Hi! Does anyone have any suggestions on good gifts for a 5 year old girl's birthday party? I am out of touch, and have no idea what is appropriate...
Thanks!

I put together a "dress-up box" for my neice and it has been a hit for years. Since Halloween is around the corner you could get some great stuff.

"girl" legos or Playmobil, Barbies, paper dolls, games, puzzles, craft supplies, books, cds, movies? Kind of depends what she's into.

FH has two daughters ages 6 and 8. The absolute best present to get them is a Toys R Us giftcard. It sounds weird but they get soooo excited when anyone gets them one and they love picking out their own stuff. They call them "our credit cards." ;)
We use them to practice math when we shop. Like if they have a 10 dollar GC and they've picked out 6 dollars worth of stuff how much do you have left to spend? It's fun and it takes them no less than 2 hours to spend 20 dollars. Decisions, decisions...

How about starting her on a book series. The Angelina (mouse) books by Katherine Holabird are really wonderful. There's a book about birthdays called Angelina's Birthday.
I think a little vanity set would be really great, too. When I was 5 I LOVED make believe!

There is also a whole forum for gift ideas. You might find something there, too.

My niece turned 5 last November and some of her favorite things were gift cards (she loooooves having her "own money" to buy things), DVD's (not cartoons...but Disney movies like "The Parent Trap" and "Freaky Friday" - both new versions), clothes (she's a super fashion bug though), scrapbook sets and "My Scene" Barbie dolls.
I think a gift card (for Target, Toys R Us or even Baby Gap or Limited Too) would be great and you could put it in a cute Hello Kitty (or whatever kind) wallet :)

* bump * for more ideas - we're attending a birthday party for a 6 y.o. girl in early October. My DD is only 1.5 so I'm not really sure what 6 y.o. girls are into these days. I usually buy books and toys that are more crafty etc. - any suggestions? TIA!

I'm planning on starting my Christmas shopping early this year and have come across some cute things for my 5 year old niece -
- Hello Kitty Uno - relatively inexpensive, looks like fun
- Wee Enchanted Garden (some kind of ceramic garden thing) with a copy of the movie "Secret Garden"
- Subscription to kids magazine - I'm thinking Highlights, although I did see one that looked cute called "Spider", just need to get more info on it though.
My niece's favorite game is "Pretty Pretty Princess". She plays it every single time I visit. It's some type of board game that had the kids wearing tiaras and costume jewelry. Pretty cute!
