lately the grass has been getting these huge dead patches. at first Ithought it needed more water but we have sprinklers and the dead areas keep appearing. there is perfectly healthy grass around them and I dont know what is causing it.
We fertilize and water our lawn. Any clues what it might be? the areas look almost burnt, they are completely dry.

I have the same thing in my back yard! I was told it is some kind of fungus. Maybe called Brown Patch, or something like that? Sad thing is I like the patches. Less lawn to mow.

Just checking in to say I have the same problem! I thought it was doggie pee (our St. Augustine is in the front yard lining the sidewalk).

someone at work told my husband that it was chinch bugs...
i haven't seen any bugs but we bought some chinch bug killer. I'll let you know if it works.

Maybe it's grubs.

I agree with chinch bugs. I've had those spots as well....the treatment should work.

How can you tell if the dead patches are drought related or bug/disease related? Our grass turned brown and dry in areas but I figured because it hasn't rained in over a month.
