I just bought a bunch of candy for a candy bar. Now I am worried I will have left overs or that people will think its dumb. I bought bags of mini candy bars, peppermints, dum dum lollipops, and various other chocolate candies.

Did anyone do a candy bar. Did people like it. Was there candy left over (dont want any). Please share pics.

I didn't do one, but I just went to a wedding that did. People definately did eat the candy. They had fancy little paper bags with their names and wedding date so people could take some home, too. I thought it was cute.

There was candy left over at the end. Some kinds were more popular than others, I guess. I don't know what they did with it.

I do want to point out that you should make sure you have some kind of pretty bucket or garbage can on/near that table to collect wrappers. This wedding did not, and people just left the wrappers on the table which made kind of a mess.

We did one and hardly had anything left over. I just through the extras in a couple bags and gave to my little cousins towards the end of the night.

I went to a wedding recently where there was a ton of candy left over. I think guests just didn't understand what the candy was about. I think it's a very cute idea, just make sure that the candy is in a visible place, either centrally located (like near the cake) or on the way out; there's a sign that explains what to do (i.e. take bags of candy home with you); and have your DJ/band/MC announce that people should help themselves to the candy bar. I know I saw pictures of various candy bars on the WC, you might try doing a search there.

I've never seen one actually done but I think it's a cute idea.

I've been to a wedding where they had hershey bars but instead of it saying "hershey" across the front it said their names + wedding date...and then the ingredients was mushy stuff like 1 cup love, 2 teaspoons sugar..etc. etc.

They were really cute and I would like to do it at my wedding.

I recently saw a candy "bar" like a buffet, and I thought it was adorable. I was a little disappointed that I didn't think of it! I would definitely do it if I had it to do again. :)

I did one and people loved it! I had a little candy left over, but not too much.

I had lindor truffles, jelly bellies, key lime disks, butter mints, lemon heads, and two kinds of candy sticks. At the end we had some key lime disks left over (maybe 2 handfulls? my mom took them to her office), maybe a dozen candy sticks (gave them to my nephews), and about half a pound of jelly bellies (because they weren't all put in the bowl for some reason). The chocolate and mints were gone first. The buffet was set up near the cake and coffee station and people walked past it, and sampled from it, all night.

There were about 85 people at my wedding and I completely overbought because I love candy and couldn't help myself. :) Let me know if you want any details about amounts, etc...

There is a huge thread (http://boards.weddingchannel.com/thread.jspa?threadID=403244&start=0&tstart=15) on WC about this that I used as a resource. There are pictures throughout of different candy buffets.

This is not a great picture of mine, but it gives you the basic idea...

We did a candy bar and it was a huge success. We did M&Ms and mints in our wedding colors, and also had Hershey's Kisses and Hugs with a pic of us in a round circle that we stuck to the bottom of each piece. We provided clear celophane bags and seals to take them home. We got the bags and the stickers for the Kisses from eBay and the candy in bulk so everything was very inexpensive. The hotel staff set everything up on the table where our placecards were at the same time as dessert and people helped themselves as they left. We didn't have a single piece of candy left over, which was kind of a bummer because I wanted some! :p We also didn't get a picture of it.

We did one, and it was a huge hit. In fact, there wasn't any good candy left by the time dinner started - and I had totally overbought (or so I thought!). We had originally planned on doing a different favor, so I had bought all of these little acrylic boxes. We had also planned on doing a cupcake tree for our wedding cake, but didn't, and had bought a cupcake stand. So we combined the two, and stacked the boxes on the cupcake stand, and had the candy arranged all around it. We used red candies of various kinds to match the decor.

I don't have any good pictures of the candy buffet uploaded to the computer...

My sister had one and it included a cotten candy machine. I really liked it because it was at the door at the end of the party (which ended around 1am) so just when you thought the party was over there was one more sweet suprise for your ride home.

For those that did a Candy buffet: How far in advance did you buy your Candy? I know it might depend on season etc. My wedding is in April so I'm wondering when to stock up. My colors are burgundy/deep red so I'm thinking that I can get a bunch of stuff on sale after Valentine's Day in that color scheme but I' m wondering if 2 months is too far ahead.

I got mine about three to four weeks ahead and there was no problem at all with freshness.

I have heard that it can be okay to buy it up to three months ahead, but it really depends on how fresh the candy is when you buy it. For instance, if you know there is a fast turn-over of new candy at the local Target, you can probably get it with no problem.

Another issue is storage. I do know that if chocolate changes temperature, it can develop a greyish "bloom". It won't change the taste at all, but it might be something to consider.
