I just recently "discovered" MAC eyeshadows.
I always knew of the brand/stores but I was "intimidated" to go in just because of the pushing sales people....anyways.
I started buying products on EBAY and I am now obsessed!!!!
What are your favorite MAC products and most importantly...what are your fav. eyeshadow colors~

What state do you live in?? I've been wearing MAC since I was about 15 and I have never had a salesgirl/guy push any product on me! If anything, you have to be a bit agressive with them at times because they're so busy. If you ever muster up the desire to get some help from the MAC people, definitely do it because they can be really helpful in showing you what colors will work best for you.
Here are the eyeshadows I use:
-smut
-naked lunch
-vellum(don't like color)
One eyeshadow product they have that's really good is Paint, here's the description:
A high tech, high performance eye shadow product which goes on creamy; dries to a powdery finish. It is ideal for colour-intensive, texture-rich looks that need to last. Made with concentrated pearl pigments in a cream colour formulation, the "transformative" abilities of M·A·C Paints allow for easy application, blendability, and flexibility of coverage. Its transfer-resistant finish creates a smooth, crease-free, slightly shiny, reflective look to the lid.
I'm on my second tube of paint and I have it in Stillife. A little goes a long way! I even use it on my cheekbones for nights on the town!

I hope noone get offended (if they live in my area) but I am in Chicago.
I have quickly walked in/out of a few MAC stores (even the stand at Nordstrom) and all the sales people appear/are very snotty. I remember over on WC someone made a thread about this very topic.
I have been really happy getting the stuff on ebay...if I realllllly want a color/item and its going for more than retail, then I would go to the store.

Your eyeshadow colors sound really cool. By the names, it sounds like they are in the deep burgandy family. I've got dark hair and light skin too, I would have never thought I could pull that off. What do you do for lip color?

Stephanie - Thanks! Yeah, I actually wear a wide variety of colors. For work it's usually the standard neutral/browns (patina, era, etc.), but if I am going out I like to spice it up a bit. I think you could definitely wear darker burgendy colors. I don't know what your exact skin tone is but for me, the key to it working is to make sure the colors are more burgendy/berry and not too deep purple. Vibrant purple I can do, but deep dark purple makes me look dead. lol! Usually if I wear darker colors on my eyes I will wear a lighter pink-toned lipstick or lipglass like Magic Spell or Viva Glam V. :)
Tiffany - Isn't Patina the best color ever? I love it, it is my constant everyday "go-to" color!

I am a huge MAC fan. Luckily, I haven't run into any pushy/snotty salespeople (I'm in the Boston area, and there is a MAC store at the Burlington Mall here, which is where I go.)
I'm a HUGE fan of their Blot Powder. It is the best I've ever used. I have about 15 of their eyeshadows... and honestly half of them (the ones I use most) are in one of their four shadow compacts, so I'm unsure of the names of the colors. I do know that I use carbon to line my eyes...
I also love their lipglosses, both Lipglass and Laquer. I have the Laquer in Rainbeau and I love the color, it goes with everything.

I *LOVE* MAC products! Off the top of my head, here are the eyeshadows I use regularly:
-Bronze
-Retrospeck (usually wear this all-over) with Bronze in the crease
-Sable (use in cream with retrospeck all over lid)
-Humid (nights out)
-Mulch
I wear the SPF 15 foundation and use the "Fiber lash" mascara
MAC lipglass is wonderful!! I love "luminary" and "dreamy" - they are both great!!
ssstephanie
06-28-2005, 11:45 PM
I used to love lipglass but it's so sticky on me, like flypaper! If my hair didn't get all stuck in it, the crumbs off whatever i'd eat stick to it. I can't remember what the lipglosses are called, the ones with a black wand with a soft brush. Anyway, I have that in Nymphette and it's really pretty.
1MegMeg: I am definitely checking out the burgandies during my next visit to MAC:)

I'm a MAC fan even though I mostly use Prescriptives products. For MAC, I love their Lustreglass (Beaux and Decorative). I also use StudioFix foundation and two lip liners (Chestnut and Vino).
Quick questions for anyone who used StudioFix: do you have a problem with it breaking you out if you don't change the sponge after a few uses and do you find that the lasting power doesn't hold up too much in warmer weather? Aslo, which MAC mascara do you ladies use/recommend? And, what is the purpose of the blotting powder (I'm clueless about that one).
Thanks!

Absolutely! That's why I stopped using StudioFix. It just seemed to me that the sponge always stayed moist b/c of the foundation. I never felt like the sponge was clean. And then to be rubbing it onto the clean foundation and powder, not a good mix IMO. I just think those little sponges are a bad idea for anyone with even the slightest oily face and breakout tendencies. Maybe instead of using the sponge, you can get one of those compact brushes?
I've had one tube of MAC mascara and I didn't really like it much. It dried out too quickly and therefore created lumps quicker.

I love MAC products! I also use Mary Kay facial products but for eyeshadows I use:
Browns
Era
Patina
Mulch
Satin Taupe
Brun
greys/blacks
Vex
Black Tied
Print
nuetrals/whites/cream colors
Nylon
Brulee
Vanilla
Mylar
randoms....
Shale
Pink Freeze
paradisco
Trax
Sketch
Tilt
Electric Eel
thats all i can think of right now....
and don't quote me on this but I think the blotting powder is something you use during the day instead of the studio fix powder in order to take away the shine. I don't think it necessarily puts on more powder. Something like that...
I know Caligirl(WC name) is great with makeup and she sure knows her stuff...so hopefully she will come by here and give some good advice. She had a makeup thread in LJ and WC too...

I'm a total MAC whore. I can't live with the Blot Powder, and I also love the LipGlass, brushes, and eyeshadows.

My favorite eyeshadow colors are Vanilla, Patina, Ricepaper, Quarry, & Nocturnelle.

Another MAC whore representin'. :) I have just about every MAC eye shadow color [limited edition stuff, too] they've released. I love, love, LOVE playing my eyes up with bright and bold colors. [though I keep them super tame at work...]
Anybody try their new lipgelees yet? I've been sort of hesitant because it looks super thick and sticky.

I use MAC for work, I work in TV. I don't LOVE it, but that's mostly because i have to wear so much to deal with the lights. lol.
We all use the studiofix, and I break out a lot from it, but mostly because I'm wearing so much I think. I apply it using a big powder brush, not the included sponge. Also, I wash the powder brush once a month with some mild shampoo/conditioner 2 in 1 and let it dry laying on a clean towel. Make sense?
I love this thread though... we buy our stuff online, and it's SO HARD to know what the colour will look like IRL from a pic on a computer.
Any particular lipstick colour reccs? I prefer matte (better on tv) and I'm open to colour suggestions. Bright is good, but I don't like to glow! lol. TIA!

I love MAC, although I've only been into it the last 3 months or so. (As a side note, I hate the service I get in the stores... which is to say, either pushy or rude or nonexistent.)
I was recently in Japan and tried their exclusive foundations... for me, they're so much better than the ones we can get here! The Lightful foundation was great, but I really loved the Studio Perfect one (more coverage).. but I only have one backup! Yipes.

I think my all-time favorite MAC lipstick is "O." I've gone through about 4 tubes of it. I'm not into frosts at all but the trick I use is to dab it on instead of run it across my lipss so it doesn't shimmer. It gives such a nice wine-ish stain and the good thing is it can look either really minimal or very festive!

This one seems the most appealing to me. And I bet it is good because it's sold out on the MAC website!

The browns I have are Bronze and Mulch. They might be a tad too dark though if you're really light skinned. I think Sable would look nice on you... it's a purplish color and I think it would look realy pretty with your complexion (from what you described). I have hazel eyes and use it most days of the week.
Is there any way you can go to one of the counters and test some out? That might help a ton for you!

In my makeup bag right now:

On my list the next time I go makeup shopping:
Parfait Amour, Patina, and something green - Aquadisiac or Surreal.

Thanks!
I work for MAC and I hear around here and WC that alot of women break out from the SF. I ask customers who wear it and only about 5% say that they breakout from it. One thing is to be sure that you are keeping your sponge clean because the natural oils in your skin build up in the sponge and that is redeposited in your makeup as you use your sponge. I also do not like to touch up with SF so that's when blot powder comes in. Blot powder soley abosrbs oil and sweat, and still you sould clean/replace you sponge at leat once a week. I'm not a big fan of foundation in general so I personally have not worn it for more than a week at a time so I cannot speak on the breakout issue. As for mascara, I like the Zoom Lash and the Fibre Rich mascara's. I have long lashes naturally so I like to thicken them and add just a little length. If you prefer more length the try the Pro Long Lash, if you want more length and thickness you could try the X Mascara, its a few dollars more but IMO its worth it. Be sure to stop by a location near you and an Artist will be able to help you to choose a mascara to suit your needs. Hope this helped.
*
As far as my favorites from the brand they are:
Eyes:Bamboomed paint, Sweet Sage fluid Line (used as liner and shadow), Zoom Lash mascara. For sahdows: Wedge, Patina, Cranberry, Carbon and Elite <a limited colour from Belle Azure>
Lips: Lip Gelee' in Sapilicious, Lipglass in Echantress, Lustreglass in Platial and Star Nova, Lipstick in Shitaki and Fetish, Lip Liners in Stripdown, Cork, Nightmoth and Spice, Lacquer in Poco Pink
Face: Tinted moisturizer, blot powder, Refined golden bronzing powder, Format-Ambering Rose-BlushBaby-Margin and Pinch Me blushes
Misc: Scrub Mask, 252 brush, Nail polish in Aura (dcont'd), and cleanse off oil to break down eye makeup.

Bellezzadolce: Thank you SO much for posting! I do my best to keep the sponge clean, but I can understand that my face isn't as clean in the afternoon (when I touch up) as it is when I first apply my makeup in the morning. I boight a package of sponge rounds (cheap at Sallys) so that I can change my sponge depending on how much I used them. I haven't used my SF in a while since I don't really need that much coverage during the day. I do, however, really like it for going out when I want to look a little extra glam! Also, thanks for the the info on the blotting powder and mascara. I'm going to make my way to the MAC counter this weekend for some new mascara!! I have some length to my lashes, but I do like a mascara that add both length and thickness without clumping!
Thanks again!

I LOVE MAC. Their eyeshadows and lipsticks are the best.
I could spend the entire day just trying on different colours and products. I have a discount card so I tend to go a little crazy when I shop there *L*
However, I don't use their nail polish as I find it chips way too fast. I also stay away from their skin care line and their foundations... I haven't heard very good things about them. I don't like the mascara either.
I swear by the blotting powder. It's amazing! It takes away ALL the oil and shine on my face. It works better than any other product I've ever tried.

EmilyZA & bunnyboo - You have to be in the beauty/entertainment industry in order to be eligible for a discount card. And you have to pay for it. It used to be free, but people were taking advantage of it (ie: buying for their friends and family) so they started a pay membership a couple of years ago. It's $45 a year (Canadian) but it's worth it for me because I end up saving more than that a year on purchases I make.
