I have a question! I was actually over in the music section over there and didn't see any recent posts on this but what's the going rate for a DJ (you can give a wide range) in a major city? I assume it depends on how many hours they are there as well, right? I guess I would need one for about 5 hrs for a dinner reception. I'm just trying to figure out how much to ballpark budget. Thanks!
Don't worry about the FX rate. Just tell me in US dollars.

edited you may want to visit the local board on the WC or other wedding boards, and ask there what the average is.

OH! OH! DiscoDiva!!! THANK GOD!! I have a question that you may or may not be able to answer. I need to submit my reception timeline for our DJ ...
Can you help? Can you tell me - coming from a DJ who's seen a lot of weddings - what works best? Having the special dances before, during, after dinner? Cake cutting before, during, or after dinner?
Is it better to get everything out of the way at once? Or do you break up the dancing with doing the bouquet toss and garter toss later in the night?
Any input is very accepted!

*Introduction of bride and groom
*Directly to first dance, directly to father daughter dance then mother son dance
*Blessing
*Meal
*Once meal is finished, toast
*Directly to cake cutting
*Dance floor open
*Any other special dances start around 20-30 minutes after the dance floor is open (such as dollar dance, anniversary dance, special dedication dances, etc.)
*Bouquet and garter around 1 hour before end of recepton
*Exit
This is how it is at most all the the weddings I've been to.

HI!
Is it appropriate to have a "do not play list" and if so , how many songs should I limit myself to? Should I list actual songs, or more like "do not play cheesy 80's songs" or do not play songs such as the bunny hop and YMCA etc?
HELP!

Hey! Probably a silly question, but something on our minds...Do we actually need to provide the DJ with a play and don't play list?!? I can think of a couple of songs that we'd love to hear (about 3) and a couple that we don't want to hear. I was hoping that he'd be able to tell what to play by what the guests are dancing to and what our VERY short play and don't play lists are. Am I putting too much trust into our DJ?
