DH was working in the yard the other day and the Schwans guy stopped by and gave him a catalogue. With school starting some of the meal options are tempting and the food didn't look too bad, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with Schwans and if so, what do you like? Good and Not so good experiences wanted. TIA!

No, I never have but we have it here and they have stopped by to give us a catalog too. They are suppose to have really good ice cream but the prices looked kind of high to me. Let me know if you end up ordering something, I would love to know how it goes.

Used to order from them all the time before I moved. The Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry meal was awesome, and the chicken fingers were the best I've ever found. I never bothered with the I/C cause it was so expensive, but the meal options were wonderful for me.
Oh well - just a thought! Some of the Schwans men could be really pushy, but one ended up being a family friend and would come in and plop down on the couch to visit and play with our puppy! Anwyay - all in all pretty good experience with them!

My ILs order from them all the time... they used to give us the mini-pizzas they ordered after their youngest moved out for good... those pizzas were SOOOO yummy!
They also get like pot roast and stuff I think... oh and chicken patties... chicken-fried steak patties or something like that...

Thanks Ladies! I circled all the things I thought looked good :) and told DH we could try it and see what we thought. If we don't like it or it doesn't work out we just won't use them again. I'll try to come back and update our experience!!

I LOVE their ice cream. It's the best! Their vanilla is so yummy....my mouth is watering just thinking about it. My parents bought from Schwans all the time and still do. I love their individual frozen chicken breasts. If you have a specific question about something particular please ask. I'm sure that I've tried it over the years.

I buy from them all the time. I love the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Ive also bought the Sundae Cones, sherbert push pops, egg rolls, frozen bread, corn on the cob, asparagus, mahi mahi, pizza's, chicken nuggets
I think thats it, but I do buy from them often. Usually my basics with them are the chicken cordon bleu, sundae cones, bread, and asparagus.
I really need to compare the prices I guess...Ive never really thought about that aspect of it before. I did check out the chicken cordon bleu once at Costco and it was very close to the price of Schwans so I didnt think twice about anything else.

I haven't had Schwan's in years, but my parents always ordered from them. Their mini pizzas are awesome!!!

We have a regular delivery schedule with Schwann's. I agree that the Chicken Terryaki stirfry and the chicken cordon blues are awesome!!
I also like the Ham & Cheese and the Pepperoni hot pocket things. Husband likes the lasagna, but isn't crazy about the pizzas at all. I like the ice cream, it's really creamy... but my husband says it's "too creamy". The bomb pops (you know, those red/white/blue ice pops) are yummy, too! Oh, I like the chicken pot pies, too. :)
Right now, we're working our way through the skinless franks. It's nice, because they're packaged in 5 franks per pack/30 per box.

Our Schwans guy comes every two weeks. I always have something for him, and what's really awesome is they let you exchange anything you didn't like, so I get to try new things. DH and I love their boneless buffalo chicken "wings", their mini pizza's are good. I haven't had too much luck with their potato's but their ice cream is the best!!
I've been wanting to try their steaks, but they just seem awfully expensive. I might try them once and see if their worth it.

I didnt know you could exchange things! How does that work?
I tried their steaks and I didnt really care for them. I get much better steak at Costco for around the same price!

Thanks so much!! It is sounding better and better! We also felt the steak was a little too pricey and thought we would do better at Sam's as far as meats go. I am really interested in the meals that can be popped in the oven, and on the go breakfast/lunch/dinner items such as the hot pockets. I find that with a lot of frozen meals the meats in them tend to be grizzly, does anyone find this with Schwan's?

Regarding the exchange of items....if you get something that you don't like or aren't fond of they give you your money back or exchange for another item. Or at least that's what my mom's previous Schwan's guy told her.
We've had their steaks before. I don't remember which ones but I'll try and find the book tomorrow and see which ones we had. They were good. And individually frozen. Their pork chops are excellent as well.

I'd also like to know how the pre-made meals are. DS and I eat dinner alone a lot and having a smaller, ready to go meal would be great.
As far as exchanging...I just keep whatever we didn't use until our guy comes and he exchanges it for something else, no questions. Always very nice and pleasant. We've liked pretty much everything so I don't have to do it too often.

Dh & I like the Chicken patties for sandwiches, the pot-sticker collection & the potsticker stir-fry is good. We used to buy the shrimp alfredo meal kit alot too, just got tired of it. I like their breads/rolls too, handy to have, salmon, frozen yogurt, breaded mushrooms, eggrolls. We have been buying from them for a few years. The chicken cordon blue is good, but I get it cheaper at sam's. We like the specialty recipe pizza also. Was that just about everything they sell?

They are the only ones I can find that have the ORANGE ONLy push ups. Love them. I tried the frozen bread dough, too, and was pretty happy with it. The garlic cheese biscuits (I think?) were good too, but he was always out of them when he stopped by to drop off the roommates orders.

Never have always wanted to.. They are always in my neighborhood...
A funny story:
A co-worker of my FH is a major lush and he was telling us about a time he curesd out the Schwanns guy for interrupting his drinking time..What a jerk! I would have never delivered to his house again!!! LOL..............

Bumping... we just started with delivery.
We got the chicken and broccoli alfredo meal kit and it was awesome... Also a big fan of the chocolate/mint ice cream bars.
We ordered 4 things, so we got a free 1/2 gallon of ice cream. DH likes cookies and cream, so I got that one for him. He liked it a lot.
When the lady dropped off the catalogs (and said she'd be back in a few days to see if we'd like to order), she also gave us a free 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream. Haven't tried it yet.

If you're an ice-cream freak, it's some of THE BEST ice-cream out there! My favorite "food" thing are the spinach minature bread bowls. Yummy!
My sister orders all the time and I've ordered things through her every now and then. I was impressed by the quality of the meats in the ready made foods. There's actual large pieces of chicken breast in the chicken meals and the beef and broccoli stir fry actually had real thick pieces of beef. The 1 lb lasagnas are pretty good (and only take 2 minutes and feed 2). Their chicken parm is pretty good too. My DH thought I made it (he loves mine). The meal kits are nice because they come with everything you need down to the mozzarella and parmesean for the CP kit. My DS (2.5) loves their mini meatloaves (will eat two and won't touch my homeade  ).
It's not super healthy (though there are some healthy choices) so that's why I don't use it more, but it's nice to have something in the freezer that I didn't have to make and that's ready in minutes for a hungry toddler.
Oh, and the ice cream is VERY good. So are the pizzas (mexican pizza is very tasty and different from the norm).

used to get Schwans all the time but quit because I felt obligated to buy something everytime he stopped and we were trying to save money. Most stuff I've had has been good. I really like their chicken strips and their corndogs. The ice cream is great. DH is a big ice cream fan and loves their ice cream--actually DH's dad used to drive a Schwans truck so he really doesn't care for ice cream other than Schwans since that is what he grew up eating.
Stuff I've had I liked/loved: the pizza, frozen breads, chicken alfredo meal, ice cream, corn dogs, toasted cheese sandwich things, boneless buffalo and teriyaki wings, popcorn chicken/crispy chicken strips/chicken fries, perogies, curly seasoned fries, the family sized chicken pot pie.
stuff I haven't liked: the asian chicken stuff, the hamburger mac and cheese casserole. I know there were a few more things but I haven't had schwans in so long I'm drawing a blank.
for those of you who like the Schwans pizza their parent company also makes Tonys, Red Baron and Freschetta pizza. Some other products they make (from their corporate website):
Many of The Schwan Food Company’s brands have become household names through our distribution in retail and grocery outlets.
Tony’s®, Red Baron® and Freschetta® products are among some of the most recognizable names in the frozen food aisle. The acquisitions of Edwards Fine Foods and Mrs. Smith’s Bakeries have further strengthened The Schwan Food Company’s position as a leader in the frozen food market.
In 2006, Schwan entered a new pizza market when they partnered with world renowned chef Wolfgang Puck to create Wolfgang Puck® brand all natural pizza.
Products offered in the retail and grocery sectors include pizza, egg rolls, Tex-Mex, Asian specialties, pies, frozen desserts and potato side dishes.

We've stopped ordering from Schwann's because my husband was hospitalized for Salmonella which the FDA traced back to the Schwann's chocolate brownie sundae desserts.
Interesting that Schwann's is also "Mrs. Smith's" pies... why are their pies $7.00 from the Schwann's truck and $5.00 (or less) from the grocery store?? Makes me think that I've made the right decision!!

I'm sure the drivers either make a % or a per item commission... anything that gets bought of the store shelf will cost less than something that gets brought to your house.
