I just found out about this new online thing called BorrowMe. It's like a combination of eBay and Freecycle. You give and get stuff for free. It's launching in a few days, on the 31st, if you sign up now you supposedly get extra beta-user privileges.

How is this different from FreeCycle?

It isn't launched yet, so I'm not totally sure, but I think it's going to be international and you can do searches, whereas Freecycle is just a local community you have to scan through.

I assume the borrower would then pay for shipping, but again I'm not totally sure.

I signed up, and looked through the site, but I'm still not sure about it... looks like you really are BORROWING this stuff and would have to send it back... because there's info about "what if they break it" on the blog page. Eh, can't hurt to try it!!

One thing that I thought was funny, is they said that they expect to have a lot of jewelry on this... I wouldn't be lending anyone my pearl necklace unless you were my best friend and I knew where I could hunt you down and kill you if you hurt it. :)

Yes, I think you will have to return stuff. I assume they will figure out how to streamline that. But I think it's great from an environmental perspective, too.
