on June 21, 2005. You guys are always so helpful and i do have a question.
Has anyone's DC developed a flat spot on their head. Ellie has below her ear on the right side. She has always favored turning her head that way. Looking at all my ultra sounds confirmed that she was lying on her right side in utero. I talked to the ped at her 2 month visit and she showed us the exercises to help her neck muscles and didn't seem to concerned. She has the ability to look both ways and often does but seems to turn her head right when sleeping on her back. I know they say to keep them out of the car seat and swing, bouncy etc as much as possible so now I feel guilty using any of these! But holding the baby all day is just not a reasonable option. Any tips to help her look to the left more easily? We are trying to do a lot more tummy time also, i am heading to Target today to try and find the play mat posted above.
Thanks in advance!

Ferris~Thanks! I so need to get DD a playmat!
Meri~I have some updated pics I need to get onto the computer. I'll post one of those for the first page.
LIZ~I love the pictures!
DD loves tummy time. She always lifts her head and looks around trying to talk to us. The only time she doesn't like it are when her allergies are bothering her and she's congested. :(
vegas~I haven't noticed any flat spots. But we will sometimes put DD on her least favored side for naps.
Well, gotta get. I still have a ton of housework to get done. YUK!

tummy time; DS isn't fond of tummy time, but I have a tummy time mat from "One Step Ahead" that makes it bearable.
Vegas: DS has a flat spot on his right side behind his ear, too. I have a little pillow on his playmat and I moved all of the toys to the opposite side to make him look that way. Same with the crib. All of the exciting stuff is on the side that makes him look to the left. The ped said we'd keep an eye on it, but wasn't worried. I'm still worried. I put him in all of his toys, but just make sure he isn't spending too much time looking to the right.

Consumption
DD takes about 4 ounces (2 ounces BM, 2 ounces formula) per serving, and is eating about every 3.5-4 hours. I figure she eats about 24 ounces in a day. She's probably the same size as your son, Mrs. Chappy. She was 10 pounds, 13 ounces at her last appointment on August 24th or so.
Flat spot
Nope, but she does have a nice little ring around her head where she rubs the hair off in her sleep. Mom says it's where her halo rubs against her head. LOL! :D
Winterbride
Is on the May/June thread. She hasn't mentioned anything about it. Then again, she may still be recovering from her surgery. I haven't seen her around much.
Milestone List
Not sure of a website, but I go by my book by the AAP called "The Complete & Authoritative Guide Caring For Your Baby & Young Child". I got it free when I joined Publix's baby club. It's a great book. Carissa found it on Ebay for only $0.99. Something to think about...

Count Dean among those that hate tummy time. No matter how good of a mood he is in, tummy time ruins it within a matter of moments. He did roll over once a few weeks ago, but I'm pretty sure he didn't mean to. He looked really surprised afterwards :). Toys don't seem to help his hatred of tummy time any, but I might look into a mat just in case. Its a good idea.
Standing with assistance is a really popular activity around here too. When he first started doing it, we could barely get him to sit because all he wanted to do was stand around.
I cannot believe how big my baby is!! At our two month appointment he was 14.5 pounds and 25 inches long! I am going to have to buy a new carseat this week because his head is at the top of the snugride.

Flat Spots
Ped noticed DS was favoring the right side at his 2 month appointment, so gave me some exercises to do to prevent the stiff neck. His head is more rounded on the right because of it, but I've been pretty good at doing the therapy and making changes in his crib & carseat to promote looking left more and he's so much better. I also have used the Pottery barn Kids head rest in his stroller (when he's not in the carseat clicked into it) to prevent flat head.
Milestones
I just get an idea of when to look out for things from the What To Expect book and the emails I get from BabyCenter. So far he's rolled over both ways, laughed, holds his head up, reaches for things, gets his thumb and fingers in his mouth, and chews darn near everything. When he does a 'milestone' I write it on the kitchen calendar so I don't forget it before eventually writing it in his baby book.
Bottles for Dad
Anyone else pumping for the sole purpose of letting DH feed baby some times? DH is so upset he doesn't get to feed DS (he doesn't have teats), that I'm literally pumping just to give him the chance. Silly, but it makes DH happy!

For anyone dealing with flat spots and side favoring. I just picked up a sleep positioner with the memory foam pillow. It's called Sleep Right and is made by especially for baby. It helps flat spots. It was $15 and DD seems to enjoy lying on it. I put one in her pack and play and one in the crib. I am trying to keep her off her back as much as possible during the day but sometimes I need a break!! I actually find that the carseat I have keeps her head straight which is what I want, i don't want her favoring either side! I wish i had this sleep positioner from the start!!
The whole back to sleep campaign was drilled into us when we were PG but I really feel like no one or any book really talked about rotating the baby's position to prevent this. I know it is very common and will most likely resolve itself but I wish i had known more about it. Everytime i show someone they tell me they would never have known unless i told them but none the less it stresses me out! My DH is a Dr. and I have had him asking every pediatrician at the hospital about this and what to do to make it better!!

On Kim's suggestion we bought the tummy time surf board. He lasted for about 5 minutes on it last night, and that was right before bedtime when he gets alittle fussy! Can't wait to try it again today during his actovity time.
Daylight Saving Time I don't know what I am going to do when the time changes! DS has been getting fussier and more tired earlier and earlier because it's getting dark sooner! Here in the pacific northwest it gets dark at about 4:30 in the winter! I can't have him being fussy for 5 hours before bedtime! I think I might go buy some of those natural light light bulbs and see if that helps. Is anyone's DC effected by the earlier darkness?
Mrs. Chappy I can't answer that question becuase I breastfeed as well. I also worry about my DS having enough food. But he's gaining weight and has plenty of wet diapers.

KIm and Vegas: Thanks for the additional info on flat spots. It is so nerve wracking. I think Collin's is getting better, but time will tell.
Ferris: I don't know if it's daylight savings or not, but I do notice that it is much easier to get DS to sleep in a dark room, so I am nervous about him wanting to go to sleep earlier when night comes sooner.
consumption: I don't know exactly what he takes b/c I bf,but I go to meetings and weigh him before he eats and after he eats. Depending on his mood he'll take between 2 and 5 ounces at a feeding.
Megan: I thought Collin was a big guy! LOL! He's 15.1 and 24 and a quarter inches at 3 months. Gotta love a big boy. ;)

Not a lot of time to post. Cross-posted from my WC journal:
Mommy Group~One of the girls in my Thursday morning bible study is wanting to get a mommies group together. She is pg with her first child (EDD 10/10/05) and planning on being a SAHM, but she doesn't know any other SAHM's other than myself. I know a few in the surrounding area, so we may try to start a playgroup with all of them. Everyone we are thinking of has a baby that has been born since April 05!Have any of you been in a mommy/play group? What do you like/dislike about them?

Daylight Savings
Haven't really dealt with it yet as it's still staying light here. I've been thinking aboit it though. Don't know what we'll do next month.
Mommy Groups
Haven't been in one. I've had a couple of opportuniteis, but haven't made the leap. I think if I was going to do one, it would have been while I wasn't working. I craved adult interaction.

Bottles for Dad I had been doing this before we had house guest for over a month and haven't started back up with it yet! DH needs special bonding time with our DS and I think that gave him an opportunity to do so. I plan on starting that again tonight.
Thank goddness I bought the Tummy Time Surf Board DS rolled over from tummy to back with it yesterday!! It wasn't the most graceful roll over, he had scooted up quite a ways and his face was hitting the fish (I made sure he could breathe!) and then he rolled over! I have noticed the last few time he's been on his stomach he has been scooting!
Mommy Group No, I haven't been in one. As of right now I don't know if I will. I just have this picture in my head of mommies says "yeah, well my son can do this" and "My daughter did that weeks ago". For some reason when mommies get around each other its like a competition!!

Have any of you been in a mommy/play group? What do you like/dislike about them?
I do a few things:
Baby music class (at a local kids art & activity store) - really cute & stimulating, about 8 moms and babies from 3 months to 8 months. I only went once, but the teacher said that if I go at the same time each week the moms end up being the same and it becomes its own little group...which can become social.
Baby yoga (at local yoga studio) - this is a 8 week series of the same moms and babies. I've been going for a few weeks and made 2 friends so far that I have done 'outside' things with. It's nice because I find other yoga moms are of similar mindsets to me in this environment. When the series is over I'm signing up for the next one as well, even if its a different group of women since DS seems to like the movements and I like meeting the yoga-ish moms.
Playgroup (formed by the town's family alliance group) - About 30ish women or more are in this group that meets at the park on Fridays at a set time. I've so far made 1 friend, but the 2 yoga mom friends I made also started going as well as an old friend of mine, so we are all introducing each other to those we all meet - exponentially expanding our circle of SAHMs! Some days different moms invite everyone to lunch or coffee afterwards, since all we do is really chat and let the babies (birth-just crawling) 'play' with each other.
Mother's Group Series (private 'company') - I signed up for a 6 week series run by a SAHM. Each week is a differnt activity then lunch, and you get some sort of education or souvenier each week. It's about a dozen moms, and starts in October. Looking forward to this since it's a new activity each week.
I'm so glad to have all these different activities and groups of new moms & SAHMs to meet. I am making friends and getting out of the house, more social. Once the cold weather hits it's so much harder to get out with a new baby, so I'm thrilled to have the option of new friends to make home-visits to over the cold season. There is a domino effect of meeting all these moms - you make new friends and find out about new activities where you meet even more people at, etc. Highly recommend getting involved.
I have a handful of websites both that I found and was led to by other Moms (NJNYB is a pro at finding stuff like this!). Here's some in case anyone is looking for something to get them out of the house:

Call your local YMCA, library, maternity ward of the local hospital, and town clerk? They may know of a town family alliance your town has. There's swimming lessons, baby yoga, exercise groups, infant CPR classes, pottery, music classes, etc. Most are just an excuse for new moms to meet other moms and make friends.
Or you can always do what I did: post in the CC boards that you want to get a local moms group to meet up, and see you is interested in meeting you IRL. We had 5 moms come to ours in NJ/NYC, and the 6 or so who couldn't make it want us to do it again soon so they can join in.

Amount of BM~I have no idea. I let her eat until she's full or until I get tired of the nursing session (about 20 min.)
Milestone List~There's one on Baby Center (http://www.babycenter.com) that I periodically check. I just use it as a guide, rather than freak out at what she is or isn't doing.
Standing~DD won't do this. When we try, she pulls her legs up. She loves to sit though (I sit behind her on the floor and hold her hands to stabilize her).
Kim~Welcome (back) to the group! What a cutie! Good idea about writing things on the calendar! I should probably do that, so when I get around to scrapbooking, I know when things occured! Thanks for all the Mommy/Play Group links!!
Megan~What a doll!
Bottles for Dad~I will periodically do this, especially if I've had a long day and need a break around feeding time. DH likes to feed herevery now and then. I make sure to give him his fair share of baby duties, so he doesn't feel left out. ;)
DST~Haven't noticed any changes in behavior with it getting darker earlier, so I haven't given it a whole lot of thought.
LIZ~Checked out your pics, and they are great! Still haven't gotten any with DD. I think we'll be settling for Walmart this time. :( That's the main reason I want to get involved in one, especially on DH's late nights when he doesn't come home until 7pm. By Friday, I am in so much need of adult interaction!!
Ferris~I'm kindo of worried about all the comparing, but most of the girls I know who we would ask (about 6 of us) aren't usually like that.
Well, gotta run get some housework done while DD is sleeping!

Flat spots: Add us to the list of babies with flat spots. DDs was quite prominent, as she had torticollis and turned her head mostly to the right. She's gotten much better with her neck, but her head is still pretty flat on one side. I'm waiting to get her ped's opinion at four months - one of my main concerns. It also made her head measure small, percentile-wise.
Standing: We love to do this and sometimes bounce a little. DD doesn't blow bubbles or raspberries, though. Does love to talk. Will even talk to the other babies at daycare.
Photos: Took DD for 3 mos photos yesterday and was pretty pleased with the results. She smiles quite a lot and even posed on her tummy which was kinda surprising. Had some coupons so I was able to get a lot of photos in 4 poses for $16.
Tummy time: I'm so tempted to get that mat everyone post for DD. She really doesn't like tummy time too much, and hence, hasn't made much effort to roll over. She kicks her legs a lot so may roll back-front first.
Weekend plans: We are heading to Atlanta tomorrow to meet my parents at the World Congress Center for a trade show. We're spending the night in a hotel downtown. They are supposed to be providing us with a crib, but couldn't guarentee a non-smoking room :( I feel pretty comfortable it will work out. My parents are there already in a non-smoking room so worst case scenerio, DD could always move in with them for the night. My mother fell last week and broke her leg :( . She had surgery and is in a wheelchair and cast right now. She's young and normally very active so this is hard for her. She always loves to see DD, but I think she can especially use some time with her grandbaby to perk up her spirits. Tonight, I need to pack us up and choose DDs outfit.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. I'm going to try to figure out how to post a photo of DD before she wakes up for dinner...

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. The thread has gotten busy over here!
Milestones: DS is laughing like crazy. He started laughing about 2 weeks ago. He also smiles when I smile at him. I love that he recognizes me and reciprocates the smiles. ahhh. I just love it!
BTW, I had to share this cause I agonized for months with this: I figured out that Spray and Wash is useless. Shout works MUCH better to get rid of poopie blowout stains on clothing.
Have you all stopped using baby laundry soap (Dreft) that were using it? I just started using Tide Free and hope the little guy doesn't show any sensitivity at this point... nothing yet.

We got so much work done today!!
~Picked up the dining
~Organized scrapbook stuff
~Vaccumed dining
~Vaccumed the dog's kennel out
~Swept the nursery
~Set up the crib
~Moved glider/ottoman/changing table into nursery
~Assembled mobile
~Assembled shelf
~Caulked along the nursery floor
~Rehung closet doors
~Got nursery clock ready to hang
~Swept utility
~Laundry
~Took out window a/c units
~Replaced window screens
I think that was all. We have a couple new pics of Shylah, and a new pic of the nursery.
ILs went shopping today, and came back with the cutest outfit and shoes for Shylah, plus a walker for her to play in since we didn't have any "stand up" toys.
If that wasn't a crazy enough day, Shylah decided that today would be her 3-month growth spurt day, so she was eating about every two hours.
Well, it's late here, and we have had a busy day. So, I should log off.

Mommy groups: I've been going to a b/fing support group at our local hospital, but havne't found another group yet. Some of the girls there have been talking about setting up our own group, so I hope something comes of that. I love being with other moms, but I'd like to get out and do something.
Naamah: I hear you on the growth spurt. We did that last week. So exhausting. Now DS has decided to change his whole eating schedule. I have no idea when he wants to eat now. He is spreading his feedings way out!
golfer: We use baby all and will probably use it until it's gone and then try using regular detergent. DS doesn't seem to have sensitive skin.
Kelsey: What a cutie! She has grown so much. I agree that BM does the trick! DS went from a birth weight of 6lbs to 15.6lbs at 14 weeks. Not bad. ;)

Tummy time- We got Dean the FP Kick'n crawl aquarium because he was starting to get interested in batting at toys. You can fold up the end and put the toys so that the kids can look at it during TT. Now he will happily lay on his tummy for at least 5 minutes, which is a huge improvement.
(click on the pic to see it bigger. I hope this works, ImageShack has been acting up for me today)

Mom's group - I attend two La Leche League meetings every month, and thats a good way to get out and talk to some other mommies. I just found out that we have a MOMS club in my town, so I called to get some information about that. Hopefully I can get in a play group soon.
Julie - Wow! I am really impressed with Collin's weight gain!! What are you feeding that kid ;) ;) :D
Naamah - I'm impressed with your productivity! I wish some of that would rub off on me ;)
Diane - We never used Dreft, I have used All Free and Clear from the beginning and had no problems. DS doesn't seem to have sensitive skin, so now I just throw his clothes in with ours.
kelsey - Your DD is SO cute! Thanks for posting the pictures!
Kim- Congrats on the tummy to back roll over!

Kelsey,
Ava is adorable! Look at that beautiful smile!!
Rolling Over
I think we had our first roll! I went in to get her Saturday morning and she was on her stomach (usually sleeps on side). I think it was a fluke though. Even so, I'm trying to work with her a little more. She hates tummy time! May have to look in to that mat as well.
Detergent
Still using Dreft. I just LOVE the smell of that stuff!!
Naamah,
Come on over...I've got some more chores for you to do. ;)
Megan,
I can't see the pic. :(
Bad weekend for milk. My Dr. didn't refill my rx of Reglan so my milk supply (what little supply I had) plummeted this morning. Turns out there was a mistake on my chart and they are calling it in today. Whew! Have I mentioned how much I HATE BFing? It's been riddled with problems for me. If it wasn't so darned good for her, I would have totally thrown in the towel already. I really hope I can make it to at least 6 months.

Kelsey~What a cutie!! I love her big smile!
jmvan~DD has changed the fact that she isn't eating more often, but for longer periods! I can handle feeding her more times a day, but I get so restless after sitting there 20-30 minutes. I just keep telling myself that it's best for her. It's going to be hard keeping this up for another 9 months though!
Megan~I can't see the pic. Believe me, I don't get cleaning spurts like that often, so when they come, I have to take full advantage of them! ;)
LIZ~I'll be right over! :p Sorry you are having a rough time with BFing. Yeah for DD rolling over!! We still haven't done it yet. I think Shylah just likes to torment me! LOL. ;)
Is anybody NOT finished with their nursery yet? DH and I worked all weekend, and now I can use it to a point. She still can't sleep in her crib because we only have a mattress pad, but no sheets yet. (I still need to order them. :o ) Here's a couple of pics:

Naamah,
Please do. My house looks like a tornado hit it! I LOVE your nursery! It's looking fabulous! We finally "officially" finished the nursery last weekend when we hung the letters up in her room. Other than that, it's been done since I was about 34 weeks pregnant.
Ferris,
The rx had helped a bit. I had been getting less than 1 oz per session and it bumped me up to 2 oz.'s. Still not enough to sustain her alone, but enough to where she is at least getting the benefits.

Ferris~Thanks!
LIZ~Thanks! We are no where near done at the moment. I told DH that it has to be done by the time she starts crawling!
We still have so much left to do to get the nursery completed! We have to sand/refinish or paint the dresser, repair and paint the closet doors, finish the new woowork, lay carpet, and install a new door. Then we get to do the fun accessorizing part!

Hello girls!
I can't believe our babies are getting so big! DD is now 3 months old (I stopped counting weeks) and much more active and much more fun now. I do miss my newborn but I love playing with her and seeing her smile. For the last week she's loving her play mat and all the links she can kick and pull. She never did that before. We did try putting her in her activity center, shes still too small for it. I wanted her to practice holding up her neck/back. Maybe I'll get the bumbo? Does anyone have the bumbo?

Naamah- Your nursery looks great! I love the peanuts! Did your husband do it? Am I thinking of the right nursery here? ;)
Question- What is everyone doing these days? Who is back at work and who is still at home? If you are at home, do you plan on going back to work? And any other question you might want to answer. BF, FF, co-sleeping, etc. :)
I am working on my dissertation from home these days. (My advisor is in India this month and I am waiting for her to get back. Can you tell that I'm really bored while DS is napping? :)). I pretty much just work when Dean naps, and DH watches him when I have to go up to school for a seminar or something. I can't leave for more than 2 hours, though, because DS is EBF, and he doesn't want to have anything to do with a bottle! I like working from home. When I get tired of working Dean is usually awake and ready to play, and when I need to think about "grown up things", I have something to work on. I don't think I'd want to do this forever, but I think it will be nice for the next few years.

today i got out of the house and went to a new mommies support group and i met other moms just like me!! it was wonderful to have a sense of purpose..it think it did wonders for my milk as i came home and pumped 4 oz (before i never pumped more than 2) AND my son is still asleep in his carseat from our trip. I'm searching for a playgroup in my area...I shouldn't get too used to this life b/c i have to go back to work at the beginning of Dec.

Megan~My dad helped me with the nursery. He drew the characters, and I painted them!
MrsChappy~So glad you had such a great time with the mommy group!
I am pretty much still at home full-time. I do work at the library about 8 hrs a week, but I get to bring Shylah with me! I would like to be at home full-time, but we can't afford it right now. I really like what I do though, so it's not that bad!
We are also still exclusively BFing, for the most part. I will occasionaly pump to give DH a chance to feed her. BFing is still going great for us. I know how fortunate we are though. I hope this luck continues, so I can BF for a full year like I want.
We had planned on keeping DD in the same room as us, but after two nights of me not getting to bed until 5:00am, we decided to have her sleep in a different room. Since the nursery was not finished, and her pnp was already set up in our room, we took over the guest bed. DD and I will take naps together on the couch if I get really tired during the day!
I know this is a ways in the future, but is anyone planning on homeschooling? DH and I would really like to, and there is a great HS network in our area!
I think that's about it. Later!

I'm officially a SAHM (very wierd, but fun!).

Oh kim that is a good question I wanted to bring up--for all you moms who have 1 br apts or less-is you crib in your room? Right now DS is sleeping in the PNP in our room and his crib is in an area in the livingroom but I think I want to put it in our room

Megan: I'm a SAHM and ebf, too. We have the same bottle trouble. I basically play with Collin all day and try to nap when he does. I try to get some laundry done and take a walk daily. We go to a bfing support group on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we usually hit the mall or a department store a few times a week and walk and window shop. Sometimes it gets monotonous, but for the most part I enjoy being with my son and can 't imagine leaving him.
DS sleeps in his crib in his own room (right next to ours). I've always had problems with insomnia and DS is not sleeping through the night, so that doesn't help me much.
Mrs.Chappy: Hooray for the mommies group and the good pump!
Naamah: The nursery is coming along nicely. It looks so cute. You did such a nice time on the walls.
Oh by the way...I was over at WC and Winterbride posted. Her babystory episode will be on October 5th at 2:00 on TLC! I can't wait to watch. There is a re-air on October 13 at 9 or 9:30. There is link on the wc thread.
Liz: Sorry you were having problems with your milk. Glad you got your RX. I have had so many issues bfing, too. If DS would take a bottle I probably would have given up weeks ago. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get him on a bottle. I only planned on bfing for 6 months.
December: I don't have the bumbo, but I want it. My friend has one and says her son loves to sit in. It provides good support.

Naamah: Your nursery looks great! We have finally finished most of our nursery. Bought some paintings at DD's daycare's silent auction that need frames to go up on her walls. DH is refinishing her dresser and still dragging that project along. Wish I had pushed him more to finish everything earlier. Yours really looks good ;)
Megan: I'm back at work full-time and doing EBM. Still haven't decided if we'll introduce any solids at 4 mos or wait until 6 mos. DD already gets 3 oz of baby juice a day to control constipation issues. She sleeps in the PNP in our bedroom and will stay there until she's sleeping longer stretches. Neither DH or I want to stumble upstairs half-asleep.
jmvan74: Thanks for the info on winter. I can't wait to see someone I "know" on that show. I watched all the time in college.
I am debating getting that tummy time mat for DD; it looked so good, but our Target is rather crummy. It has a smallish baby selection and I've never seen the mat there. Anyone find it a BabiesRUs or anywhere else?

Megan & jmvan74 - bottle troubles too? I slacked on giving DS a bottle at least once a day for a week or more and so now he seems to have forgotten how well he took to it (I've been doing exclusive BF). I have a screamer on my hands now that we're trying to re-introduce the bottle. The crying sessions are heartbreaking plus he won't eat more than a gulps worth. After trying all kinds of crazy things (you wouldn't believe all the things we're doing) to try and make it work, I went to target tonight and bought a different type of bottle/nipple. My sis noticed that although he hated the bottle, he was ok with his paci so she suggested I try a new bottle/nipple. I had been using Dr. Browns so I bought Playtex and Avent. So far, I tried the Playtex tonight and it actually went ok... (knock on wood!) he took in about 1.5 oz with far less screaming. I hope tomorrow goes even better. Cross your fingers for me! If you have any suggestions for a better bottle/nipple experience, let me know.
Also, Megan, I'm now a SAHM. Planning not to return to the workforce any time soon if we can juggle the $. I'm BFing and we have DS in a co-sleeper next to us in our room. When DS can sleep close to 8 hours fairly regularly, we'll move him to his room. Meanwhile, I just don't want to get up and get him in his own room to feed him. I'm finally comfortable nursing while laying down. When DS seems more finicky or I'm too lazy to put him back in his co-sleeper, I nurse him in our bed and let him sleep next to me after. We have an Eastern King bed so it's roomy, plus after, I put him high up by our pillows so there's no way I'll roll over him or pull the covers over him.
Liz, congrats on the roll! Caroline will be rolling more and more soon! Sorry to hear about the BF troubles. I tell ya, BFing is HARD! I still get clogged ducts once in a while! :(
kimthebride - thanks for the info on how to find other moms! I was just wondering how to do it!

Am I the only one who's back at work full-time? I thought there were others who had joined me but it sounds like it's just me and Kelsey. Did I miss someone?
Alexa is growing like a weed and it's hard to believe that it's all from breastmilk. Pumping is going well for me and I'm able to freeze about 8 oz. a day. I'm still sort of sad that I was never able to really breastfeed but Alexa is getting the benefits of the actual milk if not the benefits of the skin to skin contact. I'll take what I can get. I'm hoping to build up enough of a frozen stash where I can stop pumping around January or February. We'll probably start TTCing around that time so I need to get my hormones back in order.
Alexa has been in her full size crib since twelve weeks and began sleeping through the night a few days later. It was soooooooooo hard for me to switch her over. I liked having her in our room where I could hear every little sigh, whimper and breath and the first few nights, DH and I had our ears glued to the monitor (her room is only about 20 feet away  ). If I were in the city, I wouldn't hesitate to have her in our room in her full-size crib.
Here's Alexa's full size crib.......

jmvan~Thanks for all the compliments!
Ferris~Where are you getting your masters from? I have been tempted to get mine, but here in KS, they really try to srew teachers over IMO. So, I'm not sure if I will.
Kelsey~I know what you mean about pushing DH. Mine hates sanding, and I had to teach him how to do the paint technique because I was getting tired of standing on a chair while I was 6-7 months pg! We still have a ton of work to do in their, but I'm hoping to NOT be changing it for a long while!
sophia~I was rather intimidated when the thought of homeschooling first hit me (in HS). The more I've thought about it, though, and after getting my teaching degree, I really don't think it is going to be tough relaying the neccessary info to my daughter. What will be tough is trying to keep us both focused while at home!! ;) LOL.
Not much new here.

Thank you all for your support. Seems like after I stopped taking the meds, not only the amount I produce suffered, but also the quality. It's been like water. Gross! Thankfully, it's starting to come back up. Thank you again for all the "good milk" thoughts. :)
These days...
I've been back at work since the Tuesday after Labor Day. It's been going pretty well. Some days are certainly harder than others. I can't get over how fast my little girl is growing up. She's been sleeping in her own room since she was about 5 days old. She never slept well with us. Lately, she has extended her night sleep to approximately 7-8 hours. Lucky Keith! She certainly wasn't doing that when I was home with her. She was 100% Breast/EBM fed until she was 7 weeks old and then I fell sick and my supply plummetted. Since then, I have been able to boost it a bit, but not enough to exclusively feed her. She is bottle fed 100% of the time. 50% EBM and 50% formula. I finally made that decision around 7 weeks because of my illness/and her constant tearing up of my nipples. She is a tough sucker and my nipples never got used to it despite numerous visits with the LC. So, here we are. It's working at least.
Bumbo
Have it and love it! So does she. She has also started using her exersaucer this week and enjoys it very much. It actually keeps her entertained for 30-45 minutes!
Sophia,
Love the nursery! It's beautiful!!
Julie,
Thanks for sharing the info on Winterbride. I can't wait to see the episode!

Ben had his shots today (polio and HiB). I have one cranky baby that i was FINALLY able to get to nap in his crib. He is 13 pounds!! 3 1/2 months.
Work:I am going back Dec 7th and am just starting to think about hiring a nanny...i am not ready to put him in daycare..i just don't know where to start with l ooking for a nanny/babysitter..its scary to think of someone else having my child all day. Luckily, i'm going Wed-Fri and will be here mon and tues for him. Any tips on questions to ask in my babysitter interviews?

Sophia: Alexa's crib is adorable.
golfer: We've tried everything...every bottle and nipple. We've tried different people. different times of day and different locations..stroller, bouncy seat, etc.... The one thing I haven't tried and will try this weekend is a different flow nipple. I've tried all slow, but I have a fast let down, so I'm going to try a medium and fast flow and see if that helps. I find that the playtex with a rubber nipple seems to work most often. Still not on any regular basis, though.
Ferris and Naamah: I was a teacher, too. I moved in April and didn't try to find a new job in this town. I don't plan on Home Schooling, though. I think I'd procrastinate at home! LOL! When DS goes to school, well when our future youngest, goes to school I'll look for work again. I feel fortunate that we are in a finacial position that allows me to be SAHM.

tgr68 When I lived in California I got my teaching credential from Azusa Pacific Univerity. It's a small christian school in Azusa, Ca. When I finished with my credentials (you have to get more than 1 to teach in cali) I only had 3 classes left. Luckly they offer 2 of those classes online and then my thesis class is taken through an independent study. Here in Washington I will get about 4,000 a year more with my masters in cali I would have only gotten a 533 a year raise!!
jmvan74 I am not planning on home schooling either. I think children need that social interation that they get with their peers! Will your credential expire if you don't teach within a certain amount of years? We have to have a certain # of hours spent teaching or we lose our credentials!

It was fun to read the updates on what everyone is up to! But I didn't answer one of my own questions.
Sleeping - Dean slept in the Arm's Reach Co-sleeper attached to our bed for the first month. Pretty soon I realized that I was waking up at every little grunt and wasn't sleeping even when he was sleeping. We transitioned him to his crib, and amazingly, he sleeps better and so do I. He currently sleeps for 7 to 9 hour stretches at night, so we are really blessed. I feel so much more human when I'm getting sleep!
Homeschooling - I definitely won't formally homeschool our kids because I think they need the social interaction, and I am not nearly dedicated or talented enough to both teach them all their lessons and arrange activities for them. I know that some moms do that very well, and I am very impressed! But (God willing) DH and I will both be college professors, so we will take every opportunity to teach our kids about the things that we specialize in.
Diane: Re: bottle trouble - I'm probably responsible for Dean's reluctance to take a bottle. I really, really hate to pump, so we don't try very often. For awhile there, we were trying all the time, but he would never take it so I just wasted the milk I bothered to pump! It drove me crazy, so we don't try too much anymore. I found this link (http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/alternative-feeding.html) to be really helpful when I was trying, though.

Megande - How much does Dean weigh? He's so big - and of course such a cutie. I feel like my DS has gotten huge too.
As for the bottle feeding, thanks for the link. I'm going to call someone from La Leche League tomorrow. I feel like I totally screwed up my son. :( After a few more attempts with strange bottles/nipples today, he won't even take my breast. :( He's screaming at everything now! I feel awful and don't know which direction to turn. (stop bf'in altogether? be exclusive and suck it up and forget about ever using a bottle? or keep trying to wish he'd do both?) I love bf'ing him but just WISH he could have 1 bottle a day or as needed so I'm not chained at the boob. I'm now realizing that some practices should be regularly followed - It's not fool proof but I think it could've helped in my case. DH and I got lazy about giving him a bottle for a few weeks and now I feel like we're screwed. I'm so bummed DS was so upset again today and now has nipple confusion on top of that now! What have I done???!!!

Oh kim that is a good question I wanted to bring up--for all you moms who have 1 br apts or less-is you crib in your room? Right now DS is sleeping in the PNP in our room and his crib is in an area in the livingroom but I think I want to put it in our room
Fogot to answer this!
Our 'master' br is a rectangle. Our bedroom set & bookshelves take up 2/3 of the room and the nursery is set up at the remaining end.
DS is in a cradle next to our bed until he's sitting up.
We have a 2nd bedroom upstairs on the main floor but its a tv room/guestroom with bathroom attached. We *could* give him that room, but totally prefer having him with us. Besides, its easier to have the privacy of him not being on the main floor, where people congregate when visiting.
We have a PnP upstairs in the livingroom for naps/changing. But when we have guests its too disruptive for him to sleep there.

Ferris: My certificate is good for 3 more years. I have a Mastere of Elementary Ed. In Maryland you need to take 9 credits every 3 years to maintain your certificate, so I'll just do that. I'm thinking on getting a second master's in Reading. The Master's raise here was only $1000.
Megan: Dean is so adorable! Collin looks very similiar in his carseat! LOL! :D Gotta love our big boys.
Golfer: Sorry you are having such a tough time. We tried the bottle every day for over a month. At this point, I've pretty much resigned to EBF. I figure it's almost time to introduce solids and feedings will go down. Maybe once he's taking solids he''ll be more likely to take a bottle. Who knows. I hope you find a solution that works for you. ;)
Well, my 14 week old baby is officially teething. We went to the DR b/c I thought he had an ear infection. Nope. Teething! No rest for me.
kelseyledare
09-21-2005, 04:56 PM
jmvan74: So sorry to hear about Collin's teething. :( I felt around in DDs mouth a week or so ago b/c I noticed an increase in her drooling. Nothing yet, but I know we have some irritability to look forward to.
Homeschooling: Nope, we'll go the more traditional route, as neither DH nor I have any education experience. We're really interested in the Montessori approach for the younger grades, though.
Golfer: No other suggestions here except maybe have DH try to offer the bottle. Maybe DS just knows you have the real deal to offer and won't accept any substitutes? We're still using the Dr. Brown's slow beginner nipples for DD at daycare.

jmvan~It is so hard to get a tching job in my area. I live in a town where everybody and their brother wants to work!! You are soooooo lucky that you just have to take classes to keep up your certification. In KS, we have to teach a certain number of years in an accredited school AND take classes. Otherwise, they take away our certificate and we have to start all over with the application process. :( I really think I'm going to let mine lapse until I'm really ready to enter the workforce again.
Ferris~That is so nice they offer classes online. Wow! I can't believe the pay raise difference between those two states!!
Homeschooling~There are soooooo many community groups/opportunities for interaction outside of school here that I am not at all worried about socialization!! I have known homeschoolers though that won't allow their kids in any activities that are outside of the homeschool community, and that is very sad to me. :(
Megan~What an adorable little boy!!! That is great that Dean transitioned so well to his crib. I am worried about making that transition from the bassinet in our room to the crib in DD's room.
golfer_girl~Don't beat yourself up. Decide what to do, and stick to it. DS will eventually come around. It won't be easy, but I would much rather sacrifice a couple of days than to have my baby be miserable and not eating.
Teething~Ugh! I know what you are all going through. Here's what I posted in my journal:
Shylah has done nothing but scream most of the day. She will only sleep when I am holding her, which means I haven't been able to get anything done. She hasn't eaten since 11:30 this morning (she refuses), and it's currently 5:20. I don't know what to do. DH says he'll take her as soon as he gets home. She's also been drooling up a storm, chewing on everything, etc.
Warning: TMI~I have had a really rough day today. Cross-posted from journal:
If this wasn't stressful enough, I have been bleeding VERY heavily. I have changed my pad about every hour, only to find that it has overflowed onto my clothing. I am currently in my fourth pair of pants/shorts for the day. I called the dr, and all they say is that it is an unusually heavy period. Then why am I bleeding this much and passing clots? I have no cramps, but yesterday I did pass an unusual piece of light colored tissue (off-white color, no pink to it at all). My first thought was "Was I pg, not know it, and now I'm miscarrying?" I have been such an emotional and physical wreck. I don't think the dr's are listening to what's going on because when they call me back and talk about my "symptoms" they have them all screwed up. I have to correct them constantly on my symptoms. One dr suggest I go on BCP's that completely eliminate my AF while I'm on them. Hello? BCP's screwed up my system once before. I'm not doing them again. The other dr told me to wait it out. Ummmm......I've been bleeding like this for two days now!!!!! I'm at a loss as to what to do. Like I said I'm not sure what is going on. My regular doctor told me that if I'm still bleeding really heavily to call and they can get me in tomorrow. I'm still pretty freaked out about it though.
Well, gotta get. I'm going to try to get to bed early tonight.

Well, things are exciting around here. We live about 120 miles north of Galveston, and we are under an inland hurricane warning. Right now they expect Rita to still be a category 1 hurricane when it gets here. Traffic everywhere around us is only moving a few miles an hour and gas is really hard to find, so we are planning to stay put. Getting stuck on the road doesnt sound very appealing! Hopefully we will just be without power for a little while and everything will be ok. It wouldn't be half as stressful if we didn't have a baby! But thats the way things go, right?
Naamah - I don't know where in Texas you are going, but if I were you I'd seriously consider staying home. Things are so crazy everywhere in the state. I assume you already have a hotel booked, but if you needed to stay longer, you couldn't because there are no open rooms anywhere in north TX, and Oklahoma and Arkansas are even starting to be completely booked. Not to mention how crazy traffic is without even considering driving in a hurricane!

jmvan~Thanks for your thoughts. I called my dr's again today and I'm still waiting to hear back from one.
Megan~I thought about not going, but I haven't seen my family in nearly two years. My grandpa's health is fading, and I don't know if he will even get to meet Shylah if we don't go down for my cousins wedding. I know we are taking a risk by going at this time, but I have been watching weather channel very closely and keeping my options open for a last minute change of plans! The wedding is in Gainesville. We are planning on staying at my aunt & uncle's house, so shelter won't be a problem. What part of TX are you from?
Hurricane Rita~According to Weather Channel, they have lowered Rita to a Cat. 4, which I realize is still a very dangerous storm. They have also changed the projected path to hit more eastern in TX. Also they have said she has slowed down quite a bit and won't be in the area where we are staying until late Sunday.early Monday which is when we are planning on leaving.
Update on me~I called my OB and told them NOT to call in the perscription. DH's aunt (who is a dr of naturopathy) is sending me some hormone therapy meds that are safe for pg/bfing women. I just got off with the nurse at my reg dr's office, and they are calling me back to see whether or not to have me come in. This morning I when I woke up, the bleeding had completely stopped, even after I had gotten up and walked around. By 1:00pm (after bible study), I'm bleeding pretty heavily again. Ugh!! I just wish I knew what was going on!!!!

The news reports on Hurricane Rita have me freaked out and worried for all you Texas gals. Make sure to check in after Rita has gone her way and let us know you're okay.
Yikes Tgr! A woman's body can do some funky things after pregnancy (I had another case of the splotches on my face that I mentioned a couple of months ago  ) but your bleeding sounded scary. I hope all is well with you. Love the photos of Shylah. She's gorgeous.
Ferris-Alexa will be 4 months on Monday. Time is going waaaaaaaaaaay too fast. I'm not liking it. Soon ALexa will be in school, then crying about boyfriends and soon we'll be putting down deposits for her wedding. Hopefully this will all happen after she's potty-trained. *snicker*
Mrs. Chappy-poor little Ben. Alexa had a minor little case of the sniffles and I of course fuh-reaked! It's scary when they are so little but I'm sure he will be fine.
Something funny. There is user on CC who goes by Sophiadp . I've come across her posts several times and each time I think "Oh, I don't remember writing that" before I realize it isn't me! Growing up, I was almost always the only Sophia wherever I went so it's strange to find someone else with almost the exact same name. Like I've got a doppelganger out there somewhere. Weird.

MrsChappy; I hope Ben is feeling better.
Naamah: Shylah is such a cutie.
Kelsey: Teething is no fun. My poor little boy has been so fussy and not sleeping well.
Megan: I hope you are safe and dry.
Sophia: That is so strange that another user has a user name so similiar to yours. :p
Collin is feeling a bit better. I just try to keep him distracted from his tooth pain by changing activities often. He loves to suck on a frozen wash cloth or a cold teething ring. We;ve been using Tylenol just about every day. I hope those teeth pop through soon. I don't see any little bumps yet.

hey, checking in. DH is of on his first business trip since Ben was born. He will be gone until friday night and i am devastated..i know i can take care of the baby by myself..i do it all the time when he is at work late but its just knowing that he isn't coming home at all that makes me sad. Anyway, i cried when he left two hours ago and i think i upset the baby who was cranky (which is not like him at all). So, i will do my best to carry on..its only 6 days and i'm going to my parents house Tues thru thurs or fri. Can anyone relate? I know its not the end of the world..but its hard.
Ben is feeling better but i think he might be teething..he is chewing on the bottle like crazy (but nursing well when i put him to the breast..i love hearing those gulps).
TGR68: i hope you are feeling better..let us know what's going on.That's scary.

Sophia~I've heard of other Sophia's, but it doesn't seem to be that common of a name. How funny that you met someone else with that name on CC!
jmvan~Thanks! Does Colin seem to be fussy all the time or just more fussy at his "usual" times (when he's hungry or tired)? Shylah isn't fussing more often, but rather more intensely when she does fuss. :(
MrsChappy~I can relate to DH being out of town. He went to Vegas back in August for 3 days. I ended up going to my dad's house while he was out of town. I know I would've gone crazy being by myself with a new baby!
I am feeling better. The bleeding just kinda stopped out of the blue. Not sure what happen there. The dr's still say that it was just a heavy period.
We made it down to TX with no problems, and Rita stayed far away!! Speaking of, Megan, how are thigns where you are at?

Thanks for your concern, everyone. We made it just fine. When the storm moved eastward, it bypassed my area, thank goodness. We just got a lot of strong winds and some minor tree damage ;).
Sophia - I saw that other user the other day and was *so* confused! I'm glad that you mentioned something about it, because I was starting to think that I was really loosing it :)
Namaah- I'm glad that you made it to Texas without any problems! Did you have fun at the wedding? Shylah is too cute!!
Mrs. Chappy - I'm sorry that you are going to have to be by yourself this week!! Derek is going on a business trip in November and I am already dreading it! It just makes it hard to have to do everything by yourself *and* not have a grown up around to talk to!

Ladies Flying Solo: My DH will also be at a trial out of town in October, but I am taking a vacation week to visit my family in NC. He was gone once already (just one night) around 2 weeks of age, and it was definitely tough. DD was getting up every 2-3 hrs at night to eat and not on a schedule during the day. I think it will be easier now that our DC are older, but I totally agree with Megan that the adult company is missed! I love seeing pictures of everyone's baby, but I'd really like to see some pictures of Mommies and babies! I know that we are usually the ones taking the pictures, so it is sometimes hard to get any. Me & My Boy
Nope, no one EVER takes pictures of us together. I guess because it's not a "moment to capture" since we're always together. :( Anyway, I ask people to take them for us every so often. Here's one from a few weeks ago:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b329/kimtomtom/trbmom.jpg
Flying Solo
DH went away for 2 weeks so far since DS was born. It is pretty tough doing it all alone, but then again I don't feel guilty going to bed as soon as DS is asleep when he's not around! I really caught up on sleep while he was gone, lol.
Teething
He definitely has a white bump, and enjoys chewing on refrigerated wet washcloths, my finger and has been obsessed with binkies (which he usually won't take unless he's tired). The Baby Oragel says only to use it 4x a day (so I am definitely saving that for the nights!). He was soooo cranky last night he cried/fussed from 9-10:30pm until he finally conked out a little before 11pm. But he was only up 1x for a feeding at 4am then slept til 8:30 or so. I think he was uncomfortable so if he does the same thing tonight I'll give him a dose of Tylenol after his bath & feeding before bed.
I find he's only cranky at night if he's uncomfortable with something. He did the same thing - fine all day, fussy at night - when he had gas from my drinking milk and when he had a small infection. I think his defenses are just down when he's tired, so if he's gonna show he's upset about something he'll do it in the evenings.
Activities
So, is everyone doing activities, getting involved with other moms?
I am doing everything I can to meet other moms, so over the winter we have people to visit/go out with when it's too cold to be outdoors.
So far we do music class, baby yoga, play group, and soon we start a 6-week series with 12 other moms that's a different activity each week.

MrsChappy: Congrats on losing 6lbs! That's great. I've been thinking about joining weight watchers, but I only need to lose about 10lbs and don't want people to look at me wierd... Does that make sense? Glad to hear Ben is feeling better. Your DH will be home before you know it. ;)
Naamah: DS is more fussy at his normal times and he has bouts of fussiness periodically if Ii don't keep him busy. There have been times when he out right screams and cries. :( Poor baby. How was the wedding?
Megan: Glad you weathered the storm. Cute pic.
Pics with DC: There are hardly any, unless I ask for one. I am usually the one clicking away. However, we just got a new camcorder and DH seems to be enjoying that, so I'll at least be in the videos! LOL! I'll post a pic of us.

Activities: I went to a lunch date with the MOMS club in my area today. It was good, but there were only 3 other women there and their children were considerably older than Dean and they were considerably older than I am. It didn't feel like a "make lifelong friends" kind of situation, but it was nice to get out of the house. I had to be quite brave to do it, though. I didn't even know if they were with the club, I just had to walk up to a table with two ladies and some kids and ask. I want to get involved with a playgroup, so hopefully I will find where I fit in to this whole thing soon. I also go to LLL meetings twice a month, and I have met some other mommies through that. I live in a college town, so it can be difficult to find other moms.
Julie - Collin is SO cute!! I love those rosy cheeks!

Megan - (Great Picture!) Yes, I hate that I don't have a lot of pics or videos WITH my DS too! I do most of the picture taking so I'm not most of them! I'm going to set up a few tripods in the house so I can capture more of "us" if I can. I feel silly doing it but I'm bummed I don't get a ton. DH carries him more when he's home cause my arms are so tired so I end up getting DH and DS together the most! OK, I'm jealous! Also, good for you asking the ladies about playgroups. I'm planning on doing the same things on any outings that I can. There is a park nearby that I plan on hitting.
Activities - I'm getting funky staying home all the time. OK, grouchy. I need a little more interaction and getting out of the house (not errands). I told my DH that being a SAHM is great but our home is my job site, and I never really leave and work never ends. So, I need to get out more. He's all for it but I'm having a hard time finding groups too. Kim, could you tell me where to look too? I'd love some help if you have any time at all...
Julie - cute pic too!

DH and I do a pretty good job of getting photos of each other with Alexa although it honestly is an effort. It's so much easier to just take pictures of the baby that we have to remind ourselves to get in the photos with her.
Here's one from last night:
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3A%3A58323232%7Ffp64%3Dot%3E232%3C%3D665%3D3%3 A7%3DXROQDF%3E2323%3B36859662ot1lsi
Here is Alexa's 4 month photo:

and her 3 month photo for comparison:

Megan~Glad you made it through okay! :) We had a great time at the wedding! Thanks for asking! Great pic!
Kelsey~Thanks!
Kim~Great pic!!
QOTD~Need to get some. I think the last ones I have of DD and I are in the hospital. :(
Teething~DD is still a major fussbucket these days! I know her teeth are really bothering her when she refuses to eat (which happens about every other day now). When that happens, I have to give her Tylenol, then rock her for a gew minutes, and then she will eat.
Activities~I am in a weekly bible study with other women. There is one girl there that is pg and due in Oct. I just need to get on the ball and get out more! DH has been great about making sure I get out a few times per week, and he even suggested talking to some other dad's about treating their wives to a Girls Night Out while they watch the kids!!! :D I have the best DH!
jmvan~That sounds like DD. The wedding was great! I'm working on getting some pics uploaded from this weekend. Great pic!!
sophia~Love the picture! You are just positively beaming in it! I can't believe how much Alexa has grown in the last month! What a cutie!
Well, the wedding was great. No problems from Rita! During the reception though, we did notice a few ominous looking clouds. The ceremony lasted about 15-20 minutes (short, sweet, and to the point). The reception was a blast. They did finger food and had a brass ensemble playing outside! The cake cutting and toasting was done inside the B&B where the reception took place. My cousin's bride was absolutely gorgeous!! I'll get some pics uploaded here in a few.

Naamah,
Beautiful pics!
Hey, {B]Roseanne![/B] I tried to keep up with the May/June thread, but it moves too fast for me.
AF
Returned at exactly 10 weeks pp for me, so I've only had her once. Just really light spotting that last 2-3 days. Now, my cycles are really long. I o'd on CD 27 this month. Normally, I o between CD 14 and 19.

AF No AF for me yet, but I have sworn she felt like she was on her way back for weeks. I have been crampy and feel like she's coming but she doesn't! In the back of my head I am worried that I am preggo because of the crampy and no period! Let's hope not! I don't want Irish twins!!
LIZ I think we were like 3 weeks apart in EDD! Weren't you due near the end of the month?
Back to tummy roll over I forgot to post that my little guy rolled from his back to his tummy yesterday!! I was so excited that I scared him!!
4 month appointment
Length-24.5
Weight-14 pounds (he hadn't eaten very much, he usually weights 15 when we go to bed at night!)
He had 4 shots today, the first 2 he just cried, but when she switched legs and gave him his third shot he freaked out! My poor little guy. It only took him a minute or so to calm down, but his eyes were filled with tears!
Solids My doc said we can start them anytime we think he's ready. She told me to watch him and see if he's interesed in what we are eating. I am not sure of that, but she said we should feed him solids before 6 months. She said that they need to experience carbs before that time because kids who weren't exposed to carbs before 6 months had a higher chance of getting type 2 diabities.
Gotta run and do homework! It's SO hard getting my school work done!!

LizNKeith: I too can't keep up with the May/June thread. I try to but its so hard.

We experiemnted with some thinned-out cereal last night, but I don't think DD is ready. She kept pushing it out of her mouth with her tongue. So, I guess we'll try again once we get back from Vegas and see how she does then.

Hi ladies..my benjamin has begun to rollover from back to belly. Twice i put him down on his back, walked away and came back to him fussing on his belly. The bugger won't do it with me watching!
Good luck on the plane liz..the baby will do fine! our first trip was in August when he was 10 weeks. Fed him on the runway, nursed in the air, and another bottle on landing. just bring plenty of bottles. your feeding sched. will go out the window.

Dean has started to consistently roll from his belly to his back (he HATES to be on his belly!). He did it three times on his three month old "birthday". Apparently he can get on his side from his back, too, because Derek walked in to check on him last night and he was laying on his side sucking his thumb! :D
Solids-My doctor told us not to start before 6 months. I think it is beause Dean is EBF, and that is the AAP recommendation. And he is obviously not having trouble gaining weight, he is 17 pounds at 3 months old!!! It will be hard for me to wait, though. Since he won't take a bottle, I can never leave for more than 2 hours!

(I know I ended up a May Mom, but my heart is with you guys....)
My Ped said rice cereal was OK for 4 months to 6 months. He said it was important for James to "learn" how to eat. However, the nutritional value of rice cereal wasn't really that important. Really, we're just teaching him a new skill.

Hi Wendy and Rosanne .
Rolling; I'm in the same boat as most of you. DS will roll from back to belly when he feels like it. He always rolls from his back to his side when he's playing or sleeping.
Solids: DS is 15 weeks and we started rice cereal this week. He loves it. Now when I eat my cereal in the morning he watches wiith his tongue out! LOL!
Teething; I can see two white bumps on his upper gums! I'm so afraid he's going to start biting my boob!

OMGosh! I can't believe how big my girl is getting! We are starting to put away her 0-3mos. clothing! Now I have to go shopping for some long-sleeved stuff. The temps literally plummeted overnight, and I still have a closet full of sleeveless stuff. :( I may get some basic white or pink onsies to layer under the sleeveless items.
Well, gotta get. I've got grocery shopping to do tonight, and still need to finish my list. Plus floors still need to be vacuumed and kitty litter changed. Ah! The work of a SAHM never ends! ;)

Sleeveless clothing: we've found that the daycare keeps the infant room temp cooler than we like for DD. especially since most of her 0-3 mos clothing is sleeveless rompers or dresses. So we bought some white onesies and layer those under almost all her outfits. There are some outfits we just save for home wear b/c they look too strange with the white onesie, but it's a great way to get more use out of her clothes ;)
Shoes/Booties: Speaking of cooler temps, we can't keep socks on DD's feet. She rubs them off constantly so the daycare takes them off (so they won't get lost). But DD's feet get chilly so we bought her some soft booties from Wal-Mart that have a velcro strap across the ankle to help hold them on. I'd like to get her some more booties like this, but Wal-Mart doesn't have anything bigger until you hit actual shoes. Anyone have any luck finding anything similar??

I apologize to everyone. I'm got a million things going, number one being my health. We found out last week when I was having some bloodwork done that there is something wrong with my thyroid. I have since had two more blood tests done. I would have been seen this week but my OB is out of town today and Friday. So I go Monday. It really explains some of the symptoms I've been having. I'll post more about it later but I just wanted everyone to know that I didn't just leave because I wanted to.
I'm extremely tired all the time, have fatigue, no energy, muscle weakness, hair falling out like crazy, mood swings, intolerance to warm/hot temperatures, irritability, depression, insomnia (which goes wonderful with the extreme tiredness) and a host of other things including abnormal/irregular bleeding. I just thought that the tiredness and fatigue was because I was doing a lot. Taking care of DD around the clock because my DH is at work a lot and then in class three nights a week and doing housework and taking care of the animals. I just thought the depression was because DD won't get the chance to enjoy either of her grandfathers. In case you don't remember my FIL passed away VERY unexpectedly in early May. I was almost 33 weeks at the time. It wasn't something that we were expecting and we are still dealing with the aftermath. My father's health isn't great. We both wanted our children to be able to enjoy their grandfathers and sadly, now that won't happen. Yes, we will be able to tell them stories and show pictures but it just isn't the same.
We aren't quite sure but we (I) have an idea what I have. I'm just waiting on the official diagnosis, which hopefully will come Monday.

Wendy,
Silly girl! You know you are always welcome in here. I wouldn't feel right if any of our Mommies who delivered early weren't in here. Speaking of, has anyone "talked" with Saathei? Is she over here?
Meri,
Oh my goodness! At least you have answers for all of your ailments now. Hopefully they'll be able to treat it and get you back on your feet. (((HUGS)))
Solids
Tried doing some rice cereal on Wednesday (15 week birthday), but she didn't seem quite ready for it. Just kept pushing it out with her tongue. Think we'll try again in a few more weeks. Maybe once we get back from Vegas. Funny thing though, I figured we'd feed her in the living room because I was doing laundry and there were clothes all stacked up on the kitchen table. I mean, how much mess can a 3.5 month old make? Right? Well, she ended up kicking the bowl of cereal out of my hand. I watched as rice cereal flew all over my living room and soaked in to my carpet. I guess we're not safe at any age. :)

Meri-Sorry to hear about your tiredness and depression. I hope everything works out and your life returns to some semblance of normal. Hang in there.
Dreshny-I was wondering where you were! Glad to have you back.
Solids-I am not doing any form of solids until 6 months minimum, maybe even 7 or 8 months. Alexa is doing great on breast milk. Her 4 month check up was Wednesday and she was 14 lbs. 11 ozs., 25" , ALL FROM BREAST MILK! I don't believe the idea of being prone to diabetes if carbs aren't introduced before a certain time. Throughout the history of humans, until just recently with the industrial revolution, babies had been exclusively breastfed until 2, 3, even 4 years of age. That was how we evolved so I tend to poo-poo any of the scares about having to feed solids before a certain time period. Those theories just don't makes sense based on long standing history. *off my soapbox*
Period-I'm pretty sure I got my first one July 4th weekend although I was still passing lochia at the time. I didn't have anything after that and actually started having morning sickness symptoms which freaked me out! Nausea, headaches, tiredness, etc. After 5 negative pregnancy tests, I went to the doctor and a blood test confirmed that I was not pregnant again. The doctor just said that my body was still adjusting post-partum and that I would back to normal soon. Well, I got my period yesterday and it came with a VENGEANCE! Very heavy. My period usually lasts 2 1/2 days so I'm curious to see how long this gusher is going to be around for. *shrug*
Huh? I'm not a June mommy?-You know, I never even thought about going to another thread. I've been with this group since the beginning and despite Alexa's May 26 birthdate, with this group I will stay. In one short year, we've shared more good times, heartbreaks, fears, concerns and joyous milestones than I can count and I would miss you all if I left. I just wish we all lived closer so we could have a monthly playdate! I'd bring the coffee cake. :D
Edited to say that I went back to the three Junebug threads on WC and cut and pasted my entries into three journals, one for each trimester. I printed them up and put them in Alexa's memory box so when she is older she can read all about her fetal journey. It was really amazing to read some of those original entries and sort of sad too given hindsight. I am lousy with journals and diaries but this is a perfect forum to keep track of those little milestones that I am too lazy to document in Alexa's progress book. I know Alexa will get a kick out of them and I will too when I read them years from now.

Sophia: I'm with you on the delaying solids. I figure he has his whole life to eat solid food, so why rush it? :) (And, um, I hate to disagree with anyone's ped, so please feel free to ignore me, but I just went to a seminar where they said that the introduction of rice cereal BEFORE 6-9 months makes a child more prone to diabetes later.)
And since you're right across the river, I really would be interested in a playday, especially if you bring coffeecake. :D
Period: Not yet. No signs of it. Though I'm nursing every hour and a half or so during the day. Asher is a huge comfort nurser, but he generally STTN.
Meri: I hope it all gets figured out. Feel better!

Meri~{{{{{HUGS}}}}} Sorry about everything. I know it's a bit of a drive, but if you need someone to hang out with, you know that I'm not too far away! ;)
Shoes/Booties~ILs found DD a few cute pairs of shoes at Walmart. It's the BabyConnection brand in as small as 0-3mos. I don't put DD in the too often, but we do have shoes now in every size up to a year!
December~Cool. I love the name Parker, BTW!
I thought I saw Saathei around here, but it's only been once. She's over at LJ a majority of the time!
LIZ~Ugh! Sorry about the spilled cereal. These DDs of ours do a great job of keeping us on our feet, don't they? ;)
sophia~Hehehehe about the soapbox! I would have to agree with you though. It doesn't make sense some of the things those in power are putting out there, especially since BF well into the toddler years was the norm for so long! YIKES on the possible pgcy! I really want future kids, but I don't think I could handle two this close together! I, too, went through my pgcy journal on WC and copied and pasted for a pgcy scrapbook. It's nothing fancy, but there were some great quotes and stories in there that I'm sure I'll enjoy reading through the years! I plan on doing one for each of my kids. :D
Solids~I plan on starting solids around 6 months. Then I will wean DD around a year. To help with the engorgement, I will probalby pump a little during weaning to give to DD in a sippy cup. That way once she is weaned, then we will have already introduced and transitioned her to a cup!
Tonight is homecoming for my HS alma mater. We are going to the game, and Shylah is going to stay with her great-grandma since it will be cold. Tomorrow is our town's annual Fall Festival. I am really excited for it because so many of my HS classmates come back for it, and I'm just a little anxious to show off my daughter! ;)

Since we are still talking about introducing solids, here (http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/solids-diabetes.html) is a link to information and articles that talk about the introduction of solids and diabetes. In short, a study found that the risk was increased if solids were introduced before 3 months or after 7 months. But there has also been a lot of controversy about the study.
Here is the AAP's recommendation (http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics%3b100/6/1035) :
Exclusive breastfeeding is ideal nutrition and sufficient to support optimal growth and development for approximately the first 6 months after birth. Infants weaned before 12 months of age should not receive cow's milk feedings but should receive iron-fortified infant formula. Gradual introduction of iron-enriched solid foods in the second half of the first year should complement the breast milk diet. It is recommended that breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter for as long as mutually desired.
I don't know about the recommendations for babies who are not exclusively breastfed. It may be optimal to introduce solids earlier in that case.

Hello gals - Just wanted some support. I'm totally devestated. I went to emergency on Thursday and was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. The right half of my face is paralyzed. Temporary they say, but with no real time frame. I'm lucky if it'll be a month or it could be up to a year. I just want to cry all the time now. I have difficulty eating, drinking, talking and closing my right eye. I have to tape my eye shut sometimes cause it get's too dry. I feel like a monster. I hate my DH seeing my crooked face and wonder if my DS thinks mommy looks weird. My DH says it's not bad or noticable unless I point it out and that it must feel worse than it looks. He's supportive and says it'll be ok and that I'll be able to smile again. I'm sure it's true but I feel horrible. Has anyone ever had this or anyone you know? I'm PRAYING I may have a quick and complete recovery (many people never get total recovery). I'm just so depressed now. How could this wonderful time in my life be so overshadowed by this? I feel so unlucky. I just hope it will go away completely. I'm so sorry I'm posting this horrible personal issue since I know there are others here that have issues too. I just really need to get it off my chest. I just need some support and I don't want anyone to see me let alone I don't want to have a conversation with anyone cause it's awkward to even talk. .... sigh....

oh golfer I am so sorry!! My ex SIL had and I think still has it. She was diagonsed right after her wedding. To be honest-after a while I never even noticed it--really. I haven't seen her in some time but I know there were treaments that she could have done and never did them. Now my FIL and cousin both had it and recovered from it. PLEASE seek a second opinion and go to a neroligust and see what kind of treatments they have--I know it must be hard but I am sure it looks way more worse to you then it does to other people

Allyson - thanks for writing. it's weird, the stats are all over that it's not as uncommon as I feel, but I feel so alone.
The worst part of this whole thing is that I had to suddenly stop BF'ing cause of the intense medications. If you remember, my DS couldn't take from a bottle anymore. He's had to learn all over again in the last 2 days and it's been miserable. He's finally doing it just a little but it hasn't been easy. I see he's dehydrated cause he's not eating/drinking close to a 3rd of what he normally consumes on breast. He has urine crystals in his diaper (pinkish) which I learned from his doc that's how you tell when he's dehydrated. I have to hear him scream for mommy's milk and it breaks my heart. He especially has a hard time with the bottle from me so it's up to DH and my sis who's have both been great trying to break him. I also didn't have more than a few days of expressed milk supply frozen so I'm using only 1 packet per day. So, the formula thing too (the quick change) has given him severe constipation. Constipation, dehydration, the crying. It's all breaking my heart!

golfer~Big {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you! :( My FIL had Bell's Palsy. He was a little freaked at first, but has gone on to a complete recovery and living a very normal life!! I'm so sorry you had to quit BFing cold turkey, and that you are having difficulty getting DS to take a bottle. Could you give DS some Pedialyte to help with the dehydration? I'm not sure when it's safe to start giving it to infants, so ask you ped for any ideas. I hope that this stressful time is VERY short for you and your family!

Thyroid conditions are so crazy on the body. My SIL just had surgery on her thyroid, so I am familiar with all the different issues. Sorry to hear you're getting a bit beaten down. Take care of yourself, and good luck with getting better quick.
golfer_girl
I am so sorry - how frustrating! I just looked Bell's Palsy up on http://www.bellspalsy.ws/ which has some simplified info, and it does sound pretty optimistic for recovery. I'm sorry this came about. Here's hoping it goes away very quickly. And I'm sure you don't look a monster!! Your hubby & baby love you and see your beauty - this is just a temporary nerve issue, which could never cover up "you". Get some rest, let DH take care of you for a couple days and hopefully this will pass real fast.
As for the change in feeding, that would be hard for anyone to deal with. I remember you saying he wouldn't take the bottle...but babies know what's best, so I'm sure he'll soon start to eat again and he'll be okay. Thinking of you...take care.
BFing and Solids
I don't see why we should introduce solids anytime soon, though being a quasi-vegetarian maybe DS could benefit from the iron in a little of the baby oatmeal sometime in his 5th month or so?? It's on my list of things to ask the Ped on Tuesday.
sophiapb
May/June...It's all the same. And I like my coffee cake with the crumbly topping, please. :) And is Dreshny right, you are close by? Woman, we 3 must get together then. My life should calm down in another week or so, then I'm up for another meet.
Socks
Speaking of which....anyone know of a company that does knee-socks for baby boys? Thomas is so long-legged that the 6 month clothes are too short in the leg, so they get chilly in this cooler weather.
I've got some NowaLi sock booties for the colder weather, but they're too warm for just now.
QOTD: Diaper Bags
Anyone else in love with their bag?
I have the OiOi Siwrl Print CarryAll, and it totally rocks. So organized, lightweight, I get asked about it by moms literally at least once a week. My new friend actually just ordered one, she was so impressed. I recommend this to everyone! I got mine as a gift from someone in the baby product industry, she says it's the best diaper bag she's seen in many many years.
http://www.strollandgo.com/ProductImages/small/oi-5602.jpg
For a smaller bag to carry when DS is in his Bjorn, I just ordered the OiOi Hobo. The inside is organized with pockets galore for someone on the go. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Hi everyone. I will try and get the stats updated. I'm just trying to rest as much as possible. I'm so hoping that we find out what the problem is (even though I have a good idea as to what it is) on Monday. I have a feeling that I'm going to be having more tests done as it's standard practice to have at least one more test done to be sure what the treatment will be. Of course I'm getting ahead of myself until we know for sure.
golfer_girl ~ My mom worked with a woman (has known her for years and years and is really, really good friends with her) who developed Bell's Palsy. I'll ask her (if I remember) tomorrow about what happened with her. I know she doesn't have it now. I also remember that Dilley woman (the one that had the sextuplets in Indiana..I can't remember her first name) developed while she was pregnant but after she delivered the babies it went away.
I have saved all the old threads on my computer and plan on printing them out (I know it's going to take a lot of paper and ink but there are some really interesting things in those threads). I have also done the same thing (saved them...haven't printed them yet) with my journals. I have also done the same thing with other threads on the other message boards.

kim: Oooh, thanks for the info on the Nowali shoe sock things. Muuuch cheaper than the Robeez boots I was eyeing.
I've found them from $18-22 in different stores, but much cheaper on eBay. They also have a website at www.nowali.com - look under Moccasins. There are 2 kinds I have felt/seen in person:
Cableknit
http://www.nowali.com/store_images/product_images/365.jpg
And non-cableknit (comes in solids, stripes, dots, prints, etc), which I find to be a little warmer than the cableknit. I got them for when it's colder out.

Oh golfer, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. To have to stop BF and get your DS on a bottle so quickly is terrible. I am certainly thinking about you! I am a doctor, though I don't deal with Bell's palsy, but I really like the eMedicine articles for good, concise info. Here is the link for Bell's palsy:
http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic56.htm
Here is a highlighted quote I thought might help cheer you up.
"Of patients with Bell palsy, 85% achieve complete recovery."
It sounds like you got immediate medical attention (are you on steriods and acyclovir?) so you are doing all the right things. I would see your regular family/internal med doctor as soon as possible. And ask for a referral to a neurologist and/or ophthalmologist if your primary care doctor does not seem comfortable with the diagnosis and treatment.
It sounds like you are keeping a close eye on your DS and doing everything possible to help his transition. My DD was constipated on just BM so we added 2 oz of pear or white grape juice per day to help her. You might consider trying that or a glycerin suppository. I'd also talk with your ped so he/she knows you are going through this difficult transition to a bottle and formula and may offer some other suggestions.
We are definitely thinking about you and your DS!!

Golfer - GREAT BIG HUGS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom had Bell's Palsy twice, actually. Once was when she was 18, the second time was when she was 51. She ended up having it on both sides of her face. If you're interested, I'm sure she'd be happy to talk with you about it! PM me if you'd like to talk with her!
I can tell you she recovered completely both times! The second time took a couple of months, and I remember her saying she felt the side of her face start to "tingle" just before it started to get better.
I can tell you, too, from my perspective that she thought she looked worse than anyone else did. Sure, I could see it, but it didn't look very bad. She thought it was much more pronounced that it appeared to others.
Hugs to you and your son. He'll get through this, too! Babies are SO resilient, he'll adjust just fine!!!!

Kim and Dreshny. I saw the posting for the NY/NJ baby group a couple of weeks ago and enviously read about the Hoboken GTG (or was it Jersey City?) and the Loews movie mornings as I sat chained to my desk. I am back at work full-time so my weekdays are shot but if anyone has an available Saturday or Sunday, I would love to meet up. I live in the South Brunswick, NJ area but have no problem driving into the city with a crumbly-topped coffeecake. :D
Golfer, I almost cried when I read your post. I can't imagine what you are going through and I'm sure that hearing your son cry is the worst part of the deal. It broke my heart to read that part. I have read that Bell Palsy in not uncommon in pregnant woman as well as post-partum and does seem to clear up quickly when it is linked to pregnancy. Not sure how much solace that gives you as you are searching for Scotch tape for your eye but know that we all adore you and are sending you positive vibes for a fast recovery.
Meri, do you need help maintaining this thread? I've never managed a thread but I could probably handle cutting and pasting members' info to the front page if that would help you at all. I know you have a lot on your plate so give me a yell if you need anything. Hope you are feeling better.

When DS is snotty I give him 1 squirt per nostril of the non-medicated baby saline nasal spray, then a few minutes later use the Little Noses infant nasal aspirator to suck out the boogies. Works really well and isn't as uncomfortable as the regular booger bulb I have.

I called the OB to try and find out what I can take for my sinuses while breastfeeding. Blahh. I feel like such a slob. I went yesterday to my OB. He told us that I have hyperthyroidism. He said that had I developed this during my pregnancy that he would have no problems treating me but wants me to see an internist since I'm not pregnant. I go next week for that consultation. I was kind of hoping that it would be this week but oh well. We will discuss treatment options, what it means for me, and other things. And we plan on talking about my future pregnancies and if there are risks involved for the babies or myself. I just want to get it back under control and start feeling like myself again.
He told us not to get pregnant until we have the problem under control. We weren't going to anyway. At least not until late next year or early 2007.
I'll try and get the updates done today.

Remember to post updates in RED please. It makes them easier to find. Plus put something about update in the subject line.
If you have a picture please post picture in the subject and then that it's okay to post on the first page.
Also, would you like to have the DOB's listed before or after DC's name in your stats?

Teething
The white bump i thought was a tooth is a mucus buildup (where a canine tooth would be), very common per my ped. Doesn't mean the drooling, chomping and random restlessness have gone away!
BTW: did everyone see the list of baby poisons i listed in the may/june thread? There is an ingredient called Benzocaine in some teething products that is poisonous to kids.

Adorable chatter, adorable t-shirt, lol. I love when DS talksto me!
Last week when I was in the dreary, uber-qiuet Social Security office waiting to change my name (yes, i know i have been married 2 years...minor detail) Thomas was quietly napping...until i got to the window. :p Then he decided to squeal with delight and LOUDLY tell everyone in there about his day so far. Omigosh, that is totally that way I am feeling too. I used to be very "rah-rah, no drugs" and "natural all the way" but since I've had a c-section, the thought of doing a vaginal delivery freaks me out! I mean, women have been doing them for eons but I just can't comprehend going through it now. What's the matter with me? Any vaginal birth mommies want to calm me down?
QOTD-When are you going to go for another pregnancy? Since it took so long for us to get pregnant the first time, currently we are not avoiding but we will be all out trying come March. I'm flippin' 38  and don't have any time to waste.

Vaginal Delivery
As someone whose body said to her: "Tough $hit if you wanted a relaxing delivery with an epi"...please allow me to honestly say it really wasn't that bad. Scary, wierd, but not as painful as I thought it could be.

ANother BabyWe are planning on waiting till Dougie is at least 2 maybe 3. I want to work for at least a year before giving birth again! I will only be 30 or 31 then so I think that's a good age. It will also allow me some alone time with my little guy before bring another blessing into the picture.
DH is home already! My DH works long hours. He leaves the house by 6:30 and doesn't get home till 7, but last night he worked until 1 am!! So today he took the afternoon off. It's nice to see him when it's still light outside!
I missed Winterbride!:( I had it autotuned, but I was at my mom making Dougie Halloween costume and totally forgot! When is she on again?
Dreshny
10-06-2005, 06:34 PM
Next baby: I'd like to try when DS is about 3, or at least before I'm 35 (just turned 31), but it depends on our financial/space situation. My mom had my brother when I was 2 1/2 and I was just old enough to feel "replaced" and not yet old enough to be excited about a sibling. Anyway, I'd ideally like to have 3 kids, but there are a lot of factors at play.
Vaginal delivery: It's really not as scary as it sounds. I didn't have an epidural, and for me, labor was quick and very intense, but once it was over, it was over. I'd totally do it again. :)

Thanks for all your kind comments on Shylah!!! I thought that would be a fun website to "showcase" our little ones milestones, etc.
I missed Winterbride. :( I thought I was going to be at work, but I ended up not going in, and then I remembered she was on after the show went off!
kelsey~She rolled for the first time yesterday!!! She hasn't since then though.
Teething~No teeth here, but still lots of drooling, fussiness, putting things in our mouth, etc.
VBAC? I am still totally for a VBAC. I think I'd be just as nervous if I go for a VBAC as I was with the possibility of a vaginal birth this time around.
QOTD~We want to start trying again when Shylah is about a year and a half (Dec 06/Jan 07). DH really wants an October baby for our next one, and we want our kids approx 2 years apart. Wow! We don't plan things out to a tea or anything. LOL! ;)
Well, DH wants on the computer to check his stuff, and I need to go check on a screaming baby fighting sleep. Nighty-night!

Next baby: Total dilemma over this one. I'd like to have them 2 years apart and maybe have three children total. But it would be more compatible with my work situation to wait 3 or even 4 years (not happening) before our next one. I have no idea how to balance the situation. Sigh.
Delivery: I was induced at 39 wks and had an epidural. I would definitely go that route again (if baby will cooperate ;) ). It worked very well for me and my family (they were all out of town and were able to be at the hospital for her birth). I work in OB part of the time so I do realize that you have to be flexible b/c labor never goes exactly as planned, and you might end up with C/S, assisted delivery, etc. Getting your healthy baby safely into the world is the most important :)
Surfboard: Thanks to everyone who recommended the surfboard for tummy time. We bought DD one last week, and she's doing really well on it. I'd love to get an exersaucer next, but am waiting since her daycare tuition really eats into our discretionary fund spending

Aw I totally missed Winterbride!
VBAC I am totally going to try for it! My doctor has already advised me against it. I told DH I have NO problem changing doctors if she is being unreasonable about it.
QOTD You girls are already talking about another baby! Oh my! lol We won't be TTC for awhile. One reason being we are going to do some major renovations to our house in 2007. We will have to move out and it will be too hard to move out with 2 kids and 2 pets. Another reason is I want some quality, one on one, time with DD before #2.

VBAC:I've been advised against this b/c DS was only 6lbs and wouldn't come out after 2 hours of pushing. I see no reason to put myself through the stress of labor and a c/s again, so I will do a scheduled c next time.
QOTD:We will start trying sometime after DS first birthday, but if life throws it our way sooner we will take what we get. We're not using any "formal" birth control. I'd like to have pretty close together so I can go back to work sooner. I won't go back until our youngest starts school.
Winterbrideis on again on Oct. 13. I think at 9 or 9:30am

checking in..i missed winterbride also.
Next child? i can't think about it now..my crotch hurts just thinking about it!! JK..i had the epi and loved it. I think i;ll wait for DH to tell me he wants another..i sort of planned this one around tax season (married an accoutant). So, i'd say at least 2 years or whenever it happens. However, if its another boy i then want to try for a girl..i think DH wants to stop at 2.

Can I Join?
I know this is a pretty established group, but I'd like to join. I peeked in on the June thread over on WC occasionally but never posted.
Me: Shann, 30
DH: 33
Married: August 17, 2002
EDD: June 28, 2005
Gender Prediction: Boy
DS: Brady
ADD: June 22, 2005
Time: 9:03pm
Weight: 6 lb, 15 oz
Length: 20 inches
Next Child: Good question. Ideally about 2 years apart. My brother and I are about 2 1/2 years and its been great having that spacing between us...not too close to be competitive with each other, but close enough that we are able to share experiences and be friends growing up. It was interesting though because after DS was born, I was ready to do it all over again (right away!), but now I've come back down off of cloud 9 and am thinking more rationally about the spacing. We'll see what happens.
Vaginal Birth: I'm with the others that say it wasn't as bad as they thought it might be...I did do it unmedicated, but I will sing high praise to the support I had (DH, doula, midwife), changing positions often, and the TENS unit I used (electric pulse gadget used alot in physical therapy that helps overload the pain sensors...very common in the UK and its unfortunate it isn't even presented as an option most places here).

LMAO!
Welcome, Hedgegirl. I love the name Brady. If the next baby is a boy that is the top of my list. ;)

Old Navy and The Gap websites are both down at the moment. :( I will have to check there later.
We did pick up a snow suit thing at Walmart today for about $20. That should be good for a while, but we need something when it's cold outside but doesn't warrant something THAT heavy. Does anybody know of a place?
