I think I want to tell my students and parents that I'm pregnant with DC#2 on Halloween (I'll be 4.5 mo) and I'm looking for a creative way to do it. I thought if I could come up with a great costume, I could just announce it that way and not have to go through some big explanation/discussion. DS will probably come for the Halloween parties too and he'll be 16 mo. so I was thinking maybe we could coordinate somehow.

I know there's lots of creative people out there, HELP!!

Get a large cardboard box and decorate it as an oven with a door that opens. When the door opens there is a bun. Make DS a chef.

OMG Bernie and Matt I remember you from the old WC days!!! I cant believe your preggo again! CONGRATS! I remember when you were picking out the bedding for DSs room....moon and stars right? I used to lurk in your journal often and posted a couple of times. :D Are you on LJ or are yo mostly over here? I am April1234 on LJ if you would like to friend me.

Also, I think the oven idea is VERY cute. :)

The first thing that I thought of was an oven, also. I just wouldn't make DS a chef. I would make him a pastry b/c he was once the "bun" in the oven.

I agree with the bun in the oven costume...but making DS the chef kinda skeeved me out - DH would be the chef! I like the idea of making DS a pastry.

Are the kids you teach old enough to know what a bun in the oven means?

eta: If they know their old wives tales, you could go as a dead rabbit.

You could also make a cardboard box into a car (step into it and have strings that go over your shoulder to hold it on) and put a baby on board sign on your belly.

I was thinking you could dress up like a stork.....or......

Get a huge cardboard box (like a refridgerator box) and paint it to look like a box of Pampers or some other baby-related item! If you know the sex of the baby by then you would be able to paint it like Diapers for girls or boys.

Hmm...how about wearing a gift-wrapped box, by suspenders, with a tag that says: "DO NOT OPEN 'TIL (due date)!"

Not sure what your DS would be, though...

I love the oven idea stated above...and the DH as the chef. You could wrap aluminum foil on a cardboard box. ;)

Whatever you decide to be, I cant wait to see the outcome!

I didn't think about "who the chef would be" just something to do with baking :p

How about the Poppin' Fresh Doughboy?

You could be a pea pod w/ a green "pea" for your belly, and DS can also be a pea. You know, "like two peas in a pod"! ;)

I have always thought kangaroos are cute you could be a kangaroo, and DS could be a kangaroo and your pouch will be empty, I'm pretty sure they would ask were the baby one is, that is suppost to be in your pouch.
its good but not as good as the bun in the oven.

I love the pea in the pod idea, with your son as a pea as well. That could be really cute! :)

Whatever you do, your DS should be wearing a shirt that says, 'I'm the big brother".

Cant wait to see what you decided!

I think all the ideas are cute - but I think it really depends how old your students are (sorry if I missed it somewhere). Since you mentioned you didnt want to go into a big long explanation I'm assuming they are quite young. The 'bun in the oven' is so cute, but would they even know what that means? Baby on Board would be cute! and they are probably all familiar with that - but my favorite is the Kangaroos. Your son's name wouldnt happen to be Joey would it?? ;) He could be Big Brother Joey #1, or something like that. If the students are older, you could go with any of these suggestions though. Good luck and congratulations!
