What blooms Spring, Summer, and Fall?

I wanted to plant around my mail box and my neighbor was saying that she had a gardening magazine that showed a mixture of flowers so that you had blooms in Spring, Summer and Fall. She couldn't find the one when she looked, but she kept saying - don't make the mistake I did. Anyone know about these types of combinations?

The only things that I know of that bloom all season are annuals that you have to replant every year or roses.

If you get some nursery catalogs, they have pre-planned gardens that are supposed to continually bloom but that would probably be too many flowers for the area.
