We'll miss you Cori! Hopefully next time we will be able to see you.

Candy is also not able to attend due to Maya being sick, so it looks like it is going to be Sasha, Julie and myself. See you girls there!

Hey Ladies. One of these days there will be a GTG that I can attend. I am so bummed I missed the one last month near my house. We'll have to do another one soon. Maybe one with the kids. I'd love to see how much they have grown. :)

I wanted to share my new "job" with all of you since you are local. I started working for 2 people in the jewelry industry. They purchase anything in gold, silver, costume jewelry, and broken gold (rings missing stones, necklaces with broken locks, earrings missing its match), class rings, nameplates, etc. It started out when I was having a garage sale and they came and asked if I had any jewelry for sale. I ended up going upstairs and getting out a bunch of gold stuff I never wear. I made HUNDREDS of dollars selling them my stuff. I then had some friends come over on another night and sell them their jewelry to make some holiday cash. Well now they asked me to come work for them. They pay very well in cash. If you need some extra money and have any jewelry you want to part with, let me know. Normally I wouldn't post something like this on here, but since most of you know me, you know it's safe. I wouldn't promote anything I didn't believe in. I had a few friends have things priced at other jewelers and the people that I work with offered more money for the items. PM me if you want more info. Thanks. ~Cori :)

Hello everyone,
Hubby is applying for a position in Miami Gardens. Can anyone give me a rundown on good places to live, good schools, places to avoid, etc?

Brenda - The city of Miami Gardens itself isn't so hot but there are some nearby surrounding communities that you might want to consider, including Aventura, Miami Lakes (however these two towns are pretty congested), Miramar (very hot building area right now), Pembroke Pines, and Hollywood. All of them would be a less than 30 min. commute for your DH. I honestly don't know anything about the schools in those areas, but I'll warn you that (IMHO) Florida doesn't have the greatest public school system. But that's not to say that there aren't some good schools located in those towns.

Sasha - Thanks for the info. I want to start getting an idea of housing costs and looking at school districts, although it looks like it may be all Miami-Dade everywhere near there. *sigh*

Knowing the names of some nearby towns will help me get some perspective on where and how we'd be living. Thanks again!

Brenda - Actually, Miramar, Pembroke Pines and Hollywood are all in Broward County, not Miami-Dade County. Miami Gardens pretty much sits on the border of the two counties, so you can look at towns in both.

Sasha - I just figured that out while I was looking at real estate listings. I think that makes me feel better about the possible move. Thanks!

Hi there ladies. I live on the east coast of Florida, about 45 minutes north of Melbourne. I might be doing a road trip to south Florida tomorrow, and am desperately looking for a good paper store (getting married in September and need to buy paper products for the invites I designed).

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE A GOOD PAPER STORE IS???

Thanks in advance!!!

Where is South Florida? There is a good paper store in Davie which is in Broward county.

A friend of mine and I were thinking of heading down around Miami. I think Davie is near there, right?

Depends where in Miami but it's not that far. Maybe 30 minutes or so. I don't know the name of it, but it's on state road 84 between flamingo and hiatus. Maybe someone else on here knows the name. It's in the same shopping center as Young at Art and the State Road 84 Diner. I wish I could be of more help. Have a safe trip.

We are heading down to Miami soon and I'd like to buy a new beach cover-up while I'm down there. We go to Miami every year so I'm very familiar with the area but I usually don't do much shopping so I'm at a loss on where to go. We're staying very near to Lincoln Road so I'd like to buy something in that area.

Does anyone have any recommenations on where to go? What are some of your favorite boutiques there?

Also, are there any new restaurants that you love and is worth checking out? The only caveat is that it's somewhere we could eat outside or is fairly loud and won't mind a 1 year old being there. Although we'd go around
6pm and probably be the only ones there so it wouldn't matter. :D

TIA! :)

Hello South Florida ladies!

There's a chance my husband is going to be transferred to Miami in the next few months. I was wondering if I could get your ideas about good towns/communities to live in. We have an 18 month old son, so a safe, family-oriented neighborhood and excellent schools are a requirement. Right now, we live in a master planned community (with picket fences, it's own shopping, retail and schools, etc) and we love it, so anything similar to that would be an extra bonus.

We are used to a long commute here in the DC area, so it is okay if it is far out from the city.

TIA!

I'm about an hour and half from downtown Miami, so I don't think I'd be any help. I'd be glad to ask my agent if she can recommend something though! Good Luck!

Well since you aren't to concerned with a commute have you looked into Broward County? There are some great neighborhoods in Broward-you should look into: Davie, Cooper City, Plantation. There are quite a few planned communities in those areas. Davie and Cooper City have the better schools.

Good Luck with your move. We've just moved back here from NJ and are so happy to be back.

Thanks, Jen. We are definitely looking in Broward county. Our realtor has suggested Weston, Parkland, and Coral Springs. I will check into the areas you listed as well.

Where exactly is Parkland? We're renting right now in Cooper City and plan to buy in the next 10 months. My DH works in downtown FT. Lauderdale so we don't want an insane commute.

Parkland is Northeast of Coral Springs and south of Boca Raton. :) It's pretty expensive depending on where you look.

Thanks MrsTazlvr. I was thinking it was more north. So is it east of 441? Do you know how the schools are?
We were debating moving to the Boca area so if Parkland is nice and a little closer to my parents that would be great.

It depends where in Parkland. I think some is east of 441 and some is west. The schools are good as far as I know. I live in my own little bubble so I am the wrong one to ask. LOL Parkland is pretty expensive I think. Where do your parents live?

They're in Cooper City also. My dh really wants to look into Boca but I don't think I want to be that far. Plus the commute for him would stink.

Where I'd really love to live is Long Lake Ranches. LOL-that's not going to happen unless we win the lottery!

My DH wants to move to Boca because he works there but I don't think we'll be moving any time soon. LOL I feel bad for him though because we live in Coral Springs and it's still a 1 hour drive for him most days each way. We live in S.W. Coral Springs and he works in E. Boca.

I can't believe it's still an hour commute to Boca from C.S. He must leave at the height of rush hour.

Oh well, we have time to look. I've been looking at houses on Realtor.com and parkland/Coral Springs has some nice homes.

Ha. After all this talk about Parkland, we're going to drive up there this weekend. I fell in love with some houses out there. DH thinks the commute would be to much but I can't imagine Boca being any better.

Chiming in late here, but I dont think Parkland is too far from Boca at all. I drive from Sunrise to Deerfield Beach (almost Boca) every day, and my communte is about 35 mins each way on the Sawgrass. :)

See that's what I told him about the commute. He says Parkland is so far west where as Boca is more of a straight shot. Men.

We're going to drive there this weekend to check out the area and if we fall in love we'll I mean he'll have to deal with the commute.:D

It's so much harder with kids now b/c now you need to worry about school districts and such.

Chiming in a bit late, but I think the Parkland to downtown Ft. Lauderdale commute would be long. The killer would be having to get on 95 around Hillsboro Blvd. or so and going all the way down to Broward Blvd. Plus it is all the way west to all the way east.

I am biased because I live there, but have you looked at Plantation? Probably at worst a 25 minute commute to downtown Ft. Lauderdale, very centrally located area, the elementary schools are good (not so sure about middle schools, to be honest) but the high schools are decent. (Although I will add the disclaimer that DH insists our DD will go to the same private high school he went to, LOL).

Jen1098

Not late at all since we have plenty of time to make this decision.

You're probably right Sasha in regards to getting to Broward Blvd. We went up that way today and the neighborhoods look so nice-couldn't get in any b/c they're gated. LOL. But in the long run it doesn't make sense buying a house that far away.

That's my issue with Plantation-the high schools are questionalbe. I'm fine with the elementary schools. We've talked about private for High School which we'd probably end up doing anyway.
Plantation is a nice area-my gf lives in Jacaranda and it's very nice in there.

DH commutes from SW Boca to Weston. It takes him about 35-45 minutes.

So now that I'm back in S. Fl I need a new Obgyn. The one I went to previously was very good but you could easily spend two hours in the waiting room. Can anyone recomend a good Dr.
Anything in Plantation, Cooper City, Davie or Weston would be great.

TIA
